A Softsoap Pure Zen and Hydra Bliss Giveaway for some Me Time!

Me time – it is essential.  I have me time throughout my week.  I work and I’m a mom, so time alone doing something just for myself is extremely important to me.  I love to read so I always make time to curl up in my favorite corner of the sofa and catch up on my magazines.

My favorite corner and my magazines!

I also love to binge watch a fabulous show on Netflix.  My most recent discovery was Nurse Jackie.  The first few seasons were intense!  It wasn’t as great the last few seasons, but I still watched it all the way through until the end.

I work out twice a week with my trainer for me time – here he is.  His name is Mark and he owns Swift Results Personal Training.  He’s the best, although I have him in my phone as Mr. Grey because he is a total sadist.  But keeping physically healthy is very important to me, and it’s part of my me time.

Working out at Swift Results with Mark Swift

I also meditate and I have my own little corner where no one else is allowed.  This is where I start and end my days, saying thank you to the universe for all that is good in my life.  Speaking of starting and ending days, some people like to shower in the morning to start the day, others shower in the evenings.  I am a night-time shower person – I like to wash off the day and reset.  This is my me time during the week.  Softsoap knows the importance of me time, and they have developed their latest body wash collections to inspire you to take mindful showers and really enjoy your me time.  We have a great giveaway today so you can enjoy some blissful showers yourself!

Prepare to be wonderfully cleansed with Ao Skincare Prepare Cleanser

Is there something you do that is taking the lazy way out? Do you neglect to take off your makeup? Do you forget about finishing your face by adding in a polished brow? What about leaving off sunscreen since you’ve already put on your moisturizer? All of these are things you know you should change and now is the perfect time to do that.

Ao Skincare’s #1 Prepare Cleanser

I have to admit that I’m guilty of to often using Micellar Water to cleanse at night yet I realize that I’m not getting my skin as clean as I should. In my quest for better skin I’ve turned over a new leaf and am now using Step #1 from Ao Skincare, their Prepare Cleanser ($39.95 with free shipping).

Ao Skincare Prepare Cleanser

samples

This is a cleanser unlike the others in my routine and that’s what makes me like it so much. It’s actually a Dry Cleanser – but that needs to be explained. You apply Ao Skincare Prepare Cleanser to your face as a first stop. Apply it before you use water. Then massage it gently in before you activate it with warm water. That transforms Prepare into a moisturizing cleansing milk.

Ao Skincare Prepare Cleanser

I find that it’s great on the days I’m wearing makeup and that I’m reaching for it every time I have on foundation because it really cleans my skin yet doesn’t strip it at all. There’s a very gentle fragrance that is so mild that no one would really notice it unless they were looking for it and the fragrance doesn’t linger in any way.

The outer packaging is a fun triangular shape but it’s the pump container inside that does the work.

Ao Skincare Prepare Cleanser

Ao Skincare is a company from New Zealand that uses rare botanical ingredients and includes Artesian water rich in trace elements. They use a cold process technology to combine the ingredients so that they remain as pristine and effective as possible.

Prepare Cleanser doesn’t dry out my skin since it contains a low level of surfactant (soap) in its formulation. It doesn’t strip skin of its natural oils.

Ao Skincare Prepare Cleanser

Directions say to apply two pumps of the cleansing gel to your face and use your fingertips to spread in a circular motion. I then apply warm water with my hands to create the milkiness and wash it off with a washcloth or muslin cloth. My skin feels well moisturized after and I’m comfortable even if I wait to put on further moisturizers and serums.

The key ingredients of this cruelty free cleanser are

  • Pure New Zealand Artesian Water  – this is sourced from one of the purest places on earth, an aquifer beneath the ancient Kauri forests in the lush far north of New Zealand.
  • Totarol  – an extract from the New Zealand Totara tree which contains powerful naturally sourced antioxidants which actively clanse the skin.
  • Phormium Tenax (Harakeke) Seed Oil  – this contains omega-6 lineolic acid.

and Actinidia Chinensis (Kiwi) Seed Oil  – containing omega-3, alpha linolenic acid, which helps to maintain moisture in the skin and prevent drying and scaling.

