Stumped for Father’s Day? Go for grooming products from Beard Guyz and Van Der Hagen!

Van Der Hagen Shaving Set and Beard Guyz Beard Oil

Van Der Hagen Shaving Set and Beard Guyz Beard Oil

It seems everyone has a mighty beard these days, including my son. He came home from grad school with such a mighty beard I couldn’t believe it!With Max

Thankfully, he’s not a father yet…Marcia loves being a grandma, but I’m happy to wait. But my hubby is a happy father and he’s also got a beard. Both of the men in my family are pretty obsessive about grooming their facial hair and I’m betting the men in your life might be too – so here a few great products to consider for Father’s Day.

Beard Guyz Beard Oil 25 ($14.95) is a really cool grooming product. It has 25 organic oils that actually keep beard hair soft and conditioned. It really does turn an unruly facial mess into a wonderfully silky beard. It also conditions the skin, relieving any dryness and itchiness, and it doesn’t leave hands or hair greasy at all. I am very, very impressed with Beard Oil 25…and so are the guys. This is a WINNER. It comes in 7 scents including Original, Black Ice, Citrus Splash, Lake Breeze, Cedar Cove, Cool Mint, and Everest, plus Unscented. My guys love the Original scent.

If your dad is a shaving aficionado, I suggest the Boar Shave Set ($30) from Van Der Hagen. The Boar Shave Set is a terrific ‘throwback’ item that any man worth his beard will love to get for Father’s Day. This shaving set has everything he will need for a beautifully close shave:
•    100 percent pure badger brush to lather in luxury
•    Classic monogrammed apothecary mug
•    Hypoallergenic shave soap
•    Combination brush & razor stand

Don’t forget to also pick up the Traditional Safety Razor ($20). Wow, I remember my dad using this kind of razor…and then in later years bemoaning the fact that he couldn’t find them any longer. This razor is made with heavy-duty chrome plated brass. It has a smaller handle, which makes for a better grip while shaving. It includes 5 double edge, Teflon-coated razor blades. The stainless steel blades prevent ingrown hairs and the back of the cartridge actually holds used blades, quite a clever feature!

  • Chrome-plated razor
  • Butterfly opening
  • Pack of 5 double edge, Teflon-coated, ice tempered stainless steel blades

The van der Hagen soaps are all made in small batches using their own unique kettle process. The shave soap has humectants like shea, mango and cocoa butters which means a closer shave without nicks, cuts, or ingrown hairs.

My husband absolutely LOVES this shaving set. The first time he used it he said, “This is going to make me want to shave more often!” And guess what? He really does because it’s such a kick to use this retro set. That makes me happy because it leaves his skin really soft and smooth and let’s face it – that makes for much better kissing.

The Tree Hut Bare collection is going to change your bath time

We’re fairly new to the Tree Hut family of products but we think we’ll be sticking around for a while. Tree Hut’s representatives sent us a package of their BARE products to get to know the brand and we’ve been busy using them. We’re excited about sharing these so that you can become a part of the family too.

Marcia is sharing 2 Tree Hut Bare products that are making her smooth as can be

Tree Hut Bare Shave Prep and Hair Remover

Tree Hut Bare Shave Prep and Hair Remover

TREE HUT SHAVE PREP SUGAR SCRUB ($9.99)

This tub friendly scrub is helping me shave my legs and underarms. I like this much better than a shaving cream because it’s a double duty product. It exfoliates my legs and at the same time lifts the hair so that I can get a closer shave.

Tree Hut Shave Prep Sugar Scrub

Tree Hut Shave Prep Sugar Scrub

The fragrance of this delicious and makes me wish I had a bigger hot water tank so I could enjoy exfoliating my legs longer. It softens my skin and leaves it lightly scented after. I use an unscented body lotion after shaving my legs so that the lightly fragrance of almond/coconut aroma sticks around longer.

