Some holiday Pop Fizz and Clink with December’s Boxycharm

Boxycharm for December 2015

Boxycharm for December 2015

The December Boxycharm subscription stands out to me mainly because I can smell it when I open the package. Happily it’s a delicious fragrance from a product I know I’ll enjoy. Boxycharm is a $21 subscription that comes monthly although you can stop anytime you want. I’ve been getting it since this summer and I’ve enjoyed this subscription a lot – it’s always loaded with full size items and worth a lot more than the $21 it costs me.

NelsonJ Argan Oil 7 Moisture Healing Mask ($23) is a brand I’ve tried but not in the coconut scent that is creating the delicious fragrance in my box. This hair mask is made of 100% Argan Oil and helps moisturize hair. What’s interesting about this is that it’s a PRE-WASH. Apply it for a minute for regular conditioning or wait 5 minutes for a deeper repair before you shampoo. The next step is to leave it in (don’t rinse) and then shampoo and condition hair as usual.

NCLA SO RICH CUTICLE OIL ($18) helps to revitalize and hydrate cuticles and nails. It contains Vitamin E extract paired with sunflower seed oil. The packaging is great with the dropper. Don’t take too much out though since for me one drop does the job although my cuticles behave normally.

TATCHA Aburatorigami Beauty Papers ($12) are wonderful for all skin types. I just get a little oily in my t-zone lately but I love using these luxury blotting papers to refresh my makeup. If you have oily skin they are even better! These are soft and whisper thin. They’re made of 100% natural abaca leaf and gold flake to absorb excess oil without disturbing your makeup.

Jelly Pong Pong All Over Glow ($15.95) is an oil free lightweight luminizing gel. I haven’t used it yet because I want to find out from others if it has a fragrance to it. It contains micronized pearlescent pigments and jasmine extract to highlight your face for a radiant complexion. (The black you see is from the crinkled paper in the box, it clings to shiny wrapping)

OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Americano ($19.90) I believe there were 3 shades sent out. When I saw the spoiler I knew that this would end up in a giveaway for two reasons. First Ofra lip products are more fragranced that I like but the main reason is that this brown red just isn’t my color. Therefore it’s not swatched or opened. What Ofra says about this Liquid Lipstick is that it’s non-feathering, creamy and soft in texture, and that it moisturizes lips.

OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Americano and BELLAPIERRE Gel Lip Liner in Cinnamon

OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Americano and BELLAPIERRE Gel Lip Liner in Cinnamon

BELLAPIERRE Waterproof Gel Lip Liner in Cinnamon ($17.99) is the perfect liner for the OFRA lipstick. These two were a great combination for Boxycharm this month. If you were these shades you’ll be in heaven. A gel liner (eyes or lips) is a great liner since they glide on. This too will be in a giveaway since they are like a Reese’s Peanut Butter cup and belong together.

The value of this month’s Boxycharm is $107. Even if I give away the two lip products I still have $69 worth I’ll love using. And a happy Beauty Info Zone winner. So it’s win win all around!

What brought me back to POPSugar Must Have?

After about 18 months of buying the POPSUGAR MUST HAVE Subscription box in 2012 and 2013 (reviews here) I decided it was time to move on. The items were always quality ones and I certainly got more than my money’s worth from the subscription but I realized I was keeping 1/3 and giving away 2/3 of the box so I decided to go on a hiatus. But I’m back and going to give it a few months to see whether the boxes changed and/or my taste changed. I started with the September box after seeing their teaser:

Too Faced Brow Envy Kit

Too Faced Brow Envy Kit

PopSugar Must Have sells for $39.95 and the Too Faced Brow Envy Brow Shaping & Defining Kit is $39. That meant I could try a new product plus whatever goodies would be in the subscription and come out ahead. I know that PopSugar only sends full size items that are from great companies so I had nothing to lose. Did it meet my expectations??

PopSugar Must Have for September 2015

PopSugar Must Have for September 2015

PopSugar takes inspiration from the latest fashions and fads when putting together a box. All boxes are the same and they are a blast to open. I try not to read other reviews because I love the surprises inside. September’s box turned out to have a value of $156. Let’s take a peek:

TOO FACED BROW ENVY SHAPING & DEFINING KIT ($39) This is a one size fits all kit. I’ve become brow obsessed in the last year after realizing that my brows are beyond sparse. The kit is interesting but far from perfect. It contains setting wax, a cream highlighter, blonde powder and brunette powder. There’s also a set of mini tools (brush, spoolie, tweezers) along with 3 eyebrow stencils and directions.

