Going quackers over Rimmel eye makeup @magnifeyes #giveaway

RIMMEL Magnif’Eyes Colour Edition

There’s something so satisfying about going to Target or CVS/RiteAid/Ulta etc. and coming home with a bag full of goodies to make yourself look beautiful. Just the glow you’ll have for spending not much money yet having so many items to play with is a thrill. Today I have quite a few RIMMEL LONDON eye products that will make you look like a million but only cost you around $30.

RIMMEL Magnif’Eyes Colour Edition

samples, affiliates

It’s no surprise that the first thing I opened in my package from RIMMEL is this Magnif’Eyes Eye Countering Palette Colour Edition. I always go for the eyes and I have a few other RIMMEL Magnif’Eyes Palettes already that I enjoy. This is their newest rendition and has everything you need for a variety of looks.

RIMMEL Magnif’Eyes Colour Edition

RIMMEL Magnif’Eyes Colour Edition

Before I get into the colors, descriptions and swatches you need to know that as beautiful as this is, you really truly need an eyeshadow primer to wear the palette and to make it stand out on your eyes. My first set of swatches looked so wimpy when I downloaded them so I had to redo them just like I wear them – with a primer!

RIMMEL Magnif’Eyes Colour Edition

1 – is a bright white in a satin formula. I use this on my browbone but almost always with a soft fluffy brush so it’s not too stark against my pale skin. I also use that brush to go over any shadows that I need to lighten up.

2 – is a satin yellow gold. It applies easily and brightens any look. Very pretty along your bottom lashline.

3 – is a rose gold, not quite as shiny as my photo. It’s a jewelry type rose gold. It’s really unusual to find a rose gold in a drugstore palette.

4 – a golden brown satin

5 – has a lot of brown to it but still has the brightness that makes browns so wearable

6 – at first I was going to say this is a rose gold but once worn I realized it’s more than that. There’s a lot of orange in it but a flattering orange mixed with the rose. It’s very bright on me so I’ve learned to use that light fluffy brush with it.

7 – this is the first matte in the palette, it’s a lightish brown.

8 – Pop of color anyone? This teal is what makes this a Magnif’eyes palette. It really is a beautiful teal that is crisp and bright, perfect for summer skin.

9 – another matte and not my personal favorite. There is a tiny bit of shimmer to it in the pan but on my eyes I felt like it didn’t show up that way.

10 – a navy that applies brighter than it appears in the pan. I like it as an eyeliner.

11 – don’t go by my swatch since it’s actually a purple with some shimmer. It has a black base so you need light to see that it’s actually purple.

12 – last is a matte brown that is almost black. I’ve used it on my brows to check it out and it works well for me.

RIMMEL Magnif’Eyes Colour Edition

The brush it comes with is a soft one that will do in a pinch and the opposite side is a sponge. The shadows can be powdery but the end effect is pretty. I suggest you apply it before concealer and foundation.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Stick in Guilty Grey

A great accompaniment to this palette is one of the Scandal’eyes Eye Shadow Sticks and the Guilty Grey one is wonderful. If you love smokey eyes this is perfection since it’s not black but it’s dark enough to pass for black. I have been applying colors from the Magnif’eyes Color Edition over the crayon and come up with some great creations. My favorite is using #2 over it and creating a golden olive.

Rimmel Brow This Way Fibre Pencil

To complete my look I’ve found that the Rimmel BROW THIS WAY Fibre Pencil is pretty great. I purposely showed you my pencil after two uses so you could see the fibers in it. This only comes in two shades, Medium Brown and Dark Brown, which leaves others out but if one of those two shades work for you then you’ll love it. If I were to buy another I’d buy Dark Brown since that’s the natural color of my brows but I also use the Medium Brown at the far end. Then I’ll blend the two together.

The fibers aren’t seen anywhere on your face, they magically fill in bare spaces to make brows look fuller. These last on me really well. The pencil is hard so it doesn’t smear. Sometimes though I need to apply it on my hand first to soften it up.

