Makeup Wars – making up your undereyes

Makeup Wars - under eye products of the month

Makeup Wars – under eye products of the month

What products do you have use that are strictly for under your eyes? What products do you have that will multi-task so that you can use them under your eyes and elsewhere on your face? That’s what this week’s Makeup Wars is taking on. I went through my drawer that I keep most of my concealers in and pulled out what you see in the above picture. These are the items that are in current use but oh baby, there are more. Let’s take a look though to see what Marcia’s eyes are sporting these days.

ATAL Advantage Velvet Eye Serum and Sustainable Youth Anytime Lift Eye Treatment with alasta

ATAL Advantage Velvet Eye Serum and Sustainable Youth Anytime Lift Eye Treatment with alasta

I had to start with the eye serums that I’m using lately. I didn’t really realize until I took my pictures that I was using an eye serum day and night. In the morning I’m using SUSTAINABLE YOUTH ANYTIME LIFT EYE TREATMENT with ALASTA*. I’ve chosen that for mornings because it doesn’t interfere with makeup and it helps with puffiness and dark circles. At night I’m loving ATAL ADVANTAGE VELVET EYE SERUM* which will get a complete review soon.

ATAL Advantage Velvet Eye Serum is a cross between a serum and an eye cream. I took to this like a duck takes to water. I’m loving how the ingredients are helping to moisturize my undereye area and fighting my fine lines.

Next are my correctors. At the moment I’m going between two different ones. PIXI CORRECTION CONCENTRATE in BRIGHTENING PEACH* and BECCA UNDER EYE BRIGHTENING CORRECTOR.

Pixi Correction Concentrate and Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector

Pixi Correction Concentrate and Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector

PIXI Correction Concentrate in Brightening Peach is a thicker product and needs an eye cream under it to make it go on smoothly. This really does a great job of cancelling out dark circles. I always use a foundation with this since it can look a little too peach otherwise on my fair complexion.

Pixi Correction Concentrate and Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector

Pixi Correction Concentrate and Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector

BECCA Under Eye Brightening Corrector is a softer product. The texture is creamier so it glides on easily and the color is more brightening. The price difference is substantial ($12 and $29) so if you are on a budget go with Pixi.

I can’t seem to get enough concealers, it’s one of my weaknesses. While I chose 6 here there are more that I use and love. I use all of these concealers under my eyes and some I’ll use elsewhere on my face too. When we leave the house at night the first thing I do is grab a concealer and fix my face.

Concealers from IT Cosmetics, Nars, Dior, tarte, CoverFX

Concealers from IT Cosmetics, Nars, Dior, tarte, CoverFX

1.  IT COSMETICS CC+ EYE* … Originally this was only available in a TSV but IT got smart and it’s now available separately. I have 3 different IT Cosmetics undereye concealers but chose to show this one because it has SPF50+ and it’s got amazing coverage. This is the concealer that has a slanted metallic applicator though I seem to get too much out if I apply it with the applicator. This is a full coverage concealer which may be too heavy for some people in summer but I use a very small amount and blend well.

2.  COVER FX CAMOUFLAGE CONCEALER aka Conceal FX is one I use anywhere and everywhere. This is a terrific general concealer so you really can buy this and be done. When I saw that they manufactured this in X-Light I was instantly sold.

3.  TARTE SMOOTH OPERATOR AMAZON CLAY CONCEALER is one of two tarte concealers I love, the other being Maracuja Concealer in the tube. This is the only stick concealer that I use even though I have much more expensive ones. I love the portability, the ease of application and that it comes light enough for me in wars undereyes concealers all4.  NARS RADIANT CREAMY CONCEALER in Light is one I didn’t take to right away. I bought it because of the raves but it took me a while to like it. It will never be my favorite but it’s the wand concealer I find myself using the most these days. It’s very creamy and long lasting.

5.  DIORSKIN NUDE CONCEALER has gone through a few changes. I bought this originally and within weeks they came out with a new improved version so I exchanged it. It’s a great undereye concealer and one I like to use a lot to touch up with at night.

