3 in 1 mineral color that makes life easy: Susan Posnick Cosmetics ColorMe in Lilly and Peony

Susan Posnick, the gorgeous makeup artist to stars such as Cindy Crawford, Diane Lane, and Amber Valletta, found herself faced with a huge challenge: skin cancer. Instead of slowing her down, her battle with cancer inspired her to create a line of cosmetics with major skin protection that was simple and easy to use. Susan says, “My vision for Susan Posnick Cosmetics is to “Make Beauty Simple” – bringing  real life beauty and sun protection together.”

Susan Posnick Cosmetics is perfect for busy women who don’t have time for lots of fussy products.  She started with her groundbreaking COLORFLO foundation (stay tuned for a Side by Side review of the foundation soon!) and then added more skin-protecting products for lips, cheeks, and eyes in fantastic shades.

The BIZ was sent two COLORME Mineral Colors ($32) to review and I won the arm wrestling match with Marcia (yay!). These are some of the coolest multi-purpose color products I have ever reviewed.

Susan Posnick Mineral ColorMe for eyes and cheeks

Susan Posnick Mineral COLORME for eyes and cheeks

COLORME is a pot of mineral color that has a spongy puff on the top. Color comes out as you press down on the puff. There is also a mirror attached, making this very user-friendly and easy to use in the car (but not while driving, please!) or anywhere else for a quick touch-up. This is the very best blush I have found for those of you who really don’t like or have the time to mess around with makeup.

The COLORME pots - notice the mirror on top

The COLORME pots – notice the mirror on top

The mineral color is infused with vitamins A and E, so it’s good for the skin. I find the color is long-lasting; it even lasted through my hour-long fencing lesson where my head was encased in a helmet that looks like this:

Sure, it protects my eyes from being poked out...but it can be hell on my makeup!

Sure, it protects my eyes from being poked out…but it can be hell on my makeup!

The mineral color has excellent pigmentation so it’s best to apply lightly and layer until for the desired color intensity. I put this right onto my cheeks by pressing the puff against them and it makes for a perfect application that doesn’t even need further blending.

As an eyeshadow, I either use a brush or if I am in a hurry I simply use the edge of the sponge and pat on the color. It can be used as a lip color too –press a finger or a lip brush onto the sponge, pat the color on the lips then finish with a little clear lip gloss or lip conditioner.

Peony is a true pink that was inspired by Zooey Deschanel. This is a brighter blush shade and makes for an awesome lip color.

Other color options include:

  • Camelia- an elegant peached pink, angelic with subtle shimmer. (Inspired by Kate Hudson)
  • Ginger- a subtle bronzed glow, like warmth from the sun after a luxurious day at the beach. (Inspired by Angie Harmon)
  • Lotus Sun- a gorgeous sun-kissed coral with glimmers of silver and gold. (Inspired by Charlize Theron)
  • Scarlett- a deep flush, fresh from a brisk walk in Central Park.(Inspired by Jennifer Hudson)
  • Orchid- a beautiful mulberry wash, giving an exotic bloom to the skin. (Inspired by Scarlett Johansson)

I definitely want to try Camelia, Scarlett, and Orchid. If you haven’t explored the Susan Posnick line yet, I encourage you to do so now!  Stay tuned for several more Susan Posnick Cosmetics reviews.

Pürminerals 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup and Chisel Brush get some love, side by side

Purminerals 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup

Purminerals 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup

Purminerals is a cosmetics line that is famous for what it’s products DON’T have – you won’t ever find any Parabens, SLS, Lanolin, Mineral Oil, Petrolatum, DEA, Formaldehyde, or Hydroquinone in their products.  What they do have are excellent mineral-based products that perform, and are affordable to boot. Let’s see what Lisa and Marcia think about two Purmineral best sellers:  4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup and the Chisel Brush.

Lisa’s Side:

I’ve been a huge fan of Purmineral’s 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup ($26) for years. In fact, I haven’t been without one of these babies in my stash for the past six years.  This pressed powder makeup is one hard working compact, tackling four different jobs:  it can be used as a concealer, as a foundation, as a finishing powder, and as sun protection.

Pur Minerals

Pretty compact!

The coverage is medium, and it’s very natural looking. It doesn’t make skin look dry, nor does it settle into fine lines – I think because there’s no talc in it. In fact, it has shea butter in it which makes it a much creamier powder foundation than most. It really ‘melts’ into your skin, doing an especially terrific job of covering any red areas.

