Ulta is one of my happy places. It’s one of my favorite places to shop and probably the store I go to most often. Ulta has come a long way since it began and now carries just about every brand I crave. It’s the closest store to my home and the parking is great so I make sure that I go there whenever the mood strikes. For the month of November they are celebrating Ageless Beauty, which I consider to be perfect for me. Almost every product on their Ageless Beauty section on Ulta.com has a great gift with purchase along with it which, of course, makes it more enticing. Following are 9 items I either have from Ageless Beauty or want. Why not find out about these and see which ones would take you to a happy place. — Marcia
Can you believe this woman is 60 years old? I don’t even care if she’s had work done, her skin is absolutely stunning. And I want to be just like her. I don’t plan on dying my hair but I would if it made me have this glowing complexion.
Instead I’ll have to settle for using some of the Christie Brinkley Authentic Skincare and hope for the best. I’m starting with CLOSE UP which was sent for this article. This is a product I want to savor. It’s my “dress up” skincare product. I have used it for everyday use but now I’m using it more for out to lunch with friends, out for dinner with other friends, and party time.
CLOSE UP INSTANT WRINKLE REDUCER AND TREATMENT is the official name. The name tells you exactly what to expect from the product. It helps with all the small wrinkles and lines that we want to disappear even temporarily.
When I applied Close Up I rubbed it on in a circular movement and let it sit. I usually did this just prior to my eyeshadow application which is always my first step in makeup. I gave it time to dry thoroughly and I did press it in to set it. After my eyes were done I’d continue with the rest of my skincare and face makeup.
Here is what CLOSE UP tells us to expect:
- Immediate sensation of tighter and smoother-looking skin.
- Potent formula maximizes anti-wrinkle effects.
- Smooth under-eye bags and puffiness.
- Tightens skin on contact and takes years off appearance.
- Lasts for hours and can be reapplied throughout the day.
- Will wash off easily with water and no make-up remover required.
- Breakthrough discovery that tightens skin on contact to take years off appearance.
Here’s my response:
I don’t think it took years off my appearance but it did tighten somewhat and give me smoother looking skin where I applied it. I concentrated the treatment on the areas I need help: my crow’s feet, under my eyes, the nasolabial lines and those pesky marionette lines. I used it in conjunction with other skincare and even with similar products.
CLOSE UP provided me with temporary tightening. Enough though to make me feel I looked my best. It dries clear so it’s easy to touch up if you think you need to during your time out.
Two of the ingredients stand out – Neodermyl™ and LIFTONIN®-XPRESS.
Neodermyl is an energy source that helps recharge the skin, it has copper in it which helps with collagen production. Liftonin -XPress is the ingredient that gives the instant tightening effect. If you have deeper wrinkles this is especially good to help smooth those out especially on the eye area and forehead.
I know I’m never going to look as young as Christie but why not give it everything I can? This is a cruelty free, vegan line according to the website.
The only complaint I think you’d have with this is the price. On the CB website it’s priced at $79.95 but at Kohl’s it’s priced at $69. You can’t use Kohl’s coupons on this prestige line but you can earn and redeem Kohl’s cash so that’s a way to make this more affordable. I’ll have to pay more attention to my Kohl’s emails from now on. I want to look softer under and around my eyes especially.
Have you tried anything from Christie Brinkley Authentic Skincare? Would you be willing to? I’m ready to try more, just don’t expect me to go blonde. — Marcia

Recently I was applying Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation and I realized that my skin is looking better than ever. When I was younger I would wear a foundation with heavy coverage or at least medium coverage. This UD foundation though is a very light liquid that doesn’t provide a lot of concealing yet my skin looked great. Ta da! It’s the skincare I’m using that’s made such a big difference. I swear that this is a revelation to me.
I use a lot of skincare brands but the one brand that’s always getting use is Algenist. It’s the brand I can always count on. The product I’ve been using regularly from them, the one that I think has made this latest transformation is Algenist Retinol Firming & Lifting Serum. It’s been a staple for me for about 4 months now (sent for review).
