3 summer beauty favorites from Pretty Vulgar, Eddie Funkhouser, and Nars

Did you ever get obsessed with something you bought? Do you have a large cosmetic collection yet ignore everything in it because you just can’t get enough of some products? That’s describing me and my summer beauty favorites these days.

Summer beauty love from Pretty Vulgar, Eddie Funkhouser, and Nars

As soon as Nars introduced their Liquid Blush I knew I had to have it. I was on a “no buy” and had promised not to buy anything before I moved … but the minute I moved, all bets were off. I needed Nars Orgasm Liquid Blush in my life. Having a $15 off $50 code from Sephora helped but it made me add something to my order. On a whim I ordered Pretty Vulgar Early Bird Eyeshadow Palette. I hadn’t seen one thing about this but I had heard of the brand. BEST MOVE EVAH!!

pretty Vulgar Early Bird Eyeshadow Palette

I’m in love with this. I have worn it every day since it arrived and I’m nowhere near to moving on to something else. I find new combinations of this every day. I can’t get enough of it.

pretty Vulgar Early Bird Eyeshadow Palette

There are 12 shades in this palette (which I didn’t swatch – so sorry) and I’ve used each and every one over and over.

Here’s my color interpretation:

TWEET: Very soft pink that seems a little powdery compared to the others. But using a light hand with it makes it a great browbone shade.

WINK: This is a peachy pink that I like on the browbone or lid. It also makes a good transition shade. I wear it on my lid and notice just a tiny bit of shimmer.

CHIRP: LOVE!!!! If you are into rose gold you will love this metallic shade. It’s the star of the palette in and on my eyes.

RISE: Rise is a matte pinky brown. It’s not an unusual shade but it works well with the other colors in the palette.

SHINE: Very pretty golden brown (pink undertones) with a nice sheen to it.

RUFFLED: This shade shocked me. When I opened the palette I figured I couldn’t wear it. It looked so shimmery to me. But I gave it a chance and now I can’t get enough of it. It’s a pinky lavender with shimmer that is much more visible in the pan than on my eye. I have no glitter fall out from it and it seems to brighten my look whenever I wear it.

UNRUFFLED: This is Ruffled once off steroids. It’s the matte version and it applies very smoothly. It looks great with the darker brown shades in the palette.

Pretty Vulgar Early Bird

NEST EGG: a soft matte brown with a neutral base.

TRUE COLORS: This is another favorite from the palette. It has some shimmer but it translates into a metallic shade. It’s a pinky mauve that gives my eyes a purple look. I haven’t been wearing much in the way of purple shadows but this lighter tone is close to perfection for me.

VICTORY: A matte chocolate brown, think of a Hershey’s square. It goes on smoothly with basically no fallout when applying it.

CONQUER: I can’t get enough of Conquer. I want to wear it daily. It’s a rich goden bronze with an almost metallic finish and very light shimmer. It gives me the oomph I want.

UNVEIL: This is the least used shade for me. Since Victory is in the palette I feel that this slightly darker matte brown is redundant. I’d have preferred another peachy shade instead of Unveil.

After I bought this I read the review that Temptalia wrote about Early Bird, and I wondered if we had the same palette. She doesn’t have a high opinion of this yet I find it a perfect way to get away from my typical taupes and browns. It’s got enough soft colors in it to make it a summertime pleasure and enough darker ones to add drama and style.

Eddie Funkhouser Quattro Variable Lash Mascara

When you have eyeshadows that make you look forward to waking up then you need a mascara that matches that quality and that’s where Eddie Funkhouser Quattro Variable Lash Mascara comes in. I’ve bought this mascara numerous times but my dear Eddie seemed to fall off the ends of the earth for a while. He’s back and he’s made me so happy. I’ve got some of his lip products coming up soon to share but for now let me write about my love for this mascara.

Eddie Funkhouser Quattro Variable Lash Mascara

This totally unique mascara gives you every look you can dream of. Depending on where you dial you can get 4 finishes from natural to va-va-voom. I typically apply two coats on #2 or 1 coat on #2 and 1 coat on #3. I get amazing definition, lots of volume, and happily some length. Eddie Funkhouser’s mascara has never smudged on me and lasts the entire day and evening without a problem. It coats your lashes, almost like a tubing mascara but not exactly. Sometimes when removing it I’ll find flakes of mascara but that’s only during removal. This $12.95 mascara is the best ever. And right now you can buy one and get one free! To celebrate Eddie Funkhouser’s birthday he’s having a BOGO sale. You’ll want two for sure!

NARS Liquid Blush in Orgasm

What started my obsession is this blush. Once I saw it I knew I needed it. I’m glad I bought Nars Liquid Blush in Orgasm when I did since right now most of the cosmetic world is upset with Nars for changing their cruelty-free status.

