REALHER- A natural alternative to standard liquid lipsticks

Liquid lip products are immensely popular now as I’m sure you all know.  I was very pleased to get this certified cruelty free and paraben free REALHER matte liquid lipstick to try along with an Expert Advice lip liner. Both products have natural ingredients and are infused with shea butter, jojoba seed oil and hyaluronic acid. The company offers eyeshadows, lipsticks, glosses and brushes too. I love the promise which is “RealHer was founded on the idea that, with each application, it can help to inspire the wearer: to be herself, to love herself, to be powerful, to rule the world. It doesn’t ask us to be perfect, to be a mother, to be a CEO, to be the perfect beautiful doll, but rather invites us to continue being ourselves, and that which defines us as an individual—and it’s liberating.” What’s even nicer is the birth of the daughter of the company’s founder influenced him to develop this brand with her in mind.   And- get this- the company donates 20% of all proceeds to charity.

Marcia sent me I Am Loved lip liner and I Deserve The Best matte liquid lipstick that she’d received in a Boxycharm sub box. The website describes I Am Loved as a plum color and I think that description is right on the money. It glides onto your lips smoothly without any skipping. The color is very pigmented and can easily be worn as an all over lip color without an accompanying gloss or lipstick. It goes perfectly with I Deserve The Best lipstick. The website describes the color as a deep mauve. In the container the color looks more like a medium toned brownish pink. It looked that way when I first applied it to my lips. In fact, the liner was darker than the lip color upon initial application  REALHER recommends you apply the lipstick to bare lips with the wand. Allow up to 5 minutes for it to dry to its matte finish and avoid oily foods.

I have pretty dry lips so after application, I was able to see the product settle into some lip lines. Even after lining my lips with the pencil, I found it hard to ‘color within my lip shape’. I had better success when I used a lip brush and smoothed the color that way, waited the requisite 5 minutes and the product did become matte but it also became sticky. I felt it particularly if I rubbed my lips together which I tend to do. If you don’t have this habit, you won’t notice the stickiness at all.

The color seemed to darken on me to a deep mauve (just as the website stated) and matched the liner perfectly. I did avoid oily foods for lunch and there was no transfer onto my smoothie cup.

REALHER keeps their promises.  –  Phyllis

Runway Rogue is embracing my lips

Runway Rogue

Runway Rogue

I need to tell you all about RUNWAY ROGUE, a lip product line by Patricia Hartman, but before I do I have to share that this is a F.I.N.D.!! I’m loving the 4 lip products I have and want to share all about them with you but first I need to tell you more about Runway Rogue.

Patricia Hartman

Patricia Hartman

Runway Rogue is a cruelty-free line that is also talc free, paraben free, sulfate free, and gluten free. It’s safe for everyone. What makes this unique on the market is Patricia Hartman, a former model who has always had a passion for cosmetics, in particular lip products. She put her creativity to work and crafted a lipstick line that is unusual as well as luscious. When you look under “SHOP” on the website it shows how you can shop by attitude, such a great quirky touch.

Runway Rogue Designer's Muse

Runway Rogue Designer’s Muse

RUNWAY ROGUE lipsticks ($21) have so much goodness. While they have a variety of trendy matte lipstick they stole my heart with the line of satin lipstick. Not everyone loves matte or can even wear matte lipstick no matter if it is what’s in. Old dogs can learn new tricks but when we have a new line with satin lipsticks, this old dog loves it even more.

  • Jojoba Oil to hydrate and soften the skin without clogging your pores!
  • Safflower Oil to enrich your lips with hydrating vitamin E!
  • Aloe Vera to sooth and hydrate your pout!
  • Vitamin E to combat free radicals with potent antioxidants!
  • Green Tea Extract to rejuvenate skin with anti-aging properties and polyphenols for sebum control!
  • White Tea Extract to hydrate your pout with anti-aging compounds that promote longer moisture retention for skin!
  • Chamomile Extract to soothe your lips!
Runway Rouge Chic Lipliner and Designer's Muse satin lipstick

Runway Rouge Chic Lipliner and Designer’s Muse satin lipstick

You can feel the hydration as soon as you apply this lipstick. There is zero fragrance and plenty of moisturizing. The formulas are loaded with hydrating oils and extracts which will pamper your lips and keep them supple and soft. I was so thrilled the first time I applied this because of the feel on my lips.

