Pixi Beauty beauties

Any time a box of Pixi by Petra products arrive on my doorstep I know I’m in for a lot of delight. I always look forward to the perfect #PixiGlow with products that will exfoliate, hydrate, and then add a touch of color. Whether the products are old favorites like Pixi Glow Tonic or new ones like Rose Oil Blend and Nourishing Cleansing Balm, there’s always something to add to my routine and this time I am delighted about that.                            samples

The skincare product that Pixi is famous for is GLOW TONIC ($15 for 3.4 fl oz). This is part of their Skintreats line and has become a cult favorite. It’s an exfoliating toner that contains 5% Glycolic Acid, Aloe Vera & Ginseng. Good for all skin types it helps exfoliate for a brighter and more radiant complexion.

ROSE OIL BLEND is a new to me product. Even if you haven’t indulged in the world of facial oils you will appreciate this one from PIXI SKINTREATS. It has a true rose fragrance and doesn’t smell artificial. The dropper allows you to get the amount you want without compromising the oil. The iconic pixi pink and green bottle is opaque keeping the ingredients safely preserved. I find this to be a little thicker than others so it’s something I’d only use at night. It works great over Glow Tonic giving you the nourishment your skin craves.

You can see from this list of ingredients (Sweet almond, rosehip, jojoba, pomegranate seed, and rose geranium oils ) how this will nourish your skin and help with both elasticity and glow.

PIXI SKINTREATS NOURISHING CLEANSING BALM is a treat for me. I am a lazy soul and don’t usually start my night routine until about 11 p.m. I love the ease of a cleansing balm since I don’t even have to stand to use it. Apply the Nourishing Cleansing Balm on dry skin and you’ll find that the balm magically changes from solid to an oil cleanser. I love massaging my face with this and then using a cleansing wipe or Micellar Water to remove. It leaves my skin freshly cleansed and doesn’t strip my skin of needed moisture. ” It deep cleanses as it nourishes with added sweet almond oil, shea butter, and vitamin E.”

PIXI BY PETRA LIPLIFT MAX ($14) is a product you need to have in your arsenal. I love this glossy lip plumper. While mine is Petal Ice it’s transparent once on your lips. This is a “peptide-infused lip plumper that nourishes as it enhances”. This minty gloss definitely tingles so be aware of that. I can see my lips looking fuller after I apply it. I often wear this alone because I love it that much but it’s fabulous over any lipstick you choose. It gives you shine and plumping without changing the color of your lip product. It not only contains peptides that hydrate and plum but there’s aloe for healing, jojoba for moisturizing and chamomile for soothing. It’s also available in two shades: Honey Sheen and Sheer Rose.

One more and I’m most excited about this. BEAUTY BLUSH DUO + KABUKI ($18). This fabulous set is available in two shades: Peach Honey and Rose Gold. The blush duo has two sides. Mine is Peach Honey which is a peachy nude sheen and gold-beige highlight. (Rose Gold is sheer pink sheen, white gold highlight). Plus it’s packaged with a great little kabuki brush that applies these colors sheerly and make them easy to blend. This is a look in a minute and a package that would be awesome as a stocking stuffer.

Makeup Revolution The One Stick

makeup-revolution-one-sticks

Makeup Revolution The One Sticks are the newest revolution in town. These will add a vibrancy to your face that you won’t believe. Let’s see what $9 can get you from Ulta!

Makeup Revolution The One Stick

Makeup Revolution The One Stick

There are 4 different The One Sticks so picking out just one is going to be a challenge. Makeup Revolution thought of everything with these sticks. First is Contour and Perfect with its counterpart Highlight and Perfect. The two Blush Sticks are both matte shades that can be used on cheeks or lips: Matte Rush (coral) and Matte Malibu (tan). With all 4 of these ONE Sticks directions say to use them dry for Hi Intensity and wet for Smooth Sheer Finish. I don’t find them efficient wet. I can’t blend them properly if I try so all my comments are about using these dry.

