Ole Henriksen Nurture Me Cleansing Cloths

I try really hard to be good to my skin. I make it a priority to wash, treat, and moisturize every morning and night. At least once a week I do a deep exfoliation or some sort of mask. But there are some days when I am just too tired…or too sick…or, I admit it, too lazy to do my normal skin care routing. That’s when I reach for my Ole Henriksen nurture me™ cleansing cloths ($9). One cleansing cloth and my skin is cleansed of all makeup, as well as moisturized with Moringa Seed Oil and Borage Seed Oil. I can go to sleep knowing that while I may have skipped all of my fancy treatments, my skin won’t be clogged and nasty when I wake up.

Makeup Wars goes traveling

A year ago the Makeup Wars bloggers took on Travel and we decided to do it again this year. Knowing what to pack and how much to pack is something that always drives us crazy. The men in our lives mostly throw a few things in a Dopp kit and don’t think twice. But women worry and fret over what we can or can not live without for however many days we are gone.

My needs haven’t changed much in the last year but there are a few things that I talked about back then that I’m totally grateful to have for travel and a few that I’ve added. Places like 3floz.com are wonderful to find travel size items and even Sephora has value sets and some travel size products. I love using my Sephora points for deluxe samples that I’ve wanted to try or love enough to take traveling.

My favorite makeup bag is the one I have from Hold Me. I don’t use it on an everyday basis because I’m the type that “saves” things. Instead this is going on a trip with me. They now make it in 3 sizes instead of just the ‘baby’ and full size. They added in Mama Bear too. These are sturdy, elegant, and hold an amazing amount of products and brushes. All my makeup is stored in my Hold Me bag now when I travel.

I collect skincare in travel sizes, most of which I’ve gotten through subscriptions like Glossybox and IPSY. I don’t always love the samples in these but I’m a subscription box junkie and I always find something I love in each box.

Balance Me Body Wash

I also have bought a lot from Algenist during their site’s sales. If you subscribe to their website you’ll get offers from them for special sets or discounts. My best buy was when they had 40% off and free shipping. That’s when I really shopped and bought cleanser, mini eye creams, and moisturizers. I know that Algenist agrees with my skin so it’s a great travel choice.

I like to take some wipes with me and the Ole Henriksen Truth to Go Wipes are small and perfect for a short trip.

The hardest thing to pack is for my hair. What if it frizzes? What if it falls totally flat? What if a million things that can go wrong. I’m counting on two things seen in my collage – an Aquis hair towel, GoToob containers and John Frieda’s Hot Air brush.

I like to bring the shampoo and conditioner that I’m using at the time of my trip so containers like these cute GoToob’s are excellent. I fill them with whatever I’m using, use them on the trip and then finish up what’s left when I get home. Then they are ready for to be refilled. These happen to be very sturdy and so far I haven’t had spillage like I’ve had with less expensive plastic containers. These have a large opening so it’s easy for me to pour in my product.

Go Toob 3 oz

Go Toob 3 oz

My hair dries super slow. It retains water therefore a normal towel does nothing. I know not to rub my hair so I like to make a turban out of my Aquis hair towel and give it some drying time. There are other brands of this kind of towel but I’ve had mine for a dozen years and I take it on every trip and use it whenever I wash my hair.

Last on this long list is my John Frieda Hot Air Brush. I never used to be able to travel without a big heavy duty hair dryer, several brushes and my flat iron. The hotel dryers didn’t work on my hair. Now though I can travel with just the Aquis towel, a comb and this Hot Air Brush. The wimpy hotel dryers are enough to get the moisture out and I can finish with John Frieda. This has been one of my best buys.

If I wrote about what makeup I take we’d be here forever. But maybe I’ve given you some ideas on how to travel a little more lightly so you have room in your suitcase for all the things you want to buy! Bon Voyage.  — Marcia

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum – your skin will only get better, that’s the truth!

