Youngblood completes my look with love

Youngblood Cosmetics  has learned how to win my heart. First they helped me this past summer with their Minerals in the Mist. I love sprays like this all year but in the summer I’m very dependent on them. Once I bought Youngblood’s I got through the summer much more easily.

Next they made me fall in love with their Gemstones eyeshadow palette. What a sleeper this palette is and what a wonderful combination of eyeshadows.  They didn’t stop there though. They created the most fabulous cream blushes that I just can’t get enough of. They’ve made me ignore all my other cream blushes lately.

Now they are back again to make my lips look beauteous!! With the lipstick called Pink Lust and the gloss called Embellished I need almost nothing else for my lip color to make me happy.

Youngblood Pink Lust lipstick

Youngblood Embellished lipgloss

Youngblood’s lip colors are divided into six color groups: Nude, Brown, Pink, Plum, Red and Sheer. With 23 lipstick shades to choose from you’ll easily find one you like. I have Pink Lust which is a perfect shade for me. I like light to medium shades on my lips and Pink Lust is right in that category. I actually was surprised to find it under the Sheer column since I think it’s very nicely pigmented. It’s got a glow to it that changes the color from a Barbie type pink to a peachy pink. Youngblood’s lipsticks are lanolin-free and being a mineral company they add in the best ingredients like Natural Oils, Minerals and Candelilla Wax in order to make moisturizing lipsticks with natural color.

Pink Lust

Pink Lust swatched

When I wear Pink Lust paired with Youngblood’s Tropical Glow Cream blush and Gemstones eyeshadow palette I have a complete look that I love. The only thing that could make it better is to up the glamour with a little gloss. That’s where Embellished lip gloss enters the picture. Embellished is listed under the Brown category but it’s actually a gorgeous gold shade. Not only does it enhance Pink Lust but it looks great over almost every lipstick I wear. Youngblood’s lipglosses aren’t sticky either. They are quite moisturizing due to the conditioning botanicals and vitamin E in the ingredients. Youngblood wants their glosses to moisturize, hydrate and protect lips and they’ve accomplished that goal. There 20 lipgloss shades to choose from (but I recommend Embellised since it looks great over any lipstick!!).

There are many reasons to love the Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics line and a big one I haven’t mentioned is that they are a cruelty free line with absolutely no animal testing. They don’t use oils, chemicals, alcohol, artificial fragrance or dyes in their products. With an ethos like that and products like I’ve tried, they will keep me coming back to them time and again. – Marcia

Marcelle skincare surprises and delights

As many times as I’ve walked into a Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada, I never realized that Marcelle carried skincare. I was so focused on seeing their cosmetic line that I never got beyond that. Now though I know that Marcelle makes a great skincare line at great prices. I’ve got two products from their line to share with you and I’ll tell you in advance that both are definitely recommended.

Essential 3 in 1 Cleanser from

Marcelle’s Essential 3 in 1 Cleanser ($14.50) has turned into a late night lifesaver for me. Most nights I’m very happy washing my face and doing my whole routine but some nights the idea of standing at the sink is just too much for me. That’s when I truly appreciate Essential 3 in 1 Cleanser even more. This is a wipe off cleanser that’s oil-free. I apply it with my fingers and then wipe it off with a cotton pad (I love DHC’s by the way). It takes off most of my eye makeup if I want it to. This cleanser is amazingly gentle. Whenever I’d use cleansing cloths I never really felt like my skin was cleansed properly but I feel differently about the way this takes off my makeup. I don’t need to wash after (though I have on occasion). It not only cleanses but it tones my skin leaving it soft and ready for the rest of my routine.

Marcelle Essential 3 in 1 Cleanser

I like the fact that it’s in a tube too. I can squeeze out the amount I want and not have to worry about something drying out because I don’t use it that often. Remove eye makeup, cleanse and tone all in one with this well priced cleanser!

