Frizz Busters

Frizz Busters

Frizz Busters

Frizz happens.

Frizz isn’t pretty.

Frizz doesn’t make me happy.

 Frizz needs to be busted.

Even the women in the new Ghostbusters movie appear to have frizz. Not a pretty sight. So what do we do? We find products that help us tame the frizz and that’s what today is all about.

AQUIS TOWELS

Aquis Towel Lisse Luxe in Chevron

Aquis Towel Lisse Luxe in Chevron

Aquis Towels have been around for at least 20 years but they’ve changed over time. I remember buying my first one and being amazed at the difference using this towel on my hair. When drying your hair, using friction causes frizz. With an Aquis towel or turban you allow the water to wick out of your hair leaving it easier to to style without frizz. My newest one was sent by Aquis and I am in love with it. Sunday, July 10th I’ll be showing more pictures and telling you more about this towel but I can assure you that you need one of their towels in your life.

BRAZILIAN BLOWOUT ACAI SMOOTHING SERUM and THERMAL STRAIGHTENING BALM

Brazilian Blowout Thermal Straightening Balm and Smoothing Serum

Brazilian Blowout Thermal Straightening Balm and Smoothing Serum

After towel drying my hair I turn to serum, balms and other products to be able to even get a wet brush or wide tooth comb through my hair. I’ve used the Brazilian Blowout Acai line on and off for years. I get a keratin treatment about every 8 months so my hair is basically straight and fends for itself most of the time with frizz. But if I forget to use product I’m lucky to make it through one day let alone several. The Thermal Straightening Balm is used when I blow dry my hair since it locks out moisture. The Smoothing Serum is a multi-tasker. Not only is it great for blow drying and flat ironing but it’s recommended for use when you go swimming. Wet your hair and smooth some of the serum in to protect your hair from chlorine and salt. You don’t need to have a keratin treatment to use these great products, they are great for everyone.

LIVING PROOF FRIZZ NOURISHING STYLING CREAM and STRAIGHT

Living Proof No Frizz Nourishing Styling Cream and Straight

Living Proof No Frizz Nourishing Styling Cream and Straight

Unless I’m testing a new line I like to switch up the products I use so I’m always going back to Living Proof. Everything I’ve tried from them has been excellent. My go-to line is the No Frizz one. Their Nourishing Styling Cream is just the thing to stop frizz. As they say “weightlessly blocks humidity, smoothes and conditions, no heavy silicones or oils”. If you believe in frizz busting this is one of my favorites. After buying it the first time I quickly bought a second during a holiday special. Straight Style|Lab is a spray that I use when I wash my hair. I apply the Nourishing Styling Cream otherwise I can’t comb through my hair. Then I spray this on in sections to seal. This can be used on wet or dry hair but it’s best used before you heat style.

DERMORGANIC LEAVE-IN TREATMENT AND FAST DRY SHAPING SPRAY

DermOrganic Leave-In Treatment and Fast Dry Shaping Spray

DermOrganic Leave-In Treatment and Fast Dry Shaping Spray

I’m a huge fan of DermOrganic products. The first time I used them they were sent to me but I’ve since purchased several of the products. The Leave-In Treatment is a repurchase for me. This is a wonderful leave-in that is so amazingly light that you’d almost never know it was in your hair. But you do know because it does such a great job adding softness, shine, thermal protection, and controlling frizz. It’s made with Argan Oil of Morocco. While it’s not advertised as a frizz buster, it definitely works that way for me.

Fast Dry Shaping Spray is a great lightweight spray even though the name says Plus Hold. I hate helmet hair and I only use a spray on days that are very important style wise (like my niece’s upcoming outdoor wedding). I included this since it does a good job of allowing me to brush through my hair yet controlling it and keeping frizz from taking over. It’s vegan and there is no: animal testing, artificial preservatives, sulfates, gluten, sodium or chloride, salt, parabens, MEA, DEA or dyes. Plus it has a pleasant fragrance unlike so many sprays I’ve tried.