6.  DIORSKIN STAR CONCEALER is an even newer version of concealer for Dior. I use this interchangeably with Dior’s Nude Concealer and don’t see much difference between the two.

Charlotte Tilbury The Retoucher, Dior Skinflash, YSL Touche Eclat

Charlotte Tilbury The Retoucher, Dior Skinflash, YSL Touche Eclat

Last are my highlighting concealers from Charlotte Tilbury, Dior and YSL. YVES ST LAURENT TOUCH ECLAT has been a favorite for years and years. I’ve gone through half a dozen of them. I like the original formula, Radiant Touch, because it brightens my undereyes and gives them a lift. I wear this any time I want to look and feel my best. CHARLOTTE TILBURY THE RETOUCHER is my newest one and I think I bought it because of the brand. I have it in #1 Fair and it’s a got good concealing properties along with a touch of brightening. DIOR SKINFLASH RADIANCE BOOSTER PEN is Dior’s answer to YSL. I bought this in #2 which has just a small touch of peach to it.

It takes a lot to be presentable these days!!  Which of these have your tried? Which of these do you want to try? Check out what the other Makeup Wars bloggers use so you can find a favorite. — Marcia

Favorite highlighters & contouring products

Top Ten Tuesday is into highlighting and contouring. I’m just learning about contouring and it’s a slow but interesting process. But it’s slowly coming along because, as they say, practice makes (almost) perfect. Now highlighting is something I love so it was easy to find what I wanted to share with you. Though my college shows 9 products, it’s actually 10 which I’ll mention below. What highlight & contour products do you like?? — Marcia
1429474283_luxlight-revitalizing-foundation1-315x315EDDIE FUNKHOUSER LUXLIGHT HYDRATING PRIMER * ($14.99) is what I often start with when I want a more glowy look. I have other illuminating highlighters but this is the one I grab. The price is right, as is the Candlelight shade which gives a peachy radiance.
1429474197_mi-01-2tDEX COSMETICS MINERAL ILLUMINATOR ($33) is the unknown brand. No one talks about DEX, it’s more of a cult brand. When Lisa and I went to IMATS once she fell for the line, therefore I bought several items. This mineral illuminator is the one to find if you love a soft beautiful glow wherever you’d highlight. It brightens up the undereye area and looks great at the cupid’s bow to help your pout.
1429473863__82371DIOR SKINFLASH RADIANCE BOOSTER PEN ($38) is available in 6 shades. I bought 002, Candle Light, during a makeover. The makeup artist aka my sister loves this more than my favorite Touche Eclat. I still prefer TE but Dior did a great job on this pen. I mostly use it to soften the look under my eyes.
1429473386_luxlight-illuminator-315x315EDDIE FUNKHOUSER LUXLIGHT ILLUMINATOR PEN* ($11.99) has the best price and it’s very close to the original Touche Eclat, Luminous Radiance, shade. Mine is in Candlelight for cool skintones and it’s also available Arclight for warm skintones. This stands out from the crowded field because of its excellence and price.
1429473252__9457300CHARLOTTE TILBURY THE RETOUCHER ($35) is the first CT product I bought when it came to Nordstrom. I’m still deciding what else to buy from the brand but I wanted to see if I could find something better than Touche Eclat. I bought it in shade 1, Fair, which is lighter than my TE so it works great as a highlighting concealer.
1429473050__5813776YSL TOUCHE ECLAT, RADIANCE ECLAT ($42) is the first highlighter that I ever bought. Since then I’ve bought dozens of other brands but this remains my favorite. It is now available in 10 shades but I’m still in love with the original, Luminous Radiance. There’s just something about this that I can’t describe.

