New Year’s beauty with Milani

Makeup Wars chose the topic of last minute gifts today but as I was perusing websites I realized that it’s almost too late for items to be shipped in time for Christmas. So I’m talking about New Year’s Eve instead and the pretties you can get in time for that special occasion.

Milani Hypnotic Lights and Stellar Lights

If there’s ever a time to glitter and glow it’s now. With Christmas and New Year’s Eve in a 7 day period you get to pull out all the stops Go for gorgeousness with cosmetics that won’t break the bank – MILANI.

Ever since I first discovered Milani it’s been a favorite brand and one that I can rely on. I’m insanely attracted to highlighters but I don’t use them enough to spend a fortune on them. When Milani sent these highlighters my way I was sitting on Cloud 9. Testing and wearing them has been delightful and will continue to be for the holiday events coming up.

HYPNOTIC LIGHTS Powder Highlighter is available in 4 gorgeous shades ($13). They remind me of Becca highlighters which are more than 3x the cost. A similar intoxicating design, soft holographic colors and a wonderful glow.

Milani Hypnotic Lights Highlighter in Luminous Light

This powder is infused with light reflecting pearls that illuminate and give a soft almost imperceptible glow yet move your head and the pink iridescence shows to its best advantage. The highlighter is so soft to the touch, you want to pet it! Wear it over blush or eyeshadow for a look that will bring out the Cinderella in you. I have Luminous Light, a soft pink, and there’s also Beaming Light (light lavender), Luster Light (light peach), and Flashing Light (golden tones). To boost the color more spray your setting spray (Milani Make It Dewy) on your blending brush first. You can find Luminous Light and Luster Light at Ulta and all 4 at Milani.com.

Milani Hypnotic Lights Highlighter in Luminous Light

For a little more razzle dazzle you’ll want to give STELLAR LIGHTS Highlighting Palettes a whirl. These powders have some glitter in them but it’s not glitter you’ll find all over your face or clothes when you wear them. There are two palettes that contain 3 shades in them ($13) which you can wear separately or mix/match.

Milani Stellar Lights Highlighting Palettes

Holographic Beam is a cool toned dream with its soft iridescent blue, pink and peachy gold.

Milani Stellar Dreams in Holographic Beam

Milani Stellar Dreams in Holographic Beam

The shades  in both of these Stellar Lights palettes are micro-milled and buildable so it can be used by the young adventurous lovelies and the older stylish ladies alike. The shades are very richly pigmented and give a multi-dimensional highlighting effect.

Milani Stellar Dreams in Rose Glow

Milani Stellar Dreams in Rose Glow

Milani Stellar Dreams in Rose Glow is a warmer palette with a beautiful white, fabulous gold, and terrific rose gold. The shades can be used in several ways. Apply them where sunlight or candlelight hit your face using either a blush brush or your fingers. Use your finger to gently dab the colors onto the inner corners of your eyes and on the Cupid’s Bow. Use your brush to apply a shade along the bridge of your nose and cheekbones and blend. While you probably don’t need both palettes, you wouldn’t be sorry if you bought both!

Milani Amore Shine and Stellar Lights

Milani is known for their lip products for good reason. You’ve more than likely seen their lipsticks and liquid lips touted online and that’s because they have a wide variety of colors for every woman’s taste and they are so well priced at $9 each.

AMORE LIGHTS Liquid Lip Color is available in 12 shades. Unlike most liquid lip colors available these days these are shiny and not matte. In my opinion they are so much easier to wear than a matte lip. The applicator tip makes them a breeze to apply since it hugs your lips while dispensing the color evenly. “Designed with a weightless texture and non-sticky feel for hours of non-feathering, comfortable wear. Contains a pout-loving blend of emollients and collagen microspheres, so lips appear full and voluminous.”

Milani Amour Shine Liquid Lip Color in Crush and Seduction

Milani Amour Shine Liquid Lip Color in Crush

One swipe really gives me enough color to do my lips. I like to put some on my bottom lip, rub my lips lightly together and then use the tip of the brush to even it out. When I wear Crush I find it lasts well and leaves a light stain behind. It doesn’t feather on me at all. I am very happy to report too that I don’t notice any fragrance with Amore Shine.