Essential 3 in 1 Cleanser ingredients

Revival Firming + Brightening Cream Serum

I’ve also been using Marcelle’s Revival Firming + Brightening Cream Serum ($34.95). Marcelle makes a complete line of Revival products – day and night moisturizer, eye contour cream, brown spot corrector and this serum. The line has been specifically designed for women in their fifties who are menopausal or post-menopausal. The Firming + Brightening Cream Serum can be used in conjunction with Revival Intense Anti-Aging Day Care or used separately the way I’m using it.

Marcelle Revival Firming + Brightening Serum

I apply it on my freshly cleansed skin prior to moisturizer. It’s a medium textured white cream that smooths out to be clear. It doesn’t feel sticky on my face and it doesn’t interfere with foundation or Marcelle’s wonderful BB Cream.

drop of Firming + Brightening Serum

I like using it during the day (you can use it day and night if you like) because it helps with fine lines and wrinkles and every little bit helps! It also helps by firming and reducing the appearance of brown spots and uneven skintone. Sounds like a lot to ask of one product but it works. Its goal is to help with reinforcing your skin’s elasticity and helping it regenerate.

ingredients for Revival Firming + Brightening Serum

I realize not all Beauty Info Zone’s readers are at the stage that they’d need a skincare line that is formulated for women in the menopause years but when you get there, you’ll really appreciate the specialization of the line. For me it’s definitely a winner and working to help me fight the visual signs of aging.

Marcelle’s skincare is all hypo-allergenic and perfume free. The cleanser is also ophthalmologist tested. The prices are great; you get a lot for your money. Marcelle’s website sells all of their products, skincare and cosmetics. They send to the US and there’s free shipping with a $50 purchase (if you are in Canada free shipping is at $25). You can also find Marcelle in a variety of stores in Canada like SDM, Walmart, Loblaws etc. Whether you are young or old, Marcelle has products that work for your skincare needs. — Marcia

Fusion of Color – part 2

I’m back again with Fusion of Color.  This wonderful line has so much to offer that I needed two reviews to show you what I’m using from them. I’m going to tell you about some great lipglosses but I first need to start with a new line that Fusion of Color is creating. It’s called the Aura Line and it contains a bakers dozen of items. I’ve got the original that is the basis for the entire line:  Aura-Lusion Diamond Finish Powder.

unblended swatch

There’s something about this powder that’s slightly magical. With a name like “diamond finish” you’d expect to see some glimmer but that’s not what happens here. Instead you get a soft white (translucent) powder that magically seems to soften the lines on your face. They describe it as a look that’s almost air-brushed and I agree with that. It’s their version of a high-def powder.

image from

“This entrapped diamond complex manipulates incident light by converting invisible UV light to blue light (photoluminescence) and selectively scattering favorable blue and green light. The particles settle in the wrinkle and subtly illuminate a blue glow which decreases the appearance of wrinkles. This leads to youthful looking skin as the appearance of shadows, wrinkles, pigmentation and discolorations are diminished.”

The size you see in my picture is $9 or you can purchase a sample for $2. Larger sizes are available and once you see how velvety your face looks, you’ll want a larger size.

The Aura collection also has products like Aura Tint which are tinted versions of the diamond finish and two versions of Lusion Finishing Powders (sheer and more opaque).

I’ve got two lipglosses to share with you too. Ice Crystals Gloss ($13.85)  and Pink Crystals Gloss.  Fusion of Color has two packaging options for most of their glosses.

Ice Crystal and Pink Crystal

Ice Crystal wand

Ice Crystals Gloss is a clear gloss with sparkles. It’s the perfect accompaniment to any lip product you own. What I like best about it is that I can add it over a lip color I find too dark and it lightens and brightens it. I don’t end up with sparkle all over though. It’s packed tightly enough into the gloss to keep it on my lips. This is only available in the glass tube.

