Get great skin with Skindinavia Post-Makeup Recovery Spray

Skindinavia Post Makeup Recovery Spray 3When I first opened the package from Skindinavia, I was all excited — I thought it was the Skindinavia Makeup Primer Spray, one of my favorite products of all time. Then I realized this was something different. The Skindinavia Post-Makeup Recovery Spray (4 oz. $26; 8 oz. $36) is a spray, but one used AFTER removing makeup. Thank goodness I looked a little more closely at the bottle because this is an all together completely different product!

The premise behind the Skindinavia Post-Makeup Recovery Spray is that makeup can clog pores and deplete skin of minerals. Of course, we typically wash off our makeup at night – if we are being responsible – but cleansing can dry out skin and actually deplete it of the good stuff that keeps skin looking plumped and fresh.Skindinavia Post Makeup Recovery Spray 2This is where the Skindinavia Post-Makeup Recovery Spray comes in. An  after cleansing spray rebalances skin’s natural pH levels. The ingredients also include zinc, which keep skin clear of blemishes. Organic willow bark is a skin soother that prevents bacteria from entering pores, which ultimately means smooth, blemish-free skin.

Skindinavia Post Makeup Recovery SpraySince I have been using this, I haven’t experienced any break outs. I don’t find it to be much help as a makeup refresher during the day, but it is a very nice boost when I’m not wearing any cosmetics. Better skin means better makeup, so I think this is a very interesting product that could be a welcome addition to your skin care arsenal.  – Lisa

Favorite setting products – powders and sprays

Do you have products that help you finish your makeup each day? That’s what Top Ten Tuesday is about this week. There are some great products available for this job and I’ve picked the favorites that I’ve used. When I’m done I hope you’ll share some of yours with me.

I have to start with IT COSMETICS since I talk about the brand all the time. The product that I’ve used up twice is IT COSMETICS BYE BYE PORES aka Bye Bye Pores Silk HD Anti-Aging Micro-Powder. Once I discovered this powder I stopped using the drawer full I had from Laura Mercier, Kevyn Aucoin, and more. I still use those occasionally but they aren’t in my top ten! Silky soft and it does blur my pores just like it says it will.

Once they came out with Bye Bye Pores Airbrush Silk Pressed Anti-Aging Finishing Powder I had to buy that too.  This pressed powder is great for travel and on the go.

Purely Cosmetics Diamond Perfect Finish Powder is fabulous. I love this powder and am currently on my second one. Powder takes forever and a day for me to finish so the fact that I’ve gone through one and a half jars of this speaks for itself. Diamond Finish sets my makeup, blurs my pores, and gives me a beautiful finish that isn’t matte.

One more loose powder in this group: Pixi Beauty Quik Fix Powder in Translucid wins for the best packaging as well as being a great powder. This is very lightweight and invisible on my skin. It contains great ingredients like aloe vera and cucumber extract to smooth along with grape extract which acts as an antioxidant.

Mally Evercolor Poreless Face Defender is really a cheat since it’s not a powder or a spray but it’s a staple in my cosmetic wardrobe. It has a very unusual texture and gives a matte finish. It’s wonderful for blurring fine lines and pores. There’s no dryness like powder can give.

Now on to the sprays. Skindinavia has two sprays that I have to recommend: Makeup Primer Spray and the Makeup Finishing Spray are both wonderful. Other brands like Urban Decay sell these but they are made by Skindinavia. The Primer Spray is just like it sounds. Spray this one after your skincare is on and it helps deliver a smoother finish for your foundation. The Finishing Spray is to be applied after all your makeup is on and it helps keep your makeup in place for the day. It’s especially great for being outdoors. They even make this in Oil Control and a Bridal version.

A much less expensive version is  Hard Candy Fast & Fabulous Makeup Setting Spray at Walmart. This is only $6.30 compared to the $30ish prices of Skindinavia. It’s not bride proof but it’s a good way to see if a spray is for you.

When I was in the midst of hot flashes I relied on Youngblood Minerals in the Mist. I was at IMATS and I looked like someone had dropped a bucket of water on me. I was shopping at Youngblood and they recommended it in Refresh for me and it saved the trip. I carried it around with me to refresh my skin. I’ve since used it up but if I ever go through that misery again, I’d repurchase.

A few other bloggers have joined this week’s challenge. I’m interested in learning more. Are you? — Marcia

Top 10 beauty products to survive the heat

Beat the heat with waterproof and water resistant products

Beat the heat with waterproof and water resistant products

Welcome to the newest edition of Top Ten Tuesday. Considering we are just a few days from the official first day of summer it’s time to find out what the beauty bloggers use to beat the heat. We all might approach this a little differently from each other but our blogs are trying to get you through summer in the most beauteous way.

My 10 are ones I rely on to get me through heat, humidity and hot flashes. The colors are pretty much interchangeable, it’s the type of product that counts today.

1.  IT COSMETICS CC+ CREAM WITH SPF (Your Skin But Better CC+) is something I talk about endlessly. Of all my CC Creams this is number uno. It’s not waterproof but when I start streaming it doesn’t end up streaky on my face. I’m on my third tube of this and I’m sure I’ll end up with a fourth.

