Melt away your face of the day with CLOVE + HALLOW’s Makeup Melt!

CLOVE + HALLOW’s Makeup Melt

I am a huge proponent of double cleansing – I love how using a makeup remover then using a cleanser keeps my skin from breaking out and really preps it for my skin treatment products.  However…I am always up for anything that saves me time! Not only does CLOVE + HALLOW Makeup Melt promise to literally melt makeup, dirt, and oil off as effectively as double cleansing, it also promises to multitask as a balm for lots of other skin issues. Of course I had to check it out.

CLOVE + HALLOW’s Makeup Melt

CLOVE + HALLOW’s Makeup Melt

CLOVE + HALLOW’s Makeup Melt ($28, is a PETA-certified cruelty-free and vegan makeup remover and cleansing balm that has a semi-hard texture that becomes an oil when it comes into contact with your body warmth. It reminds me of coconut oil, which is probably because fractionated coconut oil is the main ingredient. You use about a dime size amount, which melts into oil as you rub your hands together, then you gently rub this onto your face. It doesn’t sting eyes at all and wow – it really does remove all traces of makeup, even waterproof mascara! Just wipe it off with a wet washcloth and skin is super clean and wonderfully soft and hydrated.

CLOVE + HALLOW’s Makeup Melt

Other uses for this multi-tasker include using it as a balm for scrapes and dry areas, for calming frizzy hair, and for softening cuticles. I am also impressed that CLOVE + HALLOW products are cruelty-free, vegan, and made in the USA but every product they make is formulated to stricter EU standards.

The bottom line? Makeup Melt is a fantastic PETA-certified cruelty-free and vegan makeup remover AND cleanser. It’s a great way to remove your face of the day! – Lisa

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser and Skin Repair™ Moisturiser

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser and Skin Repair™ Moisturiser Normal/Combination

I am always up for trying new skin care lines and Liz Earle is one that has me surprised and delighted. Sometimes I find a product that I know will become a forever favorite and I have found one from Liz Earle Naturally Active Skin Care. This line was created in 1995 and it’s cruelty-free and made with ethically sourced botanical ingredients. I tested the Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser ($24) and the Skin Repair™ Moisturiser Normal/Combination ($40), and one of them will forever be in my skin care lineup!

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser

I had my doubts about the Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser ($24) for several reasons going in. First, I am a huge believer in double cleansing. I get amazing results when I start by cleansing with a makeup remover then a creamy cleanser. I tend to use full coverage concealer and foundation and I also use dramatic mascara so this system of cleansing never lets me down. The Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser challenged me to rethink this method. This cleanser comes with two pure cotton cloths so you can always have one on hand whilst one is in the wash. You apply the creamy cleansing cream to dry skin – go ahead, smear it right over those eyeshadow and mascara covered eyes – then wipe it off with the warm, damp cotton cloth. This exfoliates and cleanses the skin, taking off makeup and exfoliating the dead skin cells at the same time. Like I said, I was skeptical…my makeup is pretty bulletproof and it needs a heavy-duty cleanser. But I am impressed! This cleanser cleans everything off, no problem. It leaves my skin feeling amazing…soft, hydrated, and clean clean clean. Even my eyes! No need at all for any makeup remover.

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser cleansing cloth

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser

Second, I was a little reluctant to put this around my eyes because it has eucalyptus as an ingredient. It even smells a little like menthol. I thought for sure this is going to burn…but nope. It’s so gentle. I put it all over my face, all over my eyes, and absolutely no problem at all.

Third, I thought it would be too much to exfoliate every single day. Wrong again Lisa! The exfoliation is very gentle but wow does it make a difference.  My skin has never looked so good.  Soft and glowy and so smooth…it makes a huge difference.

I follow the Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser with a toner, a treatment serum, and then the Skin Repair™ Moisturiser Normal/Combination ($40). This is a very nice creamy, non-greasy moisturizer that is hydrating and soothing. It plumps up skin so it helps reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles. The major ingredients are very nice, including avocado and borage oil, vitamin E, and echinacea. This is a medium weight moisturizer that is best for normal to combination skin. It would be too heavy for oily skin, and probably not moisturizing enough for very dry skin.

