Two items started me on my Eddie Funkhouser journey – the Quattro Variable Lash Mascara and the Ultra Definition Eye Lining Stylus so I had to include these in this giveaway.
QUATTRO VARIABLE LASH MASCARA has been raved about over and over on Beauty Info Zone. It’s quite unique since there are 4 levels you can use to make your lashes your best. Just twist the wand to get the amount of coverage you want. I keep it on 2 for daily use and 3 for special times.

Ultra Definition Eye Lining Stylus changed my eyeliner life. Until I used this liner I almost always used a gel eyeliner but once I realized how smooth, smudge free, and easy to use this liner was I didn’t turn back. I’ve used up 2 already, that’s how much I love this. The brush is tapered making it easy to create a thin line or a thicker one if you prefer.

Black and blue with Chella Eyeliner Pen

One of the latest entries into the felt tip eyeliner world is the Chella Cosmetics Eyeliner Pen ($24). Not only is this a long-wearing easy to use eyeliner, it also comes is really cool new color:  Indigo Blue.

the Chella Eyeliner Pen

The felt tip applicator is longer than any I have ever tried, which makes this liner extremely easy to use. Complicated and artistic lining is just about as easy as the basics because the liner is so user-friendly. The liner is also very long wearing and doesn’t crack or fade all day.

And just look at that beautiful bright Indigo Blue! It is really flattering and makes your eyes just POP. My favorite look is an Indigo Blue cats eye with neutral matte eyeshadow and a blackened waterline.I love it.

Definitely try out the Chella  Eyeliner Pen, particularly in Indigo Blue. These eyeliners are the ultimate felt tip liners.  – Lisa

Why I will never wear Essence Stays Liquid Eyeliner again

I guess it’s my fault since the name of this eyeliner says it all – ESSENCE STAYS no matter what – and on the same line it says 24h.

Essence Cosmetics STAYS Liquid Eyeliner pen

Essence Cosmetics STAYS Liquid Eyeliner pen

This is a black liquid eyeliner pen with a long marker type stylus. In almost invisible letters it says “waterproof eyeliner pen”. The problem is that it doesn’t want to come off with any type of remover. I started with Mary Kay’s eyemakeup remover that gets everything off for me. It removed my eye makeup but I still saw black lines. Ok, it’s waterproof so I’ll try Philosophy Release since that’s terrific for anything I’ve put it through. No thank you says Essence. I’m not leaving.

Essence Stays stylus

Essence Stays stylus

By now I’m frustrated and cotton pads and q-tips drenched in remover aren’t removing the stain on my lashline. I have a small bottle of Bobbi Brown waterproof eye makeup remover and thought that would be the ticket. You can guess by now that it wasn’t. Even this morning after a shower and more tries I still have a stained line.

In my youth this would have been my favorite eyeliner. I would have loved waking up to eyeliner on and I doubt I’d have tried to remove it. I have a wonderful niece who loves that sooty look so she may want this. But I want to go to sleep with all my makeup removed and I want to wake up to a clean visage to start the day anew.

Youngblood Eye-Mazing Liquid Liner Pen – the name says it all

Eye-Mazing Liquid Liner Pens from http://www.ybskin.com/

Eye-Mazing Liquid Liner Pens from http://www.ybskin.com/

Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics is a brand to turn to when you want natural luxury mineral cosmetics without any of the common irritants that are found in OTC cosmetics. They are known for their purity and for their lack of ingredients that can be harmful for your skin. Youngblood has won awards for products like their foundation (Best Foundation” (Beauty Launchpad) and “Best Mineral Blush” (NewBeauty). Now I am about to give Youngblood an award too. Their brand new Eye-Mazing Liquid Liner Pens win my award for Amazing Liquid Eyeliner!

I’ve been searching up and down the makeup aisles in drugstores, department stores and online for the perfect brown liquid eyeliner. What I didn’t know is that until April 1, 2014 this liquid eyeliner wouldn’t be for sale. To my delight Youngblood sent all 5 of their new Eye-Mazing Liquid Liner Pens to test and review and in that group I found “the one”. I have a lot of liquid eyeliners yet to write about but I couldn’t let that stop me from announcing my winner.

Youngblood Eye-Mazing Liquid Liner Pen

Youngblood Eye-Mazing Liquid Liner Pen

Let’s go back and find out what these 5 eyeliners are all about.  The Eye-Mazing Liquid Liner Pen is available in five colors: Noir (Black), Marrón (Brown), Gris (Gray), Verde (Forest Green) and Azul (Blue). The liners have a thin magic marker type stylus that is firm without being too hard. The colors are beautiful. The best part is that not only do they glide on but they have great staying power. These last me the entire day even on my bottom lashline. Since my eyes water sometimes that can be a trick but I’ve had amazing luck with these over the last month that I’ve been wearing them.

