I finished things! Amazing empties for March and April

It seems so rare for me to finish anything up completely other than a few staples but the last two months I actually did finish things and I’m ready for the dumpster with these. Until then see what got used up and what I think of these goodies.

March and April 2017 empties

March and April 2017 empties

Before I begin I must admit that I already threw away oodles and oodles of products. As I’m cleaning and packing I found so many that were started but never finished so I only kept the ones I really loved and tried to use those as much as possible. What you aren’t seeing is the trash that my neighborhood has seen!

Let me start with some staple items that I go through every single month and will continue to do so.

Q-tips and DHC Silky Cotton Squares

Q-tips and DHC Silky Cotton Squares

Costco knows me and my habits I’m sure. I buy these double packs of Q-Tips all the time. I use a lot of them in my life so buy stock in the company! I also have gone an unimaginable amount of DHC Silky Cotton Squares. I usually buy 6 at a time and they’ll last me for about 7 months. I noticed though that my last batch isn’t quite as soft as before so now I’m questioning whether they changed them. Anyone know?

Viviscal

Viviscal

I’m on auto-delivery from Amazon for these Viviscal Hair Supplements. I am on a maintenance dose and just take 1 per day rather than 2. I’ve mentioned many times about my hair growth problems and these help me a lot.

Bioderma Micellar Water, Dr. Brandt XYY Dual Fusion Water, Simple Micellar Wipes

Bioderma Micellar Water, Dr. Brandt XYY Dual Fusion Water, Simple Micellar Wipes

It’s obvious that I love Micellar Waters from this picture! I have a stash of Bioderma Sensibio H2O and made a point of finishing up the 500 ml and 100 ml bottles before I move. I have 1 more of each in my cupboard but won’t start those just yet. I did pick up a Garnier Micellar during a sale not long ago but that’s already packed and I also like Simple Micellar Water though I’ve noticed a slight fragrance with it. Simple Micellar Wipes are definitely my favorite wipes though. This is just a sample pack but I have a full size pack in use.

Dr. Brandt XYY Dual Fusion Water is one that I really enjoyed using but it is more expensive than these others. It feels more substantial though and it did a great job of cleansing.

Eclair Naturals Liquid Hand Soap, Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover

Eclair Naturals Liquid Hand Soap, Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover

I couldn’t begin to count how many Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Removers I’ve gone through since my first one. No matter how many others I try this is the one product that works for me time and again. I’ve already repurchased this and will again as soon as I move.

Eclair Naturals Liquid Hand Soap in Vanilla & Sweet Orange is a great natural soap that’s not drying. I’m stocked up on JR Watkins at the moment but I’ll repurchase this next.

Now for the fun stuff!

Miss Spa Oxygenating Bubble Mask and 24K Gold Creme Mask

Miss Spa Oxygenating Bubble Mask and 24K Gold Creme Mask

I’m not used to saving empties so in the past I never had them around. I purposely saved the packaging of Miss Spa Oxygenating Bubble Mask and 24K Gold Creme Mask since I totally love them. The 24K Gold Creme Mask is one I want to marry. The Oxygenating Bubble Mask was a fun bubbly alternative. I got three uses out of each package so it’s a bargain buy. I will definitely buy more after I test more of the Miss Spa masks I have.

Reviva Labs Vitamin C+ Antioxidant Serum, Hydroskin, IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Lines Serum

Reviva Labs Vitamin C+ Antioxidant Serum, Hydroskin, IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Lines Serum

I think I finished up Reviva Labs Vitamin C+ Serum but there might be a little left. Nothing pumps out anymore and I only see a drop inside. Reviva Labs is a favorite brand and this is a good example of why I like them. Very efficient and the price is great.

Hydroskin Skincare is a set I reviewed last month. I finished up all 4 of these products which is unusual for me but I dedicated myself to one solid month of just this line. I liked the way my skin looked with it. I still have 2 masks from them to use and review.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Lines Serum is ab fab! Not only do I love this anti-aging serum but I bought a new one before I was finished with the current one. This is my favorite skincare item from IT Cosmetics. I wish the price was less but I’ll continue buying and using this. I’m in love!

