White Sands hair care revitalizes and smoothes

White Sands Revitalizing Shampoo and Conditioner, Porosity The Fix, The Cure 24/7 Serum

It’s always interesting to me is to learn about the companies that I’m using and going to share with you. I’m not talking about the big department store brands that we are all familiar with but I am interested in the independent companies that have a story behind them.

White Sands Haircare

White Sands Hair Products were created by the Salas family with a small amount of money and one product. Once they were able to introduce their product at the Orlando Premiere Beauty Show, sell everything they brought, they began their journey from there. Their American dream had begun and now fine salons throughout the country know their story.

Lisa already reviewed the three White Sands products she received and now it’s time for me to take you back to the beginning of your shower time with White Sands Orchid Bliss Revitalizing Shampoo and Conditioner (as well as two others).

White Sands Orchid Bliss Revitalizing Shampoo and Revitalizing Conditioner

There are 3 different shampoo and conditioner lines created by White Sands and I was thrilled to receive Orchid Bliss. These two products are wonderful for hair like mine: color treated and needing frizz control. Orchid Bliss shampoo and conditioner use the anti-aging characteristics and mineral richness of the orchid flower. As someone who is averse to fragrance in products I was a little leery of what this would bring. All I can say is that it’s wonderful. The fragrance is minimal and actually one I only notice in the shower. After I dry my hair I don’t notice it all. What I do notice though is a shiny head of hair that is moisturized and soft, one that isn’t looking or feeling dried out, one that isn’t as affected by humidity.

Orchid Bliss Revitalizing Shampoo and Conditioner are sulfate free so I feel they’re safer for my hair. One ingredient I look for in haircare is Sodium and unfortunately the shampoo does contain Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulforate and other varieties of sodium. That hasn’t been a deal killer for me now but once I get another keratin treatment I’ll have to put the Revitalizing Shampoo to the side for a few months. Luckily for me the other products I’m using, including Revitalizing Conditioner will continue to be used once the treatment is done. The conditioner is best if you leave it in for about a minute but that’s not an unusual direction.

White Sands the Cure 24/7 serum and Porosity the fix

I’m never done when my shampooing and conditioning are finished. Next is towel drying with my Aquis hair towel and a treatment product or two to work through my hair and make it easier to style.

White Sands the CURE 24/7 serum

White Sands the Cure 24/7 serum

White Sands compares The Cure 24/7 to a blur cream. I think that’s a great way to think about this product. The serum is a leave in reconstructive treatment with visible results. It is known for repairing damaged hair fibers, making your hair stronger and healthier, and restoring hair that’s been abused. As someone who uses 2 – 3 heat tools a day I need this. I’d been torturing my hair and needed this to make my hair look smoother and less flyaway. It’s done just that. While I don’t notice that I have split ends that’s one of the positives that White Sands talks about with The Cure. I spray this on and then comb through my hair prior to blow drying.

White Sands Porosity The Fix

White Sands Porosity The Fix is an old friend of mine. My hairdresser is a huge fan of White Sands and Porosity The Fix is a product she uses on me whenever I’m in for color and cut. Just like The Cure 24/7 was compared to a blur product, The Fix has been compared to makeup for hair. This is especially great for people who color treat their hair since it temporarily fills in the “blemishes” found in each strand. Porosity The Fix is wonderful prior to any heat use, especially a flat iron. My hairdresser uses this as my shine product when she’s done with my hair. I use it that way too but also prior to using my flat iron. I can use this daily without worrying about build up.

All in all I’m thrilled to have White Sands in my repertoire. The fear of fragrance was wrong wrong wrong. What little fragrance I notice is irrelevant but my great looking hair is very relevant. Something you and your hair will notice and love too.  —  Marcia

Our Kenra Professional Hair Care experiences

One of the great things about being blog partners is that Lisa and I (Marcia) can share experiences and products. We are always gabbing back and forth over what we’ve used and what we love. We also insist that each other use products that we’ve fallen in love with.  That’s the case with KENRA PROFESSIONAL HAIR PRODUCTS. Lisa fell in love with the products she reviewed and insisted that I would love them too. Kenra happily shared more items with us which we appreciate.

