Two things drew me to The Jojoba Company Cucumber & Guava Firming Eye Balm when it was offered for review. I was immediately drawn to it because of The Jojoba Company which is a skincare brand I admire and have reviewed several items from. I have a collection of products which often get used no matter what else I’m testing. Next take the fact that it’s a FIRMING EYE BALM and I’m all over it.

I am a dedicated eye cream user, day and night. I think being so enamored with eye creams and balms has helped my eyes belie my age. The Jojoba Company Cucumber & Guava Firming Eye Balm is one that definitely helps this way because it’s known for rehydrating dry skin. Once upon a time my skin was oily as could be but age has changed that.

I have pros and cons about this eye cream but the pros way outweigh the cons.

  • The Jojoba Company Cucumber & Guava Firming Eye Balm contains many efficient ingredients to soothe the delicate skin around my eyes: cucumber, guava, aloe vera, jojoba, and pomegranate.
  • It feels wonderful on my eyes and a little goes a long way. I’ve used it both on my lids and undereyes with emphasis on those pesky crows feet. I notice less puffiness especially in the morning when I awake. My eye area feels very soft. And I’m using way less concealer.
  • I love the packaging. It’s so sanitary and I get the right amount for both eyes with one gentle pump.

The Jojoba Company grows their own jojoba so we know there’s a purity in the products that can be relied upon. According to The Jojoba Company “That means that skin lets jojoba deliver its goodness all the way down to the cellular and matrix levels. It is naturally antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and hypoallergenic.  Jojoba also contains the healing vitamins A, D and E and Omega 6 and 9 essential fatty acids. Jojoba does not oxidize and is very stable.”jojoba co eye balm ingredients

My con? You know I’m not a fan of fragrance and it takes me about 15 minutes before I don’t notice it. But you know what? I can tolerate it for that short amount of time since I love the effects of this eye balm. I doubt most of you would notice it but I’m extra sensitive. The fragrance does make me aware that it’s working its magic on me.

Key Ingredients:

  • Pure Australian Jojoba – antioxidant, rich in Vitamins A, D & E, hydrating
  • Cucumber – soothing
  • Green Tea – antioxidant, visibly reduces puffiness
  • Guava – age defying
  • Vitamins E & B – antioxidants
  • Horsetail Extract – stimulates collagen production
  • Pomegranate – promotes skin elasticity

It’s time you got on the wagon and tried out The Jojoba Company’s products. I’m testing a new serum from them that has convinced me even more that it’s a brand you want to have in your life.  —  Marcia

Top 10 Tuesday picks favorite eye creams

Give me eye cream now! Give me eye balm immediately! Give me eye serums ASAP. If it’s for the delicate eye area I want it. I’ve reviewed a lot of eye creams so picking just 10 (or 9 as you’ll see) was extremely difficult. Some came to mind instantly because I’m either using them or I’ve bought them again. Others are ones I really enjoyed but picking between them was a difficult choice. My Top Ten are ones I would recommend without a doubt so let’s see what they are:

1. ALGENIST EYE RENEWAL BALM –  I’m on my second jar of the Algenist plus I’ve used up some sample sizes. This is the first eye cream I thought of when we picked this topic. I chose this for my desert island Beauty Spotlight Team and I’d chose it again.

2. KATE SOMERVILLE KateCeuticals MULTI-ACTIVE EYE CREAM – Kate Somerville makes more than one eye cream. I’m sure they are all wonderful but this one is the most wonderful. My eyes drank this up and begged for more. If you are looking for true anti-aging properties, splurge on this.

3. SOMME INSTITUTE EYE – I’ve repurchased every product from Somme Institute. At first I didn’t repurchase EYE but as soon as I was done with it, I missed it. Even though it doesn’t contain SPF it’s one of my favorite daytime eye creams. It’s lightweight and concealer doesn’t crease when I mix it with Somme Eye. Watch for this on Hautelook.

4. SENNA LIFT AND LIGHTEN EYE CREAM – It’s been four years since I reviewed this Senna Eye Cream but I haven’t forgotten it. I bought a second jar at IMATS because I love how it lightens my dark circles and hydrates under my eyes. Plus it’s still only $28 even after all this time.

5. YBF CORRECT – Simple name, not so simple protect. Your Best Face (YBF) tells you succinctly what their products will do and then they prove it by doing research and using the best ingredients to make sure their products work. Correct works!

6. YES TO BLUEBERRIES EYE FIRMING TREATMENT – This is my latest eye cream. I’ve been using it daily for about 6 weeks and I can’t bring myself to move on. It totally surprised me since I’m not a mass market skincare person in general but this has kept my eyes looking less lined, my dark circles at bay and has rid me of morning puffiness. For $15-20 (depending on where you buy it) this is a must to try.

7. LIFT LAB LIFT & FIRM EYE CREAM – The gel like texture of Lift Lab’s Eye Cream is very soothing. It’s lightweight and you don’t even realize you have it on during the daytime. What you will realize is how soft the skin around your eyes feels and how your puffiness isn’t really noticeable.

8. EXUVIANCE AGE REVERSE EYE CONTOUR – The name tells you one of the reasons I like this. I won this in a giveaway almost 4 years ago and wish I had it again. My memory is short when it comes to “why did I come into this room” but not on eye creams. It helps firm the collagen around eyes. I need this again.

