I finished things! Amazing empties for March and April

It seems so rare for me to finish anything up completely other than a few staples but the last two months I actually did finish things and I’m ready for the dumpster with these. Until then see what got used up and what I think of these goodies.

March and April 2017 empties

March and April 2017 empties

Before I begin I must admit that I already threw away oodles and oodles of products. As I’m cleaning and packing I found so many that were started but never finished so I only kept the ones I really loved and tried to use those as much as possible. What you aren’t seeing is the trash that my neighborhood has seen!

Let me start with some staple items that I go through every single month and will continue to do so.

Q-tips and DHC Silky Cotton Squares

Q-tips and DHC Silky Cotton Squares

Costco knows me and my habits I’m sure. I buy these double packs of Q-Tips all the time. I use a lot of them in my life so buy stock in the company! I also have gone an unimaginable amount of DHC Silky Cotton Squares. I usually buy 6 at a time and they’ll last me for about 7 months. I noticed though that my last batch isn’t quite as soft as before so now I’m questioning whether they changed them. Anyone know?

Viviscal

Viviscal

I’m on auto-delivery from Amazon for these Viviscal Hair Supplements. I am on a maintenance dose and just take 1 per day rather than 2. I’ve mentioned many times about my hair growth problems and these help me a lot.

Bioderma Micellar Water, Dr. Brandt XYY Dual Fusion Water, Simple Micellar Wipes

Bioderma Micellar Water, Dr. Brandt XYY Dual Fusion Water, Simple Micellar Wipes

It’s obvious that I love Micellar Waters from this picture! I have a stash of Bioderma Sensibio H2O and made a point of finishing up the 500 ml and 100 ml bottles before I move. I have 1 more of each in my cupboard but won’t start those just yet. I did pick up a Garnier Micellar during a sale not long ago but that’s already packed and I also like Simple Micellar Water though I’ve noticed a slight fragrance with it. Simple Micellar Wipes are definitely my favorite wipes though. This is just a sample pack but I have a full size pack in use.

Dr. Brandt XYY Dual Fusion Water is one that I really enjoyed using but it is more expensive than these others. It feels more substantial though and it did a great job of cleansing.

Eclair Naturals Liquid Hand Soap, Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover

Eclair Naturals Liquid Hand Soap, Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover

I couldn’t begin to count how many Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Removers I’ve gone through since my first one. No matter how many others I try this is the one product that works for me time and again. I’ve already repurchased this and will again as soon as I move.

Eclair Naturals Liquid Hand Soap in Vanilla & Sweet Orange is a great natural soap that’s not drying. I’m stocked up on JR Watkins at the moment but I’ll repurchase this next.

Now for the fun stuff!

Miss Spa Oxygenating Bubble Mask and 24K Gold Creme Mask

Miss Spa Oxygenating Bubble Mask and 24K Gold Creme Mask

I’m not used to saving empties so in the past I never had them around. I purposely saved the packaging of Miss Spa Oxygenating Bubble Mask and 24K Gold Creme Mask since I totally love them. The 24K Gold Creme Mask is one I want to marry. The Oxygenating Bubble Mask was a fun bubbly alternative. I got three uses out of each package so it’s a bargain buy. I will definitely buy more after I test more of the Miss Spa masks I have.

Reviva Labs Vitamin C+ Antioxidant Serum, Hydroskin, IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Lines Serum

Reviva Labs Vitamin C+ Antioxidant Serum, Hydroskin, IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Lines Serum

I think I finished up Reviva Labs Vitamin C+ Serum but there might be a little left. Nothing pumps out anymore and I only see a drop inside. Reviva Labs is a favorite brand and this is a good example of why I like them. Very efficient and the price is great.

