Looking for Pantone 2016? Here are some favorites from IT Cosmetics, Sally Hansen and Surratt Beauty

pantone colors of the year 2016pantone 2016

Top Ten Tuesday is sure that you’ve seen the above pictures of the new PANTONE COLORS OF THE YEAR 2016. Two pastels that make me very happy because they are shades that I can easily wear and want to own. I’ve always loved pink and I wear a lot of blue. Rose Quartz and Serenity will be featured in a lot of cosmetics and clothes, especially for spring. But let’s see what you can get right now.pantone makeup wars

Sally Hansen Pantone nail polishes

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Arm Candy and In Full Blue-m

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Arm Candy and In Full Blue-m

Sally Hansen has some terrific polishes that will be perfect for your Pantone needs. They include

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Sugar Fix, Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in In Full Blue-m, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Set Sail

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Crème de la Crème, Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Arm Candy,  Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Petal Pusher

When wearing Sally Hansen I mostly use their Complete Salon Manicure polishes so I was thrilled to receive In Full Blue-m and Arm Candy.  Arm Candy is a sheer light pink that I needed three coats of to make sure that there wasn’t visible nail lines showing, I’d probably do better with 4 coats though since its quite sheer. In Full Blue-m is a grayed blue on me. It was a little beyond a typical pastel and is a great winter blue. With the Complete Salon Manicure polishes I get a long wear with great shine.

IT COSMETICS LIPSTICK AND LIP GLOSSES

IT Cosmetics is a great brand to turn to for a dose of Pantone 2016. There are 3 lip products that being considered this year’s shades: Je Ne Sais Quoi Vitality Lip Flush, Je Ne Sais Quoi Vitality Lip Blush Hydrating Lip Gloss Stain, and New Anchor Blue Vitality Lip Flush Butter Gloss. That may be a mouthful but your mouth won’t care once you are wearing any of these.

IT Cosmetics Je Ne Sais Quoi Vitality Lip Flush and Hydrating Lip Gloss Stain

IT Cosmetics Je Ne Sais Quoi Vitality Lip Flush and Hydrating Lip Gloss Stain

We’ve talked about the Je Ne Sais Quoi line for quite a while. The Vitality Lip Flush is one I’ve used often. It looks almost clear in the tube but your body temperature and chemistry is what’s going to create the color. It’s the mood ring of lipstick. It has amazing hydration and a great shine so it bucks the matte trend (which is good news for me). It contains plum oil, cherry oil, shea butter, argan & jojoba, vitamins C&E, green & white tea and aloe.

IT Cosmetics Je Ne Sais Quoi

Je Ne Sais Quoi Vitality Lip Blush Hydrating Lip Gloss Stain has similar qualities and ingredients. It has more shine and even more hydration if that’s possible to believe. There are 9 butters and oils that make up this formula. I found this adorable Your Je Ne Sais Quoi Set at Ulta that contains both the Lipstick and Gloss in an adorable bag for just $28. Total bargain. Total Pantone 2016.

News Anchor Blue Vitality Flush Butter Gloss is the most fun lipgloss ever. No you won’t have blue lips but your teeth will look whiter wearing this gloss. This applies on your lips as a teeny bit light blue but is really clear. It counteracts the yellow you might have on your teeth to make your smile look even brighter. If you are in love with hydrating glosses then IT Cosmetics is what you want on your shopping list.

SURRATT CULTIVE PRISMATIQUE LIPSTICK was one of my treats to myself during the VIB sale. I couldn’t resist this blue lipstick that turns opalescent pink once applied. It’s wonderful to apply over another lipstick to change that up too. I’m a big fan of the Surratt Prismatique lipsticks and just could resist this fun one.

Last is a product I don’t have but I am seriously eyeing,  YOUNGBLOOD GLAMOUR EYES PALETTE. I’ve seen this on a variety of blogs and I love the particular shades of blue in it. I like that they are paired with browns making it easy to wear. Glamour Eyes is the next palette on my list.

Brow and lash love for 2015

Make-up, applying mascara

As I was doing my makeup for New Year’s Eve I realized that the biggest change in my cosmetic life for 2015 was that I absolutely can not go without doing my brows anymore. A combination of age and illness created eyebrows that just didn’t cut it anymore. I went for most of my life not touching my eyebrows with much more than a tweezers. They had a great natural shape and were filled in nicely. That’s not the case any more. That’s why I decided to share the 2015 eyebrow and eyelash products that have made a difference for me.