It’s a given that any time I would share an empty post that I’d have mascara. This time though I saved them after determining what needed to go before the big move. I found a lot of deluxe sample sizes and used them until dry or I didn’t care for them anymore.

In no particular order:

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara  –  always a favorite, I have another mini and a full size one still

Marc Jacobs Volume Mascara– while I liked the sample size from a kit I had bought I didn’t care for the full size one I had bought so it’s not to be purchased again.

Le Volume de Chanel  –  Love this even if this was tiny. I would buy it if I was flush.

2 more minis I forgot to picture: Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara which I loved and plan to buy one day soon. Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes, another dilemma since the sample was great but I wasn’t thrilled when I had it in full size.

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum – love, love, love this. It’s a perfect brown liquid eyeliner. This is the second one I’ve finished and I’m using my third. There will be a 4th and 5th for sure.

Smashbox Brow Tech To Go – while I didn’t use up the gel side I did use up every bit of the brow crayon side. It’s a very handy item but I just don’t need another right now.

IT Cosmetics No-Tug Waterproof Eyeliner in Black is one I enjoyed until it decided to break so I couldn’t use it anymore. I like these liners in general though and turn to them often when I want a pencil eyeliner.

A 3x use sample of Too Faced Shadow Insurance that was in my stash. I always have TFSI in my collection!

And one toss:

Z Palette

Z Palette

I got a few years worth of use from this but then it self-destroyed. It came apart and no longer is of use. I have others plus Z Palette is out of favor right now.

So there you have it. My empties, many of which are old standbys and a new love (Stila Huge Mascara) all wrapped up in my recycling bin for now.

What have you used up? —  Marcia

Makeup Wars picks favorite eye makeup removers

Counting down just like David Letterman does to get to my all time favorite Eye Makeup Remover!
1430010167_eye-make-up-remover_product#5  RIMMEL JUST LET IT GO – I received this in an Influenster box and I have mixed feelings about it. The price is right at under $5 and it’s very gentle. It never burns my eyes. But if I wear a gel eyeliner or a heavy mascara, I have to pick a different remover since it’s just not powerful enough.
1430010090_p_makeupremovers_eye_longwearingwpliquidmakeupremover#4  ALMAY LONGWEAR & WATERPROOF GENTLE EYE MAKEUP REMOVER  – I need to have a waterproof eye makeup around for certain water resistant mascara and Almay is always consistent in this category. I’ve used Almay most of my life so I keep an eye out for sales on the brand and keep a small stash of these around. No burning, no oily feeling afterwards, and does a good job of removing mascara.1430010034_p_makeupremovers_eye_oilfreeeyemakeupremoverpads#3  ALMAY OIL FREE GENTLE EYE MAKEUP REMOVER PADS – These are staples in my life. I have used these since I started wearing eye makeup. I can’t even imagine how many jars of these I’ve gone through. They are fragrance free and hypoallergenic. They are not the least bit oily so they are perfect for touch-ups or goof-ups. I don’t necessarily use them to take off my makeup at night but this is what I travel with and I use this to clean my gel eyeliner brush. Once I started doing that I stopped ruining brushes.
1430009957_00500960_just_release_me_re_a1#2 PHILOSOPHY JUST RELEASE ME EYE MAKEUP REMOVER – I’m wondering if they are going to discontinue this since they are marked way down on the Philosopy website. I might just have to order a few. I love this product but I hate the opening. I probably spilled 1/4 of it by mistake. The top is too wide without a stopper but that’s the only negative I have about this eye makeup remover. It removes everything without a problem.
1430009842_mary-kay-oil-free-eye-makeup-remover-h#1 MARY KAY OIL FREE EYE MAKEUP REMOVER – Actually I thought about just writing about this one alone. Mary Kay has me wrapped around their little finger with this Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover. There’s nothing I don’t like about it. It never burns, stings, or leaves an oily residue. The top has a stopper on it so I don’t spill it out as I’m putting it onto a cotton square. I love that I can use this with whatever makeup I’m wearing. It’s not specifically for waterproof but I’ve rarely had a problem removing anything with Mary Kay. Don’t ever stop making this MK, please!!!

