Loving these eyeliners! Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pens plus Eye Bright Liner and Eye Define Waterline TightlineBlack

Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pens

Pixi does many, many things right and gel pencil eyeliners are at the top of the list. I love a great gel eyeliner – quick, easy, vibrant color that lasts all day. I have some favorites – Make Up For Ever, Bobbi Brown…but I think Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pens ($12) are my stars. They are sooo creamy and they really do glide on. The best part is that they just don’t budge. I can work out, sweat, cry, really cry, rub my eyes, cry some more, it doesn’t matter – unless I am taking my eyeliner off with makeup remover, this eyeliner stays true! Plus, they are perfect for the waterline. This is holy grail stuff, my friends.

Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pens swatches

BlackBlue is an excellent shade. It’s not the run of the mill dark blue or the typical black. I love the mix of black and blue – it gives awesome definition but isn’t harsh.

MatteMulberry is a lovely reddish-brown. It looks great paired with RoseGlow or to mix things up I use this to line my upper lid and then line my lower lid with BlackBlue.

VelvetViolet really surprised me. I didn’t think I would have much use for this bright violet purple, but it’s one of my favorites! I do a simple eye look with it – just a sheer wash of color, like MAC Painterly, then line my upper lid with VelvetViolet and my lower lid with BlackBlue, and follow with tons of super black mascara. It’s divine.

RoseGlow is just gorgeous – a shimmery golden bronze that is so flattering, especially if you have hazel eyes. It’s really perfect paired with MatteMulberry.

Application is truly delightful with lots of play time before the gel liner sets. I adore these shades, and there are 17 more shades available so take a look – your perfect shades are bound to be in there somewhere!

Eye Bright Liner Nude

Eye Bright Liner Nude ($11.99) is different from the MatteNude Endless Silky Eye Pen which I reviewed HERE. This has a smaller tip which makes it better for precision lining. It’s also a non-sharpening pen, so you twist it up instead of using a pencil sharpener. I always feel like I get a fresh point with a sharpener so I don’t know if this is a plus or not – your preference, really.  Otherwise, I think it’s basically the same as the MatteNude Endless Silky Eye Pen – a peachy/pink nude shade that finishes the waterline and really opens up the eye making it look doe-eye huge. It is waterproof so it lasts all day, and it works for sensitive eyes.

Eye Define Waterline TightlineBlack

Eye Define Waterline TightlineBlack ($14) had me all excited – a thin black liner for the waterline and for tightlining! I was hoping for the same awesome staying power as the rest of the Pixi eyeliners, but sadly this smudged on me pretty quickly. This has the same non-sharpening pen style as the EyeBright Liner Nude. I wanted to love it but I didn’t. I’ll stick with the Endless Silky Eye Pens for my waterline and tightlining – they work great and last all day long.

Eye Bright Liner Nude and Eye Define Waterline TightlineBlack

Whatever your eyelining pleasure, Pixi has wonderful options. Personally, I don’t think you can beat the Endless Silky Eye Pens and I would love to collect all 21 shades.  You can find them and other great Pixi products at Target stores nationwide.  – Lisa

It’s eye inspiring! Beth Bender Beauty

As Marcia wrote about a few days ago, Beth Bender Beauty is all about accenting the eyes. I have a few more great products for you today – a brush set, a gel liner, and a fabulous highlighting palette. Use these with the stencils Marcia reviewed HERE and your look will truly be eye inspiring!

Beth Bender Sweet Dreams Highlighter Palette

samples

The Beth Bender Beauty Sweet Cheeks Highlighter Palettes ($30) highlight skin, cheeks and eyes – my how I love multi-taskers! These beautiful powders reflect light and can be used alone or layered over eyeshadow, blush, or bronzer. The different powders come in matte, iridescent and metallic finishes and also look truly gorgeous on the eyes…in fact I honestly thought this was an eyeshadow palette at first. Used with a big fluffy brush they give skin a gorgeous glow, but used with eyeshadow brushes they give lots of drama and glimmer (especially when applied wet) and last forever. My palette is called Sweet Dreams.

