A Frankie Rose Cosmetics face of the day

A Frankie Rose Cosmetics face of the day

I first tried Frankie Rose Cosmetics back in November of 2013 and I fell in love with their super pigmented eyeshadows, creamy lipstick, and shimmery lip gloss. This time around I have different shades of the lippie products, as well as an eyeliner and their famous foundation.

Frankie Rose Cosmetics Matte Perfection Foundation in Vintage

Frankie Rose Cosmetics Matte Perfection Foundation in Vintage

Frankie Rose Lipstick in Soft CranberryNormally, I don’t test a product until after I have taken photos.  It has been so cloudy and dreary in Michigan the past few months that good photography light has been hard to come by. It was about a week before I could take pics of the Matte Perfection Foundation ($32), but I was so curious about this foundation that I tried it before taking pics. Then I tried it again…and again and again! I couldn’t stop wearing it.  I realized very quickly why so many people swear by it and actually consider themselves ‘addicted’.

Frankie Rose Matte Perfection Foundation in VintageMatte Perfection Foundation is a long-wearing liquid foundation with buildable coverage.  It is matte enough to keep me from getting shiny but it doesn’t have that super flat look that is a drawback for many matte foundations. I love the coverage and it doesn’t settle into my pores. This really is one of the best liquid foundations I have ever tried. It’s available in nine different shades, a great variety for different skin tones. Vintage is the perfect shade for my ‘somewhere between light and medium’ skin tone.

Frankie Rose Cosmetics Powder Foundation in Buff

Frankie Rose Cosmetics Powder Foundation in Buff

The Powder Foundation ($30) does everything a good pressed powder should do, but with more coverage. It has a creamy texture so it doesn’t look dry on the skin. When I buff this over the Matte Perfection Foundation I achieve skin nirvana – I still look natural but all those imperfections are gone, gone, gone.  Throughout the day I take out my compact to powder my nose…then stop, because it doesn’t need it! I am completely addicted. With 12 different shades you are sure to find your match. Buff Powder Foundation over Vintage Matte Perfection Foundation is my exact skin match.

Frankie Rose Cosmetics Infinity Eye Pencil

Frankie Rose Cosmetics Infinity Eye Pencil

Infinity Eye Pencil ($16) goes on smoothly and has some play time for smudging out before it dries.  It lasts for a few hours on the waterline. I like it best on the upper lid…I have some issues with smudging on the lower lid, especially if I am having problems with my contacts drying out. It comes in four shades. I tried the matte Black, which is a very dark black. I’d like to try Rebel, a dark blue shimmer, which looks beautiful.

Frankie Rose Lipstick in Soft CranberryThe Lipstick ($16) in Soft Cranberry is a shiny mauve with shimmer. It’s a beautiful shade that I know I will wear all year. I love the lipstick tube; it is chic with just enough heft to feel substantial without being too heavy. The lipstick is nicely moisturizing with jojoba and canolin oils. There are 14 stunning shades available, so if you are looking for a new lipstick you will want to check out Frankie Rose Cosmetics.

Frankie Rose Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Pressed Flower

Frankie Rose Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Pressed Flower

The Lip Gloss ($16) is excellent, a staple everyone should have. There are 12 shades, including Pearl, Sugar, Pressed Flower, Gala Pink, Cotton Shimmer, Raspberry Dazzle, Valentine, Sunset, Sangria, Crushes Berries, Winter Plum, and Tangerine.

Frankie Rose Lip Gloss in Pressed Flower swatchedPressed Flower is a neutral pinky/brown with lots of shine. Since the lip gloss is a combination of a lipstick and a gloss it has beautiful pigmentation and lasting power. I am very impressed.

Frankie Rose Cosmetics face of the day

Frankie Rose Cosmetics face of the day

For my face of the day, I used a silicone based primer first, then applied the Matte Perfection Foundation in Vintage with my hands. I put two pumps into my palms, gently rubbed together, then patted on the foundation. I followed this by buffing in the Powder Foundation in Buff.  No concealer….didn’t need it! Lips are Soft Cranberry Lipstick with Pressed Flower Lip Gloss.  roducts from other lines that I used include Makeup Geek Powder Blush in Hanky Panky, Paula’s Choice Brow Defining Cream Duo, MAC Painterly Paint Pot, and tarte lights, camera, LASHES mascara.

