It’s always interesting to me is to learn about the companies that I’m using and going to share with you. I’m not talking about the big department store brands that we are all familiar with but I am interested in the independent companies that have a story behind them.

White Sands Haircare

White Sands Hair Products were created by the Salas family with a small amount of money and one product. Once they were able to introduce their product at the Orlando Premiere Beauty Show, sell everything they brought, they began their journey from there. Their American dream had begun and now fine salons throughout the country know their story.

Lisa already reviewed the three White Sands products she received and now it’s time for me to take you back to the beginning of your shower time with White Sands Orchid Bliss Revitalizing Shampoo and Conditioner (as well as two others).

White Sands Orchid Bliss Revitalizing Shampoo and Revitalizing Conditioner

There are 3 different shampoo and conditioner lines created by White Sands and I was thrilled to receive Orchid Bliss. These two products are wonderful for hair like mine: color treated and needing frizz control. Orchid Bliss shampoo and conditioner use the anti-aging characteristics and mineral richness of the orchid flower. As someone who is averse to fragrance in products I was a little leery of what this would bring. All I can say is that it’s wonderful. The fragrance is minimal and actually one I only notice in the shower. After I dry my hair I don’t notice it all. What I do notice though is a shiny head of hair that is moisturized and soft, one that isn’t looking or feeling dried out, one that isn’t as affected by humidity.

Orchid Bliss Revitalizing Shampoo and Conditioner are sulfate free so I feel they’re safer for my hair. One ingredient I look for in haircare is Sodium and unfortunately the shampoo does contain Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulforate and other varieties of sodium. That hasn’t been a deal killer for me now but once I get another keratin treatment I’ll have to put the Revitalizing Shampoo to the side for a few months. Luckily for me the other products I’m using, including Revitalizing Conditioner will continue to be used once the treatment is done. The conditioner is best if you leave it in for about a minute but that’s not an unusual direction.

White Sands the Cure 24/7 serum and Porosity the fix

I’m never done when my shampooing and conditioning are finished. Next is towel drying with my Aquis hair towel and a treatment product or two to work through my hair and make it easier to style.

White Sands the CURE 24/7 serum

White Sands the Cure 24/7 serum

White Sands compares The Cure 24/7 to a blur cream. I think that’s a great way to think about this product. The serum is a leave in reconstructive treatment with visible results. It is known for repairing damaged hair fibers, making your hair stronger and healthier, and restoring hair that’s been abused. As someone who uses 2 – 3 heat tools a day I need this. I’d been torturing my hair and needed this to make my hair look smoother and less flyaway. It’s done just that. While I don’t notice that I have split ends that’s one of the positives that White Sands talks about with The Cure. I spray this on and then comb through my hair prior to blow drying.

White Sands Porosity The Fix

White Sands Porosity The Fix is an old friend of mine. My hairdresser is a huge fan of White Sands and Porosity The Fix is a product she uses on me whenever I’m in for color and cut. Just like The Cure 24/7 was compared to a blur product, The Fix has been compared to makeup for hair. This is especially great for people who color treat their hair since it temporarily fills in the “blemishes” found in each strand. Porosity The Fix is wonderful prior to any heat use, especially a flat iron. My hairdresser uses this as my shine product when she’s done with my hair. I use it that way too but also prior to using my flat iron. I can use this daily without worrying about build up.

All in all I’m thrilled to have White Sands in my repertoire. The fear of fragrance was wrong wrong wrong. What little fragrance I notice is irrelevant but my great looking hair is very relevant. Something you and your hair will notice and love too.  —  Marcia

The magic of Argan oil: Simon & Tom Moroccan Treatment Hair Serum

Simon & Tom Moroccan Treatment Hair Serum

Simon & Tom Moroccan Treatment Hair Serum

Argan oil…it seems like it is a magic elixir that cures all ills. I’ve recently tried a few products from the Simon & Tom line in which every product features the magical Argan oil. There are a few products in particular that I think are standouts, including the Simon & Tom Moroccan Treatment Hair Serum ($34.99). As soon as it gets colder outside I start having two issues – dry, brittle hair and dry skin, especially on my elbows and knees. Simon & Tom has Argan oil products that help with any sort of dryness issues from hair to skin.                       PR sample

Simon & Tom Moroccan Treatment Hair Serum

Simon & Tom Moroccan Treatment Hair Serum

My hair is extremely fine and often hair oils are too heavy for me. While hair oils keep my hair from getting crunchy, they also steal all of my volume. The Simon & Tom Moroccan Treatment Hair Serum is a beautiful glass bottle full of great hair days. I love the pump that is included – usually this type of oil doesn’t have a pump dispenser so I end up wasting a bunch pouring too much into my hand. That said, I have to be careful to only do half a pump – more than that is too much product for my type of hair. Yes, those of us with fine hair walk a fine line with hair products!