Skin Repair™ Moisturiser Normal/Combination

Skin Repair™ Moisturiser Normal/Combination

I like both products, but the real winner and the one that I will repurchase over and over is the Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser. With the 600 different cleansers I have on my bathroom counter, this is the one I reach for over and over. It’s a winner!! You can find Liz Earle products online at, on, and in the UK at various stores and boutiques.  – Lisa

Bloom Mineral Beauty helps us with all our anti-aging needs #bloommineralbeauty

We are happy to introduce you to a brand that’s new to us – Bloom Mineral Beauty! There are so many things that we discovered about Bloom including that their products utilize exclusive Dead Sea Minerals that help make you look and feel radiant, hydrated and renewed. All of their products are free of paraben, petroleum, GMOs and are cruelty free. Now we don’t necessarily dislike aging but we do dislike looking like we aged. After over 9 years of Beauty Info Zone and 10 years of writing about beauty prior to our blog we’ve learned what will help us look as young as when we first started. Bloom Mineral Beauty is on that list!

I have two of Bloom’s purifying products that you’ll want to know about. For face is their Purifying Mud Mask and for face & body there’s the Hydrating Almond Scrub. Where do I begin?

Bloom Mineral Beauty Purifying Mud Mask and Hydrating Almond Scrub

The Purifying Mud Mask is getting less use from me than the Almond Scrub but that’s only because I use a wide variety of masks and mud masks fit into my routine about every 2 – 3 weeks. I have dry skin and mud masks are primarily for more oily skin. But I think my skin loves them too.

The Bloom Mineral Beauty Purifying Mud Mask is special because of its ingredients. Bloom says it’s a magical combination and I know why after applying this several times. It contains black Dead Sea mud, olive oil, honey, and aloe vera. Together they provide for a deep clean but they also protect the skin’s barrier.

Bloom Mineral Beauty Purifying Mud Mask

Bloom Mineral Beauty Purifying Mud Mask

The texture is very mud like – as it should be. It’s not uncomfortable to use and it doesn’t have a strong fragrance. It’s smells slightly earthy but nothing that bothers me for the 15 minutes I leave it on (recommendation time is 10 to 20 minutes).

Bloom Mineral Beauty Purifying Mud Mask

It doesn’t dry down completely so my face doesn’t crack. I make sure my hair is pulled way back with a shower cap or my Vintage Beauty rabbit ear headband, relax for 15 minutes, and then usually hop in the shower to remove it completely. I’ve removed at the sink too but I prefer the shower. Either way my face feels clearer and more refreshed.

Bloom Mineral Beauty Purifying Mud Mask

If you have oily to combination skin the Mud Mask is going to use natural anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties to kill bacteria and prevent breakouts. When I recently had chin breakouts this mask is what I used twice in one week and they were soon cleared up.

Bloom’s Hydrating Almond Scrub shouldn’t be used in combination with their Mud Mask but they can be used on the same day. The Almond Scrub contains both natural almond shells and mineral salts to exfoliate and reveal your radiant skin. I can use this as often as I like without a problem. Take this into your shower with you and scrub away on both face and body.

Bloom Mineral Beauty Hydrating Almond Scrub

Now looking at the photo below you’d think that the almond shells would be harmful for your skin but they are really ground finely enough that it’s not a very scrubby product. No hurting or tearing your delicate skin.

Bloom Mineral Beauty Hydrating Almond Scrub

Ingredients used help make this an extremely effective scrub. Start with dampened skin and massage a small amount on. Then wash off to reveal glowing skin. It takes just a minute to apply but a few more to remove completely.

