A Touch O’ Tatcha Polishes Your Skin

Tatcha is a luxurious Japanese skincare line that I was anxious to try. The line is based on “Japanese beauty secrets passed down by generations that took a different approach to skincare – that less is more.” Scientists from Japan and the US have worked together to create the perfect blend of anti-aging superfood for our skin.

I ordered the Dry Skin Ritual kit and while all the products performed well, the Polished Gentle Rice Enzyme Powder was the stand out for me. There are four versions of this powder for regular, sensitive, dry, oily skin.

Tatcha Rice Enzyme Powder

Tatcha Rice Enzyme Powder

You use this powder as a second step in a two step (using the cleansing oil first) cleansing ritual. I use it in the morning (you can use it twice a day) on water-moistened skin. Into my wet hands, I shake about 1/2 teaspoon of powder and rub my hands together to get a lather and massage it into my face and neck. Rinse off and you’re done but your skin looks polished and clean.

I am going to buy this in the full size as the kit came with a smaller jar.  Tatcha, I gotcha in my skin care ritual.  — Phyllis

Formulated without:

A Travel Size of this is available for $15 and the full size is $65. Available at Tatcha’s website, Sephora, full size on QVC.

Some holiday Pop Fizz and Clink with December’s Boxycharm

Boxycharm for December 2015

Boxycharm for December 2015

The December Boxycharm subscription stands out to me mainly because I can smell it when I open the package. Happily it’s a delicious fragrance from a product I know I’ll enjoy. Boxycharm is a $21 subscription that comes monthly although you can stop anytime you want. I’ve been getting it since this summer and I’ve enjoyed this subscription a lot – it’s always loaded with full size items and worth a lot more than the $21 it costs me.

NelsonJ Argan Oil 7 Moisture Healing Mask ($23) is a brand I’ve tried but not in the coconut scent that is creating the delicious fragrance in my box. This hair mask is made of 100% Argan Oil and helps moisturize hair. What’s interesting about this is that it’s a PRE-WASH. Apply it for a minute for regular conditioning or wait 5 minutes for a deeper repair before you shampoo. The next step is to leave it in (don’t rinse) and then shampoo and condition hair as usual.

NCLA SO RICH CUTICLE OIL ($18) helps to revitalize and hydrate cuticles and nails. It contains Vitamin E extract paired with sunflower seed oil. The packaging is great with the dropper. Don’t take too much out though since for me one drop does the job although my cuticles behave normally.

TATCHA Aburatorigami Beauty Papers ($12) are wonderful for all skin types. I just get a little oily in my t-zone lately but I love using these luxury blotting papers to refresh my makeup. If you have oily skin they are even better! These are soft and whisper thin. They’re made of 100% natural abaca leaf and gold flake to absorb excess oil without disturbing your makeup.

Jelly Pong Pong All Over Glow ($15.95) is an oil free lightweight luminizing gel. I haven’t used it yet because I want to find out from others if it has a fragrance to it. It contains micronized pearlescent pigments and jasmine extract to highlight your face for a radiant complexion. (The black you see is from the crinkled paper in the box, it clings to shiny wrapping)

OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Americano ($19.90) I believe there were 3 shades sent out. When I saw the spoiler I knew that this would end up in a giveaway for two reasons. First Ofra lip products are more fragranced that I like but the main reason is that this brown red just isn’t my color. Therefore it’s not swatched or opened. What Ofra says about this Liquid Lipstick is that it’s non-feathering, creamy and soft in texture, and that it moisturizes lips.

OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Americano and BELLAPIERRE Gel Lip Liner in Cinnamon

OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Americano and BELLAPIERRE Gel Lip Liner in Cinnamon

BELLAPIERRE Waterproof Gel Lip Liner in Cinnamon ($17.99) is the perfect liner for the OFRA lipstick. These two were a great combination for Boxycharm this month. If you were these shades you’ll be in heaven. A gel liner (eyes or lips) is a great liner since they glide on. This too will be in a giveaway since they are like a Reese’s Peanut Butter cup and belong together.

The value of this month’s Boxycharm is $107. Even if I give away the two lip products I still have $69 worth I’ll love using. And a happy Beauty Info Zone winner. So it’s win win all around!

April’s PopSugar Must Have box – must you have this??

The April version of the PopSugar Must Have bag isn’t really a must have for me. I’ve had it about a week though and it’s slowly growing on me. Initially when I opened the box my heart sort of sank. It just didn’t look like anything that was worth $35 to me. My feelings have changed and I like the box but I can’t say I love it or would have purchased it if I’d had a preview.

