PopSugar Must Have November 2015

PopSugar Must Have November 2015

The theme of the November PopSugar Must Have subscription is

  • Friends & Family
  • Gratitude
  • Gifting
  • Festivities

There are so many items for November that will make great gifts, whether you are self-gifting or have friends and family that would enjoy some. I certainly am getting my money’s worth with this PopSugar Must Have box.

For my sister:  DEEPA GURNANI Katie Crystal Headband ($56).

Deepa Gurnani Katie Crystal Headband

Since this is a gift it’s still in the package. As much as I love this beautiful headband I rarely wear them but my sister does and this will be gorgeous on her. She often has to work early and needs a way to beautify her hair quickly and this stunning crystal headband will make a great gift for her. This is handcrafted in India and the detailing is perfect. The backside is made of material that will help keep it from slipping around.

For my older son: WEST EMORY BINGO SET ($20)

This is the most elegant Bingo set I’ve ever seen. The cards are quite big and on heavy cardstock and the bingo markers are on silver cardstock. Everything about this particular game speaks adult and speaks quality. My son and his wife are big entertainers and always have people over. Games are a big part of their fun (especially once the wine and beer start flowing) and this coffee table game will be a big hit with him.

For my other son: TERRAPIN RIDGE FARMS Pecan Honey Mustard ($6)

Terrapin Ridge Farms Pecan Honey Mustard

This is my son who does all the cooking for his family. While my grandchildren wouldn’t go near anything made with this I know that this will be a great addition to his cooking repertoire. Since this is fat free (and gluten free) and that’s his number one criteria, I think he’ll enjoy this as part of his holiday gift.

For my sister-in-law: TARTE COSMETICS BEAUTY & THE BOX EYE SHADOW in Apple of My Eye ($22)

This new eyeshadow palette is part of a collection that Tarte is coming out with. My SIL is always amazed at the amount of makeup I have so it’s time to share. With these beautiful neutral shades from a cruelty free company this will definitely become the apple of her eyes.

For me: GRAMR GRATITUDE CO. Exclusive Thanksgiving Postcard Pack ($10)

Gramr Gratitude Co. Thanksgiving Postcard Pack

This is a set of 5 large postcards with a Thanksgiving theme although several can be used any time. I’ve already used one to include in a gift and have plans for a second. These are really well made and unlike a souvenir postcard. What’s really a positive about buying from Gramr Gratitude is their giving back policy.

Hostess gift (or maybe just for me) CAPRI BLUE MERCURY JEWEL BOX in Rain ($18.95)

Capri Blue Mercury Jewel Box in Rain

Capri Blue Mercury Jewel Box in Rain

This was the teaser for the November box. The candle from Capri Blue Candles is made from handblown recycled glass. Each box will be slightly different depending on the manufacturing of the glass. The top is made of recycled wood making this quite unusual.

I’m not a candle person but I’m oddly drawn to this. It smells mild and it becomes a keepsake box once you’ve burned the candle. Because of the imperfections of it being handmade I’m not sure if my holiday hostess will think I dragged this out of a closet for regifting which is why I’m on the fence about gifting this. But whoever ends up with it will surely enjoy it.

PopSugar Must Have November 2015 subscription

PopSugar Must Have November 2015 subscription

I had decided to give myself three months with PopSugar Must Have before deciding whether or not to continue. With a value of $133 for my $39.95 investment I think I came out ahead of the game so December’s box will be mine too. I love surprises and as long as they are items I can use or gift then it’s a fun box to get in the mail. Have you considered buying this subscription? Do you think it’s worth the money? — Marcia

The PopSugar October box contains just treats, no tricks

popsugar oct

Now here’s a box of goodness all from my subscription to PopSugar Must Have! Last month I gave you the lowdown on my return to PopSugar after about a year away from it. I missed the box and decided to try it for a 3 month period at which time I’ll reevaluate whether to continue. So far PopSugar Must have is batting about 75% as I loved last month’s box and I like this month’s box (though not quite as much).

PopSugar Must Have is a lifestyle box and not a beauty box. There’s a little bit of everything to make your life more complete. “What Inspired us for October? — Autumn, Restless Nights, Cozy, Irresistible, Breast Cancer Awareness”

Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling (PopSugar October 2015)

Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling was the teaser for the October 2015 box. While I’ve never (gasp) watched Mindy Kaling on TV I certainly know a lot about her because I’m an avid magazine reader. The book looks fun and interesting, I’d never have picked it up on my own so I guess this will broaden my horizons a bit. The book retails for $25 but on Amazon it sells for $15 for hardcover and $12.99 for an ebook.

