#ITsAtSephora and we’re so excited

IT Cosmetics at Sephora

IT Cosmetics at Sephora

IT Cosmetics has arrived at our favorite cosmetic store – Sephora. There’s been a long journey for Jamie Kern Lima, the magician behind IT Cosmetics. I remember buying my first product from them and realizing that this was a line that I could get excited about. Now, years and years later, that realization has come true and I’m a big fan of the line.                               press sample

Lisa and I were each sent a box with the products that are exclusive to Sephora. We’re excited to teach you about them and have a giveaway in Lisa’s article. I told her to pick what she wanted to write about and I’d do the rest. Well I think she gave me a hint about what she thinks of me since everything she told me to review are anti-aging products. How dare she?? I’m actually so grateful since I put 4 items to work and my initial experiences with them are worth any insult she might have made.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Lines Serum

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Lines Serum

BYE BYE LINES SERUM  aka Advanced Anti-Aging Wrinkle-Smoothing Miracle Concentrate ($58 for 1 fl oz/30 ml) is terrific for me. I’m all about two things, serums and eye creams, so this new product from IT Cosmetics is what I’d choose in a second. This is a powerful serum though it feels gentle on my skin. It’s absolutely loaded with goodies: anti-aging peptides, hydrolyzed collagen, caviar extract, sea water, argan oil, babassu oil and vitamins A, C, B1, B2, B5, B7, B9 and CoQ10. Wow, talk about hydration and improving the skin barrier. Clinical studies are off the wall with how great testers found this serum and I’m right there with them. Use it morning, night, or both for incredible moisturization. It has the most luscious orange fragrance to top it off and anything that will help prevent and blur my fine lines is on my A-list.

IT Cosmetics Anti-Aging Armour

IT Cosmetics Anti-Aging Armour

At my age I love that I can use a product with the word armour in it. IT COSMETICS ANTI-AGING ARMOUR “Super Smart Skin-Perfecting Beauty Fluid” ($38 1 fl oz) asked for me to pick it. This beauty fluid contains SPF50+. It is a hydrating sunscreen that brightens, protects, and repairs. It has color-correcting pigments to even out the appearance of skin tones. Shake the bottle first to mix ingredients and you’ll find a light beige fluid. I’m very fair so it does do color correcting for me but if I had darker than medium skin I’d want to check it out at Sephora personally to make sure the color worked. I’ve mixed it with a foundation that is too light for me and it upped the color level. Anti-aging Armour has everything I want within: peptides, niacin, hydrolyzed collagen, hyaluronic acid, and antioxidants. What more could this “old” lady want?

Bye Bye Under Eye eye cream

Bye Bye Under Eye eye cream

Bye Bye Under Eye eye cream

Bye Bye Under Eye eye cream

And here we are – another love of mine. The fact that IT Cosmetics at last has an eye cream has convinced me that I will for sure be a customer for life. BYE BYE UNDER EYE EYE CREAM ($48 0.5 fl oz/15 ml) – this phenomenon is made to Smooth, Brighten and Depuff. It contains ingredients to help it do that: anti-aging copper, blue algae, caffeine, vitamin C, collagen, cucumber extract, and peptides. The caffeine makes an instant difference with my puffiness and dark circles. My undereye area feels very soft and hydrated. The eye cream even looks refreshing with its light blue shade. It doesn’t interfere with my concealer so it’s a go day and night.

IT Cosmetics Heavenly Skin CC+ Skin Perfecting Brush #7-2

IT Cosmetics Heavenly Skin CC+ Skin Perfecting Brush #702

IT Cosmetics has always been known for their incredible brushes. This cruelty-free company creates amazing brushes that will make you want to toss others. Along comes this HEAVENLY SKIN CC+ SKIN-PERFECTING BRUSH, No. 702 ($48) to blow me out of the water. While this looks like another fabulous brush from IT, it’s actually a groundbreaker. It has skincare infused brush hair.

IT Cosmetics Heavenly Skin CC+ Skin Perfecting Brush #702

IT Cosmetics Heavenly Skin CC+ Skin Perfecting Brush #702

The fibers on this brush are infused with anti-aging collagen, silk, peptides, niacin, and antioxidants. This is so unique. It’s a perfect brush for skincare and color products. Can’t you almost feel the softness of the brush? It’s been created to optically blur and perfect skin by erasing the appearance of lines, pores and imperfections instantly. I’m using this for my skincare but I want another for my cosmetics now.

