Makeup Wars – favorite brushes

Each time Makeup Wars comes together to share posts a topic is decided. While we all don’t post on every one, this week’s is definitely going to be a popular one. MAKEUP BRUSHES!!! We are all beauty enthusiasts so favorite brushes is done with ease. For me though it’s narrowing down my huge collection to just the ones I use all the time. I love luv crave brushes and even though I have over 100 the ones I’m sharing today are the ones I use every week if not daily. A few were sent for review but the majority are ones I’ve purchased and would gladly do again.

ARTIS ELITE MIRROR OVAL 10

Artis Oval 10

Artis Oval 10

When I first reviewed Artis Oval 10 I didn’t realize that it would eventually become my all time favorite face brush. I am madly in lust over this brush. At the time I was using it for powder but I soon learned that it was ideal for foundation. It gives me the smoothest visage ever and makes my skin look airbrushed. With over 250,00 soft bristles it marries the best of two worlds with its softness and refined blending application.

At $77 it’s expensive but the cost is small in proportion to my use and adoration. (Available at Saks and the Artis website)

MAC EYESHADOW BRUSHES

MAC eye brushes 239, 272, 219, 217

MAC eye brushes 239, 272, 219, 217

My first cosmetic job was as a freelancer for MAC Cosmetics. I lived and breathed MAC and that’s when my brush collection really grew. I had (past tense) a pro discount and knew that what I used on clients was what I wanted to use on myself. They are still the eyeshadow brushes that get the most use. It might have something to do with owning duplicates of them – ahem. MAC’s eye brushes all start with the number 2 in their numbering system.

MAC 242 is my favorite since it does just about everything – lays down color, blends shadows, the tip can be used with liner, and is great with both soft colors and more intense ones.

MAC 239

MAC 239

MAC 272 sadly has been discontinued – I don’t know why though since the curve makes it great for the browbone area as well as the lid. It works the same as the 239 but it has the great angle to it.

MAC 217 was always my favorite blending brush but unfortunately the newer ones are bigger and not up to the original. I still love it though and use mine constantly. I’m sure I’ll wear them out at some point.

MAC 217

MAC 217

MAC 219 is my favorite pencil brush. Shockingly I only own 1 of these but I’d happily buy another.

The MAC brushes aren’t enough to keep me satisfied, sort of like Lay’s Potato Chips, I can’t stop at one.

BEAUTY JUNKEES MINI KABUKI SET are brushes that you just can’t beat. Fabulous for eyeshadows and even better for concealer. I pretty much use these interchangeably. At $14.97 this is affordable luxury.

Favorite eye brushes: Shu Uemera 10, Make Up For Ever 218, Anastasia A6, Cinema Secrets 12, Smashbox 4

5 other brushes that get a lot of use include the Shu Uemera 10, made of Kolinsky/Sable. It’s an extreme luxury at $95 but it’s worth it if you have the money.

Make Up For Ever 218 Medium Blender Brush ($25) is great with powder and cream shadows. I use it for blending as well as application.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Pro A6 is my newest brush (reviewed here) and it’s quickly became one of my favorites. Of the three brushes I received from them I notice that I’m reaching for A6 the most. I love it as a firm blending brush.

Anastasia Beverly Hills A6

Smashbox 4 was one of my first highend cosmetic brush purchases. I don’t think you can find this anymore which is a shame. It was called a concealer brush but I love it as a cream eyeshadow brush. Why do brands discontinue their best products?

Eyebrow brushes are my newest obsession and my two favorites are from IT Cosmetics and Full Brow. IT Cosmetics Build a Brow Brush 12 is unique because of the bristles. They are of different lengths so they really reach into your brows to deposit color. It works especially well with a cream brow product. Full Brow is perfect for powders. It just seems to apply the powder more easily and evenly.

MAC CHEEK BRUSHES: There are two MAC Cheek brushes that I use all the time. For blush I like the large angled MAC 168. Some blush brushes are so big that I’d end up with blush all over so a smaller size is my jam. The other is MAC 165, I’ll use it for blush and it’s wonderful for highlighting and contour. Sadly it was an LE brush but the Tapered Face Brush 138 would do the same job though it’s bigger.

Even though I could go on forever I’ll stop with 3 of my favorite face brushes.

IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Powder No. 8, Japonesque Kabuki, Wayne Goss 00

IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Powder No. 8, Japonesque Kabuki, Wayne Goss 00

IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Powder brush is the softest, fluffiest brush. I think mine was part of a TSV (which is why you should always pay attention to the TSV!!). I love IT’s brushes and this one is a great example of what cruelty free brushes are all about.

Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Powder brush

Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Powder brush

The Japonesque Kabuki is long discontinued. It’s similar to Nars Yachiyo Kabuki though it was less expensive. It’s not the softest brush but it’s wonderful still for cream blush. It picks up the color well and diffuses it so my cheeks are softly blushing. japonesqueWayne Goss 00 is now only available as a duo – one black, one white. I bought it in a preorder and was able to buy just the one. Go find a friend to split this duo with! This is what I expected of all my Wayne Goss brushes. This is perfection in the way it applies any powders as it just hugs my face and feels like a baby bunny. I’d use it for foundation if I didn’t have the Artis.

While I really haven’t given you many wallet friendly brushes I personally think that brushes are an investment and that they are often worth the extra money. I’m sure if I were first beginning I’d look at ELF, EcoTools, Beauty Junkees, and Real Techniques to shore up my collection. But my shares today are my best and brightest.  What brushes make you stand up and applaud?  —  Marcia

Makeup Wars favorite concealers – which 3 are my choices?

makeup-wars-concealers-all

You could say that I have an obsession with concealers if you wanted. I readily admit to an obsession since these are the concealers I could pull together for a picture and I’m sure I’m missing some. I’ve purchased at least 75% of these and just last week bought another. Since we’re featuring Favorite Concealers this week it’s the perfect chance for me to share 3 of my latest loves. I have told you about a million times already that I love IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Eye and CC+ Eye so I won’t bore you with that. Instead here are three newer concealers that I highly recommend.

Favorite concealers: Bravon, Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer and Corrector, Make Up For Ever Invisible Cover Concealers

Favorite concealers: Bravon, Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer and Corrector, Make Up For Ever Invisible Cover Concealers

BOBBI INTENSIVE SKIN SERUM CONCEALER AND INTENSIVE SKIN SERUM CONCEALER: After a wonderful Bobbi Brown event I couldn’t resist these two products along with their Intensive Skin Serum Foundation. My skin, especially my under eye area, looked flawless and stayed that way throughout the day and evening. ($40 each)

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer and Corrector

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer and Corrector

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer was created with your under eye area in mind. This is a soft and silky concealer that comes in a typical wand. One dip into the tube gives me enough concealer for both eyes. I dab it on in 3 spots and then use my finger to warm it and smoothe it. I’ll usually go over it with a cosmetic sponge after to make sure it’s blended well. My concealer shade is Porcelain and it’s one of 15 shades available.

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer and Corrector

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer and Corrector

Formulated with a skin-boosting blend of Cordyceps Mushroom, Indian Tree Root, and Bamboo Grass, Intensive Skin Serum Concealer helps to visibly reduce dark circles caused by aging and excess pigmentation. It re-energizes tired-looking skin and supports its natural repair process while boosting the skin’s moisture levels for a plumper, smoother, and more refreshed look. The weightless serum texture floats over skin and layers seamlessly over Bobbi Brown’s Intensive Skin Serum Corrector (sold separately).

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Corrector actually gets applied first. Some days I’ll use both but most days I just use one. Either one will do. The Corrector is the one to use for discoloration. When I use both of these I’ll apply the serum corrector first, apply foundation, and then last apply the serum concealer. My makeup artist, with her wonderful touch, applied the corrector and then the concealer but I don’t necessarily have that magic touch.

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer in Porcelain and Corrector in Porcelain Bisque

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer in Porcelain and Corrector in Porcelain Bisque

Just looking at the concealer swatch it appears very yellow (lousy light on a rainy day) but it blends in perfectly. The correctors come in 20 different shades. If I had to pick just one of these I’d be depressed but I’d probably go with the corrector since it’s very brightening.

BRAVON HYDRATING DUAL ACTION CONCEALER

Bravon may not be a brand you’ve heard of often unless you read Gouldylox but I’m loving the brand. I first bought the foundation and came back for a second order. I am thrilled with this concealer. It’s only available in 8 shades but I think they cover the gamut pretty well. The concealer is only $17 which is a bargain these days. I purchased Ivory, the lightest shade.

Bravon Hydrating Dual Action Concealer

Bravon Hydrating Dual Action Concealer

The dual action comes in since this is both a corrector and a concealer all wrapped in one terrific tube. My undereye area has gotten drier as time has progressed so I appreciate the hydration this provides. It’s easy to apply and I just need a little to cover up my insomnia circles. One thing that bothers me is when I can see my concealer bunched up in the tear duct area making my eyes look crepey. That doesn’t happen with this anti-aging formula.