Makeup Revolution The ONE Stick x4

Makeup Revolution The ONE Stick x4

THE ONE SCULPT CONTOUR STICK is meant to Contour and Perfect. This stick is a matte contour that goes on intensely when applied straight from the tube. On someone super fair (aka me) I dab it on and then blend with my fingers or a beauty sponge. The color appears to be a very dark brown without any orange tint to it. But once blended it is lighter and workable. For contouring purposes apply this down the sides of your nose and blend, then under the cheekbones or jawbone and blend. A contour brush is also a great tool for this particular stick.

THE ONE HIGHLIGHT CONTOUR STICK is made to highlight and perfect. This stick is the only one of the four that isn’t matte. It has some sparkle to it giving it the ability to illuminate what you want illuminated. It’s very creamy, much more so than the other sticks. When you see my pictures I hope you won’t gasp. I dropped mine and made a big mess trying to put it together. I still use it but it’s not a pretty sight.

Makeup Revolution the ONE Highlight Contour Stick

THE ONE BLUSH STICK in MATTE RUSH is a beautiful bright coral. I almost fell over the first time I used it because of the intensity of the color. But it is too pretty to ignore and I think it’s very flattering once blended properly. Some people may find that they need several strokes but if you are fair this covers beautifully in ONE. The key with these all is to blend, blend, blend. To wear as a lip product apply with a lip brush or your finger since the wideness of the top isn’t quite lip shape.

THE ONE BLUSH STICK in MATTE MALIBU is the warm tan companion. I have a lot of cream blushes but nothing in this shade. While it’s not one I’ll use often, it does come in handy for me. I think a darker skintone than mine would love using this.

Now you’ll see what I mean about intensity. The following is one swipe but done heavily.

I’ve found so much from Makeup Revolution to buy. The brand is affordable and Ulta often has it on special – right now it’s BOGO 1/2 for the entire line so you could get 2 of these for just $13.50 or one and something else from them. If you are always complaining that cream products get eaten by your skin then The ONE Stick in any of the iterations are the ones for you to try. They glide on easily, blend wonderfully, and are creamy as can be. Which color would you pick?  —  Marcia

A plethora of picks from Pixi Beauty!

A plethora of picks from Pixi Beauty! No question, one of my most favorite drug store cosmetics lines is Pixi Beauty. The packaging is awesome, the color products are great, and the price is right!  Today I have four Pixi picks that go from eyes to cheeks to lips to face.                                                                                              samples

Pixi Beauty Lash Line Ink in Black Silk and Tinted Brilliance Balm in Baby Bare

Pixi Beauty Lash Line Ink in Black Silk and Tinted Brilliance Balm in Baby Bare

Let’s start with the eyes. I am really digging ink liners these days. I recently went on a trip to Spain and I took two eyeliners – a pencil liner and my Pixi Beauty Lash Line Ink in Black Silk ($14).  I love how this deep black liner is so easy to apply – the tip is longer than most ink liners which makes it easier to maneuver. The ink liner stays in place, even through my 13 hours in airports and on planes.  And creating a thin line or a thick line is a snap. Interestingly, this liquid liner is much more ‘wet’ than most I’ve tried, which are more of a stain. Initially, it looks shiny, almost like a black patent leather which is definitely unique. The patent leather effect lasts a few hours, after which it flattens and becomes a stain. Love this liner!

On to lips — Marcia has raved about the Pixi Beauty Tinted Brilliance Balm ($14) forever. Seriously, I think she’s written about ten posts featuring this lip crayon. Baby Bare is my first Tinted Brilliance Balm and I am as big a fan as Marcia is. It’s wonderfully moisturizing, easy to apply, and the peachy-nude shade is a universally flattering color. If for some insane reason it’s not your cuppa tea, no worries because Pixi has 10 more shades available. The slip is just perfect and I love this lippie…I think it’s tied with the Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balms for my favorite Pixi lip products.

Pixi Beauty gets cheeky with the Beauty Blush Duo + Kabuki ($18). How cute is this?? My shade is Peach Honey, and it also comes in Rose Gold. Peach Honey has a peachy nude sheen and a gold beige highlight. It’s more of a highlighter than a blush unless you are super fair. The powder is silky and soft and blends well. It gives a great glow and it’s also a pretty eyeshadow in a pinch.

