Anastasia Pro Brushes – you don’t know what you are missing

Anastasia Pro Brushes A10, A13, A6

Anastasia Pro Brushes A10, A13, A6

There is nothing better than having amazing eyeshadow brushes in my opinion. I’m a confessed “brushaholic” and I’m not ashamed to admit that. When Anastasia Beverly Hills told me about their Pro Brushes you better believe I was all over them. I graciously thanked them and now I’m thankfully using them.                                           samples

Anastasia Beverly Hills is a brand that’s famous because of creator Anastasia Soare’s incredible skills as a eyebrow specialist. Her first items, the ones that brought her fame, were her brow products which are still best sellers. As time passed she spread out into new areas and now Anastasia Beverly Hills is one of the innovative and popular brands that I use.

Anastasia PRO Brushes on the ABH Mario Palette

There are 12 brushes in the PRO collection, only found online at her website. They’ve created other brushes that you can find on Sephora, Ulta, Macy’s, and more but these PRO brushes are phenomenal and worth ordering them from Anastasia Beverly Hills. Without further ado let’s learn about these three brushes so you can go purchase them!

Anastasia Beverly Hills A10

Anastasia Beverly Hills A10

ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS A10 may have the look of MAC’s famous 217 brush but they aren’t the same. ABH is a better brush and that’s saying a lot considering how long I’ve been a fan of the 217.

Anastasia Beverly Hills A10

Anastasia Beverly Hills A10

ABH A10 is called the Diffuser Brush. It’s a fluffy tapered brush made with  premium goat hair. The brush is very soft and has a great amount of give but not so much that you can’t use it for just about everything. It’s recommended to use this for diffusing and shading. I find the A10 to be extremely versatile and use it for both laying down my crease shade and blending it to perfection. At $21 it will make a great extension to your collection. If you don’t have this shape brush you are really missing out!

Anastasia Beverly Hills A13

Anastasia Beverly Hills A13

Anastasia Beverly Hills A13 is their Medium Shader brush ($20). This softly domed brush is a perfect lid brush but you know it’s much more than that. Made of pony hair and blended with synthetic fibers it works very well for smaller eyes too. It’s so beautifully soft and blends pigment perfectly without kicking up powder.

Anastasia Beverly Hills A13

Anastasia Beverly Hills A13

The way I normally apply powder eyeshadow is to put on a lid shade and a brow shade before I apply color in my crease. Even though I can do all three jobs with ABH13, I prefer it for my lid and browbone areas. It blends the colors together without a line of demarcation and caresses my eye while doing so.

Anastasia Beverly Hills A6

Anastasia Beverly Hills A6

I saved my favorite for last. If I could have only one ABH Pro brush it would be Anastasia Beverly Hills A6 ($21). It’s made of premium synthetic fibers and is good for both wet and dry use. You can see a color differential in the fibers.

Anastasia Beverly Hills A6

Anastasia Beverly Hills A6

ABH Pro 6, Buff and Blend, can be used for both eyes and face. It works well with a highlighter shade but what I love it for is my eyes. This is what I feel I’ve been missing in a blending brush. I love the softness and the feel of it in my crease especially.

Anastasia Beverly Hills PRO Brushes

I don’t always buy from an artist’s website since it’s so easy to purchase from larger sites online but with free shipping at a $25 purchase I’ll be visiting there more often. I’m dying for the Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit ($40) so I know that Pro Brush A7, the Large Blender brush, is in my future.

Beauty Junkees pro Eye Brush Set has made my eyes very happy

Let me introduce you to Marcia. She is a beauty junkie no matter how you put it. Beauty products are her downfall and everyone who knows her knows it. If you ask her what excites her the most you’re going to learn that it’s anything to do with eyes:  eyeshadows, eyeliners, mascara, eyebrows, eyeshadow brushes, tweezers, eye primers. She’s like the Forrest Gump of eyes. It makes sense then that when BEAUTY JUNKEES sent Marcia some brushes to try that she’d of course grab the eyeshadow brushes out of the hands of her blog partner.

Beauty Junkees 8 piece pro Eye Set

Beauty Junkees 8 piece pro Eye Set

Beauty Junkees has created an 8 piece pro Eye Set that is the best bargain I’ve ever seen. Not only is this set only $24.97 on Amazon but Beauty Junkees has offered a 25% off coupon for all Beauty Info Zone shoppers to use one time. That means you’ll be able to get this for just $18.73. That blows my junkie mind!