1429472802_2264104__detail_?1429472802IT COSMETICS HELLO LIGHT ANTI-AGING CREME ILLUMINIZER (and Hello Light Anti-Aging Illuminizer, the powder version*) ($24) is aaaamazing. I love creme products so that’s why this is the one in the collage. I can get this exactly where I want it to be and blend it with my fingers. As with all IT Cosmetics products for me, it’s the cat’s meow.
1429472649_2264092__detail_?1429472649IT COSMETICS MY SCULPTURED FACE ($38) has been in my collection for a long time. After I bought it though, I was afraid to use it. When I see dark colors for contouring I run. Once I started using it, I saw that IT Cosmetics only had my best interests in mind. The tones in this give you everything you need for highlighting, concealing, contouring and bronzing. It’s the perfect travel companion.

Top Ten Tuesday – favorite concealers

Every other Tuesday the Top Ten bloggers share items we’d like you to know about. Concealers are something very few of us can live without. As I age it seems that there’s more to conceal. I’m not ready to give up the fight. These are concealers that I own and use all the time. Can you find 10 that you love? — Marcia

1. YSL Touche Eclat – Technically this is not a concealer, it’s a highlighter. But I find that it gives me a lift with its luminizing quality that takes people’s eyes (or my mind) away from the dark circles. Unfortunately the price keeps going up on this but one can last me for a year so the $40 that it costs is more than worth it. I buy and I try every product like this but none seem to compare.

2. IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer – I’ve mentioned this concealer about 254,690 times on Beauty Info Zone. It was a miracle when I first discovered it and it remains a miracle to this day. Absolutely a favorite of mine.

3. IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concentrate* – This is the newest concealer from IT Cosmetics and it’s much more heavy duty than the original. It’s actually a “corrector” which you can use to conceal or correct.

4. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Skin Conceal* –  When I need true concealing then I pull out this OCC Concealer. It’s incredible since it comes in 12 multi-ethnic shades, is paraben free, is cruelty free and is free of all the other nasties. This $20 pot will last you forever since it’s so concentrated. I wear this in Y1 (light yellow based skintone) and in RO (palest red based skintone) though not at the same time.

5. Benefit Fake-Up – When I bought this I had some misgivings. I hadn’t had a lot of luck with Benefit but there was something about it that appealed to me. I ended up using it almost every day this past summer. The outer core is an eye balm with the inner core being the concealer. It’s moisturizing and a double duty product. I probably need more moisturizing now that it’s colder so I should start using it again.

6. Senna Highlight Concealer – As much as I love this Senna Concealer in Lite, I miss the original concealer that got me stuck on Senna – Cameo. Luckily I have some in my possession. The light peach of Cameo counteracts my dark circles. I’ve used up at least 3 of them. Lite is close but not quite peachy enough. Yet it’s a great creamy concealer.

7. Three Custom Colors aka 3CC – This is another concealer that I’ve used for quite a while though I haven’t bought it recently. It’s very creamy and doesn’t settle into my undereye creases. It also can be used as a foundation using a damp sponge and patting it on your skin. On the 3CC website it comes in 10 colors including two very dark shades which is nice for a change.

8. Tarte Smooth Operator* – Tarte’s concealer in stick form is an affordable alternative to Cle de Peau and Le Metier de Beaute in my opinion. They feel and look similar on my eyes yet Smooth Operator won’t hurt your credit card. It’s one of their more full coverage concealers. I’ve been using this so much lately that I’m worried about finishing it which means more shopping (what a hardship!).

9. Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Waterproof Concealer* – Maracuja Concealer was my first Tarte concealer love and I haven’t forgotten it, I just cheat on it at times. I had to buy a backup since I’m so close to finishing my original. I love this creamy liquid for under my eyes especially.

10.  Dior Nude Skin Perfecting Hydrating Concealer – That’s a mouthful but it does what it says. This is a revamp of their original Dior Nude Concealer and this newer one is more hydrating than it used to be. Color and texture are the same so if you loved the original, you’ll love this one more. It was recommended to me by a Nordstrom MA that I trust and she was absolutely right about it.

Well I could go on and on since I haven’t mentioned Dior Skinflash or any of my half dozen MAC Concealers but I decided not to cheat (this time). Have you used any of my Top Ten? Which concealer is your favorite? — Marcia