There are currently 4 Satin lipsticks on the site. Designer’s Muse is described as a soft rosy pink with beige undertones. If I wear it without the lipliner (coming up) then that’s a perfect description. With the Chic Precision Lip Pencil it becomes more of a coral pink. Fashionista is a burnt dusty rose, Photo-Op is a true soft coral, and Stilettos is described as a bright red with coral undertones. Don’t they all sound spring and summer ready?

RUNWAY ROGUE PRECISION LIP PENCILS are available in 5 matte shades ($18) that I’ve found to be so creamy that I didn’t believe it when they said it was matte. I have Chic, a peachy pink bright liner that doesn’t disappear. It was created to work well with Designer’s Muse Lipstick and Lookbook Lips gloss. These are all perfect together and I also wear each alone or in combination for some fabulous looking and feeling lips.

Runway Rouge Look Book Lips gloss

Runway Rouge Look Book Lips gloss

Look Book Lips is described as peachy pink perfection and that is a spot on description. It’s not too dark and it’s not too light, it’s right on. It enhances lipstick or can be worn on its own for sheer but beautiful color.

What you need to know about Runway Rogue gloss is that it’s not the least bit sticky. Not even a tiny bit. It feels amazing on my lips while bringing out a pretty shine. When first applied I notice a vanilla fragrance but then it’s gone in an instant.

Runway Rogue Bride in Show gloss

Runway Rogue Bride in Show gloss

Bride in Show is the other gloss I have and it’s perfect for any lip product you own. I’ve tried it with half a dozen lipsticks and have grown to love it more each time. It’s a pearly pink with just a touch of iridescence. It has a touch of shimmer that is for enhancement but you’ll never notice that you have this shimmer on. This has become my new favorite gloss since it’s so unglosslike!

I love showcasing independent brands and Runway Rogue reminds me why I have this love. The products have all the right ingredients, feel magnificent on my lips, look even better, and are good for me and the environment. I can’t ask for more other than that you check out Runway Rogue to find this goodness for yourself.  —  Marcia

LISA HAS CRUELTY-FREE LIPSTICK/LIP LINER SETS

Ok, true confession:  when I first saw the colors of these lip sets, two words ran through my mind:  OH NO.  I never thought in a million years that these shades would work for me…plus they are matte.  That alone is usually the kiss of death for my thin, skinny lips.  My MO is to brighten my lips up as much as possible and give them all the thickness I can get without needles full of Restalyne, typically with tons of shine and shimmer and pinky/rosy/peachy shades.  But I was very happy to give the Matte Liquid Lipstick & Lip Liner Sets a whirl, especially after I read this quote from DJ Victory:

“It’s my hope that each morning when women apply their makeup that they will remember that they are beautiful with or without it. I try to be always grateful for what I have. Sometimes that is difficult when we live in a society that makes us feel less than if we don’t meet certain beauty standards. I hope these beautiful colored lipsticks and fluttery eyelashes remind women to always see the beauty within themselves and others as well as to show compassion, teach gratitude, and remain humble.”

How can you not adore her??

Ok, so back to the Matte Liquid Lipstick and Lip Liner Sets ($24.99).  The Lip Liner is a gel liner that glides on and creates a perfect canvas for the Matte Liquid Lipstick.  Matte lipsticks are notorious for showing every crack and wrinkle, so a matching creamy lip liner that also acts as a moisturizing balm is a total bonus.  Lucky for us, the liners come free with these!  The shades are very interesting – the two I tested are most definitely throwback shades to the 1990’s, which is a lot of fun.  If you wear them full on, they dry matte and stay on for a long time with strong opaque color.  Or, as I discovered, you can blot blot blot right after application, and they are the shy sister of the full on bold color – pretty, feminine, still unique but oh so wearable at any age.  Yay!!!!  These are sets that my 17-year-old steals when I’m not looking, but I still want them enough to refuse to give them up.  They are pretty terrific.

Macy and Misa Tristan Liquid Lipstick (macyandmia.com)

Tristan Liquid Lipstick is a cool coco brown that takes me right back to 1996. Interestingly, I see this shade on the high school girls all of the time now…it’s definitely making a comeback.  I never thought I could wear it, and when I first put it on I was like, oh hell no.

