PÜR No Filter Blurring Photography Primer is a glowy delight

PÜR No Filter Primer

PÜR No Filter Primer

The short name: PÜR No Filter Primer. The long name: PÜR No Filter Blurring Photography Primer. The long and short of it is that this is a great primer and one of the few things I left out to use over the last few weeks. I’m packing everything away and I know it will be a while until I’ve got my large collection organized and I wanted to keep using some of my favorite products. PÜR No Filter Primer made that cut.

PÜR No Filter Blurring Photography Primer

I have a small collection of primers but I tend to forget about them most of the time. Once I started learning about the PÜR No Filter Primer though I had a feeling that this would work well for my skin.

There are 5 reasons why I felt this way

  1. It moisturizes my face in a light, non-greasy manner.
  2. It helps with color balance since it has a slight tint.
  3. This helps prime my skin making it ready for foundation.
  4. It illuminates skin.
  5. It has a blurring aspect.
PÜR No Filter Blurring Photography Primer

PÜR No Filter Blurring Photography Primer

PÜR No Filter Blurring Photography Primer is completely different than any primer I’ve previously used. It contains prismatic blurring micro-pearls which help to color correct. For me I notice a slight gold tint to it. It’s not yellow, it’s gold and it brightens my face in such a lovely way.

Either apply a drop directly unto your skin (you don’t need a lot) or mix it with your foundation and apply together. PÜR No Filter Primer can also be used on your body to give it a moisturizing radiance.

PÜR No Filter Primer will be a great summer pick-me-up especially on the days you are toiling inside and envying the sun.  —  Marcia

Hard Candy is so 2016 – strobing, fierce lips, and glowy primer

Hard Candy Pure Defense Primer Serum, Fierce Effects Lipsticks, Strobing Kit

Hard Candy Pure Defense Primer Serum, Fierce Effects Lipsticks, Strobing Kit and Pencil

If you are looking for some up to the minute products with a price that’s unbelievable, Hard Candy is your best friend. Hard Candy is exclusive to Walmart and Walmart.com. so I think you should sneak over to the beauty section when you are buying your veggies. Hard Candy will only make a little bump in your budget, not even a dent. I have 3 types of products that were sent that you need to know about.

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Pore-Defense Primer Serum

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Pore-Defense Primer Serum

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Pore-Defense Primer Serum has been on my face daily since receiving it. What do you hear about all the time online now? Color Correcting!! That’s what every company is is bringing out and what we are all fascinated with. When I first started using this I had a surprise:

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Pore-Defense Primer Serum

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Pore-Defense Primer Serum

It’s a teal blue just like the bottle. Why teal? To brighten your face. The Pore Defense Primer Serum does a little bit of everything. First it contains pore-tightening actives and astringents that absorb excess oil. There’s micro-fine powder in the serum that you won’t notice but your skin will because it blurs fine lines while color correcting. I find this gives a nice glow to my skin that doesn’t look greasy. Plus it helps my foundation last! I can promise you that this $8 primer will be among my favorites for the year.

ULTIMATE STROBING KIT AND STROBING HIGHLIGHTING PENCIL

Hard Candy LOOK PRO! ULTIMATE Strobing Kit and Strobing Highlighting Duo Stick

Hard Candy LOOK PRO! ULTIMATE Strobing Kit and Strobing Highlighting Duo Stick

It wouldn’t be 2016 without strobing. In 2014 we called it highlighting but starting late in 2015 everyone started saying strobing. Whatever you call it, the LOOK PRO! ULTIMATE Strobing Kit is perfectly attuned to the times.

This $8 kit has everything you need to do your face: 2 Luminizers, Matte Bronzer, Matte Blush, a tube of Strobing Glow, and a travel size brush. The metallic kit closes firmly so it’s great for home or on-the-go. The colors in it are very flattering. I don’t use bronzers often so to find a light one that is good for some contouring is a pleasure. The color of the blush is peach and very flattering. The two luminizers will complement your look with a subtle radiant glow, nothing flashy. BUT if you want flashy that’s where the tube of Strobing Glow fits in. This gives a nice shimmer without glimmer and livens everything up. Use it on your cheekbones, your cupid’s bow, or to highlight your beautiful eyes.