Simon & Tom Moroccan Treatment Hair Serum

The Argan oil in the Moroccan Treatment Hair Serum gets rid of frizz while it gives hair major shine. It also doesn’t build up over time, which makes hair dull. The oil smells wonderful, with a sweet, nutty fragrance. Soft, shiny, frizz-free hair that smells fabulous…you can’t really ask for more than that. Simon & Tom is the line to check out for Argan oil-based products. They make my hair look great, and just wait until I tell you about their Elbow Treatment Cream that is the answer for dry, rough skin.  – Lisa

Get rid of frizz with TextureTame – and a giveaway!

Everything else can be going great – foundation goes on smooth, lipstick shade is right, mascara looks fabulous…
Then it gets a little humid out and...FRIZZ.
Before TextureTame

Lots of frizz before TextureTame!

Sponsored post and sample

Because my hair is color treated, most at-home frizz treatments aren’t even an option for me. However, TextureTame from DermStore is not only a great treatment that anyone can use, it could also be yours if you are one of the five lucky Beauty Info Zone winners in our giveaway for a three-month TextureTame System ($195)!!

TextureTame is a permanent, frizz-eliminating at-home treatment. This is a three-step system. The first time you use it, you do all three steps. After that, step 2 is done weekly and step three is done daily for continual results. You get at least three months of frizz-free hair with this system.
The only place you can find the TextureTame system is at DermStore, one of my personal favorites for skin care, hair care, and makeup.  What really impresses me about the TextureTame system is while it eliminates frizz, it doesn’t make hair flat. Hair still has lots of volume, body, and shine.  TextureTame seals each strand of hair so frizz isn’t even an option. If you have naturally curly or wavy hair you will love this, because you keep your curls while losing the roughness.

There are three steps – actually four if you have chemically treated or colored hair like I do. Plan on a good two hours or so for the initial treatment. After that, keeping up the results is pretty easy.

I did a pre-treatment with step 2, which is a deep conditioning treatment that protects hair color. Then, I went to step one, eliminate.

TextureTame Eliminate

Step One: TextureTame Eliminate

Eliminate is a thick paste that you apply once every three months for the major corrective sealing of the hair shaft. It seals each strand while keeping your natural wave or curls intact. Apply it to clean, dry hair and comb through to distribute, leaving it on for about a half hour. Rinse and shampoo, then towel-dry hair.

TextureTame Moisture Lock

Step Two:  TextureTame Moisture Lock

Moisture Lock is the second step. This is a thick conditioning treatment that is applied to damp, towel-dry hair. Then  put a plastic shower cap on and let it set for 15 minutes, rinse, shampoo, and then hair is ready for step three. In addition to the initial treatment, step two needs to be done once a week for the best results.

TextureTame Finish

Step Three:  TextureTame Finish

The final step is Finish, which is applied daily to keep the frizz-free results. This is a lightweight leave in serum that adds tons of shine and strength to hair. It further seals the hair cuticle and it also protects hair from heat styling and from UV exposure. I put this on damp hair before blow drying and I also apply it to dry hair on my non-shampooing days for more shine and a silky texture.

TextureTame Frizz Eliminating System

After TextureTame

After TextureTame – just blown dry, no other heat styling.

Pictured above is my hair after a treatment – just blown dry, no other heat styling at all! Even more impressive, my results have lasted. If you have problems with frizz, you have got to give TextureTame a try.

Our friends at DermStore are sponsoring a giveaway for five TextureTame packages!  The only required entry is signing up for the DermStore newsletter – all other items in the Rafflecopter are options to give you more chances to win.. Clearly better hair with Isabella’s Clearly

We take the topic of hair very, very seriously at Beauty Info Zone. Great looking hair can completely change the trajectory of your day, so it’s worth testing all sorts of products to find ones that consistently create silky, manageable, lustrous locks. We were totally up to the challenge when Isabella’s Clearly offered us two hair products to test.

