I finished things! Amazing empties for March and April

It seems so rare for me to finish anything up completely other than a few staples but the last two months I actually did finish things and I’m ready for the dumpster with these. Until then see what got used up and what I think of these goodies.

March and April 2017 empties

March and April 2017 empties

Before I begin I must admit that I already threw away oodles and oodles of products. As I’m cleaning and packing I found so many that were started but never finished so I only kept the ones I really loved and tried to use those as much as possible. What you aren’t seeing is the trash that my neighborhood has seen!

Let me start with some staple items that I go through every single month and will continue to do so.

Q-tips and DHC Silky Cotton Squares

Q-tips and DHC Silky Cotton Squares

Costco knows me and my habits I’m sure. I buy these double packs of Q-Tips all the time. I use a lot of them in my life so buy stock in the company! I also have gone an unimaginable amount of DHC Silky Cotton Squares. I usually buy 6 at a time and they’ll last me for about 7 months. I noticed though that my last batch isn’t quite as soft as before so now I’m questioning whether they changed them. Anyone know?

Viviscal

Viviscal

I’m on auto-delivery from Amazon for these Viviscal Hair Supplements. I am on a maintenance dose and just take 1 per day rather than 2. I’ve mentioned many times about my hair growth problems and these help me a lot.

Bioderma Micellar Water, Dr. Brandt XYY Dual Fusion Water, Simple Micellar Wipes

Bioderma Micellar Water, Dr. Brandt XYY Dual Fusion Water, Simple Micellar Wipes

It’s obvious that I love Micellar Waters from this picture! I have a stash of Bioderma Sensibio H2O and made a point of finishing up the 500 ml and 100 ml bottles before I move. I have 1 more of each in my cupboard but won’t start those just yet. I did pick up a Garnier Micellar during a sale not long ago but that’s already packed and I also like Simple Micellar Water though I’ve noticed a slight fragrance with it. Simple Micellar Wipes are definitely my favorite wipes though. This is just a sample pack but I have a full size pack in use.

Dr. Brandt XYY Dual Fusion Water is one that I really enjoyed using but it is more expensive than these others. It feels more substantial though and it did a great job of cleansing.

Eclair Naturals Liquid Hand Soap, Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover

Eclair Naturals Liquid Hand Soap, Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover

I couldn’t begin to count how many Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Removers I’ve gone through since my first one. No matter how many others I try this is the one product that works for me time and again. I’ve already repurchased this and will again as soon as I move.

Eclair Naturals Liquid Hand Soap in Vanilla & Sweet Orange is a great natural soap that’s not drying. I’m stocked up on JR Watkins at the moment but I’ll repurchase this next.

Now for the fun stuff!

Miss Spa Oxygenating Bubble Mask and 24K Gold Creme Mask

Miss Spa Oxygenating Bubble Mask and 24K Gold Creme Mask

I’m not used to saving empties so in the past I never had them around. I purposely saved the packaging of Miss Spa Oxygenating Bubble Mask and 24K Gold Creme Mask since I totally love them. The 24K Gold Creme Mask is one I want to marry. The Oxygenating Bubble Mask was a fun bubbly alternative. I got three uses out of each package so it’s a bargain buy. I will definitely buy more after I test more of the Miss Spa masks I have.

Reviva Labs Vitamin C+ Antioxidant Serum, Hydroskin, IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Lines Serum

Reviva Labs Vitamin C+ Antioxidant Serum, Hydroskin, IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Lines Serum

I think I finished up Reviva Labs Vitamin C+ Serum but there might be a little left. Nothing pumps out anymore and I only see a drop inside. Reviva Labs is a favorite brand and this is a good example of why I like them. Very efficient and the price is great.

Hydroskin Skincare is a set I reviewed last month. I finished up all 4 of these products which is unusual for me but I dedicated myself to one solid month of just this line. I liked the way my skin looked with it. I still have 2 masks from them to use and review.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Lines Serum is ab fab! Not only do I love this anti-aging serum but I bought a new one before I was finished with the current one. This is my favorite skincare item from IT Cosmetics. I wish the price was less but I’ll continue buying and using this. I’m in love!

eye makeup empties

eye makeup empties

It’s a given that any time I would share an empty post that I’d have mascara. This time though I saved them after determining what needed to go before the big move. I found a lot of deluxe sample sizes and used them until dry or I didn’t care for them anymore.

