Makeup splurges for better or worse

What constitutes a makeup splurge? Is it money? Is it the lack of resistance? Is it weakness? I say it all depends on the situation. A splurge can be something that’s $5 or something that’s $100. It’s all what you believe you want rather than just need. Today I’m featuring 7 products that I feel I splurged on. Some are worth every cent, some are regrets. Please check out my choices to see if you agree.  —  Marcia

NATASHA DENONA EYESHADOW PALETTE 10 ($95)

Natasha Denona Eyeshadow Palette 10

This is my most expensive splurge and one I’m on the fence about. $95 is a lot to spend on a palette but it does have 10 gorgeous shades that are outside of my comfort zone to some degree. The shades are #56p Pearl (champagne toned shimmer), #06p Anthrazit (charcoal black with a subtle silver shimmer), #47p Dark Sepia (dark chocolate brown with a slight gold shimmer), #02m Blue Space (rich royal blue with a shimmer finish), #27m Slate (vivid purple shimmer), #19m Deep Teal (intense teal shimmer), #25m Aura (cream white with a gold iridescent finish), #13m Raw Gold (deep gold with a bronze undertone), #87m Light Coral (peach shadow with a subtle gold shimmer), #07m Graphite (dark grey with silver shimmer).

Natasha Denona Eyeshadow Palette 10

As you can see these are all shimmer shades but the extent of the shimmer is unique to each shade. It’s really not the most practical palette because of all the shimmer. The problem for me isn’t the cost though but the quality of the shades isn’t uniform. Some apply easily while others want to fight with me.

WAS THIS A GOOD SPLURGE?  Depends, it got me over my Natasha Denona craving and I didn’t buy the more expensive palettes. I like this but I can’t say I love it. (Swatches from Sephora, mine don’t look like this though)

PRETTY VULGAR NIGHTINGALE EYESHADOW PALETTE ($35)

After falling in love with Pretty Vulgar Early Bird Eyeshadow palette I was anxious for more. But I’m a pretty staid individual colorwise so I went with the tried and true. Considering I have 357962 nude and brown palettes did I need this? That’s why it’s a splurge, I don’t need it.

Pretty Vulgar Nightingale Eyeshadow Palette

WAS THIS A GOOD SPLURGE? I’m the wishy washy queen right now because I haven’t decided. I’ve had it for a few weeks and haven’t touched it. Some of the Early Bird shadows are disappointing and I’m worried that I’ll find that here too. What to do?

Pretty Vulgar Nightingale Eyeshadow Palette

DIOR METALIZER – METAL CREME SHADOW ($25)

Once I saw the Dior Metalizers reviewed I couldn’t stop thinking about them. Metallics are hot for fall and I’ve always loved metallics in accessories and cosmetics. I chose Bronze Tension – mistake! It’s too dark and doesn’t blend well on me.

Dior Metalizer Cream Shadow in Bronze Tension

I want to like this so badly that I can taste it. I love to start with a cream shadow and use it as a base or to highlight powders. But I picked the wrong shade. I don’t see any metallic on my eyes with this very dark shade. (inject crying emoji here)

Dior Metalizer Cream Shadow in Bronze Tension

WAS THIS A GOOD SPLURGE? Obviously not which saddens me.

STILA HUGE EXTREME LASH MASCARA ($23)

There’s a story behind buying this mascara. I received a sample size in one of my subscriptions and put it aside for a while. When cleaning to move I find it and tried it. I totally fell in love with it. Wearing Stila Huge was like being granted false eyelashes. You know I couldn’t wait to buy this in spite of having umpteen unopened mascaras.

Stila Huge Extreme Mascara

Stila Huge Extreme Mascara

Well … the tube I bought is a dud. Some days my lashes look totally amazing, other days they are a mushy mess. I’ve determined that the problem is that the opening for the wand is too large which makes too much mascara coming out. There’s none of that satisfying sound you hear when opening a tube. Even cleaning it off doesn’t guarantee that I’ll love my lashes that day.