Isabella’s Clearly is sold on Etsy and on Amazon.  The line features hair, skin, and body treatments and we each chose a hair product based on our own particular follicle challenges.

Isabellas Clearly Tame

LISA uses CLEARLY TAME ($24.98, on sale right now at Amazon and Etsy for $22.98)

My hair issues?  Humidity takes away my curl and turns me into a total frizz-head. Extremely dry air does the same thing, along with the NOT awesome addition of static. I just can’t win! Plus, my hair is very fine, so many products for frizzy hair leave me with a sad, limp hair-don’t.

Isabellas Clearly Tame

CLEARLY TAME is a hair oil for taming down frizz and eliminating static. Ingredients include Almond and Castor oils with essential oils including Peppermint, Lavender, Sandalwood, Geranium, Basil and Rosemary. It sounds like it would be extremely fragranced but it’s isn’t, and any fragrance quickly dissipates. It also sounds like a heavy oil, but used correctly it doesn’t weigh my fine hair down one bit.

CLEARLY TAME can be used several different ways. Those with very dry and curly hair will want to apply it to towel dry hair before air drying or styling. It leaves hair soft and smooth with lots of shine. Those with an oily scalp can use it as a treatment just on the ends and it is fantastic for fixing split ends.

Isabellas Clearly Tame No Frizz Oil

Dry and color treated hair are perfect for TAME. I also use it on my daughter’s hair as a detangler. I am happy to report that even after humid, rainy spring days my hair has no frizz and still has all the curl! This is a great product and I know your hair will love it.

Isabella's Clearly Long

Isabella’s Clearly Long

When given the opportunity to try out an Isabella’s Clearly product I instantly knew that CLEARLY LONG was the one for me.  My hair needs extra help these days and the benefits of Clearly Long are perfect for me. According to the site Clearly Long

  • Promotes hair growth
  • Rejuvenates dry damaged hair
  • Moisturizes and nourishes dry scalp bringing total hair balance
  • Does not weigh your hair down
  • 100% natural essential oil ingredients

This lightweight oil ($22.98 for 2 oz at Amazon and Etsy) helps by transforming hair inside and out. The way I use it is to start with a little (and I mean a little) bit. After washing and towel drying I pour a drop into my hands, rub them together and massage my scalp.  Another way to apply this is to section your hair and comb it through each section but I prefer to use less of the oil and concentrate on my scalp.

Isabella's Clearly Long

Isabella’s Clearly Long

The ingredients help with growth and also with having smoother, less frizzy hair. I know hair growth is a very slow process but I’m doing what I can to get a healthy head of hair again and Clearly Long is helping me on that journey.  It has a very light herbal fragrance that is gone by the time I finish blow drying my hair. I find my hair to be shiny and easy to manage after using Clearly Long.

I’m counting on Clearly Long to help with the follicles and roots of my hair because of their use of therapeutic grade natural ingredients” a proprietary blend of Almond oil with essential oils including Peppermint, Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Peppermint, Lemon, Sage, and Rosemary, Cypress, Geranium.” Grow long please with Clearly Long and Isabella!!

We declare both products worthy of good hair days. Be sure to take a look at Isabella’s Clearly on Amazon and on Etsy.

My Brazilian Blowout experience and review

When friends hear that I get my hair straightened they shake their head in amazement. In their mind I’m the one with straight hair so why would I want it straightened? It’s true that basically I do have straight hair but that doesn’t mean it’s the way I want it. My wants are to not have to worry about frizz, to not worry about silly kinks in my hair, and to wake up and brush my hair and be done most days. As we age our hair changes too so what is in their mind from my 20’s and 30’s isn’t what I have in my older age. Gray or white hair grows in coarser than brown hair and that coarseness can bring with it a curl or kink that wasn’t there. This is why I recently went for a Brazilian Blowout at my beauty salon.