In no particular order:

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara  –  always a favorite, I have another mini and a full size one still

Marc Jacobs Volume Mascara– while I liked the sample size from a kit I had bought I didn’t care for the full size one I had bought so it’s not to be purchased again.

Le Volume de Chanel  –  Love this even if this was tiny. I would buy it if I was flush.

2 more minis I forgot to picture: Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara which I loved and plan to buy one day soon. Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes, another dilemma since the sample was great but I wasn’t thrilled when I had it in full size.

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum – love, love, love this. It’s a perfect brown liquid eyeliner. This is the second one I’ve finished and I’m using my third. There will be a 4th and 5th for sure.

Smashbox Brow Tech To Go – while I didn’t use up the gel side I did use up every bit of the brow crayon side. It’s a very handy item but I just don’t need another right now.

IT Cosmetics No-Tug Waterproof Eyeliner in Black is one I enjoyed until it decided to break so I couldn’t use it anymore. I like these liners in general though and turn to them often when I want a pencil eyeliner.

A 3x use sample of Too Faced Shadow Insurance that was in my stash. I always have TFSI in my collection!

And one toss:

Z Palette

Z Palette

I got a few years worth of use from this but then it self-destroyed. It came apart and no longer is of use. I have others plus Z Palette is out of favor right now.

So there you have it. My empties, many of which are old standbys and a new love (Stila Huge Mascara) all wrapped up in my recycling bin for now.

What have you used up? —  Marcia

Needles no more…Dr. Brandt 3-D Filler Mask review and giveaway #plumpupthevolume

Dr. Brandt 3D Filler Mask

When you go 3-D, every line and wrinkle has depth, so why not fill that in a bit for smoother skin? Needles and fillers can be daunting (not to mention expensive!) so the BIZ was definitely up for trying the dr. Brandt® Needles No More 3-D Filler Mask ($95). The tag line for this mask is “Don’t let gravity be your destiny” and we are all for fighting gravity!! We were also particularly interested in the terrific dr. Brandt® #plumpupthevolume campaign, which fosters a national dialogue concerning issues of mental health and well-being and provides insight and support to individuals and families affected by mood disorders.

On top of all that, we have a fantastic giveaway for 3 subscribers!

Dr. Brandt 3D Filler Mask

Dr. Brandt 3D Filler Mask

Lisa’s Side:  dr. Brandt® Needles No More 3-D Filler Mask is a lovely leave on mask that has some great ingredients, including hyaluronic acid, peptides and something called Adipofill’in Complex. This creamy mask comes with a really nice synthetic application brush that I now use with all of my masks – it’s really terrific. Some nights I look in the mirror and I think, wow, gravity is definitely taking a toll…so I smooth on this mask and then leave it on overnight. It makes my skin feel a little tighter thanks to the polymethyl methacrylate (which is a film-forming agent) and immediately makes my wrinkles less noticeable. The shea butter is definitely soothing as well. In the morning, my skin is smoother, plumped, and younger looking.

Dr. Brandt 3D Filler Mask brush

Dr. Brandt 3D Filler Mask brush

It does have a very light fragrance due to the lavender extract, but it’s soft and dissipates quickly. I use the dr. Brandt® Needles No More 3-D Filler Mask once a week to make me feel pampered and plumped…and to make living in 3-D a whole lot more pleasant! (Be sure to check out the #FACEFWD Fall Issue for more great dr. Brandt® news).