Get Technical is the lightest shade, a creamy iridescent champagne –

Get Technical

The second lightest is the peachy Sweeten Up that has lots of glow and glimmer –

Sweeten Up

The finally, there is the purple Siren which is matte but makes for a very interesting glow on darker skin tones –

Siren

All three shades are excellent eyeshadows as well as highlighters.

Beth Bender Brushes

Beth Bender Brushes

Beth Bender Brushes

This six piece brush set is part of the Pro Makeup collection but you can also purchase these brushes separately.  Overall, they are very nice brushes that give a lot of bang for the buck.

Beth Bender Deluxe Pointed Eyeliner Brush

The Deluxe Pointed Eyeliner Brush (originally $17, right now on sale for $12.99)…so this isn’t my favorite brush. I think it’s too long and doesn’t have enough firmness. It bends too much too use with liquid liners or gel liners. I can’t really recommend it.

Beth Bender Angled Eyeliner Brush

The Angled Eyeliner Brush ($12) is truly perfection!! And look at that price! This is a fantastic gel liner brush. If you only get one Beth Bender brush, get this one. You’ll never use another gel liner brush again – it’s that versatile.

Beth Bender Dome Shape Mini Liner Brush

The Dome Shape Mini Liner Brush ($10) will be your best friend for working with gel liners. Great for upper and lower lid lining and creating cats eye looks, especially with Beth Bender stencils.

Beth Bender Pro Medium Shadow Brush

The Pro Medium Shadow Brush ($13) is a great brush, one of my favorites. It’s very soft but dense, and really packs eyeshadow on beautifully.

Beth Bender Pro Crease Blender Brush

The Pro Crease Blender Brush ($13) is a little too long and a little too soft for my old eyes. I need my crease brushes to be a bit more dense, but if you like softer crease brushes you will love this one.

Beth Bender Concealer Brush

The Concealer Brush ($14) is darn near perfect. I love the shape and it’s the perfect size for getting into those awkward dark areas around the eye/nose areas.

Beth Bender Valeria Gel Eyeliner

Now let’s talk eyeliner! The Valeria Gel Eyeliner ($14) is astoundingly good. Look at how gorgeous this is!! The texture is wet, so there is lots of play time before it dries down. You can build this up to be as dramatic as you’d like. The metallic amethyst really shows, especially if you use one of the Beth Bender stencils as your guide in creating a winged eyeliner look.

Beth Bender Valeria Gel Eyeliner

This eyeliner doesn’t crack, wear off, flake, or smudge. It just looks amazing all day long. I love it! Now, I’m pretty partial to this beautiful amethyst shade, but there are lots of other gorgeous colors available at Beth Bender Beauty so you should head on over to the website and poke around a bit.

A few of our favorite things – a blog hop giveaway that you’ll love to enter

Welcome to Beauty Info Zone. As part of our 12 Days of Christmas giveaways we’ve joined with a group of bloggers to do our first BLOG HOP. Each blog will have a different prize that they’ve chose to give away. I’ve chosen the COLOURPOP FAUNCY BOX which contains 3 creme gel eyeliners and 3 creme pencils. I bought one for myself as well so I could show you what you’ll be getting.

ColourPop Fauncy

ColourPop Fauncy Creme Gel Colour Set

There are 3 pencils in the set:  Bustier – matte black, Soiree – charcoal with some shimmer, Frill – silver/lavender metallic. I really like the variety in the pencils. Both Soiree and Frill add a nice dimension to my collection. These apply easily and they are long lasting. While they don’t work well on me on my waterline, they do last when I use them as a lower lash eyeliner. Frill is described as a soft, icy lavender. It has a little bit of shimmer but it’s not too much. It’s unique to me. Soiree is a pencil that was missing in my collection since finding charcoal is tough. It’s described as a deep gunmetal with silver and gold shimmer. I don’t find the shimmer to be obvious but I don’t layer it which would probably make it show more.

