Boxycharm July and August delights and a giveaway

I received my Boxycharm subscription boxes for both July and August at the same time. The July box inadvertently went to my old house and was returned to them. Boxycharm was wonderful about this (unlike Ipsy who made it difficult) and sent me the box again which I really appreciate. Both boxes are great and made me remember why Boxycharm is the best subscription beauty box around. I’ve even prepaid for the next 6 months since I don’t want to lose out on this.

No subscription box is going to be perfect unless you were given a huge range of products to pick from and got to do your own eeny meeny minnie moe. Because of that I have products from these two boxes that are going to make one Beauty Info Zone reader very happy.

Boxycharm for July 2017

Let’s see what the July box CUTIE PIE contained. Just a note first that Boxycharm is $21 a month and my July box has a value of $133. Yes $133!!

EYES are my thing so the first item opened was the Blinc Electric Eyes Palette ($45 on special for $25). I didn’t have a clue that Blinc made anything other than mascara so this was an excellent surprise.

Blinc Electric Eyes Palette

Metallic makeup is all the rage for now and will continue to be during the fall so this set of 5 highly pigmented shades are perfect. I love to mix a metallic shade with satin shades and I’ve got 5 new colors to do so with!

from blincinc.com swatches of Electric Eyes

Continuing with eyes is a UNI-BROW UNIVERSAL EYEBROW PENCIL by WinkyLux ($12). The name Uni-Brow is a little scary but it’s fun too. This is a medium brown pencil with a very nice triangular tip. I have one with the same tip from Tom Ford that was a whole lot more money. This is firm enough that I can build up the color and smooth enough to apply easily plus it has a spoolie.

Lips come next since all Boxycharm boxes include lip products and this one is from ColourPop. While only $6 you know it’s hot as can be. They are taking the makeup world by storm. The Ultra-Matte Lip I received is in Thursday and it’s a very hot shade. You’ll be noticed in this red violet shade.

bareMinerals Mineral Shield Broad Spectrum SPF50 Daily Prep Lotion ($30) was my bareMinerals items. Other received their Invisible Light Translucent Powder Duo which is marvelous.

bareMinerals Prep Step Mineral Shield Broad Spectrum SPF50

Since I own the powder duo already this works great for me, I can never have enough sunscreen and this one is an excellent addition to my collection. It combines a moisturizer with the SPF50 and has a unique color-adapting formula. I was especially happy to find it’s fragrance free (also paraben free and oil free).

One more for July and it’s from Ofra. Boxycharm has the B.E.S.T. brands! This Body Illuminizer is an all over lotion to give your skin a glow ($40). It’s not a self-tanner and it’s recommend for all skin tones.

Ofra Cosmetics Body Illuminizer

Remember this box cost $21 and look at the goodies! But now onto the August box, Beach Please.

Boxycharm for August 2017

One of my close friends finally gave in and ordered Boxycharm after my telling her over and over that she’d love this sub. Well when she got the August box she went bananas! Which she should. This box has a value of $106 and is only fabulous!

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Volume II

Eyes first of course and this month it’s from Tarte and it’s Rainforest of the Sea: Volume II ($36 but onsale for $18.95 now). One of my favorite palettes is Volume I so you know I bought Volume II instantly. That means someone is going to win my spare!

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Volume II

The application of these 8 cool toned shadows is terrific. They are very buttery. There’s a mix of finishes but nothing glittery. The shades are  Pearl (white shimmer), Conch (off white), Sunset (yellow gold), Marina (caramel), Seaside (chestnut), Siren (dark brown), Breezy (shimmering slate), Riptide (steel blue).

Bellapierre Waterproof Gel Eyeliner pencil ($15) is next and in spite of it being another black liner this one really works well. It’s quite smooth, it smudges when first applied if that’s what you want, and then it sets. This too is a product I already own so you know what that means.