Dr. Brandt 3D Filler Mask

Marcia’s Side:

While dr. Brandt® Needles No More 3-D Filler Mask is called a mask, it’s nothing like the masks that I normally write about. This is more of a treatment than a mask. I have a sample size of it, the same that 3 people will win, and I use it nightly. This has become an integral part of my nightime routine. The goal of dr. Brandt® Needles No More 3-D Filler Mask is to revolumize, reshape and fill.

dr. brandt 3-D filler mask deluxe sample

The deluxe sample size doesn’t come with the brush or the 3-D glasses but it comes with all the wonderful ingredients that make this treatment a success. I apply it with my fingers, starting at my chin and moving upwards. It’s recommended to then pat more onto areas with fine lines and wrinkles. I leave this on for a minimum of 15 minutes (longer is better) before I apply my moisturizer/night cream.

dr. brandt 3-D filler mask

dr. brandt 3-D filler mask

This creamy mask adds extra moisture to my skin and works while I’m asleep. The fragrance is only noticeable when I first apply it but then within seconds it dissipates. I’ve got a fussy nose and there is nothing to bother it or keep me awake. I’m thrilled to have discovered this tool to help me #plumpupthevolume.

THE DR. BRANDT FOUNDATION

After Dr. Brandt passed away the brand wanted to preserve the legacy he created. There is now The Dr. Brandt Foundation, a nonprofit organization established in partnership with The Miami Foundation. The Foundation’s first campaign, #plumpupthevolume, has been created to foster a national dialogue concerning issues of mental health and well-being, and provide insight and support to individuals affected by mood disorders, and their families.

The sad news is that one person dies by suicide in the U.S. every 13 minutes leading to more than 40,000 deaths a year. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) focuses on promoting awareness, prevention, understanding and hope to reverse this upward trend. To save lives the Dr. Brandt Foundation will aid its efforts in research, education and advocacy. In keeping with the long-held interests of Dr. Brandt, the Foundation will also provide support in the following areas: organizations that work with young artists to enhance their skills and passion for the arts, research of skin diseases, and the Humane Society.

JOIN IN THE FIGHT! Take part in the dr. Brandt® #plumpupthevolume campaign that will began on January 8th, 2016. This nationwide movement is a call-to-action platform that invites Instagrammers everywhere to share their enthusiasm for life and positive thoughts that can motivate others.

IT’S EASY TO JOIN: Take a photo or video of yourself holding a sign that reads “#plumpupthevolume”, tag or follow @drbrandt and post it on Instagram using the same hashtag. Then challenge friends and followers to do the same. For every person that accepts your challenge, dr. brandt skincare® will donate $1 dollar to the Dr. Brandt Foundation. The hashtag #plumpupthevolume calls on all Americans to ‘turn up the volume’ on issues around emotional health and well-being, and sheds new light on their causes, effects and treatments — offering both hope and help to those in need.

Favorite skin savers for 2015

HoneyWhen thinking about the year that just finished it’s hard to pick from all the products that I’ve been using but sometimes items just stand out and I can’t help but want to use them over and over again. I know I’ll miss mentioning some great items and regret that but here’s a roundup of things I’m loving and think you will too.

*some pr samples and affiliate links

CHOP SAVER LIP BALM

Chop Saver Lip Balm

Chop Saver Lip Balm *

I’ve been slathering this on day and night lately. My bedroom is dry and I like how this helps keep my lips moisturized at night without disturbing my sleep (yes little things like this can disturb my sleep).

DELECTABLE FRAGRANCE FREE BODY LOTION

Delectable Scent Free Body Lotion

Delectable Scent Free Body Lotion *

Totally in love with this. My legs aren’t flaky!! That alone is enough to recommend it. As much as I like Delectable in Lemon & Cream, it’s the scent free one that is my savoir. I even bought two of the Delectable Scent Free Hand Cream from Kohl’s before Christmas so I could have one upstairs and one downstairs.

FARMHOUSE FRESH WATERMELON BASIL VODKKATINI BODY SCRUB

Farmhouse Fresh Watermelon Basil Vodkatini Body Scrub

Farmhouse Fresh Watermelon Basil Vodkatini Body Scrub *

This scrub is so heavenly. I wanted to just stand in the shower and sniff it. But even better than the way it smells is the way it works. It’s a sugar scrub with just a tiny bit of salt in it. It’s definitely exfoliating but without overdoing it. It leaves just enough oil behind on my skin so that I’m moisturized without being greasy. Farmhouse Fresh has made me a convert with their fragranced products – I never envisioned that happening.