Luckily I grabbed a tissue and did the classic lip blot three times, which was the exact magic formula to make this shade work beautifully for me.

Macy and Mia Samantha Liquid Lipstick (macyandmia.com)

Macy and Mia Samantha Liquid Lipstick (macyandmia.com)

The Samantha Liquid Lipstick is a smokey lavender with grey undertones.  Again, I thought oh no way can I pull this off.  But guess what?  With the three magical blots I not only pull it off, I love it!!  It turns into a soft grey purple berry shade that is different and feminine.  So pretty and it reminds me of spring lilacs.

I am just shocked that I love the shades Tristan and Samantha, and I adore the moisturizing lip liner and liquid lipstick combo.  In fact, I would go so far as to say I am rather obsessed.  I really want to try Jennifer, which is a deep pink; Jessica, which is a pale peach; and Heather, which is a mauve/neutral nude.  I honestly can’t wait to try them all.

A the BIZ, we love animals as much as we love cosmetics.  So it’s no surprise that we adore the super fun Macy & Mia line and are thrilled that part of the profits go toward Pay It Forward For Pets, a 100% non-profit organization dedicated to helping animals in need.  We really hope you check out this whimsical yet practical line for yourself!!

BUBBLES is a light peachy pink nude. At first I thought it was pink but then the peach came through more. If I want to darken this or any of these products the GEN NUDE Under Over Lip Liners are perfect. I have this in On Point and it’s a winner.

HONEYBUN is called a Toasted Nude. To me this is the perfect rendition of a nude lipstick. It’s got a soft brown tone but it’s softened with a touch of mauve.

TUTU is the one I wear the most. The shade is described as a delicate mauve. I’m not a dark lipstick person and Tutu gives me color but doesn’t scream at anyone. All of these lipsticks contain Mango, cocoa and shea butters to make them as moisturizing as they are.

There are two formulas that at first appear to be gloss: GEN NUDE BUTTERCREAM LIPGLOSS and MATTE LIQUID LIPCOLOR.

bare Minerals GEN NUDE BUTTERCREAM LIPGLOSS and MATTE LIQUID LIPCOLOR.

bare Minerals GEN NUDE BUTTERCREAM LIPGLOSS and MATTE LIQUID LIPCOLOR

bareMinerals GenNude Buttercream Lipgloss are aptly named. These are less like the lip gloss you have in your collection and more like the lip butters you have. In essence they are a combination of both worlds. Available in 15 colors the shades I have are Fancy, Forbidden, and Snarky (sounds like a fun music trio). These are considered lip plumping though I have never felt a sting or tingle from them.

bareMinerals Buttercream Lipgloss in Fancy, Forbidden and Snarky

bareMinerals Buttercream Lipgloss in Fancy, Forbidden and Snarky

Fancy is the thinnest of the three I have. It’s a true light pink with golden pearl. The wand on this is different than the ones you’ll find on the matte lip colors. Forbidden is a light pink nude (I love this!!) while Snarky is rose pink with gold pearl.

bareMinerals Fancy Buttercream Lipgloss

bareMinerals Fancy Buttercream Lipgloss

These all have a light vanilla scent to them and have great active ingredients (Shea, avocado, murumuru and cupuacu butters) plus Volulip, a natural peptide that increases lip volume and supports lip hydration by locking in moisture, with no tingling sensation.

bareMinerals Gen Nude Buttercream Lipglosses in Fancy, Forbidden, and Snarky

bareMinerals Gen Nude Buttercream Lipglosses in Fancy, Forbidden, and Snarky

Last but not least are the trendy GEN NUDE MATTE LIQUID LIPCOLORS. Is there anything more popular than this texture? Everyone loves a great matte liquid lipstick and these from bareMinerals are marvelous matte without being drying. The wand/paddle applies them perfectly. It’s flat and gets my whole lip at the same time. Wait about 10 minutes before eating or drinking to really let these set.

bareMinerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolor in Shag

bareMinerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolor in Shag

Frenemy is a dark cool pink, Swag is called a blushing mauve, and Weekend is a honeyed peach pink. If these 3 shades aren’t your favorite there are 17 more. These look different on my lips once they’ve dried down than when they are still moist.

bareMinerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolor in Swag, Weekend,, and Frenemy

bareMinerals wanted these to be comfortable so they infused primer into the formula. The primer helps with color transfer as well as helping to prevent feathering. They also contain plant based waxes to keep your lips feel moisturized.