Devotion lipgloss with Ice Crystal over it

Pink Crystals is the pink version of Ice Crystals. It’s available in either of the packaging choices (glass wanded tube $9.00, 14 ml click up tube $14). It’s a very light pink that adds a cool tone to your lipsticks while Ice Crystals is more of a neutral. With Pink Crystals you can add a plumping component to your choice.

Pink Crystal

Pink Crystal swatch

There are other choices like a beautiful red gloss called Cupid Gloss and a sparkly red called Fuji Gloss.

example of click up tube and tops

You can see from my reviews that there are so many choices for Fusion of Color – size, packaging, colors and more. If you like to control what you have, if you like to test out products in smaller versions, or if you just like to know exactly what you are getting from a company that lays it all out there for you; then Fusion of Color is a brand for you.   — Marcia

Side by Side – Chella Mask reviews and a giveaway

The reason you need to know about Chella Skincare  is that they are experts in finding specialized solutions to our skincare concerns. They have a wonderful skincare line for our everyday needs as well but what really attracts Beauty Info Zone to this brand is their belief in fighting the signs of aging and targeting them with their products.

One of their specialities is restoring lackluster skin. We’ve noticed that when we use Chella’s Skin Firming Primer. Now we’re noticing it with two different masks they’ve created.

Lisa and Marcia both tested the Balancing Mask, Clay & Seaweed Treatment along with the Resurfacing Mask, Enzyme & Lactic Treatment. We enjoyed both of them and picked one each to review. This isn’t a “versus” review since there’s nothing but love here. Read our SIDES and then find out how you too can try these products.

Marcia’s side:

Chella Resurfacing Mask

I’m reviewing the Resurfacing Mask, Enzyme & Lactic Treatment ($60, 75 ml/2.5 oz) which acts more like a peel than a mask. It’s recommended that you use this once a week and I wouldn’t use it more often than that. The ingredients in it (lactic acid and protease enzymes) encourage cell turnover. Pro Vitamin B-5 helps restore elasticity and moisture.

I thoroughly cleanse my skin, then apply it to my face and neck (after pulling my hair into a ponytail). You can leave it on for 10 – 15 minutes. I started with 10 minutes to see how my skin would react and after a few times switched it up to 15 minutes. While it’s on my face it feels tingly. There’s a tiny fragrance to it but nothing that would be noticeable to most people. It doesn’t harden like you might expect with some masks. I wash it off and follow immediately with my moisturizer.

Chella Resurfacing Mask

Chella Resurfacing Mask

What I find is that my skin feels a little sensitive afterwards. It’s also a little red. I recommend you use this at night only because of this. I use my richest moisturizer since it feels so soothing after this mask. The next morning my face looks and feels glorious. It’s so incredibly smooth to the touch and it’s glowing (not red, just glowing). I make sure I don’t exfoliate the following day either since my skin is so fresh that it doesn’t need it.

Chella recommends using the Balancing Mask as a follow up but I actually prefer to use it the day before I use the Resurfacing Mask.   This is recommended for all skin types. If you are looking for a way to give new life to your dull skin, this mask is a must.

Lisa’s side:

Marcia, you are right on regarding the Resurfacing Mask.  It’s truly fabulous, and I love to alternate using it with the Balancing Mask Clay & Seaweed Treatment ($45).  I can’t pick my favorite between the two – they are terrific on their own, but I also think they play so well together it’s a true bonus if you have them both.

Chella Balancing Mask Clay & Seaweed Treatment

The Balancing Mask is a clay mask that sinks deep into your pores, clearing them out while also treating the skin with seaweed.  Seaweed hydrates the skin and helps increase it’s elasticity.  It’s so different from most clay masks that really dry out the skin,  I have never had a clay mask leave my skin feeling so soft and hydrated.

Because it really clears out the dirt and grime, it’s a wonderful prevention tool for breakouts.  But it works as ‘triage’ too – if you have some blemishes, put this on as a spot treatment at night and you will wake up blemish free, especially if you catch the blemishes right as they are forming.