My skin is very sensitive to Retinol but the way that Algenist uses their patented Alguronic Acid combined with the Retinol doesn’t bother me at all. My skin drinks it up. I’ve got a small arsenal of Algenist products that I rely on. This is considered a dual action serum since the Alguronic Acid boosts the Retinol to work more efficiently. With other retinol products there was no way I could use them daily but the Algenist line is gentle enough for me twice a day if I want.
The goal of the product is to tighten skin, firm and tone skin, boost skin’s radiance, and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. And has it done that for me? Absolutely. I’m thrilled when I look in the mirror these days since the only fine lines I see are near my eyes and this isn’t recommended for eye use. According to Algenist this serum works to boost collagen to plump up those lines. I’ll take it!
Even though this is $98 for a 1 oz pump I need so little that I’m sure it will last me for most of the year. Paying that amount to have skin I’m proud of is worth that extra bit of money.Sign up for notices from their website to learn about special deals. Just as I was typing this I placed an order for two products because they had a 30% off with free shipping code. Algenist seems to take care of all my skincare needs with Algenist Retinol Firming & Lifting Serum moving to the top of the list. What have you tried from Algenist? If nothing, what are you waiting for? — Marcia

Anti-aging, antioxidants, retinol and SPF all affect the health of your skin. In turn, this is extremely vital to the way you look and feel. It only makes sense to protect and defend your skin’s health. Summer has begun and as much as some love the sun remember it is out to get you! Take a moment to remember the sun spots and freckles that surface once that tan is gone in the fall. It’s time to bust out the credit card and start looking at quality skin care products.
The product Esotique, by Chamonix contains antioxidant components which keep your skin looking youthful. Grape seed extract, just one of the beneficial ingredients, is an antioxidant component believed to protect cells from damage, especially sun damage which is an inevitable part of unprotected sun exposure, especially in those steamy summer months. The product also includes UVA and UVB protection, with SPF 15 to assist you in defending your skin from wrinkles and skin cancer caused from the sun.
The ever so popular ingredient, retinol, is found in Esotique and as you skin care pros know, is effective in diminishing signs of wrinkles. What is not to love?! Many products contain retinol, so what is so special about Esotique? If you haven’t heard of Matrixyl or you recognize the word but aren’t too sure what it is, it’s a scientifically proven anti-aging ingredient. Matrixyl is known for producing collagen, no, not just that thing they inject into you, but the real deal you make yourself. Skip those needles, use a cream and keep you and your skin looking youthful the easy way.
As summer officially begins and you anticipate a season of fun in the sun, keep your skin’s health in mind. If you are looking for an all-inclusive antioxidant and anti-wrinkle cream, think about a product like Esotique. Esotique contains ingredients for anti-aging that are not all chemical, but natural as well. Can’t forget that antioxidant grape seed extract! It is always encouraged to do your research before buying; hey, it is your money after all. First thing is first, remember to stay protected in the sun and buy a good product. It is worth the money and your skin will thank you.

“I want nothing for Christmas” said me NEVER! Of course I want a gift. I may not get anything beauty but I can dream can’t I?? The Makeup Wars bloggers have decided to put together our wishlists of what we’d like to see under our menorah or Christmas tree this year. My wishlist is 100% beauty related which comes as no surprise at all. The good news is that these are all pretty easy to get, the bad news is that I bought some of it while waiting to publish.
Let’s start with what I bought! After our Favorite Metallic Makeup Wars I was terribly tempted by the Laura Mercier Art Deco shadows that so many of the bloggers put on their list. They were sold out at Sephora which made it even more important for me to buy them. So Nordstrom.com and my reward certificates came in handy and now I own some of these. While they aren’t on my wishlist since they are on a UPS truck coming to me, they should be on yours!