Too Faced Brow Envy

Too Faced Brow Envy swatches

Too Faced Brow Envy tools and stencils

I am not a fan of stencils though I have used them on occasion. I always feel I need a third hand to hold them in place while my real hands do the work. Plus it’s hard to get them to match my brow shape. That said I know some people who need to start from scratch so these can be extremely helpful for them. While my swatches are quite light, the powders apply much better on my eyebrows since they have something to grab onto and a brown base. This won’t take the place of my Pixi brow favorites but it’s a good kit for on the go.

ncLA SO RICH VITAMIN-E ENRICHED CUTICLE OIL ($18) is close to perfect for a subscription box like this. There’s no worrying if you get a color you don’t like or can’t wear (glitters for me) because this works for everyone. Other than nail bloggers I’m willing to guess that most of us don’t take care of our cuticles like we should. This conditioning oil goes a long way and it smells so yummy. When I get my nails manicured I have about a minute with a cuticle oil on so having this is a nice touch.

BRIOGEO ROSARCO MILK REPARATIVE LEAVE-IN CONDITIONING SPRAY ($20)  is a leave in conditioner that’s different than the ones I have. First of all, it really looks and feels like milk. It’s not the least bit sticky. While it’s a thin consistency you don’t need as much as you’d first think because it’s loaded with amazing ingredients that will help protect your hair from heat and the elements. It contains an antioxidant rich milky blend and nutrient packed argan, rose hip, and coconut oils. I remember when my blog partner Lisa reviewed Brigeo and fell in love with the brand. Now I can too.

So far we’ve hit a triple with three great products. Let’s see if the others can score a run for the home team! Next onto travel, fashion and food!

KRIS NATIONS “XO” STUD EARRINGS ($35) are the cutest earrings I’ve seen. XO of course means hugs and kisses and that’s what these will do to your ears. The packaging is great – they come in the cutest cork topped bottle. I love mini items. The only bad news about these recycled brass & plated with 14k gold earrings is that I don’t have pierced ears. Boo hoo. I’d wear these in a minute but my once pierced ears have closed up after I had an allergic reaction to metals.

One of my favorite items in the box is the HUDSON+BLEEKER LABYRINTH ONYX TRAVEL TRIO ($42). It’s TSA perfect. There’s a see through cosmetic bag big enough to hold a good amount of treasures along with 2 14″X12″ silky drawstring bags to hold things like your intimates and shoes in your luggage. These are so well made and so handy. They fold up easily back into the travel case to store until you need them again. I can see using these at home too for your “special” intimates that you don’t want co-mingling with the reggies.

NOURISH SNACKS ALMOND TO CHERRIES ($2 for 1.4 oz) is an absolutely delish snack that is totally my taste. Their website is loaded with mouth watering products that are gluten free, dairy free, GMO free and vegetarian. They were founded by Joy Bauer, the Today Show’s nutritionist. I need these to carry around with me to stop my cravings!

Top Ten red nail polishes

Favorite red nail polishes #beautyinfozone

Favorite red nail polishes #beautyinfozone

It’s Top Ten Tuesday and we’re going red. Each blogger is picking their favorite red items so they could be anything. I’m all about red nails. I love red nail polish and wore it for years and years. I’d wear pink in the summer and red the rest of the year. I’ve expanded horizons but to me there’s nothing like a good red. If it’s metallic, that’s all the better.

Top Ten red polishes #beautyinfozone

In no particular order here are the reds I can wear again and again and never tire of. In the meantime my nail drawers are filled with more reds but I narrowed it down to:

butter LONDON, A-England, FACE Stockholm, Illamasqua, FABY

butter LONDON, A-England, FACE Stockholm, Illamasqua, FABY

1.  butter LONDON Knees Up – this metallic red speaks for itself. It lasts and lasts and shines the entire time. This is one of my very favorite butter LONDON polishes and it’s still available.

