You can’t go wrong with these drugstore classics: Carmex, Sally Hansen, and Jergens

overwhelmedWalking into the drugstore these days can be overwhelming…the sheer volume of choices is enough to make you want to back out the door and put shopping for beauty products on your list for another day. For those times when you are in doubt, here are three classic drugstore lines with my favorite products that always perform.       samples3 Classic Drug Store Brands

1.  Sally Hansen Nail Polish:  this is such a great line for nail polish, especially for my addiction to nude-ish colors. The polish goes on so easily with the flat, wide brush – in fact, I do believe Sally Hansen polishes have my favorite applicator brush of all time. There is a huge selection of shades available.

Some of my favorite nude-ish shades include #325 Au Nature-al ($7.99), a classy perfect nude, and #161 Shell We Dance, a pretty light pink.

2.  I love the Carmex® Classic Lip Balm Jar ($1.59) for preventing dry and flaky lips. The classic version comes in the familiar yellow jar and it has that scent that takes me way back every time I open it. Lip skin doesn’t have any sebaceous glands, which is why they need continual moisturizing. My only problem with my Carmex® Classic Lip Balm Jar is that my husband keeps stealing it, so now I always get two just in case. Carmex® Lip Balm can be found at retailers nationwide. For more information, please visit: www.mycarmex.com.Jergens Oil-Infused MoisturizerJergens Oil-Infused Moisturizer

3.  Looking for an awesome body moisturizer?  You can’t go wrong with Jergens. Right now they have out their Oil-Infused Monoi and Coconut Moisturizers ($4.99 each) which have the classic Jergens® body lotion infused with luxe, skin-softening oils. They are lightweight but give heavy-duty hydration to skin, while also making it soft and luminous. And the scents are so pretty!Jergens Oil-Infused Moisturizer

• Jergens® Oil-Infused Moisturizer With Nourishing Monoi: Harvested from the Tahitian Garden Flower and known for its intoxicating floral scent, Monoi Oil is a potent skin soother that’s been used by women for centuries. Combined with Jergens® deeply conditioning, protein-packed formula, it locks in moisture, smooths texture and tone, and leaves skin visibly radiant and softly scented.Jergens Oil-Infused Moisturizer

• Jergens® Oil-Infused Moisturizer With Refreshing Coconut Oil: Fortified with the deeply penetrative, hydrating properties of premium Coconut Oil— along with its invigorating, tropical scent—this enriching body lotion gives your skin instant luminosity, a superbly soft texture, and long-lasting moisture for a gorgeous, all-day glow.

Baby it’s still cold outside, protect with CeraVe, Eucerin and Jergens from Meijer

Beautiful winter girl outdoor portrait, woman at winter city

No matter where you live, winter is having an effect on you. In Michigan the weather is nuttier this year than ever. We went from temperatures in the high 20’s to low 60’s in one day. Then it dropped back down to the 30’s and the winds started up. We have a big winter storm in the works. What this all means for us is that our skin is in the midst of a crisis. The dry heat in the house, the cold bitter winds outside, the temperatures changing!

Meijer Stores sent along some products that they know will be good to keep us better hydrated and help with our immediate needs as well as long term reactions to the weather. These are some of the best products that they carry and ones you should be considering for your weather woes.

CeraVe

CeraVe

CERAVE is so well known, we hear people recommend it constantly. Their facial cleanser and moisturizer are the first items I see when people I know ask for gentle skincare recommendations. CeraVe is more than just those two products. They have a world of products for your entire family.

CeraVe has a new line of Healing Ointments that you don’t want to miss out on. This comes in 3 sizes: 12 oz. jar, 5 oz tube, and .35 travel size. I’ve been using the Healing Ointment on my feet. I’ve got an upcoming trip in the works and went for a pedicure; my nail tech could not believe the difference in my feet. She was expecting the worst and kept telling me how much better my feet were. I’ve already got the travel size ointment in my travel bag. This has done wonders for the cracked heels I used to have. Plus I know it will come in use for my husband when he does some goofy thing on the trip and needs relief.

The Healing Ointment is thick but it melts into your skin. It’s easy to maneuver though a little hard to get out of the tube so I may have to squeeze hard but this is head to toe goodness. You know I love fragrance free products and CeraVe is just that plus they contain ceramides and hyaluronic acid.

CeraVe Hydrating Body Wash and SPF Sunscreen stick

While the CeraVe SPF 50 Sunscreen Stick is also packed for my vacation, I know the real use will come when the sun is out and the kids are running around. Even my little one who fights me putting sunscreen on her face is fine when I rub a stick on her face. Since it’s water resistant it’s going to help to refresh the kids when the sprinklers come out too. The CeraVe Hydrating Body Wash is another fragrance free product that’s also soap & sulfate free as well as paraben free. The ceramides in it help repair the skin barrier and the hyaluronic acid attracts needed moisture to the skin’s surface. Thank you CeraVe for making my life so much better. EUCERIN was also in my box of goodies. This included a very rich lotion and repair cream. Eucerin Intensive Repair Rich Lotion for Very Dry Skin is the one that my husband uses even more than I do. Fragrance free, dermatologist recommended and exfoliating while also intensively hydrating dry skin. This lotion contains Alpha Hydroxy and special moisturizing ingredients to add back the moisture you’ve lost due to the extremities of winter. This is great when you are just getting out of the shower since your skin will absorb it even better when your pores are opened there.

Eucerin Original Healing Soothing Repair Creme is richer than rich. It’s very thick and at first doesn’t seem like it’s going to be absorbed but after you rub this onto your skin you’ll notice the softness and realize it’s already started to do its job. The drier your skin is, the more you need this Healing Repair Creme.

As you can see Meijer stores covers you head to toe. I’m there often to buy my groceries and I always make it to the health and beauty section which is much more exciting than yogurt and macaroni. What products do you like to combat dry winter skin? — Marcia