Frizz Fighter Alert – code red

Welcome to an edition of Makeup Wars for hair. This week we’ve been assigned (by the big boss) to share our favorite frizz fighters or volume saviors. I’m a genuine frizz hater. I’ve dealt with frizz my whole life and finally have ways to control it somewhat. For the last few years I’ve had a keratin treatment and I love the results of it. But it’s all grown out and I’m debating the merits of doing it again. Even with a Brazilian Blowout though I still need styling creams and products that fight the frizz so that’s what we have here, in no particular order. — Marcia
1433713480_ecru-acacia-protein-bb-creamECRU NEW YORK is one of my favorite haircare lines and their ACACIA PROTEIN BB CREAM is one I’ve been relying on ever since I received it. This is a great cream to protect my hair from my heat styling. It keeps my hair smooth and nourished. The Protein BB Cream contains Acacia Collagen™, Hydrolyzed Silk Protein, Silk Amino Acids, Jojoba Oil and Monoi Oil.
1433713281_coolway-4-160x400COOLWAY GLOW FINISHING OIL is actually part of a duo I use along with Coolway True Smooth Spray. The spray is used first and helps protect when I’m blowdrying and it also helps with frizz. The Finishing Oil is used after to make sure that my hair stays smooth and shiny.
1433713088_oil-essentials-almond-bottle-300x267OIL ESSENTIALS in SWEET ALMOND & MACADAMIA is fabulous. This oil can be used anywhere and lately I’ve been using it on my hair to help smooth it. This spring/summer has been very humid and I need all the help I can get. Oil Essentials is helping and is smells so darn good.
1433712997_makethumbnailKEUNE KERATIN SMOOTHING SERUM is my newest acquisition and I’m totally loving this line (full review upcoming). It is so great for those of us with frizz problems. The serum is a heat protector that contains active keratin, argan oil and essential minerals.
1433712835_dermorganic-leave-in-spray-therapy-160x300DERMORGANIC LEAVE IN SPRAY THERAPY is an “old” favorite that gets a lot of use. I think the new name might be Leave In Shine Therapy but whatever the name it’s still the same product. I use this after washing my hair and my comb just glides through my hair. It helps eliminate frizz while making my hair shiny.
1433712696_ag-hair-bb-and-deflectAG HAIR BB Cream Total Benefit Hair Primer and DEFLECT Fast Dry Heat Protection Spray work together like peanut butter and jelly. You can enjoy one without the other but together they are delicious. DEFLECT Spray is to be used on wet hair to help comb through it easily and to help with frizz protection as well as heat protection. BB Cream Primer is a hair primer that helps moisturize as well as thicken your hair to protect it from the F word.
1433712441_brazilian-blowout-masqueBRAZILIAN BLOWOUT ACAI SMOOTHING SERUM and BALM are my fall backs. I’ve been using these for years and I always have one of each on hand. You don’t need to have a keratin treatment to use these, anyone who wants a great styling tool and wants smoother looking hair would love this like I do.
Thanks for reading all my choices. My vanity is loaded with haircare so I switch around a lot. Are any of these products ones you use? If not, what do you use? —  Marcia

Happy Earth Day with Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is always an interesting post for me to do. I’m especially excited about this week’s because it’s all about products that I feel are good for you and for the earth. Earth Day has been celebrated since 1970 to celebrate support of environmental protection. What was originally unique to the United States is now celebrated world wide and not just for a day. I’ve seen many mentions of Earth Week and Earth Month. It’s terrific to remind people about this on April 22nd and beyond but it’s also important to remember to conserve and support efforts for the environment year round.

When it came to picking out products as my Top Ten I had a lot to choose from. I think this is going to be one of the most diverse Top Ten lists that our group has done. There are several brands that are known for being environmentally friendly year round like tarte and IT Cosmetics, but I’m choosing to celebrate some smaller brands that I’ve been using and loving. Reviews for most are forthcoming.

PRETTY LITTLE ELIXIR is a hair mask to be used about once a week. My hair is so incredibly soft when I use this that all I want to do is run my hands through it. What makes this particularly wonderful is that this is a creation by Phyrra and Future Derm. I bought mine from Gloss48 but I understand that there’s an upcoming sale at Future Derm for a lot less. This thick cream does a wonderful job keeping my hair in great condition. It’s 100% Vegan and Cruelty Free.

EPIC BLEND PREMIUM LIP BALM – these Canadian born lip balms are the epitome of eco. They were created to be all natural and completely healthy. There are different formulas including a vegan one. The lip balms themselves are outstanding and are cruelty free, gluten free, and all natural. A full review and giveaway will be coming up soon.