Pur

Sturdy, thick compact

My only complaint about this terrific 4-in-1 foundation is that it seems to go so fast! I find that I hit pan relatively quickly, but then I just go back to Ulta and buy myself another one. This really is one of my favorite powder foundations ever.

Pur

My shade is Blush Medium, which works perfect for my somewhere-in-between-light-and-medium skin tone.

The finish is matte but with super tiny shimmers which give the skin a great glow. I have long adored the Purminerals 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup and I highly recommend it.

 Marcia’s side:

Now that Lisa has sold you on Pürminerals 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup Foundation you need to know more about the Chisel Makeup Brush. This brush is great for the foundation but it has other uses, especially with Pürminerals Pressed Blush and Specialty Powders.

Pur Minerals Chisel brush

Purminerals Chisel brush

It’s so easy to use the Chisel Makeup Brush with the foundation or other products. Pürminerals calls the method the “3D” method – Dip, Draw, and Dust.

DIP the brush into the powder foundation and pick up the amount you need, I swirl it around on the powder.

DRAW circles on the lid to remove the excess.

DUST on the foundation in downward strokes to get a flawless finish.

A pristine brush will look like this:

Pur Minerals Chisel brush

Purminerals Chisel brush

Here’s what the brush will look like when you have the foundation on it:

Pur

Pur

I advise washing the brush before you use it. It’s a little bit scratchy at first but washing it in something like J&J Baby Shampoo or a mild cleansing product that you’d use for your brushes takes away that feeling. The brush is stiff, it needs to be since it has to pick up the product and blend it on your face. But once washed it becomes soft and easier to use.

This duo sells for $40 and the pressed powder foundation is available in 10 different shades. Buying these together is a savings of $10 since the brush retails for $23 and the foundation for $26. A bonus is that if you order from the Pur Minerals website you’ll also receive a free palette (there’s a choice of 3 at checkout!!). We don’t know how long this bonus lasts but it’s a winner. One of the choices is the Beautiful Creatures palette that I reviewed here. If you are in the market for a new foundation put this Pür Minerals duo on your list.

BREAKING NEWS: On Tuesday June 25th this duo is on Hautelook for the amazing price of $15 and not only that but you get a blush with it. Total steal and the perfect time to buy this. Hautelook keeps things on sale for 3-4 days but often sells out.

Rae Cosmetics Surface Primer and Climate Control Mineral Tint review

Cindy told Marcia, then Marcia told me, and now I am telling you about Rae Cosmetics, a very cool makeup line that is worthy of the girlfriend grapevine!  Marcia first reviewed the eyeshadows and mascara here.  But today is all about flawless looking skin thanks to Surface Primer and Climate Control Mineral Tint.

The Surface Primer  SPF 20 ($38) is a beautiful primer that does everything you need a primer to do.  It makes your skin soft, smooth, and silky.  Pores look smaller, and this does a great job of brightening the skin so it looks younger.

swatch of the Surface Primer

I love that it’s an oil-free serum so it doesn’t clog pores or cause irritation.  It also does a great job of ‘holding onto’ my foundation, even in super warm summer weather.

Rae Cosmetics Climate Control Mineral Tint

Speaking of warmer weather, a fantastic foundation for hot sweaty days is Rae Cosmetics Climate Control Mineral Tint SPF 20 ($39).  You know how much I love multi-taskers, and this is a great three-in-one product that stays put in all types of weather conditions.  It’s a water-based foundation, it gives light to medium coverage and to me seems more like a tinted moisturizer than a foundation.  It has a beautiful texture, light and airy, and is fabulously hygienic with that perfect pump.

Love the hygienic top!

It comes in 8 different shades, mine is shade 35.

Shade #35

It smooths on beautifully, and really brightens the complexion with a semi-matte finish.  It’s a gorgeous product that is a real winner, and it works extremely well with the primer.  Oh, and did I mention it’s also a non-chemical sunscreen?  And it’s an antioxidant moisturizer??  Totally worthy of telling two friends…who tell two friends…and so on, and so on, and so on….(C’mon, how many of you remember that hair commercial??)  Go to Rae Cosmetics online to find some great new things for yourself.    – Lisa

Youngblood completes my look with love

Youngblood Cosmetics  has learned how to win my heart. First they helped me this past summer with their Minerals in the Mist. I love sprays like this all year but in the summer I’m very dependent on them. Once I bought Youngblood’s I got through the summer much more easily.

