Mascara Mania

Today I want to share with you all of the mascaras I have open and in use. I’m a bit of a fiend with these since I get unhappy quickly so I’ll move on only to realize that the one I stopped using isn’t so bad.

I never have guilt opening a sample size mascara since it’s rare that I’ve paid for it other than indirectly like a subscription box. Full size I’m more careful about so I’ll try to keep it to a mass market mascara and a more prestige one.

So here are the 4 I’ve got going and my opinions of them. Enjoy the read.

Mallywood Smoky Mama! Mascara

I’m not going to say more about Mally Beauty’s Mallywood Smoky Mama Mascara since I have reviewed it and shared what I love about it. I’m just beyond the 2 month mark and it’s starting to get thicker so it proves that 3 months is the max I should use mascara.

L’Oreal Voluminous LASH PARADISE

L’Oreal Voluminous LASH PARADISE is one of the most talked about drugstore mascara around. It does what it says – provides volume and length. I bought Blackest Black and it is truly blackest. The color is dark and the mascara gives a dramatic look. It’s the one mascara that I’ve rebought this year. It’s reminiscent of Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara so if that worked for you then you’ll want this too.

L’Oreal Voluminous LASH PARADISE

It can be hard to remove so don’t try it with just water. I use my eye makeup remover on a cotton pad and hold it on to loosen the mascara before attempting to wipe it off. It usually takes me two times to get it all off. That is not a complaint since this does what I want.

I obviously disagree with the back of the package since I don’t think soap would work on this thick mascara and I always do two coats but you know your mileage may vary.

L’Oreal Voluminous LASH PARADISE

L’Oreal Voluminous LASH PARADISE

The next are sample sizes that came in various subscription boxes or purchases. I love these smaller sizes since it gives me a good idea of whether or not I’m going to like the mascara. But they can be deceiving too. I had a mini Smashbox and loved it enough to buy the full size which then disappointed me so much that I wanted to kick myself. I had a mini Benefit RollerLash that was god’s gift to eyelashes but as much as I loved it my next full size didn’t match up to it. But I haven’t given up on RollerLash.

Speaking of Benefit RollerLash there’s Benefit’s BAD gal BANGOne really nice thing about this mascara is that you can actually buy the mini ($12) to see if you like it. Yes it’s more than a drugstore mascara but IMO it lasts as long as their full size one for half the cost.

Benefit Bad Gal BANG!

But what’s my opinion of it? I’m very much on the fence with it. I’ve been using it on a typical day that doesn’t include anything special but I’m not going to be wearing it when I want my lashes to pop. It’s not bad but it’s not special on my particular lashes (short, straight, but they will accept a fake curl). Reviews are mixed on Sephora about the mascara which goes to show that it’s a product that can work magic on one person and bomb out on another.

Benefit Bad Gal BANG!

MAC had a mini (and I mean mini) in my last IPSY bag. I was happy about that since MAC False Lashes used to be one of my favorites. Guess what … it’s not one of my favorites now and this didn’t tempt me to buy it again.

MAC False Lashes mini mascara

MAC False Lashes mini mascara

I thought for sure I’d like it because of the natural bristles but it didn’t really show up much. It didn’t matter how many coats I applied, it just didn’t like me. It even smudged on me. With a $45 MAC order at Ulta you can try this for yourself. But don’t go spend $45 just to try it.

L’OREAL LASH PARADISE  =  A

BENEFIT BANG  =  C

What’s your mascara of choice these days? I’m always on the prowl. Two new ones are waiting for me – a mini Hourglass Caution and a full size MILK Kush. Do I have to wait??  — Marcia

These colors are sinful but they have pizzazz #SinfulColors

Did you know that there are hidden sections on Amazon? I found that out when I was looking for SinfulColors cosmetics. I searched to no avail but once I went on the SinfulColors website I found what I was looking for and it led me to Amazon.

SinfulColors Cosmetics Stop & Star Gel Eyeliner and Diva Lash Mascara

SinfulColors cosmetics are fun and colorful products that you can easily afford as they are all either $5.99 or $6.99. These make it fun to have some products that you may not want to spend a lot on but still would like to have. I know I don’t want to spend a fortune to get a bright mascara since I’ll only wear it once in a while but for $5.99 I can buy SinfulColors Diva Lash mascara.

With SinfulColors Diva Lash you have your choice of 4 dramatic shades. Lash Splash is a bright, high-impact blue, Lashing Out is a burgundy metallic, Scanda-Lash brings you that bright purple that you always want while Fantas-Eyes is a rich metallic copper. You might be able to find a navy blue mascara somewhere but just look at this blue for Lash Splash:

The brush is meant to volumize. It builds up color and as it does it becomes more vibrant and show stopping.

