Smells sooo good…Lavanila The Healthy Candle in Pure Vanilla

LaVanila The Healthy Candle in Pure Vanilla

LaVanila The Healthy Candle in Pure Vanilla

I am a candle person.  I know, some people prefer plugins or melts.  I also love my diffusers for scents.  But every single day I light candles, and I really dig Lavanila’s candles for bedside ambiance.  There is nothing better after a long day than getting into comfy jammies, crawling under my super soft sheets, watching my favorite dvr’d programs – right now I am catching up on this season of RuPaul’s Drag Race (I can’t decide who I am rooting for – either Shea Coulee or Sasha Velour!)…all while surrounded by the flattering soft flicker of candlelight and a beautiful wafting scent.  Ahhhhh.  Lately my candle of choice is one Lavanila sent me to test – The Healthy Candle in Pure Vanilla ($19).

LaVanila The Healthy Candle in Pure Vanilla

The Lavanila The Healthy Candle in Pure Vanilla has a burn time of about 55 hours.  It’s made with 100% natural soybean wax and is hand-poured into a simple mason jar that can be repurposed, which is always a big plus.  It has a lead-free cotton wick and burns cleans.  The scent is fantastic – just pure, beautiful vanilla.  It’s truly perfect for the bedroom or for the kitchen.  It’s not really a foody vanilla that makes you hungry…it’s more of a clean, fresh vanilla that just feels comfy and homey.  I love it.

Take some time to relax and unwind with a Lavanila candle.  You deserve it, you really do.  – Lisa

Vanilla Blackberry and Vanilla Grapefruit…yummy scents from LaVanila

LaVanila vanilla roll on fragrances

When it comes to fragrance, I always go the vanilla route. If I see vanilla listed when scanning the notes, I know immediately that scent will be mine! As a result, I am a frequent flyer with the LaVanila Laboratories line, which is all about vanilla. LaVanila recently sent me two fragrances in their Healthy Roller-Ball ($19) packaging which is a favorite of mine because it’s so convenient.

The Healthy Roller-Ball fragrances are all natural and organic; there are no chemicals inside. I carry one in my purse at all times and it is a great option for travel. Plus, it comes in seven different fragrances:  Fresh Vanilla Lemon, Vanilla Lavender, Vanilla Coconut, Pure Vanilla, Vanilla Grapefruit, Vanilla Blackberry, and Vanilla Passion Fruit.

LaVanila Vanilla GrapefruitLaVanila Vanilla Grapefruit

LaVanila Vanilla Grapefruit is a modern, sexy vanilla scent that is warm but with a bite. I tend to think of citrus fragrances as more spring/summer, but the warmth of the vanilla makes this a perfect cool weather scent. The vanilla is beautifully rich in a very unexpected way.  Vanilla Grapefruit has notes of lime, patchouli, grapefruit, heliotrope, bergamot, Madagascar vanilla and sandalwood. I have to say up front that I detect NO patchouli in this…which a big plus for me because I am usually not a fan of patchouli. For my fellow migraine sufferers, this fragrance has no synthetics so it’s probably never going to trigger or exacerbate a headache. Another plus…men LOVE this scent. Vanilla drives my husband crazy…which is typical for men, from what I read. The top scents that turn a man on are all edible scents, with both vanilla and citrus at the top of the list (so is pumpkin pie, but that’s a whole other review topic!).

Vanilla Grapefruit truly transforms and morphs on my skin. The beginning is more citrus, like a just-cut juicy grapefruit. Then it morphs into a yummy, warm vanilla floating on delicious sandalwood. It still has a bite of the citrus but it’s a little more lime than grapefruit to my nose. The cedar also comes out, but it’s tempered by that soothing vanilla. After an hour or so, it settles into a wonderfully creamy and warm vanilla with that little citrus bite…like a really cute guy who has a touch of danger in him. Gorgeous, delicious, and tiny bit naughty.

If you are looking for a super fresh citrus scent, this isn’t your bottle of heaven. LaVanila Vanilla Grapefruit is more vanilla than anything, but if you want a fabulous warm vanilla with a twist of something different, it is exactly what you are looking for.

LaVanila Vanilla BlackberryLaVanila Vanilla Blackberry

The Blackberry Vanilla scent is a totally different sort of vanilla. The top notes are blackberry and raspberry, the middle note is iris, and the base note is vanilla. When I wear this, I initially smell the iris and vanilla, but then the scent matures and becomes more sweet. The sweetness isn’t a sickening sweet – it’s actually super fresh and clean, smelling slightly like jam. I think the Blackberry Vanilla is very different from the other LaVanila scents that tend to be warm, rich twists on vanilla. This one is actually a cool, refreshing scent. Well,  I guess it’s complicated, but in a good way – the vanilla is warm and the blackberry adds an intriguing coolness. And I get comments on this one all the time. Someone always asks me what I am wearing when I go Blackberry Vanilla.

One more thing I notice however, is that at least on me, this scent doesn’t seem to last as long as some of the other LaVanila Healthy Rollerball scents. However, that handy rollerball packaging makes it easy to reapply throughout the day. I really don’t have any other vanilla based scent quite like this one, so I highly recommend this as addition to your fragrance collection.