The kabuki is a tad soft for my taste – I like a kabuki that is firm, but this one is a nice size and works well as a brush to carry in your purse.

Pixi Beauty Makeup Fixing Mist

Pixi Beauty Makeup Fixing Mist

Pixi’s answer to keeping your look from melting in the summer heat is the Makeup Fixing Mist ($15). It’s rose water with green tea that is sprayed on to help keep makeup in place. I have to say, this isn’t for me. The spray is very wet – too wet for my somewhat oily skin. It’s also pretty fragranced.  If you have super dry skin and fragrance isn’t an issue, you might like this – but I think there are better fixing mists out there. The Makeup Fixing Mist seems more like a refreshing moisturizing spray than a setting spray.

I got Tyra mail! Tyra Beauty Light in a Stick and GET LIPPY Lip Color + Lip Liner Set

Tyra Beauty Tyra Beauty impressed me with the B.I.G. Lash Extension System that I reviewed HERE. Today I am happy to tell you about a few Tyra Beauty products that will set off those gorgeous lashes – Light in a Stick Highlighter ($25) and the Get Lippy Set ($38).                                 samples

Tyra Beauty Light in a StickLight In A Stick is a creamy highlighter that is applied right from the stick. There are two shades available: SINsational City, a pearlescent champagne, and Glow With The Flow, a golden bronze radiance. I tested Glow With the Flow.

Tyra Beauty Glow With the Flow Light in a Stick

Tyra Beauty Glow With the Flow Light in a Stick

What a pretty highlighter! I like the stick and the shape of the rounded end, although I am certain that it will eventually become flat. It goes on super smooth thanks to the ‘TY-Glide Technology’. What is that, you ask?

TY-Glide Technology features a polymeric structure, which releases a uniform ratio of micronized pigments infused with fine oils, which provide a luxurious glide onto the skin, leaving the perfect amount of blendable color and the appearance of a flawless face.

Tyra Beauty Glow With the Flow swatch

Tyra Beauty Glow With the Flow swatch

At first, Glow With the Flow looks pretty intense, but it sheers out into a nice glow. I like to use this on my cheekbones and straight down the bridge of my nose, along with darker shading on the sides of my bridge. This is also beautiful on top of lipstick, especially the shades I got in my Get Lippy Set.

Tyra Beauty Get Lippy SetThe Get Lippy Set ($38) includes a coordinating mechanical lip liner, MakeOUT Line, and a Smooch as Silk Lipstick. MakeOUT Line keeps lip color from feathering and is waterproof. The Smooch As Silk lip color has a satin finish, and it is definitely long wearing. Once blotted, it doesn’t transfer and feels very comfortable on.

The color combos available include Hi, Felicia + Hey Girl, HEY, a vivid pink duo; This Ain’t Palm Beach + Plastic Flamingos, a pink coral duo; Retire Your Husband + LOMO, a smoky mauve duo; and Tyra’s Favorite Red + Runway Red, a true red duo.

Hmmm…maybe it’s my particular skin chemistry, but Runway Red and Tyra’s Favorite Red aren’t very red on me. They are more of a deep reddish pink. Regardless, I love the color, especially with the Light in a Stick in Glow With the Flow layered on the center of my lips.

My feeble attempt to smize.

I am impressed with all of my Tyra Beauty products…Tyra knows her makeup and has done an excellent job of creating high quality, beautiful products. If you haven’t tried this line yet I think it’s about time you did – you will be thrilled with your Tyra mail!  – Lisa

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Hydrating Primer Mist and Illuminate Strobing Mix-in Drops

Hard Candy 2016 Spring Summer CollectionNext time you are at Walmart, take a look at the Hard Candy Spring/Summer 2016 collection. Hard Candy has some terrific products that are definitely affordable. I recently tested two things from the latest collection: Sheer Envy Hydrating Primer Mist ($8) and Look Pro! Illuminate & Strobing Mix-in Drops ($8).
pr samples

Sheer Envy Hydrating Primer Mist

The Sheer Envy Hydrating Primer Mist is billed as a moisturizing spray, primer, and setting spray. The ingredient list includes coconut water, which is very good for skin.