What I also bought was one (I promise only one) of the new Burberry Complete Eyeshadow Palettes. I just kept looking at this picture and had to wipe the drool off my face several times. I bought Smokey Grey No. 1 because I have been buying brown shadows galore in 2012. On my wishlist though are more of these. Luckily these are permanent ($59 each). Take a gander:
- Smokey Grey No. 01 Grays
- Mocha No. 02 Warm neutrals
- Pale Nude No. 03 Cool neutrals
- Dark Spice No. 05 Smoky neutrals
- Plum Pink No. 06 Plums
- Pink Taupe No. 07 Pink neutrals
Next on my wishlist is more Too Faced, in particular the Too Faced Bon Bons Set. There’s something so girly and appealing about this $42 box set. Their description makes it even more appealing to me: “As enticing as a box of scrumptious sweets, Shadow Bon Bons features a delicious range of shadows from soft vanillas to rich coffee, an ultra-black LashGASM mascara, a built-in mirror, and a shimmering gold Candlelight shadow primer, making it easy to create bountiful looks. Go from sweet and sassy to subtle to dramatic with this one versatile set.”
Prime Beauty introduced me to the Eye Candy Full Face Collection from Lorac on her blog and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. Doesn’t this sound like fun for $59??
– 4 x 0.68 oz Eye Shadow Palette in Ooh La La Vanilla (Nude Eye Shadow Palette), Caramel Love Affair (Golden Eye Shadow Palette), Tantilizing Cocoa (Bronze Eye Shadow Palette), Blackberry Truffle Seduction (Smoky Eye Shadow Palette)
– 0.17 oz Cream Eye Liner Palette in Mesmerizing Dark Chocolate
– 0.17 oz Cheek & Lip Tint Palette in Indulge in Berry Kisses
Let’s move away from the eyes (which is difficult for me). When Lola’s Secret Beauty Blog reviewed the Armani Nude Lip Set ($49) I suddenly had a desire for it. The set includes Rouge d’Armani #103 and Gloss d’Armani #103. I love my light shades of lipstick and even though I probably have dozens of similar shades there’s just something I like about this.
I have the Chantecaille Rose Petals Highlighter ($74) on my wishlist because it’s just so pretty. I’d probably never use it, I’d just look at it. Read this and weep: “A kaleidoscope of colorful powders blend together beautifully to impart a sheer, flattering glow on all skin tones. Unique light-perfecting powders provide a veil of subtle radiance, while flexible polymers ensure long-lasting, comfortable wear. Innovative technology allows the soft, iridescent pigments to be evenly sprinkled throughout the entire powder.”
On the practical side I’d love the Le Metier de Beaute CHEM60 Pro-Peel & GLOW10ai Mask Set ($265). After seeing it work in person I’d love to have that glowy skin.
And one more for the road – I am a Swarovski crystal nut. I love those crystals so when I saw this Tweezerman Swarovski Crystal Mirror ($150) I fell in lust. “Add some glam to your beauty routine while isolating even the finest hair for precise, easy tweezing. The optically correct 1X/10X magnifying mirror is clear from edge-to-edge with no distortion. This gorgeously decorated two-sided vanity mirror will be a beautiful addition to any household. *Made with Swarovski® Elements”
Thanks for reading my very long wishlist. My address is available upon request (LOL). Let me know if any of these would be on your wishlist too. Curious minds want to know. Now I’m going to read the rest of the Makeup Wars Holiday Wishlists and probably add many more items to mine just like I did after the metallics. — Marcia

Wouldn’t you love to have a spa experience? Wouldn’t you love to have the TIME to have a spa experience? For most of us finding the time to do so is a problem even if the inclination is there. Beauty Info Zone got to experience what felt like a spa day when we went to Neiman Marcus to learn about Le Metier de Beaute’s new CHEM60 Pro-Peel & GLOW10ai Mask Set. Now it’s time to show you what you can do at home to have your very own spa time.
CHEM60 Pro-Peel & GLOW10ai Mask Set is the newest addition to Le Metier de Beaute’s amazing skincare line. It’s a fabulous addition to your skin routine whether you use the LMdB products or not. The CHEM60 Pro-Peel & GLOW10ai Mask Set is something that both of us are excited about.