  • Glycine Soja (soy) contains significant amounts of all the essential amino acids and is a good source of protein. It is derived from soybean amino acids and is rich in protein, minerals and vitamins, especially vitamin E.
  • Almond Shell granules create a very fine grit to manually exfoliate the skins surface of dead skin cells, delivering clear and radiantly smooth skin.
  • Maris Sal (Dead Sea Salts) provides the highest concentration of  key minerals and nutrients providing optimal hydration, skin nutrition and delivering anti-aging results.

Bloom Mineral Beauty Hydrating Almond Scrub

I really enjoy both products but I wish that the Bloom Mineral Beauty Hydrating Almond Scrub smelled like almonds since I could pretend I was eating something delicious and decadent.

My Bloom Mineral Beauty products cover several different areas, which shows the range in this very cool line. I have two facial products and one body product, and all three are winners in my book.

The Softening Cleansing Milk ($19.95) is a lovely, gentle cleanser that leaves skin feeling very soft and smooth. I typically double cleanse so I use a makeup remover first (my favorite is the Paula’s Choice Gentle Touch Makeup Remover) which removes mascara and such, then I use a facial cleanser. This one is great – it’s ph balanced and has wonderful ingredients like soy, glycerin and Dead Sea Salts.

This milky cleanser works great with a cleansing device like a Clarisonic or a Luna.  It leaves my skin clean and really soft and hydrated.

  • Glycine Soja (soy) Oil contains significant amounts of all the essential amino acids and is a good source of protein. It is derived from soybean amino acids and is rich in protein, minerals and vitamins, especially vitamin E.
  • Glyceryl Stearate is derived from palm kernel. This lubricant easily penetrates the skin and slows the loss of moisture by forming a barrier on the skin’s surface.
  • Maris Sal (Dead Sea Salts) provides the highest concentration of  key minerals and nutrients providing optimal hydration, skin nutrition and delivering anti-aging results.

I follow cleansing with the Balancing Facial Toner ($19.95), which also features Dead Sea mineral salts. I love that this toner is alcohol-free. It has a cooling and soothing effect thanks to the cucumber, which also makes this good for sensitive skin. I just spritz about three sprays onto a cotton pad and smooth it on after cleansing and my skin is soothed and perfectly prepped for my treatment serum and moisturizer.

  • Glycerin is derived from soybean amino acids and is rich in protein, minerals and vitamins, especially vitamin E. Nature’s perfect humectant.
  • Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Extract  contain vitamin A, C, E and K. Vitamin E which are vital for skin repair, especially for sensitive skin issues.
  • Chamomilla Recutita (chamomile) Flower Extract posses many powerful skin properties such as anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, antibacterial, antiseptic, and contains essential oils and antioxidants. Additionally, is a hypoallergenic and helps to reduce skin irritants by neutralizing free radicals.
  • Maris Sal (Dead Sea Salts) provides the highest concentration of  key minerals and nutrients providing optimal hydration, skin nutrition and delivering anti-aging results.

My last product is a body product – the Shielding Body Lotion ($19.95). This is a beautifully lightweight body lotion that is fluffy and fabulous. Usually body lotions that come out of a tube are a little sticky and a little heavy, but this stuff is fab – really hydrating with amazing texture. The ingredients say there is fragrance but I can’t smell anything, so whatever is in it is extremely light. The ingredients are wonderful and include the signature Dead Sea Minerals as well as aloe vera, soy, and glycerin which creates a moisture barrier that lasts throughout the day.

Bloom Mineral Beauty Shielding Body Lotion

  • Glycine Soja (soy) contains significant amounts of all the essential amino acids and is a good source of protein. It is derived from soybean amino acids and is rich in protein, minerals and vitamins, especially vitamin E.
  • Glyceryl Stearate is derived from palm kernel. This lubricant easily penetrates the skin and slows the loss of moisture by forming a barrier on the skin’s surface.
  • Aloe Vera with high concentrations of Vitamin C & E provide hydration, while it’s natural anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory benefits work to kill bacteria and sooth the skin.
  • Maris Sal (Dead Sea Salts) provides the highest concentration of  key minerals and nutrients providing optimal hydration, skin nutrition and delivering anti-aging results.