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum

I promise to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I was told to do so by Ole Henriksen when I started using their Truth Serum. It’s pretty easy to do so since this is one great product.

The full name of this wonder is Truth Serum Vitamin C Collagen Booster. This is one of the premier items in the Ole Henriksen line. Like the other products I’ve used from Ole Henriksen it has the most delicious orange creamsicle scent. It’s pretty highly fragranced with a scent that I personally love. It’s not a true citrus scent because it’s on the sweet side of orange.

A serum is unlike a moisturizer but it has many of the same benefits for your skin. I use a serum because the consistency seems to penetrate the layers of my skin more quickly and efficiently. It doesn’t give me the full moisturizing of a cream but it is a perfect way for me to start my skincare routine.

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Vitamin C Collagen Booster

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Vitamin C Collagen Booster

Ole Henriksen’s Truth Serum was created to do several things for your skin:

1) It has a proprietary five-source vitamin C complex to support natural collagen production

2) It helps brighten skin

3) It products from free radical damage and the environment

4) It helps minimize fine lines

5) It is enriched with green tea extract and sodium hyaluronate to nurture and nourish

6) It contains Vitamin E to heal, restore, and nourish

Here are some of the key ingredients in this Vitamin C complex:

Orange extract supports natural cell turnover and purifies.
Grapefruit extract brightens with antiseptic and aromatic qualities.
Rose hips seed extract heals, repairs damage, and soothes.
Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate is very stable, safe, and non-irritating—the key to production of collagen.
Ester-c (Calcium Ascorbate) is a highly stable natural form of vitamin C found naturally in the body.

OK… now that you’ve read what it’s all about, let’s talk about how it works. First this is a water based product which is excellent for almost all skin types. You don’t really need to layer oil after oil or cream after cream on your skin. With Truth Serum you only need the smallest amount of it to work. My only complaint about Truth Serum is that if I’m not paying attention then I’ll get out too much. It doesn’t go to waste since I’ll use it on my neck but I really want to savor it for my face.

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum, more than you really need for your whole face

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum, more than you really need for your whole face

There is no oily residue but it doesn’t feel like you are just putting water on your face. When I apply it I let it sink into my skin before putting on any moisturizer or SPF product. I want it to get to work on its own. Since I’ve been using this I have seen an improvement in the brightness of my skin. I’ve been feeling more confident about using lighter foundations or even going bare faced (foundation-wise) out of the house. It contains Sodium Hyaluronate which helps replenish lost hydration and I’m all about hydration.

The fragrance lingers for about 10-15 minutes. If it were any other fragrance I’d probably complain or not use it as often as I do but I love the way it smells. I usually apply this as the first item on my face. I’ll then do my eyes before continuing on other facial products. That gives it time to sink in and nourish my skin.

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Vitamin C Collagen Booster is available in two sizes. A 1 oz size is $48 while the 1.7 oz size is $72. From the reviews I’ve read consumers may start small but their next buy is the larger size and I can see why. In the summer I can imagine being able to start with Truth Serum and then applying Perfect Truth CC Creme and being set to go. I’ll just have to avoid being around anyone that’s too hungry. — Marcia

Makeup Wars – heavenly foundations

makeup-wars.jpg~original

This week the Makeup War bloggers have decided to take on foundations again. It’s not a new subject for us, or any bloggers, but since we are such fickle pickles most of us change our minds more often than the typical pickle. I have a box filled (or overfilled) with foundation, BB Cream and CC Cream. Choosing which to share was actually easier than I thought since I looked at my vanity and saw 6 bottles and tubes that I’d been switching between for the last several months. So that’s what you see here (along with my laundry room!).

Makeup Wars Heavenly Foundation picks February 2014 @beautyinfozone

Makeup Wars Heavenly Foundation picks February 2014 @beautyinfozone

There are 3 foundations that have been in heavy rotation. These are the items I’ve used the most in January especially.