WAS THIS A GOOD SPLURGE? With mascara you just never know what you’re going to get. One tube can make angels sing, the next tube can make them cry. This makes my lashes cry 50% of the time.

ARTIS PALM BRUSH ($65)

The Artis Palm Brush is absolutely incredible. My words can not describe how much I love this brush and the Artis Oval 10 brush. Yes expensive, yes worth every cent to me. Here’s a description that explains the Palm Brush: “A brush with a generously sized, rounded oval of fibers to provide coverage to a larger areas of the face and body. It features more than 250,000 fibers. Artis brushes are made exclusively with CosmeFibre, a revolutionary engineered fiber made for applying cosmetic and makeup products.”

Artis Palm Brush

I use this and the Oval 10 for liquid foundation since I can’t believe the softness of the brushes and the airbrushed application.

WAS THIS A GOOD SPLURGE? Without a doubt. Even though I have the Oval 10 which is the same except that the Palm brush doesn’t have a handle, I wanted this and caved. Happy happy.

TARTE SHAPE TAPE aka DOUBLE DUTY BEAUTY SHAPE TAPE CONTOUR CONCEALER ($25)

So I found myself in Ulta without a plan to buy anything and I came across the infamous Tarte Shape Tape. When Shape Tape first came out you couldn’t find it anywhere not even Tarte’s website. That made the hunt more real. The last thing I needed was another concealer.

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer in Fair Beige

This very fat tube and very fat wand are quite interesting. I’ve always liked the concealers that Tarte makes and this one intrigued me. There are 14 shades to choose from and several that are light enough for me. After much deliberation I chose Fair Beige which I now see is for fair skin with pink undertones. The color choice was right.

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer in Fair Beige

Ulta explains how to use this as a contour and as a concealer. I mainly use it under my eyes. I rarely start a day with concealer but I do add it if I’m going somewhere later in the day or evening. “Powered by Amazonian clay and conditioning mango seed and shea butters, the nutrient-rich concealer helps promote skin elasticity and illumination with each crease-free application.”

WAS THIS A GOOD SPLURGE? At first I didn’t think so but it’s really grown on me. I have a ton of concealers and wondered why I bought another, but I’m glad I did. It doesn’t crease under my eyes and does a good job of covering everything up.

KJAER WEIS CREAM BLUSH – BLOSSOMING ($56)

Now this was a true splurge. I actually had no intention of buying this and then suddenly it was in my cart and on my CC. Hmm. I did no research into this other than knowing that Kjaer Weis was a luxury brand and that the reviews were amazing. But it’s a cream blush and I’m a nut for cream blush.

Kjaer Weis Cream Blush

The first thing to know is that this is the heaviest cosmetic I own. It could be used as a weapon. The metal compact is beautiful on my vanity and slides open to display the creamiest of all cream blushes.

Kjaer Weis Cream Blush in Blossoming

Blossoming is a beautiful light peachy pink shade that is subtle yet shows up perfectly on my fair skin. I’m totally in love with this color.

Kjaer Weis Cream Blush in Blossoming

Kjaer Weiss blush is – Certified organic – Formulated with Rose Rubiginosa Seed Oil to fight signs of aging – Free from gluten, petroleum, parabens, artificial coloring and fragrance. This comes in 5 shades that all look totally amazing to me. Lovely is on my list for the next time I “need” to splurge.

Kjaer Weis Cream Blush in Blossoming

This isn’t a cream to powder but it’s not sticky. I apply a light amount of setting powder to my cheeks first and then use my finger to blend the cream on. It melts onto my finger and applies like buttah! It’s infused with Castor Seed and Jojoba Oils to help strengthen and nourish the skin and has a Beeswax base that’s well-suited to all complexions.