What it doesn’t contain are sulfates, parabens, PEGS, TEA, Dea, mineral oils, petrochemicals or artificial fragrance.

I may never get to New Zealand but I trust that the country has some of the purest, untainted areas. The products in the Ao Skincare line all look wonderful and ones that would take 2018 into a new level of skincare for us. Taking care of ourselves is the perfect kind of goal and a resolution you won’t be tempted to break.  —  Marcia

My go-to for crazy winter skin? Paula’s Choice.

I don’t know what it is about winter but it sure makes my skin do crazy things. One day it’s so dry and itchy, the next day I have random blemishes…add into that mix wrinkles and hyperpigmentation and I am just a mess. I usually have my favorite skin care products that vary by season – products that I use in the summer when my skin is never dry and mostly oily, and products that I use in the fall and spring when I am a more predictably normal t-zone mix. But in the winter, I turn to Paula’s Choice more often than not to help my crazy lady skin get back to normal. Here are some of my favorites for my season of insanity.

Paula’s Choice Perfect Cleansing Oil

Cleanser is an issue for me – I need something that suits my t-zone in spring and fall, and something that suits my overall oiliness in the summer. In the winter, I need something that addresses my suddenly dry skin that isn’t so rich it sends me back to the blemishes I had at 16 – no way, not unless I also get the body I had at 16.

I actually prefer the Resist Cleanser for spring and autumn and the Skin Balancing Cleanser for summer, but for winter I adore the Paula’s Choice Perfect Cleansing Oil ($25). I don’t even need a separate makeup remover, and the oils in this – sunflower and coconut – hydrate my dryness without overdoing it and making me break out. It’s fragrance-free, and a small amount mixed with warm water takes off super stubborn makeup. I use it with my Foreo Luna for amazingly clean skin regardless of its current mood.

Paula’s Choice Pore Clarifying Charcoal Gel Mask

Paula’s Choice Pore Clarifying Charcoal Gel Mask swatch after drying

No matter what, in the winter my skin goes nuts and it transforms from super dry to super oily with blemishes and congested skin, seemingly from nowhere. When that happens I break out the Paula’s Choice Pore Clarifying Charcoal Gel Mask ($30) to banish the break outs on my skin.  I’ve used this for years now. The charcoal coaxes all that nasty stuff out of my pores without drying out skin, and the mask is actually a gel mask so it hydrates while purifying. My pores look smaller, I don’t look oily throughout the day, and I don’t break out – plus I don’t get that dryness that can happen with clay masks. It’s really perfect. Just apply this on clean dry skin and leave on for about 20 minutes. It doesn’t dry completely – that swatch on my hand had been there for 20 minutes when I took that photo. Oh, one more plus – this mask is so gentle you can use it every day if you want. Every single day. For real.

Paula’s Choice Rehydrating Moisture Mask

So, my skin is certifiably nuts in the winter, right? I wake up one morning and it’s an oily, congested mess. I wake up a week later and I am as dry as the Sahara Desert. When that happens, I switch to my Paula’s Choice Rehydrating Moisture Mask ($30). This mask is like a long, tall, cool glass of water for dehydrated skin. It works immediately to moisturize and soften skin. The mask is thick and creamy and doesn’t dry hard. It has great ingredients including jojoba, vitamin E, plant oils, antioxidants, amino acids and glycerin. You can use this every day if you want, as a regular mask that you wash off after 20 minutes, or you can use it as an overnight mask. It’s glorious.

Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Lotion

Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Lotion

The real miracle product for winter from Paula’s Choice is the Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Lotion ($29). This is a skin treatment that exfoliates, moisturizes, reduces pore size, and reduces fine lines and wrinkles. It does all of this and quickly too – you will get results very quickly and you won’t believe how terrific those results are!! If you have dry skin and blemishes, you need this. If you also have wrinkles, my goodness, get this. If, in addition to dry skin, blemishes, and wrinkles, you also have large pores, why don’t you have this???? Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Lotion has a pH range of 3.2–3.8. Use it after cleansing and toning – just a small amount as your treatment serum before moisturizing and it will get rid of dead skin, give you great skin texture, smaller pores, and less wrinkles. It’s fantastic.

In the winter, I also have my Paula’s Choice Lip & Body Treatment Balm ($15)  with me at all times. I reviewed this last week, you can read the full review HERE.

If you have crazy lady skin in the winter like me, definitely check out Paula’s Choice. She has loads of options that take amazing care of pretty much any skin care woe you may have!  – Lisa

Deliciously clean with Georgette Klinger Coconut Cleansing Milk and Coconut Facial Mist

I know, I know, it’s all pumpkin and cranberry these days, but I still can’t ever get enough coconut. For Thanksgiving, we didn’t served mulled wine or anything like that – we served what we call ‘mom’s drink’ – Malibu Coconut Rum with Diet Vernors.  Seriously, you’ve got to try it – everyone LOVES it, best drink ever! Anyway, coconut – I love the scent, and I love products that have coconut oil and coconut extract because they are so good for skin. My coconut muse these days is the fabulous Georgette Klinger because she has the most amazing coconut cleanser and facial mist.

The beautiful Georgette Klinger

Georgette’s story is really intriguing. She was Miss Budapest in 1936. She was given some cosmetics that gave her a terrible case of acne which spurred her interest in skin care. She had to leave Europe to escape the Nazi’s and opened a skin care spa on Madison Avenue in 1941. She was ahead of her time with her holistic, natural, and science based approach to skin care, an approach her line still follows to this day.

Georgette Klinger Coconut Cleansing Milk

I am head over heels with two of her products, the Coconut Cleansing Milk and the Coconut Facial Mist. The Coconut Cleansing Milk ($22) is a wonderful cleanser – first, it smells INCREDIBLE. I know my coconut scents and this is one of the best ever.  Deep, rich, fabulous. The ingredients are top notch – coconut oil, coconut extract, grape and cucumber extracts, everything you need to cleanse and soothe skin, hydrating and plumping, leaving it feeling soft and fantastic. This is a very gentle cleanser that will work on all skin types. If you love coconut, you will wonder what you ever did without this – and you’ll never want to be without it again. It’s that good, my friends.

Georgette Klinger Coconut Facial Mist

The Coconut Facial Mist ($9) is a perfect pick-me-up throughout the day, especially in the winter with the soul-sucking indoor dry heat. I use it to refresh my makeup during the day, or after a workout, or any time I just want a quick refresher. It smells delicious – not quite as intense as the cleanser, but still enough coconut to put a huge smile on my face. Ingredients include coconut, botanicals, and aloe extract, all things that skin just loves. This is a best seller for Georgette Klinger and I can see why.

Georgette Klinger products are made in the USA and are cruelty free, paraben free, and dye free. There is a very nice range of products so take a look – and whatever you do, pick up the Coconut Cleansing Milk.  It’s fantastic.  – Lisa

Multi-task while you cleanse with IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser!

IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser

I definitely need to have some confidence in my cleanser, so I was happy to hop on the IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser ($28) train. This cleanser is different from others in that it is a hybrid – cleanser and hydrating serum all in one. IT Cosmetics seems to be the master of multi-tasking, so of course this type of cleanser only makes sense! Why not cleanse and treat all at the same time? Works for me.

IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser

I was concerned that a cleanser/serum wouldn’t completely cleanse all of my makeup, since I tend to use full coverage products. If I don’t fully cleanse my skin I get some mean breakouts. I also thought it might be too heavy for my t-zone slightly oily skin. However, I was pleasantly surprised – this is very effective cleanser that definitely does the complete cleansing job. I use my Foreo LUNA, and I am sure you Clarisonic users will also be happy with this cleanser as well. I also tried it the old-fashioned way, just using my hands, and got good results – but I will say my results were even better with the LUNA. There isn’t a ton of lather since the cleanser is sulfate and soap-free, but you do get enough to feel that emotional satisfaction for cleaning that I find is helpful on some strange level.

IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser

The serum portion includes collagen and hyaluronic acid, which leaves skin nicely hydrated and plumped up right after cleansing. This means there isn’t that tight, cleansed feeling – instead, skin is soft and youthful looking, which I definitely prefer! I am thoroughly enjoying this cleanser and will use the entire tube and am betting it will be a repurchase for me.

You can find IT Cosmetics and Confidence in a Cleanser at Ulta and online at itcosmetics.com.  – Lisa

Getting all glowy with Pixi Beauty skin care!

samples affiliate links

People ask me all the time for an affordable and effective skin care and color cosmetics line, and I am always recommending Pixi Beauty.  If you haven’t picked some up at Target yet, you really need to do so pronto – Pixi has tons of wonderful options.  More of an online shopper?  Their website is easy to navigate and they always have great specials.  I recently tried some Pixi skin care and today I have three treats to share with you.

Pixi Beauty skin care has terrific packaging that keeps the efficacy of the ingredients intact.  I love the aesthetic, and the skin care theory is that skin should have a GLOW.  Exfoliated, hydrated, and treated skin has a natural glow that is only enhanced with great cosmetics, so Pixi Beauty skin care gives a wonderful foundation for their color cosmetics.

Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser

Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser

I read mixed reviews of the Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser ($18) from other bloggers before trying this exfoliating cleanser.  Here’s what Pixi Beauty says about it:

• A deep pore cleansing mud, enriched with 5% glycolic and soothing botanicals
• Formulated to provide effective cleansing, yet is mild enough for all skin
• Complexion is cleansed and gently exfoliated to reveal radiant and healthy skin
• Deep pore cleansing leaving skin clean and glowing
• Gently exfoliates and revitalizes
• Mud deep cleanses
• Glycolic acid enhances complexion’s glow

I am a big believer in double cleansing and always use a separate makeup remover first – I find that this helps treatment-type cleansers like this one be effective and do the job they are meant to do.  So keep in mind I first use a makeup remover, and after that I find the Glow Mud Cleanser to be very gentle exfoliator that is almost deceptive in its subtlety. I hardly notice that it is scrubbing or exfoliating my skin.  But over time it does a great job of decongesting pores, removing dead skin, and removing excessive oiliness.  I think this is a great exfoliating cleanser, especially for those with sensitive skin that is normal to oily.

Pixi Glow Tonic To-Go

Pixi Glow Tonic To-Go

If you are a fan of the Glow Tonic, then you will definitely love the Pixi Glow Tonic To-Go ($18).  This is a jar of pads that are pre-soaked in the beloved Glow Tonic, the alcohol-free 5% glycolic acid that keeps skin clear and bright.  It’s a dream come true for anyone traveling or camping.  These are so much easier to take in the car for a weekend away, or even to the gym to wipe down your face and neck after a workout.

These pre-soaked pads tone, brighten, hydrate, and gently exfoliate.
• Skin looks clearer & feels smoother.
• The ultimate travel-friendly, gentle skin renewal
• Formulated with 5% Glycolic Acid
• Suited for all skin types

No need to rinse after using a pad, just follow up with a treatment serum.  And I just happen to have a great recommendation for you from Pixi Beauty, imagine that!!

Pixi Overnight Glow Serum

Pixi Overnight Glow Serum

The Pixi Overnight Glow Serum ($24) is pretty close to perfect.  The packaging is fabulous – it keeps all the ingredients intact and ensures their integrity and efficacy.  The ingredients include 10% glycolic acid and arginine, which really will make your skin look amazing and glowy.  Your wrinkles and fine lines will start to fade and your skin tone will even out.  The exfoliation is soothed by cucumber and aloe vera, plus there lots of antioxiants like vitamins A, C, and E as well.  This is a great workhorse serum that your skin will absolutely love.