There are many wonderful things about aging and Bloom Mineral Beauty helps us focus on the positive while reducing the negatives thanks to great products and a little help from Dead Sea Minerals. Take a few minutes to check out the entire line at

My 3 musts for May or any time #farmhousefresh #ageloc #shickintuition

FarmHouse Fresh Vitamin Berry Facial Tonic, Schick Intuition f.a.b. razor, NuSkin LumiSpa Treatment Cleanser

As we are closing out the month of May I wanted you to know about 3 products that are getting a ton of love in my house. I sometimes forget when I use a product constantly that I should be sharing so I’m remedying that right now with three favorites.

samples, some affiliates

ageLOC LumiSpa

ageLOC LumiSpa charging

I reviewed the ageLOC LumiSpa from Nu Skin months ago but at the time I didn’t have the cleanser. The company graciously sent it to me so I can see why these two go together like mac & cheese or Harry & Meghan. Once I received the Treatment Cleanser my experience with the ageLOC LumiSpa went from great to awesome. The “brush” on the LumiSpa is unlike other cleansing machines so having this cleanser that’s included in the system makes my skin smoother and my pores cleaner.

ageLOC LumiSpa

ageLOC LumiSpa Treatment Cleanser

The cleanser is included in the kit and also can be purchased separately. There are five different types (sensitive, normal/combo, dry, acne, and oily) so that all skin types are covered by ageLOC. They are formulated to cushion your skin while the LumiSpa does it dual action job but they work well without the machine. This is a great addition to your skincare routine.

FarmHouse Fresh Vitamin Berry Facial Toner

As you can see from my recent photo of FarmHouse Fresh Vitamin Berry Facial Toner, it’s gotten a lot of use! In spite of the fact that I moan about fragrance in products, FarmHouse Fresh is the exception to the rule. Whenever FHF comes our way Lisa and I have to argue over who gets to review the products and happily I won this time. What sold me on this is the catchphrase: “Poof! go your pores.” As a teen I had very oily skin and awful blackheads. As an adult I’m glad that I had the oily skin since I’ve aged better because of it but the blackheads led to large pores that have plagued me all my life. So any time a product promises to help with pores I’m going to want to try it.

What makes this toner stand out is that it’s an alcohol-free toner that will smoothe skin while helping with moisture. It uses U.S. grown organic aronia berries which is one of the highest antioxidant fruits ever. It helps reduce the look of fine lines too. Now we all know that the pores aren’t going away so the best we can hope for is that they appear like they aren’t there. It contains Rose Water, Aronia Berry Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ascorbyl Glucoside.

Rose water – the steamed distillate of Rosa Damascena flower – hydrating, anti-inflammatory, and calming.

Aronia Berry extract – Contains the highest recorded antioxidant concentration of any fruit or vegetable.

Sodium Hyaluronate – the salt form of skin-identical hyaluronic acid – which can help boost skin’s moisture content and prevent moisture loss.

Ascorbyl Glucoside – a stable form of vitamin C and glucose – a combination that functions as an antioxidant to help skin preserve key substances needed to look younger and brighter.

FarmHouse Fresh Vitamin Berry Facial Toner

The smell is really delightful. I don’t care for rose so at first I was hesitant but it’s the berry that comes through. While you can spray it on during the day I like to use it on a cotton pad in the morning before moisturizer. FarmHouse Fresh is a brand that I totally trust, one that is 99% NATURAL | VEGAN | GLUTEN-FREE | NO PARABENS | NO SULFATES | NO PHTHALATES. Yes, you want this and need it!

Schick Intuition f.a.b.

Now the last is the Schick® Intuition® f.a.b.™. I don’t know how I lived without this. I received it and put it aside for a while since a razor is a razor is a razor. But this has two completely different blades in it so the concept of shaving has been turned on its head.

The unique razor head shaves both forwards and backwards. For someone who wasn’t encouraged to shave I never really knew if I was doing it right. But now I know and this head is the bomb. If you don’t want to buy the whole razor you’ll find that the razor head fits Venus razors too. I’ve already ordered refill blades.