Now that you’ve met the 5 eyemakeup removers of my life, what are yours? I’m sure I can find room in the bathroom cabinet for another. — Marcia

Makeup Wars – my repeat purchases aka the holy grail

It’s that time again. Makeup Wars!  If you haven’t been keeping up with us, Makeup Wars is a series with over a dozen amazing bloggers on a variety of topics. Today we have decided it show you the items we buy over and over. I’ve chosen to call them Holy Grails since I prefer these to similar products. These are products I consistently purchase and assume I’ll continue to do so for years to come.
So what has Marcia chosen and why?

Mary Kay Oil-free Eye Makeup Remover has been a constant for at least 10 years when I unwittingly ended up at an MK party. Actually I enjoyed the experience especially because I bought my first eye makeup remover there. Now I try to buy two or three at a time. The two items that I find the hardest to remove are gel eyeliner and mascara. No matter how stubborn those two are the Mary Kay works. I shake, squeeze it on my cotton square, hold it to my eye for a few seconds and wipe gently. I rarely need to add more since it’s so effective. Plus it’s not oily so if I’m redoing makeup I only have to pat on a little water and I’m set. The MK leads to the next item…makeup war repeat marykay

DHC Silky Cotton squares. I’ve used other brands of pads but this is what I stockpile. Since I hate paying shipping I always buy enough to avoid that charge and I’m set for a year. I like these because they are soft yet sturdy and they never shed fibers. I also buy Shiseido’s version because  those are super soft. But DHC stands up to eye makeup remover better. I usually only need one square for both eyes. I also use these for toner and other light liquids. These cost $5.50 for 80 pads and I now see that DermStore carries them.makeup war repeat dhc

Another type of cleanser I love having on hand all the time is J.R. Watkins Hand Soap aka Natural Home Care Liquid Hand Soap. This comes in about 5 fragrances and is my favorite item to wash my hands with. I keep these in all my bathrooms. It’s  natural earth-friendly formula that is moisturizing without being sticky. It washes off cleanly without a residue. It’s only $4.99 at drugstore.com or Rite Aid and lasts me about 6 weeks. I buy the yummy citrus scents of lemon, orange and grapefruit.

YSL Touché Éclat   Another product I buy again and again. I buy this kind of concealer/highlighter from other brands all the time. I  probably have half a dozen similar products in my stash. But when it’s all said and done, this is my favorite. It’s not the best concealer but it brightens under my eyes making me feel more alive. I’ve got a few new brands of this type of concealer/highlighter I will be using to review, but they’ll always be compared to YSL TE.makeup war repeat ysl

Last in this list is the BeautyBlender sponge aka Beautyblender Makeup Sponge– accept no substitutes. I’ve got this type of sponge from Sonia Kashuk and MAC and they don’t compare. Other brands will tell you that they are as soft but they aren’t. I love my “Pink Egg” and have gone through quite a few. Mine almost always stains but it’s not entered in a beauty pageant – its job is to make my foundation look perfect and it succeeds. They now produce this in black and in white so if you choose those colors just make sure they are genuine. I’m a bouncer ladies but only with my Beautyblender.makeup war repeat sponges

Cleaning Up My Act

You’ve already been invited into my shower so now we’ll step out and start investigating some cleaning items in my bathroom if that’s okay with you.

I have several bathrooms actually and in my main one I currently am using an Anti-bacterial Foaming Soap by Bodycology. I’m super fussy about fragrance and rarely go into stores that carry mostly fragranced items (like Bath & Body Works or Lush). I prefer using a liquid soap to wash my hands but it’s hard for me to find fragrances I can tolerate. Luckily Bodycology has this foaming liquid soap in Apple Orchard and that’s a scent I can live with. It’s a combination of passion fruit and red apple. This contains Vitamin E, Aloe Vera and Triclosan to kill germs. The lather is very gentle and moisturizing. This also comes in Brown Sugar Vanilla and Cucumber Melon. I’ll try the Cucumber Melon next. They also make a gentle exfoliating hand soap with Vitamin E, Shea Butter, Aloe Vera and small exfoliating beads that sounds interesting.