WAS THIS A GOOD SPLURGE? Yes yes and yes again. I love it and when I can afford it I’ll purchase another.

What’s the verdict on my makeup splurges? Would you buy any of these yourself? Do you have any of these? I’d love for you to share.  —  Marcia

Don’t forget to see what my friends have splurged on.

Color me GUILTY – of tanning, glowing, and sparkling!

My self tanner addiction...

My self tanner addiction…

Well. Now I feel a little ashamed…I mean, this amount of completely unneccessary products is basically obscene. Guess my self tanner/bronzer/shimmer addiction is now officially out of the closet!

*PR samples/purchase by me/affiliate links

I honestly had no idea how many of these types of products I had going until I gathered them all for their family pictures. These are the ones I have open…I decided to leave the second cousins (those awaiting to be christened) for another time. I think I am addicted to self tanners because they hide uneven skin tone and give the illusion of looking slightly thinner. Here are all (well, most…I found some more after the pics were done!) the self tanners I have open right now:

Self tanning lotions

Self tanning lotions

Self tanning mousse

Self tanning mousse

Self tanning sprays

Self tanning sprays

I have three different types:  lotions, sprays, and foam/mousse. I use the lotions in the winter when my skin is at its driest. The foam/mousse are great when I am in a hurry because they need a little less work to get them applied correctly. I use the sprays mainly in the summer. I have a thing about not putting on any heavy body products when it’s hot out – it makes me feel funny. Anyone else weird like that??  I especially love Xen-Tan and Vita Liberata (the latter isn’t pictured because it was shy and said no photos today, please).

My addiction doesn’t stop at self tanners…I am also addicted to body bronzers. I have sprays, lotions, mousse…I love them all.

Body bronzers

Body bronzers

No one does shimmery bronzed skin like Scott Barnes and I adore Guerlain and Red Carpet Kolour (RCK).

Also addicted to spray on shimmering bronzers…if it has a coconut scent, I can’t do without it!!

Spray on shimmer and sparkle

Spray on shimmer and sparkle

I am sad that tarte doesn’t have the Celebutant Dry Oil Spray anymore. I highly recommend the Lucy B Frangipani Bronzing Oil Spray and the Guerlain Terracotta Bronzing Spray. Hampton Sun makes amazing shimmer sprays too.

Oh, and how could I forget — every day I put two drops of this Paula’s Choice Sun 365 Self-Tanning Concentrate in my moisturizer to keep a consistent color. It’s subtle but awesome.

The battle of liquid liners – tarte precision longwear eyeliner and Physicians Formula Eye Booster

Even though I professed to have found my holy grail of brown liquid eyeliners I must admit that I didn’t stop. I’ve kept going and have continued my search. I still love Youngblood Maroon but I was hoping to find one that was easier to get ahold of. With a liquid eyeliner sometimes I’ll find that it works perfectly one day and the next it’s drying out and not the same. In one week I found that with both Youngblood and Stila so the search was back on.

My two choices were tarte Lights, Camera Lashes Precision Longwear Eyeliner in brown and Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Liner + Serum also in Deep Brown.

tarte Lights Camera Lashes Precision Longwear Eyeliner

tarte Lights Camera Lashes Precision Longwear Eyeliner

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum

If you had asked me before I bought these two which I’d most likely prefer I’d have said tarte. I am a big fan of tarte cosmetics and have many wonderful products that I love from them and that get used constantly. Other than the gel eyeliners that Physicians Formula used to make, I really don’t have much PF in my collection. Let’s see who is the winner of this battle.