MARCIA’S PRODUCTS

Kenra Daily Provision and Kenra Platinim Smoothing Creme

Kenra Daily Provision and Kenra Platinim Smoothing Creme

I was looking for styling products including something to protect my hair before flat ironing. I’ve had trouble finding something that wasn’t too wet since I didn’t want to fry my hair. I wanted something gentle without a heavy fragrance but that was powerful enough to hold up to a hot hair styling tool. KENRA DAILY PROVISION to the rescue. This leave-in conditioner was exactly what I was hoping it would be.

Kenra Daily Provision

Kenra Daily Provision

This $15 spray is double duty and when I can get everything I need in one handy item, I’m thrilled. I can spray this on my wet from the shower hair and it becomes the leave in that I need when I’m using my blow dryer. Or I can use it whenever I want before I style with any heated tool. It’s very lightweight but it does the job perfectly. It’s never too heavy, it’s never sticky, it protects against UV, color, and adds the thermal protection I’ve been seeking.

I love that it helps with humidity and frizz too. I don’t use dry shampoo very often so this is the type of refresher that I prefer. There’s a light fragrance that I notice at first only.

Super ingredient list:

  • Amodimethicone A water soluable silicone that imparts shine, manageability and anti-static properties.
  • Daily Provision Complex (Chamomile, Horse Chestnut, Sage. Nettle, Lemon Balm, Coltsfoot Leaf, Rosemary, Birch, and Horsetail) A complex that provides scalp soothing benefits, adds shine and moisture to hair and provides an uplifting aroma.
  • Cetrimonium Chloride A conditioning agent that detangles the hair and improves wet combing.
  • Hydrolyzed Silk Protein A protein that provides strength to hair.
  • Benzophenone-4 Sunscreen for UV protection from drying and color fade.
Kenra Platinum Smoothing Creme

Kenra Platinum Smoothing Creme

KENRA PLATINUM SMOOTHING CREME is the other product I’ve been using. It’s replaced my old favorites and it did that instantaneously. I can’t believe how smooth this makes my hair feel and how it helps with blow drying. It doesn’t take much to rub through my shoulder length hair. I’m able to comb through my hair quickly and easily once applied.

Kenra Platinum Smoothing Creme 3 short pumps

Kenra Platinum Smoothing Creme 3 short pumps

The Smoothing Creme is part of the Platinum line which is a salon sold line. It is available at drugstore.com but I had trouble finding anyplace else that sells it online. I recommend tracking it down if you love silky soft hair that stays clean for days. Using this your hair is protected from UV rays as well as the heat or your blow dryer and other heated tools. I use this after washing my hair and save Daily Provisions for the days I just style.

Super ingredients:

    • Dimethicone Silicone, hair conditioner.
    • Panthenol and Sodium PCA Provides moisture and restores shine.
    • Cinnamidopropyltrimonium Chloride UV filter that helps to prevent damage and to preserve color. Also provides thermal protection from blow drying and curling irons

Kenra Hair Care

Kenra Hair Care

A while back I fell in love with my Kenra Platinum Thickening Glaze as well as the Thickening Glaze and I couldn’t stop raving about them to Marcia. I had very high expectations for the next three products I tried from Kenra and I’m happy to say I wasn’t disappointed.

Kenra Hair Care

1.  Color Maintenance Shampoo for Color Treated Hair  ($23)  I love this shampoo because it cleans my hair and keeps my color looking fresh and bright. It does everything a great shampoo should do, including:

  • Gently cleanses and replenishes moisture without stripping hair color
  • Improves manageability and readily detangles
  • Helps to strengthen chemically challenged hair
  • Adds vibrance and shine
  • Great for all hair types
  • Helps extend the life of color/color safe
Ingredients like coconut oil-derived cleansers and botanical extracts protect hair color and this shampoo is a terrific match with the coordinating conditioner.

