We’re back with another blog hop. The last blog hop we were a part of was fun and successful so Beauty Info Zone decided to join in with Life Is A Beach. As a cosmetic review blog we love to have cosmetic giveaways and that’s exactly what you’ll find at this stop.

Rules first though. This is open for subscribers only so if you don’t want to subscribe don’t enter. It’s also open to US and Canada only. We always have two mandatory tasks: be a Beauty Info Zone subscriber (see very top of the blog page and/or to the right) and comment on the post. That’s it. Other Rafflecopter entries are there to give you extra chances. The daily tweets really do help.

Be a Showstopper with Makeup Geek Creme Stains

Makeup Geek Showstopper Creme Stains

I hope you are reading this on April 15th as it’s the perfect day to buy Makeup Geek lip products. Last week Lisa wrote about the stunning Foiled Lip Glosses and this week I’m going to tell you about Showstopper Creme Stains. And why do I hope you are reading this on the 15th? Because through the end of the day all Makeup Geek lip products are 40% off. That my friends is called a steal. Makeup Geek already prices their products at reasonable levels but 40% off should be the tipping point. So many of these beauties are sold out so hurry, hurry!!

UPDATE UPDATE: Makeup Geek is now on Target’s website. This is brand new. Here are the shades of Showstopper they have. This is so exciting!!

Waltz – warm medium tan shade
Flamenco – ox-blood red shade
Cha Cha – medium rose pink shade.
Quickstep – cool toned beige
Mambo – berry pink shade
Jitterbug – light intense coral shade
Arabesque – pale cool lavender shade
Do-Si-Do – light buff shade
Tango – brightened pinky coral shade
Foxtrot – warm pinky nude shade

samples,

Showstopper Creme Stains look like a gloss, apply like a gloss, but aren’t a gloss. Instead these 18 long lasting shades are a liquid lipstick that doesn’t feel goopy or dry, ever! These can be built up or reapplied during the day which is what I really appreciate about them.

Makeup Geek Jitterbug Showstopper wand

I was sent three different shades – 2 of which I can easily wear and 1 which is stretching it for someone “over the hill”. But with 18 shades there’s something for everyone, even green lipstick lovers.

Let me start with my favorite and the one I’ve been wearing all the time. FOXTROT is called a warm pinky nude. I see the warmth and feel it’s like a very light mauve that’s on the warm side.

Makeup Geek FoxTrot Showstopper

Makeup Geek Fox Trot Showstopper (image from Makeupgeek.com)

This is a shade that makes me feel comfortable. It’s in my comfort zone and my husband never has wise cracks about the shade. (He doesn’t like me in dark shades). The color looks well with other favorite cosmetics.

some of my favorite Makeup Geek products (blush, eyeshadow and highlighter)

Next is Jitterbug, I love the name! It’s a lot brighter than I normally wear but it’s such a perfect spring shade that I’ll often wear it over a very light lipstick to tone it down. But for 90% of you it’s the coral that you’ll look terrific wearing. MUG calls it a light intense coral which is on the spot.

Makeup Geek Jitterbug Showstopper

Makeup Geek Showstoppers in Twerk, Jitterbug, Fox Trot

Sadly those two are currently sold out so you’ll have to put them on your wishlist but you can buy TWERK! I’m not sure a rich forest green will suit everyone but it’s perfect for the festivals going on.

Makeup Geek Twerk Showstopper

Other shades that aren’t sold out that look great to me are

Makeup Geek Showstopper Creme Stains in Fox Trot, Jitterbug, Tango, Salsa, Flamenco

Makeup Geek Showstopper in Mambo, Cha Cha, Bunny Hop, Moonwalk, Arabesque

Take advantage of the MUG sale and while shopping look at other cosmetics there like their wonderful highlighters, blush, and eyeshadows. Makeup Geek wants you to always look your best and be a Showstopper.  —  Marcia

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss – swatches for VIP, Set List, Drumroll, Groupie, Mixtape

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss

The gorgeous Marlena, aka Makeup Geek, has some fantastic lip products and we have lots of swatches for you!  This week I have Foiled Lip Glosses ($15), and next Sunday Marcia has Showstopper Cream Lip Stain Lip Glosses.

samples

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss

The Foiled Lip Glosses are truly dreamy. My oh my these are good!! The texture is incredible – soft with great slip, yet they last for about six hours. The pigment is fantastic, with tons of reflective metallic shine. This is the most comfy lip gloss ever and I just can’t believe the finish…anything else I’ve worn with a mirror gloss is somewhat uncomfortable, but this is sooo nice. Amazing!