For $6 you can purchase the Hard Candy Strobing Highlighting Duo Stick. These two work perfectly together but just as nicely on their own. Use this duo wherever you want to strobe. I like to draw a line down my nose and blend. It’s great to apply to your bottom lip in the middle to help create some depth and glow. The stick is soft and easy to use; it doesn’t wipe away your foundation or blush when you use it either. This Strobing pencil is great to throw in a clutch for a quick touch up too.

Both of these are highly impressive. Take off the name and no one would know that Walmart is your source.

HARD CANDY FIERCE EFFECT LIPSTICK

HARD CANDY FIERCE EFFECT LIPSTICK

HARD CANDY FIERCE EFFECT LIPSTICK

While 2016 is all about matte lipsticks not all of us love that look or the dryness. Matte isn’t the only trend for 2016 though for lips – fierce colors that can create many looks are just as new.

Hard Candy Fierce Effect in Chalkin Pink and Provocative

These 18 shades of lipstick give you a moist looking lip with lots of shine. You just need the lipstick, no gloss to top it off, to look like you have luscious lips. They come in 18 shades (not all are online): Chalkin Pink, Provocative, Show Off, Galactica, Newly Berried, Prowler, Glisten to Me, Thunder, Black Diamond, Slylac, Heart Breaker, Sky’s the Limit, Nudist, Seduced, Sunshine, Night Queen, Jealousy, and Virtual Reality. The pigmentation is off the wall.

Hard Candy Fierce Effect in Thunder and Slylac

Hard Candy Fierce Effect in Thunder and Slylac

Hard Candy Fierce Effect in Thunder and Slylac

There is a lot to like with the Fierce Effects lipsticks –

  • only $5 each
  • Highly pigmented shades that don’t need a second coat
  • Mix and match colors to create “fierce effects” with them
  • Easy to blend two shades together to create a new shade
  • Fierce Effects lipsticks are infused with argan oil
  • Moist and easy to apply, no need for a gloss

These are scented though but it’s not offensive to me since it’s a bubblegum fragrance and it doesn’t last too long. In spite of the fragrance I like that you can create an ombre lip or your own shade.

So 2016! Knowing Hard Candy it’s only the beginning. They’ve got 9 more months to come out with fresh, innovative products that are up to the minute and so wallet friendly. Which of these would you most want to use? — Marcia

Let’s meet Geri G (and her Transceutical™ Canvas and Innocent Foundation)

Geri Giagnorio creator of Geri G Cosmetics

Geri Giagnorio creator of Geri G Cosmetics

This beautiful woman is named Geri Giagnorio and she’s a licensed aesthetician, make-up artist, product developer and Certified Nutritional Consultant and Coach. She’s also the persona behind Geri G Skincare and Cosmetics. She has developed a line of all natural skincare and cosmetics after spending her life learning about how to put your body into a healthier state, including through nutrition.

I was introduced to Geri G Cosmetics via Wantable. The Geri G Innocent Foundation was in my December 2014 box and it amazed me then and continues to do so to this day. It is so rare for a foundation to be a perfect match in a subscription box but the lightest shade is ideal for me. This comes in 4 shades (Light, Medium, Tan and Dark) ($38).

Geri G Innocent Foundation in the lightest shade

Geri G Innocent Foundation in Light

Geri G Innocent Foundation ranks right up there with my favorite foundations. While it’s considered to be a foundation that can be sheer or built up for moderate coverage, I find it to be a medium coverage on me. I didn’t use it as much this past summer as I used it in cooler weather but I did use it. This is a water based formula that has a matte finish that looks great on my normal to dry skin. It has some wonderful ingredients that help with moisturizing. It uses Squalen Oil from olives, green tea, and white tea. Plus it contains radiant pigments that help to conceal imperfections (of which I have many) and work to illuminate my complexion.

Geri G Innocent Foundation is my most used and loved product from all the ones in my many Wantable subscription boxes. Therefore when the company offered their Transceutical™ Canvas primer for me to test I knew instantly that I wanted to explore their line more and what a great start.

Transceutical™ Canvas contains a signature formula, Nanomarine-5®, that absorbs into the skin and offers a protective barrier between the skin’s surface and the cosmetics you apply. What makes this so interesting is that they recommend that you mix this primer in with your Innocent Foundation in a 1 to 2 ratio (1 pump Transceutical™ Canvas to 2 pumps Innocent Foundation). Not only that but it’s also recommended to be used alone as the final product in your skincare regime before you go to bed and the first product you apply in the morning. This is amazingly versatile.