Youngblood Liquid Liner in Azul, Gris, Noir, Verde and Marron

Youngblood Liquid Liner in Azul, Gris, Noir, Verde and Marron

Marrón is the first of these eyeliners that I tried and it absolutely blew me away. I’ve got a cup full of brown liquid eyeliners. I have none that match the perfection of Marrón. Not only is this a perfect brown but it doesn’t bleed, it’s not watery and it lasts for me. The texture of the brush is just what I like since it is firm and never skips.

The black shade, Noir, is an extremely dark black and is the only one that is a little bit stubborn to remove. It doesn’t stain but it’s so black that I have to hold my eye makeup remover on my eye a little longer with Noir.

Gris and Noir comparison

Gris and Noir comparison

Gris is wonderful because it’s almost impossible to find a soft gray eyeliner and even more impossible with a liquid liner. You can deepen the color by going over it several times or you can leave it as soft as you want.

Verde

Verde

Verde is a very dark forest green that can look black in some lights. But put it with the right eye makeup and you’ll see the green without being hit in the face by it. A dark green is another eyeliner that can be difficult to find in the perfect shade yet Youngblood has done it.

Azul is the only bright shade in the group. It’s not navy, it’s more of a bright cobalt blue giving you that pop of color that looks particularly great in spring and summer.

Verde, Gris, Marron, Azul, Noir

Verde, Gris, Marron, Azul, Noir

More things to love about Youngblood’s Eye-Mazing Liquid Liners: It’s easy to do a cat-eye with these because of the firmness of the brush. These are smudge-proof and water resistant. They are vegan and paraben free. And the most important thing in my book is that I’ve found the winner of my quest for the best brown liquid eyeliner. All the colors are fabulous and winners in their own right. Congratulations to Youngblood for creating these champs. — Marcia

A trio of e.l.f. liquid eyeliners

e.l.f. Liquid Eyeliners

e.l.f. Liquid Eyeliners

e.l.f. Cosmetics makes four types of liquid eyeliners. These are the perfect starting point for those of you who want to try liquid liners without a major outlay in price. They aren’t the perfect liquid eyeliners but they are pretty darn good.

There’s not much you can buy for $1 these days other than gum and candy but e.l.f. is known for their dollar products. They even have the Essentials Liquid Eyeliner. This comes in 7 colors – black, coffee, midnight, plum, silver, stardust, and copper.

e.l.f. Essentials Liquid Eyeliner in coffee

e.l.f. Essentials Liquid Eyeliner in coffee

I bought this in Coffee and I like that it’s a great brown shade. What I don’t like is that the handle is so short that it’s hard to apply the liner so I always get it on my eyelashes. I keep a wet q-tip ready but it still seems to clump my lashes together. As you can see my brush is a little wonky but I don’t think that’s the problem.

e.l.f. Essentials Liquid Eyeliner in coffee

e.l.f. Essentials Liquid Eyeliner in coffee

For $2 you can buy the Essentials Waterproof Eyeliner Pen. This is one of the first e.l.f. products I ever tried and I was pretty impressed by it. It comes in 8 colors – black, coffee, midnight,  hunter green, purple, plum, ash, and teal. At $2 you can’t go wrong. I really like the tip of this particular eyeliner pen because it’s like a felt tip marker yet it’s not too fat.

e.l.f. Essentials Waterproof Eyeliner Pen in hunter green and coffee

The tip is especially easy to use because it’s firm and doesn’t flop around. The only downside to these is that they will dry out more quickly than some liquids do. Be sure you keep it closed tightly to prevent that. I always have to shake mine before use so that means I’m shaking it 4 times when I’m doing my eyes (top and bottom for both eyes). For 2 bucks I can shake!

e.l.f. Essentials Waterproof Eyeliner Pen in coffee and hunter green

e.l.f. Essentials Waterproof Eyeliner Pen in coffee and hunter green

The next time I did an e.l.f. haul I found that they had a liquid eyeliner in their Studio Line for $3. I think I can deal with that.

e.l.f. Studio Precision Liquid Eyeliner

e.l.f. Studio Precision Liquid Eyeliner

The Studio Precision Liquid Eyeliner only comes in black. I’m on a quest for the perfect brown liner but that didn’t stop me since I’ve been using only liquid liners of late. This has a floppy brush and has a shorter tube than the Essential so it’s a little harder to grip. I like the liner since it’s a very deep black and it lasts quite well but it’s not going to make it to the finals of my competition. The price puts it ahead but the brush is a little too unsturdy for me.