Brazilian Blowout before and after, similar to my hair

This is probably the 6th time I’ve done a keratin process. I’ve had the Coppola Keratin done at least 3 times. I had something called Keratin Express done once and I had the original Brazilian Blowout done. All worked pretty well for the process but there were negatives with them all. The Coppola Keratin was actually terrific but it was three days of torture afterwards. You can’t get your hair wet or damp at all. That means no showers, no exercise, making sure you aren’t in the rain plus NEVER EVER pull your hair back or clip it. By the end of the third day my skin was crawling to get into a shower and wash it. Granted, it lasted well for approximately 5 – 6 months on my shoulder length hair, but the idea of going through this was again was torture.

The Keratin Express was a shorter process. You can wash it out the same day but my hairstylist recommended leaving it in at least 24 hours to let it set. Some process as above but you can wash it and leave if you want. But my hair wasn’t AS straight and it didn’t last that long.

Enter the Brazilian Blowout. Now if you are know anything about the process you’ve heard some pretty awful things in the past. I was surprised when my stylist told me that’s what she’s using from now on. But I trust her completely so when she told me about the classes she took to learn how to do it properly and about her certification I decided to go along with her recommendation.

In the past there was some controversy that Brazilian Blowout contained formaldehyde. It was really a big deal in the news and in the beauty world. Brazilian Blowout made sure their products passed all the standards and tests available to counteract the negative press they were given.

The process itself takes 90 minutes although I did have my hair tinted on the same day so I was in the salon longer. The basic steps done by my stylist are as follows:

  1. Wash the hair very thoroughly with a clarifying shampoo. My hair was washed 3 times to make sure that it was perfectly free of color and any products so it would accept the treatment well.
  2. Blow dry the hair until it’s at least 2/3 dry. It can be slightly damp without a problem.
  3. The stylist now applies the product in layers combing the keratin through thoroughly. This takes the most time since just a small amount of hair is done at a time.
  4. Once your hair is covered with the Brazilian Blowout formula the stylist then blows it totally dry using a very hot hairdryer.
  5. Next she/he uses a 450 degree flat iron and goes through your hair a little at a time until your hair is totally flat ironed.
  6. The hair is then washed twice. I waited a few minutes and then the Acai Masque was applied and I waited a few minutes for that to set.
  7. Last is another wash (I’m not sure if this was with or without shampoo) and a blow dry using the BB Acai Serum or Balm. That’s it. Done. (official steps are HERE)

My hair was not only perfectly straight but it was as shiny as could be. I didn’t have any need to even wash it for the next 3 days though I was able to stick it up in a ponytail and put on a shower cap to take a shower. I had my hair in a ponytail often for the next few days afterwards too since that’s how I wear my hair when I’m taking care of my grandson. He’d leave and I’d take out the elastic and my hair would fall back straight and shiny.

Now I’m washing it every few days using Brazilian Blowout Açai Styling Products. Once a week it’s recommended that instead of using the Açai conditioner  that you use the Açai Masque and leave it on for 5 minutes and then wash it out. I’ve continued using my current argan oils but I’m considering buying the Açai Protective Thermal Straightening Balm to use instead. The Acai products add more keratin to your hair making the bond stronger and longer lasting.

Now for the cost… I’m sure this varies all over the country and in each salon. I paid $350 for the process which also included three full size Brazilian Blowout Acai products (shampoo, conditioner and masque).

If you live in the Detroit, Michigan area I highly recommend my stylist and salon: R Place Salon on 12 Mile Road in Farmington Hills, MI. The phone number is 248-553-4480 . My stylist is named Rima and I’ve sent people to her for a few years now with absolute confidence in her skills. The other stylists in the salon have also been trained to do the process too. (I received no compensation or discount for this process by the way.)

The day I had the Brazilian Blowout done it was absolutely pouring out. It made no difference at all. I was out all evening so I was in and out of the rain though I was wearing a raincoat. As I’m writing this I’ve recently come in from being in a light rain and my hair is perfect. I love how my hair looks since it’s shiny and silky. It’s so easy to take care of. I wake up and brush my hair and that’s it! I’m done. Shiny, swingy hair. I know too that it will last me at least 4 months and probably 6.  Would I recommend this? A resounding YES! — Marcia

For more information and the Frequently Asked Questions please read the Brazilian Blowout website. Here’s some additional information I just learned – if you have blonde hair ask for Brazilian Blowout Free. It is a better formula for those of you with blonde hair since it won’t interfere with your color at all.