Exfoliate & soothe skin with this miracle serum that works while you sleep to reveal a brighter complexion
• Formulated with 10% glycolic acid & arginine
• Helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and fade sun spots over time
• Enriched with cucumber & aloe vera extracts to calm skin
• Vitamins A, C & E to nourish
• Suited on all skin types
• Not tested on animals
• Paraben free

The combination of these three products – first the Pixi Beauty Glow Mud Cleanser for initial cleansing and exfoliating, then the Pixi Beauty Glow Tonic To-Go Pads to sweep away any last traces of dirt, tone and smooth skin, and prepare it for treatment, and finally the fabulous Pixi Beauty Overnight Glow Serum to further exfoliate, diminish wrinkles, brighten and nourish skin – give you a dynamic trio that couldn’t result in anything but glowy, gorgeous skin.  I hope you head on over to Target soon to these skin care treats for yourself!  – Lisa

Love or lust? DERMA E Nourishing Rose Cleansing Oil and Microdermabrasion Scrub

Derma E Nourishing Rose Cleansing Oil and Microdermabrasion Scrub

samplesaffiliate links

Of course I have a crush on DERMA E – it’s natural, vegan, and it has such a great message! Recently I opened a box of goodies from DERMA E and the first thing I saw was this:

I immediately fell in love. Or lust. I wasn’t sure which.

Then I tested the products and my love affair became so serious I had to introduce this line to my mother.

Derma E Nourishing Rose Cleansing Oil

The first product I tried was the Nourishing Rose Cleansing Oil ($15.99). This cleansing oil easily removes all traces of makeup, even stubborn eye makeup, as well as any dirt and grime. It leaves skin super clean yet still soft and hydrated. The oils include Argan Oil which is full of wonderful antioxidants, and Jojoba Oil which is incredibly moisturizing and plumps up those fine lines. Just massage this oil onto dry skin, then wipe off with a damp cloth. The only drawback is those who are bothered by fragrance may not appreciate the fragrance oils, which are natural, but are still there. I am not usually a fan of rose but this doesn’t bother my nose. However, if rose scents aren’t your favorite I would recommend trying before buying.

Ingredients include:  Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (Plant Derived), Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Organic Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil*, Polyglyceryl-2 Caprate, Polyglyceryl-2 Sesquioleate, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Natural Fragrance Oils.

Derma E Microdermabrasion Scrub

Derma E Microdermabrasion Scrub

The second product I tried was the Microdermabrasion Scrub ($32.50). This is a very gentle but effective scrub that I think will work for everyone except those with extremely sensitive skin. The little scrubbies are crystals from Dead Sea Salt and they are very fine, which I prefer – it makes for a much more pleasant scrubbing experience.  It gets rid of dry, flaky skin and really works those blackheads out and clears congested pores. It leaves my face feeling incredibly soft and smooth afterward, and the difference in the appearance of my fine lines is quite noticeable.

Derma E Microdermabrasion Scrub

I also love to use this on my hands and cuticles, as well as my elbows and knees! If you suffer from ketosis pilaris, those little bumps on upper arms, then you will really love this scrub. It makes short work of those tiny bumps.

I am quite sure that once you give DERMA E a second look, it’s going to be much more than lust for you – it will be a long-term love relationship. They have tons of great products, but these two in particular are great ones to try.  – Lisa

Microdermabrasion Scrub ingredients include Purified Water, Aluminum Oxide, Stearyl Alcohol (Plant Derived), Stearic Acid (Vegetable Derived), Glyceryl Stearate Citrate (Vegetable Derived), Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Oil, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Carrageenan (Seaweed Derived), Kaolin (Clay), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Pumice, Maris Sal (Dead Sea Salt), Glycerin (Vegetable Derived), Glyceryl Stearate SE, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin.
