4 essential products to get ‘game day’ glam!

Football season is in full swing, and in Michigan people take this game very, very seriously.  Pro football is huge, and so is high school football.  My goodness, our high schools even have a class called ‘Football Advanced Training”.  Whether you are out tailgating at the stadium or hosting a game day at home, it’s far more fun when you are feeling glam.  Here are four products sent to the BIZ that will help you get your glam on.

Looks like the aliens have landed!

These ultra cute, super affordable lip balms have hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C so they leave lips incredibly soft and supple.  Plus they are awesome conversation starters.  Every time I use one people ask what the heck it is…and I am always happy to share!  I don’t even know which one is my favorite, the delicious tingly Vanilla Mint or the creamy, soothing Coconut Milk.  Trust me, you want to pick up one of these really neat lip balms.   They are available at Target, Walmart, Ulta, Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, Drugstore.com and EvolutionOfSmooth.com.

Whish Deodorant Swipes…super convenient!

The weather can still be pretty warm, and sitting in the stands can be a rather sweaty experience.  Just pop a few Whish Deodorant Swipes ($8) in your purse, and you’ll be able to freshen up any time.  With consistent use, these also inhibit hair growth – that’s a pretty nice side effect.  You can find them at Nordstom.com.

Take the day off with Japonesque Pro Performance Makeup Wipes

Take the day off with Japonesque Pro Performance Makeup Wipes

Speaking of handy, Japonesque Pro Makeup Artist Wipes ($12.50 for 20 wipes) are the absolute definition.  Stadiums and game stands can be grimy and dirty, and these wipes dissolve away dirt, not to mention makeup.  They are great for last-minute touch-ups, and even better for wiping away the day after game time is over.  The vitamin E helps to ensure your skin is all ready to be glammed up for the next game time.  You can find these at Ulta.

With these four beauty necessities, every game day is a glam day.  It’s everything you need to start with Friday Night football and keep on going through Sunday!  – Lisa

Top 5 homemade skin care treatments with coconut oil

Nutiva collageSince I write about beauty for a living, I spend a lot of time researching skin care ingredients and how they affect the skin and body. I am also fascinated with ingredients that work from the inside out, like vitamins and foods that help create a strong body and a beautiful complexion.  I’ve started incorporating coconut oil into my diet in place of butter, shortening, and vegetable oil because it does three things:  1.  is easily processed by the liver into lots of energy; 2.  protects the body from infections, heart disease, and illness; and 3.  helps you lose weight.  Not only that, it tastes terrific.  So when Nutiva sent us their Coconut Oil (15 fl. oz $11.99), I was already happy – but not as happy as I became when I realized what a great ingredient it is for topical skin care.

Nutiva Coconut Oil - organic and sustainable

Nutiva Coconut Oil – organic and sustainable

Coconut oil is solid at lower temperatures, and liquefies at temps above 76 degrees farenheit.  I find it’s best for skin care recipes when it is at that ‘almost about to melt’ stage.  I’ve tried tons of recipes for face masks, body scrubs, face cleansers, and hair treatments, and these are my top five favorites. Be sure to use organic and raw ingredients when you can!

1.  Coconut oil hand and body scrub

1 tablespoon coconut oil, 2 tablespoons honey, 1/4 cup sea salt, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Mix together and use this in the shower or just leave it next to the sink for a quick hand scrub.  It leaves hands super soft and moisturized.

2.  Moisturizing coconut oil facial mask

2 tablespoons coconut oil, 1 tablespoon honey, 1/2 mashed avocado

Mix together and apply immediately.  Leave it on for 20 – 30 minutes then rinse off.  This gives skin a great glow!

3.  Coconut oil facial cleanser

1 tablespoon coconut oil, 2 drops tea tree oil, 2 drops lavender oil – add some lemon juice if your skin is oily or prone to blackheads

This mixture dissolves even the most tenacious makeup and leaves skin hydrated.  Be sure to avoid the eye area – use straight coconut oil to remove eye makeup.  It’s the best.

4.  Coconut oil foot scrub

3 tablespoons coconut oil, 1 tablespoon brown sugar.

After scrubbing and rinsing off this scrub, apply straight coconut oil to feet then cover with socks – in the morning your feet will be amazingly soft.