Bellapierre Ebony Waterproof Gel Eyeliner

We’re not done with eyes and these PUR Cosmetics Pro Eyelashes (Diva, $14) are what I call fun. Can I apply false lashes? Not at all but my sister is a makeup artist and she’s great at it. There were two different lash sets that subscribers received but there are 7 pairs that Pur makes. These are 3D lashes that are handcrafted with silk to provide lightweight and natural looking yet fuller lashes. Cruelty free of course since they are PUR and you can reuse them up to 30 times.

PUR Pro Eyelashes

Lips are a given for Boxycharm and this month I received GRLPWR LIQUID LIPSTICK in Date Night. This applies creamy (according to the website) and dries to a matte finish. ($14.95)

GRLPWR Date Night (from The Beauty Crop site)

We aren’t done and now we have my favorite of the box (since I already own the Tarte): MODA PRO 3 PIECE BRUSH SET by Royal & Langnickel ($26). I own brushes, boy do I own brushes, but when great ones come along count me in. These are so new that you can only see the collection on their website but they aren’t available yet – except for us Boxycharm subscribers! There are 3 brushes in the 100% vegan, cruelty-free set.

Moda Pro brushes from Royal & Langnickel

Pointed Brush BMX-130 is made to apply blush and powder with precision or to use the tapered edge to create a subtle contour. It is so incredibly soft and I love the handles of these. They are sort of quilted with a an easy to grip handle.

Moda Pro Chisel BMX-250 brush

The Moda Pro Chisel BMX-250 is unlike any brush I own. The shape is unique as it’s curved and fits my cheekbone exactly. Fabulous for apply highlight or contour.

Moda Pro Crease BMX-430

The Crease BMX-430 brush isn’t any different than other crease brushes except it is just great to use. It can define your eyes, it helps blend, it helps with buffing your eye. It’s soft yet firm enough to do its job properly. These are impressive brushes and I plan to add to this beginning collection.

Moda Pro brushes from Royal & Langnickel

Now the part you’ve been waiting for – a giveaway. Everything in the giveaway is fabulous but I either have it or don’t need it so one US subscriber will own 5 of these after the giveaway is over on 9/5/17 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. If comments close be sure to email me at [email protected], label it boxycharm, and comment in the email. But ONLY if the comment box closes. Then you can click I commented and do more of the entries. Sorry about the US only but this box is heavy!

On the 5th day of Christmas…

Welcome to the 5th day of Christmas giveaway. While it’s not 5 gold rings, it is a bundle with 5 cosmetic items which is close enough if you are a Beauty Info Zone subscriber. See what you can win.

My favorite item in the giveaway is the bareMinerals First Crush Color Lipstick Palette. This is similar to the Buxom eyeshadow palettes since you can pop one lipstick out of the main palette and pop it into the individual compact. There are 5 lipstick shades in this. Fall in Love, Speak Your Mind, Shameless Flirt, Get Ready and Kiss Your Crush. I didn’t take them out of the palette so I can’t describe the colors but they are mighty pretty and a great range of shades.

Next up is the Elizabeth Arden Sweet Peach blush which is a peachy pink that looks soft and very wearable.

If you are counting that makes 4… but it’s 5 gold rings! Oops, it didn’t make it into the picture but it’s in the package. Milani Bella Sand eyeshadow is a sandy gold. It’s not brassy or brash. I think it makes a great subtle gold addition to this group.

Favorite travel size products

top ten tuesdayTop Ten Tuesday decided to share our top ten travel products but I just can’t do that. I have way more than 10 so I’m going to share what I’ll be buying and taking on upcoming trips. I have a 3 day weekend trip in August and then in the winter I’ll be going south for about 8 days so I’m in planning mode.

Let’s first start with what travel size treasures I’m taking for my 3 day weekend trip (I’m sure more will be added though). There aren’t a lot of mini cosmetics around but you can easily find travel sizes of skincare and haircare. My best sources for these small products are subscription boxes like IPSY and Glossybox. I also watch Sephora’s emails carefully because they often have codes for deluxe samples that are great for travel or to stick in your purse. Even though I don’t travel that often I like to be able to try new things by using samples.  — Marcia

SKINCARE:

1) ADVENTURESS SWIPES* are great to stick in my purse. They are the size of my palm and thin enough that they take up almost no space. My favorite is the YouVee Sunscreen Swipes which you can open, use, close, use later. They won’t last for more than a day but it’s a great day trip product. (A box of 24 is $33)

There are three types of swipes:

Naturally Liberating Cleanser Swipes are a fragrance free creamy cleanser that will leave your skin hydrated.