2.  SKINDINAVIA MAKEUP PRIMER SPRAY * can be used as a primer before applying foundation or the way I usually use it which is to set my makeup (including eyes) after I’m done. My blog partner Lisa just reviewed this and she uses it as a preprimer, I find it also sets my makeup helping it last longer. Wonderful product.

3.  IT COSMETICS WATERPROOF GEL EYELINER PENCILS *are really waterproof. If you are looking for a great line for summer IT Cosmetics is your BFF. There are 10 shades of these Waterproof Gel Eyeliner Pencils and you can’t go wrong with them. Many eyeliners last on my top lash line but only a few last on my bottom lash line in the summer and IT is one of them.

4.  MAKE UP FOR EVER AQUA EYES PENCILS *are the other eyeliners that you want for summer or anytime actually. Make Up For Ever is a fabulous line if you are in the heat. They make many eye and lip products that are perfect for summer which is why many of their products use the word AQUA in their name. This shade is 52L which was an LE shade but others like 7L and 12L will give you this turquoise pop.

5.  RIMMEL SCANDALEYES EYESHADOW CRAYON is not touted to be waterproof but it lasts and lasts through anything I put it through. I have this in half a dozen shades and Bulletproof Beige (which looks peachy on me) gets the most use. They are creamier than a lot of brands of eye crayons and they are only around $7.

IT Cosmetics Build A Brow and Liner Love plus the eyebrow brush

6.  IT COSMETICS BUILD-A-BROW is truly waterproof. This baby lasts and lasts. My new craze is filling in my eyebrows and I choose between Build A Brow or Senna. But when push comes to shove, I use IT Cosmetics. This shade is Dark Brown but I recently ordered Natural Taupe too for when I don’t need quite as dramatic eyebrows.

–  IT COSMETICS EYEBROW BRUSH is probably the best brush I’ve ever tried. I have a few other great brushes but the IT brush is perfect for a cream eyebrow product. The brush is unique since it has grooves in it that pick up and apply the cream by itself. You almost aren’t needed. By buying this combination from QVC you pay so much less than if you buy them separately. Even though I have the brush, I bought the combo again with the new shade. That’s how great this brush is. (I know this is OT since it’s not waterproof but I get a little carried away!)

7.  IT COSMETICS LINER LOVE is a waterproof gel eyeliner. I prefer a gel eyeliner to a pencil though I’ll use all kinds. The first one I bought was Espresso and when I realized that QVC had a duo with an eyeliner brush I bought it in Silk Taupe seen here.

Rimmel Provocateur, IT Cosmetics, tarte lipsurgence

8. RIMMEL PROVOCALIPS 16 HOUR KISSPROOF LIP COLOR* in Play with Fire. This is NOT my shade. I don’t do red but I do appreciate this lip color. It comes in 10 shades with one side being the long wear lipstick and the other end the clear gloss. Give the liquid lipstick time to set before applying the gloss or it will be a gloppy mess. I wore this only once and boy did it last. I want to pick it up in Dare to Pink or Pucker Up for my more neutral lip look.

9.  IT COSMETICS YOUR LIPS BUT BETTER WATERPROOF LIP LINER STAIN * – there’s that word again “waterproof”! Like I said before IT Cosmetics is your summer BFF when it comes to waterproof. These lipliners are currently available in 7 shades. My favorite is Buff Nude since it blends in with everything. These are great all over your lips with a touch of gloss too.

10.  TARTE LIPSURGENCE * is a product you’ve seen me mention dozens of times. tarte makes several formulas and lots of shades, it doesn’t matter which you pick since all are terrific. While they aren’t called waterproof they last well on me and they don’t seem to melt when they are in my purse.

What do you use to stay beautiful and live through the summer heat? Curious minds want to know. — Marcia

Straight to the top of my favorites list: Skindinavia The Makeup Primer Spray

Hello, my name is Lisa and I am addicted to primers.  I am not ashamed to admit this addiction. Without primer…well, actually, without a GOOD primer…my makeup lasts for maybe three hours tops.  I just have that kind of skin.  With a good facial primer my foundation and blush can survive for 8 hours of fade-free wear.

Skindinavia The Makeup Primer Spray

Skindinavia The Makeup Primer Spray

Marcia teases me all the time for having a bazillion primers.  Even with the obscene amount of primers I have on hand, I am always on the lookout for something even better.  But I have to give the credit for my recent discovery to my partner.  She insisted that I be the one to test Skindinavia The Makeup Primer Spray (4 oz. bottle $35) because it was different from the other bazillion primers I have, and she heard this one was pretty fantastic.

Another confession…I wasn’t particularly interested in trying this primer.  I put it off for a long time.  I am not sure why…I guess I just didn’t think that a wet, spray on primer was going to work, especially since my favorite primers tend to be silicone-based.  Luckily, sometimes my partner knows me even better than I know myself.

