What comes to your mind when you hear the name TIGI?

TIGI is mostly known for their hair care. If you’ve been around for any length of time the first thing that probably comes to your mind is BedHead since that’s what made TIGI famous. It’s doubtful that cosmetics come to mind first since the line just doesn’t get the attention that it used to. Well the Beauty Info Zone team is here to change that for you and show you some of the beautiful cosmetics that TIGI creates and let you know why you need to change your mind and think TIGI Cosmetics.

If you are lucky enough to live near a CVS Beauty Store you’ll find TIGI available for you there on their Trend Wall. For those of us not lucky to be near one we can order online at CVS.com as well as Tigi’s Cosmetic site.

#TIGICOSMETICS

Whatever you like when you shop cosmetics can be found from TIGI – concealer, eyeshadows, foundation, lipstick and lipglosses, bronzer. Even basics like foundation primer, eye makeup remover, micellar water are available.

MARCIA loves eye makeup

At one point in my life you could look under my sink and see it loaded with TIGI BedHead products. I had so many and either used that or Vidal Sassoon. I wouldn’t budge from those. Times have changed and while I would use those products again I’ve moved on. I was excited to learn that TIGI Cosmetics was back and even though times have changed, I’m not going to stop using these.

TIGI has 4 variations of High Density Eyeshadow Quads ($24) and all are beautiful. I was very happy to receive one in Love Affair since they are the colors I crave.

TIGI High Density Eyeshadow Quad in Love Affair

Just look at those colors! Those shades are what I want to wear day in and day out. But I’d only wear them if the quality of the quad was great. And it is! I’m stoked about the intensity of the shades, how smoothly they apply, and the way they seamlessly blend.

TIGI High Density Eyeshadow Quad in Love Affair

samples

The colors are wonderful and I’ve been wearing this quad at least once a week for the last several months. I know you are looking at it and thinking “I have that already” but you really don’t because what you don’t have is a quad that works together so perfectly that you don’t need much else in your life. What you don’t have are colors that blend so well that there are no lines of demarcation. What you don’t have is a quad that has minimal shadow fallout because the colors are so silky. What you don’t have are silky soft shades that last the entire day.

TIGI High Density Eyeshadow Quad in Love Affair

Shade 1 is a soft creamy beige. It’s a great base shade and works perfectly on my browbone especially. Shade 4 is the one you don’t expect in a neutral palette but it adds a pop of color that takes it beyond boring basics. I have often mixed shades 1 and 4 together to get a softer pink or I’ll use 4 in the crease above shade 3. This mauve-pink is a great shade.

TIGI High Density Eyeshadow Quad in Love Affair

Shades 2 and 3 are the workhorses of the quad. 2 is a beautiful taupe that I just love on my lid. Shade 3 is a darker brown but it’s not too dark. Shades 2 and 3 blend together like a dream. They were made for each other.

TIGI High Density Eyeshadow Quad in Love Affair

I also have a TIGI Precision Black Eyeliner Pen ($17) that is terrific. I know that a black liner is a black liner is a black liner. But the tip on this TIGI liquid liner is excellent. I love a thin line, especially when I’m wearing black, and that’s what I get with this liner. I can even do a flip for a cat eye which is pretty amazing since I’m not good at that normally.

TIGI Precision Black Eyeliner Pen and Love Affair eyeshadow quad

TIGI Precision Black Eyeliner Pen

If only this eyeliner pen came in brown I’d marry it. In the meantime I’m enjoying both of these eye products and want to explore more from TIGI Cosmetics. I hope more CVS stores start carrying the line.

LISA loves lipstick and gloss

I am always looking for a beautiful new lippie and TIGI Cosmetics has lots of them! I love the packaging…the lipsticks come in these gorgeous geometric silver tubes that shiny enough to work as a mirror. The lip gloss is no slouch in the packaging department either with a cool see-through cap and one of the best applicators I’ve tried.