Bravon Hydrating Dual Action Concealer

Bravon Hydrating Dual Action Concealer

This is the concealer I can use anywhere on my face. It covers the redness under my nose perfectly and I’m sure it will cover blemishes or discoloration when needed.

Bravon Hydrating Dual Action Concealer in Ivory

Bravon Hydrating Dual Action Concealer in Ivory

Ivory is not this yellow, the lights in my bathroom are. This is just one of many Bravon products that I’ll be recommending to you over the next few months. Bravon is the name of the owner of the company and I’m proud to be recommending an independent company (aka indie) that is so terrific.

MAKE UP FOR EVER ULTRA HD INVISIBLE COVER CONCEALER is a little confusing but it quickly became a favorite. When you look on the Sephora site for this concealer you’ll find it mixed in with the correctors. So some shades will conceal while others say they’ll correct. That means I bought one of each! Available in 13 shades ($27) be sure you check to see which one you are buying. These are the only concealers that I keep in the box because I wrote myself a note to remind me which is which.

Make Up For Ever Invisible Cover Concealer

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Concealer

These skinny longer tubes have a great rounded tip (it became shy and didn’t want to be photographed) that you can actually use to apply the concealers. This too is a very silky smooth product since I find that’s what I need for my undereye area. It lasts very well and is easy to pat to smooth it out again if I see any creasing.

Instantly hide dark under eye circles with Ultra HD Concealer’s innovative range of concealers. Only a few drops are needed as a little goes a long way this formula. Featuring an Anti-Dark Circle Complex with Radiance Booster, this concealer support collagen to refresh and awaken the undereye area. Along with filling and smoothing fine lines, its lightweight formula is infused with Pure Focus Pigments that reflect light to erase shadows, while the hylauronic spheres prevents moisture loss. Available in 14 shades that cover all skintone needs, the Ultra HD Concealer features shades that are also perfect for color correcting. For an instantly flawless complexion, choose from the peach color correcting shades to neutralize dark circles—then, use a concealer shade to brighten the undereye area. Apply in thin layers for the most natural result—only a small amount is needed.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Concealer R20 Correct, Y21 Conceal

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Concealer R20 Correct, Y21 Conceal

Without the “correct” “conceal” words on Sephora’s site I wouldn’t have known what I was using. Like the Bobbi Brown I wear them alone or together. I’m such a rebel.

My concealer wardrobe has obviously grown and these newer additions have made it a better place to reside. Do you have a favorite? Be sure you read the posts from the other Makeup Wars ladies to see how we’re alike or different. —  Marcia

Color Correctors – splurge or steal?

Color Correctors - splurge or steal?

Color Correctors – splurge or steal?

Lately it seems that all we hear about are makeup trends. We spent months obsessing over contouring, we moved on to strobing, we’re stuck on highlighters and illuminators, and now we’ve got color correctors coming at us like gang busters. Color Correcting isn’t new but it’s having its day right now.

I remember years and years ago that Physician’s Formula had little tubes of color correctors that were very inexpensive. It made the brand more noticeable because no one else had anything like it. I remember finally caving when it was on sale for about $2 – and being disappointed. I wasn’t as experienced with cosmetics and I didn’t understand enough about blending.

Move forward to 2016 and Sephora has been tempting me with Color Correctors as have other brands. Here are some I’ve bought at different price points.

WET n WILD COVERALL CORRECTING PALETTE ($3.99) A steal!

Wet n Wild Coverall Correcting Palette

Wet n Wild Coverall Correcting Palette

I picked this up at Walgreen mainly because I knew that Makeup Wars was writing about this subject plus I wanted to see how an inexpensive color corrector would compare to the more expensive ones. This is the one to purchase if you are curious and don’t want to splurge. But it’s not the best out there unless you want the purple (to counter dullness) and green (to correct red).

Wet n Wild Coverall Correcting Palette

Wet n Wild Coverall Correcting Palette

The yellow is called Cover but it doesn’t cover anything on me; it’s meant to cancel out bruises or undereye circles. The white is their Highlighter but it’s pretty weak. Purple is what they call Normalize while they name the green Neutralize. The texture is very thick so you need to apply it with a light hand and blend it well.

PIXI CORRECTION CONCENTRATE, BRIGHTENING PEACH ($12) Save!

This was one of my first correctors and I fell in love with it. The matte peach is very brightening and is great under my eyes to help with my dark circles. It has great ingredients:

  • Rose Hip Extract has great cell regenerating and skin elasticity boosting properties
  • Vitamin A provides an anti-aging effect
  • Vitamin C brightens and revitalizes
  • Vitamin E nourishes and protects

The price is right and other than the small opening on the pot it’s excellent.