TARTE LIGHTS, CAMERA, LASHES PRECISION LONGWEAR EYELINER is available in two shades – brown, which is described as deep brown, and black. This $20 eyeliner comes in beautiful tarte purple packaging with a gold and hot pink/purple box that’s just as beautiful.

tarte Lights Camera Lashes Precision Longwear Eyeliner

tarte Lights Camera Lashes Precision Longwear Eyeliner

The eyeliner wears for a long time and I have no problem with it lasting just like promised. This is limited edition which surprised me since I’d expect tarte to have a liquid liner among their selections. As beautiful as this looks, I have two problems with it. #1 is the color

tarte Lights Camera Lashes Precision Longwear Eyeliner

tarte Lights Camera Lashes Precision Longwear Eyeliner

Does this look brown to you? It looks black on my hand and also on my eyes. I have favorite black liquids but it’s brown I wear most of the time. Problem #2 is the length of the tip

tarte Lights Camera Lashes Precision Longwear Eyeliner

tarte Lights Camera Lashes Precision Longwear Eyeliner

It’s very long and I find it hard to control. Considering that I wear liquid eyeliners all the time, I do have the hang of them but this tarte Lights Camera Lashes Precision Longwear Eyeliner gives me grief. I always make mistakes that have to be corrected. That combined with the very deep color means this is the loser of this battle for me.

PHYSICANS FORMULA 2-IN-1 LASHLASH BOOSTING EYELINER + SERUM is a double duty product. Not only is it an easy to use liquid liner but it’s meant to help with lash growth.

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum

I’ve only been using this for a few weeks so I don’t know if it will help with it but the claims say that it will help with longer and fuller looking lashes. I’ve been using NR Skin Lash Teez and I’ve noticed a difference in the length of my lashes and I do believe that this is helping too. It can’t hurt can it?

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum

Now let’s talk about the two things that I didn’t love about the tarte – color and tip point.

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum IS brown. It’s a great brown too because it looks brown and natural when on my eyes. The tip is very easy to work with because it’s a great length. It’s at least 1/2 cm shorter than the tarte. That may not seem like much but it’s the difference between a sloppy line and a clean neat one.

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum

The Physicians Formula liner is also less expensive and you know there are always specials on it. I bought mine at Meijers and got 10% off plus $5 off my beauty purchase. CVS seems to charge more for this but then they have reward card deals almost every week.

Obviously the winner of the battle of liquid eyeliners was revealed earlier and it’s Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum. This is the one I’ll continue to buy and recommend to you.  What are your favorite liquid eyeliners? Have you tried either of these? — Marcia

tarte Beauty in the Basics QVC TSV Collection review and swatches

tarte beauty basicsThe tarte Beauty in the Basics QVC Today’s Special Value Collection will be sold for one day only – Monday, May 11th. Regularly $58, this set is going for $47.96. It’s a great deal on an excellent collection. Take a look at the six full size items inside!

Amazonian clay smoothing balm in Fair

Amazonian clay smoothing balm in Fair

The Amazonian clay smoothing balm and bamboo balm brush are both new and are truly lovely. While this smoothing balm is in the shade Fair (so it is definitely going to end up in Marcia’s makeup bag) I really like it. I would need the light-medium shade, but this creamy, medium coverage foundation is very very interesting. It has a great texture. I thought it was going to be heavy like a cream foundation, but instead it is light and smooth. There is no oily or greasy texture, yet it has plenty of slip and is nicely buildable. It is a perfect foundation for hot summer months. The brush is substantial, that’s for sure  I love it as a buffing brush, but it is too large to get into smaller areas like under the eyes. Still, it’s a great brush and will get tons of use.

lights, camera, lashes 4-in-1 mascara and Amazonian clay tightlining eyeliner

lights, camera, lashes 4-in-1 mascara and Amazonian clay tightlining eyeliner

There are three eye products, including the mascara staple lights, camera, lashes 4-in-1 mascara, and the new Amazonian clay tightlining eyeliner in a black/brown shade. The eyeliner is perfect for tightlining, which is lining the upper lids from underneath the lash line. I am a huge fan of tightlining because my eyelids have a ridge, so tightlining completes the lined look and makes a big difference for me. The tarte tightlining eyeliner is the perfect size for this – it reminds me of a brow lining pencil. The texture is harder than a typical eyeliner, and the liner really stays put. I also love this for a very thin line on the lower lash line.

