Tips and toes and in between with Tweezerman and Alessandro

Tweezerman and Alessandro

It’s particularly nice to come home to a package from a brand you love and have been using for dozens of years. When Tweezerman sent a package with their brand and some Alessandro products I didn’t know what to use first. All of these are pretty amazing.

My most used product is the PRECISION FOLDING BROW RAZOR ($12.00) which is available in both black and lavender. (Yea for lavender). At first I thought this was like my wonderful folding eyelash comb from Tweezerman until I realized that one side is a wire covered razor. This is a great tool to clean up above your brows and I also have used it on my upper lip to get those stubborn ‘stach’ hairs. Since it’s so portable it’s easy to stick in a makeup bag and have with me for emergencies. This is a very gentle razor, you’re not going to cut yourself on it. Plus I don’t need a 10X magnifying mirror to use it.

Since I’m obsessed with my nails I was very pleased to see the NEON HOT 4-IN-1 FILE, BUFF, SMOOTH & SHINE BLOCK ($10) which is great for at home manicures. This block will last you forever since it has 4 replacement pads for each side. Changing pads is easy since you peel off the old side and stick on a new one on. This block is great because of its gentleness. Sometimes my nails just need to breathe so I remove my polish, buff them and let them look natural for a day or so before my manicure.

ALESSANDRO PEDIX FEET ONE MINUTE PEDICURE ($25) is the product you need for your at home spa day. You can save a lot of money by using this exfoliating foot scrub on yourself. This is made up of sea salt and essential oils. It’s a very subtle aromatic scent that reminds me of the one my nail tech uses. I have a bench in my shower so I sit and rub this on, until it melts gently away. It’s a little slippery after so be sure you have a washcloth to make sure it’s all off. Your feet will feel so much smoother and look a whole lot better. I find this is gentle enough to use several times a week. It’s good for my ankles as well as my tootsies.

ALESSANDRO NEON PINK NAIL POLISH ($9.50) is my first experience with this offshoot of Tweezerman and it won’t be my last. I actually was surprised when I saw the name was Neon Pink since it’s softer than what my mind thinks a neon polish looks like. It’s just this pretty pink that dried super fast and had great shine. While it looked thin in the bottle, the second coat leveled it out perfectly and made it opaque. I made it through a week without any changes in the polish. Since this has a UV Absorber I think that’s why it doesn’t fade at all.  With 99 colors I won’t have trouble finding more.

Last is a tool that still confounds me. TWEEZERMAN SMOOTH FINISH FACIAL HAIR REMOVER ($20) is absolutely fascinating if you have a lot of facial hair and don’t want to have a lot of facial hair. At the same time it’s a bit scary. It has a spiral spring that grabs the hair by the root to remove it. At the side, just above the red handle there are rotating handles to move to get the hairs.

Place the flatter side of the coil tip against the skin”.tweezerman facial hair remover 2  Step two says “Rotate the silver knobs on each side of the handles in the direction the arrows are pointing, enabling the coils to directly grab the hair from the root to remove it.”tweezerman facial hair remover 3  Step 3 says “Gently move the tool away from the area and repeat on other areas as needed.”

I tend to shy away from this at times. Where I have the most hair is obviously where I need it but when it starts to hurt I pull away. I wish I had someone to do this to me and make me sit still. I think once I got really used to it that I’d use it more. I’ve tried so many hair removal methods and this is an inexpensive one that I think will work on those who aren’t squeamish about pain.

All in all I’m thrilled with these products. I’m covered head to toe and in between with at home items from both Tweezerman and Alessandro. I even have a mini Tweezerman tweezers that was in the Facial Hair Remover package. I’m a tried and true fan of Tweezerman tweezers and now I have more to love.

Which of these do you need in your arsenal of goodies? — Marcia

Get pretty feet for summer with Emjoi Micro-Pedi Nano Callus Remover

I sort of dread sandal season. I typically get monthly pedicures, but while my feet look great afterward they quickly devolve into something I’d rather hide with regular shoes. When Emjoi sent us their Micro-Pedi Nano Callus Remover ($24.95), I jumped at the chance to possibly end my boycott of open-ended footwear.

Emjoi Micro-Pedi Nano Callus Remover

The Nano is a small foot buffer with a lot of power. Here are some of its selling points:

  • Ground-breaking device takes the chore out of smoothing skin on the feet
  • Gently and effectively buffs away dead, calloused, hard and dry skin in seconds
  • Unique roller with micro mineral particles pulverizes dead skin in an instant
  • Safer and more effective than metal scrapers, which uses blades to cut the skin
  • Easier to use than the other methods, that require constant rubbing
  • All Micro-Pedi Refill Rollers are compatible with all Micro-Pedi models
  • Battery-operated (2AA not included)

Love the small size of the Emjoi Nano

Easy to operate!