PIXI BROW POWDER PALETTE  –  Shades of Brows

Pixi Beauty Brow Palette

Pixi Beauty Brow Palette

This is my most used brow product for everyday. My hair isn’t necessarily the same shade from color to color so I appreciate having a choice of shades that I can use straight or mix. Right now I’m dipping twice into the darkest shade and once in the one lighter since my hair is very dark at the moment. I’ll get it colored soon and can reevaluate how I want to use the colors. One of the best buys at $12 I’ve found. *

PIXI ENDLESS BROW GEL PEN

Pixi Endless Brow Gel Pen in Medium

Pixi Endless Brow Gel Pen in Medium

The Endless Brow Gel Pen is another best for me from Pixi. This is not a universally loved product but I like it so much that I bought 3 the last time I ordered from Pixi. It’s not really a pen, it’s a pencil that is gel-like in texture. It’s a heavier look than the brow palette because the gel is thicker. I like wearing this when my brows really need attention.

SENNA COSMETICS BROW SHAPER

Senna Brow Duo in Brunette

Senna Brow Duo in Brunette

I love Senna Cosmetics but I hadn’t tried their eyebrow products before because I just didn’t care about my eyebrows. Now that I have this Brow Shaper with the plumping brow shade and pomade I really appreciate why Eugenia Weston, owner and cosmetic guru, is so well known for eyebrows. These powders really cling to my eyebrow hair and fill in naturally where I’ve lost some hair. Another reason to love Senna. *

It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Eyebrow brush

It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Eyebrow brush

OMG, this is the best brush ever for eyebrows. It was created for IT’s Build a Brow Creme Gel Stain and it’s great with that but it also shines with every gel or cream brow product I’ve tried. The bristles are staggered so they really get into your brows to deposit color. This is totally unique and totally worth every penny of the $24 price.

BENEFIT ROLLER LASH MASCARA

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Officially named Roller Lash Super Curling and Lifting Mascara, this is one of my favorites of the year. I find Benefit Cosmetics to be hit or miss but after reading the raves for this I caved and I’m glad I did. The curved wand really does help curl your lashes although I always use an eyelash curler. The combo of the eyelash curler and Roller Lash gives me eyelashes that stay curled for a good 12 hours. This was good for me for a solid three months staying easy to wear and easy to remove.

CATRICE LASH MULTIMIZER VOLUME MASCARA

Catrice Ultimate Lash Multimizer Volume Mascara

Catrice Ultimate Lash Multimizer Volume Mascara

Catrice Ultimate Lash Multimizer Volume Mascara wand

Catrice Ultimate Lash Multimizer Volume Mascara wand

At $7.99 this is 1/3 the price of the Benefit mascara and almost as good. The Multimizer is a volume and definition mascara. While it doesn’t help add curl, it holds it well. The older this gets, the better it gets. Which means a new one is in my future.

BARE MINERALS LASH DOMINATION VOLUMIZING MASCARA

Bare Minerals Lash Domination

BareMinerals Lash Domination

2016 was the year I realized I loved volume mascaras. Before that I always thought I was looking for length and definition but the mascaras I like best this year turned out to be volumizing. Who knew? Besides charming me with the polka dot packaging, Lash Domination * charmed me with the twisty turny brush and lashes that looked great. They call this a 10-in-1 mascara since it Volumizes, Lengthens, Thickens, Separates, Lifts, has All-day wear, is Mineral fortified, Resists clumps, Fights Flakes, and is Smudge-resistant. After reviewing * this, I bought another.

SURRATT BEAUTY RELEVEE LASH CURLER

Surratt Beauty Relevee Lash Curler opened

I didn’t need another eyelash curler but I wanted this Surratt Beauty one after reading all the raves. Everyone has different shaped eyes and the lash curlers that a lot of people rave about (Shu, ELF etc) pinch me. This Surratt Relevee has been a delight to use. It opens widely, does a great job fitting my eyes and creates a curl that really lasts. If I want to use the method of inching up my lashes I have to use a magnifying mirror so I can see my lashes better.

As usual with a list like this, I’m sure I left out other wonderful products that I discovered in 2015. Even if I did though I know I’m recommending the ones that really have stood out to me. Have you tried any of these? What would you say stood out the most for you this past year?  — Marcia

Favorite products to get holiday ready

For Makeup Wars today we are sharing our favorites for holiday beauty. For my post it’s the products I recently used to go out for a special dinner and that I’ll be replicating on Thanksgiving when someone else (hallelujah) is hosting a very elegant dinner. Come along and see what my special items are.