Schick Intuition f.a.b. razor

The bi-directional blades allow you to shave either up or down without even lifting the razor. I admit that I have to shave certain areas on my face. I have dark, thick hairs that make me feel like people are staring at me. So about three times a week I shave those hairs. To get close to my nose I can now shave up! You don’t know how easy it makes it for me now.

The Schick® Intuition® f.a.b.™ razor makes shaving everywhere easier and almost enjoyable. No woman wants to shave legs, underarms or face but most of us need to. Might as well use a unique razor that was made with us in mind.

What are your May musts? I’m sure all 3 of these will be June musts for me too.  —  Marcia

Introducing USANA-Celavive skincare with a giveaway

USANA/Celavive Skincare line for sensitive to dry skin

As an introduction to Celavive Skincare I was sent the Vitalizing Serum to test out. I had spoken with an associate of the new skincare line from USANA and expressed my concerns about the fragrance. I love trying different brands of skincare but didn’t want to have the company send me a line that I couldn’t use. The associate was so kind and sent me the Vitalizing Serum to try and see how I’d fare with the line. I received it as I was waiting for a car to whisk me away for my three week overseas vacation so I quickly unwrapped it, applied some to my hand, knew I could use it, and took it with me in my carry-on. Therefore I’ve used the Vitalizing Serum for even longer than the rest of the line and now know I feel great about recommending these products.

USANA is a worldwide company and is sold in 21 markets. They introduced these skincare products that utilize Incelligence technology which works at the cellular level to provide the necessary nutrients to prevent aging and turn back time. Turning back time sounds like a good idea to me!

Their philosophy is that your skin cells—or keratinocytes—are responsible for creating a healthy barrier that keeps pollutants out and hydration in. They preserve the soft elastic tissues that boost the plump appearance of the skin from the inside.

The Celavive Cell-Signaling Complex also delivers botanical nutrients directly to the keratinocytes. These nutrients bind with the important signaling molecule PPAR to maximize hydration and optimize the natural lipid production needed to combat environmental stress, supporting your body’s natural defense against visible aging.

By supporting this natural defense process, additional lipids are introduced further into the soft layer of the skin, promoting the feeling of intense moisturization and plumping effects.

I have 6 products for sensitive and dry skin and I’ve been using them for over the last month (and the serum almost 2). My sensitive nose gives USANA/Celavive an okay since the items are not overly fragranced and nothing I notice is long lasting.

Celavive Gentle Milk Cleanser

For dry skin the Gentle Milk Cleanser is the recommended product. This is a creamy everyday cleanser that leaves my skin feeling hydrated while washing away the dirt, oil and cosmetics of the day. It lathers lightly on me and doesn’t leave a film behind. All of the Celavive line contains Olivol Botanical Blend which is comprised of fruit extracts that have been clinically shown to provide 24 hours of rich hydration after just one application.

Celavive Perfecting Toner

Next step is the Perfecting Toner. I know not everyone believes in using a toner but it really is a great step in a skincare regime. This is how you balance your skin and maintain proper moisture levels. Perfecting Toner aids in maintaining your pH level and readies your skin for your moisturizer. Like all Celavive products it’s paraben free.

Whether it’s day or evening there’s a specialized moisturizer for you. For dry to sensitive skin you’ll find Protective Day Cream and Replenishing Night Cream. For oily or combination skin there’s Protective Day Lotion SPF 30 and Replenishing Night Gel.

The Protective Day Cream makes me happy since it has four UV filters making this cream rich and keeping my skin protected. The day cream has SPF30 and wears well under my foundation. It contains Avoberizone 3%, Homosalate 10%, Octinorate 7.5%, and Octocrylene 2%. It’s rare to find that many filters in a moisturizer. Not only are you receiving a good amount of sunscreen protection but you’re getting great hydration from UVA/UVB rays.