Hydroskin Skincare is a set I reviewed last month. I finished up all 4 of these products which is unusual for me but I dedicated myself to one solid month of just this line. I liked the way my skin looked with it. I still have 2 masks from them to use and review.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Lines Serum is ab fab! Not only do I love this anti-aging serum but I bought a new one before I was finished with the current one. This is my favorite skincare item from IT Cosmetics. I wish the price was less but I’ll continue buying and using this. I’m in love!

eye makeup empties

It’s a given that any time I would share an empty post that I’d have mascara. This time though I saved them after determining what needed to go before the big move. I found a lot of deluxe sample sizes and used them until dry or I didn’t care for them anymore.

In no particular order:

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara  –  always a favorite, I have another mini and a full size one still

Marc Jacobs Volume Mascara– while I liked the sample size from a kit I had bought I didn’t care for the full size one I had bought so it’s not to be purchased again.

Le Volume de Chanel  –  Love this even if this was tiny. I would buy it if I was flush.

2 more minis I forgot to picture: Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara which I loved and plan to buy one day soon. Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes, another dilemma since the sample was great but I wasn’t thrilled when I had it in full size.

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum – love, love, love this. It’s a perfect brown liquid eyeliner. This is the second one I’ve finished and I’m using my third. There will be a 4th and 5th for sure.

Smashbox Brow Tech To Go – while I didn’t use up the gel side I did use up every bit of the brow crayon side. It’s a very handy item but I just don’t need another right now.

IT Cosmetics No-Tug Waterproof Eyeliner in Black is one I enjoyed until it decided to break so I couldn’t use it anymore. I like these liners in general though and turn to them often when I want a pencil eyeliner.

A 3x use sample of Too Faced Shadow Insurance that was in my stash. I always have TFSI in my collection!

And one toss:

Z Palette

Z Palette

I got a few years worth of use from this but then it self-destroyed. It came apart and no longer is of use. I have others plus Z Palette is out of favor right now.

So there you have it. My empties, many of which are old standbys and a new love (Stila Huge Mascara) all wrapped up in my recycling bin for now.

What have you used up? —  Marcia

The most unusual skincare I’ve ever tried: Hydroskin. You can win a set in this giveaway

Hydroskin Starter/Travel Pack

Hydroskin Starter/Travel Pack

I don’t even know where to start with Hydroskin other than that it’s the most unusual skincare regime I’ve ever used. I couldn’t begin to count how many brands I’ve used since blogging and I’ve never encountered a brand like this before. When Hydroskin offered me a starter set I was intrigued and agreed to test. They made me promise to use it for a minimum of 30 days straight without any other brand. It’s hard for me to make such a promise but I did and I’m so enthusiastic about my experience.

Hydroskin products

Hydroskin products

There are 4 products to get you going with Hydroskin: cleanser, hydro mist, (HA) serum, C moisturizer. After washing up with their cleanser it will take you no more than 90 seconds to use all 3 of the remaining products. Actually you need to make sure you do it in 90 seconds or less to make the skincare the most effective.

Hydroskin is an Australian brand that ships to the US. They make their skincare in small batches to make sure they are their efficacy stays true. Plus their items use natural ingredients so they don’t want them waiting in a warehouse.

Hydroskin Cleanser

Hydroskin Cleanser

HYDROSKIN CLEANSER is a soap free gentle formula that uses unique ingredients to keep it anti-inflammatory.

Active Ingredients
Chamomile hydrosol is Chamomile Roman diffuse in distilled water. Chamomile Roman (Chamaemelum nobile) has been used for centuries to calm acne, rashes, eczema, wounds, dermatitis, and dry and itchy skin.

Coco Betaine (coconut) is derived from coconut oil and known as the “gentle cleanser”, it makes soft foam and washes away grime leaving no residue.

Polyglucose (sugar/glucose) is one of a new generation of cleansers derived from sugar starch. It is just as effective as sulphates, but extremely mild and non-toxic.

Olive Oil Esters (water-soluble olive oil) is water-soluble olive oil. It is very hydrating and is extremely proficient in avoiding dry and tense skin caused by over cleansing or exfoliating.