Surratt Eyelash Curler

Surratt Eyelash Curler

During Sephora’s F&F sale I treated myself to a Surratt Beauty Relevee Eyelash Curler ($30). I already own lash curlers and use one daily or my eyes disappear, but the hype on this was so strong that I needed to try the Surratt one. It has its pros and cons but for me it’s mostly a pro.

Surratt Beauty Relevee Lash Curler opened

Surratt Beauty Relevee Lash Curler closed

I feel like my lashes are curled better than ever without having any crimps in them. The curl seems to last longer too. The problem with this is that it’s black and my eyelashes are very dark so it’s sort of a game using the lash curler. I can’t see if my eyelashes are in there straight so I just wait til it feels comfortable and squeeze; move it again and squeeze. So far so good.

Wander Beauty Exquisite Eye Liquid Eyeshadow

Wander Beauty Exquisite Eye Liquid Eyeshadow Duo

As an eyeshadow base I used Wander Beauty Exquisite Eye Liquid Eyeshadow in Champagne*.  This is one of the two liquid eyeshadows sold together on QVC ($34). I love both shades and wear them when I want some gorgeous shimmer that won’t wander – ever. On my non-oily lids I don’t need an eyeshadow primer since this does the job.

The swatches are applied heavily but on my eyes it becomes a sheer wash of color. My powder eyeshadows become even more vibrant and long lasting when using these as a base but these cream shadows are great all by themselves too.

Lorac Pro Metal Palette

Lorac Pro Metal Palette

Right now I have a crush on Lorac Pro Metal Palette ($28). I bought this after seeing a review on Beauty Junkies Unite and knew it had to be mine. I love a high shine and these 8 shades do it right. Quartz is very white on me which is why the Wander Beauty base is better for my brow bone. I love Gilded‘s gold on my lid and Graphite‘s golden taupe in my crease. The palette in general though is fabulous with Rose Gold, Onyx (dark charcoal), Amber (copper), Clover (golden khaki), and Cobalt (navy). These shadows are like silk. This is limited edition so if you love these kinds of shadows be sure you check it out.

Youngblood Luminous Crme blush in Taffeta

Youngblood Luminous Creme blush in Taffeta

Youngblood Luminous Creme Blush in Taffeta is my favorite blush ever. I use up just about nothing cosmetic wise but I’m on my second pot of this. It’s a go-to blush for me that I feel is the perfect pink for my skin. I really didn’t think it could get better until Jennifer Bradley The Glow Stick ($28)* came into my life.

Jennifer Bradley The Glow Stick

Jennifer Bradley The Glow Stick

Jennifer Bradley The Glow Stick

The Jennifer Bradley Glow Stick is a light pink cream highlighter that can be used on cheeks, face and eyes. It’s got a luminous quality without a single drop of glitter or shimmer. It feels almost magical when applied. This comes in a plastic tube with a wand ball applicator that makes it easy to apply. It doesn’t migrate on my face. I’ve used it on my browbone, over a blush and on the cupid’s bow of my mouth. While it’s subtle, it gives a twinkle when you move your head certain ways or in some lights. It’s the perfect strobing product for people who want the glow without the fuss. I store mine upside down in a lipstick holder and shake it just before use.

Smashbox Brow Tech Gloss Stick

Smashbox Brow Tech Gloss Stick

Smashbox’s Brow Tech Gloss Stick ($21)* brings a new dimension to my quest for good eyebrows. I follow a blog (If Makeup Could Talk) and she always has the most amazing brow look. I never could figure out how to get my brows to look glossy like hers. I didn’t want anything sticky.

Smashbox Brow Tech Gloss Stick

Smashbox Brow Tech Gloss Stick

Smashbox Brow Tech Gloss Stick - taupe on top, brunette on bottom

Smashbox Brow Tech Gloss Stick – taupe on top, brunette on bottom

Smashbox Brow Tech Gloss Stick is the answer to my question. This wind up brow stick comes in 4 shades. I was sent both Taupe and Brunette. I can use them both but it’s Brunette that really gives me that special look. These are glossy without being over the top. They add a beautiful, non-sticky sheen to my eyebrows while filling them in well. I save these for nights out so that I can feel special when I’m trying to look my best.

Of course there’s more to it than these 6 products but this is gist of my favorite look lately. I feel it’s holiday ready and ups my everyday face to something more special. Each of these are products I can highly recommend.

Wonderful Wantable cosmetics for December

My December Wantable Cosmetic Box

My December Wantable Cosmetic Box

I am totally 100% thrilled with my Wantable subscription box for December. This month I was lucky to receive one for review, thanks to the readers who went through our link to give us points for these. December was a prime month for me and absolutely everything is getting use.