2.  a-england Perceval – this is called a ‘splendid and resplendent red’ by a-england and it’s definitely splendid. I am a big fan of a-england polishes and would own them all if I could. This deep ruby has a subtle shimmer that makes it perfect.

4.  Illamasqua Scarab – I haven’t worn this polish in forever and in my mind it was redder than it shows on the wheel. Instead it’s a stunning deep burgundy with subtle shimmer that’s a touch metallic.

5.  FABY Lacquer in Hibiscus Bloom – A little known Italian brand that makes gorgeous polish. This beautiful red has some pink shimmer in it to make it even more special.

6.  Color Me Monthly Just For You – I’m wearing this right now actually because it’s a beautiful metallic red and I can’t resist metallic red shades. CMM is a monthly subscription for $7 a month. When you receive a color like this, you know it’s the right subscription service to belong to. This is currently available for $9 in their Vault and I highly recommend it.

7.  Zoya Lisa – I bought Lisa in one of Zoya’s sales and it was the best choice. I love the shimmer in this because it’s definitely there yet it’s subtle and easy to remove. It’s a cherry red which I especially love in the summer.

8.  ncLA Satin Sheets Velvet Ropes –  What can I say? It’s red, it lasts, it’s cruelty-free, and it’s beautiful.

10.. Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Red Eye – This is new to me and boy do I love it. I hated to buy the top coat too but now that I’ve had a chance to experience one of the polishes I’ll go back for more. On the Sally Hansen site there are so many beautiful shades of Miracle Gel.

My February Wantable Cosmetic treasures

February 2014 Wantable cosmetic subscription box

February 2014 Wantable cosmetic subscription box

You probably know by now that I love the surprise of subscription boxes and that I love the Wantable subscription box so saying that my February box was a winner will come as no shock. This was the month of pink treasures since everything in my box is a shade of pink – from light to dark.  When my sister and I were each newlyweds we lived on the opposite ends of town and talked all the time. We would each go shopping and unknowingly come home with the same item. I’d ask what color she bought, she’d ask what color I bought – the answer was always the same – PINK! My love for pink goes way back.

Wantable cosmetics for February 2014 - pink goodness

Wantable cosmetics for February 2014 – pink goodness

To recap for those of you not familiar with Wantable – it’s a subscription box company that is different than any other out there. First of all there are 3 boxes to choose from with cosmetics, intimates and accessories. Second it’s the only box that you can customize by filling out a detailed profile. Yet there’s always a surprise element because even though you give color choices and style choices you just don’t know what Wantable has up their sleeves in that warehouse of theirs. The nice thing about Wantable is that if you get your box and you don’t like it, you can return it for a full credit. I had to do that once so I know it works.

My February box is surely different than anyone else’s since it reflects my choices. My Loves are eyeliner, nail polish, eyeshadow and tools; my Likes are brows, blush, lip color, lash product and complexion products; my Dislikes are highlighter and bronzer. Every month I can change these categories if I want.

Pink item #1 is LAQA & CO. Fat Lip Pencil in Wolfman. I don’t know any Wolfman that is this beautiful shade of pastel pink but I wouldn’t be frightened if I met him. I’m a big fan of lip crayons so this big lip pencil is right up my alley. It is the lightest shade of these that LAQA & CO makes and the one I’d pick if I were purchasing myself. This sells for $18 and is a winner.

LAQA & CO Fat Pencil in Wolfman

Moving up the pink scale comes Baci-Baci Lip Sheer by La Bella Donna in Incredibly Beautiful. How apropos since this color really is incredibly beautiful. It’s a bright pink but not too bright and it has the tiniest bit of shimmer. It gives life to my lips yet it’s sheer enough to not overwhelm me. It looks like a gloss but it’s more of a liquid lipstick. La Bella Donna added botanicals and vitamins to this hydrating formula. A big yea from me because this $26.50 lip sheer is fragrance free!! Win number two.

Getting a little darker is Be A Bombshell The One Stick in Flustered. These sticks are meant to be used on eyes, lips and cheeks. I have a lighter shade of this from another box and I like it though I don’t love it. Flustered though is a prettier color and works best as a blush for me. I’d never use it on my eyes. A Be A Bombshell One Stick sells for $16 but honestly the only time I’ve seen these is in subscriptions. I like it because this is such a flattering color on my pale skin. When first applied it looked scary dark but blending with a wedge sponge made it look perfectly lovely.

