Honey, yogurt, and meadowfoam seed oil transform hair with #SheaMoisture

I am always fascinated with great hair products because they truly make a difference. You know what I mean – mediocre hair products weigh hair down or leave it lackluster. What a drag. But fabulous ones? Hair is soft, silky, floaty…and a good hair day is always just a good day in general!! I was excited to try my new SheaMoisture hair products mostly because I’ve had good luck with honey and yogurt products before and meadowfoam seed oil is fantastic if used sparingly on fine hair. I wasn’t disappointed – these very affordable products do an amazing job and do indeed give me a great hair day.

SheaMoisture Manuka Honey and Yogurt Shampoo

SheaMoisture Manuka Honey and Yogurt Hydrate + Repair Conditioner

The Manuka Honey and Yogurt Shampoo ($10.49) is a wonderfully affordable sulfate-free shampoo that is gentle and has terrific ingredients. This is perfect for dry hair thanks to the certified organic Shea Butter, Manuka honey and yogurt. It leaves hair very soft and smooth. I pair it with the Manuka Honey and Yogurt Conditioner ($10.49), a big tube of goodness that is also nicely affordable. This is a rinse-out conditioner with more of the same moisturizing ingredients. My hair looks super shiny and feels great with this delightful combo.

SheaMoisture Manuka Honey and Yogurt Hydrate and Repair Split End Balm

SheaMoisture Manuka Honey and Yogurt Hydrate and Repair Split End Balm

The Manuka Honey and Yogurt Hydrate and Repair Split End Balm ($9.99) is a semi-solid balm that seals the hair cuticle, instantly banishing any fly-aways and split ends. It really makes hair look freshly cut. Hair looks super shiny and crisp. It’s a terrific styling product to have on hand, and a jar lasts forever because a tiny amount goes a very long way.

SheaMoisture Sugarcane Extract and Meadowfoam Seed Silicone Free Miracle Styler Leave-In Treatment

My favorite product is the Sugarcane Extract and Meadowfoam Seed Silicone Free Miracle Styler Leave-In Treatment ($16.69). I remember having a hair styling product long ago from Make Me Smooth that featured Meadowfoam Seed Oil and I just loved it! It’s great stuff used sparingly and this product is similar. It’s a blend of Sugarcane, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Marshmallow Root and botanicals.  ogether, it makes a concoction for hair that provides awesome hold and shine, and it keeps hair totally tangle-free. It mimics what silicones do, but it doesn’t have that nasty buildup. Just add a small amount to damp hair and the brush slides right through. I swear it makes my hair dry faster too. It’s great for color treated hair and it’s made without any  mineral oil, parabens, phthalates, propylene glycol, or sulfates. Plus it’s not tested on animals.

SheaMoisture is an excellent natural line that is very affordable and I am totally loving the hair care products. You can find this line online at sheamoisture.com as well as at Ulta stores.  – Lisa

Makeup Wars – favorite drugstore foundations and concealers

Woman applying concealerWelcome back to Makeup Wars and our budget friendly theme of the week – drugstore favorites for foundation and concealer. My picks are rather limited but they are products I use all the time so they are trusted and true for me. I’ll be interested in what my fellow bloggers pick since I’m always in the market for something new.

My two favorite foundations for this theme are by Rimmel and SheaMoisture while my favorite concealers are from Maybelline. The prices are reasonable but more important I love the way they wear.

RIMMEL LASTING FINISH 25 HR SKIN PERFECTING FOUNDATION

I bought Rimmel Lasting Finish on the recommendation of a friend from a Facebook beauty board. She just kept saying how perfect her skin looked with it and it was hard to resist. The hardest part of buying drugstore foundation is color matching. Since I’m very pale I start with the lightest shade. My choice was Pale Ivory 091 which is good match though a tad darker than I prefer.