Milani Amour Shine Liquid Lip Color in Crush and Stellar Lights in Prismatic Pink

Now for true holiday fun you’ve got to try STELLAR LIGHTS Holographic Lip Gloss. These are the shiniest glosses in town. There’s some contained micro-glitter in the color and if you aren’t careful you’ll find some glitter travels but it’s worth it when you want to sparkle.

Just look at these colors. To die for. There are 6 in all (Opalescent, Iridescent Blue, Luminous Peach, Prismatic Pink, Flourescent Fuchsia, and Kaleidoscopic Purple, $9). These are lightweight and have holographic light reflective pearls in them giving you that prismatic shine. These do have a light cocoa fragrance to them but all you’ll notice is how enticing they make your lips look. Wear these alone or put them over your lip color of the day.

Milani Stellar Lights Holographic Lip Gloss in 01 Opalescent and 04 Prismatic Pink

MILANI Cosmetics are found in many mass market stores along with some at Ulta and lots of special items like these Holographic ones on their website. As a cruelty free company that strives to produce products to complement all ethnicities, skin tones, and ages I think they’ve done a fabulous job. Party makeup doesn’t have to be expensive but it needs to be as beautiful as these products. Have a fantastic holiday. —  Marcia

Deck the halls with POPs of Illuminating Powders

pop beauty’s Prismatic Pop Illuminating Powders.

In Michigan when we talk about “pop” we’re thinking soda like Coke, Pepsi, Squirt and more. But on Beauty Info Zone when we talk about “pop” we’re thinking pop beauty! As much as I enjoy a caffeine free diet “pop” I’d rather have pop beauty’s Prismatic Pop Illuminating Powders.

You can shine with the best of them with Prismatic Pop Illuminators.  These cruelty free highlighters are only $12 and rival the ones that you’ve seen for double the price. They are silky shine without glitter. The luminosity is fabulous. While they are meant for your face I love them on my eyes. Gorgeous shine that doesn’t make me look like a disco ball.

There are 4 Prismatic Pop Illuminating Powders and all are simply stunning. The hardest part is choosing which one/s to buy.

CELESTIAL LIGHT

This is the lightest and the one that’s the brightest. There’s a slight pink tinge to it so it’s beautiful on cool tone complexions. This is the true definition of luminosity.

GILDED LIGHT

Just like the name implies, Gilded Light is the goldest one in the group. Not a harsh gold since none of these are dark. They are all ethereal shades. Perfect for holiday looks.

LUNAR LIGHT

Lunar Light has a bronze finish so it’s going to look fabulous on most people. Even I, with my very fair skin, can wear this though I think it might be better for someone with a deeper skintone than I have.

STELLAR LIGHT

Easily my favorite though all are fabulous. There’s a peach tinge to this and it works magically as a highlighter over my favorite pinky peach blushes.

It’s hard not to fall in love with these three dimensional powders that help your complexion also have a dimensional effect when you layer them over your blush. But don’t be afraid to try them on your eyes since the silky smooth formula will brighten and make your eyes POP!!  —  Marcia

Bronzers for those who don’t wear bronzers

Makeup Wars chose a topic for this week that is totally out of my comfort zone so I was sure I was going to bow out. I don’t fake tan, I don’t use bronzing lotions, and I barely wear bronzing cosmetics. But I gave this more time to come together in my head and I realized that I do wear bronzers every once in a while and the ones I use are so great that I need you to know about them. So I’m here with bronzers for those of you who don’t wear bronzers – I want to change your mind just like I changed mine.

favorite bronzers: IT Cosmetics Confidence in Your Glow, Pixi Beauty Strobe & Bronze, Senna Brilliant Bronze

Right now Pixi Beauty Strobe & Bronze (aka Strobe & Chisel Palette) that was done in collaboration with Maryam Maquillage is what’s gracing my vanity table and therefore my face. I have to tell you how much I love this palette even though I didn’t think of it at first when I thought bronzers. Yes it’s in the name but I don’t use it in the typical bronzer way. I actually just use these 6 shades as highlighters and blush.