5.  Coconut oil hair mask

1 tablespoon coconut oil, 1 tablespoon honey – double the recipe for long hair.  Heat the mixture up on the stove for a great hot oil treatment.  Apply to dry hair from roots to ends, cover with a shower cap and let soak in for a half hour.  Then, shampoo and condition like normal and you will be astounded at how soft and shiny your hair has become.

Nutiva Coconut Oil

Nutiva Coconut Oil

Coconut oil by itself makes a great eye cream, lip moisturizer, and makeup remover!  I particularly like Nutiva Coconut Oil because it is:

  • Organic
  • Non-GMO
  • Virgin
  • Non-hydrogenated
  • No cholesterol
  • Made from fresh coconuts

Give homemade skin care treatments a try.  It’s a lot of fun, and the results are fabulous.  With the holidays coming up, homemade skin care treatments in cute little jars make great gifts (except for the one with avocado – that has to be used immediately).  Believe me, coconut oil is going to become your best friend, both in recipes for food and in recipes for skin care.  – Lisa

La Fresh – better than baby wipes and perfect for removing Halloween makeup

la fresh logoOn a recent car trip to Florida, I found myself buying baby wipes for the first time in about 7 years. I have a new car and I didn’t want anything to get sticky or messy on the way. I ended up regretting my purchase – I didn’t get unscented and I found the wipes to be heavy and unpleasant. Icky, really. Then La Fresh sent the BIZ some different wipes to try out, and boy was that a V-8 moment.  I think these individually packages wet wipes are genius.

All of these wipes are available in individual packets, or in larger packages, and be sure to check out the excellent combo packs. Believe me, whatever your needs are, La Fresh Travel-Lite has a wipe for you!

The wet wipes that La Fresh makes are for adults, not for babies (well, except for their baby wipes, lol! And they do have some just for dogs!). The variety is mind-boggling – so are the amount of ideas I have for gifting them!

La Fresh constantly continues to do research and to develop more products – all of which are environmentally responsible – to try to meet every need you may have. Here are some of my favorites:

La Fresh

La Fresh Facial Cleansing Wipes and Makeup Remover Wipes

La Fresh

La Fresh Antibacterial Wipes and Nail Polish Remover Pads

There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t need these four wipes! Of course they are perfect for travel and I keep some in my glove box at all times. I also keep some at work just in case. And with Halloween coming up, what could be better? If you are going to a party or hosting one, your guests will be grateful to find a basket of these goodies available in the rest room. And think of how handy these will be to get rid of sticky candy fingers…just perfect.

La Fresh

La Fresh Antiperspirant Wipes for Men…and for Women

La Fresh

La Fresh Hygiene Wipes for Women…and for Men

Nothing smells worse than stress sweat. But you can duck into the restroom, use one of the La Fresh Antiperspirant Wipes and be back to good smelling in no time. I absolutely love that they have specific wipes for women and specific ones for men. And the Hygiene Wipes? Look, it’s not comfortable to talk about, but everyone at some time will need one of these. Better to be safe than sorry and have a few of these tucked away in your purse, gym bag, or in your desk drawer.

La Fresh

La Fresh Insect Repellent Wipes

These work great! I love how the Insect Repellent Wipes are chemical-free and I tested them right after a big rain when the air was full of mosquitos. You never know when you’ll need one of these so I always have some handy.

La Fresh

La Fresh Lens & Cleaning Wipe and Shoe Shine Wipe

Now here are two excellent ideas for wipes!! A tissue often can’t really clean glasses properly, and boy if you can’t see you are in trouble. It also works great for mirrors and for computer screens. And I love the Shoe Shine Wipes! These make scuffs disappear and shoes look soft and brand new again.

Every wipe I tried worked like a charm. See for yourself – here is a clip,  Zombie vs. La Fresh Makeup Remover, that shows how terrific the Makeup Wipe is.