Wow, the Grammys sure were polarizing this year, in terms of both the fashion and the politics! It was a great show and to celebrate ULTA and COVERGIRL are sponsoring a HUGE giveaway for BIZ readers. Plus, I have a COVERGIRL look inspired by the pop princess herself, Rihanna.

Yes, Rihanna was pretty amazing performing Four Five Seconds with Paul McCartney and Kanye, but her true WOW moment was on the red carpet in her Giambattista Valli couture silk and tulle gown. I know, I know…lots of people thought this was a huge miss and that she looked like a giant toilet paper cozy. But I loved this! It’s big, it’s a statement, and it’s fun! I think the gown looks amazing on Rihanna and the pink shade is beautiful. A gown like this needs soft hair and makeup, which is exactly what Rihanna chose.

My Grammy inspired look with COVERGIRL products

My Grammy inspired look with COVERGIRL products

That gorgeous pink gown and Rihanna’s understated makeup inspired my look which I created using products sent to the BIZ by ULTA and COVERGIRL. Products I used include Blooming Blushes Eyeshadow Quad, Bombshell Pow-Der BROW + Liner in 805, Full Lash Bloom Mascara, and Outlast Lip Color in 720.

COVERGIRL Blooming Blushes Eyeshadow Quad

COVERGIRL Blooming Blushes Eyeshadow Quad

The Blooming Blushes Eyeshadow Quad has a beautiful deep pink which I used on the mobile lid; a shimmery copper pink I used in the crease; a medium matte brown used in the crease and the outer portion of the mobile lid; and a light shimmery pink which I used on the brow. The end result? A glam yet still understated eye look that really opens the eye.

I then lined my upper and lower lash line with the Bombshell Pow-Der BROW + Liner and filled in my eyebrows, too. This is a winner of an eyeliner thanks to the easy to use felt applicator and the powder doesn’t smudge.

Then I applied three coats of the Full Lash Bloom Mascara, which has a stellar brush that really grabs every lash. I finished with a peachy-pink lip courtesy of the Outlast Lip Liner in 720. This is a longwearing lip color that comes with a fabulous topcoat that adds moisture and shine.

The brights are “in” for 2015 with Gerard Cosmetics

Gerard Cosmetics All Dolled Up, Tequila Sunrise, and Cocoa Bean

Gerard Cosmetics All Dolled Up, Tequila Sunrise, and Cocoa Bean

If you want bright and highly pigmented lip products then head over to GERARD COSMETICS. The two lipsticks and one gloss they sent for review have some of the best pigmentation I’ve seen in years. I’m used to a nude lip so when I applied these the first time I was amazed at the vibrancy I saw. It took a while to get used to but then I couldn’t stop looking in the mirror.

Gerard Cosmetic lipstick

Gerard Cosmetic lipstick

The shiny gold tubes look like they’d weigh a ton but instead they are lightweight.

Gerard Lipstick in All Dolled Up

Gerard Lipstick in All Dolled Up

Since I’m always attracted to cool toned lipstick I started with All Dolled Up. This is the definition of “cool toned”. It’s a bright pink that’s just this side of fuchsia on me. The pigment is off the charts.

Gerard Lipstick in All Dolled Up

Gerard Lipstick in All Dolled Up

If you want a bright pink, go no farther than All Dolled Up.

But if you want a lipstick that’s warmer but not warm try Tequila Sunrise instead. On me it’s a pinky coral. In my swatches it looks more coral than it actually is.

Gerard Cosmetics Tequila Sunrise

Gerard Cosmetics Tequila Sunrise

Tequila Sunrise turns out to be my favorite of the two. I love that it has that touch of pink to soften the shade making it more flattering for my skintone.

Gerard Cosmetics Tequila Sunrise

Gerard Cosmetics Tequila Sunrise

Tequila Sunrise is a matte lipstick ($19). My lips are dry as the Sahara so I make sure that I’m well exfoliated and balmed up before applying. I like using either a gloss or Waxelene Lip Balm over it too.