After using the cleanser (about 2 – 3 pumps will be enough for your face, neck and chest) rinse and pat your face dry.

Now let’s get the timer going!!hydroskin step book

HYDROSKIN HYDRO MIST contains vitamins B3 and B5. It’s a watery substance but it is the first step in making sure that you end up with an amazing complexion. It uses natural humectants to hydrate, brighten and lighten skin. It’s meant to soften wrinkles, reduce blotchiness, improve hydration and fade age spots. Now that’s a lot to swallow from a product that appears like water but it really is important to their system. The ingredients are wonderful and reading about them will make you want to use this for sure.

Hydroskin Hydro Mist

Hydroskin Hydro Mist

Apply 10 – 12 drops or sprays to your face, neck and chest and stop there. Do not wipe off. Leave it wet. After about 30 seconds you move on to the HA Serum. Now this is where I was lost at first. I didn’t use enough of the Hydro Mist though I moved on while it was wet. Mistake! This is the accelerator and you don’t want to misuse it. When I foolishly didn’t  use enough I didn’t care for the line but I soldiered on. My face felt dry and tight. I contacted Hydroskin only to find out it was me and not the skincare. Don’t skimp. I rarely sprayed it on preferring to splash it on with my hands. hydroskin step1

HYDROSKIN [HA] SERUM is my favorite product because of the Hyaluronic Acid used in this step. They combine miniHA™ and high molecular weight HA (Hyaluronic Acid) to produce rapid hydration and plumping of your skin. Apply 3 to 4 generous pumps of this over the wet Hydro Mist.

Hydroskin [HA] Serum

Hydroskin [HA] Serum

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) occurs naturally in the body and it is what attracts and binds water in the skin. HA has the ability to absorb up to 1000 times its weight in water. The result is a water-infused gel that feeds collagen and gives skin its plump firmness.

miniHA™ (Hyaluronic Acid) is extracted from plants using no corrosive chemicals. It has a very low molecular weight so that it can deeply nourish the skin right down to the collagen producing layer of the dermis. Meanwhile, high molecular weight HA sits on the surface, locking in and working with the miniHA™ to achieve optimal results.

hydroskin step2

Last in this process is Hydroskin C Moisturiser which contains a stable version of Vitamin C to make this moisturizer an “anti-aging powerhouse”.  Loaded with wonderful ingredients like Niacinamide, mini Hyaluronic Acid, 3 Natural Emollients: Meadowfoam Seed Oil + Avocado Oil + Sweet Almond Oil, and d-panthenol (vitamin B3), plus Organic Vegetable Glycerin is hygroscopic, that is, it absorbs moisture from the air and brings it to the skin. Use 3 to 4 pumps of this as your last step over your wet skin.

Hydroskin C Moisturizer

Hydroskin C Moisturizer

hydroskin step3

Your skin is going to feel wet for a short time and it may seem unusual to you as it did me. I’m used to richer creams and products that absorb quickly into my skin. But this singular line has its own process and cachet. The only thing I added to this routine was sunscreen in the morning and eye cream twice a day.

Hydroskin Starter/Travel Set

Hydroskin Starter/Travel Set

The sample/travel set costs $79.50 USD and will last you about 3 weeks if used in the right amounts. I finished the moisturizer before any of the other products so I’ve used the others with another moisturizer and still had pretty good results. I’ve felt that my skin has looked particularly nice and I’m not noticing sagginess, as much discoloration or redness, nor is my skin craving hydration even in the winter winds. I’ve actually gotten compliments on my appearance which is a rare thing. While this may break the paradigm I’ve become accustomed to, I grew to love the results.

Hydroskin is a skincare regimen that works for all skin types. It’s non-fragranced (insert heart here), cruelty-free, made from natural ingredients, and it works. After this experience I’d be delighted to try their Kakadu Plum Ultimate Vitamin C Serum as well as their Organic Manuka Honey Mask. —  Marcia