It’s interesting to me that SinfulColors has chosen Amazon as their “storefront”. The cosmetics you’ll see today and tomorrow were done in conjunction with Vanessa Hudgens. “For beauty lovers who live for vibrant color as a means of self-expression, SinfulColors has all the outrageous, innovative, on trend & eye catching color you crave, so you can create looks as unique as you are.”

Another $5.99 treat is SinfulColors Gel Eyeliner Pencil. Gel liners are the easiest of all pencil liners to use. If you search you can find some unique colors but not at this affordable price. These glide on almost effortlessly. You’ve got some play time with them to smudge them but then they set well. I have Intense and it doesn’t run on me though it fades somewhat on my bottom lashline where I tear often. There’s a tiny bit of shimmer in the color but nothing that takes over the look. One swipe is all I need for this.

The four shades are

  • Intense, a bold shimmery plum
  • Lielock Eyes, frosty purple
  • Provocative is a bright electric blue ($9)
  • Seductive, a warm, gold-flecked rose

These SinfulColors pencils have a creamy gel texture that are smooth and easy to apply. You can make them super sharp with your cosmetic sharpener or let them go blunt with use for a more intense eyes. The shades are all iridescent so they have a verve that you don’t always find.

You will definitely fall for Mallywood Smoky Mama Mascara

Mallywood by Mally Beauty

I know you’ve tried many mascaras over the course of your cosmetic life but you haven’t tried one like Mally Beauty’s Mallywood Smoky Mama Mascara. This one has been terrific for me since the very first use and continues to be that way weeks later.

Mallywood Smoky Mama! Mascara

There are many times I grow into liking or even loving a mascara so it’s a very pleasant surprise when the first use is as terrific as the 30th use. No waiting for it to “age”, not too dry, not too wet. So what makes this mascara stand out? It’s the brush actually according to Mally. There are other Mally Beauty mascaras but what she did differently with this one is to trim the bristles down. They are very short and very effective.

To create a no-fuss natural smoky eye, Mally would take a mascara wand and cut the bristles to be so short you almost don’t see them! Then she would take that wand slowly press it into the bottom lashes. This creates the most natural and effortless smoky eye possible.

Mallywood Smoky Mama! Mascara

The bristles allow you to get each of your lashes with ease, from those little ones that are stubborn to your longest lashes. I notice how well the mascara coats the lashes leaving them beautifully defined with lots of length. I get a nice amount of volume from Smoky Mama but my lashes are skimpy so they aren’t super full. You can build this up without finding clumps.

I’ve yet to have a smudge even though this is a deep black. When I wear it with black liner instead of my typical brown my lashes look even thicker.

with flash so you can see the small bristles

Some mascaras make my eyes water especially at the end of the day but I haven’t had that at all with Mally Mallywood Smoky Mama! Mascara. That’s another reason that I’m excited about recommending this to you.

Decorté
Luxscara Long Lengthening Mascara

Mascara fascinates me.  It can do so many things…or it can do nothing at all.  I swear, some mascaras actually seem to make my lashes look shorter.  Crazy.  I love a mascara that gives my lashes super long length, and Decorté Luxscara Long Lengthening Mascara really hits it out of the part for lengthening lashes.

Decorté Luxscara Long Lengthening Mascara is found exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue, who says, “Ultimate lengthening mascara for long, feathery lashes. Luxscara Long Lengthening Mascara brush

The curled brush is great – I use it both ways to reach every single lash.  The brush gives my lashes excellent curl and unbelievable length.  My lashes actually hit my brows!  This isn’t a volumizing mascara, my lashes are indeed feathery and long but not fat.  The mascara lasts all day long without smearing or smudging.  It applies cleanly and I get this incredible length with two coats.

Your lashes will flourish with COVERGIRL Flourish by Last Blast mascara

Covergirl Flourish by Lash Blast Mascara

Are you aware that your eyelashes like to have nutrients just like our tummies do? COVERGIRL is onto this which is why they’ve added coconut, avocado & papaya oils to their newest mascara. FLOURISH by LASH BLAST is a delight because it’s a healthy mascara. It’s a salad of ingredients that will help condition your eyelashes.

Flourish says that this mascara will build volume and add definition. Marcia says that this mascara will show great definition, some volume, and a nice amount of length. I also like that this doesn’t clump on me at all and lasts the day.

