Multi-task while you cleanse with IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser!

IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser

I definitely need to have some confidence in my cleanser, so I was happy to hop on the IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser ($28) train. This cleanser is different from others in that it is a hybrid – cleanser and hydrating serum all in one. IT Cosmetics seems to be the master of multi-tasking, so of course this type of cleanser only makes sense! Why not cleanse and treat all at the same time? Works for me.

IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser

I was concerned that a cleanser/serum wouldn’t completely cleanse all of my makeup, since I tend to use full coverage products. If I don’t fully cleanse my skin I get some mean breakouts. I also thought it might be too heavy for my t-zone slightly oily skin. However, I was pleasantly surprised – this is very effective cleanser that definitely does the complete cleansing job. I use my Foreo LUNA, and I am sure you Clarisonic users will also be happy with this cleanser as well. I also tried it the old-fashioned way, just using my hands, and got good results – but I will say my results were even better with the LUNA. There isn’t a ton of lather since the cleanser is sulfate and soap-free, but you do get enough to feel that emotional satisfaction for cleaning that I find is helpful on some strange level.

IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser

The serum portion includes collagen and hyaluronic acid, which leaves skin nicely hydrated and plumped up right after cleansing. This means there isn’t that tight, cleansed feeling – instead, skin is soft and youthful looking, which I definitely prefer! I am thoroughly enjoying this cleanser and will use the entire tube and am betting it will be a repurchase for me.

Getting all glowy with Pixi Beauty skin care!

samples affiliate links

People ask me all the time for an affordable and effective skin care and color cosmetics line, and I am always recommending Pixi Beauty.  If you haven’t picked some up at Target yet, you really need to do so pronto – Pixi has tons of wonderful options.  More of an online shopper?  Their website is easy to navigate and they always have great specials.  I recently tried some Pixi skin care and today I have three treats to share with you.

Pixi Beauty skin care has terrific packaging that keeps the efficacy of the ingredients intact.  I love the aesthetic, and the skin care theory is that skin should have a GLOW.  Exfoliated, hydrated, and treated skin has a natural glow that is only enhanced with great cosmetics, so Pixi Beauty skin care gives a wonderful foundation for their color cosmetics.

Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser

Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser

I read mixed reviews of the Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser ($18) from other bloggers before trying this exfoliating cleanser.  Here’s what Pixi Beauty says about it:

• A deep pore cleansing mud, enriched with 5% glycolic and soothing botanicals
• Formulated to provide effective cleansing, yet is mild enough for all skin
• Complexion is cleansed and gently exfoliated to reveal radiant and healthy skin
• Deep pore cleansing leaving skin clean and glowing
• Gently exfoliates and revitalizes
• Mud deep cleanses
• Glycolic acid enhances complexion’s glow

I am a big believer in double cleansing and always use a separate makeup remover first – I find that this helps treatment-type cleansers like this one be effective and do the job they are meant to do.  So keep in mind I first use a makeup remover, and after that I find the Glow Mud Cleanser to be very gentle exfoliator that is almost deceptive in its subtlety. I hardly notice that it is scrubbing or exfoliating my skin.  But over time it does a great job of decongesting pores, removing dead skin, and removing excessive oiliness.  I think this is a great exfoliating cleanser, especially for those with sensitive skin that is normal to oily.

Pixi Glow Tonic To-Go

Pixi Glow Tonic To-Go

If you are a fan of the Glow Tonic, then you will definitely love the Pixi Glow Tonic To-Go ($18).  This is a jar of pads that are pre-soaked in the beloved Glow Tonic, the alcohol-free 5% glycolic acid that keeps skin clear and bright.  It’s a dream come true for anyone traveling or camping.  These are so much easier to take in the car for a weekend away, or even to the gym to wipe down your face and neck after a workout.

These pre-soaked pads tone, brighten, hydrate, and gently exfoliate.
• Skin looks clearer & feels smoother.
• The ultimate travel-friendly, gentle skin renewal
• Formulated with 5% Glycolic Acid
• Suited for all skin types

No need to rinse after using a pad, just follow up with a treatment serum.  And I just happen to have a great recommendation for you from Pixi Beauty, imagine that!!

