Welcome back to Makeup Wars and our budget friendly theme of the week – drugstore favorites for foundation and concealer. My picks are rather limited but they are products I use all the time so they are trusted and true for me. I’ll be interested in what my fellow bloggers pick since I’m always in the market for something new.
My two favorite foundations for this theme are by Rimmel and SheaMoisture while my favorite concealers are from Maybelline. The prices are reasonable but more important I love the way they wear.
RIMMEL LASTING FINISH 25 HR SKIN PERFECTING FOUNDATION

Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25 HR foundation
I bought Rimmel Lasting Finish on the recommendation of a friend from a Facebook beauty board. She just kept saying how perfect her skin looked with it and it was hard to resist. The hardest part of buying drugstore foundation is color matching. Since I’m very pale I start with the lightest shade. My choice was Pale Ivory 091 which is good match though a tad darker than I prefer.

I sometimes mix in a drop of Manic Panic Dreamtone Flawless Foundation Color Corrector in white with this and other foundations. This $9.24 product has saved me so many times and makes foundations too dark usable again.Depending on what you read Rimmel Lasting Finish is either a medium or full coverage. I’d say it’s in between. It’s very lightweight to apply and doesn’t feel heavy or look cakey. There is a fragrance to it that takes about 10 minutes before I stop noticing it but that doesn’t stop me.
SHEAMOISTURE WEIGHTLESS SHEA SERUM FOUNDATION

Lisa and I reviewed 3 shades of the SheaMoisture Serum Foundation in one of our side by side reviews. Above are Nude and Latte from Lisa and below is Porcelain that I use.

By coincidence I’m wearing this foundation as I type. I find this to be such an easy to wear foundation. It lays lightly on my skin yet the coverage is excellent. No matter what tool I chose to blend with, it always works well. In my original review of this I compared this $14.99 foundation to my $65 bottle of Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation SPF40 and the only difference is the $40 saved and the fact that there’s no SPF in SheaMoisture.

While the SheaMoisture was a press sample it’s one I’d buy again without any qualms. It’s formulated with natural ingredients and never tested on amimals. It contains shea butter and Vitamins C & E to nourish, protect and moisturize. Available in 20 shades with most designated for darker skintones.
MAYBELLINE INSTANT AGE REWIND TREATMENT CONCEALERS

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer
In actuality, the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealers are the only ones currently in my makeup wardrobe. Any others are long gone. But these have made the cut and make me want to try Maybelline’s latest concealers. Sadly no personal pictures since I lost them and haven’t found a way to upload photos but… I can still vouch for these. I bought 3 different shades: #110 is the shade I use for concealer, #150 is their neutralizer shade , and #160 is their brightener shade. I’ve only used 110 and 160 so far and they do what they say. #110 is good for those of us with pale skin. It’s not a wimpy concealer, the coverage is quite nice. #160 is slightly peachy and I use this to brighten undereye circles. The formula is quite creamy and a little goes a long way.

As tempting as it is for me to use the cushy sponge top, it’s too heavy an application so I dot it on and then blend with my finger. Age Rewind contains goji berry and haloxen to help diminish puffiness and dark circles under your eyes. #150 is for very stubborn dark circles and should be applied prior to any other concealer.
There you have my drugstore buys. What do you use and recommend? I’m always curious and up for new challenges. — Marcia