I find that the Nano safely and quickly turns calluses into dust. Thanks to the Nano, the cracks on my heels have completely disappeared. I love the small size, which is both portable and discreet. It runs on two AA batteries so there is no plugging in or charging. The roller has a very fine grain so even those with very sensitive feet should be able to use it. Once the roller wears down it’s no problem, refill rollers are available for purchase.

It is extremely easy to use. Just turn on the device and the roller spins quickly – specifically 30 times a second. You sort of sand-blast rough areas, and it only takes about a minute per foot to get soft and smooth skin. Definitely do this over a towel because the dead skin becomes a fine dust. It does a great job of making those calluses disappear without leaving feet raw or sensitive. A quick tip – make sure your feet are completely dry before using the Nano. It doesn’t have the same effect on damp skin.

With pedicures in my area running anywhere from $40 to $100, substitute the Nano and this baby pays for itself within a month. If you get regular pedicures, this is a great way to keep feet maintained in between visits.

The Emjoi Micro-Pedi Nano Callus Remover gets a big thumbs up from me. A few minutes twice a week is all it takes for me to put on sandals without a second thought.  – Lisa

New feet with Nupeel

Last month, I went for a much needed pedicure. The part that usually takes the longest for me, and is often rather painful, is the exfoliating.  my feet seem particularly susceptible to dead, dry, scaly skin. For this pedicure, the manicurist used NuPeel Natural Body Peeling Gel ($55), and I was truly impressed as the exfoliation only took about five minutes!! She smoothed on a light layer of this gel-like substance, gave it a few moments to sink in, and then buffed it off with a file. I couldn’t believe it. So she put a tiny dab on the top part of my hand, had me wait a few seconds, and then told me to start lightly rubbing it with my finger. I did, and my goodness, balls of dead skin started forming!! My dead, dry skin just rolled right off. I was so amazed I bought a tube for myself right then and there. The gal told me she thought NuPeel could only be found in salons, but I did find it online.

Here is what the website says:

Pamper yourself. Indulge in smooth, supple skin. Nupeel® Natural Body Peeling Gel naturally and instantly stimulates exfoliation of rough dry skin. Most exfoliants rely upon abrasives to scrub dead skin cells away. Nupeel Natural Body Peeling Gel relies upon natural enzymes like papain and carica papaya extracts to gently loosen dead skin leaving behind soft, smooth, pliable skin. The possibilities for use are endless. Nupeel may be used on the backs of arms, elbows, feet and even legs to eliminate flaking after shaving. And, it is a favorite step in manicures and pedicures.”

When I use this at home, here’s what the experience is like: I put a light layer of the gel on my hands/feet/elbows, and it feels slightly rubbery, very slippery. I rub this for about a minute, and suddenly the texture changes to almost a watery consistency. At that point, the skin starts rolling off into little balls. I am either leaning over the sink or else a trash can to catch the falling balls of skin, which continue to fall for about a minute or two as I keep rubbing the area. Then, I rinse with water, dry, and put on my favorite lotion, and my skin is buttery soft.

You can use this product on your feet, your hands, your elbows; anywhere you have excess dry skin. While you can use a file on your feet, it isn’t necessary. When I use this product on my hands, the dry skin just rolls right off, and you don’t need any other tools. I do find that it works best after a shower while your skin is very soft, but it also works great at any other time. One other caution, if you use a file on your feet, be careful not to remove too much skin as it is easy to get carried away! – Lisa

My Contest Winnings – thanks Mary!

In June, Mary from one of my most favorite blogs Body and Soul ran a little contest in honor of her birthday.  I was stunned and amazed to find out later that I was the winner!!  So, another happy birthday wish to Mary, and here are the really fabulous items I won:

Everything in the box was birthday themed.  First, there was a great Birthday Girl Set from Philosopy.

Inside I found Amazing Grace Shower Gel, Purity Made Simple face cleanser, Time on Your Hands hand cream, Soul Owner exfoliating face cream, and Vanilla Birthday Cake lip shine.  There was also a card that said, ‘if tomorrow never comes, what do you ‘wish’ you would have done with your time here on planet earth?  may we suggest you begin fulfilling your ‘wishes’ now.’