You can find the Healthy Rollerball fragrances by LaVanila online at and also at Sephora.  – Lisa

Beating the winter dry skin blues with LaVanila The Healthy Body Butter in Vanilla Lavender

I am addicted to body moisturizers all year-long – in the summer, I love body oils. In the winter, my skin is exceptionally dry, so I love body butters. I’ve used and loved LaVanila’s The Healthy Body Butter ($19) in the past, but this was my first time trying the Vanilla Lavender scent.  Usually I stay away from lavender…it’s just too sharp for me and sometimes it even triggers a migraine. But this soft, sweet scent has won me over!                                                                                                                                                                 sample

There are many reasons why I always have a big tube of The Healthy Body Butter on my bathroom counter. Lots of body butter have things I’m not crazy about, like parabens, silicone and mineral oils. Those kinds of ingredients clog up your pores, actually blocking the absorption of the good ingredients. The Healthy Body Butter is indeed healthy, because it doesn’t have any of the bad stuff but it has plenty of vitamins and antioxidants.

Body Butter

LaVanila The Healthy Body Butter

The lotion is subtly scented and pairs beautifully with other scents. It has 100% pure shea and cocoa butters to moisturize, along with goji berry and Kakadu Plus for anti-oxidant power. This body butter is sooo thick and creamy, it really does seem almost buttery. It looks like it would take a little work to get it absorbed, but it soaks in beautifully and leaves my skin softly scented and super smooth. The 100% pure shea & cocoa butters make it a great winter protectant. You smell good and you feel soft. The Vanilla Lavender is a blend of Spanish Lavender, rose and vanilla, which makes for a very soft but sexy scent.

If you’re like me and constantly battling dry winter skin, be sure to pick up one of these big huge tubes of goodness from LaVanila!  – Lisa

Sweating with Orange Theory and getting clean with LaVanila The Healthy Body Wash 3-in-1 Sport Luxe

I have been taking advantage of my extra time off this summer by concentrating on getting fit and healthy. Last June I discovered Orange Theory Fitness, which is a nation-wide gym based on the theory that keeping your heart rate at a particular level (the orange level) for at least 12 minutes in an hour results in an increased metabolic rate for the next 36 hours. That means less working out and more burning fat!

Orange Theory FitnessWhat I love most about the Orange Theory classes is they totally fly by. It’s interval training with three different types of stations – treadmill, rowing machines, and weights – and you don’t do anything for very long, which means it never get monotonous. Hey, I can do pretty much anything for 90 seconds! I also love the results. I’ve never slimmed down so fast. What I don’t particularly love is how I smell after a class. I walk out of there so sweaty it literally looks like I just got out of the shower…although it definitely doesn’t smell that way.

LaVanila The Healthy Body Wash 3 in 1 Sport LuxeOnce I get home I immediately jump in the shower and lather up with Lavanila Laboratories Healthy Sport Luxe Bodywash ($16), which is a sulfate-free body wash that was created specifically for tackling the sweat and oil that come from a really great workout. Ingredients include coconut oil infused with something called Smartsport Technology, which is gentle but still cleanses like crazy. It also has rosehip and aloe, making it a nice base for shaving.

LaVanila The Healthy Body Wash 3 in 1 Sport LuxeThis sulfate-free body wash smells wonderfully fresh and clean in a unisex way – I guess the packaging suggests it’s marketed for women, but the men in your life will love it too.  The Healthy Sport Luxe Bodywash is part of the new ‘100% Healthy products made with love and without harsh chemicals’ from LaVanila. You won’t be reluctant to break a sweat with this terrific body wash!  – Lisa

1419726422_aaa_oil_30ALGENIST ADVANCED ANTI-AGING REPAIRING OIL – I’ve grown to love oil on my face but they aren’t all created equal. This past summer I was testing one by Yes to Blueberries and while the price was right, I finally gave up on it since it was too heavy. An oil needs to be gently absorbed and not sit on top of your skin. Algenist does just that. You can use a few drops or mix it with a serum. Either way it’s protecting my skin this winter and helping with the dehydration that I see.

Makeup Wars chooses favorite perfumes

Today for Makeup Wars Marcia and Lisa collaborated to bring you Lisa’s 5 favorite fragrances that have the scent of coconut in them. It might just be a small part of the fragrance but it’s enough to make Lisa happy as that’s her favorite scent. (When I write collaborated, I mean I made Lisa pick and tell me about the fragrances. She did the hard part, I’m just the facilitator. — Marcia)
1.  Bronze Goddess by Estee Lauder – This is a beach sunset in a bottle, a little bit of suntan oil, a lot of warm sand, and the soft scent of flowers breezing past.
2.  Viva La Juicy Gold Couture –  This is a fruity fragrance with yummy coconut and vanilla notes. This is a new addition to the Juicy Couture family and has become a favorite to wear for Lisa.
3.  LaVanila Vanilla Summer – This is a totally tropical scent with pineapple, mango, coconut milk, sugar cane, and Madagascar vanilla.  It brings me right back to sipping a pina colada on the beach in Mexico.
4.  Lisa Hoffman Tuscan Fig Parfum – this is a combination of Vanilla Bean, Honeysuckle, Coconut Wood and Gardenia.  It’s a sophisticated coconut scent, and the fragrance jewelry is to die for.
5.  Opus Oils Tropique – Opus Oils has some intriguing fragrance and Tropique really has stood out. It’s an inspired mix of chocolate, vanilla, coconut and coffee.  Delicious!