KEEP BUZZIN’ HAND CREAM – I just reviewed this line HERE and I’m so in love that even though I received some from the company, I also bought some. Not only are these Hand and Foot Creams 100% natural but they give back. From now until May 15th they are donating $3.78 out of each $10 jar to Food For The Poor. One jar alone will help feed one child 60 meals. I don’t think I can rave enough about these hand creams but what they are doing blows me away. (Check out our giveaway)

DERM ORGANIC SKINCARE – you’ve heard us rave about the DermOrganic hair care before and now I’m testing out the new line of DermOrganic Skincare. DermOrganic is perfect for this Top Ten list. It’s vegan, there’s no artificial preservatives, there’s no artificial fragrance, and there’s no animal testing.

ECO-ARMOUR – This is one of our favorite brands and you can see by the name that it an eco-friendly brand and one that should be considered for Earth Day (week/month too). My favorite product is their Bergamot & Pink Grapefruit Shave with Benefits but all of their products use botanicals that are 100% sustainable. Besides their original Shave with Benefits and Outdoor Insect Repellant they now have an Advanced Botanical Serum for your face, neck and nails as well as a Mango Butter Lip Balm.

Healthy, happy hair with DermOrganic

It’s not often that we review the same products twice here at the BIZ, but some things bear repeating. Marcia has already raved about DermOrganic Argan-infused hair products, and I am here to remind everyone just how fantastic they are.

DermOrganic

DermOrganic Shampoo, Treatment and Masque

I was super jealous when I read Marcia’s rave for this line and couldn’t wait to try out the products they sent for myself. My hair is extremely happy and looks and feels so healthy with these products! It’s no wonder since all DermOrganic hair products are vegan, pH balanced 4.5 – 5.5, and there are lots of good NO’s – no animal testing, no artificial preservatives, no sulfate or gluten, no sodium chloride, salt, MEA, DEA or dyes.

DermOrganic

DermOrganic Daily Conditioning Shampoo

The DermOrganic Daily Conditioning Shampoo ($16 for 12 oz.) is a super gentle shampoo that really hydrates hair and makes it stronger. While this is sulfate-free, it still lathers up nicely and rinses out clean. I am fascinated at how this is made with facial cleansers, Essential Fatty Acids and Amino Acids.  I would never have thought skin cleansers would be so terrific for hair. I get my hair colored about every three weeks because it grows so fast and it loves the Argan Oil with Omega-6 and Linoleic Acid, Vitamin E, Panthenol, Rice Amino Acids, and anti-oxidant plant extracts that are also in this shampoo.

DermOrganic

DermOrganic Intensive Hair Repair Masque

Because my hair is long, my ends tend to get quite dry. The DermOrganic Intensive Hair Repair Masque ($16 for 8 fl. oz.) seals up those hair cuticles, making them smooth and strong and shiny. There is no silicone, propylene glycol or glycerin in this conditioner which means I can use it after every shampoo without worry that it will build up and weigh down my fine hair strands.

DermOrganic

DermOrganic Leave-In Treatment

My hair definitely loves the DermOrganic Leave-In Treatment ($25 for 4 fl. oz). This treatment has tons of Certified Argan Oil of Morocco that makes hair shiny and smooth. It also reduces the time it takes to blow dry my hair and protects it from the heat of the hair dryer and other styling tools. A little goes a long way, so don’t use too much of this. I use about a dime-size amount for my mid-back length hair, rubbing it between my hands then running it through my damp hair right before blow drying.