OIL ESSENTIALS SWEET ALMOND & MACADAMIA

Oil Essentials in Sweet Almond & Macadamia

Oil Essentials in Sweet Almond & Macadamia *

Oil Essentials is another favorite. I use this in the morning on my legs and/or hair. It’s a very light oil and doesn’t leave me the least bit greasy. I can apply this on my legs and put on my clothes right away without worry. Oil Essentials created a great combination of Sweet Almond and Macadamia Oil with added benefits from jojoba, it’s rich in essential fatty acids and Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 & E. This cruelty free product smells so delicious and works so well. Plus at $10.99 the price is very right.

CHRISTIE BRINKLEY AUTHENTIC SKINCARE

Christie Brinkley Authentic Skincare Recapture Day w/SPF 30 and Recapture 360 Night Anti-aging Treatment

Christie Brinkley Authentic Skincare Recapture Day w/SPF 30 and Recapture 360 Night Anti-aging Treatment *

Christie Brinkley’s line amazed me. While I continue to test other brands and have found some that I like a lot, right now her line is the one I keep going back to. I recently repurchased the Recapture Day + IR Defense since I’m dangerously low on my original jar and bought the Complete Clarity Facial Cleansing Wash for my next cleanser.

DR. BRANDT XTEND YOUR YOUTH DUAL FUSION WATER

Dr. Brandt Xtend Your Youth Dual Fusion Water

Dr. Brandt Xtend Your Youth Dual Fusion Water *

I need to make my New Year’s resolutions and the first one should be getting ready for bed earlier than I do now. I find that many days I do resort to a Micellar Water at night. But I also love this in the morning on the days I need to cleanse and tone without adding any soap/cleanser to my face. Dr. Brandt has come to the rescue with this Dual Fusion Water many nights and almost every morning.

SIMPLE MICELLAR REMOVER WIPES

Simple Micellar Remover Wipes

Simple Micellar
Remover Wipes

I buy two packages at a time since I don’t want to run out. These are great at night when I’m too tired to cleanse and just want to jump in bed. They are also great after the gym, to just refresh your face during the day, and to add hydration. I use a lot of wipes from a lot of brands but what makes these stand out is that they are refreshing and fragrance free.

REVIVA LABS NOURISHING CREAM

Reviva Labs Nourishing Cream

Reviva Labs Nourishing Cream *

It’s hard to pick only one product from Reviva Labs because everything is wonderful. The Nourishing Cream is like wrapping my face in a warm blanket made of cashmere. It’s the most soothing moisturizer I own. When my skin gets wacky from testing so many products this cream is what I revert to. It’s wonderful for face, hands, and body. I am so glad I was introduced to this in 2015.

LINDI SKIN EYE HYDRATOR

Lindi Eye Hydrator

Lindi Skin Eye Hydrator *

The hardest product for me to pick just one of is an eye cream. There’s a special reason why I chose Lindi though. Lindi Eye Hydrator is the most moisturizing eye product I’ve tried this year. It’s not the one to pick if you want to focus on dark circles or puffiness. It is the one to chose though if you have sensitive eyes, want to mask your fine lines, and/or need extra moisture under your eyes. This was developed for cancer patients and is a line I love using. Lindi Skin Face Serum is another product that they make that I’d recommend for anyone needing amazing moisture.

9 out of probably 190 is a small number but these 9 are products I’ve either repurchased or will repurchase in 2016 without hesitation. They’ve proven to me that they are the best of the past year. I can’t wait to see what 2016 holds! Have you tried any of these?  — Marcia

Dr. Brandt skincare – the way to start a new you for a new year

dr brand logoAs the year ends and we start making our resolutions for 2016 the Beauty Info Zone bloggers talked about using only the best skin care for the year. We noticed (when looking at our driver’s licenses, not the mirror) that we are getting older. We don’t want anyone to look at us and realize it so we made a promise to each other to learn about new skincare and use what works best. Dr. Brandt skin care fits smack dab in that category and we’re so happy to have received some products for review. Dr. Brandt Skincare really doesn’t need an introduction since it’s long been used and trusted. He was a pioneer in his field and not only practiced as a dermatologist but developed his skincare line to repair the signs of skin damage, combat the signs of advancing age gracefully, and maintain the most youthful skin possible. We agree with that philosophy are look forward to introducing you to some newer products that you may not know about.