Next I found four great OPI items:  Espresso Scrub, two Espresso Soaks, and Cappuccino Massage.  They smell DIVINE, I can’t wait to treat myself to a nice long pedicure!!  And when I do, I will have lots of new nail polishes to choose from:The shades from left to right are:  OPI Japanese Rose Garden, a gorgeous cool-toned creme pink; OPI Birthday Babe, a frosty silver that will look great with my faux summer tan; Lippman Collection Happy Birthday, a super fun clear color with different colors and sizes of confetti.  I had to put this one on right away:

I see green, pink,  silver, gold, red, light blue and dark blue confetti.  It’s going to be a blast finding different ways to use this polish!!  Next in the lineup above is OPI 20 Candles on My Cake, a gorgeous warm creme red (and my hubby’s favorite); and then OPI Pearl of Wisdom, a truly amazing iridescent pink that seems to flash other colors as well, depending on the light.  I love it.

Thank you again Mary, this was just a terrific collection of great birthday-themed items!!  – Lisa

Fancy Feet for Summer – and another contest!

Every other week, my daughters and I play ‘spa’.  This means I get an amazing foot rub and pedicure, and so do they!  It’s so much fun picking out our colors, then pampering each other.  I always make sure I have the best products on hand for us to treat one another, and what better way to get your feet into shape for summer than with some fabulous foot files and then some bling??

I feel the best files out there are from DiamancelI am so impressed with their products – they are such high quality, and they actually deliver on every single promise.  I think that when it comes to nail files, it really doesn’t pay to skimp – buy cheap files, and you will end up buying lots of them.  Buy high quality ones, and you only need to make that investment one time.  For fabulous summer feet, I recommend these three files:

Diamond File for Foot Calluses ($38.00)I don’t know about you, but I get calluses on my feet – mostly on my toes, which are long so they often rub up against my shoes, creating small calluses that are anything but attractive.  This particular file is like magic for erasing those calluses.  Just a few swipes and the calluses are gone – no pain, no effort.  Seriously.  If you have calluses you HAVE to try this one out.

Genuine Diamond Foot Buffer ($49.00). I have tried so many foot buffers.  Usually I find most buffers work best wet, but not this one.  You use this buffer dry, and it does a fantastic job of getting rid of excess skin and dryness.

Flexible Diamond Nail File ($30.00): Of course, once you get your feet looking amazing, you also need to file those nails.  The Flexible Diamond nail File is the best nail file I have ever come across.  It isn’t a hard metal, it bends, which makes it really terrific for those toe nails.  It files to perfection, no snags or rough edges.  Totally worth the investment.  They have great ones for fingernails, and then a specific one – the #3 – is for toe nails.

And then, how about a little bling to fancy up those toes? Nailene has some super fun and very affordable collections for nails.  My daughters absolutely love the full cover nails, they look very real and are so easy to apply.  They even have full cover toenails, called Perfect Toes ($5.95), which result in an instant French pedicure!

The Perfect Toes set comes complete with 24 toe nails, nail glue, and some super cool nail art – flowers of different sizes and colors, silver, pink, and red.  Too cute!!  I was a little hesitant to try these – my experiences with press on nails have not been positive.  But these went on so easily, and they look totally real.  There are quite a few nail sizes to choose from, I had no problem finding the right size for each of my toe nails.  They stay for days, and if one pops off, it’s super easy to glue it right back on.  They were very comfortable and they look great.

What my daughters REALLY love – and I do too – are the nail art sets called Bedazzle. These are great for finger nails, toe nails, natural nails and fake ones too.

Earth Angel ($1.49) has flowers, butterflies, and letters of the alphabet.

Superstar ($1.49) has flowers, stars, and butterflies.

They are so easy to apply – just peel what you want off the sheet, and stick them to your nails.  I found that with the toenails, it was easiest to apply the stickers first, then glue the nail on to your toe.  To really make the stickers last, just put a quick clear topcoat over them.

I did a VERY quick pedicure on myself – honestly this took me five minutes at the most.  I am totally not artsy-crafty, but they were super easy to apply.  The placement of the stickers is not the best – I was trying to make them easy to see in a photo, so they are too far into the middle of the nail. But you get the idea, and you can be very creative with all the designs they offer.  Can you believe how natural those toenails look?  And honestly they look even better in person.  I went to the dentist today, and both of the women who were working on me commented on how great my pedicure looked – and I had applied the nails about a week ago!

Nailene was great enough to send us some products for a contest.  How about a set of 24 So Natural French Tip Nails, a Skinny French Tip Pen set, and an Ultra Quick Brush-On Gel Kit?  Any of our active subscribers can enter, just leave a comment on this post about what your favorite type of pedicure is for the summer – french nails?  Bright colors?  Au naturale?  Do you have them done professionally or do them yourself? The contest will last for one week, ending Friday June 25th at 11:59 P.M. EST. The winner will be announced on the BIZ on June 26th and will have 4 days to email us with their address to [email protected]. – Lisa