It’s formulated with Oat Kernel which helps soothe and relieve skin irritation. There’s Avocado Oil in it and sugar and those help exfoliate and moisturize. Coconut Extract is a natural product that contains the necessary proteins for tissue repair. Put them all together with your favorite razor and you have soft sleek skin.

Tree Hut Shave Prep Sugar Scrub

Tree Hut Shave Prep Sugar Scrub

  • Sugar: Gentle, topical exfoliation to reveal glowing skin while drawing in moisture to hydrate
  • Oat Kernel: finely ground oatmeal known to soothe and relieve minor skin irritation
  • Certified Organic Shea Butter: Rich in Vitamins A, E, and F to help collagen production and promote skin elasticity. Shea Butter softens, smooths, and helps strengthen skin.
  • Avocado Oil: Defends against free-radicals. Also rich in nutrients such as oleic acid, potassium, and lecithin, Avocado Oil works to generate healthy skin.
  • Coconut Extract: Naturally contains the necessary proteins for tissue repair, keeping skin healthy and rejuvenated.
  • Sweet Almond Oil: A potent antioxidant for healthy skin and stimulates the formation of collagen.
  • Safflower Seed Oil: Natural linoleic acid contains anti-inflammatory properties which help to fight skin conditions. It also prevents dryness and hydrates to provide healthy glow, while promoting elasticity.
  • Macadamia Seed Oil: Supports healthy cells and helps reduce skin deterioration.

TREE HUT BARE HAIR REMOVING SUGAR WAX KIT ($14.99)

Tree Hut Bare Hair Removing Sugar Wax Kit

Tree Hut Bare Hair Removing Sugar Wax Kit

This is a new type of product for me. I’ve never waxed by myself before so this was a paradigm change for me. I have only tried it on my legs but I’m anxious to try it on my face since it’s good for removing hair on your legs, body, and face.

Tree Hut Bare Hair Removing Sugar Wax Kit

Tree Hut Bare Hair Removing Sugar Wax Kit

To use you remove the cap and heat the jar in the microwave for 30 seconds, stir and reheat in 15 second intervals if needed. What you want is the consistency of honey. With one of the sticks in the kit apply the wax on clean skin in the direction of hair growth. Make sure that the amount you apply is smaller than the size of the strip. While warm smooth the strip over the product and rub in the same direction. Now comes the scary part  –  hold your skin taut and remove the strip in the opposite direction of the hair growth. It’s best if you hair is about 1/4″ long before use which is why I haven’t tried it on my face yet.

Tree Hut Bare Hair Removing Sugar Wax with strip

The kit contains 8 oz. of Hair Removing Sugar Wax, 10 wax strips, and 3 wooden applicators. It’s not a one time deal since you can use it again by just heating up the jar.

Ingredients: Honey, Sucrose, Allantoin, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylexylglycerin

TREE HUT BARE MOISTURIZING SHAVE OIL  ($11.99)

Wow, is this stuff amazing!! I typically just reach for some soap when I am shaving my legs or under my arms, but not anymore. I adore this deliciously scented shaving oil. It smells fantastic…like tropical freshness. Smooth it onto wet skin and even a dull razor just glides across skin. It leaves your skin with the closest shave imaginable and the softest skin ever.  This is a real keeper.

TREE HUT BARE HAIR MINIMIZING BODY BUTTER ($9.99)

Another super smelling product!! This is a thick, creamy body butter that gradually reduces hair growth. You have to use it for a month before seeing noticeable results. I used it for five weeks and did notice a difference. I’m sure that if I continued with it, I would have even better results, but since I’m not a very hairy person to begin with and I have so many body products to try I probably won’t.

My daughter, however, is really excited about this and is already bugging me to stop by Ulta to get another jar. I will probably just use it as a body butter from time to time because it does a fabulous job of softening skin and it smells tropical and fresh.

If you want to freshen up your hair removal routine, we recommend checking out the Tree Hut…the BIZ gives it high marks and we can’t wait to try other products from this excellent line. You can find Tree Hut products online at Amazon and at Ulta stores.