NARS Liquid Blush in Orgasm

I never could wear this blush in the powder form, it just didn’t look right on me. But this pinky peach liquid with a touch of shimmer is gorgeous in the liquid form. I’ve always liked cream and liquid blushes and this has become my favorite.

NARS Liquid Blush in Orgasm

While it’s not the longest lasting blush it gives me hours worth of pleasure. If I have to touch it up I’ll often use a powder blush over it. The only caveat is that you need such a tiny amount and the pump gets out much more than you need. I pump out as small a portion as possible, apply with a cotton bud in dots on my cheeks, then blend with my fingers. It plays well with highlighters too like Model’s Own Golden Sands.

What are your summer favorites? I highly recommend mine and am thrilled to say they are gracing my face every day.  —  Marcia

Perfectly pink Nars blushes for a Valentine flush: Angelika, Gaiety, Mata Hari, and Desire

Nars does pink four ways

Nars does pink four ways

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and I’m feeling like going retro and digging deep into my blush stash. Nothing completes a perfect Valentine’s Day look better than an awesome pink blush.  Nars makes the best powder blushes ever and they have four pink shades that are just different enough to justify having each one in your collection. The $30 you spend is worth every penny because these blushes last almost forever.

Angelika

Angelika

Nars Angelika Blush is a ‘cotton candy pink with gold and silver sparkle‘. That silver pan at the bottom of the blush solves the mystery of which shade is my favorite. I have 20 Nars blushes and this is the only one I have hit pan on – mostly because they are so pigmented I only need one light swipe to get great color that lasts all day. The sparkles in Angelika aren’t obvious, somehow they morph into ‘glow’ and really wake up your complexion. However, if you aren’t looking for sparkle, check out Desire – it’s the same shade only matte.

Desire

Desire

Nars Desire Blush is a ‘matte cotton candy pink‘. This is Angelika without the shimmer. I find that Desire is even more pigmented than the other blushes…a light hand is essential to avoid a clownish appearance. But used correctly this is amazing.

Gaiety

Gaiety

Nars Gaiety Blush is a ‘bright candy pink‘.  It is a natural, fresh, and glowy lighter shade of pink.  Gaiety is a newer addition to my collection, I love the cool blue toned pink because it is light with buildable color.

Mata Hari

Mata Hari

Nars Mata Hari is a ‘pink with a trace of crimson‘. This matte pink beauty leans a little plum. It’s a natural shade but use a light hand because it is super pigmented.

Any one of these gorgeous pink blushes will make a perfect Valentine’s Day. Look into your blush collection and get a little retro – which one of your classic shades gets you ‘in the mood’ for some fun on Valentine’s?  – Lisa

*nothing to disclose but my everlasting love for Nars powder blush!

What are your favorite blushes for spring?

It’s blush time for Top Ten Tuesday. There are so many amazing blushes from low end to extremely high end. It’s easy to covet blush we don’t have but it’s a little disconcerting to open a drawer and find it crammed with blush. Does that stop me? No but I’m getting better. Here are 7 of my favorite blushes that I’ll be wearing this spring and 3 that are on a wishlist. What are your favorites? — Marcia
1425854102_rapture-resizeRITUEL DE FILLE in RAPTURE is the first of my wishlist blush. My blog partner had the opportunity to review this beautiful cream blush ($24) and it is so up my alley. I love this gorgeous pink and I love cream blush. Gloss48 picked a winner!

Rituel de Fille Rapture Blush

Rituel de Fille Rapture Blush

1425853994_0607845055037NARS ADORATION DUAL INTENSITY BLUSH ($45) has been on my wishlist since they were first announced. I love the sparkling baby pink and shimmering hot pink. Of all Nars’ blushes I know this is the one that would get the most use.
1425853888_62d56e5f-ce6e-4e12-9b1f-a87bf8e9c73a_90120.pngPAULA’S CHOICE BLUSH IT ON CONTOUR PALETTE seems to have it all. 4 blush shades, 1 bronzer and 1 highlighter. At $36 the price is right. The blush shades are Delicate Coral (vibrant peach), Peony (light to medium muted pink), Dusty Rose (medium pink with a hint of coral), and Soft Mauve (rich, medium berry-pink). The highlighter is Pearl and has a luminescent quality while the Bronzer is a warm brown. This is probably the next item I’d buy.

1425853814_head-over-heels-compact_2MAKEUP GEEK HEAD OVER HEELS powder blush ($9.99 pan, $12.99 compact). I have a few of the Makeup Geek blushes and they are packed with pigment. Head over Heels is the lightest of them all, it’s a soft bubblegum pink with a little shimmer. Great price and quality.
1425853732_2275337__detail_?1425853732L’OREAL VISIBLE LIFT BLUR BLUSH ($12.99) is available in 3 shades though I found it nearly impossible to locate in stores. Luckily Meijers had this in Soft Peach along with a $2 coupon so I scooped it up. The texture is very silicone like so it may not work for some people but I’m enjoying it. It uses an opti-blur technology and contains anti-aging benefits. I’m happy that it’s not fragranced. Soft Peach is a pinky peach and a lovely spring shade.