December Wantable products

December Wantable products

The biggest surprise for me this month is the Geri G Innocent Foundation ($38).I’ve never heard of the brand so I had no expectations. That means I can’t really say it goes beyond my expectations but I’ll say it anyway. I’m so happy with this foundation. I have it in the lightest shade and it’s an ideal match. According to Geri G: Non-masking and nourishing to the skin, Geri G’s exclusive water-based formula combines moisturizing benefits of Squalen Oil from oilves , green tea, white tea, with radiant pigments that conceal imperfections and illuminate the complexion. Weightless and hydrating, Innocent Foundation glides on seamlessly and provides all-day sheer to moderate coverage with a natural matte finish. For all skin types.

As someone who doesn’t feel complete without eyeliner I was thrilled to find Vincent Longo’s Cream Gel Eyeliner in Velvet Plum ($25) as one of the items Wantable chose for me. I’m surprised that the VL site describes this as a deep purple with blue pearl since I find it to be a brown with plum undertones. It’s a great color for me and one I’ll happily be wearing.

Pla eyeshadow in Shimmer Timele

Pla eyeshadow in Shimmer Timele

Pla Beauty eyeshadow in Shimmer Timele ($18) was the next product to grace my eyes. It’s a golden beige with some shimmer but not as much as the name implies. I don’t see this shade on their website but they do have a large variety of shimmer eyeshadows. If they are all this formula then they’d all be ones I’d enjoy wearing. (The shadows are also $19.50 on their website.)

Surratt Beauty Lip Lustre in Nudite ($32) goes with the theme of the box. I’ve got a very neutral look all packaged together to delight me. Nudite is one of 12 shades shown at Barney’s, the exclusive store for the line. It’s thicker than a lip gloss but thinner than a liquid lipstick, it’s sort of a cross. It has plenty of shine. I’m excited with my first Lip Lustre from Surratt and it makes me want more.

A subscription to Wantable is $36 per month and you can stop it at any time. My box was worth $113 which is incredible. The value keeps coming and the products keep getting better and better. If you still have a gift to buy then think “she’ll want Wantable” or maybe it’s time to cave and purchase a Wantable subcription for yourself. I know you won’t be sorry. — Marcia

What winning products did you find in November’s Wantable Cosmetic box?

wantable november

I was especially eager for my subscription to Wantable’s Cosmetic box to arrive this month since I’d seen hints that there would be Surratt products in the boxes. I was actually quite surprised since the brand isn’t very old and it’s exclusive to Barney’s New York. It’s amazing to me that Wantable has come this far in bringing subscribers high end brands like this.

Even though you see 5 products in the picture there are actually 4 since 2 fit together. There was also a mistake in my box, a product that was left out and another in its place. Wantable has great service so I knew that if I contacted them I’d get the correct product but I am perfectly fine with what I did receive.

Starting with Surratt, the brand created by the famous Troy Surratt.  The Beauty Brow Pencil took up two of the boxes.

This is a mechanical pencil that comes in two parts. You buy the refills separately, they come in 4 colors (mine is Brunette). This is a $40 value with the refill being $15 of that. I’m always looking to improve my brows as they’ve become quite skimpy so I’m happy to have this. I love that there’s a brush on one end.

The other Surratt is the Smokey Eye Baton ($35)

The color is Vapeur Mauve but it’s really just a very dark purple. There are two parts to this. First is the thick eyeliner part and then hidden is the eyeshadow. You have to unscrew the middle to find the shadow. The Barney’s website says it’s light reflective,  I find it to be a smoky purple with some reflection that works perfectly with the eyeliner.

I was very happy to find another Liberty Republic Spellbound Nail Lacquer in my box ($14) since these are fabulous polishes. The shade this time is called Medallion and it’s a beautiful golden pewter.

Now for the mistake. On my list it shows I should have received MARSK Mineral Powder Flawless Foundation ($52) in Nude. Instead I received another Vincent Longo Mascara Volume Plus Mascara ($25) like I did last month. Since it’s rare that I use a powder foundation it’s an okay trade for me.

The total value of my particular box is $114 for my $36 subscription. If I’d gotten the foundation it would have been $139! That’s better than the stock market! As usual I’m thrilled with my Wantable Cosmetic Subscription and the ways they personalize each box. We have many Wantable reviews (cosmetics, accessories and intimates) for your reading pleasure. I think once you see what you get, you’ll be tempted too. — Marcia

Top Ten Tuesday – it’s time for pink lipstick

Top 10 Pink Lipsticks (or is this 12)

Top 10 Pink Lipsticks (or is this 12)

This week the Top Ten Tuesday group decided to share our favorite pink lips. I went through my lipstick drawer and found a lot of pinks – I mean a LOT. I narrowed it down to the 12 lipsticks I wear the most. But then something interesting happened when I photographed them together. I found that they don’t all look pink in swatches yet when they are on my lips they look pink to me. Of course I have favorites within the favorites but that’s pretty typical.

