A hit and a miss from Wantable Cosmetics

I’ve been a subscriber to Wantable’s Cosmetic boxes for several years now. Occasionally I receive a box for review which I did with the two boxes I’m going to share today. I’m grateful when that happens and hate to bash them if there’s a miss but one of these two boxes is a total miss for me which is unfortunate. Let me know if either of these would be a hit or a miss for you.

FEBRUARY’S COSMETIC WANTABLE BOX:

Wantable Cosmetics for February

Wantable Cosmetics for February

As usual there are only full size cosmetic items in this package. A subscription costs $36 per month and this February box has a value of $77 which is makes it worth twice as much as paid.

1) BODYOGRAPHY LOOSE COMPLEXION POWDER in PORCELAIN ($24) – this has a very smooth and silky texture and the color is perfect for my fair skin.

2) BODYOGRAPHY MAKEUP REMOVER WIPES ($12) – this contains 50 wipes. I’ve never seen a package of wipes this big. It’s double the typical size. I won’t use this on my eyes even though it says it can remove waterproof makeup but these will get used. It should last me for months and months.

3) LORD & BERRY LIQUID EYELINER in BLACK ($24) – I’m a huge fan of liquid eyeliner though I do have enough black liners for the next few years. This is a truly waterproof liner. I couldn’t get it off my hand with water even hours later. It’s not my favorite type of packaging since I tend to be more messy with a short brush but when I want long lasting, this will be it.

4) FRANKIE ROSE LIPSTICK in PINK MELON ($16) is the prize in the package. My blog partner Lisa has reviewed several Frankie Rose products but this is my first experience with them and it’s a winner! This lipstick is beautifully pigmented and has a beautiful shine all on its own. It’s creamy and moisturizing.

WANTABLE COSMETIC BOX FOR MARCH

My March box has me confused and you’ll soon see why. The value of this box is $66.50 and contains 4 full size products.

1) BODYOGRAPHY NAIL LACQUER in FANCY FREE ($8.50) is a very pretty spring peach cream polish. Even though it’s a full size, Bodyography’s polishes are a little smaller than most.

2) AU NATURALE LIP & CHEEK TINT in PARISIAN PINK ($22) is a conundrum. The color in the pot is very appealing.

The color once applied is basically invisible. I like a light lip but this is totally clear on my lips. And it doesn’t show up on my cheeks. I got one swatch seen below to photograph and never could recreate it.

3) and 4)  BILLION DOLLAR BROWS BROW POWDER in LIGHT BROWN and in TAUPE ($18 each) – UM, why did I get the same product in two shades? And since my hair is dark brown can I really use Light Brown?

I’m sure the idea behind this is to mix the colors but this just doesn’t work for me. I’ve got it already in Taupe (which they couldn’t possibly have known) and I like it in Taupe but I really wish they had sent me a totally different product instead of the Light Brown.

I don’t think you’ll have a problem knowing which is the hit and which is the miss. The great thing about Wantable though is that they have a no hassle return policy. On your packing slip you’ll find the actual cost and the price you’ll get if you return any items. So I can return the ones that don’t work for me and get a credit toward my next box or a refund for the value. Wantable makes a shopping experience easy and fun. You can change around your profile preferences as often as you wish to get the customized box of your dreams. I’m removing powders and brows for now since I’m overloaded and will add back in highlighters which was off my list for a while.

I’ve certainly got some winners from Wantable and even the ones I won’t use might be great for someone else. Which box do you think was my HIT? Are you ready to hit with Wantable? If so please use the Beauty Info Zone affiliate link to sign up.  — Marcia

Makeup Wars goes traveling

A year ago the Makeup Wars bloggers took on Travel and we decided to do it again this year. Knowing what to pack and how much to pack is something that always drives us crazy. The men in our lives mostly throw a few things in a Dopp kit and don’t think twice. But women worry and fret over what we can or can not live without for however many days we are gone.

My needs haven’t changed much in the last year but there are a few things that I talked about back then that I’m totally grateful to have for travel and a few that I’ve added. Places like 3floz.com are wonderful to find travel size items and even Sephora has value sets and some travel size products. I love using my Sephora points for deluxe samples that I’ve wanted to try or love enough to take traveling.

My favorite makeup bag is the one I have from Hold Me. I don’t use it on an everyday basis because I’m the type that “saves” things. Instead this is going on a trip with me. They now make it in 3 sizes instead of just the ‘baby’ and full size. They added in Mama Bear too. These are sturdy, elegant, and hold an amazing amount of products and brushes. All my makeup is stored in my Hold Me bag now when I travel.

I collect skincare in travel sizes, most of which I’ve gotten through subscriptions like Glossybox and IPSY. I don’t always love the samples in these but I’m a subscription box junkie and I always find something I love in each box.