I think this is too wet to be a setting spray. It works as a primer, although you will want to give yourself some dry-down time. I typically spray it on after moisturizing but before drying my hair. By the time I’ve dried my hair, the primer has settled down to a slightly sticky state that is fine for makeup application. It’s definitely hydrating, and I love the coconut water infusion. If you have dry skin, this is a primer to consider. However, I think it’s best as a general moisturizing spray, which would be handy at the beach or whenever your skin is feeling extra parched.

Hard Candy Look Pro! Illuminate & Strobing Mix-in Drops

The Hard Candy Look Pro! Illuminate & Strobing Mix-in Drops is a sheer white opalescent liquid that gives a luminescence…not strong enough to be anything near ‘strobing’.

Hard Candy Look Pro! Illuminate & Strobing Mix-in Drops

Hard Candy Look Pro! Illuminate & Strobing Mix-in Drops

Hard Candy Look Pro! Illuminate & Strobing Mix-in Drops

I find that the Illuminate & Strobing Mix-in Drops get lost in foundation, but used alone it gives a very pretty glow that looks natural. It’s a great option for those no-makeup days in summer when you just want a little boost for your skin.

Hard Candy Soft Touch Cosmetics Bag

Both products are affordable and are good for your low maintenance days. There are some really cute makeup bags available too – I recommend the Soft Touch Cosmetics Bag ($6) in ‘Little Hottie’, a hot pink number with a zippered expandable base where you can store your brushes. You can find Hard Candy at Walmart, both in store and online.  – Lisa

Let’s start a Makeup Revolution – we can begin with Shimmer Brick Radiant

Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick Radiant

Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick Radiant

Remember when the first shimmer brick became available? I do and I remember wanting it badly but I never did buy it. It was too expensive and it was too shimmery for me. I tested it so many times yet walked away looking like a glitter ball. Sadness prevailed. When Makeup Revolution sent their Shimmer Brick Radiant I was afraid, very afraid!! I thought it was just beautiful but all I could remember is the glitter ball. But I’m a champ and giving this a go was the only way to find out my results.

Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick Radiant (overhead light)

Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick Radiant (overhead light)

The results are positive. This $7 palette (exclusive to Ulta) is everything I was hoping for years ago. There’s a glow to it but there’s surprisingly no glitter. I was truly amazed by that fact. There are 5 shades in it that blend together beautifully to give me a golden peach glow. It’s not a palette I can wear on an everyday basis but nothing with this much gleam ever is.

Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick Radiant

Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick Radiant

Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick Radiant individual swatches

Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick Radiant individual swatches

There are two Makeup Revolution Vivid Shimmer Bricks, Radiant and Rose Gold. Rose Gold would be better for darker skin tones than mine.

The best way I’ve found to use this is to take a large fluffy brush and highlight my cheeks. I can then use a smaller brush to bring attention to certain areas. The lighter shades work for me along my upper cheekbones.

Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick Radiant blended

Makeup Revolution Shimmer Brick Radiant blended

The individual shades can be used as eyeshadows but I’d only do that in a pinch. A good eyeshadow primer is needed to make the shades adhere better since these are powdery. When I tried it I made sure that I tapped off excess in my sink so I wouldn’t have massive fallout. The colors are beautiful on.

Here’s some hints from Makeup Revolution on how to create a glowing, radiant skin:

“For glowing, radiant skin:

  • Select a powder blush that contains a slight shimmer.
  • Start by applying the blush to the apples of your cheeks. Then slightly extend under the cheek bones.
  • Lightly dust Makeup Revolution USA’s Vivid Shimmer Brick in Radiant on the top of your cheekbones; the light will naturally reflect off of it.
  • You can opt to mix all of the tones together for a multidimensional glow or you can pick and choose one by one for the desired effect.
  • Besides the cheekbones, you can add shimmer down the nose, between your eyebrows, or on your temples and chin.
  • For the eyes, sweep product on the lids and around the corners. For an enhanced eye, add the lighter tones under the brow bone.”