9. DERMAdoctor WRINKLE REVENGE RESCUE & PROTECT EYE BALM – This does it all. It moisturizes, firms, reduces puffiness, helps eliminate dark circles, helps with fine lines and bakes cookies. Ok, I’m kidding about the cookies but it would if it could. It’s thicker than most of the others I’ve mentioned but sometimes you need that.

10. EYES by TO GO SPA EYE MASKS – I’m cheating. I can’t help it. When you need a way to make your eyes look less lined and more relaxed you want something like an eye mask. I’ve tried and loved quite a few but I always go back to EYES by ToGoSpa. They now have 3 varieties and it’s hard to pick which you want but you won’t go wrong with any of them. These are collagen eye masks that you want any time you want to look your best.

Algenist Eye Renewal Balm – desert island worthy

Algenist Eye Renewal Balm

Slowly but surely Algenist is creeping into my heart and pushing other skincare loves aside. This brand has become a favorite with its patented ingredient Alguronic Acid  ” Alguronic Acid®is the tradename for a never-before-seen biotechnology discovery from a team of scientists in San Francisco. Alguronic Acid is a powerful regenerative compound produced by a specific and unique strain of microalgae that functions to protect and regenerate the single-celled organism in the harshest environments and conditions on the planet.”

Algenist Eye Renewal Balm

I’m currently using the Algenist Eye Renewal Balm and finding it meets all my eye care needs. This fragrance-free balm is moisturizing yet never greasy. It sinks into my skin pretty quickly allowing me to apply concealer over it without a problem. I prefer to use this at night to give it time to work its magic. It makes my undereye area feel soft and I notice the lessening of fine lines and crow’s feet. I use it in the morning on the days that I really haven’t gotten much sleep since I need the extra benefit then of getting rid of the puffiness and dark circles that I wake up to.

The Algenist Eye Renewal Balm has all sorts of wonderful goodies in it like advanced skin bioactives that include caffeine, vitamin C, cucumber extract as well as alguronic acid.

ingredients

It comes in a .5 oz jar for $65 and it’s worth every penny. Even using this for 2 months I’ve barely made a dent in it. I expect the jar to last me 6-8 months of nightly use.  I’ve purchased much more expensive eye creams/balms from LaMer, Chanel and Estee Lauder and they haven’t come close to the results I see using this Algenist Eye Renewal. I know that there is a lot of controversy about using products in jars but I don’t see how this could be packaged any other way. The balm is so thick and rich that you’d lose half of it squeezing it out of a tube. I either use a small plastic spatula or break off the fuzzy part of a q-tip to get the product out. I can clean the spatula off or just toss the q-tip when done so it isn’t contaminating the product.

Do yourself a favor and start to experience Algenist’s skincare line. I’m obviously not the only person to love this line. This year, Algenist was chosen as the recipient of the Rising Star Award during the QVC Customer Choice Beauty Awards. The Rising Star award honors a new vendor that has launched on QVC and had quickly gathered customer loyalty and support. I’ve got 4 products that I’m using all the time (Targeted Deep Wrinkle Minimizer, Ultra Lightweight UV Defense Fluid SPF 50, Overnight Restorative Cream and Eye Renewal Balm). Plus I even took this Eye Balm as one of my desert island products, it can get more HG than that!

I’d love to hear about other Algenist products you think I should try. I know there’s more room in my heart for them. — Marcia

Now what’s missing? I’ve primed, I’ve colored, I’ve lashed, I’ve lined and I’ve made sure that under my eyes the dark circles are concealed. But without eye cream it would all be a waste. I would be lost without my eye cream and I’d be lost without my latest love DERMAdoctor Wrinkle Revenge, rescue & protect eye balm.  I’m notoriously fickle with eye creams and have half a dozen opened and unfinished but that’s not the case with this one. I’m so close to finishing it up and even though I have a slew of unopened ones and a slew of half used ones, DERMAdoctor Wrinkle Revenge, rescue & protect eye balm (whew a mouthful) is getting repurchased.

This is my second product from DERMAdoctor and won’t be my last. Gorilla Warfare is a staple for me and I’ve already repurchased it; Rescue & Protect Eye Balm will also become a staple. I use the DERMAdoctor just about every night. I have two bathrooms since my husband and I are polar opposites when it comes to sleep. I do my nighttime regime in my smaller bathroom so I can pat and play to my heart’s content. The DERMAdoctor lives in that bathroom. But some mornings I wake up and see the ravages that insomnia and left behind so I’ll scurry to that room and put on this eye balm. I know this eye balm is doing its magic when I’m sleeping but using it in the morning proves it.

Wrinkle Revenge, rescue & protect eye balm works on dark circles and puffiness. It also moisturizes and firms and helps all the fine lines. If my age is going to show, it’s going to be because I haven’t taken care of the delicate skin around my eyes therefore I need to protect that area – with DERMAdoctor.

(Oops, forgot to take a picture when new, but you can see how well loved it is.)

DERMAdoctor gets its name from the dermatologist who created the line and tests the line, Dr. Audrey Kunin. All their products are dermatologist and opthamologist tested and approved. They use no fragrance or dyes and they never animal test.

This is a brand I need and therefore I think you need! The eye balm is $48 and has lasted me for the last 4 months and has at least another 2 months left to it. My eyes are worth the $100 a year this will cost me and yours should be too. — Marcia