The creme gel eyeliners are all black or charcoal. Bustier – matte black, Polar –  black with multi shimmer, and Soiree –  charcoal metallic, slight shimmer. The Creme Gel Eyeliners are a tad disappointing but that’s because I normally line top and bottom lash lines. While the Creme Gels last quite well and apply smoothly along my top lashline, they don’t last at all on my bottom lashline. They’ll crack on me after a few hours. That doesn’t make me not wear them though, I just use the pencil on the bottom and the creme gel on the top!

Polar is a black that’s not ultra black. It’s softened by multi-colored shimmer in it. I really like this a lot and wish it worked on my bottom lashline. Bustier is described as a deep blackened olive but on me it’s basically black. I don’t find that the olive shows up when used as an eyeliner. Soiree is my favorite. It works well with the pencil of the same name as they are both a gunmetal with silver and gold shimmer. I don’t find the shimmer to be glittery which is a plus in my book.

Side by side: lessons Marcia and Lisa learn from each other (and check out this Farmhouse Fresh Giveaway)

heart for beauty infoThere are lots of amazing beauty blogs out there and we learn a ton from our blogging friends every single day. What you may not know, however, is that we also learn so much from each other! We have both been reviewing products and writing beauty articles for over ten years and we have been working together on Beauty Info Zone for five of those years. Sometimes Marcia gives an essential tip that Lisa finds she can’t live without; sometimes Lisa challenges Marcia to try something out of her comfort zone with surprising results. Today we are writing about one of best gifts we’ve found through the years from each other.

Lisa’s Side:

Long ago, Marcia and I met online through ‘swapping’ on MakeUpAlley. Marcia then told me about another website she ran where there was a great beauty community with reviews and wonderful chat boards. Sadly, that website eventually went out of business, but I made some lifelong friends from all over the world. I also learned one of my favorite beauty tips ever from my future blogging partner, Marcia!

part of Lisa's gel eyeliner collection

part of Lisa’s gel eyeliner collection

Ok, so you know how gel eyeliners are wonderful…they are easy to apply, they are fun to work with because you can go super defined or you can smudge out the line, they are way easier to work with than liquid liners, and they have even better lasting power than pencil eyeliners. What isn’t so wonderful is how quickly those little pots of amazingness dry out. I could never use up an entire pot of gel liner before it became hard and totally useless.

Old way of using gel eyeliners

Old way of using gel eyeliners

I still remember the joy I felt when I read this tip from Marcia: to get the most out of your gel eyeliner, use the outer side of the pot first. Take your brush and grab liner around the rim. This helps keep the integrity of the product and makes it last and last and last. Some of my favorite gel liners are Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliners. I lost quite a few before I started using this simple trick Marcia taught me. I actually have gel liner pots that are seven years old and they are still as fresh as the day I bought them!!

the best way to use a gel eyeliner

the best way to use a gel eyeliner

Marcia has steered me toward many ‘perfect’ Lisa products, but her gel eyeliner tip stands out for me since it has saved me tons of money over the years. I think of her every time I use a gel liner!

Marcia’s Side:

What Lisa has taught me (besides the fact that I have to loosen up) is not to be so afraid of products. She’ll often convince me to try something that’s out of my comfort zone. Most times she’s right but today’s review is all about hitting the bullseye with FARMHOUSE FRESH. Every time a product from Farmhouse Fresh was offered I’d send the email to Lisa and tell her that it was perfect for her. But recently I did that and she insisted that it was something I was going to love and that I had to do it. Thank you Lisa!!