I really love the colored clay eyeshadow palette. I can’t say that the colors are anything out of the ordinary, but this is the Beauty in the Basics Collection, right?? These colors are staples for any makeup kit: classic cream, simple slate, tantalizing tan and breathtaking brown. The biggest news, though, is the texture of these eyeshadows. When I swatched them I literally said “Ooooooohhhhhh!” Talk about buttery smooth. They are so buttery they almost feel wet. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous. Trust me, you want this palette.

The final item is the LipSurgence lip creme, a chunky lip pencil in a pretty, shiny honeysuckle pink. This is an excellent summer shade.

1.  MARACUJA MIRACLE FOUNDATION is both a foundation and a concealer. This is a new product from tarte that is very hydrating. It’s available in 6 shades (fair, light, light-medium, medium, tan and deep). The foundation is infused with maracuja oil for a firmer, brighter and smoother appearance. I’m crazy about my maracuja items like the concealer so this is a great edition to the line and my life.

tarte Maracuja Miracle foundation

The foundation has a dropper inside for easy access. Shake the bottle first and put a few drops on your face. Then blend with the brush included. It’s not a thick foundation yet it will give you great buildable coverage. I have it in Light which is a little on the yellow side so I’ll have to buy this in Fair which I know will be perfect. I know they call this a foundcealer but I don’t find it enough coverage for concealer. It looks great as a foundation though.

2.  MARACUJA MIRACLE FOUNDATION BRUSH is a great brush for this foundation and for your cosmetic life. All tarte brushes are cruelty free, soft and do their job perfectly. I won’t tell anyone you are using it with every foundation you own if you won’t!

3) LIMITED EDITION AMAZONIAN CLAY EYE & CHEEK PALETTE is absolutely beautiful. Not only does this beautiful palette contain 6 new eyeshadow shades but it also contains a very flattering blush. This is by far my favorite piece in the collection. I’m an eyeshadow fanatic and these are such gorgeous colors that they are worth my fanaticism.

tarte palette swatches: Pink Beyond, Taupe for the Best, Dreams Plum True

tarte palette swatches: Pink Beyond, Taupe for the Best, Dreams Plum True

Pink Beyond is a very soft pink matte shadow that I use as a brow highlight. It’s beautiful too if you want a light shadow look to use it as a lid shade. Taupe for the Best is a dreamy shimmering steel taupe. The shimmer is soft and the color will knock your socks off.  Dreams Plum True is a matte purple that applies like a satin. It’s dark enough to be used to line but I love it on the outer corner of my eye.

tarte Out of this Pearl, Thistle be the Day, and Paint the Brown

tarte Out of this Pearl, Thistle be the Day, and Paint the Brown

Out of this Palette is a pearly golden ivory that is fabulous on. It has a beautiful sheen that I just love. Thistle be the Day is described as a plush matte greige. I see taupe and I love taupe shadows. Paint the Brown is a matte chocolate brown that will make the perfect lining shade or crease shade for anything in this palette.

tarte Talented blush

tarte Talented blush

The blush in the palette is a full size tarte Amazonian clay shade in Talented, a color limited to this TSV palette. It’s a peachy coral though I find there’s a good amount of pink in it too. Beautiful color that works well with all the eyeshadow shades.

4) The double ended eyeshadow brush has a crease/blending end and a lay down side. tarte tsv brush blend

5) LipSurgence Liquid Lip Shine in Exquisite is a limited edition shade that has a great texture to it. It’s sheer yet imbues enough color on its own that you don’t need another lipstick unless you want it of course. LipSurgence Liquid Lip Shine are very hydrating and not too sticky.