Let’s see what you can get for under $19. First the 8 brushes come in a case that not only comfortably holds all 8 of these brushes but leaves you plenty of room for your eye products. All 8 brushes are labeled which is wonderful. That makes it great for beginners especially who look and wonder what the heck each of the brushes do.

pro TAPERED BLENDING BRUSH

Beauty Junkees Tapered Blending brush

Beauty Junkees Tapered Blending brush

The Tapered Blending brush does exactly what it says. Because the bristles on the brush are long and bendable they softly blend a shadow. I like it best as a finishing brush to make sure there are no harsh lines between shadow colors.

pro CREASE BRUSH

Beauty Junkees Crease brush

Beauty Junkees Crease brush

Beauty Junkees Tapered Blending and Crease brushes

Beauty Junkees Tapered Blending and Crease brushes

The Crease brush is a smaller version of the Blending brush with bristles that feel similar but because it’s a tighter, smaller head it’s perfect for applying a crease shade and blending it in. It fits into my crease perfectly.

pro ALL OVER SHADER

Beauty Junkees All Over Shader

Beauty Junkees All Over Shader

The All Over Shader is the most versatile brush in the set. I can use this for almost any job. I like it on my browbone, on my lid and as a blending brush. While the bristles aren’t labeled as far as their origin, I’ve been assured that they are all cruelty free.

pro ANGLED SHADING

Beauty Junkees Angled Shading brush

Beauty Junkees Angled Shading brush

Beauty Junkees Angled Shading and All Over Shader

Beauty Junkees Angled Shading and All Over Shader

The Angled Shading brush is similar in size and color as the All Over Shader but it’s much softer partly because the bristles are longer. It bends easily and the angle makes it great for placing color on your browbone.

pro BLENDING

Beauty Junkees Blending brush

Beauty Junkees Blending brush

I’m partial to this brush so telling you it’s my favorite in the set isn’t a problem. It looks like the MAC 217 and performs like it too. It fits in my crease perfectly and blends with ease. The Blending Brush is getting a LOT of use from me.

pro PENCIL

Beauty Junkees Pencil Brush

Beauty Junkees Pencil Brush

Beauty Junkees Pencil and Blending brushes

Beauty Junkees Pencil and Blending brushes

The Pencil brush is another dupe of a MAC brush. Great for smudging shadows or eyeliner along your eyelash line. Great for doing precision work like applying a light color by your tear duct to make your eyes lighten up.

pro FLAT DEFINER and PRECISION EYE LINER

Beauty Junkees Precision Eye Liner and Flat Definer brushes

Beauty Junkees Precision Eye Liner and Flat Definer brushes

These two thin flat brushes are made out of synthetic fibers and complement each other. The Flat Definer is what is often called a “push brush”, it’s made to push eyeshadow onto the area where your lashes meet your skin. You can tightline easily with this brush. The Precision Eye Liner is an angled brush with a smaller head that is wonderful to use with a gel eyeliner as well as with powders to sweep the color along your lashline.

Last but not least is a brush sold separately, the pro BROW BRUSH.

Beauty Junkees pro Eye Set plus pro Brow Brush

Beauty Junkees pro Eye Set plus pro Brow Brush

All the brushes in the set are sold separately. The only brush not included in the set is the Brow Brush ($10.00). This two sided brush combines the Precision Eye Liner brush with a spoolie on the other end. It’s a good addition to the set though I don’t think it’s a necessity unless you really need a spoolie.

Personally I can’t believe what a great set you can get for $24.97 and if you use this one time only code, INFOZONE, you’ll get 25% off on the set. We have another review coming up for Beauty Junkees Mini Buki set and Buki set so you may have to make a decision on when you use that coupon code since it’s a one time redemption. But you are going to want to use it because your eyes won’t believe what they see and feel with Beauty Junkees.  –  Marcia

Favorite brushes from IT Cosmetics and Eddie Funkhouser

If you read my recent Guilty Pleasures article then you know I’m an eyeshadow geek. The more the merrier. Well that’s how I feel about makeup brushes. I have a great collection of brushes with my eye brushes getting the most use. Today I’m sharing two brushes from IT Cosmetics and 3 from Eddie Funkhouser that you should know about.