Gerard Cosmetics Tequila Sunrise and All Dolled Up

Gerard Cosmetics Tequila Sunrise and All Dolled Up

The color doesn’t fade quickly but to refresh it either a light shade of gloss or a clear gloss does the job. If your lips aren’t as lined as mine then you can probably get an even longer wear from these by not topping them.

Gerard Cosmetics Color Your Smile Lighted Lip Gloss in Cocoa Bean

Gerard Cosmetics Color Your Smile Lighted Lip Gloss in Cocoa Bean

Gerard also makes the delightful Color Your Smile Lighted Lip Glosses ($24) that my blog partner Lisa has written about several times. These glosses are made by Gerard but are also part of the Whitening Lightening line. The one I was sent is called Cocoa Bean and it has the most fun packaging ever.

Gerard Cosmetics Color Your Smile Lighted Lip Gloss in Cocoa Bean

Gerard Cosmetics Color Your Smile Lighted Lip Gloss in Cocoa Bean

As you can see it lights up when you open the tube. That helps a lot when applying color especially one as color saturated as Cocoa Bean is. It also has a mirror on the side to help you apply. It’s a brown with a touch of red to it. On some people it would be considered a dark nude lip. On me it’s intense and not an easy color to wear. But the formula is amazing and I’d love to wear some of the shades like Nude and Butter Cream.

Get In the Buff with Beauty Addicts

Beauty Addicts lippies are getting nude

Beauty Addicts lippies are getting nude

For summer beauty ADDICTS has combined products from their line to create IN THE BUFF, a collection of skin toned items that are great for a no-makeup makeup look. The tones are based on peach, brown and tan that look more like what we look like before we put on makeup so they enhance our beauty without making us look all dolled up. We were happy to receive these lipsticks, glosses and their tinted moisturizer to share with you.

Beauty Addicts lip addiction

Lisa’s Side:  Hello, my name is Lisa and I have a lippie addiction. I have so many lipsticks and lip glosses that I refuse to reveal the exact number – a number so high it is beyond embarrassing. Beauty Addicts only feeds my addiction with their Beautifull Lips Lipstick ($18) and Lip Addiction Lip Gloss ($17).

Left to right:

Left to right:  In the Buff, Toast, Shy

Left to right:

Left to right:  Playmate,  Addict, Naked

The Beautifull Lips Lipstick is a cream lipstick that keeps lips quite moist. Ultra-moisturizing ingredients include Vitamin E, shea butter, and jojoba oil. Plus, the formula has natural peptides that keeps lips healthy and plump. The lipstick has nice pigmentation and a rich satin finish.

The Lip Addiction Lip Gloss ($17) is a moisturizing, shiny gloss that isn’t the least bit sticky. In fact, the slip is terrific and I love how it makes my lips feel. Plus, these have my favorite doe-foot applicator and the same natural peptides as the lipstick. The formula for both the lipstick and the lip gloss is great, and the nude shades are outstanding.

It’s not easy for me to pull off nude, in every sense of the word. When it comes to my lippie addiction, I am constantly searching for the right nude lip that doesn’t wash me out or make me look like I stopped breathing about ten minutes ago. I have to say that the In the Buff  collection has awesome shades that look great alone and even better when combined. Here are my favorite combinations.

In the Buff Lipstick

In the Buff Lipstick

Naked Lip Gloss

Naked Lip Gloss

Top to bottom: In the Buff Lipstick, Naked Lip Gloss, then Naked over In the Buff

Top to bottom: In the Buff Lipstick, Naked Lip Gloss, then Naked over In the Buff

In the Buff Lipstick is a peachy/brown cream nude. It actually applies a little darker than I expected, which is good because too light and my already thin lips disappear. Naked Lip Gloss is a creamy, milky peach. I can’t get away with wearing it alone – but I adore it layered over In the Buff.  This combination creates a fabulous peach that is glossy and understated – the perfect partner for a smoky eye.

Toast Lipstick

Toast Lipstick

Addict Lip Gloss

Addict Lip Gloss

Top to bottom: Toast, Addict, then Addict over Toast

Top to bottom: Toast, Addict, then Addict over Toast

Toast Lipstick is a warm rosy brown that really shines. Addict Lip Gloss is peach with golden shimmers…it brings me right back to a few years ago when the Pantone color of the year was tangerine.  Layer Addict over Toast and it creates a fantastic neutral tangerine that is super flattering.