I absolutely think you should invest in some wipes for yourself – they aren’t expensive, and having these on hand in your car, at work, and in your purse can make any super stressful situation much, much easier. They are fantastic for trips and think of all the great gifting ideas – I am putting together a collection for my son at college. My daughters are going to find some of them in their stockings at Christmas. And every time I have people over, a basket of these will be in every bathroom just in case. There are so many possibilities it’s terrific! Head on over to La Fresh to take a look for yourself.  – Lisa

Lisa from Beauty Info Zone visits her fantasy Desert Island

My fellow Beauty Spotlight bloggers have banished me to a desert island, and I can only bring 12 products (with sunscreen and lip balm already generously provided).  Ok, it’s my fantasy so I am going to let you know up front I am NOT going alone. Nope, on my trip to a deserted island I am accompanied by JOE.

One sniff of Lavanila Vanilla Coconut and I am here. With Joe.

Here’s my deserted island. And here is Joe.

Joe and I are going to be spending a LOT of time together so I kept that in mind when selecting my twelve items.  Here’s what I am packing for my romantic retreat… I mean desert island experience.

1. Beautisol Dark Self Tanner ($39):  I’m not going to tan in the sun, but a tan makes you look thinner, healthier, and it covers so many flaws!!  Before hanging out with Joe, I am first going to slather myself from head to toe with self tanner. Beautisol Dark Self Tanner is my go-to for a full body tan.

Beautisol Summer Glow Dark Tan

2. MAC Blot Powder ($24):  I live in fear of walking around with a shiny nose so I always have this with me.  It’s the perfect pressed powder.

3. It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Concealer  ($24):  It’s full coverage, it’s waterproof, and it covers my dark undereye circles beautifully.  Joe and I may be staying up REALLY late at night, but it won’t show under my eyes!

Bye Bye Under Eye

4. MAC Paint Pot in Painterly ($18.50):  I am quite sure I’m not going to be doing full eye makeup on a desert island, but MAC’s Paint Pot in Painterly is my go-to for a clean, finished eye look in seconds.  This creamy eyeshadow dries down quickly and stays all day, and it never creases or cakes on me.

5. Paula’s Choice Gentle Touch Makeup Remover ($12.95):  I need a cleanser, cause there is no way I am going to get stuck with a blemish on this trip! This is the very best makeup remover I have ever found. It’s super gentle so it doesn’t irritate the eyes, but at the same time it removes even the most stubborn makeup. Another plus – it has anti-irritants that help reduce puffiness.

6. VENNeffect Anti-Aging Lip Treatment ($85):  I have issues with hereditary vertical wrinkle lines around my lips – and this stuff truly reduces their appearance. I’m not going anywhere without it.

7. Besame Sweetheart Balm in Cherry ($18):  I can’t believe I am picking a lip gloss that’s in a pot – sticking sandy fingers into lip gloss doesn’t sound good at all. But I just adore the unbelievable slip and texture of this gloss and the color is simply perfect with tanned skin.

8. Sugar Works Body Gloss in Tybee Island Beach Cottage ($12.95):  I love their body oil, it leaves skin super moist but not wet, and the scent really becomes one with your body so it seems like you just naturally smell that way. This scent is described as “Sun, the ocean, warm sand, beach grass, wild beach flowers, a touch of suntan oil.” For sure Joe won’t be able to keep his hands off me.

9. Beach Day Spray by Unite ($29.95):  This is the best spray for that wavy, beachy look because it smells amazing and doesn’t leave your air-dried hair crunchy.

10. Whatever Lola Wants from the Lippmann Collection ($17):  This is my most favorite summer nail color of all time. It’s a beautiful shimmery lilac/lavender/pink and it looks especially amazing in the sun. This color makes me feel cute and sexy all at the same time.

11.  Body Glide from Athleta ($8):  This is a terrific way to prevent blisters on your feet and chafing around sports bras, plus it does extra duty moisturizing dry, cracked skin. You can insert your own joke about how with Body Glide I won’t have to worry about chafed thighs.

12.  My Poipu hat from Athleta:  I LOVE this sun hat. It has a nice foldable brim that is perfect for shading your eyes, but isn’t so big you bump into things as you walk. Squish it into your beach bag, and it pops right back into shape when you put it on.  It’s on sale now too for only $29.99 – sheesh, I paid $54 for mine!! You can find the hat HERE.

There’s my list! I’d invite you along, but Joe and I are in some serious need of ‘alone time’.  Aloha!  – Lisa