RIMMEL

There’s more to my review including the items for our giveaway. First up in the giveaway are both the Brow This Way Fiber Pencils since I was sent two extras. Then there is the beautiful Magnif’Eyes single eyeshadow in Show Off. This is just beautiful, it’s a shimmery charcoal that you won’t be able to resist. No swatches since it’s in the giveaway but it’s fab.

The next item in the giveaway is STAY MATTE LIQUID LIP COLOUR also in a charcoal, 850 Shadow. When you are over the age of 50 and a grandmother charcoal isn’t going to cut it but it will for someone more “hip” than I am.

Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour in 850 Shadow

According to Rimmel the Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colors have a velvety matte finish and impressive staying power – up to 12hr – kiss-proof, touch-proof, water-proof. This is just one of 15 shades on Amazon and CVS.

I am quackers about these products. I’ve been wearing the Colour palette several times a week, the brow pencils daily, and the shadow stick whenever I can get a little fancier. I think you’ll go quackers too, but if you win I won’t be sending one of my cute little quackers. I think you’ll be happier with RIMMEL instead.  —  Marcia

When is a matte lipstick not really a matte? When it’s The Only 1 Matte by Rimmel

Rimmel London The Only 1 Matte Lipstick

Rimmel London The Only 1 Matte Lipstick

Earlier today I reviewed the Magnif’Eyes Shadow Palettes but what’s your face without a beautiful lipstick? You’ll want one to wear with your gorgeous eyeshadows and Rimmel London has so many to choose from. I was sent a variety of their THE ONLY 1 MATTE LIPSTICKS and these will pair perfectly with their eyeshadow palettes.

Rimmel London The Only 1 Matte Lipstick

Rimmel London The Only 1 Matte Lipstick

These beauties are housed in a bright red slanted tube so they won’t get lost when digging through your purse for them. There are 10 shades available altogether so you’re going to want to go to Walgreen, CVS, Rite Aid, Target, and other stores to find them. At $6.97 (Walmart) to $7.99 (and often sales) you may not be able to resist a few.

I’m not a big fan of matte lipstick but I do wear them on occasion and Rimmel’s The Only 1 Matte Lipsticks have full pretty tones that don’t dry my lips out if I’ve exfoliated them first. These are described as a velvet matte and they do have good staying power. They have a candy fragrance that takes about 20 minutes before I stop noticing it. I’m sure most people won’t be as sensitive to the fragrance as I am.

Now onto sharing!

#200  SALUTE is the pinkest of the group I have, it’s a true pink that is summer ready.

Rimmel London Magnif’eyes Shadow palettes are calling and you want to answer

Rimmel Long Magnif-Eyes Shadow palettes

Rimmel Long Magnif-Eyes Shadow palettes

I have a confession to make. This past winter I splurged and spent a small fortune on two Tom Ford palettes. I was swayed by the beautiful photography I saw online and the descriptions. The confession is that I have worn them so little yet I’ve worn these Rimmel London Magnif’Eyes Shadow palettes ($7.99) over and over and over since they were sent to me. I learned a lesson here that I want to pass on. Even though I crave luxury cosmetics, you can find products at the drugstore that are absolutely lovely and that you’ll love.

These are actually called MAGNIF’EYE EYESHADOW CONTOURING PALETTE but that’s too long and unwieldy. The palettes though are not unwieldy. Each has 12 shades that have gradient colors from light to dark. The contouring comes in since the back of the palette shows you that you can look at the palette in terms of lightest for all over the lid or highlighting, medium shades to add depth, and darkest shades for contouring and definition.

Rimmel Magnif'Eyes palette back

Rimmel Magnif’Eyes palette back

Rimmel London created 3 different Magnif’eyes Palettes with 12 shadows each. I have London Nudes Calling and Grunge Glamour and I refuse to play favorites since at that price you can have all 3 if you desire. Grunge Glamour is available at Ulta right now while all three can be found at Walgreens (sale going on now too).

