Summer fun with nails

This week for Makeup Wars we are sharing some favorite polishes for summer. This was actually a last minute decision for the group so I gathered pictures of the polishes I’ve been wearing up until today to share with you. None of the ones I’ve been wearing are new but they are ones I love and hope you do too.

COLOR CLUB HALO HUES in MISS BLISS

The Halo Hues polish collections are fabulous polishes. Not only do they wear beautifully but they are more holographic than any other polish brand I’ve ever bought.

Color Club Miss Bliss on Polarbelle’s blog

In 2013 I did a guest post for Polarbelle and wore this polish and I’m wearing it now as I type.

It’s still available on ebay and if you love shiny pink holo nails then you’ll adore this polish.

INGLOT MAMMA MIA (number 220)

I wore this over the July 4th weekend and everyone loved not only how pretty it is but how it fit the holiday. I swear I saw it for sale but I can’t find it now. But if you can get your hands on it, it’s a stunner with beautiful shimmer.

I need to get my hands on some Inglot Nail Enamel now that I’ve seen how perfectly this wore for a week.

LILLIAN EVE NAVY BEEN BETTER

Lillian Eve is a small indie nail company with a tiny collection right now. I’ve had Navy Been Better for a long time and finally got around to wearing it around Memorial Day.

Lillian Eve Navy Been Better

I gravitate towards blues like this, it’s not really navy except in certain lights. It’s very satiny and wore perfectly for a week with just a bit of wear where it wraps around the nail.

CND BECKONING BEGONIA VINYLUX

When I was moving I wanted a polish that would last 2 weeks so I turned to CND Vinylux. Beckoning Begonia has an infinitesimal amount of shimmer to it. It looks a little more shimmery in the bottle than on my nails. So while I was disappointed in that, I wasn’t disappointed in the way this lasted through packing and unpacking 1,234,567 boxes.

ESSIE ARUBA BLUE

I can’t tell you how many weeks I sat and looked at Aruba Blue in the nail polish racks of my nail tech. Finally I had to wear it. It’s fitting for my affinity for blue and this made me wish I was back in Aruba.

LAUREN B ROSE BOWL

Last but not least is Lauren B Rose Bowl because I love red all year long. This is another brand that is fabulous and Rose Bowl is a perfect example of the beauty of their polishes.

I’m ready for more pastels now and I have a set of Julie G polishes waiting in the wings for my next nail polish post. I can’t wait to wear them. What’s on your agenda for polish this summer?  —  Marcia

3 perfect bold nail polishes for spring

This spring, neutrals take a step back as the trend is for some eye-popping bright nail shades. Here are my three picks for fabulous color that won’t break the bank – you can either pull them from your collection, or else find them online at Beyond Polish for less than $6 each.

Getting colorful!

Getting colorful!

1.  Lots of Lux  How about some bright, shimmery lapis lazuli blue from Essie’s 2013 Encrusted Treasures Collection?  This is a beautiful blue textured polish with gold, pink, green, and blue glitter. If you aren’t a fan of the texture, put a clear topcoat over it.   That makes the blue a little deeper and intensifies the gorgeousness! Lots of Lux is an absolutely fascinating shade that is in the dictionary as the antonym for ‘boring’. Choose this one if you really want to go bold this season.

2.  Bikini so Teeny  This beautiful cornflower blue is from the Essie 2012 Bikini so Teeny Collection. See the tiny blue silver micro-shimmer? It’s so pretty, but it’s actually it’s almost not even noticeable when applied. Regardless, the color is fantastic – incredibly flattering, I literally had people stop me to ask the name of the shade. I like it best with three very thin coats.

3.  Your Hut or Mine  is from the Essie 2011 Fair Game Resort Collection. This deep pink-sorta salmon shade with shimmer is just perfect for this spring. The shimmer makes the color different – it reflects sort of blue, then sort of gold, then sort of pink…it’s fascinating, a polish you can just get lost in.

3 perfect spring neutral nail polishes from Essie

I absolutely love neutral nails and I’ve found some excellent spring-worthy choices at the online nail polish mecca Beyond Polish. They sent three perfect shades for kicking out the polar vortex and welcoming in the fresh green days of spring.

To Buy or Not to Buy, Not Just a Pretty Face, Curtain Call

The perfect trio includes Essie To Buy or Not to Buy, Not Just a Pretty Face, and Curtain Call ($5.95 each, an awesome price as these are typically $8.50 anywhere else).

To Buy or Not to Buy

Essie To Buy or Not to Buy is a gorgeous light lavender with tiny silvery blue shimmers.

This shade is from the Spring 2012 collection. I am wearing three coats and top coat in the pics above. The shimmers are more noticeable in the bottle than they are once applied. I think it’s a fantastic shade of purple that celebrates spring but in a more subtle way.

