Bouncing my way to beauty with Beauty Junkees

I’ve been a devoted bouncer ever since the first pink makeup sponge became available. At the time I was the editor of a beauty forum and we’d talk at length about this sponge and wonder who would spend $20 on a sponge. I wasn’t the first to take the plunge but I was the second and it converted me to a believer. I bounce my foundation on for a perfectly smooth and blended application.

I no longer have to spend $20 for one sponge though because Beauty Junkees Pro Makeup Blending Sponge set was sent my way and I’m in bouncing heaven. Beauty Junkees sponge set gives me 4 uniquely shaped sponges to use for … hold onto your seat … $14.97. I was amazed by the price but what amazes me more is the quality of these sponges.

Beauty Junkees Pro Makeup Blending Sponge Set

Beauty Junkees Pro Makeup Blending Sponge Set

There are 4 sponges so there’s even enough for the person that “borrows” your beauty items (and doesn’t return). But you might just fight for the right to use them all.

Starting with the basics, this is the best way to use these blending sponges:

  1. Get the sponge wet by holding it under water while softly squeezing the sponge so it absorbs the water. You’ll notice that it doubles in size and becomes soft.
  2. Now gently squeeze out the excess water since you don’t want this drenched. It’s recommended to dry it with a soft towel too so that the sponge feels damp.
  3. It’s application time – apply the product onto the dampened sponge and bounce, aka stipple, the product onto your skin. Do NOT rub back and forth or you take away to specialness of using the sponge.
  4. There are so many products you can use with a sponge so having a variety is an ace in the hole. Try skincare, concealers, blush, and foundation.

Let’s start with the Pink Teardrop since that’s the standard one that everyone wants. To me this is the perfect sponge. I use the bottom for foundation on my entire face. The curve allows it to blend well along my jawline while the point is great for the area around my nose and eyes.

Beauty Junkees Pink Teardrop

The Purple Pear can be used for all of the above areas but because it has an ergonomically designed shape it helps with grip. It’s great for the wider areas of your face.

Beauty Junkees Purple Pear

The Green Oval is the slimmest one and helps with more exact application. I like to blend cream blush with it since I can erase errors when I go too wide and I can blend the edges so that there’s no harsh lines.

Beauty Junkees Green Oval

The Blue Sculptor is the most versatile of the 4 brushes and the one I like to use dry at times. The flat bottom works well to dip into a loose transparent powder and bounce on my skin. It doesn’t pick up too much powder and once I’m done I can go over it to soften the look even more.  It’s also a great one for applying moisturizers, SPF, neck creams, and night creams.

Beauty Junkees Blue Sculptor

When I was reading the directions I learned how to clean these the best way. I never thought to do this but it works and you can do this with brushes too. Use olive oil along with soap and water. The rationale is that oil will clean oil. The first time I did this I was amazed at how clean my sponge came out. Use warm water to moisten the sponge, use a dime size amount of olive oil along with a gentle soap. Massage the sponge under running water until there’s no makeup residue coming out. Then squeeze out the excess water and let it air dry. I love this method.

4 sponges, 4 + uses and 4 beautifully bright colors can now make up your sponge wardrobe from now on. Beauty Junkees is sold on Amazon with free shipping if you have Prime or have the minimum Amazon order to receive free shipping. At $14.97 currently it’s a total steal ($3.74 per sponge!). The quality is excellent and the uses many.

Artis Oval Brush 10 is luxury at its finest

What could possibly be softer than a baby bunny’s ears? What could be more luxurious than a yacht taking you to an island vacation? What could be more exciting to have in your brush collection than ARTIS MAKEUP BRUSHES? Artis is a new brand to most of us but it’s about to take the cosmetic world by storm.

Artis Makeup Brushes are mostly oval with mirrored backs. They have CosmeFibre® fibers made of soft animal-free fibers. They are densely packed with the end of each fiber tapered to a microscopic tip that can’t be seen individually by the human eye. I was given the opportunity to try out ARTIS OVAL 10 BRUSH to my delight. This brush has over 250,000 bristles!