Savvy Sleeps Luxury Satin Pillowcase (PopSugar October 2015)

Savvy Sleeps Luxury Satin Pillowcase (PopSugar October 2015)

Savvy Sleepers, Luxury Satin Pillowcase is the first item I saw when opening the box since it was lying on top. A satin pillowcase is definitely a luxury item since they are pretty expensive. It’s also indirectly a beauty item as it helps prevent sleep wrinkles and protects your hair from breakage and ruining your style. I’m a restless sleeper and wake up with my hair all over the place but once a month I go for color and a blowout so this will get used on good hair days like that. This one is 100% satin and not a satin feel-alike. What’s unique about this pillowcase is that it has a secret pocket in it that you could use for aromatherapy or a stick a love note in for your sweetie. At $36 for just one it’s a nice treat all right.

To go along with your perfect night’s sleep, here are a pair of Richer Poorer slipper socks designed by PopSugar to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. ($15)

  • Soft Fluffy Microfiber Material.
  • Non-Slip Silicon Grips on bottom of footbed.
  • Designed in support for the charity Right Action For Women.
  • Perfect for wearing when lounging around at home.

Easy Tiger, Brown Paper Liquor Bag Set (PopSugar October 2015)

Easy Tiger, Brown Paper Liquor Bag Set (PopSugar October 2015)

Easy Tiger comes from cardsforawesomepeople.com and they have some great items. Included in the October Box is a set of 4 paper bags that will fit a wine or liquor bottle with ease. With Thanksgiving and the winter holidays coming up these will come in very handy. This set of 4 bags is worth $8 since each bag is sold separately for $2 each. They even have one available for your beer buddies.

The Honest Company Sea Salt + Sugar Body Scrub

The Honest Company Sea Salt + Sugar Body Scrub

The Honest Company Sea Salt + Sugar Body Scrub

The Honest Company Sea Salt + Sugar Body Scrub

The Honest Company Sea Salt + Sugar Body Scrub ($16.95) is the first of two beauty products. I’ve bought cute diapers from The Honest Company but nothing else. This contains whole grain sugars and sea salts to exfoliate and shea butter and almond oils to hydrate. It sounds pretty great but the problem for me is that this is Lavender Vanilla and I really don’t like anything with lavender. I’m sad about that and I’m tempted to try it anyway but it will make a great gift for a friend. Unfortunately it’s the only fragrance that’s available.

  • Whole grain sugars and mineral rich Pacific sea salt provide gentle, yet deep exfoliation
  • Vanilla and lavender essential oils provide heavenly relaxation and a delightful indulgence for body and mind
  • Ultra hydrating shea butter and sweet almond oil deeply condition for silky softness
  • Leaves skin beautifully polished, hydrated, and glowing
  • All Natural • Mineral and Sugar Exfoliants • Hypoallergenic • Enriching
It's a 10 Miracle Leave-in Protect

It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-in Protect

It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product is one of the first leave in conditioners I ever used. I remember when my hairdresser recommended it. I used it for a long time but didn’t replace it after I started trying so many brands of haircare. This particular size is 2 oz which will be great for travel especially. It will be interesting to see if it works as well as I remember it did. According to PopSugar this retails for $11.96 but you can find it for $8 for this size or about $14 for the 4 oz size.

Belgian Boys De Stroopwafel

Belgian Boys De Stroopwafel

It wouldn’t be a PopSugar Must Have Box without something good to eat. Last month I discovered the delicious Nourish Snacks and this month they send Belgian Boys De Stroopwafel caramel filled crispy cookies. I’m amazed actually that I got a picture of this because my grandson was enamored with these. He had these in his hand for hours – and he won! I did get a bite but that’s about all he shared with me of these amazing cookies. I hope I can find them locally; if I do I’ll hide them. (value $1.59).popsugar oct cardRight Action for Women was established by Christina Applegate after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She wanted to encourage young women to understand how important it is to have breast cancer screening and to provide assistance to those in need.

A monthly subscription to PopSugar Must Have is $39.95. This month’s box is worth $125 (or $110 with the lower prices). In addition to the products there’s a $40 gift card to DanielleStevens.com to purchase something BUT there isn’t anything they carry that’s in that price range so I’m not counting it as part of the value. My money was well spent since I’ve made my little guy happy, I’ve got things I’ll enjoy and I have a few gifts to give. Not bad. I can’t wait to see what November brings. I know for sure there’s an eyeshadow palette.