BECCA UNDER EYE BRIGHTENING CORRECTOR ($30) Splurge

If you follow me on Beauty Info Zone you know this is a favorite. This is a light and bright pink with a soft creamy finish. While it’s technically not a concealer, I don’t need one when I use this. I like the bigger opening on the jar and I like the consistency of the corrector. Some days it’s a little too bright for me if my dark circles are rearing their ugliest head.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correctors in Peach & Pink, Sephora Bright Future Color Corrector in Green

Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correctors in Peach & Pink, Sephora Bright Future Color Corrector in Green

SEPHORA COLLECTION BRIGHT FUTURE COLOR CORRECTOR in GREEN ($14) Save

While the Sephora brand Bright Future Color Correctors come in 5 shades, they are always sold out. Right now the green and yellow are available online but once the pink and peach come in, they sell out instantly. That’s because the price is half that of the similar Urban Decay Color Correctors. The main difference that I see between the two brands is the applicator. Sephora Collection’s isn’t quite as nice and less comes out so you work a little harder. It’s definitely green and it applies dark at first but using a sponge I can blend it down easily. I use it by my nostrils and just under where I have the most redness and spot treat other areas. They key is to blend but not RUB away.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correctors in Peach & Pink, Sephora Bright Future Color Corrector in Green

URBAN DECAY NAKED SKIN COLOR CORRECTING FLUID in PEACH & PINK ($28) Splurge

I first bought this in Peach and liked it so much I went back for the Pink. The consistency of these is great for correcting, they’re soft and blend extremely well without a lot of work. They are what’s getting the most use in my correcting routine these days. The Peach looks very orange at first but it blends down enough to cover dark circles without showing as orange. Pink is meant to brighten dark areas. I sort of say “eeny meeny” to decide which to use each day. A sponge is the tool I prefer with these. I first warm them with my finger then use my sponge to softly blend these.

MAKE UP FOR EVER 5 CAMOUFLAGE CREAM PALETTE ($40) Splurge

Make Up For Ever 5 Camouflage Cream Palette

Make Up For Ever 5 Camouflage Cream Palette

I bought this palette when I was freelancing, as you can see it’s unused and I didn’t swatch it. It is really more of a concealing palette but the colors are mostly too dark for me. This is #1 the lightest one (for light to medium skin tones with redness concerns) and there are 5 total. I probably should have bought #5 (pro palette featuring color correcting shades for most skin tones and highlighter/concealer) since it’s more for correcting than concealing.

FACE STOCKHOLM CORRECTOR QUAD ($32) Splurge

Face Stockholm Corrector Quad

Face Stockholm Corrector Quad in Ljus

The Face Stockholm Corrector Quad came in a Wantable subscription and was one of the highlights of my years long subscription. Ljus is the lightest of the 3 Corrector Quads available. Mine has been used too much to photograph but I really did like having this all in one quad. While I didn’t get much use out of the yellow I did from the other 3 shades.

As you can see, I’m fascinated with these type of products and totally obsessed with them lately. While this craze has cost me a lot lately, I’m enjoying using all of these (well not the MUFE which I haven’t broken into yet). It’s hard to recommend just one but to save money you might want to look at the Sephora Collection colors or a quad like Face Stockholm’s.

What do you like for color corrector? I’m always up for more.  — Marcia

Favorite eyeshadow palettes for fall

While this is supposed to be Top 10 Tuesday for me it’s Top 7 Tuesday. I decided to just choose eyeshadow palettes I own and rely on rather than make a wishlist. I’m excited about my choices and recommend all of these highly. Some were received for review, others were bought, and all are loved and recommended.

LANCOME AUDA(CITY) in PARIS ($68)

LANCOME AUDA[CITY] IN PARIS

LANCOME AUDA[CITY] IN PARIS

This is the first Lancome palette I’ve bought in years. There are 16 shades in 4 finishes. They are set up almost like four individual palettes. The colors are Filigree (light gold shimmer), Choquette (peach matte), Parfait (light pink matte), Kitten Heel (gold copper shimmer) , Joie (golden brown shimmer), Voyage (muted purple matte), Sante (brown matte), Éclair (purple metallic), Exhibition (orchid shimmer), Zip Me Up (deep purple shimmer), Volcano (silvery gray shimmer),  Clock Strikes 12 (gray metallic), Audacious (smokey brown shimmer), Couture (dark brown matte), It List (black matte), Nuit (deep charcoal metallic).  This palette was designed by Lisa Eldridge who was inspired by the streets of Paris. It’s the kind of palette that takes you from day to night, from running errands or going to work to a soiree. After seeing so much hype about the palette I instantly bought it during a Lancome GWP and I’m glad that I did.