IT Cosmetics eyebrow and eyeliner brushes, Eddie Funkhouser eyeshadow brushes

IT Cosmetics eyebrow and eyeliner brushes, Eddie Funkhouser eyeshadow brushes

Both IT Cosmetics and Eddie Funkhouser are cruelty free companies that are high up on the list of companies that I like to buy from. All of these (except 1 EF brush that was sent) are purchases that I made and use all the time.

It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Build A Brow and It Cosmetics Tightlining 10-in-1 Dual Ended brush

It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Build A Brow and It Cosmetics Tightlining 10-in-1 Dual Ended brush

When I saw that IT Cosmetics had created gel eyeliner, Liner Love, I absolutely had to have it. I ordered it in Silk Taupe from Ulta and also ordered their Tightliner 10-in-1 Dual Ended Brush ($24). I’d been looking for a new gel eyeliner brush and this is so different that I knew I needed it in my life. Little did I know that if I’d bought these two at QVC I’d have saved a lot of money since the duo is $29 (right now $26.48) there. That’s the only mistake I made since both of these are wonderful. This Dual Ended Brush has one end that has grooves in it. This is meant to be used for tightlining since you start at the root of your lashes and wiggle it, sweeping through to the tips of your lashes. It’s pretty amazing. Since Liner Love is waterproof it’s a great, long lasting look for me. The rounded tip is used to create a line along either lashline. The reason it’s called 1o-in-1 is that it comes with a brochure that shows 10 eye looks with the brush.

I learned my lesson when I saw that one of my Makeup Wars sister blogs had bought IT Cosmetics Build A Brow along with their Build A Brow Waterproof Eyebrow Gel Stain at QVC. This duo is $30 (now $27.36) which is almost half the price of buying each separately. I bought the set in Dark Brown and then went back and bought it in Universal Taupe since they are both amazing. I use my IT Build a Brow brush with any powder or cream eyebrow product. What I love about this brush is that you really get to the roots of your brows. My brows are very sparse and have lost most of their fullness. I no longer can just touch up, I need to build up and the amazing comb like bristles do that job without mess. The spoolie on the opposite end is the cherry on top.

Eddie Funkhouser Tapered Shadow Brush, Contour Eye Brush, All Over Eye Brush

Eddie Funkhouser Tapered Shadow Brush, Contour Eye Brush, All Over Eye Brush

I’ve written about Eddie Funkhouser brushes previously. I had bought three brushes and even though I’d paid for all three, I didn’t realize until later that they either didn’t send the Contour Eye Brush or I’d tossed it in error. When Eddie Funkhouser found out he didn’t want me to be upset so he kindly sent me one to complete my trio. I know I’m just one of his many girlfriends but I can tell I’m as special in his life as he is in mine.

All Eddie Funkhouser brushes are “Artisanal quality crafted brush, featuring hand-scored premium hair, expertly-sculpted head integrated with premium aluminum ferrule and hardwood handles painted with hard-as-nails, multi-layered high-gloss black lacquer.”  The three I have aren’t small brushes, the heads are larger than I expected them to be but the quality is perfect.

left Eddie Funkhouser Contour Eye Brush and All Over Eye Brush, top right Contour, bottom right Tapered Shadow

The Contour Eye Brush ($10.49*) and the All Over Eye Brush ($8.99) are very similar. The Contour is angled while the All Over is perfectly rounded. The heads of these are 1/2 inch in length and just a little bit wider. These are amazingly soft and have the right amount of firmness to them. The Eye Contour brush is the angled one, it’s softly rounded and is a great tool for the crease of your lid plus it helps blend shadows out when you want a smokey eye. Eddie Funkhouser calls the All Over Eye Brush a medium size brush that helps distribute color evenly with its fluffy head. It can be used on your face too to add highlight. I’m not sure you need both brushes but I don’t know which one you shouldn’t get because they are both so nice to use. I’m happy to have them both.

The Tapered Shadow Brush is much bigger in size than I expected. It’s too big for me to be precise with it but it’s great for blending on my smaller eyes. I also use this under my eyes for a light coat of powder to set my concealer and it’s perfect for me there. The tapering is slight and it feels more rounded to me. It’s looser than the other two brushes so it’s better for me for blending. I think the brush is $10.99 but it’s currently sold out.