Next they made me fall in love with their Gemstones eyeshadow palette. What a sleeper this palette is and what a wonderful combination of eyeshadows.  They didn’t stop there though. They created the most fabulous cream blushes that I just can’t get enough of. They’ve made me ignore all my other cream blushes lately.

Now they are back again to make my lips look beauteous!! With the lipstick called Pink Lust and the gloss called Embellished I need almost nothing else for my lip color to make me happy.

Youngblood Pink Lust lipstick

Youngblood Embellished lipgloss

Youngblood’s lip colors are divided into six color groups: Nude, Brown, Pink, Plum, Red and Sheer. With 23 lipstick shades to choose from you’ll easily find one you like. I have Pink Lust which is a perfect shade for me. I like light to medium shades on my lips and Pink Lust is right in that category. I actually was surprised to find it under the Sheer column since I think it’s very nicely pigmented. It’s got a glow to it that changes the color from a Barbie type pink to a peachy pink. Youngblood’s lipsticks are lanolin-free and being a mineral company they add in the best ingredients like Natural Oils, Minerals and Candelilla Wax in order to make moisturizing lipsticks with natural color.

Pink Lust

When I wear Pink Lust paired with Youngblood’s Tropical Glow Cream blush and Gemstones eyeshadow palette I have a complete look that I love. The only thing that could make it better is to up the glamour with a little gloss. That’s where Embellished lip gloss enters the picture. Embellished is listed under the Brown category but it’s actually a gorgeous gold shade. Not only does it enhance Pink Lust but it looks great over almost every lipstick I wear. Youngblood’s lipglosses aren’t sticky either. They are quite moisturizing due to the conditioning botanicals and vitamin E in the ingredients. Youngblood wants their glosses to moisturize, hydrate and protect lips and they’ve accomplished that goal. There 20 lipgloss shades to choose from (but I recommend Embellised since it looks great over any lipstick!!).

Embellished lipgloss

There are many reasons to love the Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics line and a big one I haven’t mentioned is that they are a cruelty free line with absolutely no animal testing. They don’t use oils, chemicals, alcohol, artificial fragrance or dyes in their products. With an ethos like that and products like I’ve tried, they will keep me coming back to them time and again. – Marcia

Beautiful inside and out: Eve Organics Mineral Blush and Eyeshadow reviews and swatches

After almost two years of blogging, I have come to realize that there are some truly stupendous organic lines out there.  What I was surprised to learn recently was that one of them is practically in my own backyard!

Eve Organics eyeshadow - gawjus!!

Eve Organics is a mineral make up and organic skin care line that can be found online and in select stores and spas.  I was attracted to this line because they have beautiful products and a beautiful message – every quarter, Eve Organics donates 10% of their profits to different charities that support people or communities in need.  They carefully select charities to make sure the donations reach the cause, and not just the pockets of the administrators.

Eve Organics refuses to use toxic ingredients like dyes, synthetic fragrance, and bismuth, so you know what you are putting on your skin is good for you.  They have an extensive skin care line, but today I am writing about their color products.  I recently tested their blush and eyeshadow, and was totally impressed.  And when I saw the bottom of the jar I realized that this wonderful company is in Macomb, Michigan – only about a half hour from where I live!

Eve Organics Mineral Blush in Kisses

Mineral blushes are in loose pigment form, so you can use them for many things besides blush.  All the pigments by Eve Organics are lip and eye safe, so you can use them for blush, eyes, lip color, mixed in with nail polish, or mixed into body lotion.  Their pigments have no fillers, so they have great  intensity and color payoff.

inside Kisses Blush

Kisses ($13.50 for 3 g) is a beautiful pinky-peach, I would say more pink than peach.  It does remind me of Nars Orgasm, but it’s a little more pink and far prettier, I think.

swatch of Kisses - like Nars Orgasm only better

I find that many mineral blushes fade on me very quickly, but these don’t.  The color is so concentrated that it has great lasting power.  And it’s extremely affordable – one jar of color will probably last your whole life, these are big jars and you need just a tiny amount of product.

Eve Organics FOD with Kisses Mineral Blush, caught blinking so you can see the eye look!!

