Total Beauty and Painted Lady collaborate on a new collection

Total Beauty Painted Ladies Collection

Total Beauty Painted Ladies Collection

I was really excited to learn that one of my favorite bloggers, Sheila from Painted Ladies, worked with Total Beauty on a makeup box. Total Beauty is similar to a subscription box but you buy it only when you want it. There’s no commitment at all. I previously reviewed a collection that they did with Revlon and enjoyed that so when I learned that Painted Ladies had done a collection I couldn’t wait to buy it. I know this was a big honor for her.

The Total Beauty collection cost $15 complete but I did use a code that gave me another $1.50 off so it turned out to be $13.50. If you decide to buy this the code is TB4PL10 at checkout. You can see the original post about this HERE and the video post about this HERE.

Here’s what I got and let me tell you that I’m thrilled!!

  • NYX Color Lip Balm (full size 0.05 oz) – 2012 Award Winner
  • NYX Roll On Shimmer (full size, 0.05 oz)
  • Ferro Blush X3 (2 pods, deluxe sample .75g each)
  • Pacifica BB Cream (deluxe sample, .34 oz)
  • The Honest Company Healing Balm (deluxe size, 1 oz)

1) NYX Color Lip Balm in Xie Xie – a very pretty reddish pink shade. This is fragranced though so I didn’t swatch it since it will be in a giveaway. If it hadn’t been fragranced I’d have been super excited but it’s so pretty that I refuse to be disappointed. Different boxes will have different colors in them.

2) NYX Roll On Shimmer in RES10 BLUE – a gorgeous shade of blue and I know these are super easy to use since I have another shade.

3) Ferro Blush in Suzie’s Glow and Terra Cotta – these are small samples but with pigments a little goes a long way.

Other boxes will have different shades of the NYX balm and eyeshadow and the Ferro blushes so yours may not be identical to mine but the basic products are the same.

4) Pacifica Alight Multi-Mineral BB Cream deluxe sample – as a devotee of BB creams I love the chance to try a new one.

5) The Honest Company Healing Balm deluxe sample – I’m very happy about this. First The Honest Company has amazing reviews. It’s good for adult, children and babies (I love babies!!). And of course this is the company that the beautiful Jessica Alba has helped create.

6) Sample packet of EBOOST in Pink Lemonade, a dietary supplement you add to water for natural energy.

All in all this is a wonderful box and I’m so happy with these products and this box. The price is great, I got some lovely items plus 2 new to me brands. Congratulations to Painted Ladies’ Sheila Arkee for a job well done. — Marcia

Glossybox April 2013 brings you a “natural day”

Glossybox for April 2013

The subscription box fanatic is back with another report. This time it’s my April 2013 Glossybox. I’ve been subscribing to Glossybox since the very first box. Some boxes are great, some fall in the not so great category. Let’s see where this one falls on a scale of 1 to 10.

The first thing I noticed when I opened April’s Glossybox is that the Glossy Magazine wasn’t there. Personally I don’t care about the magazine so I didn’t mind at all and when I read the reason why, I liked that even better. In honor of Earth Day they decided to keep the magazine online only for April. I think that’s smart. Give me more product in the box and don’t waste resources! (score 10) Their theme is Natural Beauty this month and they achieve that through these products:

Let’s start in the shower with Wash With Joe – this is a Coffeemint Invigorating Body Wash. It contains an “invigorating blend of coffee and mint that helps revitalize and balance the body and the mind while keeping skin superbly clean”. I’m sure it’s great but I truly hate the smell of coffee. I admit that’s unusual so blast me if you must but Wash with Diet Coke would be more my style. (general score: 8, my personal score has to be 2 though)

From the shower you have to do your hair so they’ve included Alterna Haircare, Bamboo Style Boho Waves Tousled Texture Mist. This is formulated to give “just back from the beach waves”. You spray it on damp or dry hair and shape with your fingers for a loose, tousled style. I’ll have to see if this could work for me but my hair is straight since without being straight it’s just weird. (score 4)

Next we’ll have some skincare. Le Metier de Beaute Replenishing Daily Solution sample packet is included. This is a very nice moisturizer and if I keep getting these samples I’ll soon have enough to actually know if it works (I probably have 6 by now). If you buy this on Glossybox you can receive $75 off the $225 price with their code. (score 6)

Finally time for my face. This is where Glossybox has gone very natural. They’ve included a lip balm and a bronze toned blush. The lip balm is from The Honest Co. which is an organic company. They sell everything for your family. These lip balms come in a set of 3 for $9.95. They come in lavender mint, sweet orange vanilla and purely simple (the one I received). Even though I have a ton of lip balms, they get lost so easily so having another in the house is fine. (score 8)

Makeup wise they’ve included a TIGI Glow Blush in the color Haute. This is a baked formula in a rosy brown. I’m sure it’s lovely but … 1) I have very fair skin so it’s too dark for me; 2) I have more blushes than anyone can use so I’d like to be judicious in finding new ones; and 3) I’d rather not swatch it so that I can include it in a future Beauty Info Zone giveaway. One of my favorite eyeshadows from a long time ago is made by TIGI so I have faith that this blush is a great quality too. (score 7)

Last end your day with a relaxing bath and Bulgari Eau Parfume au the’, Tea Bag for Bath. Well you can do that, you couldn’t pay me to use this fragrance. This is the full size and valued at $9.50. Um, okay. It’s just not my style. (score 0 – no offense if you like Bulgari)

So there you have a natural day with April’s Glossybox. My scores weren’t too high but I don’t think it’s the box – I think it’s me. How would you rate this version of Glossybox? — Marcia