Artis Oval 10 Brush

Artis Oval 10 Brush

The Oval 10 brush itself is quite large (1 3/4″W, 1 1/4″ H, 8″ L) and is meant for powder but it does so much more. My friend Helen, from Lola’s Secret Beauty Blog, taught me to use this for foundation/BB-CC Cream application and I was thrilled to learn this method. It marries the best of two worlds with its softness and refined blending application. It is also supposed to be an excellent tool for smoothing on self tanners because of the coverage it gives.

Artis Oval 10 Brush

The curved handles are unusual at first sight but once you put this perfectly balanced brush in your hand, you understand the beauty of the ergonomics. The brush has a slight flexibility to it making it glide over the planes of your face with ease. And did I mention how soft this is??

There are 19 brushes (10 from Artis brushes and 9 from Fluenta) that have been created by one of the makeup industry’s innovators and a former MAC Cosmetics Senior Executive, Matthew Waitesmith. He focused on the challenges of makeup “self-application” and delivering superior cosmetic performance, while taking inspiration from how he would draw a human face.

Artis Elite 10 brush set

Artis Elite 10 brush set

Brushes range in price from $32 to $72 with several sets that are sold at Artisbrush.com, Net A Porter, and now QVC has a set too. Oval 10 is the $72 brush and once you see it and feel it you’ll know it’s worth that kind of money. I am so excited about this brush that I bought the QVC set and am waiting for it. For $89.00 I’ll be the owner of Liner 1, Oval 3, Oval 6, cleaning foam and a cleaning pad. I’m still lusting after Circle 1R after watching a demonstration and I’m sure that will be on its way to me too.

Artis has added an affordable luxury to my life that’s worth putting on your wishlist. I’ll report back on the rest of these unique brushes so you better start saving. — Marcia

The London SOHO New York Belle Organizer is just $9.99.  I am really impressed with the quality of this bag! I thought that with the princess theme, the items would be the same quality as typical kids stuff…but my daughters are going to have to arm wrestle me for this. The top has a wide zip-top design and the bag is much larger than it initially appears. The outside fabric is a smooth satin and the inside is an easy to clean liner with a silhouette design of Belle and the Beast dancing. It is beyond cute and totally functional.

Senna Cosmetics brushes are the way to go

Senna Cosmetics brushes I love

Senna Cosmetics brushes I love

I have a few things I have to get off my shoulders. I hope you are ready.

* I love cosmetics!

* I adore cosmetic brushes!

* Senna Cosmetics is one of my all time favorite brands.

That wasn’t too bad for either of us I hope. Earlier today I reviewed some of Senna’s cosmetics including their In the Mood for Nudes collection, Slipcover Foundation, HD Eye Lift and Baja Matte Bronzer. That Makeup Wars review was so long it spilled over into this one that’s specifically about the Senna brushes I have. I’ve owned 4 of these for years and I was lucky to receive 5 more from Senna.

Senna Cosmetics

Senna Cosmetics

Airbrush Blender brush 25 ($40) is what people call a skunk brush. It’s black bottom fibers are dense while it fills out into looser white fibers that do the work. This is a brush you need in your collection if you don’t have one already. It’s a multi-tasker that works great for bronzer and highly pigmented powders. I use it too for a highlighting powder to give an airbrush appearance. “Softly shagged dual synthetic and natural hair and dual length brush seamlessly applies and blends liquid, cream and powder foundations and bronzers.”

Airbrush Blender brush 25

Senna Airbrush Blender brush 25

Foundation 39 Brush ($30) is a brush that everyone needs to have in their brush collection. It’s possible to apply foundation with your fingers but you don’t always get the ideal coverage that way. This brush is both soft and firm. The tapered point helps you in the crevices of your face, especially around your nose. It works equally well with liquid and cream formulas but it’s a necessity for a cream since your fingers just won’t cut it with something like Slipcover Foundation. If this isn’t enough to convince you, use it with moisturizer, primer or cream blush. See all the uses!!

Senna Foundation 39 Brush

Senna Foundation 39 Brush

Multi 24 Brush ($20) is one I didn’t know I was missing in my life until it came my way. I love this little guy. “This is the go-to tool for concealing, blending, un-smudging, priming and more.” What a treasure. You can use this at home or on the go. Just use it!! You’ll thank me.