TOM FORD NUDE DIP ($80)

I reviewed this much loved palette (here) so you can see fresh pictures of it. This contains a light gold, a light rose gold, a medium taupe and a chocolate brown. It’s my one and only TF palette and if they were all like this without glitter but lots of sheen, I’d own them all.

BUTTER LONDON NATURAL CHARM ($39)*

butter LONDON Natural Charm Shadow Clutch

butter LONDON now has eyeshadows called Shadow Clutches and I’m loving it. There are two ShadowClutch palettes – Natural Charm and Pretty Proper.  The shades in Natural Charm are Linen (Matte Vanilla), Quartz (Warm Beige Sheen), Camo (Dark Khaki Sheen), Camel (Matte Nude), Citrine (Coral Sheen), Leather (Matte Chocolate Brown. These are primer infused and the pigments are great. A full review is on the way.

MAKEUP REVOLUTION LONDON in MERMAIDS FOREVER ($15)*

Makeup Revolution in Mermaids Forever

Makeup Revolution in Mermaids Forever

This beautiful Ulta exclusive has 32 shades that will satisfy the needs of everyone. I know it’s early for Christmas presents but this would be a delight for any makeup lover to find in a pile of gifts. It’s affordable enough that you can buy it for gifts and one for yourself. While the theme is Mermaids with its beautiful blues, teals, and greens you’ll also find a bevy of neutrals. Makeup Revolution is a UK brand that only came to the US at Ulta stores in the summer. No swatches yet of this but they’ll be coming.

BUXOM CUSTOMIZABLE PALETTES ($40)

a Buxom Customizable Palette made by me

a Buxom Customizable Palette made by me

buxom customizable palette

buxom customizable palette

After using a buxom Customizable Palette and finding the pigmentation to be utterly amazing, I just had to put together one in the neutral family. Be sure you buy this in one bundle since separately the eyeshadows ($12 each) and empty palette would be $112. The colors in my palette are Champagne Buzz (shimmering pearl), Haute Couture (metallic java), Jetsetter (matte greige), Satin Seduction (Bisque Luster), Mix & Mingle (matte vanilla), Style Icon (Mettalic Taupe). I think you’ll have better luck finding these at Sephora since they are selling like hotcakes online.

SLEEK MAKEUP i-DIVINE STORM PALETTE ($11.99)*

Sleek Makeup Storm Palette

Sleek MakeUP Storm Palette

Sleek is another brand from the UK and is one of the most coveted brands from there. There are a lot of Sleek MakeUP iDivine palettes and I was lucky to get Storm which was one I’ve been eager to try. The shades are Sand Storm (golden brown, Snow Storm (lighter gold), Calm Before the Storm (matte beige, Thunder Storm (brassy gold), Perfect Storm (rose gold), Firestorm (bronze), Dust Storm (deeper bronze), Gathering Storm (dark pewter), Storm Cloud (teal pewter), Electric Storm (shimmery navy), Eye of the Storm (matte light brown), Blackout (matte black). What I love about this palette is that there’s a mix of matte and satin shades. Full review will follow.

MAKE UP FOR EVER 9 ARTIST SHADOW PALETTE VOLUME 1 (NUDES YOU NEED) ($42)

Make Up For Ever 9 Shadow Artist Palette volume 1

Make Up For Ever 9 Shadow Artist Palette volume 1

Make Up For Ever’s 9 Shadow Artist Palette is the oldest one in this group. Did I need another neutral palette? Of course not and at first I was a little sorry I bought it. But once I started using it I realized there were some shades that I really liked. These shades are available individually but putting 9 in a palette makes it a better buy. The shades are (going down the rows) I-528 Pearl, S-556 Taupe Gray, S-102 Onyx, I-514 Pink Ivory, D-562 Taupe Platinum, I-544 Pink Granite, ME-512 Golden Beige, ME-644 Iced Brown, D-652 Celestial Earth so it runs the gamut of finishes. I get the most use out of Pearl, Pink Ivory, Pink Granite, Golden Beige and Iced Brown. The two shades marked D (diamond) are too glittery for me) and I don’t line with black so Onyx is pristine. But 6 out of this palette makes this a buy I no longer regret.

