Makeup Revolution The One Stick

Makeup Revolution The One Stick

There are 4 different The One Sticks so picking out just one is going to be a challenge. Makeup Revolution thought of everything with these sticks. First is Contour and Perfect with its counterpart Highlight and Perfect. The two Blush Sticks are both matte shades that can be used on cheeks or lips: Matte Rush (coral) and Matte Malibu (tan). With all 4 of these ONE Sticks directions say to use them dry for Hi Intensity and wet for Smooth Sheer Finish. I don’t find them efficient wet. I can’t blend them properly if I try so all my comments are about using these dry.

THE ONE SCULPT CONTOUR STICK is meant to Contour and Perfect. This stick is a matte contour that goes on intensely when applied straight from the tube. On someone super fair (aka me) I dab it on and then blend with my fingers or a beauty sponge. The color appears to be a very dark brown without any orange tint to it. But once blended it is lighter and workable. For contouring purposes apply this down the sides of your nose and blend, then under the cheekbones or jawbone and blend. A contour brush is also a great tool for this particular stick.

THE ONE HIGHLIGHT CONTOUR STICK is made to highlight and perfect. This stick is the only one of the four that isn’t matte. It has some sparkle to it giving it the ability to illuminate what you want illuminated. It’s very creamy, much more so than the other sticks. When you see my pictures I hope you won’t gasp. I dropped mine and made a big mess trying to put it together. I still use it but it’s not a pretty sight.

THE ONE BLUSH STICK in MATTE RUSH is a beautiful bright coral. I almost fell over the first time I used it because of the intensity of the color. But it is too pretty to ignore and I think it’s very flattering once blended properly. Some people may find that they need several strokes but if you are fair this covers beautifully in ONE. The key with these all is to blend, blend, blend. To wear as a lip product apply with a lip brush or your finger since the wideness of the top isn’t quite lip shape.

THE ONE BLUSH STICK in MATTE MALIBU is the warm tan companion. I have a lot of cream blushes but nothing in this shade. While it’s not one I’ll use often, it does come in handy for me. I think a darker skintone than mine would love using this.

Now you’ll see what I mean about intensity. The following is one swipe but done heavily.

I’ve found so much from Makeup Revolution to buy. The brand is affordable and Ulta often has it on special – right now it’s BOGO 1/2 for the entire line so you could get 2 of these for just $13.50 or one and something else from them. If you are always complaining that cream products get eaten by your skin then The ONE Stick in any of the iterations are the ones for you to try. They glide on easily, blend wonderfully, and are creamy as can be. Which color would you pick?  —  Marcia

Variety galore with Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold Ultra Blush Palette

Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold Blush Palette

Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold Blush Palette

If you are ready for the prettiest blush palette of the season, I have the perfect solution for you. Just check out the Makeup Revolution Ultra Blush Palette, Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold. Be ready to swoon. When I was sent this palette for review my mouth totally dropped open when I took it out of the box.

Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold Blush Palette

Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold Blush Palette

I stared at it for so long because I couldn’t believe the gorgeous shades it contained. As a fan of rose gold in my fashion and cosmetic life I was eager to receive this and the realization is better than I ever expected. The palette consists of 4 baked powder shades, 2 shiny highlighters, and 2 matte pressed powder shades for bronzing or blushing.

Makeup Revolution Ultra Blush Palette Golden Sugar 2

Makeup Revolution Ultra Blush Palette Golden Sugar 2

Numbers 1 through 4 are the ones I’m getting the most use out of. #1 is a soft warm pink, #2 is a beautiful swirly peach, #3 is a glowy light creamy peach, while #4 is a stunning glowy rose. These all feel like they are baked powders so they aren’t particular soft when you touch them with your fingers but they apply beautifully with any brush I’ve used.

Now comes the variety since I like to mix and match all the shades in the palette. I like to layer these and as I’m typing this out I’m wearing number 1 and 7 as my cheek color.