The gloss is NOT sticky and it is NOT frosty. The shine is on point, the shimmer is fab, there is no taste and no fragrance. Makeup Geek has a 100% total winner here. Wowza.  I have five of the ten shades available with swatches for you.  First up is the lightest shade, VIP.

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss in VIP

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss in VIP

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss in VIP (from Makeup Geek website)

VIP is a light peachy pink.  It’s dark enough to work for my thin lips…anything too nude and I just look washed out, but this has enough tint to show up.  Actually, I find that if I apply another coat the color gets more intense and deeper. It’s a very pretty, girly shade that isn’t frosty. I love it.

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss in Set List

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss in Set List

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss in Set List (from Makeup Geek website)

Set List is a medium rose with light pink reflects. This is my favorite of the five shades. Look at how beautiful this is!!  This is a perfect spring/summer shade, and if you are only going to buy one lip gloss to transition into the new season this should be it.

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss in Mixtape

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss in Mixtape

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss in Mix Tape (from Makeup Geek website)

Mixtape is a rosy plum that is really gorgeous – look at the foil effect with this one! It’s not very flattering on my thin lips, but if you have full lips you will rock it. I think this will especially remarkable on darker skin tones.

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss in Drumroll

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss in Drumroll

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss in Drum Roll (from Makeup Geek website)

Drumroll is a mid-toned purple with pink reflects, another darker shade that has a marvelous metallic finish. The wear time for this baby is insane – I put this on and I swear it lasted a full seven hours.

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss in Groupie

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss in Groupie

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss in Groupie (from Makeup Geek website)

Groupie is a brightened fuchsia with purple reflects. This is not as bright with one coat, which is how I wear it and it still lasts a good six hours.  If you want it bright, add another coat and it really gets that mirror effect.

Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss swatches, left to right: Set List, VIP, Groupie, Drumroll, Mixtape

I think the Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Glosses are to die for. I am beyond impressed by these lovelies! Other shades available include Acoustic, rich ox blood-red; Backstage,  deep purple with royal blue reflects; Headliner, rich copper; Replay,  bright pinky coral; and Vinyl, a medium taupe with silver reflects and subtle purple undertones.

Be sure to check out Marcia’s review next Sunday on Makeup Geek’s Showstopper Creme Stains!  – Lisa

