Mamma Mia! Maya Chia!

maya chia logoCan oil shimmer?  Maya Chia Highlight of the Day illuminating serum can.

Maya Chia is a relatively young beauty brand which presents itself as a non-toxic beauty line. The Maya Chia product line is created by Susanne Norwitz, who has a lifelong interest in the Maya people through her doctor father. The brand uses a proprietary process to extract the chia oil, called supercritical extraction. It results in a completely pure oil, which is free from any chemical residues and impurities.

Chia Seed plant

In keeping with making healthy choices for skin care and make up, I decided to try both of these serums (Happy Hour and Golden Hour) as I particularly love this brand.

Maya Chia Illuminating Serum

Maya Chia Illuminating Serum

Drop a small amount from the pipette onto your fingers and rub them together to obtain the optimum consistency. You can blend it into your moisturizer or foundation for an all over sheen or apply it as you would any highlighter onto the high points of your face.

The Maya Chia website says: The pearlized mineral sheen is suspended in an ultra lightweight, easily absorbed infusion of the world’s most nutrient-rich botanicals. It is makeup that is a treat for the health of your skin and what we hope will be a highlight to your day.

The highlight of the day is available in two shades:

the happy hour — imparts a cool-toned pink radiance – as if you are radiating with joy.

Maya Chia Happy Hour Serum

Maya Chia Happy Hour Serum

the golden hour — imparts a warm, golden, champagne-like radiance – as if you are lit by candlelight.

Maya Chia The Happy Hour

Maya Chia The Happy Hour

The color descriptions are right on the money. I’ve even combined the two for a pink champagne tone. You can layer for more intensity if you prefer although one layer works well enough for me.

I can’t find good swatches of them online nor do they show up well on camera. There are several good YouTube videos that show them in action and you can get an idea of how they look on the skin by accessing them. Here’s my favorite one.

I spent $42 on each of the serums and if you have some texture (polite way of saying wrinkles and pores) these do not emphasize them as some highlighters do. You have to shake the bottle well and then dispense a small amount from the pipette into your hand. They work equally well on bare, moisturized or made up skin. You can apply it over blush also. The only gripe I have is a minor one- the name of the product is only on the box, not the bottle.

Maya Chia Illuminating Serums (alluremagazine)

Maya Chia Illuminating Serums (alluremagazine)

If you’re curious about the ingredients, here they are from the Maya Chia website: The Highlight of the Day uses the highest quality natural, organic and wildcrafted ingredients from conscious growers from around the world. Our highlighting serum is never formulated with parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, PEGs, and SLSs

Ingredients: Supercritical Chia (Salvia hispanica) Seed Oil, Brassica Oleracea (Broccoli) Seed Oil, Capriylic/ Capric Triglyceride, *Calendula Officinalis (Calendula) Flower Extract, *Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Oil, Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Mica, Iron Oxide, Titanium Oxide,  *2% Essential Oils

*Organic Ingredients or Wildcrafted (when available)

There is a charitable aspect to Maya Chia which makes this brand even more favorable to me. “The little chia seed has been revered by the Maya people of Central America – and for good reason. Packed with the highest concentration of essential antioxidant of any botanical source, the chia seed is also rich in Omegas, vitamins and minerals.

At Maya Chia, we want to give back to the Maya people of Central and South American who gave so much to us for thousands of years. A percentage of our net profits will be donated to helping the Maya people of Central and South America.”

Oil see you in my next post.  —  Phyllis

Also available at Integrity Botanicals which occasionally has this in their samples w/purchase.

Pixi Hello Roses

Pixi Hello Roses

Pixi Beauty has delightfully come out with two new sets to keep us Pixiholics happy. I was sent Hello Roses!, the pink set for those of us who love cool tones, and there’s also Hello Glow! in case you prefer peach shades. I promise you can’t go wrong.

Glow Booster in PeachGold, Beauty Blush Duo in Peach Honey, and LipLift Max in Honey Sheen

Inside the box you’ll find three products that help complete a beautiful look. A blush duo, glow booster, and LipLift Max for just $22.