Senna Multi 24 Brush

Senna Multi 24 Brush

Angle Brush 506 ($20) is a great blush brush that I’ve had for years. It’s so soft and so accurate. “Rounded front angle covers the apples of the cheeks and narrow tapered end softly blends color off the edge of the cheek naturally.”

Senna Angle Brush 506

Senna Angle Brush 506

Baby Face 21 ($30) has been a favorite of mine for so long. I use it for everything. The size of the brush head is wonderful for blending anywhere on your face. It’s great for a pop of color on your cheeks, for a touch of powder (Senna HD Eye Lift) under your eyes, and for highlighting areas especially when contouring. “A Senna favorite and must have! An ultra-soft, pampering brush to apply loose powder in eye area to set concealers and brush on highlighter powders. Great for spot blushing and dusting color onto eyelids.”

Senna Baby Face 21

Concealer 12 ($18) is a synthetic cruelty free brush that does what it’s supposed to – it helps conceal! It’s on the firm side so that you can lay your concealer down and afterwards blend with it.

Senna Concealer 12

Senna Concealer 12

Deluxe Fluff 600 ($18.50) is a brush I use mostly for blending. It’s wide and soft. It’s very flexible. I’ve used it for an all over eyeshadow color but my favorite use is when my eyeshadows are all on and I use this to blend away the seams so my shadows are well blended.

Senna Deluxe Fluff 600

Senna Deluxe Fluff 600

Detailer 623 ($27) this is one of the first brushes ever created for Senna. It was designed to give a soft liner look. I find it works better for me to use it for a hint of color under my lower lashes. It can also be used on your brows or to apply lipstick precisely.

Senna Detailer 623

Senna Detailer 623

Brow Pro 40 ($20) is a double ended brush that meets all your brow needs. The firm angle tip on the brush side is great for precise work with powders. I like that it’s not bigger than my brows so that I control it, it doesn’t control me. And it doesn’t hurt like some brow brushes can. The other side is a spoolie (groomer comb) so that you can brush your brows both before and after makeup application. Use it first to tame your brows and get them into shape. Then use it after with a pomade to set your brows for an all day last.

Senna Brow Pro 40

These are only a fraction of the wonderful brushes from Senna. Out of these 9 brushes my must haves are the Brow Pro, Multi-Brush and Baby Face. These are unique and incredibly helpful. Which brushes would you pick? — Marcia

Becca The One Perfecting Brush

Becca - The One Perfecting Brush

Becca – The One Perfecting Brush

Sometimes you just can’t resist. The lure of the product is too much and before you know it you’ll find that product in a shopping cart and your fingers ready to hit “BUY NOW”. That’s how I am with brushes. I love a good cosmetic brush and always want to splurge on them.

BECCA THE ONE PERFECTING BRUSH is a brush to splurge on. I was sent this through my membership in iFabbo and it’s made my life that much happier. It’s called “The One” because it’s supposed to take the place of all your brushes or at least most of them. That’s not going to happen but it does work beautifully for certain applications.

Becca The One

Becca The One

Becca The One Perfecting Brush is supposed to cut your makeup application time in half by replacing 10 other brushes and tools: foundation brush, powder brush, contour brush, bronzer brush, stipple brush, fan brush, blush brush, kabuki and sponge. That’s a big job for anyone. The brush has a 3.5″ head that’s about 0.75′” wide. The Goat Hair bristles are very densely packed while being fluffy and soft at the same time.

Becca The One Perfecting Brush

Becca The One Perfecting Brush

Can I use this in place of 10 brushes? Not at all but what I can use it for makes it worth its $49 price. I’ve used this with foundation, pressed powder, loose powder, and blush without a problem. I can’t judge it on bronzer since I so rarely use that but I can envision it. The brush sides curve enough for blending the bronzer as you go along. With blush you need to be careful to only use one side of the brush so you don’t end up overdoing your application. It won’t be perfecting if you look like Bozo.

My favorite uses:

1) Liquid foundation – I dab the foundation on one side of my face and use the brush to blend it in. The brush doesn’t really absorb the foundation so it’s not using too much. I then switch to the other side of my face and then sweep the brush over the middle to merge the two. I always end with a swirling application since that seems to smooth away any lines that might be seen.