Boldly Nourishing Moisturizer Swipes are anti-aging and contain a number of good for your skin ingredients.

YouVee Sunscreen Swipes are SPF30 and are invaluable. This is a great way to refresh your sunscreen. Active Ingredients: Zinc Oxide 9.7% Sunscreen, Titanium Dioxide 6.5% Sunscreen.

2.  ALGENIST SKINCARE products are fabulous. I use a lot of different types of skincare and Algenist is one of my very favorite brands. I’ve gotten travel sizes through Sephora points and codes and on the Algenist website where they have 17 different travel sizes for sale. They also have travel kits and I’ve purchased those. Three of my favorites that will be coming on both my trips – Retinol & Lifting Serum ($33 mini that’s twice the size of mine), Genius Ultimate Anti-Aging Cream ($40 for the mini that’s twice the size of mine) and Complete Eye Renewal Balm.

3.  KLORANE SMOOTHING AND RELAXING PATCHES FOR EYES were in a recent IPSY bag. Since my weekend trip is a wedding I’m bringing one of these to use the afternoon of the wedding so I’ll look more refreshed. I have other options like the eye patches from ToGoSpa that I love but for this trip the very thin Klorane will slip into a pocket of my purse easily.

4.  SUPERGOOP EVERYDAY SUNSCREEN was also in one of my IPSY bags and I was so excited. I’ve gone through several of these in the past. When it comes to samples in those subscriptions, when they send a brand like SUPERGOOP it’s A-OK with me. This size is perfect for a 3 days trip. I’ll put this on in the morning and then keep my Adventuress YouVee Swipes with me during the day.

HAIRCARE:

5.  LIVING PROOF FRIZZ SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER and PRIME STYLE EXTENDER are samples I received not that long ago with a Sephora code. I’d been wanting to try Living Proof and the code came at the right time. There were 12 nice size samples in the package. I’ve been testing it and one packet has lasted me through 3 shampoos and there’s probably enough for 2 more. I’m very impressed with Living Proof and now I see what the fuss is all about.

6.  AMIKA PERK UP DRY SHAMPOO is something I’ve actually given away in the past but when I recently got this in an Ipsy bag I realized I needed it. It’s going on my winter trip to refresh my hair when I get up too late to wash.

7.  CONAIR TRAVEL SIZE DETANGE BRUSH* is my favorite travel companion. Now that I’ve learned how great wet brushes are I want one on every trip. It’s a compact size brush that works great for me after I wash my hair or on dry hair. Love this baby!

COSMETICS

8.  COVER FX ILLUMINATING PRIMER was a code sample from Sephora. I’d been dying to try it and I’m so glad I had something I wanted to buy when the code was available. This is a terrific, unfragranced, primer that will be perfect under my foundation at night for the parties I’ll be at.

9. LORAC BEHIND THE SCENES EYE SHADOW PRIMER is one of my favorite primers so having this travel size from my LORAC Pro eyeshadow palette is wonderful. I know my eyeshadow primers aren’t that big but the way I overpack pack, I need to make space.

10.  IT COSMETICS BYE BYE CONCEALER was in a kit I bought from the IT Cosmetics website. I prefer the concealer in Fair but this one in Light is great too. I’m a huge fan of this concealer anyway so having this in my kit was a great bonus.

11.  IT COSMETICS HELLO LASHES MASCARA was in the same kit. I’ve named this my favorite mascara in the past and it’s still way up there. It’s the perfect size for travel.

12. URBAN DECAY 24/7 GLIDE ON LIP PENCIL in OZONE – another IPSY delight. This clear liner means I don’t have to travel with other lip pencils and can still bring my umpteen lip colors without worry.

13.  TheBALM NUDE DUDE EYESHADOW in FLIRTY is a beautiful bronze sparkly dude. I get tired of shadows quickly so this will be in my bag just in case I want a change.