So the blushes are great, but what about the eyeshadows?  Total, complete LOVE.  The colors are deeply pigmented and complex.  Just check out Fanatic ($8.95 for .5 g):

Eve Organics Fanatic eyeshadow

This is a unique purplish/brown/rose/golden shadow, it’s different from anything else in my entire collection (which isn’t as big as Marcia’s, but it’s still pretty big!!)

swatch of Fantatic

Oh my, just looking at the swatch gives me goosebumps.  It is truly outstanding.  I also tried 24K ($8.95 for .5 g), a shimmering gold that I thought would be challenging for my 46-year-old eyelids to wear gracefully:

Eve Organics 24K eyeshadow

Check out the swatch below.  Beautiful, isn’t it?  But would it give me that ‘aging hooker’ look that I try to avoid (except for special occasions, of course)?

swatch of 24K

It’s actually truly gorgeous on, far more subtle than you would think and very easy to work with.  If I want to look like an aging hooker I can pile it on, but normal application gives a fantastic glow that really opens up and brightens my eyes.

Eve Organics eye of the day

I am just so impressed with the pigments from Eve Organics.  They are affordable, super high quality, and most of all just plain beautiful.  I totally recommend this line that is amazing inside and out.  Every purchase brings you beauty and gives back to the community at the same time.  It just doesn’t get any better than that.  – Lisa

Youngblood Gemstones eyeshadow palette review – a matchmaker’s dream

I can’t help but compare Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics Gemstones eyeshadow palette with the dating world. You know how there are the guys who are ‘wham, bam, thank you ma’am” and then there’s the guy who barely gives you a kiss goodnight? You know how there’s the guy with the quick line and then there’s the guy who will wine you and dine you? You know how there’s the guy who’s onto the next babe as soon as he’s conquered the current one but then there’s the guy who’s the keeper, the one who wants to be part of your life and hopes the feeling is mutual? Well Youngblood Gemstones is that second guy. It’s not in there for a quickie, it wants to remain in constant use. It wants to surprise you with its consistency. It wants to start off slow but grow on you until you can’t help but say “hey, I really like this”.

Youngblood Gemstones eyeshadow palette

When I first saw Gemstones ($43) I was impressed with its subtle prettiness. I took pictures and swatched it and was struck by the evenness of the pigment and the way the colors applied. I then wore it for the first time and it made an impact on me with the way it blended and looked. Gemstones isn’t going to be the palette that you have that will astound people with bright colors and looks. Instead it’s going to be the palette that you want to keep in your purse or take on a trip or even wear at your wedding. It’s that understated yet sophisticated.

All 4 shades are a satin finish, there’s just the perfect amount of life to it without the colors being matte and dull.

Alabaster is a light cream that I find perfect for my browbone. It blends in well and completes the look without being garish.

Next to that is Cashmere, a very easy to wear light brown, dare I say taupe? It too is subtle but looks beautiful on.

Alabaster and Cashmere

Alabaster and Cashmere

My new favorite eyeshadow color is there too, a green that is called Irish Moss. It’s not too green which might sound weird but I like greens that don’t shout.

Last but not least is Golden Beryl, a beautiful peach shade.

Irish Moss and Golden Beryl

Irish Moss and Golden Beryl

Here’s how I wear this palette

1)      Irish Moss (green) on the lid, Cashmere (taupe) softly in the outer crease, Alabaster on the rest of my eye.

2)      Same look as above except I’ll use Golden Beryl on the lid.

3)      Cashmere (taupe) on the lid with Golden Beryl just above it in the crease; I’ll either use Alabaster on the browbone or use something like my Senna Light Tricks to brighten the look.

4)      Cashmere on the lid with Tarte’s Bright Side Double Ended Highlighter pencil on the browbone, then line with navy.

5)      Irish Moss on the lid with either the Senna or Tarte on the browbone and line with a khaki eyeliner.

I know there are more ways you can use this palette so this is just a start. I like the size of the palette (5.5 cm x 7 cm) and I like the full size mirror in it. The sponge tip applicator adds nothing but I never feel like they do. I always wear an eyeshadow primer with eyeshadows and this needs one for sure. The shadows are soft and need something to adhere to but then they do last nicely for about 10 hours. If I’m wearing 3 of the colors I usually feel the need to touch up before going out in the evening but for some reason if I’m wearing one or two of them, I don’t need to touch up.

Now your decision is, which guy (or in my case palette) are you most interested in? The one night stand (or two if you get really lucky) or the one that’s going to stick around and maybe just make it permanent? Youngblood Gemstones is in it for the long run. I can’t wait to meet its siblings personally! — Marcia