Makeup Wars: Cruelty Free Favorites

 photo cruelty-free-drugstore-makeup.jpg

It’s always fun to write a Makeup Wars post like this since it gives me a chance to really think about what I have and what I’d say are favorites. Truthfully I have a lot more products than you have the patience for so I picked 9 items that I’d buy again and again. Several of these were samples (*) but knowing that I will buy them myself led them to be the chosen ones.
1. Too Faced Boudoir Eyes palette – naturally I have all the pictures done and no time to write about this but this is a favorite and will be reviewed soon. Too Faced is known to be cruelty free and their eyeshadow palettes are beautiful. Their palettes are $36 which is great for 9 shadows.
2. Tarina Tarantino Dollskin Cheek Cream Blush* – ooh la la! I have both shades of the blush duos and I can’t stop wearing them. There’s a beautiful bright cool toned pink called Mr. Pink and a fabulous pinky coral called Coral Cameo. I could never pick a favorite since they are both out of this world, long lasting and of course cruelty free.
3. Tarte Smooth Operator Concealer* – I love tarte concealers. I truly love them. I recommend them to people all the time. They have a lot of formulas so it’s easy to find one that fits your needs. Smooth Operator Concealer is my new favorite from tarte. I still use my others but this one sort of pushes them out of the way. It’s creamy, not messy, and like all tarte is cruelty free.
4. Urban Decay Naked Skin Liquid Foundation – the last few months I’ve been using mostly BB and CC creams but the minute the weather cooled down a little this is the foundation I took out. I apply it with their Good Karma Optical Illusion Brush and the finish is wonderful. There are so many shades of this that you really need to go in and get matched for it, once you have it though you won’t want to put it down.
5. Bootie Babe Nail Polish* – I’m c-c-crazy about my Bootie Babe! Not only are the bottles the cutest thing this side of Miley Cyrus but the polishes are beautiful and last. This is not the last time you’ll be hearing about Bootie Babe from me!
6. Beauty Blender Sponge – I’ve been using the Beauty Blender sponge for years and years. It’s affectionately known as the Pink Egg around here. Even my 2 year old grandson is fascinated with the Beauty Blender Sponge and is always taking it off my vanity or asking for it. He may think it’s a fun toy but I think it’s great for blending my foundations.
7. DermOrganic hair care* – I love trying new hair care (though not as much as my blog partner Lisa) but you always need a staple to come back to and DermOrganic has made that cut. This argan infused line leaves my hair shiny and easier to manage.
8. It Cosmetics brushes – I don’t own this set but it was a great way to show you several of the It Cosmetics brushes together plus it’s a great buy on QVC. The It Cosmetic brushes are superior cruelty free brushes and every one I have is a delight. The good news is that you’re able to buy It Cosmetics at Ulta now too so you’ll have several places to find this amazing line.
9. Reviva Labs Hyaluronic Acid Serum* – actually I could have picked one of a dozen Reviva Labs products since they are all wonderful. I’m totally in love with their Makeup Primer, Anti-Irritant Gel, Vitamin E stick and this Hyaluronic Acid Serum. I wanted to include some skincare in this post and Reviva Labs jumped to the forefront. You can’t go wrong with this cruelty free well priced line.
Thanks so much for reading about some of my favorite products. Beauty Info Zone isn’t a cruelty free blog but we appreciate products that are and try to mention that in our reviews. There are wonderful CF brands as you can see. Which of these have you tried? — Marcia

Top Ten Tuesday – what’s in my shower

Top Ten Tuesday has decided to reveal what’s in our shower (or bathtub) this week. While I’m picking 10 items that are in my shower you need to know that this is at THIS moment. Shower items change all the time. The products in there actually get used up which is a rarity in my life. I’d probably have a lot more in the shower if it weren’t for my DH who hates moving things around and limits me. All of the items listed are Top 10 material.  — Marcia

Top 10 Shower

1. Brocato Supersilk Pure Indulgence Shampoo* – a review is coming so watch for it since this is a wonderful product.

2. My Amazing Blow Dry Secret Shampoo*
3. My Amazing Blow Dry Secret Conditioner* – these two are new for me and I’ve just been testing them a short time but the purpose of these is to cut down the time to blow dry. What you need to know is that this works! These two products definitely cut time and leave my hair looking good. A review will follow on these too.

4. DermOrganic Intense Hair Masque* – I only have to use a mask twice a month and this one is terrific. It does a great job on moisturizing my hair.

5. Venus Divine Razor
6. Razorpouch* – I recently reviewed this handy holder. It’s great for travel and for keeping the clutter down in my shower.

7. Shave with Benefits – I’m a broken record with this product since it’s my #1 preference for shaving.

8. Dove Sensitive Skin Beauty Bar, Unscented – my ob/gyn recommended unscented Dove to me 25 years ago and I’ve used it ever since. No more gyn infections!

9. Algenist Multi-Perfecting Detoxifying Exfoliator* – that’s a mouthful but it’s worth the mouthful. This is part of Algenist’s Pore Minimizing Line and this facial exfoliator is great to help minimize pores.