Farmhouse Fresh Watermelon Basil Vodkatini Body Scrub

Farmhouse Fresh Watermelon Basil Vodkatini Body Scrub

Farmhouse Fresh Watermelon Basil Vodkatini Body Scrub is amazing. When I use this in the shower I don’t want to get out. The smell is to die for. I wish we had Smell-O-Blog for you to sniff what I sniff. It’s a combination of real watermelon seed oil, sweet basil oil and organic vodka mixed with sugar and rice bran oil. This isn’t a wimpy scrub, the sugar (with some salt in it) gives you a lot to work with to help exfoliate your skin. It washes cleanly off leaving behind a little bit of nourishing oil. It also dissolves in the shower so you don’t go slip sliding away.

I keep a plastic spoon in my shower to mix the oil into the scrub to evenly disperse it. This Farmhouse Fresh Body Scrub not only makes me smell delicious but it leaves my skin wonderfully soft. I hate to use a body lotion after it so I wait as long as I can before applying anything else. I just want to smell myself. That fragrant aroma does fade away so you can continue with a fragrance of your choice – but I wish it didn’t.

Top Ten Tuesday picks favorite colored eyeliners

It’s so nice to be back online and able to write a TOP TEN TUESDAY review. This week is especially fun since it’s about eyeliners and I can’t live without my eyeliner when I’m doing my makeup. There were two hard things for me with this week’s challenge – 1) I can’t get upstairs to take pictures so I left out some favorite brands like Urban Decay and 2) we aren’t “allowed” to include black or brown which is what I wear most days. But I am rising to the challenge and picking out my favorite colored liners.

1.  MAKEUP GEEK GEL LINERS – These are absolutely wonderful gel liners that I can’t recommend highly enough. The price tag of $8.99 makes these a steal because they are so long lasting and wear better than most gel eyeliners. I especially love Rave shown below because it’s a fabulous taupe. If you read the linked review you’ll see Electric, Mystic and Fame that are must haves if you love beautiful colors in gel eyeliners. *

2.  TARTE smolderEYES™ Amazonian clay waterproof liners  I can’t rave enough about tarte’s eyeliners. They make a variety of colors and styles. The two shown in the collage are Taupe and Rose Gold. Tarte comes out with new colors all the time and the best time to buy them is when they are part of a set, you’ll get shades you didn’t know you would fall in love with and at a great price. *

3. CAILYN LINEFIX GEL LINERS – I have a slew of these because they make shades that aren’t easily available from every line. These are $21 retail but I’ve yet to pay that. I’ve gotten them in subscription boxes and found them for less online. The collage shows black but the review shows the gorgeous green, blue and purple available.

4. PIXI BEAUTY ENDLESS SILKY EYE PENCILS – If you are seeking colored eyeliner pencils you can’t go wrong with Pixi Beauty. These are amazing. I have the set shown which contains Black Noir, Deep Plum, Black Cocoa, Sage Gold and Oyster Glow as well as singles like Cafe Gold. These glide on and are truly silky. The set is $18 so you get a nice variety but once you try it you’ll go on to buy the singles for $12 too.

5. MARC JACOBS BEAUTY HIGHLINER GEL CRAYONS – No I don’t have this set (yet) but it’s amazing and I want it. I do have individual colors of the Highliner Gel Crayons and they are something to aspire owning. These are so smooth and the colors are fabulous. This set is $45 and contains  O(vert) (forest green), Brown(out) (bronze with shimmer), Th(ink) (deep navy), (Plum)age (vivid purple), Blacquer (black), Sunset (golden bronze shimmer), Midnight in Paris (inky indigo blue). I have full sizes of Blacquer, Th(ink) and (Plum)age and those are $25 each so you can see what a gem this limited edition set is.

6. YOUNGBLOOD EYE-MAZING LIQUID EYE PENS – My favorite liquid eyeliners when it comes to colors out of the ordinary. There are 5 shades all together and I use the black and brown (marron) all the time but the other 3 are gems. Verde is an amazing green and Azul is the most unusual blue – it is not navy as you can see. I highly recommend these liquid liners and never want to be without Marron.