Top 10 beauty products to survive the heat

Beat the heat with waterproof and water resistant products

Beat the heat with waterproof and water resistant products

Welcome to the newest edition of Top Ten Tuesday. Considering we are just a few days from the official first day of summer it’s time to find out what the beauty bloggers use to beat the heat. We all might approach this a little differently from each other but our blogs are trying to get you through summer in the most beauteous way.

My 10 are ones I rely on to get me through heat, humidity and hot flashes. The colors are pretty much interchangeable, it’s the type of product that counts today.

1.  IT COSMETICS CC+ CREAM WITH SPF (Your Skin But Better CC+) is something I talk about endlessly. Of all my CC Creams this is number uno. It’s not waterproof but when I start streaming it doesn’t end up streaky on my face. I’m on my third tube of this and I’m sure I’ll end up with a fourth.

It Cosmetics CC Cream SPF 50 and Skindinavia The Makeup Primer Spray

It Cosmetics CC Cream SPF 50 and Skindinavia The Makeup Primer Spray

2.  SKINDINAVIA MAKEUP PRIMER SPRAY * can be used as a primer before applying foundation or the way I usually use it which is to set my makeup (including eyes) after I’m done. My blog partner Lisa just reviewed this and she uses it as a preprimer, I find it also sets my makeup helping it last longer. Wonderful product.

MUFE Aqua Eyes liner, IT Cosmetics Waterproof Gel Eyeliner, Rimmel Scandaleyes crayon in Bulletproof Beige

MUFE Aqua Eyes liner, IT Cosmetics Waterproof Gel Eyeliner, Rimmel Scandaleyes crayon in Bulletproof Beige

3.  IT COSMETICS WATERPROOF GEL EYELINER PENCILS *are really waterproof. If you are looking for a great line for summer IT Cosmetics is your BFF. There are 10 shades of these Waterproof Gel Eyeliner Pencils and you can’t go wrong with them. Many eyeliners last on my top lash line but only a few last on my bottom lash line in the summer and IT is one of them.

4.  MAKE UP FOR EVER AQUA EYES PENCILS *are the other eyeliners that you want for summer or anytime actually. Make Up For Ever is a fabulous line if you are in the heat. They make many eye and lip products that are perfect for summer which is why many of their products use the word AQUA in their name. This shade is 52L which was an LE shade but others like 7L and 12L will give you this turquoise pop.

5.  RIMMEL SCANDALEYES EYESHADOW CRAYON is not touted to be waterproof but it lasts and lasts through anything I put it through. I have this in half a dozen shades and Bulletproof Beige (which looks peachy on me) gets the most use. They are creamier than a lot of brands of eye crayons and they are only around $7.

IT Cosmetics Build A Brow and Liner Love plus the eyebrow brush

IT Cosmetics Build A Brow and Liner Love plus the eyebrow brush

6.  IT COSMETICS BUILD-A-BROW is truly waterproof. This baby lasts and lasts. My new craze is filling in my eyebrows and I choose between Build A Brow or Senna. But when push comes to shove, I use IT Cosmetics. This shade is Dark Brown but I recently ordered Natural Taupe too for when I don’t need quite as dramatic eyebrows.

–  IT COSMETICS EYEBROW BRUSH is probably the best brush I’ve ever tried. I have a few other great brushes but the IT brush is perfect for a cream eyebrow product. The brush is unique since it has grooves in it that pick up and apply the cream by itself. You almost aren’t needed. By buying this combination from QVC you pay so much less than if you buy them separately. Even though I have the brush, I bought the combo again with the new shade. That’s how great this brush is. (I know this is OT since it’s not waterproof but I get a little carried away!)

It Cosmetics Eyebrow brush

7.  IT COSMETICS LINER LOVE is a waterproof gel eyeliner. I prefer a gel eyeliner to a pencil though I’ll use all kinds. The first one I bought was Espresso and when I realized that QVC had a duo with an eyeliner brush I bought it in Silk Taupe seen here.

Rimmel Provocateur, IT Cosmetics, tarte lipsurgence

Rimmel Provocalips, IT Cosmetics, tarte lipsurgence

8. RIMMEL PROVOCALIPS 16 HOUR KISSPROOF LIP COLOR* in Play with Fire. This is NOT my shade. I don’t do red but I do appreciate this lip color. It comes in 10 shades with one side being the long wear lipstick and the other end the clear gloss. Give the liquid lipstick time to set before applying the gloss or it will be a gloppy mess. I wore this only once and boy did it last. I want to pick it up in Dare to Pink or Pucker Up for my more neutral lip look.