Chella Balancing Mask - check out the clay goodness!

The Balancing Mask looks and feels very gentle compared to most clay masks.  It doesn’t have a strong astringent scent, and it doesn’t sting or make my skin feel sore or dry afterward.  I use this at night after cleansing.

Balancing Mask swatch

After I wash my face, I pat it dry so it’s still slightly moist, then smooth the mask on to my face and neck.  I leave it on for about 15 minutes then rinse with warm water.  My skin looks and feels extremely clean but also hydrated.  I follow that with serum and light moisturizer, and I’m ready for bed.

I use this mask once a week, and I use the Resurfacing Mask once a week.  You can use one right after the other for a real ‘spa’ treat, but I typically don’t have the time, so I use them on seperate days.  I think Chella has lots of great products, and the masks truly don’t disappoint.

Side by Side – The Organic Skin Co.

The Organic Skin Co. is a beautiful organic skin care line that has a fascinating history.  It actually goes all the way back six generations, about 150 years, when a woman named Gertrude Anderson created natural remedies in a small England town called Preston.  Her descendents have carried on her quest for the finest organic products ever since, and now their philosophy is to provide ethically produced, high quality organic skin care for every body.

Available online, people from all over the world can enjoy products that began with Gertrude’s first home remedies.  We tested two products, a facial exfoliant and a daytime moisturizer, and were pretty impressed.  Read on, and keep in mind that BIZ readers can use the code TOSC2M25 from now through February 29th to get 25% off two or more products!

Marcia’s side:

Brightening Almond Seed Face Exfoliant

I’m happy to say that I’ve been using The Organic Skin Co.’s Brightening Almond Seed Exfoliant ($29 NZD). This is one of the gentlest exfoliants I’ve had the pleasure of using. The ingredients in it are so pure because of The Organic Skin Co.’s method of farming and their strict environmental practices.

Here’s what I find with this exfoliant.  First it’s on the loose side. So many others are very stiff but Brightening Almond Seed Exfoliant is almost liquidy. I apply it to damp cleansed skin and gently massage it in. You can massage for however long you want since it’s so gentle that you aren’t going to overdo it. I then rinse it off and use my washcloth to make sure that I have removed all the product from my face.

drop on my hand

same drop blended

It’s slightly grainy from the almond seed but the grains are eensy weensy. There’s nothing rough about it that would tear any skin, even the most sensitive. The main ingredient is Aloe Vera so not only is this soothing for your skin but it heals skin inflammation. Aloe Vera stimulates new cell growth while at the same time moisturizes. Having Aloe Vera as the main ingredient (after water) is what’s so appealing to me for this product. The almond seed in the name is actually almond shell POWDER so you aren’t feeling the shells on your face. It’s actually the entire almond ground down after the oil has been extracted. In this exfoliant it binds and removes oils, dirt particles and perspiration from your skin. I do feel a little bit of grit so I know it’s working but there’s nothing harmful about it.

Ingredient list

I don’t find that this has any fragrance. Actually I was hoping for an almond fragrance but it’s better without. This way too I know there’s no artificial fragrance added. As far as brightening, you will notice that your skin looks brighter and fresher in a subtle way. The more often you use it, the more you’ll notice this too.

If you are looking for a wonderful organic line that has ethical practices then The Organic Skin Co. is one to check into. I definitely recommend the Brightening Almond Skin Exfoliant as your first try. — Marcia

Lisa’s Side:

I chose to test out The Organic Skin Co. Rosehip and Orange Moisturizer ($38.00 NZD).  This is billed as a day moisturizer, although it’s appropriate for night-time as well.  There is no SPF in it, so you need something separate for sun protection.

Right away I fell in love with the box, with its beautiful natural look that reminds me of Gwen Frostic’s art:

Then I opened the box and found it was even more charming that I had initially thought!!