What brought me back to POPSugar Must Have?

After about 18 months of buying the POPSUGAR MUST HAVE Subscription box in 2012 and 2013 (reviews here) I decided it was time to move on. The items were always quality ones and I certainly got more than my money’s worth from the subscription but I realized I was keeping 1/3 and giving away 2/3 of the box so I decided to go on a hiatus. But I’m back and going to give it a few months to see whether the boxes changed and/or my taste changed. I started with the September box after seeing their teaser:

Too Faced Brow Envy Kit

Too Faced Brow Envy Kit

PopSugar Must Have sells for $39.95 and the Too Faced Brow Envy Brow Shaping & Defining Kit is $39. That meant I could try a new product plus whatever goodies would be in the subscription and come out ahead. I know that PopSugar only sends full size items that are from great companies so I had nothing to lose. Did it meet my expectations??

PopSugar Must Have for September 2015

PopSugar Must Have for September 2015

PopSugar takes inspiration from the latest fashions and fads when putting together a box. All boxes are the same and they are a blast to open. I try not to read other reviews because I love the surprises inside. September’s box turned out to have a value of $156. Let’s take a peek:

TOO FACED BROW ENVY SHAPING & DEFINING KIT ($39) This is a one size fits all kit. I’ve become brow obsessed in the last year after realizing that my brows are beyond sparse. The kit is interesting but far from perfect. It contains setting wax, a cream highlighter, blonde powder and brunette powder. There’s also a set of mini tools (brush, spoolie, tweezers) along with 3 eyebrow stencils and directions.

I am not a fan of stencils though I have used them on occasion. I always feel I need a third hand to hold them in place while my real hands do the work. Plus it’s hard to get them to match my brow shape. That said I know some people who need to start from scratch so these can be extremely helpful for them. While my swatches are quite light, the powders apply much better on my eyebrows since they have something to grab onto and a brown base. This won’t take the place of my Pixi brow favorites but it’s a good kit for on the go.

ncLA SO RICH VITAMIN-E ENRICHED CUTICLE OIL ($18) is close to perfect for a subscription box like this. There’s no worrying if you get a color you don’t like or can’t wear (glitters for me) because this works for everyone. Other than nail bloggers I’m willing to guess that most of us don’t take care of our cuticles like we should. This conditioning oil goes a long way and it smells so yummy. When I get my nails manicured I have about a minute with a cuticle oil on so having this is a nice touch.

BRIOGEO ROSARCO MILK REPARATIVE LEAVE-IN CONDITIONING SPRAY ($20)  is a leave in conditioner that’s different than the ones I have. First of all, it really looks and feels like milk. It’s not the least bit sticky. While it’s a thin consistency you don’t need as much as you’d first think because it’s loaded with amazing ingredients that will help protect your hair from heat and the elements. It contains an antioxidant rich milky blend and nutrient packed argan, rose hip, and coconut oils. I remember when my blog partner Lisa reviewed Brigeo and fell in love with the brand. Now I can too.

So far we’ve hit a triple with three great products. Let’s see if the others can score a run for the home team! Next onto travel, fashion and food!

KRIS NATIONS “XO” STUD EARRINGS ($35) are the cutest earrings I’ve seen. XO of course means hugs and kisses and that’s what these will do to your ears. The packaging is great – they come in the cutest cork topped bottle. I love mini items. The only bad news about these recycled brass & plated with 14k gold earrings is that I don’t have pierced ears. Boo hoo. I’d wear these in a minute but my once pierced ears have closed up after I had an allergic reaction to metals.

One of my favorite items in the box is the HUDSON+BLEEKER LABYRINTH ONYX TRAVEL TRIO ($42). It’s TSA perfect. There’s a see through cosmetic bag big enough to hold a good amount of treasures along with 2 14″X12″ silky drawstring bags to hold things like your intimates and shoes in your luggage. These are so well made and so handy. They fold up easily back into the travel case to store until you need them again. I can see using these at home too for your “special” intimates that you don’t want co-mingling with the reggies.

Yes ladies and gents, we’ve scored! The only thing I can’t use are the adorable earrings but I’m sure they’ll find a home with one of my daughter-in-laws. To celebrate …. let’s eat!

NOURISH SNACKS ALMOND TO CHERRIES ($2 for 1.4 oz) is an absolutely delish snack that is totally my taste. Their website is loaded with mouth watering products that are gluten free, dairy free, GMO free and vegetarian. They were founded by Joy Bauer, the Today Show’s nutritionist. I need these to carry around with me to stop my cravings!