I absolutely love the look of these three products both separately and together.

The darkest shade in my box of pink is really fuchsia. It’s a nail polish from NCLA in Laurel Canyon Lolita. I’ve got a few NCLA polishes and they are incredible so I was very happy to see this polish in my box. I haven’t worn the polish yet and I’m not sure how it will look on my hands but if it’s not perfect then a sparkly or flakey top coat over it will change that. NCLA polishes are 5 free and never test on animals. These sell for $16.

A subscription to Wantable is $36 per month ($40 for just one month w/out a subscription). I paid $26 since one of our wonderful readers used our link and subscribed so that gave me a $10 credit. Thank you to whoever you are. For that $36 I received $76.50 worth of totally loveable cosmetics plus a sample of Sorme Under Foundation Makeup Enhancer.

NCLA Nail Lacquers – swatches and review

I love having new brands of nail polish. I especially love when I take my new polishes to my beauty salon and every person in the shop comes up to see how gorgeous they are. When I took myNCLA Nail Lacquers in, every nail tech, every hairdresser and every client were checking these out. I was terrified that my gorgeous NCLA Nail Lacquers ($16) would find their way into someone’s purse. That’s how much attention they attracted.

Everything about these is interesting – from the square bottle and caps to the tempting colors within. The company itself is interesting as their start was in fashion inspired nail wraps. They were inspired by the city of LA and the beautiful fashions around. From there they created their nail lacquers with this promise: “All our top of the line color formulas are 5 Free. No harmful carcinogens such as DBP, Toluene, Formaldehyde or Camphor. And nothing is tested on animals. Ever!”

NCLA nail lacquers

As beautiful as they are, they are just as fabulous to work with and wear. I’m able to share 4 different polishes with you with 3 different finishes.

West Hollywood It-Girl

West Hollywood It-Girl

NCLA West Hollywood It-Girl

West Hollywood It-Girl will knock your socks off. This burgundy cherry glitter is amazing. The base is clear, the cherry glitter creates the color. This needed 4 coats to be opaque on me but it was worth the extra time since the color is so striking. If it’s too bright for your nails then choose this for a pedicure since it will surely attract attention.

Mulholland Maneater

Mulholland Maneater

NCLA Mulholland Maneater

The best formula comes with NCLA’s crème polishes. Mulholland Maneater is an example of that. The color was basically opaque in 1 coat but with 2 coats it was absolutely perfect. The beautiful rich dark purple has a blue undertone. It applied like a dream. It was like it was applying itself.

NCLA Light Up the Night collection

Two of my beauties are in a set called the Light Up the Night Collection ($39): Hollywood & Vine Starlet and Bel-Air Trophy Wife. It also has LAX Jet Setter.

Hollywood & Vine Starlet

NCLA Hollywood & Vine Starlet

Hollywood & Vine Starlet is a black sparkle nail polish. The glitter in it is silver but the silver takes on colors when you are out in the sun. I wore this without starting with a black base coat so it took 3 coats to be opaque. Next time I’ll start with the black. Without a top coat it has a slightly rough finish which is typical with a glitter polish. Adding a top coat smoothes it out nicely but it’s not a glassy finish.

Bel-Air Trophy Wife

Bel-Air Trophy Wife

Bel-Air Trophy Wife

Bel-Air Trophy Wife is my favorite and the one I’ve been wearing for the last week. NCLa calls this a bronze metallic gold. My nail tech, my husband and I all described it as a dark champagne. However it’s described, it’s fabulous. Because it’s a metallic it could be streaky but I didn’t find that at all. It did show some imperfections on one nail that wasn’t as smooth as my others but no one other than me noticed it. The metallic finish gives it a burnished look. I will wear this polish in any season since it fits them all.

This is the perfect time to invest in NCLA polishes since they are 20% off with the code VALENTINE20. There is also a contest going on to win the Light Up the Night Collection but you’d need to enter on their website by Feb. 9th so hurry!

Win these or buy these, if you love polish then you want this brand. These are as wonderful as the true stars you’d see in LA. — Marcia