9.  IT COSMETICS YOUR LIPS BUT BETTER WATERPROOF LIP LINER STAIN * – there’s that word again “waterproof”! Like I said before IT Cosmetics is your summer BFF when it comes to waterproof. These lipliners are currently available in 7 shades. My favorite is Buff Nude since it blends in with everything. These are great all over your lips with a touch of gloss too.

10.  TARTE LIPSURGENCE * is a product you’ve seen me mention dozens of times. tarte makes several formulas and lots of shades, it doesn’t matter which you pick since all are terrific. While they aren’t called waterproof they last well on me and they don’t seem to melt when they are in my purse.

What do you use to stay beautiful and live through the summer heat? Curious minds want to know. — Marcia

Top Ten Eyebrow Favorites

Top Ten Tuesday is back and this time we’re emphasizing eyebrows as well we should. Eyebrows are the frame for the look on your eyes and I’ve realized that this is a category I’ve previously ignored. When we started Beauty Info Zone I never touched my brows except with a tweezer. I’ve got years worth of pictures that I have no eyebrow makeup on and years with pretty crappy makeup on them. I’ve recently become obsessed with learning how to do my eyebrows right. One of these days I’ll get it too!

I had received a preview of this during testing through a program from PC that sends people (not just bloggers) new products to test and review. Mine looks different but it works the same. It has two shades to use alone or together. I love the cream finish and think it fills in my brows better than any product I own.
1422210616_natural-brow-duo-group-withswatch-06feb14-webPIXI BEAUTY NATURAL BROW DUO ($16) – I just did a whole article on this duo because it’s great for me for everyday. It comes in three shades (natural brown, brunette and soft black). Natural Brown is an easy to wear color with cool undertones. I love the matching gel side and plan to buy it in the Brunette too.
1422210878__6054294SMASHBOX BROW TECH TO GO ($28) – My first ever brow product was the original Smashbox Brow Tech. A friend taught me about QVC and raved about it. I had it in several shades and used it whenever I felt I should do something. They’ve changed it plus added this Brow Tech To Go. It’s one product that I totally used up and I never use anything up. It wasn’t until I was almost done that I realized there was a gel on the opposite end. I felt like a fool about that but I still have it and use it. This is easier to use than the original but it can become hard so I usually had to warm it up first.
1422211220_browpoweruniversalIT COSMETICS BROW POWER UNIVERSAL PENCIL – I have nothing but love for this pencil. The color is a neutral to cool brown and there’s a spoolie at the opposite end to make sure your eyebrows are nicely formed. The most wonderful thing about this is that for every Brow Power Universal Pencil sold ($24) one is donated to Look Good, Feel Better to help women with cancer regain their self esteem. What a wonderful charity and I love IT Cosmetics for doing this.
1422211278_el_universalbrowOFRA COSMETICS UNIVERSAL EYEBROW PENCIL ($13) is one I received in two of my subscriptions. I gave away the first but luckily I have the second. This is an ultra smooth soft pencil that is very easy to apply. It’s a neutral brown that was created to work for all skin and hair tones but I think it’s probably best for brunettes.
1422210524_818MILANI COSMETICS BROW TINT PEN ($6.49) is one I recently bought. I’ve only been able to find it in Natural Taupe so far. I like this a lot because the tip is fine and it’s great to draw in hairs to make your brows look natural. I just ordered it in Dark Brown (the only other shade available) because I’m too impatient to drive around town trying to find it. Taupe is a warm brown that is almost a universal shade.
1422211714_60329PIXI BEAUTY LASH AND BROW BRUSH ($8) is a spoolie that helps with brushing your brows before you apply anything on them. Brushing them up and making them even is an excellent and easy way to prepare your brows for makeup. It’s also great to use after your brows are done to make sure they look perfect. In addition you can use this on your eyelashes to brush out those clumps.
1422211140_59270MAKE UP FOR EVER ANGLED EYEBROW BRUSH #270 ($21) is the best brush I’ve ever used on eyebrows. In spite of not doing my brows much prior to the last year, I still have several brow brushes. When I received this brush I realized that it blew my others out of the water. This is a very firm brush that can be used with powders, gels, creams and pencils. I highly recommend this brush.
1422210938__45048SMASHBOX ANGLE BROW BRUSH is the other brow brush that I reach for. It’s hard to find but it used to be part of the Brow Tech set so I have two of them. I found them on cutandblow.com for a reduced price. I’m very glad I have these now that I’m back to brows.
1422211594__6622425TWEEZERMAN SLANTED TWEEZERS – I must have a minimum of 6 of these in my house. I feel lost without my tweezers and Tweezerman are the ones I’ve trusted and used the longest. The original slanted full size tweezer is the best.
1422211440_265x265xclear_brow_gel_.jpg.pagespeed.ic.rl7gjw77v4ANASTASIA COLORLESS BROW GEL ($22) is something you should have in your arsenal of tools. I like MAC Cosmetics clear brow gel too. I just have a mini Anastasia one from a kit right now and it comes in handy to tame the bushiness.
I’ve read two Brow Tutorials lately that are excellent for shaping your eyebrows and want to share them with you. The first is from INTO THE PALETTE and the second from PHYRRA. Both are great guides that I recommend. With these tutorials and the right tools you are on the road to perfection.