Here’s my bounty:

12 favorite pink lipsticks from Tom Ford, Make Up For Ever, Rouge Bunny Rouge, MAC, and Surratt

12 favorite pink lipsticks from Tom Ford, Make Up For Ever, Rouge Bunny Rouge, MAC, and Surratt

Tom Ford lipsticks

Tom Ford pinks: Summer Fling, Pink Dusk, Spanish Pink, Pink Dune

Tom Ford pinks: Summer Fling, Pink Dusk, Spanish Pink, Pink Dune

Summer Fling is a limited edition sheer lipstick that is my new favorite from his collection. This is a true cool pink on me, it has blue undertones so if you don’t look good in cool don’t hunt this one done.

Pink Dusk was my previous Tom Ford favorite and has gotten the most use from me. It’s a warm pink with slight coral undertones. This lipstick has great coverage and lasts long. I love that I can play around with gloss or liner and change this one up. My photo makes it look more coral but on my lips it’s really pink, I promise.

Spanish Pink is a neutral pink that color wise is almost a combo of Summer Fling and Pink Dusk. It’s the darkest of collection and a good change for me since sometimes I like super light lipsticks. This is more “adult” than my typical.

Pink Dune is also a limited edition sheer lipstick. If I’d seen it instead of ordering it online I might have skipped it. I like light lipsticks but this is extremely light. Therefore the solution is to wear a lipliner. It’s on my favorite list though so you know I’m not unhappy with it.

MAKE UP FOR EVER

Make Up For Ever N33 and N19

Make Up For Ever N33 and N19

Rouge Artist Natural Lipstick in N33 is just about the perfect pink. This is a color I crave, one that stops me dead in my tracks in a store. It’s a very cool pink with a “diamond” finish. It’s described as Diamond Fresh Pink. The finish glistens so no gloss is needed.

Rouge Artist Natural Lipstick in N19 is a darker rosier version of N33 but with that same glistening finish. MUFE calls it Iridescent Ice Pink. N19 is cool with maybe a touch of mauve.

Make Up For Ever N19 and N33

Make Up For Ever N19 and N33

Unfortunately I don’t see either of these two lipsticks on Sephora’s site but they are both listed on Make Up For Ever’s site so hopefully they aren’t gone. If by chance they are, take a chance on one of the available shades since these creamy moisturizing lipsticks are beautiful.

MAC

MAC lipsticks in Overture, Viva Glam Gaga, A Rose Romance, Feelright

MAC lipsticks in Overture, Viva Glam Gaga, A Rose Romance, Feelright

Pro Longwear formula in Overture  is the only MAC lipstick I have in Pro Longwear so I don’t know why I didn’t buy more of this collection. It’s a matte pinky coral. It’s a little drying because of the formula but it’s one I reach for often.

Viva Glam Gaga is the first of the Gaga lipsticks. It’s the Lustre formula which is one I happen to like. It’s a true Barbie Pink when it’s on me. I love Viva Glam’s program and this is one of the shades I’m always drawn to.

A Rose Romance  is a Lustre that I’m sure is discontinued. I liked it so much I bought two of them when I was in my MAC stage. It’s a more rose version of Viva Glam Gaga on me.

Feelright Amplified is more of a berry pink. Because it’s an Amplified it’s a full bodied lipstick.

SURRATT and ROUGE BUNNY ROUGE

Surratt Fie Soie and Rouge Bunny Rouge Scrumptiously Delicious

Surratt Fie Soie and Rouge Bunny Rouge Scrumptiously Delicious

Surratt Lipslique in Fie Soie is my new favorite lipstick. On my lips it’s a sheer pink with a slight touch of warmth. If I’m wearing cool toned blush though it looks like a light pink. On Lola’s Secret Beauty Blog it looks almost peach but I think the color of your lips affects this sheer lipstick. I really love it!

Rouge Bunny Rouge in Scrumptiously Delicious is one of two lipsticks I bought from RBR and my favorite. The tone is similar to the Surratt Fie Soie but the finish is very different. It’s been described as a ‘cool lavender pink satin finish’ even though it doesn’t look that way in my swatch.

If you bump into me and I’m in the PINK I’ll be wearing one of these 12 beauties. What are your favorite pink lipsticks??– Marcia