Tigi Diamond Lipstick and Luxe Lipgloss

The TIGI Diamond Lipstick ($19) comes in eight shades. I love the texture of this lipstick – it’s super smooth and feels fantastic on the lips, lovely and buttery. Ingredients feature Shea butter, vitamin E and rose hip seed oil so it’s a very moisturizing lipstick but it still has a great wear time.

The shape of the lipstick is angled – diamond-shaped, just like the name, which helps for a more precise application. I actually wish all lipsticks were this shape. I was very pleasantly surprised at what a difference it made – I always end up flattening out the traditional bullet shaped lipstick anyway and this flat diamond shape makes precise application a piece of cake.

Tigi Diamond Lipstick in Loyalty

Tigi Diamond Lipstick in Astonish

Tigi Diamond Lipstick swatches top to bottom: Loyalty and Astonish

Loyalty is a medium matte brick-red that is truly lovely. I often have a tough time with reds turning pink on me, but this one stays true and is wonderfully wearable. I love it by itself and with the TIGI Luxe Lipgloss in Foxy over it, but I am getting ahead of myself! Astonish is a cherry red shade that has a bit of shimmer in it. I love to wear this one straight from the tube because it’s a pretty glamorous shade; or sometimes I blot it and it makes for a delightful stain that is more subtle and pretty. I want more of these lipsticks for sure – the packaging is fantastic and I am a huge fan of the texture and wear.

Tigi Luxe Lipgloss in Foxy

I am just as impressed with the Luxe Lipgloss ($17.00) as I am with the Diamond Lipstick. Luxe Lipgloss comes in eight shades and is a very hydrating and super shiny lipgloss. It has a fabulous slip – not sticky at all, and it lasts a decent amount of time for a lip gloss. This is a lip plumping gloss although it doesn’t have the ‘lip tingle’ that you get from other lip plumpers.

Luxe Lipgloss gets extremely high marks from me for the packaging. The tube is a very sturdy plastic with a super cool see-through cap. I adore the hourglass shaped applicator – it somehow hugs the lips and makes for a fabulous application.  Genius!  The Luxe Lipglosses have a vanilla scent and taste – almost like a cookie or baked good, although it’s very mild and pleasant.

Tigi Luxe Lipgloss in Foxy

Tigi Luxe Lipgloss in Foxy

Foxy is a shimmery, shiny peach. I love it. For my lips, it’s best over a lip liner or lipstick – I adore it over my Loyalty Diamond Lipstick. The contrast of the red lipstick and the peach lip gloss makes for an amazing combination. If you have pigmented lips, Foxy will be fine on its own.

So there you have it. From now on, when you think about TIGI, don’t let your mind stop at great hair care – remember the awesome cosmetics and check out these fantastic eye and lip products. We promise you won’t be sorry!!

Spring lips with DHC Moisture Care Liquid Lipcolor EX

DHCHere at the BIZ we have been getting springy with it thanks to DHC and their lovely lip glosses called DHC Moisture Care Liquid Lipcolor EX ($18).  We have some longtime DHC favorites, such as our constant re-buy and holy grail Silky Cotton Squares so we were very intrigued with the new lip glosses that promise beautiful lips just perfect for spring.

DHC Moisture Care Liquid Lip Color

sent for consideration

DHC says that their Liquid Lipcolor does “double duty” as skincare infused lip shine that is ultra hydrating. It gives lips sheer color with just the right amount of pigment and shine within a long-wearing formula. Ingredients include hyaluronic acid for mega hydration, along with peptides and marine collagen to plump lips and soften fine lines. The end effect: soft lips with lots of shine and a perfectly polished look.DHC Moisture Care Liquid Lip Color 31

DHC Moisture Care Liquid Lipcolor EX comes in five shades:  Lotus Pink PK101, Tea Rose RS103, Plum Currant RS104, Soft Citrus RD106, Orange Blossom OR108.

LISA HAS Tea Rose RS103, Plum Currant RS104, Soft Citrus RD106.

As advertised, the Moisture Care Liquid Lipcolor EX is sheer but beautiful. It gives a light color and tons of shine, which is a nice change of pace from the opaque matte colors I have been wearing for the past few months.