7.  TARINA TARANTINO HYPERLINER – The one shown is Ultra Violet and it’s a fabulous shade as well as a fabulous pencil eyeliner. Besides being beautifully pigmented, it’s long lasting. The secret to this is to watch Hautelook for sales on Tarina Tarantino since the products are so well priced. I’ve bought most of my TT products this way.

8. IT COSMETICS NO TUG WATERPROOF GEL EYELINER PENCILS – All 10 shades are shown in our review of these gel eyeliner pencils so you can see what beauties they are. IT Cosmetics continues to be one of my favorite lines and these beautiful eyeliners keep up the tradition.  These are my 5 and I am especially fond of Lucky Jade, Navy and Silk Taupe. It’s nice to have a navy that isn’t black so that makes it special. Plum (check review) is an especially pretty shade. *

The numbers stop at 8 but there are probably 2 dozen colored liners in here that I love. While black and brown may rule the day, colored liners should rule the night! Any that you love to recommend?

Side by Side: Makeup Geek Gel Eyeliners

Makeup Geek Gel Eyeliners

Makeup Geek Gel Eyeliners

makeup geek liners

Marlena, the gorgeous artist and creator of the Makeup Geek website, was one of the first beauty bloggers and a true innovator in the field. The BIZ has long admired Marlena and her work and now her cosmetics line is earning our love as well.

Read on to find out what Lisa and Marcia think about Marlena’s Gel Eyeliners!

Lisa’s Side:

There are so many gel liners out there, why buy the ones from Makeup Geek? I think there are three reasons:

1.  The price – these are so affordable.  3G / 0.1 oz for $7.99. Compared to my other favorites from Bobbi Brown ($23 for the same size) and MAC ($16 for the same size), these are much easier on my pocketbook.

2.  The colors – they are different, vibrant, fabulous.

3.  These gel liners WORK on the waterline. They go on easily, and they stay!!

Electric

Electric

Electric is a bright royal blue with no shimmer at all. This is absolutely stunning on brown eyes!! I especially love it on the waterline.

Mystic

Mystic

Mystic is a light emerald green with metallic gold shimmer. This is stunning as a lid liner, especially if you smudge it out a bit.

Fame

Fame

Fame is a dark navy teal with shimmer. It is truly unique and just gorgeous.

My Makeup Geek eye look below features Mystic on the upper lid, and Fame on the waterline. Seriously, for the price and for the waterline wear these are must haves!!

Marcia’s Side:

While Lisa showed you the gorgeous bright colors I’m going to showcase more “normal” colors from the line. The ones you’d want to wear day in and day out. Like my blog partner, I’m totally impressed with these liners. They glide on yet they last better than just about any other gel liner I’ve tried. You just can’t find this kind of quality at this price elsewhere.

Twinkle, Mobster and Rave

Twinkle, Mobster and Rave

My trio of delights contains Twinkle, Mobster and Rave.

Twinkle

Twinkle

Twinkle

Twinkle

TWINKLE is a beautiful charcoal with just a touch of shimmer to the look. Many charcoal shades show up too black but Makeup Geek’s Twinkle has a pretty radiance and a true gray color.

Mobster

Mobster

MOBSTER is a matte brown. It’s the workhorse of the bunch. I wear a lot of brown on my eyes and I find that Mobster works with everything.

Rave

Rave

I have to rave about RAVE. Just look at that color. How many times have you seen a taupe eyeliner? The only one I can think of was a Chanel pencil that was 4 times the cost of Rave. There’s a complexity to it that I love. It’s great for my bottom lashline too since it has a lightness to it that’s terrific. Here’s another shot just in case …

You can’t go wrong with Makeup Geek Gel Liners. Whether you want the bright shades like Lisa’s or the staid shades like Marcia’s you’ll end up with long lasting liners that go on smoothly in very rich shades. It’s a win-win situation.