1425853644_chateau-cheeks-cream-blush-flirt-opencpt-.08oz-72dpiPUR MINERALS CHATEAU CHEEK CREAM BLUSH in FLIRT ($18) has stolen my heart. This cool pink that leans toward the blue side of the spectrum wears wonderfully, glides on, and dries down to a perfect finish. I love the blush in Coy too but Flirt is spring in a compact.
1425853584_secret-admirer_2MAKEUP GEEK BLUSH IN SECRET ADMIRER is the perfect spring blush. It’s a matte orchid that is packed with pigment. I keep a powder puff nearby since it can be intense but that intensity means it’s going to last all day. If I had to pick one MUG blush Secret Admirer would be the one.
1425853513_2268213__detail_?1425853513TARTE CHEEK STAIN in Blushing Bride ($24) is another pink favorite. The tarte cheek stains are unique in many ways and all the colors are gorgeous but it’s Blushing Bride that I’m currently craving for warmer weather.

1425853435_2264082__detail_?1425853435IT COSMETICS VITALITY BLUSH STAIN in Radiant in Rose ($24) is probably the most long lasting of any blush. It’s true to its name as a blush stain. It’s loaded with anti-aging ingredients and anti-oxidants. I love everything from IT Cosmetics and this blush stain is an example why. (Available at Ulta)
1425853344_tarina-tarantino-parasol-openTARINA TARANTINO DOLLSKIN BLUSH in PARASOL ($25) shouldn’t be a surprise to Beauty Info Zone readers. I chose it as my favorite blush of 2014 and it continues into 2015. I love this pinky peach shade more than any blush in my collection.

The Face to Face Liquid Foundation Challenge from Neutrogena

About a month ago, Beauty Info Zone participated in a blind liquid foundation challenge sponsored by NEUTROGENA®.  We were sent two “blinded” foundations: Foundation A Broad Spectrum SPF 20 and Foundation B, along with instructions for using them.  We had no idea which one was the NEUTROGENA® foundation, nor did we know what brand the second foundation was.

Neutrogena Face to Face Foundation Challenge

First, we tried Foundation A, focusing on coverage, finish, and how it felt on our skin.  After several days, we switched to Foundation B, focusing on the same areas.  Then, we took a survey which asked our opinions on each foundation.  The application method that was recommended was interesting.  Instead of using a sponge or brush, we used our hands, warming the foundation then patting it on.  This actually yielded great results with both foundations and is an excellent option for applying liquid foundation.

After completing the survey, we were sent our results.  Foundation A was NEUTROGENA® Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup SPF 20, and Foundation B was NARS Sheer Glow!

We both preferred NARS overall, but it was a close call.  I picked the NEUTROGENA® Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup SPF 20 as my favorite for daily wear and for better coverage.  Marcia also preferred  the NEUTROGENA® Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup SPF 20 for daily wear, and she found it to be smoother and silkier than the NARS.

We loved participating in this blind challenge!  It was really fun to try this experiment, and now we both have two new foundations in our arsenals.  – Lisa

Top Ten Tuesday – Limited Edition 2014 wishlist

Beautysets - Top Ten Limited Edition 2014
TOP TEN TUESDAY is talking Limited Edition items for 2014. I’ve chosen 6 LE items that are within my reach monetarily but I’ve also chosen 4 that are in the stratosphere. But it’s called a WISHLIST for a reason – I can wish, I can dream, I don’t expect to own those 4 items though. Here we go with Marcia’s current LE wishlist. More will come soon in another article.
1414955675_2279336__detail_?1414955675BAREMINERALS THE MAGIC ACT is the most reasonably priced of all the items I’m sharing. It’s not LE in the same sense as some of these since it will be found for the next few months I’m sure. It contains 6 eyeshadows: Celebrate (yellow cream)  + Fortune (pink champagne) + Shazam (shimmering pink) + A-ha (brown sugar) + Pumped (cocoa sparkle) + Foreshadow (brown truffle) and 3 blushes: The Close Call, The Natural High & The Indecent Proposal (bronze taupe/golden petal peach/dusty plum) plus one luminizer The Premiere. What a great set for $39!!
1414955273__9456755CHANTECAILLE 15 YEAR ANNIVERSARY EYESHADOW PALETTE is one I’d love to own but knowing me I’d probably just stare at it and never use it. This palette donates money towards 3 wildlife charities to help product these creatures. Elephant is a deep aubergine, Butterfly is a warm vanilla and Sea Turtle is copper with rose-gold glimmer. At $68 it’s expensive but not outrageous.
1414954872_nmc1p32_mkTOM FORD LIMITED EDITION LIP AND NAIL BOX pricewise is out of my comfort zone and I know not everything would be used. But if someone has $500 that they wish to shell out for fabulous lipsticks and nail polishes, call me!