Two great companies and five excellent brushes help make my obsession with eye products more complete. If you are looking for some perfection in your life, check these out. If you have these, let me know what you think. — Marcia

Makeup Geek browns: Beaches and Cream, Hipster, Mocha, Pretentious

Have you tried Makeup Geek Eyeshadows yet?  If not, I really don’t know what you are waiting for.  Marlena, the stunningly gorgeous force behind Makeup Geek, sent us some eyeshadows and some brushes to test.  Spoiler alert:  these products are fantastic and inexpensive.

Today’s post is all about four beautiful brown eyeshadows and three eyeshadow brushes from her collection.

Makeup Geek eyeshadows

Make Up Geek eyeshadows

Marlena’s cosmetics line is just as fabulous as her amazing tutorials.  Makeup Geek eyeshadows are affordable (pans are $5.99, also available in a compact for $7.99), and there are 68 gorgeous colors from which to choose.  The pans are the exact same size as MAC eyeshadows but definitely less expensive.  Makeup Geek eyeshadow pans fit into MAC palettes, although I use my Z Palettes (which you can also buy at Makeup Geek’s store).

The texture of these eyeshadows is silky smooth and creamy.  The pigmentation is perfection, and they blend like a dream.  Plus the color doesn’t fade or crease throughout the day, even with oily eyelids.  I adore these eyeshadows.  Great price, great texture, great application, great color selection — it doesn’t get any better than this.

Beaches and Cream

Beaches and Cream

Beaches and Cream swatch

Beaches and Cream swatch

Beaches and Cream is a slightly peachy soft beige.  It’s a buttery soft matte shade that is an essential neutral for your collection.  It works as an all over wash for a pretty neutral look.  I reach for it all the time to blend and soften other shades, or as a lid shade paired with a deep brown crease color.

Hipster

Hipster

Hipster is a slightly shimmery sandy tan shade.  The shimmer makes it a fantastic lid shade, and it’s particularly powerful for deep-set or hooded eyes.

Mocha

Mocha

Mocha is a deep matte brown shade with a slight red undertone.  It is a great shade – I love using this to contour eyes and as a liner.

Pretentious

Pretentious is a stunning metallic bronze shade.  This golden brown is so gorgeous…it is perfect as a lid or crease shade.

With all these beautiful eyeshadows, a girl needs some great eyeshadow brushes too, right?  I am truly impressed with Marlena’s extremely affordable high quality brushes.  All of them have synthetic bristles and are cruelty-free.  They also feature a bronze gunmetal ferrule that holds the bristles in place and keeps the brush from shedding.

Makeup Geek Soft Dome Brush

Makeup Geek Soft Dome Brush

Soft Dome Brush

Soft Dome Brush

The Soft Dome Brush ($7.99) is what you want for blending harsh lines or applying a small amount of color.    The bristles are very soft so they don’t pick up much shadow, but they are firm enough to soften and blend.  It buffs out crease shades beautifully.   The handle is 6.5″ long, making it perfect for doing eye work.

Makeup Geek Outer V Brush

Makeup Geek Outer V Brush

Outer V Brush

Outer V Brush

The Outer V Brush ($7.99) is meant for applying eyeshadow to the outer corner of the eye, but that’s certainly not the only thing I use it for.  The small dome brush has soft, dense bristles that pick up color beautifully.  The brush length is 6.25″, a great size for close up work.  I use it for the brow, crease, outer v, lid…it is definitely a work horse brush.

Makeup Geek Pencil Brush

The Pencil Brush ($7.99) is currently out of stock and scheduled to return in Mid-July 2014.  When it does, you will want to get one for  yourself.  This is one of the best pencil brushes I have ever tried.  The bristles are stiff enough for precise lines, but also soft enough for blending out liner and eyeshadow.  Also, at 6.25″ it really is the perfect length.

Here is my EOD using my three eyeshadow brushes and with Makeup Geek Hipster as my lid shade, Pretentious in the crease, Mocha in the outer v, and Beaches and Cream on the brow.  I lined with Mocha and with Mystic Gel Eyeliner (reviewed HERE).

Do yourself and your cosmetics collection a favor and check out the selection at Makeup Geek.  I know you will find tons of must-have items!  – Lisa