I sometimes mix in a drop of Manic Panic Dreamtone Flawless Foundation Color Corrector in white with this and other foundations. This $9.24 product has saved me so many times and makes foundations too dark usable again.manic panicDepending on what you read Rimmel Lasting Finish is either a medium or full coverage. I’d say it’s in between. It’s very lightweight to apply and doesn’t feel heavy or look cakey. There is a fragrance to it that takes about 10 minutes before I stop noticing it but that doesn’t stop me.

SHEAMOISTURE WEIGHTLESS SHEA SERUM FOUNDATION

Lisa and I reviewed 3 shades of the SheaMoisture Serum Foundation in one of our side by side reviews. Above are Nude and Latte from Lisa and below is Porcelain that I use.

By coincidence I’m wearing this foundation as I type. I find this to be such an easy to wear foundation. It lays lightly on my skin yet the coverage is excellent. No matter what tool I chose to blend with, it always works well. In my original review of this I compared this $14.99 foundation to my $65 bottle of Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation SPF40 and the only difference is the $40 saved and the fact that there’s no SPF in SheaMoisture.

While the SheaMoisture was a press sample it’s one I’d buy again without any qualms. It’s formulated with natural ingredients and never tested on amimals. It contains shea butter and Vitamins C & E to nourish, protect and moisturize. Available in 20 shades with most designated for darker skintones.

MAYBELLINE INSTANT AGE REWIND TREATMENT CONCEALERS

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer

In actuality, the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealers are the only ones currently in my makeup wardrobe. Any others are long gone. But these have made the cut and make me want to try Maybelline’s latest concealers. Sadly no personal pictures since I lost them and haven’t found a way to upload photos but… I can still vouch for these. I bought 3 different shades: #110 is the shade I use for concealer, #150 is their neutralizer shade , and #160 is their brightener shade. I’ve only used 110 and 160 so far and they do what they say. #110 is good for those of us with pale skin. It’s not a wimpy concealer, the coverage is quite nice. #160 is slightly peachy and I use this to brighten undereye circles. The formula is quite creamy and a little goes a long way.

As tempting as it is for me to use the cushy sponge top, it’s too heavy an application so I dot it on and then blend with my finger. Age Rewind contains goji berry and haloxen to help diminish puffiness and dark circles under your eyes. #150 is for very stubborn dark circles and should be applied prior to any other concealer.

There you have my drugstore buys. What do you use and recommend? I’m always curious and up for new challenges.  —  Marcia

SheaMoisture Ultra Smooth Long Wear Eye Pencil review and swatches

SheaMoisture Ultra Smooth Long Wear Eye Pencils

SheaMoisture Ultra Smooth Long Wear Eye Pencils

Yesterday I posted about my new lean mean makeup routine since I am always running late, and it reminded me that I haven’t reviewed these awesome gel eyeliner pencils.  SheaMoisture makes 150 different products for ‘every kind of normal’, and their products include some great affordable cosmetics.  The Ultra Smooth Long Wear Eye Pencils ($7.99) are great pops of color that last all day.                                                                                 samples

My favorite liner is gel eyeliner but I am lazy about using the pots and a brush.  I love pencils because you just take off the top and draw, and the lining deed is done.  The SheaMoisture Ultra Smooth Long Wear Eye Pencils go on like a gel and last like a liquid liner.  The color payoff is awesome, and while there is lots of time for play, the liner stays in place – even when my mascara doesn’t.

The eyeliners come in Black, Blue, Brown, Purple, Teal and Turquoise.  I have three of them:

Purple, which is a bright shimmery pinky lavender; Brown, which is a deep brown with a slight golden shimmer; and Blue, which is a light cream blue .  I love using two different shades, typically Brown on my upper lash line then Blue or Purple on my lower lash line.

The colors are great, the application is easy, and the wear is long.  What’s not to love??  You can fine SheaMoisture products online at SheaMoisture.com.  Also, take a look at this video for their #BreakTheWalls national awareness platform as they challenge beauty industry standards with the question What’s Normal? – Lisa