Rimmel Magnif'eyes London Nudes and Grunge Glamour

Rimmel Magnif’eyes London Nudes and Grunge Glamour

Many of the shadows have a light shimmer to them but you won’t find that they are glittery. I’ll attempt to describe the shades.

LONDON NUDES CALLING:

Rimmel London Magnif'eyes London Nudes Calling

Rimmel London Magnif’eyes London Nudes Calling

  1. light shimmery white
  2. light shimmer gold
  3. light satiny cream
  4. matte beige (blends in invisibly on my eye)
  5.  (out of order on my arm) satin sand
  6. metallic rose gold

    Rimmel Magnif'eyes London Nudes Calling

    Rimmel Magnif’eyes London Nudes Calling

  7. satiny copper
  8. satin taupe
  9. satiny golden taupe
  10. satin chocolate
  11. satin deep chocolate with a hint of purple
  12. lightly metallic bronze

There’s just about every shade you want when you are playing with nudes, even smokey eyes are easy to do. What I love about this palette is that the colors apply well but even more important is that they last. You don’t need another palette to find a base coat or eyeliner since London Nudes Calling has it all!

GRUNGE GLAMOUR

This palette has a darker feel to it and while there are a few nudes, it goes beyond to help you have more drama aka glamour.

Rimmel London Magnif'eyes Grunge Glamour

Rimmel London Magnif’eyes Grunge Glamour

  1. matte cream
  2. satin very light golden sand
  3. matte flesh
  4. lightly shimmered golden taupe
  5. satin pewter
  6. metallic denim

    Rimmel London Magnif'eyes Grunge Glamour

    Rimmel London Magnif’eyes Grunge Glamour

  7. satin charcoal
  8. matte charcoal
  9. matte milk chocolate
  10. shimmered dark charcoal
  11. shimmery black
  12. almost metallic purple

This is a perfect companion piece too to London Nudes Calling for me since I love the purple with some of the shades in that one.

With an eyeshadow primer these last the day for me. I get a little fallout when I’m first applying but that’s easily cleaned up, other than that they don’t budge or fade. They really stay true throughout the day. While the palette itself doesn’t have the class of a Tom Ford palette neither does it have the price. I am much happier with these two palettes and will make sure I have an eye out for any future editions.  —  Marcia

Makeup Wars – favorite drugstore foundations and concealers

Woman applying concealerWelcome back to Makeup Wars and our budget friendly theme of the week – drugstore favorites for foundation and concealer. My picks are rather limited but they are products I use all the time so they are trusted and true for me. I’ll be interested in what my fellow bloggers pick since I’m always in the market for something new.

My two favorite foundations for this theme are by Rimmel and SheaMoisture while my favorite concealers are from Maybelline. The prices are reasonable but more important I love the way they wear.

RIMMEL LASTING FINISH 25 HR SKIN PERFECTING FOUNDATION

Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25 HR foundation

Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25 HR foundation

I bought Rimmel Lasting Finish on the recommendation of a friend from a Facebook beauty board. She just kept saying how perfect her skin looked with it and it was hard to resist. The hardest part of buying drugstore foundation is color matching. Since I’m very pale I start with the lightest shade. My choice was Pale Ivory 091 which is good match though a tad darker than I prefer.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation in 091 Light Ivory

Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation in 091 Light Ivory

I sometimes mix in a drop of Manic Panic Dreamtone Flawless Foundation Color Corrector in white with this and other foundations. This $9.24 product has saved me so many times and makes foundations too dark usable again.manic panicDepending on what you read Rimmel Lasting Finish is either a medium or full coverage. I’d say it’s in between. It’s very lightweight to apply and doesn’t feel heavy or look cakey. There is a fragrance to it that takes about 10 minutes before I stop noticing it but that doesn’t stop me.

SHEAMOISTURE WEIGHTLESS SHEA SERUM FOUNDATION

Shea Moisture Weightless Shea Serum Foundaton

Lisa and I reviewed 3 shades of the SheaMoisture Serum Foundation in one of our side by side reviews. Above are Nude and Latte from Lisa and below is Porcelain that I use.