Celavive Protective Day Cream

Celavive Protective Day Cream

Replenishing Night Cream wants to supercharge your sleep. Put your skincare to work while you finally get some rest. Now this is where I usually get in trouble with products that have fragrance but that hasn’t happened with this night cream. I smell green citrus with this so I’m thrilled. It’s not perfumed, it uses botanical extracts which works for me. The cream is lighter in feel than the Protective Day Cream but it’s just as rich. It’s meant to fight the appearance of wrinkles and restore your youthful complexion. I’m a fighter when it comes to wrinkles and Replenishing Night is making that fight more effective.

Celavive Replenishing Night Cream

Celavive Replenishing Night Cream

I’ve saved the best for last. I am a big fan of using serum on my face and a huge fan of eye creams. My personal goal is to try them all. I’m extra glad that I’ve got Celavive in my serum and eye cream corner.

The Vitalizing Serum is the product that I’ve used the longest. I’ve used this with a variety of skincare products, not just Celavive and it works wonderfully with everything. It’s a bit tacky when I first apply it but I let it settle in and then put on my moisturizer. I’ve been using this more at night than in the day since I usually am in a hurry in the morning and want everything done quickly.
Let’s look at what Celavive says that the Vitalizing Serum can do: “Dramatically reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, discoloration, large pores, and the visual loss of elasticity to restore a healthy, youthful radiance to your skin. After just one application, skin is noticeably younger looking. Featuring natural botanicals and cell-signaling peptides, this breakthrough, water-based formulation supports your skin’s natural beauty-preserving functions.”

Celavive Vitalizing Serum

The Vitalizing Serum has the strongest aroma of the rest of the line, it’s a light floral with emphasis on the light. I find it to be protective and works on all those fine lines. My pores aren’t different but then again it’s hard for any product to make those less of a problem for me BUT they are really only noticeable to me and in close up photos. The serum is the only serum that Celavive makes since it’s good for all skin types.

And then there’s the Hydrating Eye Essence. You know I can’t be without my eye creams, serums and now essence! Two things make this stand out to me. First the delivery system which is so refreshing.

Celavive Hydrating Eye Essence

The top brings a cooling feeling to your eyes which helps with depuffing and dark circles. This baby is one that gets used in the morning when I’m applying my face.

The second thing that makes this stand out is the formula which features a combination of cell-signaling peptides, avocado oil, apricot fruit extract, and gingko biloba extract to visibly lessen the appearance of dark circles, puffiness, and fine lines.

Celavive Hydrating Eye Essence

I like a slightly fuller eye cream in the evening so this Hydrating Eye Essence is my daytime choice. It doesn’t interfere with eye makeup since it dries down. It’s not as emollient as other products but it’s not a cream, it’s more of a lotion. I apply this before moisturizing, I don’t bring my moisturizer up to my eyes so they meet partway.

Now you have the story of my latest skincare regime. Celavive, owned by USANA, is a new line for the US market and can be purchased from their website. If you are like me and want to use products that will make a difference in your skin then you need to try this out sooner rather than later. To help you along Beauty Info Zone has a giveaway for the Vitalizing Serum that we’re excited to offer to one US/Canadian subscriber.

As usual there are two mandatory entries which are checked before announcing a winner. You absolutely MUST be an email subscriber to Beauty Info Zone and you must leave a comment. Not too hard is it? Of course that doesn’t mean that everyone does this so many people get eliminated. The giveaway is open through 5/24/18 at 11:59 p.m. EST. I hope that the winner finds that Celavive will make a big difference in their skin too.  —  Marcia

Pixi Liquid Fairy Lights in Crystalline, Rose Gold, and Bare Brilliance

There is a lot to love from Pixi and today I am crushing on Pixi eyes and lips.  My first date with LIQUID FAIRY LIGHTS ($15) was actually a total dud…but that’s because I thought these beauties were for lips! Yes, I used these liquid glimmer eyeshadows on my lips and was like, man, these sure are gritty. I can’t recommend these at all.  What a bummer, they are so gorgeous in the tube…how did Pixi get this so wrong?? Then I took a look at the packaging and just had to laugh!!