2.  Color Maintenance Conditioner for Color Treated Hair ($31) This is a bit of an oddball product. The texture really threw me off at first – it’s a little watery and very gritty. I have found that it’s helpful to shake the bottle before using and I have to say it has become one of my most favorite hair care products. It accomplishes a lot:

  • Gently cleanses and replenishes moisture without stripping hair color
  • Improves manageability and readily detangles
  • Helps to strengthen chemically challenged hair
  • Adds vibrance and shine
  • Great for all hair types
  • Helps extend the life of color/color safe
I think the grittiness is from the silk proteins that repair hair and calm any frizziness. Also, the emollients are perfect for smoothing and detangling color treated hair.

3.  Platinum Blow-Dry Spray ($22)  This smells fabulous….really clean and fresh. I normally don’t particularly like fragranced hair products, but this is one to buy just because it smells so perfect. Other pluses?  It helps my hair dry faster and is a great detangler. Here are all the benefits:

  • Dramatically decreases blow-dry time by 50%
  • Provides intense heat protection from damage and breakage
  • Lightweight formulation detangles, smoothes, and softens
  • Eliminates frizz and resists humidity
  • Provides long-lasting, healthy looking results
All together, my Kenra Professional Hair Care trio makes for a wonderful hair day every time I use them.  Marcia and I don’t just want to enlighten each other – we want our readers to join in on the secrets to the best products, and Kenra Professional Hair Care products are definitely ones to add to your must-try list!

Top Ten Tuesday – Hair Masks, Conditioners and Treatments

TOP TEN TUESDAY is addressing hair this week. We’ve chosen hair masks as our topic but that extends (in my world) to conditioners and treatments for my hair. As bloggers we have more of these products than most people I’m sure, hopefully you’ll find some products that you will love having in your life. With winter peeking its ugly head, we all need more care for our hair. Enjoy — Marcia
1.  PRETTY LITTLE ELIXIR – This is my favorite of all my hair masks. It was created by both Phyrra (of Phyrra.net) and Future Derm. It takes longer than most of the other masks but it’s so worth it. This is the only hair mask that I use a shower cap with and it makes my hair as soft as a puppy.
2. BRAZILIAN BLOWOUT ACAI DEEP CONDITIONING MASQUE – I get a Brazilian Blowout or other keratin straightening treatment about every 7 months. No matter what treatment I have done I always turn to this Acai Masque. I think this whole Acai line is terrific and keep buying it. This masque is especially good to use once a week for the first month or two after a straightening treatment since it helps extend it.
3.  ECRU NEW YORK ACACIA PROTEIN MASQUE – I recently reviewed the ECRU New York Acacia shampoo and conditioner which I love. The masque is terrific, to be used with or without the other products. It’s highly recommended especially for color treated hair.
4.  BRIOGEO DON’T DESPAIR, REPAIR DEEP CONDITIONING MASK – This is one of Lisa’s favorite masks. I’ve tried a sample which was enough to make me include this rich, great smelling hair mask on my list. The ingredients are wonderful for your hair.
5. MONAT REJUVENIQE – Full review to come on this amazing hair oil that can also be used on your skin. Rejuveniqe helps with so many things like shininess, hair repair, and volume. Plus there are no silicones.
6. ROUX LEAVE IN TREATMENTS – There are 4 different kinds of Leave In Treatments from Roux and all are wonderful. My favorite changes from time to time but right now it’s the Extra Moisture one. These are leave ins so I don’t have to put anything more in my hair before I style it.
7.  KERASTASE CHROMA RICHE MASK – If you want an extra rich mask, this is the one to get. This is a very thick formula that you leave in for 5-10 minutes and then wash out. The fragrance is strong so I don’t use it often but if my hair looks damaged I do reach for this one.
8.  NELSON J ARGAN OIL MOISTURE HEALING MASK – I haven’t used this but I’ve certainly heard my blog partner Lisa rave about it enough. She is crazy about this hair mask so it’s definitely worth a look at.
9.  AG HAIR RECONSTRUCT ANTI-BREAKAGE MASK – I’ve enjoyed using all the AG Hair products that I’ve tried. This mask is great for hair like mine that does break and shed easily.  It’s great for using as a short term conditioner that you rinse out quickly or a longer time mask.
10.  DARSHANA NATURAL INDIAN HAIR OIL – This miraculous oil leaves hair as beautiful and shiny as a movie star’s. The creators of this treatment used only natural ingredients (natural Ayurvedic Oils) and left out silicone, parabens, sulfates, mineral oil making this a cruelty free product. If you want shine, Darshana is the way to go.