2) Loose powder – I use a loose powder (Purely Cosmetics Diamond Perfect Finish Powder or It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores) several times a week. I need a brush that will make the powder one with my skin and not just sit on top. Becca’s The One does a great job with that. This is another swirler.

3) Pressed powder (foundation or finishing powder) – I am still using Darac Beauty Sifted Blur powder (it’s over 3 years old). I hit pan a long time ago but it’s my favorite finishing powder and it’s no longer available. Becca and Darac are good friends now. The powder foundation I use is from It Cosmetics from a TSV (I love those things) and Becca The One is used with Celebration foundation now.

4) Blush – I only use this brush when I want a very natural blush look, something that gently enhances but doesn’t scream blush.

5) It has taken the place of my kabuki brush for powder but not for cream blush.

Becca are you the ONE?

Becca are you the ONE?

Is this brush “the one”? Not really but it’s a terrific brush for what it does do. It can take the place of many of your brushes and feel luxurious while it’s doing so. You won’t be tossing other brushes but you will be reaching for this often if you are anything like me. — Marcia

Touch Face Auto Make-up Device review and giveaway

Touch Face Auto Make-Up Device in two sizes

Touch Face Auto Make-Up Device in two sizes

We are so excited to introduce you to TOUCH FACE Auto Make-up Device. This device is an absolute gem and the two of us are thrilled that the company sent us a duo to share plus is providing the Tiara size for one of our readers. You want to know all about this machine so put on your reading glasses and sit back to learn.

Touch Face Crown and Tiara

Touch Face Crown and Tiara

TOUCH FACE is a handheld battery operated device that helps you with applications of skincare and foundations.

TOUCH FACE takes the place of all the other tools you’ve been using to apply foundation and it does so without getting your fingers messy at all. It applies in a circular patting motion with 5,000 automatic gentle pats per minute. This is unique because it doesn’t just vibrate, it uses a patting system.

Touch Face accessories

Touch Face accessories

Touch Face comes with two types of disposable puffs, called the Jelly Puff and the Marshmallow Puff. The Jelly Puff applicator is a silicone puff that helps your skin quickly and easily absorb nutrientrich lotions and creams onto your skin. The soft Marshmallow Puff applicator gently covers up blemishes, fine lines and wrinkles, and minimizes pores, giving your make up a perfect and glowing finish.

It was developed and made in Korea and is sold by Cosedifilo for £22.02 (Tiara) which is equivalent to $35.58 USD. We expected Touch Face to be really expensive so we were very pleasantly surprised to find out just how reasonably it is priced.

MARCIA’S SIDE: THE CROWN

Touch Face Crown

Touch Face Crown

There are several sizes of TOUCH FACE Auto make-up device and The Crown is the full size one. This is the one considered best for home use because it is taller but I wouldn’t have a problem traveling with this. It comes with its own stand to hold it but it also comes with a plastic cover for the sponge which makes it easier to take with.

Touch Face

Touch Face

From the day this arrived I’ve been infatuated with it. I’ve tried it with almost every foundation, tinted moisturizer and BB/CC Cream I own (which isn’t a small number). It’s made me fall back in love with certain products all over again. I haven’t used this in its alternative way of applying moisturizers for better absorption since I have other devices that I use but with the amazing vibration I feel, I know it would work well. With all my testing I’ve only found one foundation that it didn’t interact well with, all the rest look better than ever.

Touch Face dials

Touch Face dials

This gives me an airbrushed finish. Even with my 8X mirror I don’t see my pores. I practically need to be torn away from my makeup mirror since I’m so obsessed with the smoothness I see. It takes no extra time to use this, as a matter of fact I think it takes me less time. Their directions say to put the foundation directly on the white sponge but I prefer to dot it on my face and then use continuous circular motions to apply all over. When done I can redot if necessary where it doesn’t feel like I’ve used enough.

Touch Face turned on

Touch Face turned on

Look at that baby go!! This is easy to use because it’s small enough to easily hold in my hand similar to how a brush would feel.

LISA’S SIDE: THE TIARA

Well, doesn’t the name of this little device just totally fit ME?? Every morning I grab my tiara, give my face a little massage, and I am good to go! Actually, I am not much of a diva, but this is definitely a tiara I am not giving up any time soon.