Top row swatches 1, 3, 5, 7 Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar 2

Top row swatches 1, 3, 5, 7 Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar 2

#5 is a simply amazing gold that makes a fabulous highlighter. Plus I wear this on my eyes. This is very soft and it doesn’t take a lot to get a glowy yellow gold that is so striking. #6 is the only one that has any glitter to it and even then the glitter isn’t overwhelming. #6 is the one that gives this palette its Rose Gold name. It’s not subtle on me but it is gorgeous.

#7 is so soft to the touch, I find it to be mauve on me but I think different skin tones will pick this up differently. I consider this a bronzer but that’s because I don’t wear brown bronzers. #8 is the brownest shade in the palette but it’s such a light shade on me that it’s perfect.

There is so much diversity in this palette that it will keep you blushing and glowing through fall and beyond. The best part is that it’s $10 – that’s it – just $10 for 8 colors!

Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold Ultra Blush Palette and Chauffeur lipstick

Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold Ultra Blush Palette and Chauffeur lipstick

We can’t stop with just blush when we know that there are 5 lipsticks in this Rose Gold collection. 5 for the price of $5 each. 5 creamy, smooth, pigmented, non-fragranced lipsticks! I have Chauffeur which is ideal for my taste and there’s also Red Carpet (red), Private Members Club (black), Diamond Life (chocolate), and Girl’s Best Friend (bright pink).

Makeup Revolution Chauffeur Lipstick

Makeup Revolution Chauffeur Lipstick

Chauffeur is a rose nude I can wrap my head around – actually wrap my lips around. It’s not deathly pale but it’s light. I look like I’m wearing lipstick when it’s on. If I want to deepen it then I’ll use a lipliner all over which also assists the lipstick in lasting for a longer time. The packaging of the Rose Gold collection is contemporary and rich looking. No one would expect this to be as well priced as it is.

My friend Helen from Lola’s Secret Beauty Blog has some fabulous swatch pictures if you want to see an artist at work.

Let’s start a Makeup Revolution – we can begin with Shimmer Brick Radiant

Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick Radiant

Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick Radiant

Remember when the first shimmer brick became available? I do and I remember wanting it badly but I never did buy it. It was too expensive and it was too shimmery for me. I tested it so many times yet walked away looking like a glitter ball. Sadness prevailed. When Makeup Revolution sent their Shimmer Brick Radiant I was afraid, very afraid!! I thought it was just beautiful but all I could remember is the glitter ball. But I’m a champ and giving this a go was the only way to find out my results.

Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick Radiant (overhead light)

Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick Radiant (overhead light)

The results are positive. This $7 palette (exclusive to Ulta) is everything I was hoping for years ago. There’s a glow to it but there’s surprisingly no glitter. I was truly amazed by that fact. There are 5 shades in it that blend together beautifully to give me a golden peach glow. It’s not a palette I can wear on an everyday basis but nothing with this much gleam ever is.

Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick Radiant

Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick Radiant individual swatches

There are two Makeup Revolution Vivid Shimmer Bricks, Radiant and Rose Gold. Rose Gold would be better for darker skin tones than mine.

The best way I’ve found to use this is to take a large fluffy brush and highlight my cheeks. I can then use a smaller brush to bring attention to certain areas. The lighter shades work for me along my upper cheekbones.

Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick Radiant blended

Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick Radiant blended

The individual shades can be used as eyeshadows but I’d only do that in a pinch. A good eyeshadow primer is needed to make the shades adhere better since these are powdery. When I tried it I made sure that I tapped off excess in my sink so I wouldn’t have massive fallout. The colors are beautiful on.