Here’s the way our day went. Our model is Lisa and our photographer and writer is Marcia (aka the Beauty Info Zone ladies!!). We worked with the amazing Venus at Neiman Marcus in Troy, Michigan (248-643-3300 X2104 or X2106).
1) First Lisa’s face was cleansed with the Daily Renew Cleanser. This cleanser is also a gentle exfoliator containing synthetic spheres that are perfectly round so they won’t tear your skin at all. We found that the cleanser had a nice light orange fragrance. It contains Vitamin C and is made of organic materials. It can be used daily since it’s so gentle.
2) Lisa’s face was toned using using the Peau Vierge Daily Refresh Tonic. This toner is an anti-bacterial product that contains peppermint and rosemary. There’s no alcohol to it. You want to tone to restore the PH balance of your skin. Active ingredients:
– Hemolymph extract: Absorbs oxygen from the environment and delivers it to the skin.
– Peppermint, cinnamon, thyme and geranium oils: Mildly stimulate with a gentle warming effect.
– Rosemary: To gently cleanse the skin.
– Cypress oil: To balance with soothing properties.
– Anise oil: Provides cleansing and warming effects.
– Vitamins A, B and E: To condition and protect.
3) Now onto the good part, the CHEM60 Pro-Peel. This is a brush on peel with an on/off switch. When you are ready to use it you squeeze until the gel comes out through a hole in the brush. Brush it across your forehead, nose, cheeks, chin keeping away from your hairline and ocular area. After using turn the dial to off so that you don’t lose any of the peel. The texture of this is a gel that slowly warms up as it’s on. You leave it on for 60 seconds or up to 5 minutes. Lisa had it on for about 3 minutes, maybe a little longer. The CHEM60 Pro-Peel contains a proprietary blend of Salicylic and Glycolic acids. It penetrates the skin’s surface and helps rid you of dead skin cells. It also helps with diminishing fine lines and increases the hydration of your skin.
This was warm but it never got hot, not even leaving it on for longer than the 60 seconds you’d expect to do the first time you used it. There’s no sting to it at all.
To remove this use a wash cloth and tepid water. At first your skin feels sort of ticklish since you’ve opened up the pores with the Pro-Peel.
4) Now your skin is receptive to the GLOW10ai Mask. The mask is extremely hydrating and fun to use. It contains moisturizers to renew the appearance of damaged, dull looking skin. It includes antioxidants, vitamins and hydrators to help renew and rebuild your skin’s appearance.
The mask is applied with the big “spatula” as you can see in the set’s photograph. You apply it in the same areas as you did with the peel. When you apply it you’ll see that it’s white but as you leave it on it turns blue. Not a bright blue but a light blue that tells you that it’s ready to remove.
The consistency of this is very wet and runny but it doesn’t drip down your face. You want to apply a thick layer of the Glow10ai Mask but you don’t have to worry about it being even. It starts setting and your face now feels cool. Now you’ve got about 10 – 15 minutes to go do what you want since you need it to dry. You can even still talk since it doesn’t pull your face and never cracks.
Now comes the fun part – you peel it off. Sort of like when you were a kid and you put Elmer’s Glue or rubber cement on your hand and peeled. It comes off in pretty big pieces. Don’t wash this off, instead peel it off.
After removal Lisa’s skin was super soft to the touch (I know because I was touching it) and was glowing. It was like she had come in from a brisk walk outside. It even made her skintone look more even.
5) Venus finished with the other products in Le Metier de Beaute’s skincare line – she toned again, then used the Peau Vierge Revive Eye Concentrate around her entire eye area. Next she applied the Peau Vierge Revitalizing Anti-Aging Day Cream to her entire face. This has 0.05% retinol in it and contains an SPF 15. Le Metier’s Peau Vierge line of skincare has a patented delivery system and contains some powerful ingredients.
Lisa’s skin was just glowing. She easily could have walked out of the store (with her gorgeous Novalash eyelashes) and been ready to shop. Her skin was soft and vibrant without being red or uncomfortable. (It’s recommended that you use this set from 1 to 3 nights a week). To complete the experience Venus did the most beautiful makeup application on Lisa which she’ll soon be sharing.