Covergirl Flourish by Lash Blast Mascara

I have this in Very Black and it’s also available in Brown, Black Brown, and Black. The Very Black has just the right amount of depth of color to make me happy. I always curl my lashes and find that Flourish’s curl lasts throughout the day. I remove it with eye makeup remover but it is washable if you use a cloth to help.

Covergirl Flourish by Lash Blast Mascara

Everyone’s expectations of a mascara are different and Flourish by Last Blast is going to suit some people while not others. The volume isn’t va-va-voom but it does give me enough volume that my lashes show well even through my glasses. The definition of my lashes is my favorite part. Length is good but again not va-va-voom. Personally I lead a very quiet life so the amount of coverage is great for me. If you like a false lash look you won’t want to take this one on though you can easily layer it with another mascara to help that along.

Covergirl Flourish by Lash Blast Mascara

The wand on Flourish is long and covers my lashes in one sweep. The rubbery bristles seem to cling to my lashes while leaving them clump free. Another reason why this is a great mascara to pick up is the it doesn’t smudge under my eyes. And of course the price is great with the average being around $8. ($7 at Target).

Mehron Brazen Mascara – is it a winner?

Mehron Brazen Mascara

I think one of my favorite products to test is mascara.  It can be a big disappointment…nothing worse than major raccoon eyes by 10 a.m.  But oh, when it’s good, what a joy to have perfect thick lashes with no smudging or smearing even at 10 p.m at night!!  This is my experience with Mehron’s Brazen Mascara.

sample

Mehron Brazen Mascara

I don’t know if the Mehron Brazen Mascara ($12.95) is really brazen – it doesn’t give me full on drama, but it really separates, defines, and gives amazing lashes.  Mehron says, “the special nylon infused formula creates gorgeous volume by clinging to the finest of lashes allowing for maximum extension. From root to tip your lashes are coated in a beautiful jet black, water-resistant mascara that is feather light and extremely long wearing.

Mehron Brazen Mascara

The flexible bristle brush fans out each individual lash for a smooth, even, effortless application. Contains the nourishing properties of Vitamin E. Sold in a unique tube container, Brazen holds .32 oz. of product for extended use.”

Mehron Brazen Mascara

I say, it lasts all day and all night and only comes off when you want it to.  It makes lashes look long and lush, and the price is right.  Lashes are soft, not stiff or crunchy.  The brush is awesome – it really grabs every single eyelash and coats them all evenly.  I am only wearing one coat of mascara in the photo above, and application was so easy with no clumps and no fuss.  Mehron Brazen Mascara is a winner!  You can find Mehron Cosmetics online at Mehron.com and at Camera Ready Cosmetics.  – Lisa

It’s all about the eyes with Eyeko!

Many people actually do their eyes first in their makeup routine in case it’s the only thing they can get done, because if all else fails at least they have their eyes! When it comes to eye makeup, Eyeko has you covered from brows to lower lashes. Lisa and Marcia have some great recommendations today so read on to find out what makes their souls shine brightly through!

Eyeko Me & My Shadow

Lisa’s soul is shining with Eyeko Me & My Shadow Waterproof Shadow Liner

I actually don’t have much experience with cream eyeshadows and cream eyeliners…I have oily lids so I tend to stay away from them. I use pencils and gel liners. However, Marcia raves about these so I was happy to give them a whirl and I’m glad I did. I have three of the six shades Eyeko carries. Mine are Quartz, Bronze, and Chocolate.  Other shades available are Topaz, Taupe, and Charcoal. ($25)

Eyeko Me & My Shadow in Chocolate, Quartz, Bronze

My biggest worry was that these would melt right off of my lids, especially during my workouts. All my worry was for naught – these babies stay right in place, even on leg day! They don’t crease, fade, flake, or smudge. Eye makeup remover takes them off easily, but you definitely need it. You can apply the liner directly or warm it up on the back of your hand and use the brush on the other end of the handle. The tip of the color is rounded, so this isn’t going to give you a defined line, it’s a thick band of color that you can smudge out.

Eyeko Me & My Shadow Brush

Eyeko Me & My Shadow in top to bottom: Chocolate, Quartz, Bronze

Charcoal is a matte dark brown that smudges out wonderfully. I really appreciate how this doesn’t smear – what a find! Quartz is a beautiful pinky/peach shade that does a great job of opening the eyes. It’s terrific on the brow bone as well as used to line the eyes. Bronze is a pretty medium bronze that looks amazing with hazel eyes. I use this one the most of the three. All in all, Eyeko Me & My Shadow Waterproof Shadow Liners have won me over and now I am on a mission to get the other three colors!!