10. SpaSonic* – since this is waterproof it’s a good tool to keep in the shower. It’s gentler than an ultrasonic machine which I like early in the morning. It’s good for me to get all of my Algenist Exfoliator off plus I can use it on my feet and body.

So there’s the 10. Most of these are items I love using all the time, hair products get changed more often than the rest and I’m in the market for a new shower wash so I can’t wait to read what my blogger buddies are going to teach me. Please click on these bloggers icons so you can learn what other items are loved.

Makeup Wars goes to the SPA

This is going to be an especially interesting Makeup Wars for me since I’ve never been to a spa. I’ve seen them in movies and on TV but I’ve never had the experience. Therefore I’m explaining what I like to do on days I consider “spa” days. Ones that relax me and help me do some beauty treatments I wouldn’t normally do. Some of these products were sent for review purposes* and each are used with love.

First off I’d start with a shower. My hot water doesn’t last especially long so this is going to be a two step shower. I’ll wash my hair with DermOrganic Argan Hydrating Shampoo* and follow that with DermOrganic Intense Hair Masque*. I love how DermOrganic’s products leave my hair so shiny and silky. The Hair Masque adds in much needed moisture. I’ll then put on my trusty polka-dot shower cap to let it all soak in.

DermOrganic line

DermOrganic line

Next is my body and I’d use Argan Magic’s Zesty Orange Body Scrub*. I’m amazed I still have some of this left but I have been savoring it. I love the smell and feel of this since it’s not gritty plus it has Argan Oil in it and my winter skin needs this added moisture.

Argan Magic Zesty Orange Body Scrub

Argan Magic Zesty Orange Body Scrub

I wish I still had the Argan Magic Bloomin’ Body Wash but that’s long gone. I’ll use a muslin cloth to get off all of the scrub and then I’ll hop out of the shower to work on my face and let my hot water refresh itself. I’m going to put on my BrokeDown Bath Wrap that was in my February PopSugar Must Have Box.

Broke Down body towel

I’m going to do a facial mask next and the one I’m picking is from Somme Institute* and it’s called Boost. This is one of my favorite masks. It’s a self-warming mask and works wonders in under 10 minutes. It doesn’t harden and make my face tight so it’s great using prior to makeup.

I’d also do an eye mask like the one by Biobliss*. A full review of this is coming up soon so you can see how great this is. I did it last week along with several other things already in this review to prepare to write. My eyes were thanking me for days.

Biobliss Anti-Wrinkle Patch for Eyes

I'm in bliss with Biobliss

After removal of the Biobliss I’m back in the shower and will finally shave my legs. I’m lucky that I don’t have to shave my legs often but when I do I almost always reach for Shave With Benefits*. This gentle shaving foam protects my legs from cuts and in addition acts as a body wash. It’s gentle enough for face and body as well as shaving. Off comes the shower cap and my hair gets totally rinsed out.

Three steps left that are all moisturizing. First I’m slathering up my body with Aveeno Positively Nourishing Energizing Body Lotion*. My favorite scent in this is Pomegranate+Grapefruit. I was sent my first one as an Aveeno Ambassador but have since bought this as it’s a scent I enjoy and that doesn’t overpower me.

Aveeno Energizing Pomegranate + Grapefruit

Next I’m using Miracle Foot Repair. I share this with my husband actually since we both have very dry feet and find this to take care of the cracks and discomfort we often feel. For spa time I’m going to definitely put socks on so it will sink in.

Miracle Foot Repair

Miracle Foot Repair

For my final act I’ll use Hand Perfection’s Anti-Aging Hand Care System*, specifically the Nourishing Day Cream SPF 15. This is another upcoming review. Not only does this system have the Nourishing Day Cream but it also contains Rejuvenating Night Cream and a Nail and Cuticle Treatment Pen. It’s a wonderful system plus there’s no fragrance to the creams so I love it all the more.

Well for someone who said it would be difficult to write about this, I am my typically wordy self. All of these products, whether sent for a possible review or purchased myself, are keepers and belong in my Spa day and just about any day. Please use the links to read what the other Makeup Wars bloggers have done for their spa day. I’m eager to find out about new products and exactly what I missed.