PopSugar Must Have for April 2013

PopSugar Must Have for April 2013

I’ve reviewed almost all of the PopSugar Must Have boxes that I’ve bought. I’ve used a lot of the items in the boxes but I’ve also given away a lot of the items. PopSugar picks a theme and puts in items according to the theme. All boxes are exactly the same unlike some of the beauty subscriptions like Glossybox and Birchbox. I’ve only gotten one box so far that I’d consider to be beauty oriented. These are lifestyle boxes. April’s theme is for Earth Day (April 22nd) so it’s in the eco spirit.

Here are the items in the April PopSugar Must Have Box; their website’s picture makes it look like a bigger box than it actually is. Kai Perfume Oil (value $48); Shashi Nugget Bracelet ($30); Tatchi Evening Blotting Papers ($15); Alter Ego Dark Chocolate Quinoa bar (?? maybe $3-5); The Green Garmento All In One Bag ($10). This equals approximately $105 which places it right about where PopSugar says the value will be.

My opinions:

Kai Perfume Oil – I’m sure this is nice, it’s got a nice value for it. But I personally don’t wear fragrance so this will be either gifted or put in a Beauty Info Zone prize box. I’m probably in the minority when it comes to fragrances in subscription boxes but it’s the one thing I never want. Kai is a “light, fresh smell of gardenia and white exotic flowers.”

Shashi Nugget Bracelet – this is very cute but there’s a B.U.T. here. It’s meant to be worn stacked. They show these bracelets on their website along with other bracelets. So if you loved it and wanted it to have a certain look, it’s going to cost you more. Of course you might have other bracelets that it would look good with so it might not be a problem. The boxes had either cobalt, turquoise or gray. Even though their website shows it should be available in 6 colors, all that’s available at this writing is turquoise.  It’s 1/8th inch wide, has adjustable sizing and it’s the cord that holds the nugget that’s the turquoise shade.

Tatcha Evening Blotting Papers – I received Tatcha Blotting Papers once before from them. It’s nice, it’s beauty, it’s sort of special because of the brand. I’m just not thrilled. What makes these the “night” ones is that they are smaller so they fit into your clutch.

Tatchi Evening Blotting Papers

Alter Ego Dark Quinoa Organic Chocolate bar – I love dark chocolate. Here’s what they say about it “Delicious chocolate with the perfect amount of crunch, it’s also 100% Organic & Fair Trade Certified — so treat yourself without the guilt.” I guess if I pretend it’s Rice Krispies and it’s not healthy I might like it more. (Actually I did like it, it’s a very dark chocolate taste with a touch of crunch.)

Green Garmento All in One bag – If you are a fan of Shark Tank then you might have seen the company on the show. I think it’s very smart of them to get into a box like this. It gets their name out to a lot of people that might not know of them or glossed over them. When I saw what this big black thing was in my box I was a bit dismayed but I’m glad I have it. I’m going to use it for travel since it’s sturdy enough for that but they recommend that you drop off your dry cleaning in the bag and tell the cleaners to replace it in the bag and skip the plastic. Not a bad idea. They also make these longer if you needed it for maxi dresses or gowns. It says POPSUGAR on it in bright pink so your significant other may not want to take it on a business trip but it’s actually pretty handy.

April’s box brought Food (eh), Beauty x 2 (ok, not exciting), Fashion (not sure about this) and Lifestyle (my favorite item in the box). It wasn’t a great box but it wasn’t awful. You can get $5 off your first box by using the code REFERFRIENDS5. If you do order I’d love you forever if you used my referral code (http://popsu.gr/yqR). What do you think you’d enjoy from this box? Is it enough to get you to buy one yourself in spite of my “meh” review? — Marcia

Is the PopSugar Must Have box a must have? Read and find out!

I love the monthly subscription boxes. I have reviewed so many here on Beauty Info Zone and I continue to be fascinated with new ones. So far I’ve bought Glossybox, Birchbox, Beauty Bar Sample Society, My Glam, Julep Maven and Beauty Army. I’ve also reviewed BeautyBox5 and Conscious Box. To add to my collection I bought the PopSugar Must Have box for August. I didn’t have a clue what to expect. The website doesn’t give you much information. As a beauty blogger of course I was hoping to receive products in my particular niche but I did understand that this was a lifestyle box and I could be receiving just about anything.

A peek inside PopSugar Must Have

I’d say that last sentence pretty well describes what I got – just about anything. Actually it is a well conceived box of items for your whole life – eating, shopping, entertaining, looking your best (in several ways) and having a house that smells good. The box costs $35 though they did extend a $10 off coupon that I took advantage of at the time.