Pixi Beauty Blush Duo in Rose Gold

Pixi Beauty Blush Duo in Rose Gold

Pixi Beauty Blush Duo in Rose Gold brought out the first big smile upon unboxing this. Two silky blushes that apply like silk. Blush and highlight together cuts down on clutter. These shades are very subtle though you can build them up. My swatches are barely seen in the picture but the duo looks lovely when on my face. No shimmer is allowed even on the highlighter side. Instead it reflects light creating a subtle glow.

(The blush duo is available separately for $18 and includes a brush.)

Pixi Glow Booster in Pink Pearl

Pixi Glow Booster in Pink Pearl

What isn’t available anywhere except in this kit is the Glow Booster. This beautiful PinkPearl cream adds a delightful radiance that is particularly flattering on my cool toned skin. It can be applied under your makeup, mixed in with foundation, or applied just where you want to bring some attention. I l.o.v.e. that it’s not fragranced and I love the subtle iridescence of it. My favorite ways to use this is either right on my cheeks prior to apply blush or just above my cheekbones to bring just a touch of gleam.

Pixi Glow Booster in Pink Pearl bottom, Sheer Rose Liplift Max top

Last is Pixi’s LipLift Max ($14 separately) in Sheer Rose. LipLift Max is available in three shades and I’m always using the clear Petal Ice. Now I have Sheer Rose to add color to my lips alone or over lipstick.

LipLift Max in Sheer Rose

LipLift Max in Sheer Rose

Volume-maximizing lip treatment with a cooling sensation and glossy finish. Peptides hydrate, firm and plump. Added aloe heals, jojoba moisturizes and chamomile soothes. Fresh mint flavor.

Sheer Rose has a brown undertone to it and works perfectly with the blush duo and glow booster.

I notice a little tingle when I first apply this but nothing that bothers me. The tingle brings me some plumping which I’m always up for!

Like all Pixi products these are cruelty free and reasonably priced. Pixi doesn’t bombard us with new items so it’s very exciting when they do bring out some of the beauty line. I’m always enticed by Pixi and love that I can order it online at their website, target.com or go to a Target store to find something special.  —  Marcia

Beauty Junkees 2017 – amazing additions

Beauty Junkees new additions

Beauty Junkees new additions

It’s always exciting when a brand that you’ve had great success brings out new products in their line but it’s especially a thrill when it’s Beauty Junkees. We have watched them grow exponentially and we are so happy that they are keeping us in the loop by sending along new products. For 2017 Beauty Junkees has recently expanded their line with 5 items that you don’t want to miss. Beauty Junkees is a paraben free, cruelty free line with most products made in the US. Let me share what I’ve been enjoying. (Read on for a discount code too.)

MAGNETIC MAKEUP PALETTE w/MIRROR ($19.97)

Beauty Junkees Magnetic Palette

Beauty Junkees Magnetic Palette

This large, deep magnetic palette is wonderful for all the pans you have. Brands like MAC, Makeup Geek, Ofra, Trish McAvoy, and many independent brands sell shadows, blushes, bronzers and more in pan form to both save you money and space. Beauty Junkee’s version has a full mirror, closes tightly and contains a great Beauty Junkee two sided eyeshadow brush. It’s actually their pro Tapered Blender and pro All Over Shader Brush combined into 1 fantastic brush.

Beauty Junkees Magnetic Palette

Beauty Junkees Magnetic Palette

The palette can hold 28 standard size shadows and accommodate different sizes and shapes (like domed shadows) with ease. It comes with a set of 10 magnetics for products that aren’t magnetized already. This has been so great for me since I bought more Makeup Geek pans along with some from Maskcara and Anastasia Beverly Hills. Now I can organize by color with ease.

TINTED BROW GEL ($12.97) The new tinted brow gel comes in 3 shades: Blonde, Dark Brown, and Auburn. It is so rare to find an auburn shade in brow products that Beauty Junkees needs kudos for that alone. The brow gel is great for all brow conditions. If you have full brows already it’s a way to add some color and groom them so they stay neat all day. If you have skimpy brows (ahem, like mine) then it gives you the ability to fill them in without any fake look. And if there are gray hairs popping up, and it does happen, you can easily cover them with this natural looking brow mascara.