Shea Moisture Tea Rose Luscious Lipstick and Weightless Shea Serum Foundation in Porcelain

SheaMoisture Tea Rose Luscious Lipstick and Weightless Shea Serum Foundation in Porcelain

By coincidence I’m wearing this foundation as I type. I find this to be such an easy to wear foundation. It lays lightly on my skin yet the coverage is excellent. No matter what tool I chose to blend with, it always works well. In my original review of this I compared this $14.99 foundation to my $65 bottle of Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation SPF40 and the only difference is the $40 saved and the fact that there’s no SPF in SheaMoisture.

SHEA MOISTURE Weightless Shea Serum Foundation in Porcelain

SHEAMOISTURE Weightless Shea Serum Foundation in Porcelain

While the SheaMoisture was a press sample it’s one I’d buy again without any qualms. It’s formulated with natural ingredients and never tested on amimals. It contains shea butter and Vitamins C & E to nourish, protect and moisturize. Available in 20 shades with most designated for darker skintones.

MAYBELLINE INSTANT AGE REWIND TREATMENT CONCEALERS

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer

In actuality, the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealers are the only ones currently in my makeup wardrobe. Any others are long gone. But these have made the cut and make me want to try Maybelline’s latest concealers. Sadly no personal pictures since I lost them and haven’t found a way to upload photos but… I can still vouch for these. I bought 3 different shades: #110 is the shade I use for concealer, #150 is their neutralizer shade , and #160 is their brightener shade. I’ve only used 110 and 160 so far and they do what they say. #110 is good for those of us with pale skin. It’s not a wimpy concealer, the coverage is quite nice. #160 is slightly peachy and I use this to brighten undereye circles. The formula is quite creamy and a little goes a long way.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer

As tempting as it is for me to use the cushy sponge top, it’s too heavy an application so I dot it on and then blend with my finger. Age Rewind contains goji berry and haloxen to help diminish puffiness and dark circles under your eyes. #150 is for very stubborn dark circles and should be applied prior to any other concealer.

There you have my drugstore buys. What do you use and recommend? I’m always curious and up for new challenges.  —  Marcia

RIMMEL Magnif'Eyes and NYC Get It All

RIMMEL Magnif’Eyes and NYC Get It All

The lazy, hazy days of summer sometimes need a pick-me-up and if you are reading this blog that usually means something cosmetic. When that feeling pops up there’s nothing like a drugstore trip to add a new product to your life. Having received 2 of the Rimmel London Magnif’eyes Double Ended Shadow + Liner and 3 NYC NEW YORK COLOR GET IT ALL ALL IN ONE LIP COLORS was a definite boost in these lazy days.

There’s so much to love with the Rimmel London Magnif’eyes Double Ended Shadow + Liner that 2 aren’t quite enough. These amazing shadow crayons and liners are the smoothest I’ve tried in ages and the price is so right at MSRP $6.47. How do you pick from these shades? #001 Back To Black, Liner: Matte Black, Shadow: Gun Metal Grey (high pearl with glitter), #002 Kissed By A Rose Gold, Liner: Brown (low pearl), Shadow: Rose Gold (medium pearl), #003 Queens Of The Bronzed Age, Liner: Gold (high pearl with glitter), Shadow: Bronze (medium pearl), #004 Dark Side Of Blue, Liner: Matte Cobalt Blue, Shadow: Dark Grey (low pearl), #005 Pink & Purple Rain, Liner: Matte Dark Plum,  Shadow: Light Pink (high pearl with glitter)rimmel collage

I’ve got Pink & Purple Rain along with Kissed by a Rose Gold. These 2-in-1 pencils are easy to apply and last me the entire day. I don’t even have to use an eyeshadow primer with the crayon end since they last through even these incredibly hot and humid days.

Rimmel Magnif'Eyes liner end

The liners are kohl kajal so they are intense and long wearing. Not only can they be worn as eyeliner on the top or bottom but they can be used on the waterline. The shadow side is incredible with a long lasting, creaseproof, and waterproof formula. These are total love with Kissed by a Rose Gold especially getting a lot of wear.