Pixi Liquid Fairy Lights in Crystalline, Rose Gold, and Bare Brilliance

So on my eyes they went for a second date and a true love affair was born. They are GORGEOUS. Even on my old eyes, these glimmery ethereal shadows are fantastic. They feel very interesting when applied – they go on wet and feel moist for a bit, probably thanks to the chamomile and rose extracts in the formula. They dry down in a few minutes and are so pretty. I love them by themselves, although you can also layer them over other eyeshadows if you want to add depth.

Pixi Liquid Fairy Lights in Crystalline

Pixi Liquid Fairy Lights in Rose Gold

Pixi Liquid Fairy Lights in Bare Brilliance

Pixi Liquid Fairy Lights in Crystalline, Rose Gold, and Bare Brilliance

Crystalline is a silvery sparkling white. Bare Brilliance is glimmering brown. Rose Gold is a shimmery golden brown. I apply them with the doe foot applicator (another reason I thought they were lip glosses!!) but you can use a brush or your finger.

Moving on to actual Pixi lip products, the MATTELAST LIQUID LIP ($14) is an excellent matte lippie. It lasts forever and doesn’t flake or become overly drying. It has rosehip oil in it which makes this easier to wear than many other matte lippies.

Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lip in Prettiest Pink

Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lip in Prettiest Pink

Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lip in Prettiest Pink

I really like the applicator – it’s called a PixiPetal applicator and Pixi says that it ‘provides even and precise application’ and I have to agree. You outline your lips with the point of the applicator then fill in the color with the flat side. My shade is Prettiest Pink, which is a very bright blue pink. It’s a little intense for my thin lips so I tone it down with some gloss. I want to try this in other shades that would work better for my lips, like Pastel Petal or Really Rose.

Pixi LipLift Max in Peony Bloom

Pixi LipLift Max in Peony Bloom

Pixi LipLift Max in Peony Bloom

I also love the LIPLIFT MAX ($14), which is Pixi’s plumping lip gloss. It gives lips a shiny, glossy look and has a fresh, minty taste. It has a nice slip that isn’t sticky at all, and the formula has peptides, aloe, jojoba, and chamomile that treats and hydrates lips while also plumping them up. Mine is in the shade Peony Bloom, which is a very pretty peachy pink. I just love it for spring!!

Pixi Skintreats: T-Zone Peel Off Mask, Rose Cream Cleanser, Rose Tonic

When Petra Strand started Pixi Beauty just 10 years ago you only knew about her radiant cosmetics but she always had a passion for skincare. Her first skincare item, Glow Tonic, took off and became a world favorite for women wanting natural beauty that was affordable and youth-enhancing.

As time has evolved so has Pixi Skintreats and right now there’s a surge in Rose based products.

Start with Pixi’s new ROSE CREAM CLEANSER, a nourishing cream cleanser. Surprisingly this is made with mineral rich mud that cleanses your skin as it helps strengthen and soften it. This contains some wonderful ingredients like Rose Flower Oil to moisturize; Chamomile & Aloe Vera for soothing and calming, and Avocado Oil to condition and soften your skin. I like that it’s so creamy as I find that feels hydrating.

Pixi Rose Cream Cleanser

ROSE TONIC is the next generation of Glow Tonic. It contains nutrients your skin will love while it helps tone, calm skin, balance pH, and minimize redness. This is excellent for sensitive skin as well as all skin types as it’s alcohol free. The key ingredients are Rose Flower Extract which moisturizes and restores skin; Elderflower to gently tone and brighten; and Chamomile & Aloe Vera to sooth, calm and reduce redness. Use this after cleansing or to refresh your skin at any time of day.