Pixi Strobe & Bronze (Strobe & Chisel)

Pixi Strobe & Bronze (Strobe & Chisel)

There are 3 glow shades: Highline, Empress and Lex (peach, pinky lavender, gold) that satisfy my crazy urges for highlighting. I lust after highlighters but I know I’m too old to get away with them. But this palette satisfies my craving because the glow shades add an iridescence without adding glitter. All three are great blush toppers or highlighting shades – and yes I’ve worn them on my eyes.

Pixi Strobe & Bronze (Strobe & Chisel)

The 3 bronze/chisel shades: City Kitty, Statuesque, 917) are bronze without being too brown. The only true bronze in my opinion is Statuesque. City Kitty is a warm matte light brown that looks very natural on my skin while 917 has more of a pink undertone (that’s what my camera was picking up); I’d describe it as a cool light satin brown.

Pixi Strobe & Bronze (Strobe & Chisel)

At $20 Pixi has created a bargain palette that will carry you through all seasons and will work no matter what level of bronzing you prefer.

IT Cosmetics Confidence In Your Glow, Nude Glow and Heavenly Skin™ One-Sweep Wonder Brush #705

IT Cosmetics Confidence In Your Glow comes in three shades: Nude Glow, Natural Glow, and Warm Glow. Lisa has reviewed these here and I was insanely jealous and insisted that she bring me the one best for my pale complexion. I have gotten so much use out of this that it’s unreal. If I’m not wearing my precious cream blushes then it’s all about Nude Glow.

IT Cosmetics Confidence In Your Glow, Nude Glow

This triple threat has a little bit of highlighting, a beautiful blush, and a bronzing shade. I usually start with picking up the blush and applying it, then I’ll take the brush and sweep over all three shades to bring out the bronze and highlight. I make sure to use the brush from left to right to keep the lighter shades cleaner.

IT Cosmetics Confidence In Your Glow, Nude Glow

This is so silky soft that you’ll fall in love with it just for that reason. But remember it contains an anti-aging hydrolyzed collagen, peptides and Vitamin C infused formula. No shimmer in this at all. The brush is another amazing one from IT Cosmetics though you probably have a dual fiber brush you can use. If you want the brush as badly as I wanted it then go to QVC.com to purchase the set for $2 more than the compact alone.

Senna Brilliant Bronze in Dawn

Senna Cosmetics isn’t one that’s talked about much on beauty blogs but it’s a fabulous brand. Brilliant Bronze comes in two shades: Dawn and Sunset. This too is a duo of highlighter and bronzer. The difference between these Senna bronzers and my others is that the Senna is glittery. Dawn is gorgeous for cool toned complexions but I’ll only wear it for “fancy”. I don’t want to glitter in the day but give me a good party and I’m up for it.

Senna Dawn Brilliant Bronze

Senna’s Brilliant Bronze compacts are baked minerals that are said to condition skin with amino acids and nourishing plant proteins.

All three of the above are cruelty free products.

One last one that I couldn’t find for the main photo is a great drugstore find: Covergirl TruBlend Bronzer.

TruBlend Bronzer from Covergirl

TruBlend Bronzer has no shimmer but there’s a satiny finish that gives me some glow. What I love about this is that there’s no orange at all – just a beautiful golden bronze that I can lightly use to perk up my ghostly skin. This came out with the Katy Perry collection in a variety of shades but it seems like just the darkest one, Bronze, is still available.

What do you think of my bronzers for people who don’t use bronzers? Would any of these be suitable for you?  —  Marcia

Getting a glow with Pixi Glow-y Powder

Pixi Glowy PowderThe days have been dreary but my skin hasn’t!  Pixi has a wonderful powder highlighter created by the gorgeous lifestyle blogger, Aspyn Ovard, called Glow-y ($18). Pixi recently sent all three shades to test – two are all over highlighters, and one is specifically for cheeks. Here they are!Pixi Glowy Highlighter and Cheek PowderPixi Glowy Powder Cheek Powder