As you can see, I’m very impressed with the new inroads that IT COSMETICS has made. I’m kidding about the anti-aging part because I really believe that the sooner you start with anti-aging products of this quality, the better off you’ll be for it in the future. All 4 of these products are exclusive to Sephora so I’m recommending that if you don’t buy now that you put these on your wishlist for the holidays or when Sephora has their yearly discount. Which one tops your list?  —  Marcia

Formula X wants me to be “A Little Sexy”

Formula X in A Little Sexy (sephora.com)

Formula X in A Little Sexy (sephora.com)

My last review about Sephora’s nail polish brand, Formula X, was a rant and a rave. I love the metallic red Fiery and will cherish it but I had mixed feelings about Wunderkind (navy) since there was no specialness to it. My latest Formula X polish though has me enthralled. It’s the limited edition A Little Sexy and it’s more than a little, it’s a lot.

I get compliments on my nails and the polishes I wear all the time so I’m used to that (and truly appreciate it) but with A Little Sexy everyone and their mother was complimenting me. No matter where I was people commented about this polish. The stock picture from Sephora shows this as a lilac but I found it to be a light shimmering denim blue that sometimes looked more periwinkle depending on the top I was wearing.

Formula X in A Little Sexy

This polish is part of a collection of 5 called The Cut – Spring 2014. It’s described as “pearl light periwinkle”. I found on me that it leaned more of a blue periwinkle than a purple. The second best part, after the stunning color, is that it lasted one solid week on me and probably would have lasted longer if I didn’t have another manicure appointment.

A Little Sexy and a lot shimmering

A Little Sexy and a lot shimmering

While it’s not a holographic polish it has the subtle shimmer that some do. It’s not frosty or glittery, it’s just luminous. It applied beautifully from the first coat and the second coat filled it out to perfection. I think this could be my favorite polish for this spring and summer.

Showing polishes like this makes me want to take a photography class so I could honor the specialness of it. Instead you’ll have to take my word and buy it before it’s gone! — Marcia

Formula X polish from Sephora

Not being a nail blogger has its advantages and disadvantages. I love polish and buy an extraordinary amount. Just like some women are drawn to lipstick when they need a pick up or just notice a pretty color, I buy polish. An advantage to being a nail blogger is being able to actually try out all that gorgeousness. They’ll show you an entire collection that they’ve applied so that we can drool over the polishes. A disadvantage though is not always knowing how a polish wears. Do a vice versa and you have me, a lover of polish who sometimes blogs about it. I may not be able to show you whole collections since I only use one polish a week, but I can tell you about the wear of a polish so I do have that advantage.

Formula X Nail Color in Fiery and Wunderkind

Formula X Nail Color in Wunderkind and Fiery

This leads me to reviewing two Formula X polishes by Sephora, Fiery and Wunderkind,  I bought Fiery based on its description which was right up my alley. It’s a gorgeous fiery red metallic polish that is like the finish of a shiny new car gleaming in the lights of the dealer’s showroom. It’s a stunning color that applied beautifully. It also wore like a dream for the first 5 days.

I then chose Wunderkind to put on a secret Santa list and my lovely secret pal purchased that for me. The problem is that the description of Wunderkind doesn’t match the polish in the same way that I’d found with Fiery. Sephora calls it a midnight blue pearl so I expected it to be the navy equivalent to that shiny automobile. Instead I feel like I’m standing in the showroom but they forgot to turn on the lights.

The setback that they both share is longevity. Wunderkind lasted great for 3-4 days while Fiery lasted well for 5 days but then they went downhill. The edges wore quickly, the shine faded (especially on Wunderkind) and I’m once again reminded I’m not a nail blogger so I need to finish out the week with a polish that lost its specialness.

Both Fiery and Wunderkind are part of The New Classics collection at $10.50 each. I can’t help but recommend Fiery if you are a fan of red polish. The shiny metallic shade will have you mesmerized for days. On the other hand I found Wunderkind not to live up to the color shown on Sephora’s site. It didn’t have the oomph on me to make it anything more than another navy polish which is really a shame.

Sephora + Pantone Universal Light Storm Liquid Shadow – oops, not for me

It’s time for me to share two products that I just didn’t care for. I don’t often write a review that’s negative but the more I thought about it, the more I thought that maybe it would be good to share an alternative review. As usual I’m reviewing eyeshadows; Sephora + Pantone Universal Light Storm Liquid Shadow.

I’m a huge fan of cream products. I’m older than the average bear blogger and find that creams can be very forgiving. When I saw the two Sephora + Pantone Universal Liquid Shadows I really wanted them. I held off because no one seemed to be reviewing them plus I just couldn’t get to Sephora. I finally read a rave review on The Notice and knew I needed these. I couldn’t decide which one so of course I ordered both. The two shades are Caramel Cream and Tuscany.