Great goodies from October’s Glossybox

Glossybox

Glossybox

I’m guessing that we all love surprises although there are a variety of surprises we could have in our life. Some aren’t so great (falling and being out of commission for months) and some are wonderful (finding about a new baby or marriage) while others are surprises that come because we want them. Glossybox sent their latest surprise box and this qualifies to be in my third category – surprises because we /want them.

October’s Glossybox is a welcome surprise for me and added some needed fun to my life. While I haven’t had a chance to use them all, I think this box is loaded with products that are going to be well loved for me.

Contents of the October Glossybox

Contents of the October Glossybox

I was especially thrilled when I opened the pink box to see some familiar packaging – TARTE!  One of my favorite brands and definitely one of my favorite products: POWER PIGMENT in Flush. I’ve raved constantly about these lip crayons so it’s no surprise to hear me rave again. Flush is a sheer berry hue that will suit most complexions. This is a matte lip but it doesn’t feel or look that matte to me. I find the Power Pigments to be comfortable on my lips. They are easy to use, easy to wear, and beautiful. With Flush you can create a stained effect by just dabbing it with your finger. If you don’t have any of these Tarte Lip Crayons or don’t have Flush then this $24 pays for the cost of the box. The rest is just gravy!

The next product I pulled out of the box is from NAILS INC. I have always enjoyed the polishes that I’ve bought from Nails Inc. and this is new to me: Westminster Bridge Matte Top Coat ($10). What’s great about owning a matte top coat is that you can get double wear out of your polishes. Do your manicure with a glossy top coat, wear it a few days, then apply this matte top coat and change up your look in an instant. Another thing I’ve been seeing a lot is people that apply the matte polish/top coat on their full nail and then doing a “french” tip in a shiny top coat.

You can’t miss the biggest product in the box PROGANIX VOLUME ROOT BOOST FINISH + BODY BUILDER ($11.99, 5.1 FL OZ). Proganix has gone through some name changes in the last year so you might be more familiar with their original name of Organix. Same great line, just a new name. The Volume Root Boost is to help give you not just bigger hair but it adds volume and body. It contains soy protein and caffeine to walk up your style. It’s a great shine booster too.

Next is pampering time and boy do I need that. SESHA BOTANICAL HYDRO MASK ($9 each) is a full sheet facial mask that is great for calming down your skin. It contains cucumber, green tea and marigold which are known for anti-inflammatory benefits. Give yourself 15-30 minutes of relaxation with this mask on and you’ll be glowing after.

For all you fragrance lovers out there Glossybox has included one of the prettiest minis I’ve seen in a long time. The fragrance is VINCE CAMUTO AMORE EAU DE PARFUM and this is a limited edition. According to Glossybox this stars “ephemeral scent of fresh-cut flowers and fragrant fruits atop a base of comforting cashmere, rich amber and earthy sandalwood”. The fragrance is a sensual one. The mini bottle is a beautiful addition to your fragrance wardrobe.

Lately Glossybox has been adding in some bonuses and this month is no different. My box contained a $40 gift car to HELLO FRESH which is a food service. You go to their website at hellofresh.com, pick out recipes you want to try from their weekly menus, and order the pre-measured ingredients to create the recipe fresh at home. They deliver nationwide and have veggie boxes as well as ones with meat products. It’s an interesting concept and a nice way to try it out for free.

Makeup Wars loves Nude lippies

Makeup Wars and Top Ten Tuesdays have tempted you with pink lips, peach and coral lips, red lips but never true nudes. Now’s the time though and I was ready for this challenge. Most of my collection is nude lips. It got to the point that I had so many that I had to force myself not to buy new ones unless I was absolutely desperate for them. I was once a MACaholic and I’d buy every rendition of nude they had – and then I’d wear them twice and put them aside. I haven’t chosen any MAC to share with you since I don’t seem to grab for them anymore so instead you’ll see some of my favorites from other brands.

Makeup Wars Nude Lip favorites

Makeup Wars Nude Lip favorites

Nude lips are interesting because they all have different undertones plus what I consider nude might be too light for you depending on your skintone.