Le Metier de Beaute is currently tweaking the packaging of the CHEM60 Pro-Peel & GLOW10ai Mask Set but it will soon be available. The best part is that Venus is offering this $265 set as a “gift with purchase”. Yes a gwp worth $265! To get it you do have to spend some money though because it’s with a purchase of the Peau Vierge Revitalizing Anti-Aging Day Cream and Peau Vierge Rejuvenating Anti-Aging Night Cream. If you’ve ever considered Le Metier de Beaute’s skincare regimen this is the perfect time to do it. When else will you be offered a gift like this?? Call Venus at 248-643-3300 X2104 or X2106 and tell her that Marcia and Lisa told you about this incredible offer. A spa experience at home and you can use it over and over again! — Marcia
*our day at the “spa” was a complimentary service and fun!!
There are two phrases that are synonmous with Le Metier de Beaute for me: kaleidoscope and Peau Vierge. Le Metier de Beaute has built their amazing reputation on these two products and they continue to grow based on what they’ve so wonderfully created. I’ve often written about my beloved eyeshadow kaleidoscopes but today my focus is on Peau Vierge. This tinted moisturizer is so unique that the ingredients in it are what became the basis for their new skincare line.
Peau Vierge officially is called Peau Vierge Tinted Anti -Aging Complexe. Even though it’s considered a tinted moisturizer it’s much more than that. It’s a foundation, a skincare treatment and your sun protection. At the same time it gives you a luminous glow.
Foundation: Peau Vierge is available in three shades, up from the two it originally came in. I bought Peau Vierge when I had my first makeup application with Le Metier de Beaute. The shade, which is now number 2, was darker than I needed so I’d mix it with my lighter Le Metier de Beaute foundation. Now though with the new lighter shade # 1 I can get the full benefits of the product. While this is considered a sheer wash of color I find it gives me good coverage, especially when I use concealer where necessary.
Anti-aging treatment: this is what makes Peau Vierge stand out from the crowd. Peau Vierge contains retinol, one ingredient that has been proven to deliver into the deeper layers of skin where it’s really needed. The technology Le Metier de Beaute uses is their exclusive Syntoc Actif®. It’s been clinically proven to be 20X more effective in delivering anti -aging ingredients to help preserve skin’s youth. Within 7 days you will notice fine lines reduced, hyper- pigmentation and discoloration fading, pores looking minimized and the texture of your skin looking smoother and more radiant.
Those are a lot of promises that Le Metier has made. I’ve found that when I regularly use Peau Vierge I do notice the differences. If I need more coverage than this gives me I either mix it with my foundation or layer it under one.
If you’ve ever considered buying Peau Vierge this is the time. This Saturday, Dec 3rd Nordstrom in Troy, Michigan has their Beauty Trend Show. For Beauty Info Zone readers they are giving not one but two great gift with purchases with the purchase of Peau Vierge. If you just went to the counter you’d receive the adorable lip gloss palette with 3 shades with your purchase. As a bonus though they’ve arranged for you to also receive the Marchessa palette that was sold for $68. Call (or go to Troy Nordstrom) and ask for Danielle at 248-816-5100 at extension 1064. Shipping is free at Nordstrom so if you purchase Peau Vierge you’ll end up with that and two great GWPs. It’s always quite busy on Trend Show day but I’ve spoken with Danielle and she knows that there will be Beauty Info Zone readers calling in.
The Marchesa La Soleil palette contains a bronzer, concealer, gloss in Le Caramel, creme blush exclusive to this palette called Le Rougeur and eyeshadow shade exclusive to the palette called Le Fauve. (Beauty Look Book has an excellent photo of this palette HERE).
I’ve done all that I can to tempt you. I receive no compensation or the gifts for your purchase. I just know what I love and Le Metier de Beaute along with Peau Vierge and gifts with purchase grab my heart! — Marcia