London Lustre:  This one is best for lighter skin tones. It’s a luminous soft champagne that gives a beautifully soft glow to cheeks, forehead, and chin. I also like to thin out my nose by using a darker contour shade on the sides, then smoothing this highlighter down the center of the bridge. Pixi London Lustre

Santorini Sunset:  Ahhhh….this one makes me long for a strappy little dress and long summer days! I can’t wait to brush this all over my arms and chest for a soft shimmery glow. The gold champagne is perfect for medium skin tones. Pixi Santorini Sunset

Rome Rose: Don’t be fooled by this one…it looks very bright, but it actually applies quite sheer then can be built up. It’s perfect for those days that you want a hint of glowy color, not full on blush. I know I will definitely use this all the time in the summer when I have a slightly deeper skin tone. It’s a really fabulous golden pink that should work for all skin tones.Pixi Rome Rose 2

The glow they give is actually quite soft – I swatched them pretty thick so you could fully see them. But actually they blend in beautifully and give a luminous, glow from within effect. The texture is like butter…so smooth and soft. It’s not the least bit powdery, so it actually seems to hydrate skin as it provides that pretty glow.

Overall, I really like these soft, beautiful, glowy powder highlighters. The pans are huge so I can’t imagine ever running out! You can find the Glow-y Powders and Pixi Beauty online and at Target stores.  – Lisa

Variety galore with Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold Ultra Blush Palette

Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold Blush Palette

Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold Blush Palette

If you are ready for the prettiest blush palette of the season, I have the perfect solution for you. Just check out the Makeup Revolution Ultra Blush Palette, Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold. Be ready to swoon. When I was sent this palette for review my mouth totally dropped open when I took it out of the box.

Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold Blush Palette

Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold Blush Palette

I stared at it for so long because I couldn’t believe the gorgeous shades it contained. As a fan of rose gold in my fashion and cosmetic life I was eager to receive this and the realization is better than I ever expected. The palette consists of 4 baked powder shades, 2 shiny highlighters, and 2 matte pressed powder shades for bronzing or blushing.

Makeup Revolution Ultra Blush Palette Golden Sugar 2

Makeup Revolution Ultra Blush Palette Golden Sugar 2

Numbers 1 through 4 are the ones I’m getting the most use out of. #1 is a soft warm pink, #2 is a beautiful swirly peach, #3 is a glowy light creamy peach, while #4 is a stunning glowy rose. These all feel like they are baked powders so they aren’t particular soft when you touch them with your fingers but they apply beautifully with any brush I’ve used.

Now comes the variety since I like to mix and match all the shades in the palette. I like to layer these and as I’m typing this out I’m wearing number 1 and 7 as my cheek color.

Top row swatches 1, 3, 5, 7 Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar 2

#5 is a simply amazing gold that makes a fabulous highlighter. Plus I wear this on my eyes. This is very soft and it doesn’t take a lot to get a glowy yellow gold that is so striking. #6 is the only one that has any glitter to it and even then the glitter isn’t overwhelming. #6 is the one that gives this palette its Rose Gold name. It’s not subtle on me but it is gorgeous.

#7 is so soft to the touch, I find it to be mauve on me but I think different skin tones will pick this up differently. I consider this a bronzer but that’s because I don’t wear brown bronzers. #8 is the brownest shade in the palette but it’s such a light shade on me that it’s perfect.

There is so much diversity in this palette that it will keep you blushing and glowing through fall and beyond. The best part is that it’s $10 – that’s it – just $10 for 8 colors!

Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold Ultra Blush Palette and Chauffeur lipstick

Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold Ultra Blush Palette and Chauffeur lipstick

We can’t stop with just blush when we know that there are 5 lipsticks in this Rose Gold collection. 5 for the price of $5 each. 5 creamy, smooth, pigmented, non-fragranced lipsticks! I have Chauffeur which is ideal for my taste and there’s also Red Carpet (red), Private Members Club (black), Diamond Life (chocolate), and Girl’s Best Friend (bright pink).