Makeup Wars lip crayons: Ardency Inn, Tarte (x2), Hourglass

Makeup Wars lip crayons: Ardency Inn, Tarte (x2), Hourglass

I’m a big fan of lip crayons but nude ones don’t overpopulate my collection. Ardency Inn Bowery, tarte exposed and Hourglass Nude No 3 are the ones I usually crave.

Hourglass Nude No3 and Ardency Inn Bowery

Hourglass Nude No3 and Ardency Inn Bowery

I bought Hourglass Femme Nude Stylo No3 because everyone was raving about these. Hourglass has an amazing reputation and these Nude lip crayons made beauty lovers so excited. No3 is described as “medium rose nude with hint of pink”. This has a pink undertone but it’s very light once on my lips, not medium to my eyes.

top Hourglass, bottom Ardency Inn

top Hourglass, bottom Ardency Inn

ARDENCY INN AMERICANA Natural Lip Color Pencil in Bowery was my next buy. These are $23 compared to the $30 of Hourglass so that made me happy. ARDENCY INN lip crayons seem to be truer nude shades too. Bowery is a light peach on my lips even though Sephora tells me that it’s a “light nude with pink undertones”. It just isn’t pink on me but it is pretty and I’m very comfortable in it. The consistency is smoother and a little more glossy than Hourglass.

tarte exposed - old vs new versions

tarte exposed – old vs new versions

Tarte Exposed was one of the colors saved when tarte revamped all their lip crayons. Tarte still sells LipSurgence but I didn’t find Exposed. The original fat crayon has a matte finish while the new tarte exposed is a glossier finish. The new pencils are called Power Pigments and Exposed is described as “nude with pink undertones”.

Power Pigment in exposed is glossier and slightly more pink while the original is definitely a matte on me and a little darker. Can’t go wrong with either but there is a slight difference between the two.

GOSH Darling

GOSH Darling

GOSH Darling was a lipstick that everyone had to have. It was so hot on boards like Makeup Alley that you felt like you didn’t belong there if you didn’t own it.

I finally got it and was shocked at how much it looks like concealer. It’s so light and so beige that I couldn’t get it to show in a single swatch photo. I couldn’t resist putting this in even though it’s not a favorite, I’m including it for shock value.

These are the lipsticks that I reach for when I want moisturized lips with beautiful nude shades. Armani in particular makes outstanding nude colors for lips and I think they are among the finest lipsticks available. I get a little overwhelmed at an Armani counter because I want too much. All of these lipsticks were bought long ago.

Rouge d’Armani in 103 is my newest Armani and still available. 103 is the pink nude that I love to wear. It looks beige in the tube but once on it picks up pink.

Armani Shine 17 is an oldie but goodie. It’s more sheer than 103 but just as glossy.

LUNASOL 25 is also an older lipstick and I doubt it’s still for sale. Lunasol lipsticks were introduced to me by an old friend. I’d go nuts cosmetic shopping in Japan or Singapore! I have 2 LUNASOL lipsticks and they are so wonderfully creamy. They have a very similar consistency and look to the Armani ones I love.

Tom Ford Pink Dune, Shiseido RS701

Tom Ford Pink Dune, Shiseido RS701

Tom Ford Pink Dune barely has any color on my lips but that doesn’t stop me from loving it. It was a limited edition shade that I bought in the early winter but didn’t really wear at first. It felt too nude for winter but I can wear it now. Sometimes I’ll put it over another lipstick to ‘nude’ it up a bit.

I had to include Shiseido RS701 even though it’s not available. This was my first Shiseido lipstick and it reminds me of shopping with my blog partner Lisa. It’s one of my favorite lipstick buys. It’s a pink nude (RS stands for Rose) that has the perfect depth for me.

I’m sure these swatches all look alike but as a true beauty afficionado knows they are different as different can be.