Spring eyeshadow favorites

At last Spring has arrived and with it comes lighter shades of cosmetics and a lighter disposition. For Top Ten Tuesday this week we’ve all selected eyeshadows that we love or want for spring. Read on for my choices and then click the icons for a bevy of beauties from my fellow Top Ten ladies. — Marcia
1427060953_jester_white_bgMAKEUP GEEK FOILED EYESHADOW in JESTER Springtime and green go together like a horse and carriage. Green is emerging in nature and on my eyes with this gorgeous metallic shade. Jester is a bright mossy green with a gorgeous gold to it. Not to be missed.*
1427060725_0607845019312NARS DUAL INTENSITY EYESHADOW in HIMALYA and DIONE are two favorites of mine. Himalya is a shimmering topaz while Dione is metallic champagne beige. I find these to be pretty sparkly on me but they add a nice dimension to my browbone especially.
1427060585__10115112TORY BURCH “CATCH” EYESHADOW PALETTE is on my wishlist. I just ordered a safer neutral Tory Burch palette from Nordstrom but I have my eye on this one if the quality makes me happy. The light purple, pink and peach scream spring while the unusual blue calls out summer too.
1427060531_74422-ready4BARE MINERALS MODERN POP READY EYESHADOW, THE MODERN ICON is one I’ve been wearing a lot so I guess I was rushing spring. The shades on these are muted pastels so they aren’t the typical pink, peach and lavender you are used to. It’s become a favorite like all my Bare Minerals Ready shadows already are. Review coming up soon. *
1427060448_32140378_000_b__medium_?1427060448STILA IN THE MOMENT PALETTE is going to get me back into Stila eyeshadows. I think I need a warm weather vacation so I can buy this without guilt. It has all the right colors for spring and summer.
1427060326_32884033_008_b__medium_?1427060326ARDENCY INN MODSTER MARUKA HONEY PIGMENT EYESHADOW in HEAVEN is total love for me. I think this is a year round color but boy will it make me feel bright and alert this spring. I’ve bought several others since my review and I’m in love with the gorgeous intensity of these. *
1427060204__9573580JOUER LONG WEAR CREME EYESHADOW in STARLIGHT is one I don’t have yet but it’s being sent as I type. I love a cream eyeshadow and I think this is going to be sensational. I want it as a base shade and will share it soon. I expect it to be a hit.
1427060138_itmfn-shadowSENNA EYESHADOWS from the NUDE COLLECTION gorgeous neutral eyeshadows are on the horizon for review. I’ve loved Senna eyeshadows for at least a dozen years and these new neutrals in Moonlight, Essence, Blend and Nudist are wonderful. These are all mattes that apply like a dream. They are the perfect base coat and work beautifully for a subtle eye. *
Welcome spring!

What are your favorite blushes for spring?

It’s blush time for Top Ten Tuesday. There are so many amazing blushes from low end to extremely high end. It’s easy to covet blush we don’t have but it’s a little disconcerting to open a drawer and find it crammed with blush. Does that stop me? No but I’m getting better. Here are 7 of my favorite blushes that I’ll be wearing this spring and 3 that are on a wishlist. What are your favorites? — Marcia
1425854102_rapture-resizeRITUEL DE FILLE in RAPTURE is the first of my wishlist blush. My blog partner had the opportunity to review this beautiful cream blush ($24) and it is so up my alley. I love this gorgeous pink and I love cream blush. Gloss48 picked a winner!

Rituel de Fille Rapture Blush

Rituel de Fille Rapture Blush

1425853994_0607845055037NARS ADORATION DUAL INTENSITY BLUSH ($45) has been on my wishlist since they were first announced. I love the sparkling baby pink and shimmering hot pink. Of all Nars’ blushes I know this is the one that would get the most use.
1425853888_62d56e5f-ce6e-4e12-9b1f-a87bf8e9c73a_90120.pngPAULA’S CHOICE BLUSH IT ON CONTOUR PALETTE seems to have it all. 4 blush shades, 1 bronzer and 1 highlighter. At $36 the price is right. The blush shades are Delicate Coral (vibrant peach), Peony (light to medium muted pink), Dusty Rose (medium pink with a hint of coral), and Soft Mauve (rich, medium berry-pink). The highlighter is Pearl and has a luminescent quality while the Bronzer is a warm brown. This is probably the next item I’d buy.

1425853814_head-over-heels-compact_2MAKEUP GEEK HEAD OVER HEELS powder blush ($9.99 pan, $12.99 compact). I have a few of the Makeup Geek blushes and they are packed with pigment. Head over Heels is the lightest of them all, it’s a soft bubblegum pink with a little shimmer. Great price and quality.
1425853732_2275337__detail_?1425853732L’OREAL VISIBLE LIFT BLUR BLUSH ($12.99) is available in 3 shades though I found it nearly impossible to locate in stores. Luckily Meijers had this in Soft Peach along with a $2 coupon so I scooped it up. The texture is very silicone like so it may not work for some people but I’m enjoying it. It uses an opti-blur technology and contains anti-aging benefits. I’m happy that it’s not fragranced. Soft Peach is a pinky peach and a lovely spring shade.