Pixi Overnight Glow Serum

Pixi Overnight Glow Serum

The Pixi Overnight Glow Serum ($24) is pretty close to perfect.  The packaging is fabulous – it keeps all the ingredients intact and ensures their integrity and efficacy.  The ingredients include 10% glycolic acid and arginine, which really will make your skin look amazing and glowy.  Your wrinkles and fine lines will start to fade and your skin tone will even out.  The exfoliation is soothed by cucumber and aloe vera, plus there lots of antioxiants like vitamins A, C, and E as well.  This is a great workhorse serum that your skin will absolutely love.

Exfoliate & soothe skin with this miracle serum that works while you sleep to reveal a brighter complexion
• Formulated with 10% glycolic acid & arginine
• Helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and fade sun spots over time
• Enriched with cucumber & aloe vera extracts to calm skin
• Vitamins A, C & E to nourish
• Suited on all skin types
• Not tested on animals
• Paraben free

The combination of these three products – first the Pixi Beauty Glow Mud Cleanser for initial cleansing and exfoliating, then the Pixi Beauty Glow Tonic To-Go Pads to sweep away any last traces of dirt, tone and smooth skin, and prepare it for treatment, and finally the fabulous Pixi Beauty Overnight Glow Serum to further exfoliate, diminish wrinkles, brighten and nourish skin – give you a dynamic trio that couldn’t result in anything but glowy, gorgeous skin.  I hope you head on over to Target soon to these skin care treats for yourself!  – Lisa

Love or lust? DERMA E Nourishing Rose Cleansing Oil and Microdermabrasion Scrub

Derma E Nourishing Rose Cleansing Oil and Microdermabrasion Scrub

samplesaffiliate links

Of course I have a crush on DERMA E – it’s natural, vegan, and it has such a great message! Recently I opened a box of goodies from DERMA E and the first thing I saw was this:

I immediately fell in love. Or lust. I wasn’t sure which.

Then I tested the products and my love affair became so serious I had to introduce this line to my mother.

Derma E Nourishing Rose Cleansing Oil

The first product I tried was the Nourishing Rose Cleansing Oil ($15.99). This cleansing oil easily removes all traces of makeup, even stubborn eye makeup, as well as any dirt and grime. It leaves skin super clean yet still soft and hydrated. The oils include Argan Oil which is full of wonderful antioxidants, and Jojoba Oil which is incredibly moisturizing and plumps up those fine lines. Just massage this oil onto dry skin, then wipe off with a damp cloth. The only drawback is those who are bothered by fragrance may not appreciate the fragrance oils, which are natural, but are still there. I am not usually a fan of rose but this doesn’t bother my nose. However, if rose scents aren’t your favorite I would recommend trying before buying.

Ingredients include:  Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (Plant Derived), Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Organic Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil*, Polyglyceryl-2 Caprate, Polyglyceryl-2 Sesquioleate, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Natural Fragrance Oils.

Derma E Microdermabrasion Scrub

Derma E Microdermabrasion Scrub

The second product I tried was the Microdermabrasion Scrub ($32.50). This is a very gentle but effective scrub that I think will work for everyone except those with extremely sensitive skin. The little scrubbies are crystals from Dead Sea Salt and they are very fine, which I prefer – it makes for a much more pleasant scrubbing experience.  It gets rid of dry, flaky skin and really works those blackheads out and clears congested pores. It leaves my face feeling incredibly soft and smooth afterward, and the difference in the appearance of my fine lines is quite noticeable.

Derma E Microdermabrasion Scrub

I also love to use this on my hands and cuticles, as well as my elbows and knees! If you suffer from ketosis pilaris, those little bumps on upper arms, then you will really love this scrub. It makes short work of those tiny bumps.

I am quite sure that once you give DERMA E a second look, it’s going to be much more than lust for you – it will be a long-term love relationship. They have tons of great products, but these two in particular are great ones to try.  – Lisa

Microdermabrasion Scrub ingredients include Purified Water, Aluminum Oxide, Stearyl Alcohol (Plant Derived), Stearic Acid (Vegetable Derived), Glyceryl Stearate Citrate (Vegetable Derived), Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Oil, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Carrageenan (Seaweed Derived), Kaolin (Clay), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Pumice, Maris Sal (Dead Sea Salt), Glycerin (Vegetable Derived), Glyceryl Stearate SE, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin.