14.  BIODERMA SENSIBLO H2O MICELLAR WATER is a mini that is now available for $6.95 on the Beautylish website. When I bought my Bioderma Micellar Water my mini was a bonus and I was afraid to use it up. Now I know I can replace it since it’s not refillable and I’m doing a happy dance about that.

Top Ten Tuesday goes shopping at Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale

TOP TEN TUESDAY wants to shop and help you shop. Nordstrom’s big anniversary sale is coming up with early access for card holders through July 16th. Since a lot of things sell out quickly you usually need to be johnny-on-the-spot to get what you want. I took a leisurely stroll through the offerings and came up with a list of 10 things that I’m highly considering.
Last year I bought a ton of clothes and returned 75% of them. This year I’d like to be more judicious and buy what I need. Of course I’d start with cosmetics since that always fits.
1.  DIOR EYE REVIVER PALETTE ROSY PALETTE ($62) has the soft type of shades I like to wear. This contains a base and 4 shadows in gradiant shades with rose undertones and a plum eyeliner shade which I’m sure I’d use as a shadow. This is exclusive to Nordstrom.

Dior Eye Reviver Rosy palette

2.  SMASHBOX PHOTO OP MEGA PALETTE appeals to me because it has so much going on. With 8 trios there’s always going to be a combo I’m interested in. Plus it contains 3 blushes and a mascara. It’s been a while since I’ve used Smashbox eyeshadows but this seems a great way to try them again.

Smashbox Photo Op Mega palette

3.  LAURA MERCIER “THE ART OF COLOR EYE AND CHEEK COLLECTION” ($79) popped out at me since I always hear raves about her collections and I usually miss out on them. I do have some of the shades in this so that could hold me back. It contains Matte Eye Colour in Morning Dew and Cappuccino, Luster Eye Colour in Brown Sugar, Vanilla Kiss, African Violet, Burnished Rose, Gunmetal and Pink Haze, Second Skin Cheek Colour in Bellini, and Full Blown Volume Supreme Lash Building Mascara in Black.  If you don’t have LM this is a perfect way to start.

Laura Mercier The Art of Colour Eye & Cheek Collection

4.  BLAME IT ON NARS CHEEK PALETTE ($59) contains a mini kabuki brush and Highlighting Blush in Satellite of Love, Blush in Day Dream, Blush in New Attitude, and Bronzing Powder in Casino. I don’t own any of these shades and now that we’re all talking about strobing the highlighting blush is calling to me.

Blame it on Nars Cheek Palette

Blame it on Nars Cheek Palette

From what I’ve read on Nouveau Cheap there is a GWP that’s available that’s a makeup case with samples. You’d use the code TEAL, CORAL, PURPLE or GRAY (men’s) to add it to your cart. Of course I ordered cosmetics before I read about that!!
5.  HALOGEN V-NECK CASHMERE TUNIC SWEATER in either Blue Pastel (shown) or Dark Heather Gray ($98.90) would be a great staple for me to have. I wear jeans almost all the time so either color would be cozy for me.
6.  VINCE CAMUTO HOODED COAT would make a great addition to my wardrobe. I love hoods since they protect me from the elements and I always look to buy a coat or jacket during the Nordstrom Annivesary Sale. This only comes in navy which is fine with me. The length is 36″ which would make it work with anything. At $464.90 it’s more than I usually pay so I haven’t committed to it … yet.
7. HALOGEN CASHMERE TRAVEL WRAP ($98.90) looks great to me. I have scarfs so this would be a slight change. It always amazes me how much a good scarf can cost so I like to find one during this sale. And because it’s a wrap, I might not even lose it.
8.  JANE BASCH DESIGNS DIAMOND & PERSONALIZED MONOGRAM Y-NECKLACE grabbed my eye instantly. I love a long necklace and I’m glad that Nordstrom has so many this year. For me there’s nothing better than hearts on my jewelry and this has two. At $149.90 it’s not that expensive even though they have other long necklaces I like that are less. But hearts?? That’s me.
9.  KATE SPADE NY NORTH COURT BOW LACEY PEBBLED LEATHER ZIP WALLET is a mouthful ($131.90) This is exclusive to Nordstrom and it’s pink. PINK!! Even though I always look first at Shopbop for purses and wallets this is just too cute and it won’t be at Shopbop.
10.  KATE SPADE NY NORTH COURT ANTON PEBBLED LEATHER SATCHEL is another Nordstrom exclusive. I love the Deep Indigo shade (pictured) and it would look great with my casual wardrobe. This may be the first thing in my cart.
What are you interested in during the sale? What do you usually wait for and hope it’s there? — Marcia