Makeup Wars foundations: Senna Lasting Illusion, Eddie Funkhouser Luxlight Revitalizing Foundation, Lancome Teint Miracle

Makeup Wars foundations: Senna Lasting Illusion, Eddie Funkhouser Luxlight Revitalizing Foundation, Lancome Teint Miracle

Senna Lasting Illusion Satin Matte Foundation – I recently reviewed this and to be honest it’s been on my face almost constantly the last few weeks. I’m crazy about the finish of this foundation. It’s the fullest of the three I’m sharing but it’s not so full that it’s mask-like. It covers my imperfections beautifully and lasts wonderfully even in the harsh weather we’ve had in Michigan. I can’t get over how much I like it. I have new items to review but I don’t want to put this away.

Eddie Funkhouser Luxlight Revitalizing Foundation – I need to write a review of this soon. This is the lightest weight, sheerest of the foundations shown but some days that’s exactly what I need. You can build this up to give a fuller coverage though. It’s a beautiful luminizing finish. It comes in 6 shades and it’s only $14.99.

Lancome Teint Miracle – I’ve had this particular bottle at least 3 years but it’s just as good as ever. I know some people wouldn’t keep it that long but as a blogger I am constantly switching and testing. Yet I come back to Teint Miracle often. If I’m asked about Lancome this is what I recommend too. It’s available in an amazing 31 shades so there’s something for everyone here. When I first reviewed it (January 2012) it was available in 16 shades. They’ve since doubled the amount of shades and raised the price $6. I will most likely rebuy this with the right gwp some day.

Makeup Wars Foundations – CC Cream version with It Cosmetics, Kate Somerville Illumikate CC, Pur Minerals

My BB creams are all put away for now but 3 of the CC Creams I have are still playing a big part in my rotation. I use these often when I’m in a hurry because they contain skincare elements and SPF but I also use them because I love the finish of them.

IT Cosmetics Your Skin but Better CC+ Cream has been mentioned by me so often that you are probably tired of the repetition. But when something is this good, it’s worth me telling you over and over. As much as I love this brand and want to recommend it all to you, this is my absolute favorite product from them. This fickle pickle has told you other products were her favorite but this is the true favorite. When I first reviewed it was summer, now it’s winter and it’s still just as wonderful.

Kate Somerville IllumiKate CC Cream is my newest CC Cream and it’s another winner. This only comes in 4 shades though. I was sent this in Fair to review but it’s still a little dark. The solution for me is to take some of my tarte maracuja concealer and mix them, about 1/3 concealer to 2/3 IllumiKate. That color works and I have this beautiful glow that has SPF 50. Look for a full review very soon on this.

Pur Minerals CC Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is another favorite that works for me year round. I’ve worn this in all seasons except spring and my skin loves it in all of those seasons. The consistency is mousse-like and spreads so easily.

This fickle pickle is officially declaring these 6 products her favorite foundation picks. But don’t be surprised to hear of more later though since I have a few more products to review for you. Fickleness can be delightful!! Have you worn any of these 6? If not which would you most want to try? — Marcia

Ole Henriksen Truth to Go Wipes to the rescue

Ole Henriksen Truth to Go Vitamin C Wipes

Ole Henriksen Truth to Go Wipes

It’s funny how tastes change over time. When facial wipes first came out I had no interest in them. I didn’t see the purpose of them. I bought a pack here or there but they’d often dry out for lack of use. That’s changed and I have a variety of facial wipes and use them for different purposes. My latest favorite is by Ole Henriksen and it’s their Truth to Go Cleansing Wipes which were sent to test.

I use wipes in a variety of ways.

1)      To refresh my skin during the day.

2)      To remove makeup instead of washing it off.

3)      As a blogger, to remove the swatches covering arms and hands.

4)      To “wash” my hands before eating out.

5)      To wipe off my little guy and his very sticky hands.