It’s getting hot with the July 2017 Your Bijoux Box!

July 2017 Your Bijoux Box

The hot, hazy days of July are here and so is a hot hot hot Your Bijoux Box! I love finding a box of surprises on my porch, especially when that box is full of accessories.  Woohoo! This month Your Bijoux Box sent me a statement necklace, a beachy necklace, earrings that go with everything, and a surprise fourth item, a body wash sponge that is perfect for travel.                   sample, affiliate links

July 2017 Your Bijoux Box

July 2017 Your Bijoux Box

The July Collection from Your Bijoux Box is a coordinated set of three jewelry/accessory pieces that complement almost any outfit, dressed up or dressed down. Each monthly box has three items for women (this month there were three items plus one extra item). The boxes are curated by stylists so although these are customized, everyone gets the same jewelry each month, although July had two color options for the earrings. A monthly subscription is $36 and there are options for a three-month ($103) or six month ($206) subscription. They ship to the US and Canada.

Catalina Turquoise Necklace

Catalina Turquoise Necklace

Catalina Turquoise Necklace:  I do love turquoise in the summer. It looks so stunning with tanned skin and breezy white clothes! The Catalina Turquoise Necklace is a gorgeous two strand necklace with art deco-style turquoise jewels. This is a beautiful piece that goes with everything from a string bikini to a maxi dress. It’s a fabulous summer statement necklace.

Summer Inspiration Necklace:  The second necklace in this month’s box of hotness is a delicate 14K gold dipped starfish with tiny crystals. It’s a wonderful everyday necklace by Lucky Feather and I love the inspirational message: “Wear this necklace and let your worries drift away towards the sea.  Ocean waters are both calm and rough, seek the peace that you desire.”  I haven’t taken this off since it arrived.

Huaca Pyramids Hoops by House of Harlow:  These hoops are classic and funky at the same time – and that isn’t easy to do. The tiny spikes make me feel just a little rebellious, but the size of the hoops make them also feel deceptively conservative. I love it! The Huaca Pyramid Hoops come in either silver or gold, mine came in silver. They are staples that I will reach for over and over.

Beach Grass Spongette

The bonus item this month is the Beach Grass Spongette, a sponge full of cleanser. Put it under water and squeeze for lots of soap. What a genius idea for travel. Nothing to spill, nothing to worry about at the airport. Just squeeze out any excess water after your shower or bath and the sponge is good to go for next time. It’s really perfect for any last-minute summer trips.

The July 2017 Your Bijoux Box  is totally hot and perfect for summer. Your Bijoux Box continues to be one of my most favorite subscription boxes and a great surprise to find on my porch!   – Lisa

Super charged skin care with VENeffect!

VenEffect

One of the best things about beauty blogging is, of course, finding really terrific new lines that truly work. One such line is VENeffect. Marcia and I both are very impressed with the products we’ve tested – Marcia reviewed several things a few weeks ago, be sure to take another look at her review HERE. Just to remind you, here are a few things you should know about VENeffect:

  • The line was created by sisters (Dr. Rebecca Booth and Cecil Booth) who are both in the wellness business.
  • They discovered that women are affected by hormonal aging yet there was little in the way of solutions for it.
  • The Booth sisters created VENeffect as their breakthrough anti-aging solution to reverse the signs of hormonal aging. Their goal – to restore skin to peak hormonal vitality.
  • VENeffect is the “only anti-aging skin care line formulated with a unique and powerful blend of 100% natural phytoestrogens to enhance collagen and improve elasticity in skin.”
  • VENeffect is hypoallergenic, synthetic fragrance free, gluten-free, and paraben free. Made in the USA.

Marcia and I both tried the same VENeffect cleanser but we tried two other different products to give you a wide range of items from this really cool line.  Here’s what I found in my adventures with the cleanser, serum, and neck cream.