Right now at ULTA bareMinerals has a GWP of a FREE 5-pc Gorgeous All The Way Gift with any $40 bareMinerals purchase (offer valid 9/25/16-10/22/16 or while supplies last). These are also available at Sephora and with their annual discount you might want to put your favorites on your wishlist. Since the Radiant Lipsticks are my favorite, I’m checking out more shades of these.

First Kiss Flush with Pixi Beauty

First Kiss Flush with Pixi Cosmetics

First Kiss Flush with Pixi Beauty

I remember my first kiss…it was on the back porch on a hot summer’s evening. My boyfriend’s name was Darrin. I was 13 years old and I have no doubt my face was definitely flushed afterward! Pixi Beauty sent me some great items to test that bring me right back to that hot summer night and my ‘first kiss flush’.

Pixi Cosmetics Glowtion Day Dew

Pixi Beauty Glowtion Day Dew

Glowtion Day Dew ($22)  The first step to getting that wonderful flush is a great, glowy complexion and Glowtion Day Dew does the job. This is a lightweight moisturizing lotion that has illuminating shimmer. I love to put this on right before applying my foundation – it truly gives a ‘lit from within’ appearance and is not sparkly or too young-looking. Ingredients include lavender oil to calm skin and mica to brighten. I love this and know I will be using the entire tube!

Lip Contour Liner in Invisible Smudge Stopper

Lip Contour Liner in Invisible Smudge Stopper

Lip Contour Liner in Invisible Smudge Stopper (Translucent $12) The next must-have for a first kiss flush are beautiful lips and the Lip Contour Liner in Invisible actually helps keep brighter lipsticks from straying. This lipliner is clear and it makes sure lipstick doesn’t feather into fine lines or smudge onto teeth. I use this way more than I thought I would and in fact carry it in my purse to use right before touching up. It twists up and doesn’t need a sharpener either which is a plus.

MatteLustre Lipstick in Raspberry Blush

MatteLustre Lipstick in Raspberry Blush

MatteLustre Lipstick in Raspberry Blush ($12) is the perfect lippie for that just kissed look  The lipstick is full-coverage and lasts a while, especially when also used with the Lip Contour Liner in Invisible. It has lots of great ingredients like peptides, hyaluronic acid, and vitamins C and E to ensure beautifully kissable lips. In the tube, the Raspberry Blush shade looks daunting, but it goes on a gorgeous pinky red that is totally fun and wearable. Yet another lippie that has found a home in my purse!

If you had a great first kiss and want to relive that memory – or if you just want to look like you had a great one – I recommend picking up this combo from Pixi Beauty. You are going to love the beautiful flushed look.  – Lisa

Think Pink with Smashbox lips

Think pink

Think pink

Not enough attention is given to pink lips but I want to change that. Actually I want to give attention to all things pink therefore you’ll start seeing my THINK PINK posts with some favorite pink cosmetic items.

I’m starting with Smashbox because they’ve created my new favorite lip product and with luck they sent it to me. I really wouldn’t have known about it if Smashbox hadn’t sent today’s goodies.

Smashbox Be Legendary Long Wear Lip Lacquer in Flushed

Smashbox Be Legendary Long Wear Lip Lacquer in Flushed

SMASHBOX BE LEGENDARY LONG WEAR LIP LACQUER in FLUSHED has become my sidekick or “lip kick” lately. This liquid lipstick is with me every day. There’s something about this that has grabbed my heart. Basically I’m a lipstick girl. I like gloss and used to wear them constantly but as I’ve gotten older I’m more excited about lipstick. The Lip Lacquer has the best of both worlds. It feels like a lipstick on and yet it has a shine to it like a gloss. It’s moisturizing and not the least bit sticky.

source smashbox.com Be Legendary Lip Lacquer shades

source smashbox.com Be Legendary Lip Lacquer shades

The Be Legendary Lip Lacquers ($24) are available in 20 shades so even though I’m a pink person I’m guessing you’ll find one that’s just right for your red, coral, nude or wine passion. FLUSHED is described as a ‘soft rose gold’ on Sephora but I find it to be a cool but not cold pink that looks right with just about everything. These are long lasting and they say you’ll get 8 hours wear out of them. I don’t get 8 hours wear out of anything but I can get almost that far if I don’t eat, drink or kiss!