The fourth liner is one I didn’t realize existed until I was getting links for this review. It’s the e.l.f. Essential Triple Tip Waterproof Eyeliner Pen. The tip of this looks especially interesting, similar to the Too Faced 3*Way Lash Lining Tool which costs $22. It’s only $2 though and comes in both black and brown but the reviews make it sound pretty bad. If you look at the site you can see the three tips but people are complaining that they are getting one tip. Have you tried this particular one? Should I consider it for my next e.l.f. haul??

e.l.f. Essentials Triple Tip Liner

e.l.f. Essentials Triple Tip Liner

Now that you’ve seen my trio of e.l.f. liquid eyeliners I’ll award them their “medals”. The gold would go to the $2 Essentials Waterproof Pen, the silver would go to the $3 Precision Liquid Eyeliner and the bronze to the $1 Essentials Liquid Liner. I’m not sure any of these will advance to the finals although the Essentials Waterproof Eyeliner Pen has a chance.

e.l.f. is a good line to experiment with. Some of their products are absolute winners, some are losers, but your wallet won’t be hurt and that’s a bonus. — Marcia

June busted out all over with Wantable.com

Wantable.com June box

Wantable.com June box

If you’ve been paying attention (which I’m sure you have) then you’ve noticed that I haven’t really reviewed any subscription boxes lately. My friend Lola always calls me the Queen of Subscription but I’m giving back the tiara and just going to be part of the Ladies in Waiting instead. I’m not giving them up cold turkey though – that’s impossible – but I’m sticking with my favorites and Wantable.com is my favorite. Let me introduce you to the June 2013 Wantable.com subscription box.

Wantable.com summary sheet

Wantable.com summary sheet (click to enlarge)

There are a few important things to know about Wantable.com. First it’s one of the more expensive boxes but I’ve yet to be disappointed ($36 a month with a subscription, $40 if you just want one box). Each box is different, each box has brought me new brands, each box is tailored to me. Second, just like I said the boxes are tailor made. You fill in a very complete profile, which you can change at any time, and get items that you want to get. For example I said I don’t want bronzers (I may change my mind on that) so I haven’t gotten any bronzers. I also said I don’t want eyebrows. But I did say I wanted nail polish, eyeshadow, blush etc and could specify tones. If you want to switch your box to a Jewelry box one month you can easily do that.

Here are the delights I received in my June subscription:

Manna Kadar Gloss Ware Long Lasting Lipgloss in Nibble – a beautiful light rose pink that’s just my style. It reminds me a lot of a MAC lipglass. (value $19)

Manna Kadar Gloss Ware in Nibble

FACE Stockholm Cream Highlighter in Radiance – I’ve actually got this in the shade Dignity which is a golden shade while Radiance is a light pink. We love FACE Stockholm on Beauty Info Zone so this was a pleasant surprise. (value $25)

FACE Stockholm Cream Highlighter in Radiance

Be A Bombshell Eyeliner in Espresso – this is a brand that you’ll find in several of the subscription series which isn’t a negative. It’s a great brand. I’m loving this liquid liner because it doesn’t run at all. It doesn’t say it’s waterproof but it lasts like it is. It’s easy to apply and there’s no fear that it’s going to drip. As much as I love the colors of some other brands they’ll sometimes make my eyelashes stick together but this one doesn’t. Plus the brown is truly brown and not a black/brown. (value $14)

Lise Watier Ombre Souffle Supreme in Vert Enchante – I died and went to heaven! 1) Lise Watier!! 2) I love these souffle type shadows that are like the Armani and Chanel ones 3) It’s a gorgeous green silver shade. I’ve been drooling over the reviews that Pink Sith and Perilously Pale have done for Lise Watier and now it’s M.I.N.E. (value $24)

In addition there’s a nail polish from KnockOut Cosmetics that’s a Flatte Polish (aka matte) in LiLi. I think I’ll wear it matte/flatte at first and later add a top coat. It’s a beautiful summery lilac. (value $14)

Individually these would cost $96 but I pay $36 per month for my subscription. Did I get my money’s worth? Absolutely. I’ve used the eyeliner, gloss and Lise Watier eyeshadow already, I’m looking forward to trying the nail polish. I will either use the highlighter or use it for a giveaway since it’s so close to what I own already but I think it’s wonderful. The products that Wantable used in their various boxes this month were chosen by Lara Eurdolian from Pretty Connected. Other boxes could have also contained 3CC, Besame, Susan Posnick; all fabulous reliable brands that you want in your makeup wardrobe.

My tiara is off but Wantable is in. Would you want these products? — Marcia

DISCLOSURE: I have purchased my boxes myself but Wantable has just started a referral link that could earn me $1 if you sign up for emails, $9 if you subscribe. This is my link and I’d appreciate it if you’d use it if you decide this box looks interesting to you. Thank you so much. https://www.wantable.com/invite/1DV7tjqbktQ