Skindinavia The Makeup Primer Spray

Skindinavia The Makeup Primer Spray

Skindinavia The Makeup Primer Spray is a light liquid that feels like a very fine mist.  It needs to be shaken well before spraying, and once on it dries in seconds.  Unlike silicone primers, this doesn’t make my skin ultra crazy smooth.  However,  it does make it smoother, which helps my makeup apply evenly.  What is the most impressive, though, is how it keeps my makeup from fading all day long.  I don’t mean 8 hours…I mean 12, even 15 hours.  I have never experienced anything like it!!

The Makeup Primer Spray is absolutely one of the best primers I have ever used.  I can’t even fully articulate how impressed I am with it.  While I love my other bazillion primers, I do believe this is my most favorite of them all.

Whether you never use a makeup primer yet or are a primer addict like me, you need this primer.  It just plain rocks.  – Lisa

Top Ten Favorites of 2014

I don’t know how all of these beauty bloggers pick just 10 items after a year of trying new ones almost daily. When Top Ten Tuesday chose this as today’s topic I really had to narrow down my choices. I started with my vanity to see what items live there because I use them constantly. Next I had to figure out which were new to me in 2014. Luckily I reviewed 3 favorites at the end of December: foundation, blush and lipstick. But there are still more from each of those categories too. Here’s my very narrowed down list. — Marcia

1421096853_a-girls-gotta-spa-300x268A GIRL’S GOTTA SPA ENERGIZING CITRUS BODY LOTION – this was the year of citrus for me. I have become enamored with using body lotions in any of the citrus fragrances. I love the grapefruit scent of A Girl’s Gotta Spa (on sale at Amazon for $26) as well as be Delectable’s Lemon & Cream Body Lotion and Lavanila Lemon body lotion. All three were new to me for 2014 and I love them. You just can’t know what a huge change this is for me.
1421096668_acacia-protein-bb-creamECRU NEW YORK ACACIA BB CREAM – I have a counterful of hair products since I’m always testing new ones. But the one styling product I can count on all the time has been this ECRU New York BB Cream.
1421096544_microblur_oval_tube_30mlKIEHL’S MICRO-BLUR SKIN PERFECTOR should have been written about months ago. I mentioned it earlier and now it’s obtained holy grail status. It’s the one product that I reach for to blur my pesky pores. I can’t imagine being without this.
1421096483_primer050114SKINDINAVIA MAKEUP PRIMER SPRAY is another one I should have written about months ago. I used it daily in the summer and was amazed at how much longer my face makeup lasted. I spray it after skincare and before makeup and let it set. It doesn’t add another layer to my skin but it helps foundation adhere. It’s wonderful.
1421096341_eye-mazing-liquid-liner-pen-image-2YOUNGBLOOD EYE-MAZING LIQUID LINER PEN in MARRON – I’ve searched high and low for the best brown liquid eyeliner and I found the perfect one in this Youngblood liner. I can’t tell you how many brown liners I’ve thrown away yet I’ve ordered this twice since my review. All the other colors are great and I use those too but it’s the Marron that is my bestie.
1421096196_s1533439-main-hero-300TOO FACED BETTER THAN SEX MASCARA has changed my eyelashes for the better. I have a lot of mascaras I like but only a few I love and Too Faced BTS is a love. I rarely get compliments on how my lashes look since they are skimpy but people notice when I’m wearing this one.
1421096099_s1665645-main-hero-300VISEART EYESHADOW PALETTE in SULTRY MUSE – I am amazed at the quality of this Viseart palette. This was a gift to me from Lisa and I honestly thought it was a little dull. I put it aside and came across it about 2 months ago. What a mistake I made prejudging this. The colors are beautiful once on, much more unique than they first appear. The pigmentation is great and the shadows last and last. In spite of the $80 price I can’t wait to buy this in Paris Nude once it’s back in stock at Sephora.
1421096046_s1578012-main-hero-300TOO FACED CHOCOLATE BAR EYE PALETTE is a surprise for me. I didn’t buy it at first because I mostly heard about it smelling like chocolate. Even though I adore chocolate I didn’t want to smell like it. I’m so glad I gave into the raves because I get an incredible amount of wear out of this palette. The colors are vibrant and versatile. Whenever I need a shade to go with my nude shadows I know I can count on this palette to fill in that need.
1420311977_s1608413-main-hero-300PERRICONE MD NO BLUSH BLUSH seems like an oxymoron if there ever was one. I debated about using this as my Makeup Wars favorite blush but I knew that Top Ten lists were coming up so here it is. I use this allllll the time. It’s described as a warm rosy pink which is a perfect description. I don’t apply it when I’m wearing very cool tones but I apply it for almost everything else. It doesn’t last all day on me but it’s easy to touch up with either a powder blush or more of this stain.
1406489060_coolway-brush-300x215KNOTTY GIRL BRUSH by Coolway is the one item on this list that I use every single day. Whether my hair is wet or dry, this brush comes through. I never would have considered a brush on my wet hair before this and now I can’t imagine life without it.
It was hard to come up with only 10 since there are dozens of products that I loved in 2014 but these get the most use and will be bought again. I can’t wait to see how my fellow Top Ten bloggers are going to tempt us all. — Marcia