Pixi Rose Tonic

The T-ZONE PEEL OFF MASK is my favorite new Skintreat. I’m a fan of masks and the fact that it is meant for my t-zone makes it even better. It’s only used on your actual t-zone so for me it’s my nose and chin (the t-zone also includes forehead but I don’t have a problem there). It’s to be used 1-2 times a week, more if needed. Put on a thick, even layer and let it completely dry. Then have the fun of gently peeling it off. It gives me immediate results making my face look less congested. I usually follow up with Rose Tonic or Glow Tonic. “It contains a unique green superfood blend that includes Avocado, Cucumber, Aloe Vera, Green Tea, and Bamboo Extract to help firm & refine. Great for congested, dull & tired skin.”

Pixi T-Zone Peel-Off Mask

Pixi T-Zone Peel-Off Mask

Pixi Skintreats Fast Flash Facial

Pixi Fast Flash Facial

With this set you get 3 of Pixi’s most popular items. Peel & Polish is something that I use several times a week. It lives in my shower and the minute I step in I apply it to my dry skin. I let it be for at least 2 minutes while I start to wash my body, then I massage it into my skin for the exfoliation and rinse off. Glow Tonic is the star of Pixi’s line and is an exfoliating toner with 5% glycolic acid. Last in the trio is the Rose Flash Balm, a 3 in 1 product that is oil free and moisturizes and brightens. It also is great as a revitalizing mask as well as a primer to prep skin for perfect makeup application.

Skincare based on your genetics: LifeDNA

One of the best gifts I got this past year was a gift to 23andMe, the DNA testing service. I was so surprised by my results – some things jived with the family history, other things did not! My whole family ended up joining in on the fun, and we really had a blast. It was great to see that everyone’s results were consistent, so I am definitely a believer in the service. I think that’s why I was so fascinated by the concept put forth by LifeDNA, a skin care company that designs personalized skin care around your DNA.

LifeDNA doesn’t collect a saliva sample and analyze it like 23andMe does – you actually need to have this information from 23andMe or already. Then you can download it to LifeDNA and they will take the results and analyze them to come up with the skin care products that work best for you. While companies like 23andMe focus on your roots, LifeDNA focuses on your skin needs – are you prone to sun spots? Wrinkles? Do you have a vitamin C deficiency? Are you prone to blemishes? How does your skin react to environmental stress?  Once the analysis is done, the company chooses the skin care products that best suits your particular needs and sends those products to you.

LifeDNA Power Pack – this came in my Essential Beauty Box!!

When you order, you first go through a questionnaire that asks about your height, weight, skin issues, and it lets you input your results from 23andMe or if you have them.

LifeDNA Essential Beauty Box

I got the Essential Beauty Box, which has a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. A 3 month supply is $199. It averages out to $22.11 per product per month, which is an excellent value. You could also get just the moisturizer, a 3 month supply for $99 (a little over $33 a month) or go big time with the Deluxe Beauty Box and get a cleanser, toner, moisturizer AND a DNA personalized serum and mask for $289 (averages to $19.27 per product per month). All of the products are natural and organic.

LifeDNA Toner

I have been testing these products for a month and I like them very much. My skin is very happy. The toner is in a spray bottle which is a bonus. It’s very refreshing and does a great job of prepping my skin for the rest of my products without being too drying.

LIfeDNA Cleanser

LIfeDNA Cleanser

The cleanser is a foam cleanser, which isn’t my favorite type because I like to use my Luna and a foam cleanser doesn’t work as well with that type of machine. However this is a really good cleanser. It dissolves every bit of dirt and makeup and it leaves my skin feeling soft and moist.

LifeDNA Rejuvenating Vitamin C Moisturizer

LifeDNA Rejuvenating Vitamin C Moisturizer

The Vitamin C Moisturizer is my favorite of the three products. This is truly heavenly – pillowy soft, sinks it quickly, leaves skin feeling absolutely fabulous!! All three products are great, but the moisturizer is by far the superstar.  Fantastic.

Overall, I think that the concept is really cool. If you have your DNA results from 23andMe or it’s fun to give it a whirl. I liked the toner and cleanser, but honestly I would only repurchase the moisturizer. LifeDNA is a young company and I believe they are working toward doing their own genetic testing – once they are able to do that, I think their company is going to go big.