DHC RS103

DHC Tea Rose RS103

Tea Rose RS103 is the lightest of my three shades, giving a slight rosy tint that is great for daytime. It’s one of those shades that you throw on before running around doing errands and it’s also a great option for the workday. If you like a low maintenance, soft makeup look you are going to love this one.

DHC RS104

DHC RS104 Plum Currant

Plum Currant RS104 has a bigger color payoff than the Tea Rose with a soft plummy shine. It’s still subtle and feminine and has tons of shine which makes my thin lips look bigger. I love this one all day and all night – the slip is great and it keeps my lips soft and hydrated.

DHC RD106

DHC RD106 Soft Citrus

Soft Citrus RD106 has a burnt orange tint with a shimmery, shiny finish. This isn’t a color I usually wear. I tend to go for cooler shades, like pinks and plums. So Soft Citrus is a nice addition to my collection and is a great choice when I wear warmer colors. This is the deepest shade of the three I have, although it’s still relatively sheer and definitely super shiny.

Top to bottom: Plum Currant, Soft Citrus, Tea Rose

Top to bottom: Plum Currant, Soft Citrus, Tea Rose

Overall I really like these lip glosses. If I had one complaint, it would be the solid color tubes – I never know which shade I am grabbing if I have a few in my purse! But it’s a minor complaint that is outweighed by the wonderful shine and hydration of these soft springy shades.

MARCIA HAS Lotus Pink PK101 and Orange Blossom OR108.

Before I begin describing these two shades you need to know that these feel like silk on my lips. They are incredibly moisturizing and not one tiny drop sticky. The feel of these keeps me from snacking without thinking because I love how my lips feel when wearing these.

DHC Moisture Care Liquid Lipcolor EX PK101

DHC Moisture Care Liquid Lipcolor EX PK101

Pink Lotus PK101 is the lightest of the 5 available shades. It’s the sweetest soft pink with a tiny amount of shimmer. You can’t feel the shimmer and you can barely see the shimmer so why is it there? To give your (my) lips texture and make them looking luscious. There is color but it’s a very light color, I love that kind of look!

DHC Moisture Care Liquid Lipcolor EX PK101 and OR108

DHC Moisture Care Liquid Lipcolor EX PK101 and OR108

Orange Blossom OR 108 is a beautiful peach with pink undertones. I could wear this daily and never get tired of it. The texture is thicker than my pink one so it feels like it’s imparting more color on my lips. It too has that eensy bit of shimmer that makes my lips look a little plumper (a miracle).

DHC Moisture Care Liquid Lipcolor EX OR108

DHC Moisture Care Liquid Lipcolor EX OR108

DHC Moisture Care Liquid Lipcolor EX PK101 and OR108

DHC Moisture Care Liquid Lipcolor EX PK101 and OR108

The wand on these looks familiar but it feels different than other wands. It’s very soft and bendable so you need to look in the mirror when applying so that it applies properly. I don’t need to double dip with these hydrating lip glosses since one wand is enough to beautifully fill in my lips.

DHC Moisture Care Liquid Lipcolor EX OR108

DHC Moisture Care Liquid Lipcolor EX OR108

I rarely wear a gloss on its own but the way DHC feels makes me so happy that foregoing a lipstick is just fine. Since I’m the one who always describes the scent I’m happy to report that there’s no taste and no fragrance. If I sniff the wand alone I notice a slight aroma but once on my lips all I notice is soft as silk lips and shiny beautiful color.

You can’t go wrong with any of the 5 shades. They’ve created some universal shades that are going to make your spring and summer even happier. DHC is mostly known for skincare but these liquid lipglosses prove that there’s a lot more to DHC than first meets the eye.

Pixi Beauty Blush Duo in Rose Gold brought out the first big smile upon unboxing this. Two silky blushes that apply like silk. Blush and highlight together cuts down on clutter. These shades are very subtle though you can build them up. My swatches are barely seen in the picture but the duo looks lovely when on my face. No shimmer is allowed even on the highlighter side. Instead it reflects light creating a subtle glow.