I also have bought a lot from Algenist during their site’s sales. If you subscribe to their website you’ll get offers from them for special sets or discounts. My best buy was when they had 40% off and free shipping. That’s when I really shopped and bought cleanser, mini eye creams, and moisturizers. I know that Algenist agrees with my skin so it’s a great travel choice.

I like to take some wipes with me and the Ole Henriksen Truth to Go Wipes are small and perfect for a short trip.

The hardest thing to pack is for my hair. What if it frizzes? What if it falls totally flat? What if a million things that can go wrong. I’m counting on two things seen in my collage – an Aquis hair towel, GoToob containers and John Frieda’s Hot Air brush.

I like to bring the shampoo and conditioner that I’m using at the time of my trip so containers like these cute GoToob’s are excellent. I fill them with whatever I’m using, use them on the trip and then finish up what’s left when I get home. Then they are ready for to be refilled. These happen to be very sturdy and so far I haven’t had spillage like I’ve had with less expensive plastic containers. These have a large opening so it’s easy for me to pour in my product.

My hair dries super slow. It retains water therefore a normal towel does nothing. I know not to rub my hair so I like to make a turban out of my Aquis hair towel and give it some drying time. There are other brands of this kind of towel but I’ve had mine for a dozen years and I take it on every trip and use it whenever I wash my hair.

Last on this long list is my John Frieda Hot Air Brush. I never used to be able to travel without a big heavy duty hair dryer, several brushes and my flat iron. The hotel dryers didn’t work on my hair. Now though I can travel with just the Aquis towel, a comb and this Hot Air Brush. The wimpy hotel dryers are enough to get the moisture out and I can finish with John Frieda. This has been one of my best buys.

If I wrote about what makeup I take we’d be here forever. But maybe I’ve given you some ideas on how to travel a little more lightly so you have room in your suitcase for all the things you want to buy! Bon Voyage.  — Marcia

Ole Henriksen Truth to Go Wipes to the rescue

Ole Henriksen Truth to Go Vitamin C Wipes

Ole Henriksen Truth to Go Wipes

It’s funny how tastes change over time. When facial wipes first came out I had no interest in them. I didn’t see the purpose of them. I bought a pack here or there but they’d often dry out for lack of use. That’s changed and I have a variety of facial wipes and use them for different purposes. My latest favorite is by Ole Henriksen and it’s their Truth to Go Cleansing Wipes which were sent to test.

I use wipes in a variety of ways.

1)      To refresh my skin during the day.

2)      To remove makeup instead of washing it off.

3)      As a blogger, to remove the swatches covering arms and hands.

4)      To “wash” my hands before eating out.

5)      To wipe off my little guy and his very sticky hands.

Ole Henriksen Truth to Go Wipes, 10 pack

Ole Henriksen Truth to Go Wipes, 10 pack

With the Ole Henriksen Truth to Go Wipes I like having the 10 pack ($6) in my purse and the 30 pack ($15) in my bathroom. It’s not always convenient for me to get to a bathroom if I have a 2 year old in tow but with a pack of these wipes in my purse I can grab them and clean my hands off. I am very fussy about scent so if I forget his unscented baby wipes then I have my own orange scented wipes to take care of us.

Since I’m the ‘queen of hot flashes’ (an unwanted role in my life) I often need to wipe my face in a very gentle way. I don’t want to scrub, I just want to refresh. I’ll sometimes have mascara or eyeliner dripping down – and it’s seriously not a pretty picture. Ole Henriksen helps remove the grime without removing all my makeup. They contain essential fatty acids too that nourish the skin. Plus they are refreshing for me to use after an episode.

At the end of the day, I just don’t always feel like removing all my makeup. If I’m tired it’s easier to use a Truth to Go wipe to remove my makeup than it is for me to stand at the sink. While these are made to remove eye makeup too, they only help me on certain days. Since I wear an intense eye most days I’ll often need to start with a specific eye makeup remover and then get the remainder off with my Ole Henriksen wipe. I like to do that since they have Vitamin C and micro algae which helps brighten, firm and smooth the texture of skin.

I’m not going to pretend I don’t know that a lot of people use baby wipes in place of cosmetic wipes but unless money is a big issue I’d save the baby wipes for the kids. Using Ole Henriksen’s Touch to Go Cleansing Wipes is better for your face. They have skin care ingredients like the Vitamin C and micro algae mentioned plus green tea and alpha hydroxyl acids. They are formulated WITHOUT parabens, sulfates, synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, phthalates, GMOs and triclosan. Personally I have one face and I want to use products with ingredients I trust and that are made for me. Ole Henriksen has made these for people like you and me and I’m thanking them for doing so. — Marcia