Geri G Transceutical Canvas

Geri G Transceutical Canvas

I haven’t been using primers much lately as I’ve been much more concerned with serums to get added skincare but using Transceutical™ Canvas is the best of both worlds. This is an anti-aging product that helps with moisturizing and healing.

When I first received it I hadn’t looked at the website to see their recommendations for use so I started using it alone on my skin and then later applying my Geri G Innocent Foundation (I now mix it though). I continued testing Transceutical™ Canvas with half a dozen other foundations and CC Creams in order to see if these two needed to be used in conjunction with each other. What I found was that they are both great on their own as well as together. Transceutical™ Canvas is also a great base for powder foundations which to me is wonderful because I have several and never hit upon the right combination before.

Geri G Transceutical Canvas ingredients

Geri G Transceutical Canvas ingredients

Geri G calls this a moisturizer, primer and cosmetic transformer all in one. Along with Nanomarine-5® complex it is Aloe-Vera based and contains vitamins A, C, and E. So we’ve got anti-aging and protection in this great product. What started out, in my mind, as a test of a primer has instead turned into a product that does so much more. It even helps foundations become water resistant.

I’m glad that the Transceutical™ Canvas has given me a chance to learn more about this great line as well as helping to make the foundation an even better product than I thought it was. Have you heard of the Geri G line before? — Marcia

Top Ten Tuesday shares our top ten primers

Top 10 Primers on Beauty Info Zone

Top 10 Primers on Beauty Info Zone

Top Ten Tuesday is back again. This week we’ve decided to share the primers that we love. I’ve gathered up 5 facial primers and 5 eyeshadow primers to share with you. I could easily have 10 of each but needed to reign myself in a little. These are the ones in current rotation. — Marcia

Facial primers

I tried to pick 5 different kind so as not to repeat myself. Let’s see how well I did.

5 favorite facial primers

5 favorite facial primers

1) B. Kamins Corrective Primerb kamins primerThe B. Kamins Corrective Primer is unique since it’s formulated with glycolic acid which is meant to help with the appearance of large facial pores. It has exfoliating properties and with time it becomes not just a primer but a treatment too. It contains rice bran for hydration. It has a silicone feel to it (contains dimethicone) so it may not be everyone’s choice but I see a smoothness when I use it that I don’t always find with other primers. For me it’s a great cool weather primer since it’s adding another layer of protection to my skin. It also mattifies my skin which is a nice change.

2. Reviva Labs Makeup Primer

Reviva Labs Makeup Primer

Reviva Labs Makeup Primer

This is a double favorite at Beauty Info Zone. Both Lisa and I both love this and don’t want to be without it. I love this because it’s a 12 month primer for me, it’s not too heavy to wear year round. This contains COQ10 (protective anti-oxidant), Olive Oil, Vitamin D3 and Vitamin A, and squalene so it’s loaded with skin goodness. This leaves me with a dewy appearance and it doesn’t take a chunk out of my wallet since the price is so reasonable.

3. Miracle Skin Transformer Vanish

MST VANISH

MST VANISH

The newest trend in cosmetic type skincare are blurring products. You’ll find them all over the drugstores now. But before they became the “in” thing there was Miracle Skin Transformer’s Vanish. It dispenses as a white silicone gel that dries down clear. It’s great for blurring imperfections. With Vanish I am comfortable using it prior to foundation application but also after. Some days I’m lucky to get out of the house with a little foundation on, with Vanish when I’m touching up later I can apply it over my foundation and get a smoother, less lined look.

4. Eddie Funkhouser Luxlight Hydrating Primer

Eddie Funkhouser Luxlight Hydrating Primer

Eddie Funkhouser Luxlight Hydrating Primer

Eddie Funkhouser has the most fun primer of all the ones I’ve chosen. It’s lightly tinted but doesn’t really add color. What it adds is hydration and glow. The ingredients are squalene, glycerin, castor seed oil, jojoba oil, Vitamins A, C, and E. It does not have that silicone feel to it and I don’t believe it contains silicone. The color is called Candlelight and that’s the glow it adds. There’s no shimmer to it so it just adds a luminosity that you’ll love. Plus it’s only $14.99.