1425853644_chateau-cheeks-cream-blush-flirt-opencpt-.08oz-72dpiPUR MINERALS CHATEAU CHEEK CREAM BLUSH in FLIRT ($18) has stolen my heart. This cool pink that leans toward the blue side of the spectrum wears wonderfully, glides on, and dries down to a perfect finish. I love the blush in Coy too but Flirt is spring in a compact.
1425853584_secret-admirer_2MAKEUP GEEK BLUSH IN SECRET ADMIRER is the perfect spring blush. It’s a matte orchid that is packed with pigment. I keep a powder puff nearby since it can be intense but that intensity means it’s going to last all day. If I had to pick one MUG blush Secret Admirer would be the one.
1425853513_2268213__detail_?1425853513TARTE CHEEK STAIN in Blushing Bride ($24) is another pink favorite. The tarte cheek stains are unique in many ways and all the colors are gorgeous but it’s Blushing Bride that I’m currently craving for warmer weather.

1425853435_2264082__detail_?1425853435IT COSMETICS VITALITY BLUSH STAIN in Radiant in Rose ($24) is probably the most long lasting of any blush. It’s true to its name as a blush stain. It’s loaded with anti-aging ingredients and anti-oxidants. I love everything from IT Cosmetics and this blush stain is an example why. (Available at Ulta)
1425853344_tarina-tarantino-parasol-openTARINA TARANTINO DOLLSKIN BLUSH in PARASOL ($25) shouldn’t be a surprise to Beauty Info Zone readers. I chose it as my favorite blush of 2014 and it continues into 2015. I love this pinky peach shade more than any blush in my collection.

Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadows are unique in all ways

Makeup Geek, also known as Marlena, is known for her outstanding tutorials and her quality products. Marlena’s latest line of eyeshadows are her Foiled Eyeshadows ($9.99 for a pan) and they do not disappoint. There are 10 shades available and we were sent 5 to share their beauty with you. We are both gaga over these fantastic eyeshadows and can’t wait to share their beautiful new discoveries.

In the Spotlight and Grandstand swatched

In the Spotlight and Grandstand swatched

Grandstand is a medium rose gold with slight taupe undertones and a foiled finish. In the Spotlight is a soft peachy-pink with coral undertones and a foiled finish. They are fantastic together, particularly with brown eyes.

I love the pans because they fit into palettes – they are the perfect size for MAC palettes – so I can mix and match shades to create a perfect combination. The pigment on these are crazy good and the texture is silky soft. I don’t even need a primer with these and they stay bright and true all day long. And the price? Wow. Eyeshadows don’t get any better than these!

Marcia’s Side:

As you can see I have some of the brighter shades of these Foiled Eyeshadows. If you like a bold eye then these ultra pigmented shadows need to be in your collection.

MUG Jester under bright light

MUG Jester under bright light

Jester seen above is total love for me. This is the one that I’ve worn over and over. It’s rightfully described as “Bright mossy green with slight gold undertones and a foiled finish”. I find the gold to add a magical touch to the green.

Makeup Geek Jester Foiled Eyeshadow

Makeup Geek Jester Foiled Eyeshadow

I can wear this day or night by playing with the intensity of the shadow. The Foiled Eyeshadows work best by patting them on, not smoothing them on. I use either a flocked sponge or a dense taklon brush like the MAC 242.

Makeup Geek Center Stage

Center Stage is easily the prettiest and most unusual blue shadow that I own. It’s a bright royal blue that I’ve only worn at night. If I try to tone it down then I lose the beautiful sheen of the foiled look. It makes a gorgeous smokey eye by keeping it close to the lashline like a thick liner.

Purple lovers need to rejoice about Caitlin Rose. This is a bright amethyst purple that stands out from the crowd. Even if you have a wardrobe of purple eyeshadows you don’t have this amazing shade.

Makeup Geek took the work out of foiling for us. As she tell us: “This cutting-edge formula offers a creamy texture that is a hybrid between a powder shadow and a cream shadow that is on a level of its own.
The intense pigmentation combined with an opaque, metallic finish make these shadows a dream to work with. These can be applied effortlessly in just one swipe with no primer required! Our lineup includes a diverse array of rich colors and a smooth silky formula that we believe help elevate pressed eye shadows to the next level of exceptional quality.”

These unique Makeup Geek eyeshadows should be in your shopping cart soon or at least on your wishlist!