CONCEALER and BROW HIGHLITER DUOS ($14.97) These duos are available in 2 shades: Cool Beige + Beige Highliter and Warm Beige + Gold Highliter. I have to admit that I love them both and I’m glad I didn’t have to make a choice.

Beauty Junkees Cool Beige Concealer Highliter Duo

Beauty Junkees Cool Beige Concealer Highliter Duo

The Cool Beige is a lighter and slightly cooler concealer while the highliter is a cool non-yellow gold. It’s very brightening and looks wonderful just under the arch of your brow, in the tearduct area to brighten, and even on the cupid’s bow of your lips. It’s surprisingly subtle which is great on older eyes.

Beauty Junkees Warm Beige Concealer Highliter Duo

Beauty Junkees Warm Beige Concealer Highliter Duo

The Warm Beige pencil is a darker and warmer concealer but it’s not too dark for my fair skin. I love the gold shade of the highliter end. I think it looks great along the lashline or even on the waterline (though it doesn’t last long there).

These pencils are so creamy and easy to work with.

LIP PUMICE STICK EXFOLIATOR ($10) is perfect for this winter especially. I find it has two purposes for me: preparing my lips to be their smoothest for lipsticks (especially matte lip color) and helping with chapped lips. This moisturizes your lips but be sure you wipe it off before applying any color on your lips since you don’t want the little bits to linger. It has a light minty smell to it that reminds me of candy canes.

FAB NAILS ($14.97) is the perfect alternative for those who don’t polish their nails or who don’t do it on a regular basis. In some professions you are told not to wear nail polish even but you want your nails perfectly groomed. That’s where Fab Nails comes into play.

This glass file that is extremely gentle on your nails. If you have peeling nails this will be a miracle for them. Fab Nails helps prevent peeling and chipping. Use it as a buffer in a back and forth direction to seal the keratin layers together. It doesn’t leave your nails thin like other files do. But it will help you smooth your nails. If you use this as a buffer you can go weeks and still have a shine. After using it’s best to wash it with water, dry it and store it in the protective case.

My husband has confiscated it which I don’t mind since his nails were looking pretty ratty prior to owning Fab Nails.

Now for the code so that you can pick out something fabulous that you are going to want. The code is INFOZONE and it’s good to use for one product through 2/28/17. Anything your heart desires from Beauty Junkees can be yours for 15% less. Picking something is going to be hard since I’m loving everything I have from Beauty Junkees. And you will too.  —  Marcia

Pixi Beauty beauties

Pixi Beauty beauties

Any time a box of Pixi by Petra products arrive on my doorstep I know I’m in for a lot of delight. I always look forward to the perfect #PixiGlow with products that will exfoliate, hydrate, and then add a touch of color. Whether the products are old favorites like Pixi Glow Tonic or new ones like Rose Oil Blend and Nourishing Cleansing Balm, there’s always something to add to my routine and this time I am delighted about that.                            samples

The skincare product that Pixi is famous for is GLOW TONIC ($15 for 3.4 fl oz). This is part of their Skintreats line and has become a cult favorite. It’s an exfoliating toner that contains 5% Glycolic Acid, Aloe Vera & Ginseng. Good for all skin types it helps exfoliate for a brighter and more radiant complexion.

Pixi Skintreats Glow Tonic

Pixi Skintreats Glow Tonic

ROSE OIL BLEND is a new to me product. Even if you haven’t indulged in the world of facial oils you will appreciate this one from PIXI SKINTREATS. It has a true rose fragrance and doesn’t smell artificial. The dropper allows you to get the amount you want without compromising the oil. The iconic pixi pink and green bottle is opaque keeping the ingredients safely preserved. I find this to be a little thicker than others so it’s something I’d only use at night. It works great over Glow Tonic giving you the nourishment your skin craves.