Ole Henriksen Truth to Go Wipes, 10 pack

Ole Henriksen Truth to Go Wipes, 10 pack

With the Ole Henriksen Truth to Go Wipes I like having the 10 pack ($6) in my purse and the 30 pack ($15) in my bathroom. It’s not always convenient for me to get to a bathroom if I have a 2 year old in tow but with a pack of these wipes in my purse I can grab them and clean my hands off. I am very fussy about scent so if I forget his unscented baby wipes then I have my own orange scented wipes to take care of us.

Since I’m the ‘queen of hot flashes’ (an unwanted role in my life) I often need to wipe my face in a very gentle way. I don’t want to scrub, I just want to refresh. I’ll sometimes have mascara or eyeliner dripping down – and it’s seriously not a pretty picture. Ole Henriksen helps remove the grime without removing all my makeup. They contain essential fatty acids too that nourish the skin. Plus they are refreshing for me to use after an episode.

At the end of the day, I just don’t always feel like removing all my makeup. If I’m tired it’s easier to use a Truth to Go wipe to remove my makeup than it is for me to stand at the sink. While these are made to remove eye makeup too, they only help me on certain days. Since I wear an intense eye most days I’ll often need to start with a specific eye makeup remover and then get the remainder off with my Ole Henriksen wipe. I like to do that since they have Vitamin C and micro algae which helps brighten, firm and smooth the texture of skin.

I’m not going to pretend I don’t know that a lot of people use baby wipes in place of cosmetic wipes but unless money is a big issue I’d save the baby wipes for the kids. Using Ole Henriksen’s Touch to Go Cleansing Wipes is better for your face. They have skin care ingredients like the Vitamin C and micro algae mentioned plus green tea and alpha hydroxyl acids. They are formulated WITHOUT parabens, sulfates, synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, phthalates, GMOs and triclosan. Personally I have one face and I want to use products with ingredients I trust and that are made for me. Ole Henriksen has made these for people like you and me and I’m thanking them for doing so. — Marcia

Supercharge your eyes with Ole Henriksen Perfect Truth CC Eye Creme

Ole Henriksen Perfect Truth™ CC Eye Crème

Ole Henriksen Perfect Truth™ CC Eye Crème

This summer is the summer of CC Creams for me. It’s not that I don’t love my foundations and BB Creams but I think I’ve been spoiled by the letters CC. I’m constantly reaching for these as my face color of choice and Ole Henriksen’s Perfect Truth™ CC Crème with broad spectrum SPF 30 is getting an awful lot of use. CC Creams aren’t that terribly different than BB Creams but for me they have more color correcting and more coverage. Plus I’m getting the best of all worlds with good old Ole these days because I’ve been sent his Perfect Truth™ CC Eye Crème Broad Spectrum SPF 15 to test and share the results.

Ole Henricksen Perfect Truth™ CC Eye Crème

Ole Henricksen Perfect Truth™ CC Eye Crème

This CC Eye Crème is a triple threat because it not only protects my eyes with sunscreen, it also protects my eyes with its moisturizing and lightly conceals at the same time. The initials CC stand for Color Correcting and Ole Henriksen does this in a very soft way. If you need heavy duty concealing this isn’t going to do it but if you need to improve the appearance of your undereye area then you want to read on.

Perfect Truth CC Eye Creme

Perfect Truth CC Eye Creme

I almost always mix my concealer with an eye cream. I’ve been doing it for years. Perfect Truth™ CC Eye Crème saves me from that step since it is the eye cream. The moisturizing effect of this is great. The area under your eyes has the most delicate skin on your face and you need to care for it in a fragile way. When companies describe how to use their eye creams they always say to apply with your ring finger since they know you’ll have a lighter touch that way. No matter what finger or tool you use, don’t rub, just pat. That’s how Perfect Truth™ CC Eye Crème works best. You don’t need a lot either. This is an illuminating eye cream/concealer. It’s not flat so it gives my undereye area a very soft look. Almost like the camera stopped focusing on my dark circles and fine lines.