Smashbox Lip Lacquer in Flushed

Smashbox Lip Lacquer in Flushed

As a lipstick lover I have always loved Smashbox lipsticks. It was one of the first brands I binged on. Their lipsticks are smooth, moisturizing, don’t settle in the lines on my lips and best of all they are fragrance-free. My experience with BE LEGENDARY LIPSTICK in POUT ($20) has been wonderful. It’s a bubblegum pink which may not work for everyone but it’s the pink of my dreams. I have some natural tint to my lips and I don’t feel washed out when wearing Pout. Smashbox lipsticks contain Shea Butter for moisture and Vitamins C and E for protection.

To change things up and make these lipsticks and lip lacquers more versatile there’s Smashbox ALWAYS SHARP LIP LINER ($20) that comes in 16 shades. I have both Crimson (for my grown up lips) and Shocking Pink that helps deepen my bubble gum lips to something more ladylike. Crimson is a blue red while Shocking Pink is a vibrant hot pink.

Sharp Lip Liners in Crimson and Shocking Pink

I love that these twist up and I’ll never have to worry about breaking them with a sharpener. These are water resistant too. I like to line first, fill in and then blot that down. Next I’ll apply the lipstick or lip lacquer. This is how I get any longevity. When the lip color starts wearing away, I still have a stain left.

Three great lip products, four great colors and one pair of lips that love to wear pink = success. Have you treated yourself to any Smashbox lip products lately? — Marcia

Paul & Joe helps make lips two times better with these pencils

It seems no one ever writes about lipliners yet we probably all use them, even if it’s not daily. My makeup artist friends don’t go without lipliner in their daily lives and they always apply it to their clients. If they only applied it to customers then I’d say it’s a sales tactic, but when I see them apply it to themselves all the time I know it’s because they know the necessity of it being part of a perfect lip.

Paul & Joe Lipliner Duo 1

Paul & Joe Lipliner Duo 1

PAUL & JOE has created a line of Lipliner Duos in 5 combinations and they gave me the opportunity to test one.  I have Lipliner Duo 1, Cinnamon Raisin. The colors are described as cinnamon beige and warm brown. In addition to this there’s Persian Peach (nectarine and perky, peachy pink), Grapevine (sepia brown and burgundy), Frappe (pink and vivid orange) and Japanese Maple (two sexy reds). There are good pictures of all at beautyhabit where they are sold ($25).

This exceptionally smooth lipliner applies without skipping and lasts well. I tend to use the lighter shade more since I wear lighter lipsticks. I use this one of two ways – line my lips before filling in with lipstick OR cover my entire lip with the liner, apply my lipstick, and then go over my lipline again for further definition. You can also mix the two shades by layering them to create a custom lip color with clear gloss over it.

Paul & Joe Cinnamon Raisin lipliner duo swatches

Paul & Joe also makes another type of lipliner duo which I don’t have but sound interesting. Those have a matte and a pearl side.

Paul & Joe Lip Concealer Duo in Fair

Paul & Joe Lip Concealer Duo in Fair

Paul & Joe also created another duo which is their LIP CONCEALER DUO ($20) Right now it’s available only in #1 Fair.

P&J Lip Concealer Duo

P&J Lip Concealer Duo

These apply just like a lipliner except that you use the shades to conceal the color of your own lips. With this you can conceal any imperfections in your lips plus you can even contour your lips with them. Contouring is hot hot hot these days so why not try to contour your lips too? I find this helpful when my lips change the color of a lip product and make it darker than I like due to my skin chemistry. Line my lips with this Paul & Joe Concealer Duo and I’ve neutralized my lips so that I can apply without change.

Paul & Joe Lip Concealer Duo swatches

Paul & Joe Lip Concealer Duo swatches

One side (top) has more of a peachy tone while the other side (bottom) is more pink/neutral. Pick the one that works best with your lips. I have friends that put a real concealer on their lips to blank out the color but that moves so it doesn’t work for me. The texture of this lip pencil works better to conceal and it lasts so that you can reapply lip color without a problem.