5. Trish McEvoy Beauty Booster

Trish McEvoy Beauty Booster

Trish McEvoy Beauty Booster

Trish McEvoy Beauty Booster is my luxury primer love. I’ve been very stingy using this so my packaging is already out of date but the product is fresh as ever. It’s a 3 in 1 product which is described as an anti-fatigue cream, an enriched primer and a facial mask. It’s very creamy and feels more like a moisturizer than a primer. I have used it as a mask but I prefer it as a moisturizer/primer. At $90 I’ll just keep loving how perfect my foundation looks when I use it.

Eyeshadow primers

I wear an eyeshadow primer every day with any kind of eye makeup. I use one under creams just as much as I do under powders. An eyeshadow primer is what makes my makeup go on smoother, makes colors more vibrant and last longer. I no longer have oily lids but that’s another reason to use an eyeshadow primer.

6. LORAC BEHIND THE SCENES EYE PRIMER

Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer

Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer

I got a sample of this with a Lorac purchase and that was enough to convince me I had to buy this. It’s like a magnet for eyeshadows. If you have a shadow that doesn’t want to last, try this Lorac one.

7. MILANI EYESHADOW PRIMER

Milani Eyeshadow Primer

Milani Eyeshadow Primer

I actually reviewed this as a guest post on Prime Beauty. This is my favorite drugstore primer. It retails for $6.99 but you know there’s often a deal at CVS or Ulta so you can try this for less. It’s a light flesh color so it masks any discoloration your lids might have. Not only is it great for you, but it’s something to recommend to those new to the world of eyeshadow primers.

8. MAKE UP FOR EVER EYE PRIME

Make Up For Ever Eye Prime

Make Up For Ever Eye Prime

It was a thrill when Make Up For Ever finally brought this Eye Prime out. Even if their eyeshadows are incredibly pigmented and don’t always need a primer, other brands do. I’ve tested this eyeshadow primer with everything and I’m always happy with how long my eye makeup lasts. This is a beige cream that disappears and leaves a flawless canvas for your cosmetics.

9. EM COSMETICS EYE PRIMER

em Cosmetics Eye Primer

em Cosmetics Eye Primer

em cosmetics eye primer is my newest love. It adds luminosity without any glitter, sparkle or artifice. I was amazed at how long my shadows lasted with it and how much more oomph many of them had. I’ve noticed that em Cosmetics has lowered prices lately but this remains at $15. It’s worth that to me since the subtle white shimmer adds a wonderful brightness.

10. TOO FACED SHADOW INSURANCE aka TFSI

TFSI

TFSI

I can’t begin to count how many times I’ve bought Too Faced Shadow Insurance. It’s my go to eyeshadow primer. While others raved about Urban Decay’s Primer Potion, I remained true to TFSI. I always have one in use and a spare. I obviously dabble in other eyeshadow primers but I remain true to Too Faced. Plus I have its sister in Candlelight which is a beautiful shimmery base.

So there you have my very long list of favorites. Are any of these on your list? — Marcia

Please join my fellow Top 10ers – maybe they’ll be less wordy!

Birchbox for March and April 2013 brought some nice surprises

I’m back with two months of Birchbox. I totally forgot to report about the Birchbox March box so when I received the April box I decided to put them together. One thing I notice often is how much they mix up the boxes. One of my Makeup Wars’ blogger friends, Brooke from Blushing Noir, never seems to get what I get. Sometimes I envy her boxes, I wonder if she ever envies mine!

For March the box was called March Madness in honor of the basketball furor going on I’m sure. Since University of Michigan made it into the final game for the first time in over 20 years, I was all about March Madness. I am happy with this box for the $10 I spent and you’ll see why as you read on.

Birchbox March Madness 2013

Birchbox March Madness 2013

birchbox march card

My box contained a Blueberry Whish Shaving Cream, Nick Chavez shampoo, 2 products from MAKE (eyeshadow and primer) and as the Lifestyle Extra a floral Madewell nail file.