Not Just a Pretty Face

I was shocked at how much I love this shade! Normally I associate shimmery peach with the ’90’s and my first attempt at decorating a house (I went shimmery peach and baby blue…I know, I know, just shoot me now.) But this has enough pink in it to keep it current and it is just so delicate and girly. I love it.

What is in stock at Beyond Polish can vary, so if your favorite shade isn’t there today, just wait until tomorrow and check again! Now that I have my neutral choices all set, my next quest is to find the perfect bright color options for spring.  – Lisa

Nailette – the cutest mini polish subscription

nailette siteNailette is the newest nail subscription on the market. It’s only two months old so it’s a baby in the world of subscriptions but that’s so fitting since the polishes you will get with your subscription are sort of like babies too. They are minis from companies like Essie, OPI, and Orly.

Nailette subscription box

Nailette subscription box

Read this poem by the founder of Nailettes and you’ll see why I was happy when she offered to send me a box.

‘Twas the first day of spring, when all through the sky,
Not a cloud was present, or none I could spy.
When out at brunch I saw a friend’s nails,
In a stunning coral that matched her coattails.

Away to the beauty store I flew like a flash,
And found 30 shades of coral – a total mishmash!
Finally, I gave up and just asked an employee,
What the bestselling coral shade might be.

With a fat little brush, so lively and quick,
I applied my new polish and hoped it would stick.
Alas, alas – the shade was too red,
And my savings account, 15 dollars it’d shed.

I decided something must be done,
Wasting all this polish was no fun.
Could someone help me find the right shade?
In a size I can finish before I’m an old maid?

And then, in a twinkling, I founded Nailette,
A mix of nails and a game of roulette.
Mini nail polishes mailed to your door,
In handpicked colors that you will adore.

Nailette’s aim is to find colors you want yet don’t want to be overloaded with. Sometimes you want a bold, bright shade for your toes but you know it’s a one or two time polish. With Nailettes you can change your subscription to fit the mood of the moment.

Nailette - what's inside?

Nailette – what’s inside?

For $7.99 (plus $2 shipping) you’ll get the cutest little box with two well wrapped minis in it. You start by specifying your skin tone and then choose what type of colors you want: Simple and Subtle; Sophisticated and Classy; Bold and Edgy; or I want to mix it up.  There are sample nails of the types of shades they are talking about on their subscription page.

With my package I wanted Bold and Edgy. Here are the two great polishes I received:

Peace, Love & OPI; Orly Frisky

Peace, Love & OPI; Orly Frisky

I love holographic polishes and I’d mulled over OPI’s Peace, Love & OPI every time I was in Ulta but I had similar colors and didn’t feel like buying it to use once. I was thrilled when this came in my package. Orly Frisky is a cream polish that is more suited for spring and summer so I haven’t worn it yet but I will since I love my nails to look frisky in sunny weather.

OPI in bright light

OPI in bright light

The OPI polish was so much fun to wear because it always looked different. The above picture was my nails under my nail tech’s bright light. The bottom was taken within the shop. Look how different they are.

OPI under salon's overhead lights

OPI under salon’s overhead lights

Each month you need to be signed up by the 20th of the month to change your options. You can order a set of three polishes for $13.79 shipped too. This makes a great gift for someone you know who loves polish and loves to wear different colors all the time (like me!!!) You can purchase a 3 or 6 month gift for someone.

With Nailette you get surprises every month but you’ll never have to worry about the quality of the polishes since you know and love those brands anyway. I love subscription boxes and surprises so this is a great find for me. If you are a polish maven it’s time to get to know Nailette too. — Marcia

The Nail Collection subscription box has begun

The Nail Collection subscription box

The Nail Collection subscription box

If you’ve been reading Beauty Info Zone for any amount of time then you know I love to know about every subscription box that’s available. There’s a new kid in town, The Nail Collection, and they offered to send me a box so that BIZ readers could find out about them.

For $30 a month you’ll receive 4 polishes from some of the big names: China Glaze, Essie, OPI and Orly. If you live in the US your shipping is included but if you live in the UK, Canada or Australia you’ll have to pay an additional shipping charge of $9.99-$14.99. Since these polishes are so expensive in those countries this might be a great option to get them more reasonably.  Here’s a special code to receive this box for $25 as a welcoming gesture from the company. Just enter Infozonenails at checkout, TheNailCollection.com.

The Nail Collection will always include polishes from the newest collection. For their initial box I received 2 essie polishes, 1 from China Glaze and 1 from OPI. Since I haven’t been concentrating on these companies each of these is new to me and very appropriate for spring and summer.

From what I understand these boxes may not be identical but they’ll be similar. Ana, the owner, wrote a nice note and packaged these perfectly so that there was no chance of breakage. It was such a pretty package to open. She promises that you’ll always have the most up to date polishes in the box. The boxes are mailed in the first week of the month. If for some reason you need to skip a month they recommend that you stop the subscription and then start up again the following month.nail collection wheel 2