The major ingredients in this creamy moisturizer include Rosehip, Sea Buckthorn, licorice, pomegranate, calendula, lemon peel, jojoba seed oil, shea nut, sweet orange, and Vitamin E.  This moisturizer helps to regenerate skin, and is very effective on scars and skin discoloration.  It’s also extremely hydrating, which helps to soften fine lines.

It comes in a tube, which is so much better than a tub.  And the germaphobe in me LOVED the way the top was completely sealed.

After you twist off the cap, you turn the cap over and push the it down on the sealed part, puncturing the tube.

Genius!!  And after you squeeze the tube for product, it retreats back into the tube so there’s no mess.

The moisturizer is very creamy and applies pretty wet.  After a minute or two it soaks in, and your skin is left feeling extremely hydrated and a little moist.  I find it doesn’t interfere with makeup application at all.  It smells faintly of citrus, which lingers for about ten minutes.

I really enjoyed this moisturizer.  It made my skin look great, and it didn’t break me out at all.  It’s actually one of my favorites and I highly recommend it.  Don’t get stuck thinking it’s just for day, it’s great for night especially since it doesn’t have any SPF.  – Lisa

NCLA Nail Lacquers – swatches and review

I love having new brands of nail polish. I especially love when I take my new polishes to my beauty salon and every person in the shop comes up to see how gorgeous they are. When I took myNCLA Nail Lacquers in, every nail tech, every hairdresser and every client were checking these out. I was terrified that my gorgeous NCLA Nail Lacquers ($16) would find their way into someone’s purse. That’s how much attention they attracted.

Everything about these is interesting – from the square bottle and caps to the tempting colors within. The company itself is interesting as their start was in fashion inspired nail wraps. They were inspired by the city of LA and the beautiful fashions around. From there they created their nail lacquers with this promise: “All our top of the line color formulas are 5 Free. No harmful carcinogens such as DBP, Toluene, Formaldehyde or Camphor. And nothing is tested on animals. Ever!”

NCLA nail lacquers

As beautiful as they are, they are just as fabulous to work with and wear. I’m able to share 4 different polishes with you with 3 different finishes.

West Hollywood It-Girl

West Hollywood It-Girl

NCLA West Hollywood It-Girl

West Hollywood It-Girl will knock your socks off. This burgundy cherry glitter is amazing. The base is clear, the cherry glitter creates the color. This needed 4 coats to be opaque on me but it was worth the extra time since the color is so striking. If it’s too bright for your nails then choose this for a pedicure since it will surely attract attention.

Mulholland Maneater

Mulholland Maneater

NCLA Mulholland Maneater

The best formula comes with NCLA’s crème polishes. Mulholland Maneater is an example of that. The color was basically opaque in 1 coat but with 2 coats it was absolutely perfect. The beautiful rich dark purple has a blue undertone. It applied like a dream. It was like it was applying itself.

NCLA Light Up the Night collection

Two of my beauties are in a set called the Light Up the Night Collection ($39): Hollywood & Vine Starlet and Bel-Air Trophy Wife. It also has LAX Jet Setter.

Hollywood & Vine Starlet

NCLA Hollywood & Vine Starlet

Hollywood & Vine Starlet is a black sparkle nail polish. The glitter in it is silver but the silver takes on colors when you are out in the sun. I wore this without starting with a black base coat so it took 3 coats to be opaque. Next time I’ll start with the black. Without a top coat it has a slightly rough finish which is typical with a glitter polish. Adding a top coat smoothes it out nicely but it’s not a glassy finish.

Bel-Air Trophy Wife

Bel-Air Trophy Wife

Bel-Air Trophy Wife

Bel-Air Trophy Wife is my favorite and the one I’ve been wearing for the last week. NCLa calls this a bronze metallic gold. My nail tech, my husband and I all described it as a dark champagne. However it’s described, it’s fabulous. Because it’s a metallic it could be streaky but I didn’t find that at all. It did show some imperfections on one nail that wasn’t as smooth as my others but no one other than me noticed it. The metallic finish gives it a burnished look. I will wear this polish in any season since it fits them all.