At first I didn’t know if I could come up with 10 but I realize now that I’m lucky enough to have found 10 with others on my almost list. Have you a favorite hair mask or treatment?
Join the other Top Ten ladies to see what’s missing in your shower. – Marcia

Bye bye Birchbox, bye bye

The May 2013 Birchbox is my last one. 31 months of buying it for $10 a month has come to an end. In reality, I haven’t gotten close to $310 worth of products that I like. I’d been mulling this over since December but they redeemed themselves only to fail (in my eyes again).

Birchbox May 2013 contents

Birchbox May 2013 contents

My biggest problem with this box and almost all subscription boxes is fragrance. I’m actually the wrong candidate for some of the boxes because they love fragrance and every fragrance company around seems to love loading the subscriptions up. It’s cheap advertising. May’s fragrance was so strong that my entire box smelled like it from the second I opened it. Everything in the box is permeated with Folle de Joie. It’s probably a lovely fragrance – it’s just not for me.

The box seemed very skimpy to me as well. Besides the fragrance there’s a Coola sunscreen sample, a Sumita eyeliner, Beauty Protector and a Pilot pen.

Beauty Protector: “great for all hair types; this nourishing elixir locks in color, adds shine, and instantly detangles.”

Beauty Protector

Beauty Protector

Coola Clasic Face SPF 30 Cucumber Moisturizer for Face: “this mineral sunblock is infused with organic antiaging ingredients like evening primrose extract and borage seed oil”. This will end up in my purse for emergency SPF coverage.

Coola Sunscreen SPF 30

Coola Sunscreen SPF 30

Sumita Color Contrast Eyeliner: mine is black. This comes in a set of 4 mini pencils of other shades. “inspired by traditional Indian formula, this velvety liner glides on easily and lasts for hours”. In trying to figure this out I read that Kim K’s makeup artist uses this liner on her so maybe it has possibility. A full size one is $11, the minis are a set of 4 for $21.

And for my favorite product in the box (if it ever airs out) is the bonus of a Pilot Pen Acroball. “Acroball PureWhite offers vibrant ink colors and all the smoothness of a gel ink liner with none of the smudging or smearing.”

I personally think that Birchbox is a good deal IF you like the items but the fragrance drove me away. I opened the box to finish my review and the aroma is carried through my room. Bye Bye Birchbox, Bye Bye. — Marcia

Happily introducing DermOrganic Argan Infused hair products

Raise your hand if you are slightly neurotic about how your hair looks. C’mon, I know more of you feel this way. Raise your hand. Yes, I see them now. You don’t operate well if you are having a bad hair day. I know I don’t. I’m not going to hide indoors but I sure don’t feel my best. Nothing looks quite right unless my hair looks good. With DermOrganic‘s products my hair days are good ones. I can go three days and still have a good hair day.

Recently I introduced you to DermOrganic just as I was starting to use the line myself. At the time I was able to do a giveaway for the line. (At the bottom of this review there’s another instant giveaway but hold on and read about my experience please.)