How would you like to win a BIC Simply Soleil Click? You would, I’m sure of it

BIC Simply Soleil Click

BIC Simply Soleil Click

The very first razor I ever bought was from BIC. I remember sneaking it into the house because my father was very strict about my sister and I shaving our legs. He absolutely forbid it but even though my sister and I were really obedient children, we drew the line on that. We had a “discount” drugstore that we’d spend hours in and BIC was always in our bag when we left. Much later it became a joke between us all when my father would say “I still haven’t told you that you could shave your legs.” even on our wedding days. Having this new BIC SIMPLY SOLEIL CLICK RAZOR in this gorgeous fuchsia shade has brought back great memories along with simply smooth legs!

BIC Simply Soleil

BIC Simply Soleil Click

The BIC Simply Soleil Click is a razor with removable heads but those aren’t sold separately. What you’ll receive is

  • One (1) new, brightly-colored disposable handle and six disposable cartridges in each package (refills not sold separately)
  • Three (3) blades for a flawlessly smooth shave
  • A soothing moisture strip with cocoa butter

    BIC Simply Soleil

    BIC Simply Soleil Click

BIC Simply Soleil

BIC Simply Soleil Click

There are a lot of reasons that I’m enjoying using this razor. It has a pivoting head which makes it ideal for use at my ankles and underarms especially. The moisture strip is 2.5 times larger than the average BIC razor. It was made for women and we all deserve something special made just for us. None of those blue BIC’s in our baths!! And it’s very reasonably priced at $6.99 MSRP.

BIC Simply Soleil Click

BIC Simply Soleil Click

A lot of us are guilty of not changing our razor blades often enough because of the price but with BIC Simply Soleil Click that’s not an issue. And for TEN of you it’s really not going to be an issue since BIC is happily giving 10 Beauty Info Zone US readers a chance to win one for themselves. I don’t know about you, but I love getting packages in the mail.

GIVEAWAY INFORMATION:  This is for US only and will end on Thursday, August 6th at 11:59 p.m. EDT. Use the Rafflecopter to enter. If comments close toward the end of the giveaway then email me at [email protected] and label it BIC Giveaway and send me your comment, then click and continue. Grooming Lounge is the perfect place for Father’s Day

photo from etsy.com

photo from etsy.com

Father’s Day will be here in a New York minute, so why not get that shopping done now? The Grooming Lounge, an online website dedicated to manly grooming, takes all the work out of ‘dad’ shoppping for you. I count 96 different available brands from ACE for Men to Zwilling, with some pretty intriguing brands in between. Hello, Colonel Conk!  Of course I also had to take a look at Wurkinstiffs, Fresh Balls and Sasquatch Soap Bars. Don’t let the male-centric brand names scare you off – there are some seriously awesome grooming products here for bathing, shaving, and smelling good. This site is definitely worth a perusal.

Grooming Lounge The Shavior and Mug Moisturizer

Grooming Lounge sent two samples to test from their own line:  The Shavoir and Mug Moisturizer. Both are awesome gifts if the dad in your life prefers shaving to the bearded look.

Grooming Lounge The ShaviorGrooming Lounge The Shavior swatch

The Shavior ($24) gets serious props just for having a freaking fabulous name. Beyond that, pretty much everyone who shaves experiences irritation, bumps, and ingrown hairs at some point. This lotion not only does triage for already existing problems, it also helps to prevent further issues. Glycolic acid prevents the buildup that leads to bumps, and the lotion is full of botanicals, antioxidants, moisturizers and even sunscreen. Paraben, oil and sulfate free.

Grooming Lounge Mug MoisturizerGrooming Lounge Mug Moisturizer swatch

The Mug Moisturizer ($25) is something even the most skin care-resistant men will want to use. Men who shave in particular are prone to itchy or flaky skin. This is a light, oil-free moisturizer than has a slight outdoorsy scent. It leaves skin moisturized but not shiny, something my hubby definitely prefers. The terrific ingredients include Apple Fruit Extract, Retinyl Palmitate, Chamomile Flower Extract and Sodium Hyaluronate.  Paraben and sulfate-free.