If you already has a lippie addiction like I do, you have been warned – Beauty Addicts is only going to feed that addiction. And if you aren’t already addicted, you will be soon!

Marcia’s side:  I’m not as addicted to lipstick as Lisa is, as a matter of fact I often forget to put on lip color and only realize it when I’m out and about. But a nude lipstick is my favorite and that’s what I normally choose.

I have the Beautifull Lipstick in Shy and with the Lip Addiction Lip Gloss in Playmate. Sort of contradictory terms but that doesn’t make these any less beautiful.

Beauty Addicts Shy lipstick and Playmate lipgloss

Beauty Addicts: lipstick alone, gloss alone, combo

Beauty Addicts: lipstick alone, gloss alone, combo

This is a great combination for me whether I want to be “in the buff” or I just want to be me. Easy to wear, moisturizing and they make me feel comfortable.

What I’m really hear to discuss though is the rest of In the Buff: beauty ADDICTS Mineral SheerTINT. This is a true Tinted Moisturizer that isn’t making any pretense about being a BB Cream or a CC Cream (although it has the same qualities).

Beauty Addicts Mineral SheerTINT

Beauty Addicts Mineral SheerTINT

Mineral SheerTINT is color, moisturizer and sunscreen (SPF20) all rolled into one. This fragrance free product has surprisingly good coverage, much better than any TM that I’ve come across. It contains a blend of Ginseng Root Extract, Vitamins A, C, and E and powerful antioxidants. It’s available in 7 shades from Porcelain to Dark. I have it in Light which is actually too yellow for my skin so all you porcelain princesses should be looking at the lightest shade. I love to wear it, but I have to mix a little Face Atelier Zero into it to lighten it for my complexion.

Beauty Addicts SheerTINT in Light

Beauty Addicts SheerTINT in Light

Tinted Moisturizer in Medium

Tinted Moisturizer in Medium

As you can see from the two swatches, it runs dark and a little on the yellow side so keep that in mind when ordering. Mixing in Zero makes this a great shade for me.

Light with some Face Atelier Zero mixed in

Light with some Face Atelier Zero mixed in

The interesting thing that I’ve found when wearing Mineral SheerTINT is that it lasts a long time on my face. It’s surprising to me just how natural and long lasting this is. I’ve been using Skindinavia’s Primer Spray and Kiehl’s Micro Blur so I’m sure that helps but I’ve used those with other BB/CC creams without this success.

Beauty Info Zone is giving double thumbs up to beautyADDICTS for their summertime items. Whether you are in the mood for gloss, lipstick, tinted moisturizer or ALL you’ll be in the right place with these products.

Makeup Wars loves peach and coral lip colors

Welcome to a new Makeup Wars celebrating peach and coral lip shades. We know that spring is the best time to bring out our prettiest lip colors. I’m not a big coral lip lover but some corals are light enough for me. What I do love though are peach shades and peachy pink shades. My list today contains some of those favorites plus 2 wishlist items.
1. MAKE COSMETICS Flesh lipgloss and Deep Flesh lipstick are the first two shades I pulled when I was deciding on this list. Deep Flesh lipstick is on the dark side for me but with Flesh lipgloss on top it’s the epitome of springness.*
2. MAKE UP FOR EVER Rouge Artist Natural Lipstick in N37 is described as an iridescent icy coral. I love the sheerness of this shade and that it has a touch of pink to the coral. It glistens!
3. TARTE LIPSURGENCE LIP TINTS are favorites in all of the shades. I love tarte lip crayons and especially Tipsy and Fearless. Tipsy (3rd swatch) is a beautiful coral that’s not too dark while Fearless (4th swatch) is a peachy pink coral.*
4. BEAUTE’ COSMETICS LUMINOUS VOLUME GLOSS IN CHIMERA has long been one of my favorite glosses. I bought most of the Beaute’ glosses when they first became available and they are ones I reach for often. Chimera is an iridescent salmon pink.
5. ARDENCY INN NATURAL LIP PENCIL IN BOWERY is described as a light nude with pink undertones but it’s actually a peach both on my hand and lips. These pencils from Ardency Inn are similar to the nudes of Hourglass but a little smoother and less expensive.
6. BEAUTE COSMETICS LUMINOUS VOLUME GLOSS IN ELITIST is another of my favorites from Beaute. Elitist is described as a sophisticated tawny shade. I wear it when I’ve chosen warm shades and want a beautiful peach shade.
7. NARS TASMANIA LIPGLOSS is a wishlist item. Of all the new Nars shades I’ve seen Tasmania’s pink cantaloupe shade is the one I’m most drawn to and will pick up once it’s at Sephora.
8. BITE BEAUTY HIGH PIGMENT PENCIL IN BOUQUET is another wishlist item. Since it’s a matte shade (and not the one shown in my beauty set unfortunately) I want to test it first to make sure I like the look. I know I like the color!
Do you have a favorite peach or coral lipstick, one that even thin lip ladies might like? — Marcia
*some items are PR samples