Here’s some hints from Makeup Revolution on how to create a glowing, radiant skin:

“For glowing, radiant skin:

  • Select a powder blush that contains a slight shimmer.
  • Start by applying the blush to the apples of your cheeks. Then slightly extend under the cheek bones.
  • Lightly dust Makeup Revolution USA’s Vivid Shimmer Brick in Radiant on the top of your cheekbones; the light will naturally reflect off of it.
  • You can opt to mix all of the tones together for a multidimensional glow or you can pick and choose one by one for the desired effect.
  • Besides the cheekbones, you can add shimmer down the nose, between your eyebrows, or on your temples and chin.
  • For the eyes, sweep product on the lids and around the corners. For an enhanced eye, add the lighter tones under the brow bone.”

If you are as fascinated by highlighters as I am, Makeup Revolution needs to be #1 on your list. For $7 you can look and feel radiant.

Splurge vs Steal with Urban Decay, Covergirl, NYC Lovatics, Makeup Revolution USA

close up of usa dollar money and piggy bank

It’s time for a new Makeup Wars and I’m excited about this one. I can’t wait to read what the other bloggers have chosen as their SPLURGE vs STEAL items. For my edition I decided to stick with neutral palettes since they are so popular. Urban Decay Naked palettes started the craze with Too Faced Chocolate Bar and Chocolate Bon Bons following. At $54 and $49 respectively it’s hard to own all the ones you are interested in…. so here comes the steals.

I read this type of article often in magazines and the first thing that comes to my mind is the question of Quality. Yes, two items may look similar, but is the steal something you’d want to wear/use? I have made sure that my steals are ones that I can recommend without question.

URBAN DECAY is the brand that I believe has led the way into the neutral revolution. They have excellent marketing and know how to get the word out with some cutting edge products. Just look at how they’ve promoted the Gwen Steffani items! People are going nuts over them. Also their Naked palettes don’t go out of favor. When I was pulling this together I realized that I can’t find my Naked Basics and Naked 2. Just because they are older doesn’t make them any less relevant and now I’m thinking about purchasing them. I looked to see how to compare my ‘steals’ to my Urban Decay and Too Faced. I hope I’ve succeeded.

NYC Lovatics by Demi

NYC Lovatics by Demi

NYC Cosmetics has a new collection in collaboration with Demi Lovato. I received several items that I’ll be reviewing in full and I’m loving them. This $6.99 palette LOVATICS BY DEMI is incredible and a perfect match for the original URBAN DECAY NAKED PALETTE. $6.99. vs $54. Now that’s what I call a Splurge vs Steal. When you find this at Walmart, Target or wherever NYC is sold, grab it before it’s too late.

URBAN DECAY NAKED 3 vs ULTA ROSE GOLD PALETTE

These two are so close that I can blindly reach for either to achieve the same looks. This is a $54 vs $20 Splurge vs Steal except that Ulta’s palette is always on sale and you can use their coupons. This particular week all ULTA products are buy 2 get 2 free, last week this palette was $12.

MAKEUP REVOLUTION USA AFFIRMATION vs URBAN DECAY SMOKY and TOO FACED CHOCOLATE BONBONS

There are 32 eyeshadows in MAKEUP REVOLUTION’S AFFIRMATION PALETTE. This Ulta exclusive is $15 with BOGO 1/2 currently going on. It’s also available with the $3.50 coupon that Ulta advertises. I had to seek out two palettes to match up with the AFFIRMATION palette because it has so many versatile shades.

Makeup Revolution Affirmation palette

Makeup Revolution Affirmation palette

Urban Decay Naked Smoky contains these shades: champagne shimmer micro-glitter, medium bronze, metallic taupe iridescent micr-glitter, metallic silver taupe tonal sparkle, light metallic gray, medium charcoal micro glitter, jet black satin, deep plum taupe, cool taupe matte, rich brown matte, soft pink taupe and light beige satin. Look at the above picture – recognize those shades?

Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons contains these shades: matte mauve, cool greige, matte suede, matte plum brown, gilded rose, electric fuchsia pearl, cherry cola shimmer, satin nude, smokey sapphire, deep metallic amethyst, gilded cocoa, metallic taupe, metallic cocoa bronze, and matte warm cream. You can find duplicates of all these shades in the Makeup Revolution Affirmation palette too.

While I love my Urban Decay palettes I shudder thinking about how much money they’ve cost me. Makeup Revolution USA Affirmation isn’t as pigmented as UD and TF but I end up with the same colors and looks. I’m the only one that knows that the Affirmation palette costs a fraction of the other too.

COVERGIRL TRUNAKED NUDES

Covergirl trunaked Nudes

Covergirl trunaked Nudes

Last is the Covergirl trunaked Nudes palette which is a beautiful rendition of a nude palette. The colors are exactly what you need to create daily looks as well as smoky eyes. The palette sells for approximately $12.99 but you can find sales on it. Currently at Ulta it’s $11.98 with a BOGO 1/2 on Covergirl products. I have been blown away by the color and quality of this palette.

I think these steals are pretty fabulous and the true definition of Splurge vs Steal without compromising quality. What’s your favorite steal?  –  Marcia

Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever 32 Piece Eyeshadow Palette

After hearing nothing but raves for the London-based Makeup Revolution line, I couldn’t wait to dive into the Mermaids Forever Eyeshadow Palette we were sent to review. Available in the states at Ulta, this affordable cruelty-free line is fun and definitely worth checking out.

Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever

Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever

When I saw the name “Mermaids Forever” I was actually expecting 32 variations of green and blue. Surprisingly, there is a wide range of shades in this pretty palette – everything from sheer light cream to deep dark plum.

Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever

Mermaids Forever has 32 eyeshadow shades in a variety of matte, shimmer, and metallic finishes – definitely something for everyone in this palette! Looking at the rows vertically there are shades of cream, orange, pink, purple, blue, green, brown, and gray.

The first vertical row of lighter shades are less pigmented and take quite a bit of packing on for any oomph. The darker shades, however, have terrific pigmentation and are wonderfully blendable. I always use an eyeshadow primer and with a primer I find these shadows last all day. While the size of the eyeshadows is small, this palette has enough variety to last a very long time.

My favorite shades are the browns and oranges, which is slightly ironic as I don’t think of those as being very mermaid-y. Regardless, I think Mermaids Forever is a versatile palette that I know will get tons of use. At the bargain price of $15 this is a palette that should be in everyone’s arsenal.  – Lisa

Favorite eyeshadow palettes for fall

While this is supposed to be Top 10 Tuesday for me it’s Top 7 Tuesday. I decided to just choose eyeshadow palettes I own and rely on rather than make a wishlist. I’m excited about my choices and recommend all of these highly. Some were received for review, others were bought, and all are loved and recommended.

LANCOME AUDA(CITY) in PARIS ($68)

LANCOME AUDA[CITY] IN PARIS

LANCOME AUDA[CITY] IN PARIS

This is the first Lancome palette I’ve bought in years. There are 16 shades in 4 finishes. They are set up almost like four individual palettes. The colors are Filigree (light gold shimmer), Choquette (peach matte), Parfait (light pink matte), Kitten Heel (gold copper shimmer) , Joie (golden brown shimmer), Voyage (muted purple matte), Sante (brown matte), Éclair (purple metallic), Exhibition (orchid shimmer), Zip Me Up (deep purple shimmer), Volcano (silvery gray shimmer),  Clock Strikes 12 (gray metallic), Audacious (smokey brown shimmer), Couture (dark brown matte), It List (black matte), Nuit (deep charcoal metallic).  This palette was designed by Lisa Eldridge who was inspired by the streets of Paris. It’s the kind of palette that takes you from day to night, from running errands or going to work to a soiree. After seeing so much hype about the palette I instantly bought it during a Lancome GWP and I’m glad that I did.