The Grooming Lounge products get a big thumbs up from the men in my life and the website is definitely easy to use and loaded with amazing Father’s Day gift possibilities. Head on over to take a look, even if it’s just to find out who the heck Colonel Conk really is.  – Lisa

Get it for your guy: The Men’s Glossybox

Shampoo, shave, and style – that’s what the latest Glossybox for Men promises and for $40 it delivers everything your man needs to groom himself right up.

The Men's Glossybox

The Men’s Glossybox

There are two full size hair items, one full size skin care item, one full size shave item, and two sample size items.  The full size items together are worth $78, so this is definitely a bargain box of manly products.

Redken Clean Brew

Redken Clean Brew

Redken For Men Clean Brew Shampoo (retails for $12.50):  you know those commercials where there is a screaming hot guy out in the woods, doing something really manly like chopping down a tree or riding a wild horse?  The scent of this shampoo is exactly like what I imagine that screaming hot guy smells like.  It’s woodsy and clean and fabulously macho.  My husband LOVES this, it really is a terrific shampoo for guys who like working on cars or building houses because it has anti-grit technology that will clean even the most tenacious engine oil out of hair.  And if your guy has naturally oily hair, it’s shampoo perfection.

Redken Firm Grasp

Redken Firm Grasp

Redken for Men Firm Grasp texurizing hair clay (retails for $19):  this gets a big thumbs up from the hubby.  It’s a texturizing hair clay that smells woodsy, but it’s not an overpowering scent. It is terrific for shorter hair, leaving a matte finish that looks mod yet rugged.

Nuxe Men's Eye Cream

Nuxe Men Multi-Purpose Eye Cream

Nuxe Men Multi-Purpose Eye Cream (retails for $28): it is a small bottle, but it is the full size product. The eye cream is in an airless pump, it’s really terrific packaging. The eye cream is a thin cream that smells vaguely of pine.  It is designed to soothe puffiness, decrease dark circles, and decrease the look of fine lines and wrinkles. It sure leaves my skin super soft and hydrated. I got my husband to use it for a few days, and he liked it…but I’m betting it’s not something he will use all the time.  Eye cream is a little too much maintenance for him. So guess what? I’m stealing it for myself.

Zirh Prepare Shave Oil

Zirh Prepare Shave Oil

Zirh Pre-Shave Oil (retails for $18.50):  this is an oil that your guy smooths on before the shaving cream. It gives the shaving area more lubrication so shaving is easy and razor burn issues are things of the past. It’s a small bottle, but one drop is all my husband needs for shaving his beard, so this will last a very long time. Again, my husband liked it and said it worked great…but I am betting this is one more step he won’t do regularly, although he will reach for it when his razor is at the end of its lifetime. In the meantime, I am using it for shaving my legs.

Bulgari Man Extreme

Bulgari Man Extreme

BVLGARI Man Extreme Cologne (this is a deluxe 0.17 fl.oz. sample, a full size 3.4 oz. retails for $79):  what a nice, big sample of this deliciously manly cologne! I find a lot of men’s colognes are way too strong, but this one is subtle and masculine at the same time. Notes include pink grapefruit, Calabrian bergamot, balsa wood, and Haitian vetiver.

There is also a small tube of Sisley Moisturizer that is meant for application after shaving. It’s definitely something to throw in the travel bag for soothing irritated skin.

All in all, it’s a great box. The full size items are terrific and money-wise you get a lot of bang for your buck. Anything my hubby wouldn’t use was of interest to me, so nothing is going to be wasted! I think this is a wonderful gift for the guy in your life. I give a big thumbs up to this Men’s Glossybox.  – Lisa

My Beauty Army goodies for July

Beauty Army July

Beauty Army July

One of the reasons I like the Beauty Army subscription boxes so much is that you have some control over the box. You fill out a profile and can specify from what categories you’d like things. You can also change that profile any time you want. They notify you when it’s your day to select. I don’t think everyone has the same day, I know mine starts on the 20th of the month. They’ll show you about 9 items and you can pick up to 6 of them. If you don’t care for these items you can do one of two things – opt out for the month or play around with your profile and see what else pops up for your selection.