Touch Face the Tiara

Touch Face the Tiara

As you can see, the Tiara is smaller than the Crown, which does make it perfect for travel. I also really like it because my vanity is super crowded as it is; this smaller device is all I could fit amongst the products already there, I am rather ashamed to admit.

Marshmallow Puff

Marshmallow Puff

Applicators for Touch Face

Applicators for Touch Face

I do love both puffs and the only foundation I found that didn’t work with the Marshmallow was powdered mineral foundation. The Tiara truly gives an airbrush appearance without the expense and without the spray fallout. Once you use the Jelly Puff to apply moisturizer, you will wonder how you ever survived before without it. This may be the smaller version, but it packs the same punch, and it’s so cute! Plus you can win one for yourself, so ENTER NOW!!

THE GIVEAWAY:

Cosedifilo has generously provided the Tiara model for one of our readers while at the same time giving us a discount code to share with all of you. The code is BEAUTYINFOZONE and it’s worth 20% off your purchase. Believe us when we tell you that this would make the makeup lovers in your life ecstatic to receive this as a gift or you can wrap it up for yourself so you have something very special to open on a holiday. Makeup Wars – my repeat purchases aka the holy grail

It’s that time again. Makeup Wars!  If you haven’t been keeping up with us, Makeup Wars is a series with over a dozen amazing bloggers on a variety of topics. Today we have decided it show you the items we buy over and over. I’ve chosen to call them Holy Grails since I prefer these to similar products. These are products I consistently purchase and assume I’ll continue to do so for years to come.
So what has Marcia chosen and why?

Mary Kay Oil-free Eye Makeup Remover has been a constant for at least 10 years when I unwittingly ended up at an MK party. Actually I enjoyed the experience especially because I bought my first eye makeup remover there. Now I try to buy two or three at a time. The two items that I find the hardest to remove are gel eyeliner and mascara. No matter how stubborn those two are the Mary Kay works. I shake, squeeze it on my cotton square, hold it to my eye for a few seconds and wipe gently. I rarely need to add more since it’s so effective. Plus it’s not oily so if I’m redoing makeup I only have to pat on a little water and I’m set. The MK leads to the next item…makeup war repeat marykay

DHC Silky Cotton squares. I’ve used other brands of pads but this is what I stockpile. Since I hate paying shipping I always buy enough to avoid that charge and I’m set for a year. I like these because they are soft yet sturdy and they never shed fibers. I also buy Shiseido’s version because  those are super soft. But DHC stands up to eye makeup remover better. I usually only need one square for both eyes. I also use these for toner and other light liquids. These cost $5.50 for 80 pads and I now see that DermStore carries them.makeup war repeat dhc

Another type of cleanser I love having on hand all the time is J.R. Watkins Hand Soap aka Natural Home Care Liquid Hand Soap. This comes in about 5 fragrances and is my favorite item to wash my hands with. I keep these in all my bathrooms. It’s  natural earth-friendly formula that is moisturizing without being sticky. It washes off cleanly without a residue. It’s only $4.99 at drugstore.com or Rite Aid and lasts me about 6 weeks. I buy the yummy citrus scents of lemon, orange and grapefruit.

makeup war repeat soap

YSL Touché Éclat   Another product I buy again and again. I buy this kind of concealer/highlighter from other brands all the time. I  probably have half a dozen similar products in my stash. But when it’s all said and done, this is my favorite. It’s not the best concealer but it brightens under my eyes making me feel more alive. I’ve got a few new brands of this type of concealer/highlighter I will be using to review, but they’ll always be compared to YSL TE.makeup war repeat ysl

Last in this list is the BeautyBlender sponge aka Beautyblender Makeup Sponge– accept no substitutes. I’ve got this type of sponge from Sonia Kashuk and MAC and they don’t compare. Other brands will tell you that they are as soft but they aren’t. I love my “Pink Egg” and have gone through quite a few. Mine almost always stains but it’s not entered in a beauty pageant – its job is to make my foundation look perfect and it succeeds. They now produce this in black and in white so if you choose those colors just make sure they are genuine. I’m a bouncer ladies but only with my Beautyblender.makeup war repeat sponges

Now that you’ve read my 5 choices let me know what you’ve been buying over and over again. Then when you are done do some clicking (bouncing) yourself to see what my fellow warriors have selected. — Marcia