VenEffect Pore Minimizing Cleanser

VENeffect Pore Minimizing Cleanser

VenEffect Pore Minimizing Cleanser

VENeffect Pore Minimizing Cleanser

VENeffect Pore Minimizing Cleanser ($60) is a huge 5.1 fl. oz tube of cleanser that not only cleanses away the day, it also really takes care of your skin. It reverses the signs of aging, stimulates collagen and hyaluronic acid, and it makes skin glow and look healthy.

  • Willow bark helps minimize the appearance of pores, removes excess sebum, and fights shine
  • Phytoestrogens, including soy and pomegranate, enhance luminosity
  • Pomegranate enzymes remove dead skin cells, revealing healthy skin
  • Cucumber and grapefruit extracts refresh and renew

This is an interesting cleanser that is clear and slippery. It doesn’t foam up at all, which takes some getting used to. Even though it’s not ‘soapy’, it still works fine with my Luna. I do use a separate makeup remover for my eye makeup because this doesn’t take mascara off well – it’s more of a skin treatment cleanser. Since I always double cleanse (using a makeup remover first to make sure my liquid cleanser really penetrates) I love the skin treatment qualities that the VENeffect Pore Minimizing Cleanser provides, and I think this is an excellent option particularly for those with oily skin or with an oily t-zone.

VenEffect Firming Phyto-Lift Serum

VENeffect Firming Phyto-Lift Serum

VenEffect Firming Phyto-Lift Serum

VENeffect Firming Phyto-Lift Serum

VENeffect Firming Phyto-Lift Serum ($195) firms skin and brightens up skin tone.

  • Instantly lift and firm face, neck and décolletage
  • Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Brighten and even skin tone
  • Increase elasticity
  • Inspire collagen resulting in a youthful glow

It has an elegant formula with an interesting ingredient – 100% natural oat extract. Hmmm….this was new to me. I did some research, and this is one of the best skin soothing ingredients there is. It’s also known as Avena sativa, for my fellow skin care geeks. The combo of the 100% natural oat extract with the phytoestrogen technology means tight, lifted, brightened skin that looks glowy and youthful. Oh, and no silicones, alcohol, or fragrance.

VenEffect Firming Neck and Decollete Creme

VenEffect Firming Neck and Decollete Creme

VenEffect Firming Neck and Decollete Creme

VENeffect Firming Neck and Decollete Creme

VENeffect Firming Neck and Décolleté Creme ($155)  I have a bit of an addiction to neck and décolleté creme. It could be worse, right? Hey, if I am going to be addicted to something, this might be expensive but at least it’s not going to kill me. Neck and décolleté creme always feels so luxurious to me, like I am totally spoiling myself. I just love it. And this one is really special – it’s so thick and creamy, so fabulously hydrating…I want to take a spoon and just eat it. Ok, so that might kill me. Never mind.

  • Diminishes and helps prevent the appearance of deep wrinkles
  • Firms and smooths the delicate skin of the neck and chest area
  • Increases elasticity
  • Brightens and evens skin tone
  • Inspires collagen resulting in a youthful glow

I love that this neck cream is fragrance-free and it really reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I can feel free to wear any perfume that I want without worrying about it competing with my skin care and I know that the area that gets the most sun – my neck and chest – is also getting deep treatment all day long. Wonderful!

I am beyond impressed with VENeffect and I think you will be too. I hope you will try this excellent line developed by sisters who know just what women need.  You can find VENeffect at specialty beauty stores and online at VENeffect.com and Dermstore.com.  – Lisa

A Touch O’ Tatcha Polishes Your Skin

Tatcha is a luxurious Japanese skincare line that I was anxious to try. The line is based on “Japanese beauty secrets passed down by generations that took a different approach to skincare – that less is more.” Scientists from Japan and the US have worked together to create the perfect blend of anti-aging superfood for our skin.

Tatcha Dry Skin Ritual (image courtesy of tatcha.com)

Tatcha Dry Skin Ritual (image courtesy of tatcha.com)

I ordered the Dry Skin Ritual kit and while all the products performed well, the Polished Gentle Rice Enzyme Powder was the stand out for me. There are four versions of this powder for regular, sensitive, dry, oily skin.