You can see from this list of ingredients (Sweet almond, rosehip, jojoba, pomegranate seed, and rose geranium oils ) how this will nourish your skin and help with both elasticity and glow.

PIXI SKINTREATS NOURISHING CLEANSING BALM is a treat for me. I am a lazy soul and don’t usually start my night routine until about 11 p.m. I love the ease of a cleansing balm since I don’t even have to stand to use it. Apply the Nourishing Cleansing Balm on dry skin and you’ll find that the balm magically changes from solid to an oil cleanser. I love massaging my face with this and then using a cleansing wipe or Micellar Water to remove. It leaves my skin freshly cleansed and doesn’t strip my skin of needed moisture. ” It deep cleanses as it nourishes with added sweet almond oil, shea butter, and vitamin E.”

PIXI BY PETRA LIPLIFT MAX ($14) is a product you need to have in your arsenal. I love this glossy lip plumper. While mine is Petal Ice it’s transparent once on your lips. This is a “peptide-infused lip plumper that nourishes as it enhances”. This minty gloss definitely tingles so be aware of that. I can see my lips looking fuller after I apply it. I often wear this alone because I love it that much but it’s fabulous over any lipstick you choose. It gives you shine and plumping without changing the color of your lip product. It not only contains peptides that hydrate and plum but there’s aloe for healing, jojoba for moisturizing and chamomile for soothing. It’s also available in two shades: Honey Sheen and Sheer Rose.

One more and I’m most excited about this. BEAUTY BLUSH DUO + KABUKI ($18). This fabulous set is available in two shades: Peach Honey and Rose Gold. The blush duo has two sides. Mine is Peach Honey which is a peachy nude sheen and gold-beige highlight. (Rose Gold is sheer pink sheen, white gold highlight). Plus it’s packaged with a great little kabuki brush that applies these colors sheerly and make them easy to blend. This is a look in a minute and a package that would be awesome as a stocking stuffer.

Makeup Revolution The One Stick

makeup-revolution-one-sticks

Makeup Revolution The One Sticks are the newest revolution in town. These will add a vibrancy to your face that you won’t believe. Let’s see what $9 can get you from Ulta!

*press samples

Makeup Revolution The One Stick

Makeup Revolution The One Stick

There are 4 different The One Sticks so picking out just one is going to be a challenge. Makeup Revolution thought of everything with these sticks. First is Contour and Perfect with its counterpart Highlight and Perfect. The two Blush Sticks are both matte shades that can be used on cheeks or lips: Matte Rush (coral) and Matte Malibu (tan). With all 4 of these ONE Sticks directions say to use them dry for Hi Intensity and wet for Smooth Sheer Finish. I don’t find them efficient wet. I can’t blend them properly if I try so all my comments are about using these dry.

Makeup Revolution The ONE Stick x4

Makeup Revolution The ONE Stick x4

THE ONE SCULPT CONTOUR STICK is meant to Contour and Perfect. This stick is a matte contour that goes on intensely when applied straight from the tube. On someone super fair (aka me) I dab it on and then blend with my fingers or a beauty sponge. The color appears to be a very dark brown without any orange tint to it. But once blended it is lighter and workable. For contouring purposes apply this down the sides of your nose and blend, then under the cheekbones or jawbone and blend. A contour brush is also a great tool for this particular stick.

Makeup Revolution The One Sculpt Contour Stick

Makeup Revolution The One Sculpt Contour Stick

Makeup Revolution swatches for Highlight and Contour blended

THE ONE HIGHLIGHT CONTOUR STICK is made to highlight and perfect. This stick is the only one of the four that isn’t matte. It has some sparkle to it giving it the ability to illuminate what you want illuminated. It’s very creamy, much more so than the other sticks. When you see my pictures I hope you won’t gasp. I dropped mine and made a big mess trying to put it together. I still use it but it’s not a pretty sight.