Would you want some Wantable cosmetics? Of course you would.

Wantable Cosmetics for July 2015

Wantable Cosmetics for July 2015

Each month WANTABLE SUBSCRIPTIONS delivers unique boxes to their subscribers. While Lisa loves the Intimates and Accessory boxes, I am truly a Cosmetic maven and that’s the box that I love getting from them (pr sample). Whenever I see a Wantable review online I like to read it to see what they sent to the subscriber and I’ve yet to find a duplicate among them. One thing I have noticed for the last few months is that the brand DOUCCE has made a big appearance. I’ve received three different Doucce products and other than the fragrance of the lipstick each has been a great addition to my cosmetic wardrobe.

The one thing that surprised me this month is that I received two items very similar to my June box. I was a bit put off at first but when I went to use them I realized just how much I liked the additions for July. In June I received a Doucce black liquid eyeliner and this month I received a Frankie Rose gel eyeliner in black. June and July brought me mascaras but they are as different as can be. The Chella Water Resistant mascara from June is great for a daily mascara while the Doucce mascara is wild and crazy (and a great look).

Doucce Volumizer Mascara in black

Doucce Volumizer Mascara in black

DOUCCE VOLUMIZER MASCARA is called PUNK VOLUMIZER MASCARA on the box. I was intrigued and frightened at the same time. At my age the word Punk isn’t in my personal vocabulary but what was the harm of trying this? Doucce says this mascara defines lashes one by one making them thicker and adding spectacular volume. My puny (unpunklike) lashes actually did end up with spectacular volume. I can only imagine what they’d do for someone who had great lashes to begin with. This is NOT a mascara I could wear daily because it eventually flakes on me but when I’m going out at night and just have a few hours, it’s definitely a go. The retail price of this mascara is $24. If I were to return it (which I won’t) Wantable would refund $10.67 towards my next box.

Frankie Rose Limitless Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Midnight

Frankie Rose Limitless Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Midnight

I wear eyeliner every day of my life though I wear brown more than black. I was a little upset with another black eyeliner until I tried FRANKIE ROSE COSMETICS WATERPROOF GEL EYELINER in MIDNIGHT. This gel eyeliner is incredibly smooth and applies like a dream. It’s a rich dark shade that’s smudge proof and waterproof. When I use this I’ll use Reviva Labs Eye Makeup Remover to get it off. It won’t wash off but it’s doesn’t stain. I’m a fan of Frankie Rose Cosmetics so whatever Wantable wants to send me from the brand is wonderful. The eyeliner comes with a small brush (2 1/4 inch closed) that opens to 3 1/2 inches. I prefer my own brush but this is pretty decent. Like the Doucce mascara the price is $24 with my price being $10.67.

Manna Katar Eyeshadow Stick in Spellbound

Manna Katar Eyeshadow Stick in Spellbound

MANNA KADAR EYESHADOW STICK IN SPELLBOUND is the third item and one I was excited to see. If it’s eyeshadow then I want it. What’s not to love about a taupe eyeshadow? Welllllll – it’s sparkle city. But it’s not the kind of sparkle that falls down on the job. Once I put this eyeshadow crayon on everything stays where I put it. It sets quickly and there’s absolutely no fallout. My cheeks and under eyes don’t end up glittery. This $24 eyeshadow is great with the punk look of the mascara so these will be a couple. And I’ll do my eyebrows next time I wear them – oops.