• Hand-selected items in beauty, fashion, home, fitness, and food

• Full-size products and premium items worth over $100

• Only $35 a month, with free shipping

Here are the items in my August box:

PopPhysique Original Butt DVD, Burn 500 Calories – this is great for those of you who exercise at home. PopPhysique is an exercise studio that also produces DVDs on what they teach. The set of 3 is sold on Amazon for $29.95 plus shipping.

PopPhysique DVD

Alora Diffuser in Isola– this is a beautiful clean cut diffuser that will last for months. To be honest I’ve never used a diffuser since I’m so careful about fragrance but I’m thinking I might go for it rather than gift it. I love the look of the bottle and I know it will fit in my guest bathroom. Isola is scented with gardenia, tuberose and fig. A 16 oz. bottle with sticks measures approximately 17 inches tall that  lasts 4-6 months costs $90 (including bottle, sticks and open wood cap).

Alora Ambiance Diffuser

Govino portable wine glasses–  contemporary glasses for outdoor entertaining. These are called wine glasses but they could be used for just about anything. There are 4 in a box and they are terrific. There’s a divot for your finger so it won’t slip out. These are perfect for sitting out on the deck and having something to drink. They even included 4 paper coasters and a 15% off coupon  for Benzinger Family Winery. The glasses sell for $12.95.

Govino wine glasses and 15% off Benzinger Winery coupon/coasters

Govino wine glass (1 of 4)

Pretzel Crisps– these are the snack to serve when using your Govino glasses I guess. I’m sure you’ve seen Pretzel Crisps in stores as they’ve become popular as a no fat snack. This is considered an extra in the box.

Pretzel Crisps

Baggu Bag– this perfect purse size bag (4 ½ inches square) unfolds to hold up to 50 pounds of your shopping purchases. Mine is a beautiful hot pink with white polka dots. It’s reusable and perfect for when you are out and about or on a trip. I love this and I’m thrilled to have it in my PopSugar Must Have box. These retail for $9 and come in so many pretty colors and patterns. Their website shows lots of fun goodies from them too. I could go nuts on their website!

Baggu bag folded

Tatcha Blotting Papers– I’ve always wanted something from Tatcha and I love to have blotting papers so put them together in an attractive package and I’m happy. These are a Japanese brand that absorb oil extremely well. These cost $12 a package (score!!)

Tatcha Blotting papers

Tatcha blotting papers information

Sprout Skincare – there are two Sprout items in the box that are called Beauty Extras. Sprout Cleanser and Exfoliant in deluxe mini sizes. This is a US company that is made by “real people” (I love that they say that). Sprout’s Exfoliant is pure kitchen-cabinet awesomeness. From the company: ”We take organic oats and almonds, grind them until they’re not too rough but not too soft, add mineral-rich sea salt harvested from coasts nearby, and voila: a simple, nourishing, super-effective exfoliant that leaves your skin soft and glowing.” A full size of 4 ounces sells for $28. I can’t find the size on the bottle but my guess is 1 oz or more.

Sprout Exfoliant and Cleanser bottles

There’s also their cleanser which is made with Organic Rosewater, Organic Vegetable Glycerin and Organic Tea Tree Oil. A 4 oz. bottle is $24. Here’s the blurb: “When did scrubbing your face with harsh chemicals become the standard way to get clean? We think that’s weird. Next to rinsing with water, Sprout’s Cleanser is about as simple as you can get. It’s perfect for problem and sensitive skin. It’s gentle, non-drying, and contains no alcohol. Plus it smells awesome. We start with a traditional organic rosewater-and-glycerin base and add a tiny bit of organic tea tree oil. No soap, no alcohol, no para-sulfate-whatchamacallits.”  I love companies with a sense of fun and I think I’m going to love using these two products and learning more about Sprout.

One last goodie is a Bear Naked Granola package. I guess once you exercise your butt off and exfoliate your skin then you’ll be ready to be Bear Naked with this granola. They tell you that you can even eat it naked right out of the bag. If so please send a picture!!

Bear Naked Granola packet

I really like this subscription box. So much that I’ve ordered the September one at full price. At first I was disappointed because I like beauty and the July box pictures show some gorgeous polish and lipstick but once I analyzed it I realized that this is just fun. I can gift items from it or keep them myself. I more than got my money’s worth considering that the Alora Diffuser is worth $90 alone; my estimate is that PopSugar Must Have box contained $150 worth of product. This box really is a Must Have after all. — Marcia