What isn’t available anywhere except in this kit is the Glow Booster. This beautiful PinkPearl cream adds a delightful radiance that is particularly flattering on my cool toned skin. It can be applied under your makeup, mixed in with foundation, or applied just where you want to bring some attention. I l.o.v.e. that it’s not fragranced and I love the subtle iridescence of it. My favorite ways to use this is either right on my cheeks prior to apply blush or just above my cheekbones to bring just a touch of gleam.

Wear red lips for the Lunar New Year

Chinese new year rooster

2017 is the year of the Rooster. It’s just one of the 12 animals that represent the Lunar New Year. There are 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac: the rat, the ox, the tiger, the rabbit, the dragon, the snake, the horse, the goat, the monkey, the rooster, the dog and the pig. Each animal has attributes that are said to be part of their year especially for newborns.

Roosters are considered to be in charge of time, i.e. crowing to greet the day, as well as being hard working and diligent. If you were born in the year of the Rooster your lucky numbers are 5,7. and 8 but avoid 1, 3, and 9. Your lucky flowers are Gladiolas, Cockscomb and Impatiens. Your colors are golden, brown, brownish yellow, and yellow but it’s best to stay away from white and green.

The holiday is celebrated with fireworks in Asian countries and in cities with large Chinese populations. Red is the lucky color for the Lunar New Year which began on January 27th in the evening and is fully celebrated on January 28th, 2017. Celebrants wear red, decorate with red, and receive red paper envelopes with money to start the year with prosperity. Red is believed to ward off bad luck and misfortune. For people born in a year of the Rooster, wearing red underwear is a must for 2017.

Making waves with Modern Merbabe the Boxycharm July box

Boxycharm for July 2016

Boxycharm for July 2016

I’m sure you’ve heard of Boxycharm. It’s become my favorite subscription box and the July box shows me why this has made me so happy. Let me start by telling you that a subscription is $21 a month and you’ll receive only full size items. It can be 4 or 5 each month. This month the box has a value of $120. Not a bad investment at all.

Boxycharm for July 2016

Boxycharm for July 2016

As with all subscriptions you may not have bought the items to begin with so the value of $120 may be high but not worth it to you. For me this month’s Boxycharm is a winner and one I’m very excited about.

OFRA PROFESSIONAL MAGNETIC PALETTE AND 6 EYESHADOW PANS

OFRA Magnetic Palette and eyeshadows

OFRA Magnetic Palette and eyeshadows

How could I not be excited about this? I’ve been thinking of buying a new Z palette since mine are almost filled and I’d like to organize better. Not only do I not have to do that but I got 6 gorgeous shadows that would retail for $12 each on their own. These don’t have names imprinted on them and I can’t really tell from the OFRA website but there are 3 beautiful shimmer shadows and 3 mattes. All 6 are very workable shades with the shimmers and the light yellow shade (could be Banana Highlighter Powder) my favorites. They’ve valued this set at $59 but I think they undervalued it since the shadows alone would be $60.

OFRA eyeshadows

OFRA eyeshadows

MALLY BEAUTY is included this month too and I got lucky. Some boxes received an Ice Blue Mally Waterproof Eyeliner pencil ($18) while others got one of two Mally Rounded Blender Brushes ($15). I love brushes so having this green metallic brush is a little piece of heaven.

The brush has longer hairs than my other blending brushes so it’s a great change of pace for me. Into my brush cups this went instantly.

To add to the thrill of this box there’s a NOYAH LIP GLOSS in Malbec ($16), a wine berry shade. I remember when Noyah only had lip balms and I lovingly reviewed them. It’s great to see how far they’ve come. This is a natural lip gloss made without made without sulfates, parabens or phtalates. The packaging is adorable with an earth friendly bamboo top.