ExeptioNUDE is a mauve nude, PINKdigious is a bright pretty pink, and ImpREDssive is a hot red shade that will get you noticed. My favorite foundations for winter – Top 10 Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday has rolled around again and I’m excited to be sharing my favorites for foundation. I have more than on my list but just as important as my favorites are my two tools of choice so that took two spots. I purposely left out CC Creams even though I will use them in the winter but I wanted to stick with foundations for a change.

These are in no particular order. These are all sitting on my vanity right now! I may not be neat but I’m happy!!
1.
BOBBI BROWN INTENSIVE SKIN SERUM FOUNDATION is pretty new to me and pretty impressive too. It has SPF 40 in it and is available in 18 shades plus it’s very forgiving. I’ve been wanting a serum foundation and the one I bought from Armani a few years ago never felt right. The makeup artist I went to loves this foundation and gave me a sample. That brought me back to buy it. It’s very lightweight and you wouldn’t expect it to hide imperfections but it does. It feels great on my skin too.
2.
TOO FACED BORN THIS WAY ABSOLUTE PERFECTION FOUNDATION just moved into my house last week. I keep reading about it and Sephora F&F finally put me over the edge. I’ve worn it twice which really isn’t enough to put it on a list but both times I was quite happy with the way it looked and lasted. This $38 foundation comes in 18 shades and is oil-free. I love that it has ingredients to help with hydration (coconut water and hyaluronic acid are two).
3.
IT COSMETICS O2 O2 ULTRA REPAIR LIQUID OXYGEN FOUNDATION ($38) was my foundation favorite of the year for 2014 and remains a favorite 11 months later. I’m a huge fan of IT Cosmetics but with all brands some products are better than others. This is a ‘better than others’ foundation. Fair matches me perfectly but it only is available in 5 shades which might be a problem for some. One of the biggest reasons to love IT is their anti-aging ingredients (Peptides, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Niacin, Hyaluronic Acid and Grape Seed Oil plus Vitamins A, C, & E). This is actually a serum foundation which I didn’t realize until I was typing this up!!
4.
SENNA LASTING ILLUSION FOUNDATION* has been one that I’ve counted on for an airbrushed finish for almost two years. This is a fuller coverage than most of the others I own and there are many days and occasions that I crave that coverage. It’s a matte satin that reflects light away from imperfections. Senna isn’t talked about enough but in my opinion people are missing out on this great Hollywood indie brand. ($48, 7 shades)
5.
MALLY BEAUTY EFFORTLESS AIRBRUSH PERFECT SKIN MOUSSE is another foundation that people need to know about. One of the problems with Mally Beauty is that it’s hard to find – all the great places that carry the line only carry parts of Mally. This is only sold at Mally’s website and it’s worth it to shop there. The coverage with this mousse is perfection. I need so little but I could build it up if necessary. Plus it comes with a fabulous foundation brush that feels wonderful and works like a dream ($45*).
6.
GIORGIO ARMANI LUMINOUS SILK FOUNDATION – there are no words for this foundation. I’ve gone through 3 bottles since I started using it and I’m sure to go through more. It’s available in 23 shades and it’s worth every penny of the $62 cost to me. It’s weightless and oil-free and the coverage is like silk.
7.
RIMMEL LONDON LASTING FINISH FOUNDATION is the opposite in cost from Armani and not similar to it in finish, but it’s the best drugstore foundation I’ve ever bought. The problem with drugstores is being unable to test colors but I got lucky with O91 Light Ivory. At first I noticed a perfumey fragrance but once applied I noticed it for about 15 seconds and never again. If you are looking for great coverage to last through the day and you have $6.99 laying around, this is what to spend it on.
8.
GERI G INNOCENT FOUNDATION isn’t known at all. I just reviewed it again along with their Transceutical Canvas so I hope that this comes more to the forefront. It’s a medium coverage that can be built up. On the days I’m looking a little worse for the wear, I turn to this to make my skin look its best. The downside is that it only comes in 4 shades and the swatches on the website aren’t really helpful. ($38)
9.
BEAUTY BLENDER SPONGE is amazing. Don’t accept imitations. I don’t care that it’s $20 while others are much less, this is the one that works. It now comes in many colors like the new royal purple. The black one is called the Pro one but I don’t think it’s any different than my pink ones. Trust me when I tell you that this could change your makeup application.
10.
ARTIS OVAL 10 ELITE BRUSH* has become holy grail to me. It changes your paradigm about what a foundation brush is and you won’t want to look back. The softness, the bristles (2500 of them!), the ergonomics, and the luxuriousness of this $72 brush make it worth the high cost. If was told I could just take a few items out of my house this would be high up on the list. It’s that precious. Review here.