The last item in my box is a SETA Eyeshadow Brush. This brush brand is new to me. I have Tools listed under my Love column in my preferences so I’m always happy to find a brush, especially one for my eyes, inside. This pretty teal brush is firm yet soft and is manmade and costs $18 (return value $8) but I couldn’t find any more information about the company.

SETA Eyeshadow brush

This month’s Wantable Cosmetic box has a value of $90 so you’d come out ahead with this $40 box. If you kept all the items then you’d have a $4 credit and next month’s box would be $36. Wantable has been sending out cosmetics for a few years now and they just keep making some great choices. When you are thinking of a subscription, think Wantable. — Marcia

Wantable Cosmetics subscription keeps getting better

Welcome to Wantable for June 2015

Welcome to Wantable for June 2015

I always look forward to my shipment of Wantable’s cosmetic subscription box. I know there’s going to be new to me brands and new to me cosmetics in the box. Wantable makes it so easy too because of their detailed survy and their generous return policy. You no longer have to return the whole box, you can return just the pieces that won’t work for you. A subscription is $40 but if you keep the entire box then the next month is $36. They work with some of the best brands too.

My personal likes and dislikes

DOUCCE LIQUID DEEP EYE LINER is the first item I used. Even though eyeliner is only in my like column, it’s really a product I love, I just don’t want to get too many. But when it’s a liquid eyeliner, I’m the perfect candidate. I prefer liquid liners and this is a great black liner. The point is very firm making it easy for me to use. When there’s a relatively short brush then the firmness helps steady the liner creating a line that glides on. This is a $24.00 value. Even though I had a Doucce lipstick in another Wantable box, I disliked the fragrance so I sent it back unused. That makes this the first Doucce item I own.

CHELLA WATER RESISTANT BLACK MASCARA comes at the perfect time. Summer heat and Marcia do not go hand in hand. Having a water resistant mascara is perfect. This $25 mascara is formulated with Panthenol conditers and cocoa butter to moisturize lashes.

BODYGRAPHY CREAM SHADOW GLIMMER is the product that scared me. It’s so incredibly beautiful when new but it looked so shimmery and actually over the top

but…. that top layer is just for looks and once it’s used the color is stunning and quite wearable.

Bodyography Cream Shadow in Glimmer

Glimmer is a cream eyeshadow (love that) that has a metallic shine. It’s not glittery or shimmery, it’s metallic goodness. They say that the top layer is made of crushed pearl. It can be worn as a base, alone or part of a beautiful eye look. ($20 value)

POUT SHOUT LIPSTICK in BE LIGHTFUL ($15) is another new brand to me and a great shade for this box of beauty and for me. This peachy nude is fragrance free, creamy and a pleasure to wear. It’s like someone at Wantable looked at my lip drawer and said “this one’s for Marcia”.

Wantable came through for me this month with 4 products worth $84 that I’m thrilled with owning. It’s exciting to have the Bodyography Glimmer shadow and the Pout Shout Be Lightful lipstick plus 2 staples that I use daily. Join me in an adventure with Wantable Cosmetics. You’ve got nothing to lose and a lot of beauty to gain. — Marcia

New products on the horizon from Rimmel and MODELlauncher

Recently I was sent an email about a brand that’s newly launched. I’m always excited to find new lines and MODELlauncher looks to be one that I could fall for.

model launcher

This new brand launched with 27 products for eyes, lips, and face. The prices range from $12-40 making this a nice mid-range concept. The shades feature bold and vibrant hues as well as softer shades and neutrals.

What looks the most appealing to me are the eyeshadows (of course)

While I don’t own anything from the brand I’m hoping to get some to share with you. Us makeup fanatics are always looking for something new.

RIMMEL LONDON has a new mascara that I’ll be sharing with you soon. It’s called WONDER’LASH and its supposed to be great for separation and definition with it’s Ultra-Flex brush. What makes this more unique is that it conditions your lashes with Argan Oil. Conditioning and definition make this a mascara I’m eager to try.

You can learn more about Wonder’Lash by watching their YouTube video featuring Elizabeth Fraley who has a great secret to share with us.

What items are on your horizon? I’m always on the lookout. — Marcia