To top off the beauty in this sweet box is PYT HAIR Oil Treatment ($30). While I’ve only used it once I was amazed at the shine I suddenly had from the treatment. It’s made with Argan Oil which I already know is great for my skin or hair. It’s safe for color treated hair and it helps leave hair frizz free.

Ingredients: Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Argania spinosa kernel oil, Fragrance (Lilial, D-Limonone, Hydroxycitronellal, Lyral, Geraniol, Citronellol, Coumarin), Triticum vulgare (Wheat) germ oil, Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) seed oil, Panthenol.

I’m thrilled to learn about this new brand and use it in my routine.

Even though I don’t have a clue why this month’s Boxycharm is called Modern Merbaby (other than they do say “Let’s Make Waves”) I still think it’s one of the best I’ve received from my subscription. Now I can’t wait for another month to pass so I can get my next one. Are you a subscription box fan? — Marcia

Get triple hydration with Mally H3 Lip Gloss

Mally Beauty needs no introduction. We all know and love Mally with her bubbly personality and wonderful products. We love it even more when new products are introduced though and today we have Mally H3 Lip Glosses that are unlike any that Mally has ever introduced us to.

Mally H3 Lip Glosses

Mally H3 Lip Glosses

There are 6 total shades: Pink Daisy, Shimmering Nude, Sweet Peach, Tea Rose, Perfect Nude and Orchid Berry. All six can be found at Ulta.com for $20 each plus at QVC there’s a trio for $36. We were lucky enough to be sent 2 of these to do a Side by Side review but we think we are going to be buying more of these ASAP.

H3 stands for the triple hydration these glosses give you. “Get enviable, fierce coverage with this ultra-moisturizing high-shine gloss that is formulated with antioxidants and plenty of moisture, leaving your lips full and sparkling.”

MARCIA and her TEA ROSE H3 GLOSS

Mally H3 Gloss in Tea Rose

Mally H3 Gloss in Tea Rose

Tea Rose is such a Marcia color. I’m crazy about Tea Rose. What makes me even happier though is that Mally’s new H3 glosses feel so different from other glosses. Their triple hydration makes them feel so soft and moisturized. In general I’m not a lip gloss person like my partner Lisa. She looks so fabulous in glosses and loves them to pieces. I prefer a lipstick or liquid lipstick. But Mally has taken that bias away with this gloss.

Tea Rose in artificial light

Tea Rose in artificial light

Tea Rose indirect sunlight

Tea Rose indirect sunlight

Tea Rose is the perfect pinky peach with a small amount of sparkle to it that can’t be felt but that brings my lips to life. This is the shade that I always seek when shopping. This H3 gloss isn’t sticky at all. Even though Tea Rose is a fairly light shade, it imparts plenty of color and I can wear it alone or with a lipliner. I have to thank Mally for bringing out this new formula and ask her to create more “gorgois” shades.

LISA and her BERRY ORCHID H3 GLOSS

I definitely am a lip gloss person…I always need lots of slip on my lips. If my lips feel dry I get very antsy…in fact, I don’t even care if it’s rude, I put my lip gloss any time, anywhere because the alternative drives me batty. Most of my lip glosses are in the berry family so I had a feeling I was going to be happy with the Berry Orchid shade.

Mally Berry Orchid H3 Gloss

Mally Berry Orchid H3 Gloss

Mally Berry Orchid H3 Gloss

Mally Berry Orchid H3 Gloss

Berry Orchid is actually much deeper than I expected from the bottle. It has a slight shimmer that’s very pretty. My only issue with this gloss is the doe foot wand applies too much gloss for my thin lips. If I’m not careful, I find lots of gloss in the corners of my mouth – which is not a good look. So I’m careful to kind of scrape the doe foot along the side of the container as I pull it out, which solves the ‘corner gloss’ problem.

Mally Berry Orchid H3 Gloss

Mally Berry Orchid H3 Gloss

Mally H3 Gloss lives up to the triple hydrating, giving me soft and hydrated lips. The wear time is normal for a non-sticky gloss. While it would be awesome if it lasted longer, I still love this gloss and wear it all the time.  Nicely done Mally!