Eyeko Me & My Shadow

Marcia’s soul is shining with Eyeko mascara, eyeliners, and brow gel

Eyeko eyeliners, brow gel and mascaras

First and foremost for me are eye products. That’s what I crave and what I’m always in the mood for. So my soul was thrilled to have the opportunity to use these EYEKO products. 2 mascaras, 2 eyeliners, and 1 brow gel have been gracing my eyes the last few weeks and I’m a very happy blogger.

EYEKO BLACK MAGIC LIQUID EYELINER AND SPORT WATERPROOF EYELINER were the first products to grace my eyes. Liquid eyeliners are my favorite and the Black Magic liquid liner is quite impressive as you can easily create a thin or thick line depending on your preference. The color is a deep “carbon black” and the formula features Widelash, a conditioning Tripeptide complex designed to enhance the appearance of eyelashes. Ulta mentions that it’s waterproof though the box doesn’t say that but it doesn’t come off with water or tears. ($22)

Eyeko Black Magic Liquid Eyeliner

Eyeko Black Magic Liquid Eyeliner

I love that the inner box reminds me that “if you can do liquid liner, you can do anything” since liquid liners are my forte. I don’t know why they are easier than a pencil for me but it must be the precision of the tip on the Eyeko liner. That’s not to say that I don’t like pencil liners and especially the SPORT WATERPOOF EYELINER PENCIL. This is truly waterproof and is great for outdoor fun, sports, and happy/sad occasions.

Eyeko Sport Waterproof Eyeliner

Eyeko obviously has a great sense of humor “Never ask a girl with winged eyeliner why she’s late” and I have to love them for understanding me so well.

Eyeko Sport Waterproof Eyeliner

The twist up pencil has a brush on the opposite end and a hidden built in sharpener so it’s great as a travel liner. It doesn’t go anywhere you don’t want it to. Making this unique is that it contains coconut oil in the formula so it applies extra easily.

Eyeko Brow Gel

Prior to trying Eyeko’s Brow Gel I really thought that most brow gels were pretty much the same but Eyeko has found a way to make there’s just that much better to change my mind. It only comes in one shade “tinted” and when I first applied it I thought it was a light brown but, with time and one more coat, it darkened and evened out my brows.

Eyeko Brow Gel

Eyeko’s nano-brush and botanically-enriched formula effortlessly defines brows for a natural finish whilst maintaining a healthy brow look with Eyeko Brow Gel. Infused with key ingredients Keratin and Gingko Biloba combined with natural proteins and multi vitamins to condition, thicken and visibily improve the appearance of your brows.
I like the small brush on it even though it doesn’t coat in one fell swoop but it also doesn’t get on my skin.

Eyeko is known for their mascara. The first time I ever heard of Eyeko was because of the raves from women loving their line of mascara. There are 9 different ones sold at Ulta which shows how ingrained the mascara line is for them. I’ve got two to recommend.

Eyeko Black Magic Mascara

BLACK MAGIC MASCARA is a fabulous one for drama and curl. Not only does it help hold the fake curl on my lashes with it’s curved brush but it also adds volume. It’s got everything I look for in a mascara. It’s enriched with conditioning Keratin and Shea Butter to help with lash care so you’d think it would smudge but NO!! No smudging. It has a tubing formula that can be removed with warm water though I prefer a bi-phase eye makeup remover for everything. You’ll see those little squiggly lines of mascara come off but it’s not harming your lashes at all.

from Ulta: Eyeko Black Magic Mascara

Eyeko brush comparison: Black Magic and Sport

I also have SPORT WATERPROOF MASCARA which is totally different from Black Magic but works so well. The brush is really big and is so much wider than any brush I’ve seen before. I thought it would be hard to apply because of the size but surprisingly it isn’t. This is a fibre-enhanced formula boosted with collagen and fruit extracts. It adheres really well which is why it’s recommended for sports, even extreme sports. I think we should send this to our athletes in the winter Olympics!

Eyeko brush comparison: Black Magic and Sport

From Ulta: Eyeko Sport Mascara

I only wish I had beautiful (though surely photoshopped) eyes and lashes like the brand shows but if I can get better looking lashes to help enhance my tired eyes, I’ll take it.

There are many reasons we like Eyeko. This cruelty-free company doesn’t use parabens and is always looking for creative Korean technology when bringing out new products. Shop at Ulta.com, Blue Mercury, Dermstore or Nordstrom for all your eyes crave.