My first mistake was that I didn’t realize that The Notice had Tuscany but also Smoky Grape, not Caramel Creme. My second mistake was buying them at full price ($18) when I know perfectly well that Sephora always marks these down; they are currently $9 each.

Tuscany is the one that had me the most excited. These shadows shift when you wear them so I was thinking of the beautiful nail polishes I love that do that. But I sort of felt that I was wearing nail polish on my lids when I wore Tuscany. The gorgeous purple taupe that I saw on my hand looked awful on my lids. It shrunk the skin on my eyelids and made me feel like I had put crepe paper on my eyes. In addition the color just didn’t suit my fair skin at all.

Caramel Crème looked better on my eyes and would have been okay if I felt that the color suited me. It’s a very warm caramel gold that looks beautiful in the tube but I felt sickly in the shade once on.

These are long lasting and didn’t crease on me when starting with an eyeshadow primer  but I felt they dried tightly. I think they’d be more appropriate for someone without any lines on their lids but for me they were a big mistake.

The one lesson I learned though is that if I can’t find a review from another blogger, maybe I should think twice about purchasing especially when every Sephora or Sephora + Pantone Universal product I’ve bought has ended up at half price within a fairly short time. Oh well, maybe I saved one of you from buying these after my experience. — Marcia

The $50 blogger challenge plus a bonus giveaway

I have to thank Coupons. com for offering this great post. A group of bloggers were given $50 e-gift cards to one of three beauty emporiums. Mine was Sephora. I was let loose on Sephora.com with $50 to spend!!! Whoopee! I got right to work making a list of things I wanted and of course it was long. The challenge from coupons.com was to create at least 2 looks using the $50. I labored over this and finally decided that I wanted to prove that Sephora.com can provide a bag full of goodies for that money. Sephora doesn’t carry drugstore items, they carry what is called prestige brands. We often feel like they are so expensive but look what I got with my e-certificate from coupons. com.

Coupons.com haul: Stila, Kat VonD

Coupons.com haul: Stila, Kat Von D

I bought two Stila travel palettes which are normally $16 each but are on sale at Sephora.com for $10 plus 3 Kat Von D Waterproof Eyeliner pencils $10 each). I also had a code (sephora.com shows current codes on their website) for a free YSL Shocking mascara. I’ve got everything I need for eyes, lips and cheeks with these.

The first of the two Stila palettes is Vibrant in Vancouver which is comprised of the following colors of eyeshadows: English Boy (satin light beige), Cypress (shimmery light brown), Granville (matte light chocolate), Seaplane (shimmery olive) and Coal Harbour (matte dark brown). The convertible lip and cheek cream in Tiger Lily is a shimmery rose-brown.

Stila Vibrant in Vancouver

These are the typical neutral colors that I wear all the time. I picked this palette for a few reasons – 1) I’m loving olive greens at the moment, 2) I always feel good in browns and beiges and 3) I had a feeling that the convertible color would work well for me. This is a good palette for my everyday type looks plus when I start with a base like a Maybelline Tattoo I can change the looks even more.

The other palette I picked is Rockin’ in Rio which turned into a surprise favorite. I chose it to add variety but it turns out I really like this and it will stay in my rotation. The eye shadows are Copacabana (satin pale beige), Samba (satin medium beige), Bossa Nova (shimmery light greyish brown), Carnavale (shimmery greyish black) and Ipanema (shimmery midnight blue). The convertible color is called Freesia and it’s a great candy pink that I like on my lips as well as my cheeks.

The three pencils I bought are by Kat Von D and were highly recommended by a friend. They are the Waterproof Autograph Pencils which cost just $10 each – I bought 3  since I wanted to be able to change my look. The shades I have are Piaf (purplish gray with multicolor sparkle), Napolitano (bronze with gold sparkle) and Black Metal (black with silver sparkle). I guess I was in a sparkly mood. These aren’t full size pencils, they are half size which is great for someone with a collection my size and for trying out new colors.

While the challenge was for two looks I was able to create much more than that depending on the placement of the eyeshadow or the eyeliner I chose. Each eyeliner worked with two palettes plus I was able to dampen shadows in the palettes for eyeliners too. The bonus YSL mascara is not one that worked for me. I didn’t get shocking lashes, I felt that my lashes stuck together too much and I didn’t see anything other than some definition. But what a great way to know since it was a bonus code.

Now for some looks:
