Five beauty favorites for the dog days of summer!

The ancient Romans coined the term ‘dog days of summer’ for the hottest, most humid days of the season. While we are all overheating with the hot and sticky weather, there are some great products that can help you get through the days feeling comfy and looking great. I have five favorites that are my best buddies on these sultry days of summer.

  1.  Voloom Very Airy Beach Party Surf Spray ($19.95) – My hair is long and styling it is tricky in the summer. Sometimes when I try to blow dry it I end up sweating so much my hair never really dries.  So I am a huge fan of sea salt sprays which give me easy beachy waves and let me skip the blow drying. The Voloom Very Airy Beach Party Surf Spray is my go-to this summer because it has low residue, which means I can spray on as much of the Surf Spray as I want and it won’t weigh down my hair.  Ingredients include  Sea Salt/Maris Sal – Therapeutic properties that is used as a natural moisturizing and conditioning agent, while adding thickness and volume to hair – and  Macrocystis Pyrifera (Sea Kelp) Extract – Rich in polysaccharides and amino acids, sea kelp helps moisturize and smooth cuticles for shinier, healthier hair. It also has Keratin & Burdock Extract Heat-Activated Thermal Protection, so it’s great for hair – and simply spraying this onto wet or dry hair makes for easy breezy styling.
  2. Clutch Versatile Hair Spray ($32) – While I am not big on tons of styling when it’s hot and humid, I am big on hair products that make it easy to keep my hairdo from becoming a hair don’t. Clutch Versatile Hair Spray is pretty terrific. You can use it on wet or dry hair, and you can vary the amount of hold from flexible to hard. The big plus for dog days is this hairspray actually removes dirt and sweat from hair, which improves the health of your strands and also cuts down on congested skin at your hairline. The featured ingredient is biotin, a combination of vitamins B6/B5/B12, along with collagen. This treats hair making it more elastic and healthy.  Collagen: Main component of the Biogen ™ complex. Repairs damaged cuticle layers improving suppleness and shine.  Wheat Protein: Repairs the cortex improving overall strength and preventing future damage. Replenishes lost protein caused from abusing our hair daily.  Peptides: Repairs weak strands and creates a barrier to prevent damage caused by excessive use of heat, brush/comb friction and environmental stresses. Clutch Versatile Hairspray leaves my hair shiny and full. It has a fine spray that is buildable for hold that truly lasts all day. Plus a percentage of every product sold goes towards cancer research. I think it’s the perfect hairspray for hot, humid days.
  3. Golden Door Golden Face Oil ($48) – No way am I going to slather my face with heavy moisturizing cream when it’s so hot I’m sweating in places I didn’t even know I had. Golden Door Golden Face Oil is a wonderfully luxurious face oil that tackles fine lines and wrinkles with an elegant formula that isn’t greasy or heavy.  It has excellent antioxidant ingredients:

ROSE HIP OIL – Vitamin-rich and packed with omega, skin looks smoother, plumper, and lessens the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and premature aging.

SEA BUCKTHORN OIL – The world’s richest source of Omega 7, a fatty acid that boosts collagen production.

SQUALENE – Creates a barrier against everyday toxins and pollutants to prevent moisture loss.

BLEND OF 1O ESSENTIAL OILS – Immediate boost of invigorating oils that tone and brighten the skins complexion with a dewy finish.

YUZU EXTRACT – This uplifting, Japanese citrus improves clarity yet calms the body and spirit.

It smells fantastic, very spa-like and relaxing. I put a few drops of this amber-colored oil on my face after my treatment serum every morning and night, concentrating under my eyes and around my lip area and love the results. It definitely brightens and smooths skin and it has no parabens, sulfates, artificial color, artificial fragrances, mineral oil, petrolatum, phthalates, formaldehyde, GMO Ingredients, or animal testing.

As the weather gets warmer I am really enjoying a face oil instead of a face cream. This is absolutely my go-to moisturizer for the summer.

  4. SALT by hendrix Coconut Elixir Creme ($29) – This wonderful body cream comes in two different scents – either Jasmine + Sweet Orange or Neroli + Mandarin. The bottle is gorgeous. Glass, chic, minimalistic class. What’s inside is just as fabulous. The body cream leaves skin soft and hydrated, smelling softly of citrus goodness. While it’s very moisturizing, it isn’t heavy and doesn’t leave skin feeling sticky or tacky – who wants more of that, especially when it’s humid out?

The ingredients include organic Jojoba, Rosehip and Coconut Oil, healing and soothing skin with Vitamin E and tons of antioxidants – exactly what skin needs after being stressed by sun, heat, and humidity. Coconut Elixir Creme is truly delightful, both in appearance and in performance.

  5. Golden Door Yuzu Natural Deodorant ($7) –  With higher temperatures, deodorant is a must. I am super happy with the Golden Door Yuzu Natural Deodorant, which keeps me smelling fresh without any chemicals.  It isn’t easy to find an aluminum-free deodorant that works this well – ingredients include coconut oil, which contains lauric acid which is known to kill odor-causing bacteria. The Yuzu Natural Deodorant has a light citrus scent and it comes in a super convenient travel size.

Battling the dog days of summer is a walk in the park with these five winners – keep cool and enjoy August!  – Lisa