Let’s see what the other Makeup Wars ladies love:

Gleam by Melanie Mills Lip Radiance – a holiday picker upper

Back in the 60’s one of the most popular toothpastes around was called Gleem. It was a P&G brand with advertising about how white your teeth could be and how it prevented decay. It didn’t have the cool Bucky Beaver like Ipana toothpaste did though so when we were kids, we wanted Ipana. When I hear the word “gleem” I think of shine and whiteness. Now how does this tie into a review of lipgloss?  Well Melanie Mills has created a brand called Gleam and I received some lipglosses to review. As soon as I saw the brand my mind thought of a beautiful smile which both Gleem/Gleam products help with.

Melanie Mills is an Emmy award winning makeup artist who has worked wonders on Dancing  with the Stars using Gleam Body Radiance. (Review here). Then in 2012 she expanded her line with Gleam Lip Radiance. Her inspiration was that everyone needs a little fun in their life and that you can choose how bright and fun you want your look to be.

Gleam Lip Radiance

Gleam by Melanie Mills Lip Radiance

There are 7 shades of Lip Radiance : Naked, Pop My Cork, Uncontrollable, Unforgettable, Unstoppable, Up Against the Wall, and With My Heels On. Just as the names get a little more provocative, so do the colors which range from a nude to a jewel-tone purple to glamorous reds.

Gleam by Melanie Mills Lip Radiance

Gleam by Melanie Mills Lip Radiance

When Melanie Mills describes her Lip Radiance she tells us that the longer we wear these, the more good we are doing for our lips. They contain jojoba oil, vitamin E and organic botanicals which help moisturize and soften our lips. They aren’t sticky and the dark colors are very long lasting.

POP MY CORK is the one that’s the easiest for me to wear. It’s a great shade for women who don’t like dark lipsticks. It’s a pinky peach that has the look of a gloss but a thicker consistency that’s more like a lipstick. Unless I’m wearing very cool eyes and cheeks then this is the type of lip color I love to reach for. And Pop My Cork is one I love to reach for.

Gleam Lip Radiance in Pop My Cork

Gleam Lip Radiance in Pop My Cork

Gleam Lip Radiance in Pop My Cork

Gleam Lip Radiance in Pop My Cork

UNSTOPPABLE is described as a coral red but on me it’s red red (with a teeny bit of coral). It’s a showstopping color that lasts for a long time. I don’t have a lot of dark lip colors but this one is a keeper. I find the shade to be very flattering and I like how it feels on my lips.

UNCONTROLLABLE is described as a raspberry tint and mauve finish. This one is a little bold for me as I’m not used to wearing something with this much purple on my lips. My solution is to put it on, blot it with tissue and then put a clear gloss over it. It acts as a lipstain that way and I’ve now got a more mellow shade. I’ve seen this type of lip color on others with a darker complexion than mine and love it on them.

Now that you’ve seen Gleam and Gleem, which would you choose? I’m going for Melanie Mills Gleam Lip Radiance personally. No fragrance, long lasting, no feathering, no fading plus they are beautiful to boot. — Marcia

As you know I’ve reviewed a lot of tarte cosmetics over the years but nothing has ever come close to the holiday Gorgeous Getaways set that I’m showing you today.