DermOrganics Daily Conditioning Shampoo and Conditioner

DermOrganics Daily Conditioning Shampoo and Daily Hydrating Conditioner

I received quite a few products to test out and have been using 4 of them lately. It’s a wonderful system for a lot of reasons that I believe in strongly. When you are looking for haircare what you need to check on first is if the product has sulfates. Sulfates are a big no-no. You do not want them in your haircare. Trust me on this! You also don’t want sodium chloride in your hair products – it sucks the life out of your color and any treatments you have on your hair. You also don’t want parabens, glycols, dyes etc.

DermOrganic promises

DermOrganic promises

So what do you want? How about a line that isn’t tested on animals? One that is vegan? One that contains certified Argan Oil, sunflower seed extract and grape seed extract? One that is ph balanced? If you said yes to any of these then the answer is DermOrganic ®. This Argan Oil infused product line contains only the purest Argan Oil from Morocco and is certified 100% organic.

DermOrganic Daily Conditioning Shampoo

DermOrganic Daily Conditioning Shampoo

DermOrganic Daily Conditioning Shampoo information

DermOrganic Daily Conditioning Shampoo information

I have a keratin treatment on my color treated hair so a line like DermOrganic® is perfect for me. Any sign of salt drains the treatment therefore reducing the time it’s active. With the amount I pay for a Brazilian Blowout treatment I need to extend the longevity of it and DermOrganic Daily Conditioning Shampoo® is the perfect answer. It’s a thick shampoo that has a rich foam. It’s unusual for a sulfate free shampoo to be so lush. I use leave-in treatments when styling and often a spray for frizz so I like DermOrganic’s Shampoo since it washes out cleanly without stripping my hair. It contains Omega-6, Panthenol B5, Rice Keratin and Anti-oxidants.

DermOrganic Daily Hydrating Conditioner

DermOrganic Daily Hydrating Conditioner

After washing I follow up with DermOrganic Daily Hydrating Conditioner®. (Another choice is the Intensive Hydrating Masque® which I’ll test out next.) I chose to use the conditioner since I wanted to compare the line with my previous haircare and that’s what I used in that line. I love the Hydrating Conditioner. It is truly hydrating. It’s very thick and feels so luxurious on my hair. It does all these wonderful things like detangle, keep static at bay, makes my hair easy to brush and style. It contains no sulfates or sodium chloride so it meets my criteria. My hair has been easy to comb and style after washing and conditioning with these two products.

DermOrganic Leave-In Treatment

DermOrganic Leave-In Treatment

For my leave-in treatment I’ve been going back and forth between two: DermOrganic Leave-In Treatment® and DermOrganic Leave In Spray Therapy®. The feel of these two products is almost identical so I’m discussing them together even though the ingredients are slightly different. The Leave-In Treatment is a thin almost watery consistency but don’t be fooled by how it looks. It’s loaded with argan oil and the ingredients to protect your hair against heat styling. The amazing thing about this is that when I use it my hair dries so fast. I’m always in shock. It’s so lightweight that it doesn’t weigh my hair down ever yet leaves it easy to manage.

DermOrganic Leave-in Spray Shine Therapy

DermOrganic Leave-in Spray Shine Therapy

The Leave In Spray Therapy® has that same consistency and does the same wonderful things for my hair. I like to spray it lightly all over my head and then comb through. I think what shocks me is that in the past I’ve always used balms or creams that were on the thick side so I didn’t expect to be able to comb through my hair with ease like I can with this Leave In Spray Therapy. It also helps dry my hair quickly and leaves it so shiny.

I don’t need to wash my hair daily anymore but I purposely washed my hair a few days in a row to see if it would affect managing it. The result was even better hair days.

I’m very impressed with the DermOrganic line. There’s so much I could repeat from the manufacturer but I’m going to end by telling you that this is definitely a line you should consider and that you won’t be sorry. Oh and you can put your hand down too if you haven’t already, it must be tired by now. — Marcia

Oops, I promised a giveaway I learned about. This is not being run on Beauty Info Zone. It’s a giveaway I found on Facebook for a sample set of the wonderful DermOrganic products so go there to enter soon.