Contents of Birchbox for March

Contents of Birchbox for March

Opinions:

Whish: one of my favorite brands, I discovered this long ago and especially like their shaving cream. We have several reviews for Whish up on Beauty Info Zone since it’s a brand we admire. The blueberry fragrance is a little strong for me but I put it in my “possibles” bag – the bag I scour through before packing.

Nick Chavez shampoo and Whish blueberry shaving cream

Nick Chavez shampoo and Whish blueberry shaving cream

NICK CHAVEZ Color Saver sulfate-free shampoo: not excited. I get a ton of hair samples in these subscription boxes. (Maybe that’s a hint that I should drop some!) But it is good that it’s for color treated hair and it’s sulfate free.

MAKE face primer: My picture makes this look a lot bigger than it is, it’s actually quite tiny but I’ve been very interested in MAKE products and have a review for other products coming up. This is a good way for me to test out this and I’ll report more in my MAKE review.

MAKE Concrete Eyeshadow and Face Primer

MAKE Concrete Eyeshadow and Face Primer

-MAKE eyeshadow: This is teeny weeny but that’s okay when you have 2 gazillion eyeshadows. The color is called Cement so you have a good idea of what it looks like!! Cement is a matte shadow. Unfortunately it doesn’t look quite right with my other MAKE eyeshadow so it’s going to have to “make” other friends.

Make Concrete

MAKE Concrete

MADEWELL floral emery board: it’s pretty but I have my gorgeous Mont Bleu files that I prefer.

There was also a card for a free Benefit Bad Girl Lash mini if you spent $25 at benefit.com. That went in recycling.

Birchbox April 2013

Birchbox April 2013

Now for April’s Birchbox which is themed “Tiny Tweaks, Big Results”. Sometimes I need to remind myself that Birchbox is a “sample” box. Some of the samples are a decent size, but some are so small! For April there are two products I’m very happy about. The box contains Nexxus, Youngblood, Caudalie, Weleda and Strivectin.

Inside the April 2013 Birchbox

Inside the April 2013 Birchbox

OPINIONS:

NEXXUS Youth Renewal Rejuvenating Elixer: More hair goodies (but luckily no fragrance!!!!) This is a shine boosting serum that helps prevent breakage. It makes me feel bad since it’s for “aging” hair. Boo hoo, even my hair ages??

Caudalie Divine Oil, Nexxus

Caudalie Divine Oil, Nexxus Elixer

CAUDALIE Divine Oil: I’m probably one of the few people who isn’t a Caudalie follower. It’s usually too fragranced for me. This oil is meant to be used on skin, hair and nails. I might give it a chance since it gets amazing raves.

Youngblood Anti-Shine Mattifier

Youngblood Anti-Shine Mattifier

YOUNGBLOOD Anti-Shine Mattifier: Now this is a product I can give great reviews for. The only bad news is that I bought the full size one when I was in LA for the IMATS show. This is the size of a MAC eyeshadow so it might be a little hard to use but it’s a great way to see if this great product works for you and for me it can be put in my travel Z Palette.

Strivectin-SD Eye Concentrate

Strivectin-SD Eye Concentrate

STRIVECTIN-SD Eye Concentrate for Wrinkles: I always get excited about eye creams and this is one I haven’t tried so here’s the second winner in this box. Who knows when I’ll get around to it since I have a few eye creams to review but I’m really looking forward to trying this.

This month there’s also a postcard for a totally free one year subscription to Women’s Health. The value of that is $9.99 so that’s a nice extra that I’ll take advantage of.

Weleda body lotion packets

Weleda body lotion packets

For the Lifestyle Extras there are 3 packets of body lotion from WELEDA. These are great for that “possibles” bag I told you about. They are probably one use each but I like tossing things when I travel. The one fragrance going into my bag is the Pomegranate; the other two Wild Rose and Sea Buckthorn will probably be in a giveaway contest as a hidden extra.

So there you have two months of BIRCHBOX.  I like the March box a lot and I really like the April box so these were good months for me. This is my 30th month with them which means I’ve spent $300 on samples. Am I totally crazy? Shh – don’t answer that, I know that I am. Birchbox will continue for another month – which is what I say every month. Did you get any of these in your boxes? — Marcia

Disclosure: I pay for my own Birchbox but I’ve linked to my referral code which would get me points towards possible products.

For other boxes here are the ones that Blushing Noir received so you can see how different hers are: March and April.