Makeup Revolution the ONE Highlight Contour Stick

THE ONE BLUSH STICK in MATTE RUSH is a beautiful bright coral. I almost fell over the first time I used it because of the intensity of the color. But it is too pretty to ignore and I think it’s very flattering once blended properly. Some people may find that they need several strokes but if you are fair this covers beautifully in ONE. The key with these all is to blend, blend, blend. To wear as a lip product apply with a lip brush or your finger since the wideness of the top isn’t quite lip shape.

THE ONE BLUSH STICK in MATTE MALIBU is the warm tan companion. I have a lot of cream blushes but nothing in this shade. While it’s not one I’ll use often, it does come in handy for me. I think a darker skintone than mine would love using this.

Now you’ll see what I mean about intensity. The following is one swipe but done heavily.

I’ve found so much from Makeup Revolution to buy. The brand is affordable and Ulta often has it on special – right now it’s BOGO 1/2 for the entire line so you could get 2 of these for just $13.50 or one and something else from them. If you are always complaining that cream products get eaten by your skin then The ONE Stick in any of the iterations are the ones for you to try. They glide on easily, blend wonderfully, and are creamy as can be. Which color would you pick?  —  Marcia

A plethora of picks from Pixi Beauty!

A plethora of picks from Pixi Beauty! No question, one of my most favorite drug store cosmetics lines is Pixi Beauty. The packaging is awesome, the color products are great, and the price is right!  Today I have four Pixi picks that go from eyes to cheeks to lips to face.                                                                                              samples

Pixi Beauty Lash Line Ink in Black Silk and Tinted Brilliance Balm in Baby Bare

Pixi Beauty Lash Line Ink in Black Silk and Tinted Brilliance Balm in Baby Bare

Let’s start with the eyes. I am really digging ink liners these days. I recently went on a trip to Spain and I took two eyeliners – a pencil liner and my Pixi Beauty Lash Line Ink in Black Silk ($14).  I love how this deep black liner is so easy to apply – the tip is longer than most ink liners which makes it easier to maneuver. The ink liner stays in place, even through my 13 hours in airports and on planes.  And creating a thin line or a thick line is a snap. Interestingly, this liquid liner is much more ‘wet’ than most I’ve tried, which are more of a stain. Initially, it looks shiny, almost like a black patent leather which is definitely unique. The patent leather effect lasts a few hours, after which it flattens and becomes a stain. Love this liner!

On to lips — Marcia has raved about the Pixi Beauty Tinted Brilliance Balm ($14) forever. Seriously, I think she’s written about ten posts featuring this lip crayon. Baby Bare is my first Tinted Brilliance Balm and I am as big a fan as Marcia is. It’s wonderfully moisturizing, easy to apply, and the peachy-nude shade is a universally flattering color. If for some insane reason it’s not your cuppa tea, no worries because Pixi has 10 more shades available. The slip is just perfect and I love this lippie…I think it’s tied with the Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balms for my favorite Pixi lip products.

Pixi Beauty gets cheeky with the Beauty Blush Duo + Kabuki ($18). How cute is this?? My shade is Peach Honey, and it also comes in Rose Gold. Peach Honey has a peachy nude sheen and a gold beige highlight. It’s more of a highlighter than a blush unless you are super fair. The powder is silky and soft and blends well. It gives a great glow and it’s also a pretty eyeshadow in a pinch.

The kabuki is a tad soft for my taste – I like a kabuki that is firm, but this one is a nice size and works well as a brush to carry in your purse.

Pixi Beauty Makeup Fixing Mist

Pixi Beauty Makeup Fixing Mist

Pixi’s answer to keeping your look from melting in the summer heat is the Makeup Fixing Mist ($15). It’s rose water with green tea that is sprayed on to help keep makeup in place. I have to say, this isn’t for me. The spray is very wet – too wet for my somewhat oily skin. It’s also pretty fragranced.  If you have super dry skin and fragrance isn’t an issue, you might like this – but I think there are better fixing mists out there. The Makeup Fixing Mist seems more like a refreshing moisturizing spray than a setting spray.

Pixi Beauty is available online at Pixibeauty.com as well as at Target stores. With such a plethora of pretty picks from Pixi, be sure you check them out next time you are shopping!  – Lisa