Makeup Wars Wish Lists for 2014

Beautysets - Makeup Wars Wishlist
I know you recently saw a wishlist last week on Top Ten Tuesday but is ten really enough? Makeup Wars has decided to add on some more wishlist items to get your juices going. Here are 8 that have been on my mind lately. — Marcia
1415558411__9465766STELLA MCCARTNEY HOLOGRAM ENVELOPE CLUTCH – I actually wanted this last (as in the collage) since it’s way out of my league. At $770 I’d be afraid to use it but I’d enjoy every minute of it. I’ve needed a cocktail purse for a long time and this would certainly turn heads.
1415558346__9814141NATASHA STARDUST CLUTCH – Now this is more in my price range ($148) and would probably look great with any dressy item I own. I saw this in the Nordstrom catalog and it caught my eye.
1415558250_61738HARRY JOSH PRO HAIRDRYER AND ACCESSORY SET – I absolutely don’t need this, I have a new and wonderful Conair hairdryer that is fabulous. But ever since I first read about this Harry Josh Pro Hairdryer I’ve wanted it and right now it’s in this set with all these extras for $250 at Dermstore.
1415558078_s1637792-main-hero-300MAKE UP FOR EVER STUDIO CASE – Last week I put the MUFE STATION ($300) on my wishlist. It was more of a dream list. This Studio Case ($52.50) is much more practical and I’d love to own it. It contains 12 of Make Up For Ever’s latest shadows.Natural (M-530, S-516, I-544), Smoky (M-122, ME-108, M-100), Bold (D-236, D-926, I-218), Chic (I-524, D-826, ME-828) – 0.01 oz Artist Liner in Matte Black (M-10)
1415557888_s1640390-main-hero-300TOO FACED EVERYTHING NICE SET – Too Faced has so many holiday choices that it’s hard to narrow down. Once I started looking them over though I realized that even though I wouldn’t really get use out of the bronzers, I’d love everything else in this set.

  • 20 x 1.2 oz Eye shadows in Turtle Dove, Dream On, After Hours, Fawned of You, Knockout, Paper Roses, Kindness is Free, Mauvelous, Be You, Secret Lovers, Heaven, Shiny Happy, Honey Pot, Don’t Settle, Girly, Totally Fetch, Live it Up, Too Glam, Head Over Heels, Chocolate Moon
    – 2 x 0.28 oz Bronzers in Chocolate Soleil and Inner Light
    – 2 x 0.28 oz Blushes in Papa Don’t Peach and Sweet Pink
    – 3 mini Gold glitter Cruelty-Free Teddy Bear makeup brushes
    – 0.17 oz Better Than Sex Mascara
    – Pink glitter zip bag

1415557592_holiday2014_burberry002BURBERRY WINTER GLOW GOLD 2 EYESHADOW PALETTE – I saw this on Temptalia’s site and fell in love with the shades. These are colors I go for all the time.
1415557523_ctpaletteCHARLOTTE TILBURY FALLEN ANGEL PALETTE – This is another that got my heart going. I love the star design and I’m dying to try Charlotte Tilbury. I actually thought of doing this post today as 100% wishes from her line. You need to see the beauty of this at British Beauty Blogger.
1415557464_s1669761-main-hero-300SMASHBOX DOUBLE EXPOSURE – This reasonably priced palette has 20 shades but the reason it’s called “double exposure” is that when you use these wet you get double the shadows. These are meant to be used both wet and dry and the effects are supposed to be dramatically different. It contains eyeshadows in Silver, Mauve, Peony, Blanc, Quartz, Flushed, Veiled, Midnight, Temper, Haze, Noir, Copper, Fig, Espresso – 0.13 oz Full Exposure mascara – Double-ended brush

So there you have 6 more eyeshadow sets and 2 evening bags to add to my wishlist and maybe yours. What would you want from this list? Have you made your own wishlist like my fellow beauty bloggers? — Marcia