TOM FORD NUDE DIP ($80)

I reviewed this much loved palette (here) so you can see fresh pictures of it. This contains a light gold, a light rose gold, a medium taupe and a chocolate brown. It’s my one and only TF palette and if they were all like this without glitter but lots of sheen, I’d own them all.

BUTTER LONDON NATURAL CHARM ($39)*

butter LONDON now has eyeshadows called Shadow Clutches and I’m loving it. There are two ShadowClutch palettes – Natural Charm and Pretty Proper.  The shades in Natural Charm are Linen (Matte Vanilla), Quartz (Warm Beige Sheen), Camo (Dark Khaki Sheen), Camel (Matte Nude), Citrine (Coral Sheen), Leather (Matte Chocolate Brown. These are primer infused and the pigments are great. A full review is on the way.

MAKEUP REVOLUTION LONDON in MERMAIDS FOREVER ($15)*

Makeup Revolution in Mermaids Forever

This beautiful Ulta exclusive has 32 shades that will satisfy the needs of everyone. I know it’s early for Christmas presents but this would be a delight for any makeup lover to find in a pile of gifts. It’s affordable enough that you can buy it for gifts and one for yourself. While the theme is Mermaids with its beautiful blues, teals, and greens you’ll also find a bevy of neutrals. Makeup Revolution is a UK brand that only came to the US at Ulta stores in the summer. No swatches yet of this but they’ll be coming.

BUXOM CUSTOMIZABLE PALETTES ($40)

After using a buxom Customizable Palette and finding the pigmentation to be utterly amazing, I just had to put together one in the neutral family. Be sure you buy this in one bundle since separately the eyeshadows ($12 each) and empty palette would be $112. The colors in my palette are Champagne Buzz (shimmering pearl), Haute Couture (metallic java), Jetsetter (matte greige), Satin Seduction (Bisque Luster), Mix & Mingle (matte vanilla), Style Icon (Mettalic Taupe). I think you’ll have better luck finding these at Sephora since they are selling like hotcakes online.

SLEEK MAKEUP i-DIVINE STORM PALETTE ($11.99)*

Sleek Makeup Storm Palette

Sleek MakeUP Storm Palette

Sleek is another brand from the UK and is one of the most coveted brands from there. There are a lot of Sleek MakeUP iDivine palettes and I was lucky to get Storm which was one I’ve been eager to try. The shades are Sand Storm (golden brown, Snow Storm (lighter gold), Calm Before the Storm (matte beige, Thunder Storm (brassy gold), Perfect Storm (rose gold), Firestorm (bronze), Dust Storm (deeper bronze), Gathering Storm (dark pewter), Storm Cloud (teal pewter), Electric Storm (shimmery navy), Eye of the Storm (matte light brown), Blackout (matte black). What I love about this palette is that there’s a mix of matte and satin shades. Full review will follow.

MAKE UP FOR EVER 9 ARTIST SHADOW PALETTE VOLUME 1 (NUDES YOU NEED) ($42)

Make Up For Ever 9 Shadow Artist Palette volume 1

Make Up For Ever 9 Shadow Artist Palette volume 1

Make Up For Ever’s 9 Shadow Artist Palette is the oldest one in this group. Did I need another neutral palette? Of course not and at first I was a little sorry I bought it. But once I started using it I realized there were some shades that I really liked. These shades are available individually but putting 9 in a palette makes it a better buy. The shades are (going down the rows) I-528 Pearl, S-556 Taupe Gray, S-102 Onyx, I-514 Pink Ivory, D-562 Taupe Platinum, I-544 Pink Granite, ME-512 Golden Beige, ME-644 Iced Brown, D-652 Celestial Earth so it runs the gamut of finishes. I get the most use out of Pearl, Pink Ivory, Pink Granite, Golden Beige and Iced Brown. The two shades marked D (diamond) are too glittery for me) and I don’t line with black so Onyx is pristine. But 6 out of this palette makes this a buy I no longer regret.