This is the perfect time to invest in NCLA polishes since they are 20% off with the code VALENTINE20. There is also a contest going on to win the Light Up the Night Collection but you’d need to enter on their website by Feb. 9th so hurry!

Win these or buy these, if you love polish then you want this brand. These are as wonderful as the true stars you’d see in LA. — Marcia

Side by Side – YBF Skincare, Antioxidants Concentrate and Control

The “YBF” in YBF Skincare stands for ‘Your Best Face’, something that Lisa and Marcia completely agree this line will give you.  They first wrote about YBF Skincare here, and they have been happily exploring more of this line ever since.  Today, the girls of the BIZ will share with you some current favorites that have become welcome additions to their skin care routines.

Lisa’s Side:

There are many products from the YBF line that I absolutely adore, and one of my favorites is the antioxidants concentrate ($55).  Why?  Because you can use this with so many things.  It’s a product that gives your other products an extra ‘oomph’ and allows you to customize your skin routine.

YBF antioxidants concentrate

Antioxidants concentrate is full of, guess what, antioxidants!!  These help fight free radicals, which cause the skin to age.  It’s a lightweight moisturizer that can be used on its own or mixed with other products.  The ingredients include Ferulic Acid, which fights free radicals created by UV exposure; Spin Trap, which actually prevents damage by stabilizing free radicals; Lipochroman-6, which protects against 2 different types of free radicals; and Vitamin E, which not only fights free radicals it also helps the other ingredients be even more effective.

antioxidants concentrate swatch

As you can see from the swatch above, it’s a creamy but thin moisturizer.  It’s great used by itself, but what I love to do is mix it with my other products.  I mix it with my serums, my moisturizers, my hand lotion, and my body lotion.  I always use it with my neck cream to help repair that area that is constantly exposed to the sun.  I pretty much use it with everything except cleanser, and I love how it gives more kick to all my other products.  I have a real thing for ‘multi-taskers’, so this product is like a dream come true for me.

 Marcia’s Side:

While I hate to admit I want skincare that that is a wrinkle fighter, I’m willing to do it since it means I can introduce you to YBF control. YBF Skincare is a brand I love and trust. The ingredients in each product are lovingly selected to be the best in anti-oxidants, anti-aging and skin brightening. Not only does CONTROL work to make sure I’m keeping those wrinkles at bay, it also works on the sun damage that my skin has from all the years I didn’t know better. Since my hands have sun damage I’m using YBF Control on the backs of my hands now too.

CONTROLworks on 3 areas: wrinkles, sun damage repair and rejuvenation. Thank goodness I don’t have deep wrinkles but I really want to keep it that way. I’m very observant about people’s complexions and I guess I compare mine a little too much. But when I see someone my age or younger with deep wrinkles I want to rush up and offer them the solution. Of course then I’d be arrested and they wouldn’t let me take CONTROL to my cell with me.

drop of YBF Control

Control uses the latest wrinkle fighting peptides (Snap-8 and Leuphasyl) to help reduce expression lines. Even without wrinkles we all have expression lines. They also use Syn-Tacks and Matrixyl 3000 to improve smoothness. Other ingredients like spin trap, Lipochroman-6, idebenone, alpha lipoic acid and vitamins E and stable vitamin C work on the damage already done to our skin by the sun and elements.

One of my favorite things about CONTROL is the fragrance. I’m an admitted fragrance-phobe but this smells like almonds so it’s like having a little drink of Amaretto on my face. The fragrance doesn’t last long but it’s so pleasant to apply. I need just the tiniest amount of this light orange gel for my entire face and allow it to sink in before applying any other product. It can feel a little tacky if you apply anything else too quickly. Once it’s on I know my face is being protected and I can pretend I’m young again! — Marcia