Makeup Revolution Chauffeur Lipstick

Makeup Revolution Chauffeur Lipstick

Chauffeur is a rose nude I can wrap my head around – actually wrap my lips around. It’s not deathly pale but it’s light. I look like I’m wearing lipstick when it’s on. If I want to deepen it then I’ll use a lipliner all over which also assists the lipstick in lasting for a longer time. The packaging of the Rose Gold collection is contemporary and rich looking. No one would expect this to be as well priced as it is.

Shiny and glowy Makeup Wars

Makeup Wars time. It’s been a while since I shared my thoughts on MW and this time I’m only sharing half of the subject: bronzers and glowy items. I’m a glowy person (at times) and rarely bronze. Pale is okay around here though every once in a while a bronzer sneaks in the back door. Onto my most used “glows” lately.makeup wars glowy open

PAT McGRATH LABS, SKIN FETISH 003 NUDE

Don’t hate me because this is beautiful and s.o.l.d. out. It didn’t take long to sell out and when I reviewed it I warned you. At first I wasn’t sure if I’d made a mistake buying this or not but the powder is so pretty and so hard to resist. It also comes with a buffing brush (I don’t use it though) and a Shiny Stick highlighter and balm duo. This is here to remind us all, don’t underestimate Pat McGrath and don’t wait.

URBAN DECAY AFTERGLOW POWDER HIGHLIGHTER in AURA

With pink being my favorite color, when Urban Decay came out with the beautiful Afterglow Highlighters, I had to buy Aura. It’s pink perfection without being over the top. Aura is a light pink iridescent powder that gives me a radiant look. It’s subtle unless I build it up but I prefer using it as an all over glow applied lightly with a stippling brush or as a cheek highlighter over my blush. I like it on my browbone too so it’s getting more use than just as a highlighter. These are only $26 and not limited edition but that doesn’t mean that it’ll be around forever.

TOM FORD SKIN ILLUMINATING DUO in MOODLIGHT

The name of this duo is confusing at best. On Nordstrom’s website they call it Moonlight and I think I might have too when I first wrote about it. Even though Moodlight is $80, in the long run it’s saved me money. I often crave beautiful products that I don’t use often enough. This gorgeous powder duo reminds me I don’t need more. Described as “a soft white shade is like the luminous glow of daylight and a radiant golden shade is like the romantic illusion of candlelight. These lightly shimmering shades can be applied individually or layered together to create a multidimensional glow” Moodlight gives me the golden tones I want especially with complimentary eyeshadows.

IT COSMETICS BYE BYE UNDER EYE in ILLUMINATION

This might seem like an odd fit here and in a way it is. I’m a big fan of Bye Bye Eye and when I received this in Illumination (in Light) I wasn’t sure about it. I don’t really want anything shiny under my eyes. But this became a surprise favorite once I saw how much brighter my under eye area looked. I use it sparingly, unlike my swatch, after foundation is on. It contains Drops of Light Technology™ for added radiance and a lit-from-within glow. As with all IT Cosmetics facial products it has anti-aging ingredients. To top it off, it’s waterproof which certainly helps on these 90 degree days.

SENNA BRILLIANT BRONZE BAKED MINERAL BRONZER & HIGHLIGHTER in DAWN

A bronzer isn’t on my face very often but every once in a while that paleness can get to me and I want to fit in with the crowd that worships bronzers. One of my favorites is by Senna which you just don’t hear enough about. Brilliant Bronze is available in three combinations: Dawn (light bronze & seashell pink highlighter), Sunset (deep bronze & golden highlighter), and Gold Star (sparkling yellow gold & champagne highlighter). It is a shimmery option which makes it bronze AND glowy. It’s a combination of warmth and illumination. I love the description that Senna gives: “This delicate mineral veil contains specially cultivated fresh water pearls with amino acids and proteins to hydrate and nourish skin, keeping it luxuriously soft and smooth.

While I have many more highlighters and even bronzers, these are the ones I wear these days. What about you? What are your favorites? —  Marcia

Sleek MakeUP makes summer shine even better with Precious Metals Highlighting Palette

Sleek Highlighting Palette in Precious Metals

Sleek Highlighting Palette in Precious Metals

Sleek MakeUP first came to my attention on Makeup Alley. The ladies there were going nuts over the amazing colors of their palettes and the even more amazing prices for this highly pigmented line. I ordered eyeshadows because I had to see what the fuss was about and I didn’t regret that one bit even though it was more expensive to get in the US. Happily now Sleek has made it easy to purchase their products on their website without the high prices and shipping.