MARCIA’S using XTEND YOUR YOUTH DUAL FUSION WATER

One of the newer skincare lines at Dr. Brandt is XYY otherwise known as Xtend Your Youth. This line is meant for age defense, anti-stress, and as an anti-oxidant. Just the group (XYY) calls to me.

Dr. Brandt Xtend Your Youth Dual Fusion Water

Dr. Brandt Xtend Your Youth Dual Fusion Water

Dr. Brandt Xtend Your Youth Dual Fusion Water is a double duty product. It’s a cleanser as well as a makeup remover. It’s safe for all skin types and has been both dermatology tested and opthamology tested. What makes Dual Fusion Water unique among the micellar waters that you’ve read so much about, is that this is also a toner.

The Dual Fusion Water gently removes all makeup, even your eye makeup, without any stinging. All you need is some cotton squares (like the ones Shiseido or DHC sell) and this bottle of magic.

  • removes oil, impurities & make-up residue
  • gently & effectively removes even waterproof make-up
  • may help support skin’s natural defense system against free radicals & external aggressors
  • leaves skin purified & revitalized

If you know me from reviews, you know I don’t like fragranced products and choose fragrance free when at all possible. I was thrilled to find that XXY Dual Fusion Water has no fragrance. I use it at different times of the day. In the morning if I have cleansed well the night before then I just squeeze some of the Dual Fusion Water on my cotton pad and refresh my face before adding any skincare. I’ve been using this every evening too in one of two ways – 1) to remove my makeup when I’m too tired to wash my face and 2) as a toner on the nights I do my proper cleansing

Dr. Brandt XXY Dual Fusion Water

Dr. Brandt XXY Dual Fusion Water

This micellar water does it all for me – it traps oil, removes impurities and makeup residues. It’s not sticky and it doesn’t interfere with any of the skincare I chose to use. My skin never feels stripped either. I learned that the PH range of this micellar water is between five and six to promote a healthy PH balance. This has been a great find for me and getting a lot of love.

LISA’S using OXYGEN FACIAL FLASH RECOVERY MASK

You know how sometimes you look in the mirror and realize your skin just looks tired? Or perhaps you were out too late the night before, or had one too many cocktails, and your skin is totally telling on you. The Oxygen Facial Flash Recovery Mask ($69) is the perfect antidote to sad looking skin.

The packaging is pretty cool – it looks like a big pill, but the bottom is flat so it stands up fine by itself. The facial mask is a lotion that you spread in a thin layer over cleansed skin. Whatever you do, don’t rub it in! That ruins the effect. Just lightly spread it on and watch in wonder while it bubbles up as the oxygen activates. It’s very cooling and soothing, and after about three minutes the bubbles start to dissipate.

That’s when you know it’s time to wash it off with warm water. After, apply your regular serum and moisturizer. You won’t believe how awesome your skin looks right away – hydrated and refreshed and just plain healthy. Just check out the clinical test results:

Research results:
In a clinical test conducted on 25 volunteers over 2 weeks:
Instant results after the first application:
– 96% reported that skin looks rested and fresh
– 92% reported that skin looks more radiant and luminous

Results after using twice daily for 2 weeks:
– 100% reported that product purifies asphyxiated and fatigued skin
– 100% reported that skin feels supple and smooth
– 96% reported that skin feels more hydrated and clarified

The Oxygen Facial Flash Recovery Mask  is a winner all around. The packaging is super cool, the mask is fascinating to use, and the effect on skin is wonderful. It’s  a great way to start off the new year!!