It’s loaded with wonderful ingredients:
-Proprietary Five-Source Vitamin C Complex: Brightens, firms, and strengthens.
-Tripeptide-5: Supports natural collagen and elastin; reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
-Ferulic Acid: Defends from environmental aggressors and prevents premature aging.
-Sodium Hyaluronate and Ceramides: Plump the look of skin while nourishing and replenishing moisture.

Perfect Truth CC Eye Creme

Perfect Truth CC Eye Creme

I don’t know about you but at my age I need all the strengthening, plumping and moisturizing I can get. This only comes in one shade but since the texture is so light I think this will work for just about everyone. You blend it in (with that ring finger) and you mostly see the moisturizing, not the concealing. I sometimes follow up with another concealer but most days I don’t need to. It seems to be enough for me lately. It illuminates under my eyes with light reflecting pigment that is meant to diffuse flaws. With time the skincare ingredients are meant to help brighten, fade spots and minimize fine lines. I’ve been using this about a month and I’m seeing the beginning of these effects. If I’m going out at night I’ll reapply this or another concealer just like I refresh my eyes, cheeks and lips.

I’m happy to have another Ole Henriksen product to keep me supercharged and protected from the damaging rays of the sun and the damaging everything of Father Time! — Marcia

Makeup Wars – Summer Complexion Fixers

 photo complexion-fixers.jpg

It’s summer and I’m all about using the lightest products I can on my skin. When Makeup Wars decided to do “summer complexion fixers” I headed right to my BB Creams and CC Creams. These are the products that get me through when the weather heats up.
I’m concentrating on the three CC Creams that I own and love. These are what I’ve been using for the last month or longer with a few BB Creams thrown in so they don’t get lonely.

I’ve previously reviewed It Cosmetic’s CC+ Cream. I love it, I truly do. The official name is Your Skin But Better™ CC+It lives up to its name – it is my skin but better. I won’t go on and on about this since you can read my previous review but it’s a win!

The first CC Cream I bought was from Wei to Go. I learned about it from Pammy Blogs Beauty and it was on my mind from that point on. I bought it in the winter since I needed a CC Cream in my collection. I bought it on beauty.com’s site but now it seems to be available just on their site and on Birchbox. What’s nice about Wei to Go Ideal Skin Perfect Finish is that it’s great for travel. I’ve got in it Light and it’s extremely light so if you are super fair this might be good for you. I don’t like the packaging at all though for home use. I think it’s wasteful but the product is good.

It Cosmetics CC+, Wei to Go Ideal Skin, Ole Henrickson Perfect Truth CC Creme

It Cosmetics CC+, Wei to Go Ideal Skin, Ole Henrickson Perfect Truth CC Creme

What I’m using all the time now is OLE HENRICKSEN Perfect Truth CC Creme. I seem to be reaching for this daily. Ole Henricksen’s CC Creme (press sample provided) is loaded with their wonderful skincare to make this anti-aging. Here’s some information straight from the source: “Five sources of vitamin C and tripeptide-5 expertly blended with nourishing ceremides and sodium hyaloranate visibly reduce discoloration and fine lines while plumping and firming the look of skin. All whipped up in sheer illuminating coverage and a velvety nourishing texture that melts into skin to diffuse imperfections, skin clarity, resiliency, and radiance improve instantly and over time.”

What’s important though is that the Perfect Truth CC Creme looks good on my skin. Even though my comparison pictures shows this as the darkest of the three CC Creams I use, it morphs into the right color on my face. It has a luscious light citrus fragrance that dissipates fairly quickly and gives me enough coverage to get through the day. It doesn’t melt off in sheets of color which is a blessing to me. I like that it has the promises of reducing redness, helping with fine lines and brightening my skin. This comes in Light or Medium so if you can find a shade that works for you I say go for it.

Here are some pictures before you move on to see the rest of the Makeup War bloggers choices. We always have some winners for you but, of course, I’m sure my choices are the best. — Marcia