Sleek MakeUP sent us a package of some of their newest products which Lisa and I have drooled over. She recently reviewed their VIP Lipsticks which are a semi-matte. I need to remind her that she promised me Private Booth. I took the Precious Metals Highlighting Palette and Eyebrow Stylist and I’m not promising them to her, I want them all to myself.

Sleek Precious Metals Highlighting Palette with names

Sleek Precious Metals Highlighting Palette with names

Sleek MakeUP Precous Metals Highlighting Palette is one of three Highlighting Palettes that they’ve created ($14.99) and it’s all I could ask for, especially with summer finally here. This is a high shine palette that contains 3 cream pans and one powder one. Some are more shimmery than others but all have a radiance that I love.

Sleek Precious Metals Highlighting Palette

Sleek Precious Metals Highlighting Palette

The four shades (clockwise from upper left) are Platinum, Royal Gold, Antique Bronze (powder), and Renaissance Gold. These are such versatile highlighters and I’ve found you can wear them anywhere on your face and also on your body. I L.O.V.E. them on my eyes. I’ve been a fan of cream eyeshadows for years and the Precious Metals palette is perfect for me. I start with an eyeshadow primer, apply the cream shades with my finger and usually put a powder eyeshadow in the crease or sometimes Antique Bronze there. It lasts the entire day without creasing or fading.

Precious Metals: Platinum, Royal Gold

Precious Metals: Platinum, Royal Gold

Platinum is meant to lift your browbone with its creamy white with a light pink undertone. Royal Gold is a bright yet light gold that is beautiful on my lid. Sleek suggests using Royal Gold down the bridge of your nose as a highlighter.

Sleek Precious Metals: Renaissance Gold and Antique Bronze

Sleek Precious Metals: Renaissance Gold and Antique Bronze

Renaissance Gold is less sparkly so I’ve used it a lot on my eyes. Sleek’s suggestion of applying Renaissance Gold on your cupid’s bow to make your lips more prominent is a winner! It’s a wonderful shade for that especially since it’s more natural while still being metallic. Antique Bronze works wonderfully as a bronzer and a highlighter. It’s also a great eyeshadow shade.

Sleek: Platinum, Royal Gold, Renaissance Gold, Antique Bronze

Sleek Precious Metals Highlighting Palette is not only a bargain to me with its 4 shades that enhance and glow but it’s one that’s going to make my summer more beautiful.

Sleek Eyebrow Stylist

Sleek Eyebrow Stylist

I was happy when I found Sleek Eyebrow Stylist in the package. My eyebrows went from nicely shaped and filled in naturally to scraggly monsters that are thin. I desperately need eyebrow products these days and this Eyebrow Stylist is great for me. This automatic pencil comes in three shades: light, medium, and dark. I was sent Dark which is a great shade for my brunette brows.

Sleek Eyebrow Stylist in Dark

Sleek Eyebrow Stylist in Dark

One end contains a flat tip so that you can create a light outline and then with the pointed angled edge fill in your brows. It’s easy to use feather strokes to create an illusion of hair. What I like is that I can heavily fill in the sparseness at the front of my brows and then flip it to use lighter strokes for the rest. This really fills in well and it’s not a waxy feeling.

Sleek Eyebrow Stylist

Sleek Eyebrow Stylist

The spoolie isn’t unusual but it does a great job of grooming your brows so it gets an A from me!

Sleek Eyebrow Stylist in Dark

Sleek Eyebrow Stylist in Dark

This is not the best shot of my brows because they needed some plucking but you can see how well this fills in and looks natural. You can easily layer this or apply a darker line if you need more coverage. At $8.99 this is one of the better buys I’ve found in eyebrow pencils.

Two great finds from SLEEK MAKEUP. We no longer have to worry about the difficulty and expense of buying Sleek since they’ve made it so easy. —  Marcia