Makeup Wars – items that surprised me

This edition of Makeup Wars is all about items that surprised us. These could be winners, these could be losers, but they were all in the race since we’ve used them for our blogs and personal life. I’ve found quite a few products that I didn’t necessarily have high expectations of that have blown me away but unfortunately the opposite has been true too. I’m focusing on the positive because these have all broken through the finish line as winners.

Makeup Wars items that surprised me - Christie Brinkley skincare, Benefit Roller Lash mascara and Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation

Makeup Wars items that surprised me – Christie Brinkley skincare, Benefit Roller Lash mascara and Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation

CHRISTIE BRINKLEY AUTHENTIC SKINCARE is a skincare line that I turned down the first time it was offered to me. My perception was that as beautiful as Christie Brinkley is, that she’d probably slapped her name down on a line that offered to make her some money. I was totally wrong and now I’ve had the opportunity to try 4 of her products. These are all well thought out items that have performed beautifully for me. I want an anti-aging line considering I’m aging every day and not going backwards. I’ve found her products to be excellent especially the Recapture Day + IR Defense Anti-Aging Day Cream with Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen (that’s a mouthful) and Recapture 360 Night Anti-aging Night Treatment. These are luxurious without being outrageously priced. They are rich and provide the anti-aging benefits I look for.

RIMMEL LONDON LASTING FINISH 25 HR FOUNDATION was a recommendation by a friend who loves IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream as much as I do. I bought it because of her raves but I was sure it wouldn’t work for me and I’d return it. SURPRISE! I really like the foundation. I haven’t trusted drugstore foundation for a dozen years. I never found a color match, I rarely found one that I could tolerate the scent of and I didn’t find one that looked natural on my skin. Rimmel’s Lasting Finish has done all 3 of these for me in the right way. My color match is 091 Light Ivory, the fragrance disappears on my skin and I love the finish it gives me. It lasts all day with maybe a little more concealer if I’m going out. This is a great $7 surprise.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25 Hr. Foundation

Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25 Hr. Foundation

My last surprise is BENEFIT ROLLER LASH MASCARA. I haven’t liked many Benefit products unfortunately. I have a few that I’ve enjoyed like Fake Up Concealer and some I’ve hated like They’re Real, Push Up Liner so I was surprised that I even bought Roller Lash Mascara. I’m even more surprised how much I like this mascara. As with all mascaras the reviews were mixed but definitely more in favor of the mascara than not. I first bought Maybelline Lash Sensational because I had heard they gave a similar look and as much as I’m a fan of Lash Sensational, it’s a bear to remove. One day Roller Lash slipped into my shopping cart and arrived at my house. I put off wearing it thinking it was just another mascara. It’s not! It’s a SURPRISE! I really love the look of the mascara and how it wears. What do I get from this?

-Longer, defined lashes that have a great amount of volume

-Curl that lasts from morning through night

-Compliments galore on how great my lashes look (even when cringing in the chair at the oral surgeon)

-A mascara without flaking, clumping, or smudging

-A mascara that easily removes

Three surprises and four products that I can recommend buying and rebuying. I’m always in the mood for a good surprise and these products are just the things to do that.  Are any of these on your favorites list? — Marcia