Tatcha Rice Enzyme Powder

Tatcha Rice Enzyme Powder

You use this powder as a second step in a two step (using the cleansing oil first) cleansing ritual. I use it in the morning (you can use it twice a day) on water-moistened skin. Into my wet hands, I shake about 1/2 teaspoon of powder and rub my hands together to get a lather and massage it into my face and neck. Rinse off and you’re done but your skin looks polished and clean.

I am going to buy this in the full size as the kit came with a smaller jar.  Tatcha, I gotcha in my skin care ritual.  — Phyllis

Formulated without:
Mineral Oil, Synthetic Colors, Synthetic Fragrances, Sulfate Detergents, Parabens, PEGs, PPGs, Urea, DEA, TEA or Phthalates.

A Travel Size of this is available for $15 and the full size is $65. Available at Tatcha’s website, Sephora, full size on QVC.

Mask of the month: Better Skin Lava Magik

lava magik

When you think of lava what’s in your mind? Black or ash colored gritty yet moist ooze came to my mind when Better Skin offered Lava Magik for me to use and review. At first I wasn’t so sure but then I remembered that one of my very favorite moisturizers ever is Better Skin Mirakle Cream so I gladly agreed.

Remember my fear about the color? Gone the instant I opened the jar of Lava Magik. No black, no ash, no grit, no slime. Just a beautiful orange colored and fragranced exfoliating mask for me to enjoy.

Better Skin Lava Magik

Better Skin Lava Magik

Lava Magik is a triple duty product that I’m enjoying incorporating into my skincare routine. Not only is it a mask but it’s also a cleanser and a scrub. Three for the price of one. Also one jar taking up residence on my vanity instead of three products so it’s space saving too.

Better Skin Lava Magik

Better Skin Lava Magik

But the beauty of Lava Magik is how it performs. Cleansing and exfoliating are two of the benefits of this jar. I either do a quick cleanse with it to refresh my skin at the end of the day by adding water in the palm of my hand, washing, and then removal with a wash cloth. For exfoliation use this one or two times a week on damp skin. Massage it in with circular motions and after about 60 seconds you are done. Since there is some scrubiness to Lava Magik I recommend a wash cloth to remove it fully.

Better Skin Lava Magik

Better Skin Lava Magik

But it’s the mask that intrigues me and makes me want to use this. First it has an extremely pleasant orange fragrance that is sweet and true. It’s not artificial, it smells like the real thing.

Dampen your skin and apply this, letting it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. It slightly hardens but it doesn’t prevent you from doing anything else. You can go on the computer or read since it doesn’t slide off. You can even talk. And it doesn’t scare anyone that walks in on you.

After 10 minutes I wet my fingers and massage it in so I’m getting the exfoliation part. Then I remove with lots of warm water and a washcloth.

Better Skin Lava Magik

Better Skin Lava Magik

But you know all that from other exfoliators and masks. What you don’t know is that Better Skin created this with skin cleansing volcanic lava from France enriched with nourishing calendula, sweet orange and grapeseed oils, cucumber, parsley, and chamomile for healthy radiant, more youthful looking skin.

Now for the many benefits (from betterskin.com):

  • A cleanser, scrub & mask
  • Excellent antibacterial, anti-viral, anti-yeast fighting skin cleanser
  • Buffs away dull surface cells creating a youthful glow
  • Retexturizes skin, leaving it soft, smooth and younger-looking
  • Helps diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars
  • Absorb excess skin oils
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Helps prevent acne outbreaks
  • Stimulates collagen production
  • Helps calm rosacea, psoriasis and eczema
  • Rich in minerals
  • Minimizes pores
  • Minimizes blemishes

Better Skin Lava Magik leaves my skin so soft and prepped for makeup. I can use this mask morning or evening and since it’s so fast and not messy it doesn’t interfere with my routines. Using Better Skin Mirakle Cream is a delightful way to complete this treat but it works well with any moisturizer I’ve used it with.

Better Skin Mirakle Cream and Lava Magik

Better Skin Mirakle Cream and Lava Magik

Lava Magik is happily my mask of the month and will continue to be used for many months since it’s got a lot of magik/magic to it.  —  Marcia