Beauty Army boxes are $10 including shipping and they arrive in a great pink cigar box. I’ve opted out of the box for the last several months but when the July selection came through there was enough in the box to justify my $10 and I went for it. See past months here.

Beauty Army July

Beauty Army July

In my pink box there are 2 full size items, 2 packets and 2 minis. I said yes to the box because of the two full size items.

1) Addiction NV gel eyeliner in Big Daddy which is a chocolate shade. I love gel eyeliners and I go through brown ones quickly. Now the quirk in this is that I just looked it up to find the price and they are gone – out of business – goodbye to Addiction NV. I’ve reviewed 3 shades here but I neglected to put in the price which I believe was around $14. I expect that we’ll see Addiction NV products showing up in some subscriptions. Discontinued or not, I’m happy to have another brown liner because I toss them if they dry out. I’m still using my green one (Scene) and it’s over a year and a half old and going strong. This looks like it’s pulling away a little so I’ll use it quickly.

2) Remington AnyWear Hair ties for hair – these are available at Walmart and cost $2.50 each. I like these for pulling my hair off my neck and go through them quickly. I always meant to pick up the Remington ones but never saw them when I was wandering around Wally World. The colors are pretty summer shades of lilac, peach and cherry. They aren’t as tight as some brands and seem a little bigger. This kind of hair tie eventually loses its mojo so having a few extra around is always a pleasure.

3) Bikini Soft Smooth Shave Oil – this is a deluxe sample size and seems really nice. I’ve never used an oil for shaving but oils are becoming bigger in my world so this will be a treat to try. Great size for travel too. Here’s the website (https://www.bikinisoft.com/) which talks to you. LOL.

4) Mini Kittour travel bottle – speaking of travel – this is an empty bottle that will fit 30ml/1 fl oz of product. This sells for $6 for a set of 2. I can always use things like this.

Mini Kittour bottle, Lift Lab moisturizer, Pida Exfoliating Gel

Mini Kittour bottle, Lift Lab moisturizer, Pida Exfoliating Gel

The rest of my choices were packets and I chose two. I chose Lift Lab Daily Cream since I’m using Lift Lab’s eye cream now with success. I also chose Pida Exfoliating Gel for no specific reason other than that it seemed the most interesting of my choices. Beauty Army makes it sound pretty great so it was hopefully a good one.

So there you have my latest Beauty Army box. If you are interested in this subscription I’d love it if you used my Referral Link so I could eventually get a free box. I promise to share. What do you think of this month’s choices? Have you considered Beauty Army? — Marcia

Have you heard of Razorpouch? Read, learn and maybe win….

When we find something unique on Beauty Info Zone we get really excited to share with you. A company called Razorpouch send us their product to test out and they were nice enough to send an extra for one of our readers.

Razorpouch

Razorpouch

I don’t know about you but I can’t be without my razor in the shower. Razorpouch has been in existence since 2009 but it’s new to me and I love having this now. I used to leave my razor on a ledge and my husband was always moving it. Plus the water streaming down from the shower head would disintegrate the gel on my Gillette Venus razorhead making me switch blades more often than I like. But, like a super hero Razorpouch, is changing that. razor pouch directionsThis is a great organization tool that saves the blades. Here’s all the pros:

  1. Safely store your razor when not in use
  2. Strong suction and magnets allow for versatile placement and usage
  3. Strong, durable design
  4. Lightweight design for traveling
  5. Versatile for storing other products like combs and grooming products
  6. Virtually maintenance-free – Wipes clean with a damp cloth
  7. Eco friendly and made with recyclable materials

While I have mine on my shower wall you can also hang it from your shower curtain or on a hook. It is giving me more time with each blade and it’s not falling down the wall. It’s staying where I put it. (And my husband doesn’t move it!!)