Nearby I have a small sample of Bodycology’s Cherry Blossom Hand & Body Lotion that I received in the mail via a sampling program (I like sending away for samples!). This is available in 10 scents so there’s one for everyone. I like this as a body lotion but not so much as a hand cream; that’s my fussy nose speaking. The Bodycology Lotion has kept my legs nicely moisturized after a shower. Both of these products are found at Walgreen so they are easy for me to get in place of something like Dial’s hand soaps which I find too harsh.

On the nights I’m too lazy – I mean tired – to wash up well I still need a cleanser. My latest comes compliments of a good friend. There had been talk about YES TO CUCUMBER’S FACIAL TOWELETTES and I always swore I’d pick one up. I guess my friend got tired of me saying it and she sent me a package for which I say “thank you”. I can understand the raves. These 98.7% Natural towelettes are wonderful. They are refreshing, moisturizing and they work. The fragrance is a very light cucumber one which never offends me and is gone quickly. This works well on my daily eye makeup so I don’t need a separate cleansing product for them. They are blended with organic cucumber to soften, aloe vera to soothe  and Dead Sea Minerals to exfoliate, dextoxify and rejuvanate. They get my face clean without stripping oils and I never feel the need to rewash my face. They are just the right wetness too. The package contains 30 Towelettes and costs $5.99. I advise putting the package in a Ziploc bag after opening them to keep them from drying out. The closing is good but it could be better.

My nighttime cleanser is from Rodan + Fields. I’m currently using the REVERSE system Deep Exfoliating Wash and alternating it with Burt’s Bees Orange Essence Facial Cleanser or Bambola Beauty Acai Anti-Oxidant Cleansing Creme on the nights I want to use my Clarisonic. I had to ease my way into the R+F Deep Exfoliating Wash but now that I’ve been using it for many months I love it. It cleans my skin better than any cleanser I’ve ever tried. It has small granules that exfoliate. I wet my face, softly massage a small amount into my skin and use a muslin cloth from The Body Shop to rinse it off. I follow with other REVERSE system and ANTI-AGE system Rodan + Fields products.

Here’s some information about this product from Rodan + Fields: “REVERSE Deep Exfoliating Wash is a multi-mechanism exfoliater that simultaneously cleanses and refines sun damaged, blotchy complexions. Alpha hydroxy acids loosen old, dull skin cells so that tiny polyethylene beads can effectively sweep them away.”

Rodan and Fields is sold thru independent consultants of which I am one.  I’ll explain more about this in the disclosure section down below. It retails for $41 but on the Preferred Customer status it’s $36. I’ve been using mine for 4 months approximately every other night and I’ve got another 2 – 3 months left on this tube.

One last product before I step out of the bathroom. One of my favorite eye makeup removers is Mary Kay’s Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover. This is what I use on the days that I wear a good deal of eye makeup. It removes my eye makeup without tugging. I shake it, put it on a DHC Cotton Square and hold it on my eye without rubbing. That alone usually gets off my eye makeup but if it’s not enough then I’ll gently rub the remaining amount off. It doesn’t leave an oily residue and it doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry. This now retails for $15. If I used this only (which I don’t) it would last me 2 months. It’s the best dual action remover I’ve found. I’ve bought dozens of bottles since that first MK party.
Thanks for visiting me in my bathroom. I even bought new jammies for this visit. When I was a kid I hated washing up but now I love to clean up my act! — Marcia

Disclosure: Samples of Bodycology were received through a sampling program.

I used to be an  Independent Consultant for Rodan + Fields but I’m not doing it any longer. I would love to explain the lines to you if you have any interest in the products. My sponsor for the line is still actively selling it so if you want more information you can reach me at [email protected]. I wouldn’t benefit from this financially. Thank you, Marcia