If you are as fascinated by highlighters as I am, Makeup Revolution needs to be #1 on your list. For $7 you can look and feel radiant.

The bad and the beautiful of Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003

The hottest product available right now seems to be the Pat McGrath Lab Skin Fetish 003. This is a limited edition set that was once sold on her own site but it sold out in a flash. Sephora is the carrier of this right now and I’m quite sure that despite it’s $72 price that it will be sold out soon again. There are definitely reasons to buy this and other reasons to skip it.

The cosmetics themselves are beautiful and unique as seen in these photos from Allure.com

Pat McGrath Lab Skin Fetish 003 in Nude

Pat McGrath Lab Skin Fetish 003 in Nude

Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003 in Golden

Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003 in Golden

If highlighting and strobing items make your day then these will definitely be for you. I love the name Skin Fetish since that’s what we’re all about when we buy products like this. The two available shades are Nude and Golden. I bought this in Nude because of the beautiful pink in the photo. When it arrives what you’ll actually see is the compact is white but as you use it or turn it the iridescent pink appears.

The highlighting stick is almost the same in both sets with Nude being a light gold and Golden appearing darker and more golden. The brush is the same blush.

Let me start with the “bad” so I can get to the “beautiful”:

Bad 1:

Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003 packaging

Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003 packaging

The outer packaging is a throwaway. There’s nothing attractive or appealing about it although the sequins within would grab your eye.

Bad 2:

Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003 sequins galore

Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003 sequins galore

When I opened it, sequins went everywhere. I corralled most of them but I found two in my shower today and that isn’t even near where I opened the package. My advice: have a garbage can or a big plastic bag nearby to hold them.

Bad 3:

Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003 brush

Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003 brush

The packaging is flimsy and isn’t the quality you’d expect for this amount of money. The highlighter/balm stick is lightweight and doesn’t feel sturdy. The compact with the pigment is plain as plain can be and feels more drugstore than Sephora. The brush is decent but I don’t really think it adds much to the products. Most people who covet cosmetics like this have oodles of better brushes.

Bad 4: $72 — enough said.

But there’s also the Beautiful so now you have to weigh the bad against them!

Beautiful 1:

Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003 Pigment

Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003 Pigment for Nude

The pigment raises this to a new level. I have more cosmetics than you can imagine but I own nothing like this. It has a a subtle iridescence that you can build up. This is luminous without a touch of glitter which makes it even better. The buffer brush is used to buff this in for different levels of shine. I prefer a softer kabuki brush though personally.

Beautiful 2:

Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003 Highlighter Side

Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003 Nude Highlighter Side

The highlighter side of the dual-ended Shiny Stick™ is a softly mottled gold with a luminous finish. The balm side is exactly that: a balm like finish that creates a dewy look to your cheeks but doesn’t add any color. The balm is called a “beautifying balm” and is meant to amplify the color of the Shiny Stick.

Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003 Nude

Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003 Nude

As you can see I’m torn about this. I love the pigment though and would buy the one from the Golden set in the blink of an eye. But I’d have to buy the entire set which I don’t need. I’d be thrilled if Pat McGrath Skin Labs had just the pigments for sale.

Ways to use this according to Pat McGrath Skin Labs:

Accentuate by swiping the balm alone on the high points of your skin. This will give you a glow that isn’t colorful. You can then flip to stick to use the highlighter only to amplify your bone structure.

Amplify: To take it to the next level apply the highlighter and follow with the balm that you’ve pressed on top with your fingers.

Transcend:  Go all the way. Buff the pigment over the Shiny Stick duo for an aliengelic gleam of otherworldly opulence. (yes, they use the word aliengelic, it’s not a typo)

Lavish light anywhere on the face and body. Add sumptuous sheen to eyelids and lips. Brighten brow bones, corners of eyes. Dramatize décolletage. Glorify shoulders.

Pat McGrath Skin Fetish pigment (nude)

Pat McGrath Skin Fetish pigment (nude)

While I couldn’t get a picture of the angelic radiance it’s definitely there and that’s what makes this worth the money for me. I can use the pigment powder with or without the Shiny Stick™ and it’s wonderous.
